Solved: iPhone drops WiFi signal

Q: Solved: iPhone drops WiFi signal

I am a new iPhone user. I can get my iPhone to pick up the Wi Fi signal from my PC(Windows XP SP2) and Thomson (o2) router with netgear Wi Fi adaptor, but it drops the Wi Fi signal and goes on to the slower GPS signal almost as soon as I start using it on the Wi Fi connection. I see what appears to be a similar problem was posted in May '09 but the I could not understand the reply and do not think it aswers my problem.

I'd appreciate any advice that can be offered.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I saw a similar post that expired, so am creating a new post.

I have had an HP 6197CA for 6 months. This week it started dropping the wireless network, or connecting randomly at 1mbps when all other laptops, Blackberries, AppleTVs, etc. are getting about 20mbps when tested.

Specs: Windows 7 64 bit
Processor: Intel i7-2360QM 2.0 Ghz with Turbo boost technology
Graphics: Radeon HD 6770m 1GB
Storage: 2 x 500 GB 7200rpm
Network Interface: Integrated 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN
Wireless: Wireless LAN 802.11 b/g/n. Bluetooth wireless networking with WiDi

When I plug right into my router I'm getting 20 mbps.

I've tried a number of channels and changed the router to 20MHz. Any suggestions?

Hello everyone, this problem has got to the point to where I am not sure what to do next. I am a pc technician for a living so I never usually have problems I cannot fix on my own,

I have a Dell Studio 1745 Laptop and its only a few years old, I recently upgraded my router to be wireless a year or so ago and have had a few d/c issues here and there but mostly has not been a problem.

Recently I have had tons of d/c issues while playing warcraft or browsing the internet in general, anything really.
So I made the mistake of recently updating my WNR1000V3 router's firmware from my laptop's wireless connection. After I did this I saw all sorts of warnings (none built into the firmware itself, sigh) that this was a big no no.

Since then my d/c issues have been horrible but what it does now is my connection will be completely normal then all of a sudden my wireless access point will switch to 'No Internet Access' and it will drop my internet.

The only way I can get it back is to go into the other room and reset the router by either unplugging it, or pressing the reset button on the back, once it reboots and everything, my laptop sees the connection again, and it has Internet Access fine.
Soo I went and made the problem much worse, the lame part of the situation is before I had this firmware issue I was getting this problem anyways.

I decided if I could flash a older version of firmware to the router using my desktop that is wired to the router I could th... Read more

So, one day I was examining my network and I noticed that there was an iPhone connected to my router. First, I live in an area with "older" folks who cant afford/use an iPhone. The only person I know of that has one is my cousin who lives a few doors down. I cant be sure that it isnt him, but im 95% sure. I do not know how any iPhone would crack my WEP key and enter my system. And why would it choose my internet and not the one's that are unblocked in the area? Could it be because I am closest? I'll never know unless someone informs me on the new super power that Apple is implanting into their cell phone. I am getting really mad because I cant stand lag on my network and I'll be even more angry if the iPhone is just a codename some hacker uses so people feel less threatened.

I lose wireless internet connection consistently. I can get it back up by switching airplane mode on and off or disconnecting and reconnecting the connection, but then it’ll drop again in either a few minutes or sometimes a few hours – no consistency. I’m using Windows 8.1 on a Lenovo G500s (see below). Router is Asus RT-AC68P Dual Band. Doesn’t matter if I’m next to the router or on other side of the house.

Just so you know: Other computers in house and phone and tablets work perfectly with the Asus. Lenovo works perfectly on Ethernet, and also works fine with the xfinitywifi public, but of course that’s not secure. The Comcast combination xfinity modem and wireless didn’t work well for anyone, so put it in bridge mode and bought the Asus router.

I have tried to no avail: choosing channels on both 2.4 and 5 rather than auto setting; rebooting everything – trying to avoid resetting router since everything else in the house works perfectly with it; double checked the proxy settings as recommended.

Seems to me it has to be some peculiar setting on the Lenovo computer related to the Asus router (since xfinitywifi works just fine).

Thanks for any help.

Wifi suddenly stopped working, works with Ethernet cable, works with iPad and iPhone, but not with Sony Vaio laptop wifi.

Have spent hours on the phone with Internet Service Provider, who went through all settings and checked everything (checked CMD prompts and changed SSID, created new channels, etc).

I'm using Windows 7 and have McAfee. What could have caused this to suddenly stop working? How do I get it to work again? I have checked my wifi is still on, it still connects to the wireless modem router (D-Link), and at start up has a yellow triangle with exclamation mark inside, then that disappears and says internet is connected (on internet bars icon) but no browsing is possible at all with any of my browsers (chrome, Firefox, explorer).

