Lenovo Yoga 13: Works fine after I lock it, but won't turn on again after I shut it down.

Q: Lenovo Yoga 13: Works fine after I lock it, but won't turn on again after I shut it down.

For awhile, my laptop (Lenovo Yoga 13) wouldn't shut down from the screen (i.e., pressing the shut down option on the screen) so I had to physically touch the power button to shut it off. Now that I can lock my laptop finally, and leave it overnight, I can log into Windows just fine...I'm using Windows 8.1, just s you know. My only problem now is when I shut it down...Once it's shut down, I'm left praying that it turns on again and boots up like normal....but it takes me, like, 8+ (or more) tries before it's back on again. So now, when I use my laptop, I lock it so that I don't have to worry about it powering on; I"m able to use it normally after unlocking it. But what could the reason my laptop shuts down (when I shut it down myself since I can't shut it off from the screen using my mousepad) and the power button being on and glowing but showing a black screen? That's what happens after I shut the power off and turn it back on again. My laptop is 4 years old, so it's out o' warranty and I can't get it fixed by Lenovo. I hear it's a hardware issue, but is it an issue with the screen itself or is it a motherboard failure specifically? How can I fix it if I take it to a computer shop and how much exactly is it gonna cost me to fix it? Help is appreicaited!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello all,
I am new here, and I will try to be as brief as possible and cut to the chase. The problem I am experiencing is that windows vista home basic will shut down and then you can turn it back on just fine, but you can not go to the start menu and choose restart, because it goes thru the motions like it going to restart, but it only loads the bios, and then begins to load windows, the bar starts moving across where it says Microsoft Corp, but only gets about half way over and then screen goes black, then a blue screen appears for about a split second, no where nearly long enough to even have a clue what it says, then it goes thru the rebooting procedure again, and this time when it reboots, it brings up the screen asking if you want to start in safe mode, last known good configuration, or start normally, etc. but no matter which you choose it still won't take me to the desktop, it just keeps repeatedly restarting. I can however hit the power button and shut it down manually, and when it restarts, the same screen comes up about safe mode, last known good configurationn, or start normally, so I select , start normally, and it boots up just fine and takes me to the desktop. so..... I ran system file checker, and it did find some corrupt files that it said it could not fix. so I am here to see if you have any suggestions what to try next???? any help is appreciated!!!

So for the past couple of days windows has done this. It happened after re installing my wifi card witch has been giving me problems. After reinstalling it and restarting windows fails to boot. It freezes when it says "starting windows" but when I manually shut the computer down and start it manually, it says: "windows failed to start" when I click start normally, everything works fine. Well except for the weird glitches and slowdowns. This still happens when and after installing windows, and in safe mode. It literally can't restart itself in the middle of the windows install! I can't believe it. Someone help me please!

Hi,
Been trying to solve for 3 weeks. As long as I dont restart or shut down pc, everything is pretty much ok (except for 2 minute delay when opening 'My Computer").
If I shut down or restart, after I get to my logon name it takes 25 mintues to get to desktop, where Im able to click on anything,. And even then, the start button and other menus take a few minutes to work. I have no problem getting online and using web but the start button and other clicks in menu take long.
So I discovered if I go into Safe Mode and make at least one change in MSconfig and restart in normal mode, everytihng boots up fine and there are virtualy no problems. Except that whne I make that change in Safe Mode I noticed that all my services are disabled whne I restart in normal mode so I have to reset them. All tihs is very time consuming. After the safe mode thing, restarting and resetting the services, the pc works fine again.
So basically Im ok if Im on 24/7.
I checked hard drive with SMART and its all ok, no damages.
Ran chkdsk. No problems.
Cleaned out temp files.
Defragged.
Ran all kinds of malware checks including spybot Search & Destroy (clean!), Adaware (clean!), BitDefender and a dew others. Bit Defender found one virus and removed.
Winxp home SP2
Dell Pentium II

I solved my own problem after getting the thought to reconfigure settings in Services. Finally.

A:MOBO wont Turn Off...But works fine

Your motherboard may not be 100% ACPI compatible... I think that was the term..

Basically it is like old 95/98 days when windows would shutdown and give you the message on your screen sayin it is now safe to turn your computer off.

