[SOLVED] Need help activating Windows XP

Q: [SOLVED] Need help activating Windows XP

I had to replace my DVD Re-Writer and now get a message telling me that I need to activate Windows XP again. The problem is my computer is second-hand and I don't have the CD Key. I downloaded and ran Magical Jelly Bean to get the CD Key, and it also found the Product ID, but is this enough to activate Windows XP again and keep it working properly?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A couple of weeks ago, I upgraded my Dell laptop from XP Home to Win 7 Home Premium using a legitimate upgrade package purchased from Amazon. Everything went fine, including the installation of almost 100 updates. So I'm surfing the web a few minutes ago and this balloon pops up at the bottom of the screen that says "Activating Windows." It stays a few seconds, changes to "Windows Actived" and then disappears. What's that about? I activated Win 7 with the supplied product key when I installed it. Is Microsoft spying on me?

So I had to get a new mobo / cpu due to my board finally failing on me. I used a windows 7 upgrade (30 bucks since I'm a student promo thing), but now after doing a clean install of 7 on a new HDD because I didn't want to format my old drive, I can't activate windows because I did a clean install versus upgrading it.

Is there a solution to getting it to activate?

Well I acquired a legal copy of Windows XP Professional SP2 through my University. Installed it but when I try to log on it says I need to activate windows before i can use it.

So I go onto the activate windows thing and because it's a fresh install I can't activate it over the internet because my wireless thing isn't installed so I have to do it over the automated phone service.

Ok so here's the problem, it says I need to enter the Installation ID# shown on screen but there isn't one, not a trace.

I can get onto the computer in safe mode, so is there any way of by passing this activation?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Lee.

Nevermind, I solved it. I added a new user account on safe mode then logged on with that. Didn't ask me to validate it so once I logged on I went onto the validate thing and the installation id showed up.

So I got lazy and bought a new set-up, everything installed and ready to go. I added the old SATA drive I had on my Ubuntu rig, as it holds a lot of storage and has files I'd like to access. However, I cannot find anywhere to access it.

On start-up the computer sees it. In disk management it is included, but I cannot open it or do anything aside from seeing its volume and having the option to erase it. That is a poor option for my purposes, obviously.

So how do I get into the thing? Do I need to erase some of the partitions on it from my old Linux install? I'd rather keep it as a bootable option for Ubuntu, but it's not vital. As long as I can get to my files on it and use it as a storage drive, I'm good.

A:Solved: Hard Drive Not Activating in Windows 7

Ubuntu is probably using a different filesystem than Windows and that's why windows can't 'see' the files. If you can still boot into Ubuntu try copying the files to the windows disk from there.

EDIT : You may need to alter the boot device order in the Bios to boot from the Ubuntu hard drive.

I have an older PC with an Asus mobo M2N32-SLI Deluxe WiFi-AP<Green. I have never used its wireless feature but I do want to activate it now however I no longer have the "omni-directional antenna" which came with the package when I first bought the mobo. Does anyone know where I can find this type antenna? I was trying to contact Asus Support but I had trouble connecting. Next question, if the OEM antenna is no longer available, is there a replacement antenna or a wireless card in the market which I can slip in one of the PCI slots?

Any ideas as to how this is done within vba ?

A:Solved: Activating Hyperlinks via VBA

Hi fizzle.

Try this. You can change the line for x = 2 to 4, to match the rows you have down column A. Here, the code will open the links in cells A2 to A4

For x = 2 To 4
Range("A" & x).Hyperlinks(1).Follow NewWindow:=False

I recently changed from a Socket 775 Intel Q6600 quad core processor to an AMD Phenom II 940 processor. I am using a Gigabyte GAS-MA790X-UD4P motherboard. In the past, when I booted, I ran a program called CoreTemp, which popped up in the right side tray, indicating the temps of each core. Also, when running CPUZ, it indicated that I was running with 4 cores. Now, when I boot to Windows Vista, I have only one temp on the tray. Also, when running CPUZ with the Intel Q6600, I was able to select from 0 to number 3 on the cores. Now when I run CPUZ, it shows 4 cores and 4 threads at the bottom. However, the selection box at the bottom is whited out, not permitting me to select from among the four cores. I might not have a problem, but things look so different that I wonder whether I am really using all 4 cores on the CPU. I ran msconfig, the boot menu, and selected 4 cores for Windows Vista. I did not see anything in the bios that enables multi-core processors, although most motherboards I have owned lately, required setting up a multi-core processor in the bios. Anyone have any suggestions on what I may be doing wrong? Thanks. Have gotten used to Intel systems over the past several years. Thanks again.