Have disabled McAfee firewall, have restarted in safe mode, but nothing is helping.

Have tried on different wifi connections, with same problem. I restored to the last date I could use wifi and it didn't change anything.... Help please!

Okay, so my desktop is connected to the network by wifi to the wireless N (plus B and G) router. It connects to the internet fine and dandy. My iPhone can connect to the router, but drops the wifi signal most of the time. It doesn't seem to want to hold the connection because of either distance or interference from the wall or whatever.

What I want is to connect the iPhone's wifi to the computer for a stronger connection. But I don't want to move the router because it's centrally located and my office is kinda further away from it.

1 computer
1 802.11n wireless USB adapter connected to computer
1 802.11g wireless PCI adapter connected to computer
1 802.11n router connected to internet
1 iPhone with 802.11b/g connectivity
Is it possible to do this? I know what people have done it with one wired connection and a wireless connection from the computer. But can it be done with TWO wireless adapters connected to the computer?

Thanks in advance for any replies....

PS...I know it'd be easier to just use the computer to browse the internet since I'd be in the office anyway...but I work as a 3D modeler and alot of times I'm testing renders for scenes and such and can't stop the render without losing the progress. If I browse while it's rendering, it's possible I can crash the computer because of the heavy resources the 3D engine is already using.

A:Possible to connect iPhone's wifi to computer that is connected by wifi to the net?

Doesn't hurt (except maybe your time) to try. Get an ad-hoc wireless network working between computer and iPhone (using dynamic addressing). Then in Network Connections bridge the two wireless connections.

If it doesn't work, show the following for the computer before you bridge and when you have the bridge.

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

I am having a frustrating time with my network. I work for an animall hospital and we have a wired/wireless network with 9 computers (mixed vista ultimate and xp pro with server 2003 sp2 on the server). I am using a Linksys WRT320n router.

My main problem is with my 2 wireless computers, a desktop with a US Robotics 802.11g turbo and one of my laptops, a Dell Inspiron 6400. They are no more then 30 feet from the router and always have a strong signal but will drop their connection and have to be logged of and logged back on. It is very frustrating because there is no rhyme or reason for it. Sometimes it will stay connected all day without dropping and other days it will drop 6-8 times.

I am not sure if this is related or not, but there are several wireless networks that can be seen by these computers including a Comcast WIFI and an Optonline WIFI.

Also, the network will slow down every so often (wired as well as wireless) and I am no sure what the is about. Our applications that we run are not very intence (no graphics or large packets being sent.) Some one said they thought there might be a some sort of a Windows Sharing App. running on the server that was bogging it down but I am not sure.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Hello Everyone.

I've just moved to Paris, France and I'm having trouble connecting. Meaning in the house I'm living in. I'm currently living in a home that has internet and I was given the security code by the owner. However where I am the signal is a nightmare. I also have another internet connection which is open when you have the code (which I do) here in Paris ----however in both cases the signal is ridiculously weak and I keep losing the connection.

Both are security enabled sites but within the room I'm in the connection seems poor although I have a huge French Window.

I was told to get a signal booster, but I'd like some recommendations and if I don't have to do any configuration to the owner's internet connection it's fine--I don't want to bother them about it since even their Numericable loses connection---we're a little outside of Paris---the owners say that signal is a problem for them as well from time to time. I just want to pick up the stronger signal so I'm not losing the connection from time to time----hence the reason I'd rather dump the numericable and stick with the freewifi signal but I've been losing it from time to time.

I have a Sony Vaio and I'm using the Intel (R) PROSet/Wireless (rather than my windows connection), the band is 802.11g, 802.11n for one network called FreeWiFi and 802.11g for Numericable one which is the apartment I'm living in.

I have come up with a problem of signal strength in one area of the house. I was hoping I could use my old Linksys E2500 router as a Bridge and boost the signal into the other area of my home. Can I do this wireless ? Can I link the Linksys router to the Xfinity router wireless and then have the Linksys router transmit the signal on from it's location to the other area of the house ?

Yes, if the Linksys has Range Extender (Repeater) mode.

Yes, if there is third party firmware (e.g., DD-WRT or Tomato) for the Linksys.

I'm a WiFi novice trying to administer a WiFi network in a wooded campground. Needless to say, the trees and aluminum siding on the RV's create challenges getting usable signals to our campers.