I think the same applies here... when and if you installed your o/s did you have any problems with the install. did you get a blue screen saying something like your system is not fully acpi compatible and to restart windows setup and hit the F8 or F10 key... one of them (not the F6 it is used to install 3rd party Device drivers)...
I had the same problem with my old ABIT NF7-S ver1.2 motherboard. no problems other than having to power it off manually after a shutdown, which was very seldom..... ( I suspected there was a motherboard problem because i could not get the darn thing to boot to anything other than the floppy drive or IDE hard drive so i replaced that with the ABIT NF7-S2 and it works like a charm..... You may want to contact the manufacturer of the board to verify its ACPI compatibility

I just recently bought a computer that came with 8GB of memory, and i installed windows vista 64 bit in it and it worked fine, but after i shut it down, and turned it back on, the pc goes on fine but monitor doesn't receive signal, but when i take out two sticks of memory and have just 4GB in, it works just fine. Does anyone know why this would happen and how i can run the 8GB i have?

A:PC works fine with 4GB of Memory but Monitor wont turn on with 8GB?

Either one of the memory sticks is bad, or a memory socket on the mothboard is bad. Try removing all the RAM and reinstall it, carefully making sure all the RAM is installed properly

Go into BIOS by tapping F10 as you power up and run the hard drive diagnostic routine and post back the results. The logical answer is you have a bad hard drive.

I also remove i again replace Hindges to resolve hard hindges issue. But when I re-assemble the laptop, when I turn On, nothing displayed on the screen, but you can see the screen is on.  I keep it running for some time and try to connect via remote desktop, I am able to access my laptop without any problem and everything working fine. What could be the reason? I specifically check all connections 2 times, Note: 1. When I press "F9", I can feel the turn ON/OFF of the screen, but still blank screen.           2. I never face such problem before.            3. Hello, as i stated in subject i own lenovo v330 laptop. Last month i spilled beer over keyboard and everything worked fine for 2 weeks. After two months display stopped working, but when i connect laptop via HDMI to the TV i can see desptop just fine. I would also note that under very bright light i can see what is going on on laptop's display, but the screen is very indistinct. My question is,  is there any simple solution to my problem? Is there any specific place where i should take a look inside laptop to figure out if my laptop is still repairable? If not, would it be possible to change motherboard? Is that someting i could be able to achive with minimal skills when it comes to such repairs ?

Hi daproof,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You may need to replace the LCD panel.

You can check on the hardware manual (here on page 63) if you have the tools and skills to change it. You can get the LCD OEM part number here to check online or on service parts center to purchase.

Here is the article guide that can also help.
How to Look Up and Purchase Accessories, Upgrades, and FRU/CRU Replacement Parts

At this point, it is likely a failed lcd backlight as image still is visible onscreen when illuminated but you can try to reseat cables first and check areas you can clean but setting expectation for LCD panel replacement.

I hope this helps answer your query.

I have just purchase the Lenovo Thinkpad W540. But currently we have issue with the built-in display. The phenomenon as below: 1. When power on - The built in display can show welcome screen, and even enter the BIOS setup screen. If let it boot normally, the built-in screen then off.2. When booted to Windows 8. The built in display still off. If I connect an external display to the VGA connector, the external display work well. Checked the display option see that it is "clone display --> Built in + External Display". I suspect that there is some thing wrong with the display setting that I don't know how to adjust to get the built-in display works properly. Note that I can see the build in display backlighting but there is no picture shown when in screen cloning setup. Can some one help on this ? Regards Triet Tran

My Lenovo B50-30 suddenly shut down when I was watching a 1080p video. At first I thought it overheated so I left it a while but when I came back to it, it won't turn on. I followed the instructions from online, like taking out the battery, pressing the power button 10 times, holding it down for 30s, removing and putting the ram back in and none of the steps worked. When I plug the power adapter back in, there is no charging light. Does anybody know if it could be fixed or what the fault is? My laptop is over 2 years old so out of warranty and I have lots of data that's now lost at the moment.

Hello, my Lenovo Yoga 720-13IKB 81C3 has an issue. When you rotate the laptop past the 180 degree point, it takes just about three seconds to lock the keyboard (it also takes three seconds when you flip it back to laptop orientation). I was wondering If there is a way I could make the keyboard shut off instantly when flipped past 180 degrees, whether that is a setting in some Lenovo software that I have not discovered, or another program entirely besides Lenovo Yoga Mode Control. I have already tried to reinstall YMC, along with resetting the laptop to factory settings, but neither have given me any success. Thank you for any help!