At the end of the process, I restarted the machine and it just hung for about 2 hours. I restarted manually and it asks for my Bitlocker password.

When I put in the password and proceed, I get the following message:-

The BitLocker Encryption key cannot be obtained. Verify that the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) is enabled and ownership has been taken. If this computer does not have a TPM, verify that the USB drive is inserted and available.

As the message states, you need a TPM connected to the Motherboard.

I have a Dell Latitude D620 running with Windows XP home edition. And I'm currently using a different laptop.

I would like to active system restore, however at the moment is is turned off. I know how to turn it back on but my computer is only working in safe (with networking) mode as it is been infected with the Security Suite spyware (which i have spent hours trying to remove but all attempts have failed).

Is there any way to activate it in safe mode?

A:Solved: Activating System Restore

It should work in Safe Mode. But you need to remove any infections first. The infection may be causing a problem with System Restore, and in any case, restoring will not remove any infections and may proceed with errors if they are present.

If SR has been turned off, then all restore points have been deleted. You need to get the machine running perfectly so you can create a valid and useful new restore point.

I have a Sony Vaio SVE15113ENB laptop. It had windows 7 before but last month I purchased Windows 8.1 upgrade key. But instead of upgrading I downloaded the iso and then did a clean install. I don?t know if the problem is only with sony vaio?s that if you dont follow the proper procedure not all driver install properly. The same has happened with me. The sound driver is installed but does very feeble sound. As the vaio has this xLoud volume booster, it hasnt installed properly. So my question is whether I could use the windows 8.1 key I purchased to install windows 8.

Hope to hear from the experts here.

Thank you

A:Activating Windows 8

If you want to downgrade to Windows 8.0. then no, the 8.1 key will not work.

Unless there is compelling evidence that the 8.0 drivers work better, perhaps it would be better try re-installing various driver versions, if not the the OS itself.

When I re-configured my laptop recently, a few days after, I started getting a little pop-up that said I had a certain number of days to activate windows... so I clicked on it numerous times and it said "you have already activated windows, clik ok to exit" ... so I did. The same pop-ups kept happening, and I kept trying, but always the same prompt. So I guess time has expired to activate windows (even though it always said that I already did) and now I cant log in! When I turn on my computer it tries to log on but then It says I must activate my windows before logging on, but then it says I am already activated. Then I try to log on and it repeats the same message. Sorry for the novel guys, but Im desperate to fix this problem! I have windows xp. Any advice will help!

So my friend was using my computer (which did not have a 'genuine' windows, this is another problem) and he downloaded and installed some kind of software on my computer which was supposed to activate my windows. But a couple days later, when i turn on my computer it boots up normally up to the part where it is supposed to connect to the wifi. There is a spinning wheel above the wifi symbol, the security essentials is turned off and nothing i click on does anything. I tried to restored to a previous restore and nothing doing. I tried to removed the hackware in safemode, but the removed button becomes faded and nothing happens. I tried the repair system and again nothing. This sounds like the end of my hard drive. What do I do?

A:Activating windows

I do not know what your friend did but you do not need to download software to activate Windows. Those who do are typically attempting to use some type of crack or keygen program to circumvent Windows activation which is not only illegal but a security risk. I recommend that software be removed and you contact Microsoft if you are receiving messages about not having genuine windows.Microsoft maintains multiple Product Activation Centers worldwide to provide assistant and telephone support for activation issues. I got my Samsung Series 9 repaired and, as a result of some component changes, Windows 8 is no longer activated. Can I use a copy of Windows 8 Pro (which is intended to allow Windows 7, Vista and XP users to upgrade to Windows 8) to activate Windows 8? In other words, will the product key of an upgrade package allow me activate Windows 8, despite it not being an upgrade (my computer came with Windows 8 pre-installed).