The management console shows the signal strength each repeater/access point receives from every other repeater/access point. Typically a pair of units show similar signal strength between each other (with minor variation probably caused by slight differences in transmitter power and receiver sensitivity). However, sometimes certain linked units show widely different signal strength between each other. It is sometime different by a factor of 2 or 3, with the max strength unusually high and the min strength unusually low. The low signal obviously disrupts the performance of the system.

Would someone please tell me likely causes for these differences.

Hello, I just noticed that my wifi signal bars stay at full bars and does not change even if the signal is truly low. I realized this only recently when I transferred to our bedroom which supposedly had the worst signal in the house, but the signal bar still stays at full. Whenever I click on it, the real signal will appear and does not currently match the one shown in the system tray icons.

My current wireless network adapter is Intel Dual Band Wireless AC-7265
Updated to Windows 10 Anniversary Update on August 17, 2016

Solutions I've tried but failed to fix it:
1. Uninstalling the wireless network adapter, restarting PC and scanning for hardware changes, although it did show the true signal for a second then went to full bars
2. Updating the wireless network adapter to no success in fixing it. Also tried rolling back the driver to the original one.
3. Turning Network system tray icons on and off in the windows 10 settings

And BEFORE doing that, I was also trying to fix various problems that also came with my laptop.

1. Updated Intel HD Graphics 530 and Nvidia drivers which seemingly fixed my BSOD problems that never again happened since then.
2. Updated my BIOS to the latest which fixed black screen/restarting problems when laptop wakes up from sleep.

NOTE: all the drivers ive installed came from the manufacturer's/model's support website for my specific laptop

You do not need to scribble out the names on that screenshot, since it will do nothing for any of us. That signal graphic is just like on a cellphone. It does not mean anything. There are a lot of factors why you can have great radio signal, but have interference causing a blackout or outage. If you want to see a snapshot of all signals your wifi adapter is seeing, open up a Command Window as administrator and type it 'netsh wlan show all'.

For the last three days, my laptop (Acer Aspire V5-573G, Windows 8.1 64 bit) can't connect to our house's wifi, which I have been able to connect to for years. I am in a basement flat, while the router is one floor above me. Other laptops, tablets and phones in the same basement flat have no issues connecting to the wifi. The wifi shows up in my available networks, full signal and all, but I can't connect to it.

What I have tried:
- Restart PC
- Restart router and modem (both quick reset and factory reset)
- Run the built in diagnostics tool (yields different results: IP settings not configured properly, something wrong with my network card etc., so I tried the fixes below to overcome these findings)
- Deactivate and reactivate network card
- Uninstall and reinstall network card
- "Fix" my wifi application/program/something (Atheros Qualcomm...) through "uninstall programs"
- ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew
- flushdns
- System restore to time when internet worked (unsuccessful because iirc something allegedly was wrong with my C drive, ran chkdsk /r, re-ran restore, still no success)
- Set a static IP, gateway, DNS etc.
- Virus and malware scan with MalwareBytes (iirc it found 4 files/folders, which it quaranteened)

Weird part is that when I'm close to the router, the connection seems to work, albeit very slowly. The router is connected to the internet with no issues, and if I connect my laptop to the router with an ether... Read more

A:broadband signal drops out

Hi Calmat,
Welcome to the forum.
I would first check what security you have regarding your broadband connection.
If weak security it can be tapped into, and for obvious reasons we don't want that to happen.

Also on the rise lately is persons using your broadband width to run theirs, so they can surf the net.

The details should be on your computer along with your providers information.

If you are unsure contact your provider and indicate your problem.

Hope this may help.

I'm sure other members will give advice to you.

If unsure get back to us anytime.

We bought two new computers at the same time from a local Microcenter. Both are the Dell XPS 8700. One has more memory, space, etc. Both computers have Windows 7. They are side-by-side at the same desk with a shared monitor, mouse, and keyboard.

We've only had them a few months, but right from the start, the beefier computer has had problems with the wireless signal.

They both use the same network. We have a router and a booster.

When I look at the Wireless Network Connection Status for Computer A (the one with the lesser memory), it always shows a speed of 150 mbps. Always.

But Computer B sometimes shows 11.0, 35.0, 108.0, or 150. Sometimes it shows 11 when I first boot it up, then it eventually gets up higher. Sometimes it starts at 150 and then goes to 35 as time goes on. Usually when I reboot, it will go back to 150, but not always.

These computers obviously have different programs loaded.

I know zero about wireless connections. But I don't want to troubleshoot the router itself because Computer A is working fine. It must be something with the setup or what is running on Computer B?