Hello, since a year or so I have a Lenovo X1 yoga running on 64-bit Windows 10. So far without any problems. Yesterday late in the evening I updated my computer via Lenovo Vantage. Today, several hours later, during a meeting I wanted to take a note with OneNote and the pen. Because I like to use the Lenovo in this scenario like a booklet I used the short cut Ctrl+Alt+Left arrow to switch the orientation. This time the screen didn't respond. Also turning the Lenovo in such a way that the Auto Rotation feature will do its job didn't work. So I looked into the display settings, etc. and saw that the Auto Rotation feature were disabled. Two hours later searching the internet and trying all the steps in article https://windowsreport.com/rotation-lock-grayed-windows-10/#9 (except the last one, namely resetting the system) my Lenovo still wasn't running smoothly ... At the end you'll find some some screen shots regarding the update status. Help would be much appreciated. Regards, Gerhard

A:Lenovo X1 Yoga: Auto Rotation lock is grayed out

I have the same problem with my X1 Yoga 3rd Gen. Additionally, https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Tablets/Rotation-Lock-is-greyed-out-in-X1-Tablet-Gen3/m-p/4175... seems to describe the same problem as mine, but on X1 Tablet 3rd Gen. Most of the time when it wakes up from sleep, it's stuck in either tablet or laptop hardware mode:- either the keyboard and the trackpoint/touchpad don't respond,- or the touchpad stays enabled even when the laptop is flipped into tablet form. When this happens, Windows does not switch to/from tablet mode automatically when the laptop is flipped.- If it's stuck in laptop hardware mode, "rotation lock" is grayed out;- if in tablet hardware mode, it is not grayed out.In both cases, it does not rotate automatically, but rotation can be changed manually in display settings.Rebooting or hibernating and turning the laptop on again makes everything work. I have tried the SensorInfo application. When the laptop is stuck in one mode, either of the following happens:- The "SimpleOrientationSensor" shows "Faceup" when the laptop is flipped into tablet form, and "Rotated 270" when the screen is rotated clockwise into portrait orientation. Windows still does not rotate the display - the same behavior as in laptop hardware mode.- All the sensor tabs return no data or zeroes. Windows also does not rotate the display. All the updates available from Windows Update and Lenovo Vantage are installed.

Hello,  After 4 and a half months of not being able to use my laptop, I'm getting very frustrated about my brand new lenovo laptop. I bought my lenovo ideapad 700 in Germany in August (240V). I left in September for a year abroad in Japan and used my laptop on the first few days until the battery went down. After that I tried to turn the laptop back on again but nothing worked: no lights, no reaction, nothing. I was using an adapter to conevert the voltage of Germany to japan's voltage (100V). I tried with different chargers, adapters - I tried everything. I even went to a computer store here in japan but even the guy in the computer store did not know what was the problem. I also tried to unplug the battery (from the motherboard, I didn't actually screw it out) and held the power button for at least 30 seconds and tried to turn it on again - still nothing. I tried everything I could think of and with everyday, my frustration and disappointment in lenovo gets bigger. Please, I just want to use my laptop, help me..  Desperate regards,Robin

Hi Neramusis, welcome to the forums.

Can you please post the full model number of your Thinkpad?

The only idea that I have right now is why do you try to update the drivers of you computer, specially the Lenovo Power Management Driver.

This are my tips about updating drivers on the Thinkpad:

1) Try first Windows Update and update all the drivers and Patches
2) Try Lenovo System Update to get any new/missing drivers.
3) Try to install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows App Store, Lenovo Companion also has a "update driver search"
4) Sometimes all that software does not recognize some updated / missing driver. Check Lenovo's Support Site and search for your specific model drivers.

I know that this is "trial and error", but I think that updating the drivers may help with this issue.

I have an older Ideapad z570, it made a popping sound and it won't power up now either.  I ordered a replacement adapter from lenovo thinking that was the issue as the light on the adapter was not coming on when it was plugged in.

After reading some of these boards, it appears I might have an issue with the mother board.  I would like to see abou getting it replaced, but there are no repair centers close to me, and I cannot find any information on Lenovo's webiste as to who I can contact or where I can send it.
And information to this end would  be greatly appreciated.  Sorry to tack on to this thread, but seemed silly to create another one for the same issue.