A:Activating Windows 8

In this case your first point of contact should be Samsung Support, if you contact them and explain the situation they should organise activation of the pre-installed OS. Microsoft may be an option though pre-installed OS is officially the responsibility of the OEM.

It may be possible to "upgrade" using a retail copy of pro, but then of course you would lose the use of the pre-installed copy that you have already paid for

Here's my situation:

Today I reinstalled windows because it was giving me problems, reinstalled some programs, recovered backed up documents etc. However, I still need to activate windows, but I can't. The product ID shown in my "System" panel is "invalid for activation," and when I try to change it, I cant do that either. I cant change it because (and I forgot to mention, I made this computer so its an OEM version of Vista) the product ID on the sticker that is supposed to go on your case is no longer valid because when I got a new motherboard, I had to call to activate windows. So I guess the question is, who do I call to get a new product ID, and what information do I need to tell them?

I have problem , I have 2 copies of Windows XP and recently have tried to update my Windows ME computer to XP I basically was having trouble with ME and wanted to have all three PCs on the same network using the same OS.

After wasting so many hours trying to get into Dos in Windows ME, I finally figured out how to format it and now I have installed Windows Xp. Everything went pretty smooth until I get to the Activation Screen.

I know have 30 days but I want to have this thing working now once and for all. I have tried to activate it over the phone but the automated system rejects the product key. I tried activating over the net and they tell me the same thing.

The product Key came with the disc. I am in the process of calling Microsoft but I was wondering if anyone knew what could be the problem here?

A:Activating Windows Xp

Do I understand that you have 2 copies of XP, but they are installed on 3 PC's?

Can't do that, every PC must have it's own licenced copy. It cannot be installed on more than one PC (or it fails activation).

However that may not be what you actually mean, it's hard to interpret exactly.

But if its a new, unused copy of XP that is failing activation then a phone call is needed.

Hi People

I recently installed a new motherboard and I had to perform a repair install of Windows XP. Now I have to re-activate Windows. I am reminded of this every time I Reboot. However when I click Activate Windows my pc stops at the desktop wallpaper before the icons and taskbar show up. And it stays there and stays there forever until I reboot again.

If I click NO to 'do I want to activate Windows' and click the Windows Star at the bottom right of my taskbar I am directed to a webpage that tells me my copy of windows is not genuine.

I got my copy of Windows directly from Microsoft. I know for a fact it is genuine. So how can I fix this?

When I perform the operation below I don't have an 'activate windows' button on my copy of windows xp. Its not in accessories or anywhere.

Click Start.
Point to All Programs.
Click Activate Windows.

Two problems really.

1. Maybe I've never noticed it before but all of a sudden I keep seeing the popup for windows 8 activating again. Just seems strange that it would be trying to activate again even though it shows activated on 6/23/2013.

2. This problem is a little different. Different computer but activation problems again. My laptop for some reason last week kept asking me to reactivate over and over again. It would say successful and then I would go look and it was needing activation when I checked. It did this 4 or 5 times and it currently says activated. This one says activated 2/19/2013

These are both Windows 8 Enterprise from my MSDN.

Any ideas?

I just solved a huge issue with windows 7 installation Freezing before it finished...

Now I am having a issue Activating it Windows 7 Home Premium on this HP G61

Due to the fact that the tag on the bottom of the laptop is worn and unreadable in parts, before I re-installed windows, I used a Product Key Grabber to grab what I thought was my windows key...
(This turned out to be a key registered to an ASUS laptop)

So now I have a fresh installation that needs activation and a half-unreadable product key.