Does this problem indicate that I have some kind of virus chewing up my bandwidth on Computer B? I've tried to be careful about what I installed, but...

I'll also add that we're using different anti virus programs. Computer A has AVG. Computer B has Avast. Both are the free versions.

Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Susie... Read more

A:SIgnal Speed Drops Way Down

I assume that you are talking about the nominal connection speed and not any actual measured performance. Is this correct?

Just from your description I'd guess that one possibility is that the problematic PC does not have the correct driver installed. If the PCs have the same wireless adapter compare/contrast the driver for each.

Another guess is that something is partially or intermittently blocking or interfering with the signal to the problematic PC; for example, maybe the other PC is in the path between router (or "booster") and the problem antenna.

Hi, I have a problem with my Dlink 1310 Wireless Router. For a while now it has been happening but it has finally gotten to the point where I am tired of it happening.

Few things I have noticed or have done.

1) Watched modem when this happens and never shows sign of droppage in internet
2) Updated Firmware for router, and while it helped increase data transfer rates, the problem still persists
3) Usually when this happens I will click the network icon on my laptop/desktop and will see that my router has disappeared from the list of available networks entirely, then returns a few moments later.
4) Distance to router does not affect frequency of this problem

Any ideas what is going on?

Hello everyone, and as my title states I would like to try to change my wifi to a 5Ghz signal. I would like to try this because of all the interference from everyone in my small situated neighborhood where my levels of interference on the top floor of my complex get litterally 20+ signals from every house in the neighborhood. By using my handy dandy inSSIDer program I have determined that every single one of these wifi signals are 2.4 Ghz, and therefore I believe that by changing my wifi to a 5Ghz channel I can avoid some of this unwanted interference. If you believe differently please do tell why. Any who, my service provider is Century Link and I know how to access my router and mess with its settings if necessary, however I was wondering if maybe I needed to do something else? Any advice/insight is greatly valued.

A:Solved: Trying to change my Century Link wifi to broadcast a 5Ghz signal

What kind of modem are you using? Actiontec C1000A?

What devices are you planning on connecting to it? Note not every modem and devices support the 5GHz band. Your best solution would be to change channels to 1, 6 or 11 for less interference experience. There's quite a few AP here but it doesn't affect my connection at all. Hardly experience any interference.

I have a home network set up currently running a custom built desktop with RangeMax wireless-N usb adapter and a fairly new Acer Aspire 5517 laptop with built in Broadcom 802.11g wireless adapter. Both are in same room about 20 feet from router. Desktop stays connected without any issues. Laptop goes through periods when it keeps dropping wireless signal. Both machines are running Win 7. Acer hasn't been a whole lot of help on this issue they made a few suggestions which seemed to help temorarily but problem has returned with a vengance, So I turn to my friends here at techspot. I have tried updating and rolling back drivers on laptop, switched id channels in speedstream router, rebooted router. I shouldn't have to keep doing this. What else should I be looking at? Like I said wireless desktop in same room has no problems. I need to test this machine somewhere else to see if its my router but I haven't yet.

I have had the same problem with a Acer Aspire 5920g, we narrowed it down to being a incompatible router. How long exactly can you stay connected for? Does it drop off after 5 minutes and then do you have to reconnect it or it will eventually reconnect itself?
The 5920g we had i personally believe went wrong because of the wireless n capable adapter it had which when we bought it was one of the first out!
One thing that i would recommend to try though, if you have (or can get hold of) a usb network adapter see if you have the same problem connecting your laptop through that. Then we may be able to narrow down if its hardware or software.

hi guys,

i noticed that sometimes wifi signal on my home wireless drops to 4/5 and happens often that it doesn't show back 5/5 even if i move the PC and is only 20 cms from the router (just as now).. if i just disconnect and reconnect after a few seconds it will show 5/5 or if i restart the computer as well.

when i check the wireless stations available, mine shows 5/5 though and connected...so what's the deal?

Hi Gabrio,

Is your Wi-Fi adapter's driver up to date? Might want to see if there's a most recent driver.

Also, please download, install and run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector from your computer. Double click the Xirrus Icon on your Desktop, Tap the Printscreen key on your keyboard, open up Paint then choose Edit from the Menu and select Paste, then SAVE it. Upload and attached the file here.

Go to hardware, find your networkcard rightclick, properties, and go to energy tab, set "can save power" option off.