Hey Guys, I picked up a Yoga 3 just before xmas and its been running well until just recently. I have noticed that if I shut the machine down and then return to it later it will often not turn back on. Pressing the power button will cause the keyboard to light up but nothing else. After a random amount of time and attempts it will turn on. Whilst trying the light on the power button will remain on. I have contacted online support and they want me to post the laptop to Germany for them to take a look but this wil leave me without my work computer for some time. This problem is also random in that it doesnt always happen. I worry they will try a few times and not be able to reproduce the issue and post it back. Any one any idea of what it might be? I searced the forum and found similar stories but no real advice as to what it might be or a fix. I have updated the BIOS, which didnt seem to help.  Thanks guys

The first issue was a faulty touch screen that required it being sent in for repair. Now 6 months later this power problem shows up. This is extremely disappointing as I felt I did good research before I decided to buy this machine. Any suggestions before I go out and buy something other than a Lenovo product? Thanks!

This afternoon around 3, I shut my laptop to put it to sleep before a trip. It was contained in a laptop sleeve and was in my carry on and with me the whole time. Tonight when I got to the hotel and went to open it, it would not power up. When I plug in the charger, the light is solid white, so it?s charged at least 20%. I have tried pressing the NOVO button and many different online recommended patterns of pressing and holding the power button to no avail. My laptop has literally all of my school work and I am becoming increasingly distressed, please let me know if there?s anything more I can do. I tried to remove the bottom to get to the battery but unfortunately did not pack a miniature screwdriver on this trip.

My Lenovo Yoga power button recently stopped responding, I really don't know why. I didn't bump the button or do anything to damage it, but it seemed to have stopped working. I read that the rest button was an alternative, so I started using that. Today, that also seemed to stop working. Right now, the power light is flashing when the computer is closed and when I open it, the computer fan seems to start and then immediate shut off. Then the power light is on, but the screen continues to stay black.. The reset button isn't doing anything.  I don't know what to do!!

So about 1 month ago, my sister was coming from the kithcen upstairs down with her lenovo laptop in sleep mode, she sent me to bring her charger and so i did. We then plugged thecharger in and tried to turn on the laptop. All that happened was the key board lit up and the cpu fan turns on for about 3 seconds, and the laptop does this in a loop until the battery dies. But it does not do this if you disconect the battery and just use the plug, i have tried so many thing, i have tried disconecting power and battery and holding power for 30 seconds, and then pluging it back in. There was only one issue prior to this and it is that the usb 3.0 port that is mounted on the mother board is broken.Note That the charging light does not turn on. My theory's1. The battery is broken, i did test the battery and on the volt measure it said open loop.(likely)2. The usb 3.0 somehow fried part of the mother board, but not all of it since the cpu fan, power light, and the keyboard still work.(unlikely since a fried mother board nothing works)3. The charger port is broken.(unlikely since the battery does charge, but the laptop does not turn on without a bettery).

My Lenovo yoga 700 suddenly went off. I managed to get it back on and after a while it went off again and won't turn on again. When plugged in, it shows that it's charging but that's it. I suspect it's an issue with the motherboard but I can't be too sure. I need help.

Hello,I've got an annoying problem with my Lenovo Yoga 700 laptop.Today plugged in the charger and started working on my laptop (I'm sure I plugged it in correctly) but I kept gettings messages about low battery level. I checked my charger but I can't really remember if the battery was charging (I suppose not if I was getting those messages). Then my laptop turned off due to low battery power.  When I tried to turn it on (with plugged in charger) I only saw the low battery indicator flash 3 times and nothing. And I thought that my charger was damaged. But It is not! It is because after some reading I decided to open the laptop and unplug the battery. Once I've done that I plugged in the charger and the laptop (without battery) normally turned on! I turned it off and plugged in the battery and it did not turn on now! Even though the charger was working fine (because a minute before I turned the laptop on without any battery plugged in). 2nd try:The laptop works completely fine without the battery. Then I've tried turning on the laptop and while it was running I plugged in the battery. Immediatelly after plugged in the battery the white power light turned off and the orange light was blinking even indicating low battery level, even though my charger was plugged in.Windows was showing that I had 1% battery level and it was not charging. Then my laptop after half a minute went dead as though I didn't have my charger plugged in and my battery went dead. 3r... Read more