I've read that you can call Microsoft support to activate over the phone, so I called them...
they told me I would have to call HP to get it, since Windows was preloaded on the machine when it was purchased...
So I called HP, after like 15 of trying to understand the lady who was asking random questions, she tells me that I have to purchase an extended warranty for them to read the product key to me, WHICH IS RIDICULOUS.

So my question is, what the hell do I do with this now?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Not too sure, but it's either buy an extended warranty or buy Windows 7 and use that product key.

XP checks for "points" on bootup and it looks at the hardware and CPU, and everything until it adds up 7 points. Then it boots. Anything less is a re-activate. You said you updated firmware for your ROMS. That may in effect make XP think the drives had changed. Normally, one drive at a time, nothing happens, but when you make 2 or more hardware changes, the XP wants to know why. Activation over the phone is easy. Just tell the person what you have done and they will give you an ungodly long number to enter. Like 42 digits. Nothing to it. Took me less than 3 minutes to do.

I am having a tad bit of a problem with computer, after a bit of hardware upgrades, I noticed that my Windows is no longer activated. And because I got the free upgrade from windows 7 to 10 with the whole update thingy, everything was dandy until now. Well, since the free upgrade from Windows 7/8 to Windows 10 has expired, looks like you will have to purchase a license for Windows for it.

Just curious, though, did you install Windows 10 Pro?

I have a legit copy of windows 7 am I have just attempting to re-install on a computer of mine. I do NOT have it installed anywhere else, I am NOT trying to install the same copy of windows in tandem with another computer. I have also re-installed in the past with zero issues across different hardware setups.

So, I type in my product key and it doesn't appear to work. It never tells me the key is invalid, it just won't accept it current. It prompts me with the typical options to contact MS to buy a new one, etc. I am kind of at a loss now. I have uninstalled from one computer and installed problem free to another in the past without an issue. I don't know why now this is a problem now.

I am not very sure how the activation of windows works

I didnít have the money to buy windows so I borrowed a dell oem windows xp pro sp1 cd from myfreind I installed it and decided to activate it later. Itís been a month and I havenít activated it. And I also havenít Purchased windows yet I know I have to get windows with an oem activation number but does that activation number have to belong to a windows disc with sp1 or can I buy windows with sp2 and use the activation code on my comp with out reinstalling windows.

The reason I ask is I can get windows with sp2 a lot cheaper.

Had a big pc problem which had me pretty much build a new pc. Kept my hd though. Xp says that I need to re-activate it after hardware changes. Thing is that I got my version of xp from my high school. They had some sort of deal. In college now and I don't have my code. Will I have to buy windows xp?

Yes you will need to purchase a license. Normally, licenses are not transferable to a new motherboard - unless the new motherboard is virtually identical (same chipset, same IDE controllers, same BIOS version, etc.) to the one on which the WinXP installation was originally performed.

Hi erveryone!

i got a problem with Windows XP Prof. SP2 on a "HP 6735s NA853ES".
Normal startup end in a "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA"-BSOD. "Last Known Good Configuration"-feature didn't help. But when i select any other boot-option (safe mode, vga mode, bootlogging) the os starts up perfectly.
updated every driver, tested ram and hard disk with no result.

Anyone any ideas?

OK I've followed all the steps in the 5-step process. Here's the problem, when I'm typing or even just scrolling in the current window of IE it will de-highlight and become inactive. Sort of like what happens when you get a pop-up but I'm not seeing the pop-ups. Here are my logs. First Active Scan:

Basically I have having this problem on both computers I want to share. When i type in the ip of the pc I want to connect to, I get the following error:

Then when i press Diagnose I am prompted with the following error message:

So I thought it had something to do with file and printer sharing not being enabled, but when i try to enable it, i get 'RPC Server Unavailable" as below:

After searching the net for ages (it seemed like), I have not been able to find a solid solution, I have been told to make sure RPC server is running, which it is, Net TCP/IP helper is running, and when i ping the IP address of the computer, it does comeback with a result, so i know the computer can see it. I am thinking it has something to do with the firewall (which i should mention, i have tried with e firewall enabled, and disabled).

Can anyone shed some light on what could be wrong?