Good luck

I had a Netgear WPN824v3 router that worked great until it started dropping it's signal from time to time. I mean you'l be online wireless then all of the sudden nothing. Computer doesn't even see the router. Hardwire items are fine, it's only the wifi. Started just once in a while then increased in frequency. Simply powering down the router seems to reset it fine. Not hard just a pain to do seemingly all the time. I figured that it was going bad so I bought a new router. I like this one so I got another Netgear WPN824. This was about a year ago and did seem to "fix" the problem. Until......recently the new one is doing the exact same thing. What are the chances that I got another bad router. I guess it could happen but how likely is it, not very I'm thinking. I did get a good year out of each router, so I suppose it could just be the "life span" of this model. But I have seen routers run strong for several years so I'm not thinking this is likely either. Not sure which way to look. If it is that this model has a short life, so be it. I just won't get this model again. Simple enough right. But it just seems strange that two have the exact same issue, at about the same life span time. Could it be that I have something setup incorrectly in the router setting that cause overload of circuits??????? If any one has had this issue with this model router, I would appreciate any input.

Hi all, First of all, let me say you are all geniuses and thank you for your help on other issues. You rock! okay, I have a Netgear Rangemax wrn834m router hooked up to a desktop with two laptops that connect wirelessly. The router has worked fine for over a year. The last week, it has been dropping the signal about every half hour. A half hour later, it reconnects, all on its own. Another half hour, and it's gone. I have updated the firmware, and can't figure out what else to do. I called Netgear, but my router seems to be refurbished and they won't fix it, although the tech said it was definitely the router and was a "configuration" issue that they could fix . . . if I would pay $69 for a 6 month contract for support. Anyone want to tell me how to fix it for, oh, say $10 or $20? Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Hope somebody out there can help. I have recently bought a new samsung TV after my old one gave out. My new tele does not have a RGB port to connect a VGA cable to so I can use my PC on it like my old one did, it only has HDMI in and my PC has only VGA out. I bought a VGA to HDMI converter box from maplin and when I start up my PC the picture appears on my TV as it goes through its boot up. It displays windows is preparing but then, at the point windows would normally open, the signal to my TV dies and it just displays the no signal message on the screen. If I start thr PC in safe mode, windows boots up fine and the signal does not drop out. I am using windows 7. Does anybody know how I fix this?

Hello and welcome Lovett mate some system specs please System Info - See Your System Specs
it is hard to work on the problem unless we know what we are dealing with. Sounds to me like a graphics driver or hardware problem.
But for starters can you run this and send back what the temps are in normal mode and perhaps running a scan for malware.

I have an A530 that I recently updated to windows 10 from 8.1.  At first it was working fine but then it started to lose wifi signal frequently.  Every time i reboot, it works for a few mins but then loses signal again.  I ended up connecting the computer with an ethernet cable and downloaded the latest realtek ethernet lan driver (vers. 10.001.0505.2015)but i'm still having the same issues.  I didn't see any current driver updates that would effect the WiFi but i gave this driver update a shot anyway.  I know the router is ok because other devices i have on the network do not have any issues.  Any help would be appreciated.

I am having an odd problem on one of my new laptops. I have a new gateway tablet laptop and am using wireless networking in my home, a linksys wrt54g, the wireless router is pretty close to me and I always show full signal. However, my speed has been dropping from 54Mbps to 24, and sometimes lower, even though I am at full signal.

This does not occur on my other gateway laptop.

If I repair the connection it reconnects me at 54Mbps every time.

Anyone have any troubleshooting tips?

Using XPS 15 (UHD, i7) 9550 with a Monoprice USB-C to Displayport cable hooked up to a Dell U2713HM monitor.  Performance is great, except every now and again, the signal drops for a few seconds, turning the screen black. After a few seconds, it returns.  Not sure if this is an issue anyone else has seen.  Graphics drivers and BIOS are updated to the latest versions.

I have the same problem with the XPS13 9350 using a usb-c to hdmi cable. External monitor turns on and off randomly which becomes more pronounced when I close the lid (sleep on close lid is OFF). Funnily enough I tried a longer HDMI cable with Ethernet and I was getting no image at all with lid closed. I also have bios and drivers updated.

My dad recently started having wireless internet trouble with his Dell Inspiron I6400. He will be connected to the wireless internet in our home and the computer will drop the wireless signal automatically. This happens approx every 2 minutes, but it will not do it on consecutive days or even weeks. This all started about 1.5 months ago, I have checked if his computer did updates around that time, thinking it is a glitch with a windows update, and there were none done during that time. The integrated wireless card is a Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-Card. And we get our internet through Hughes Satellite which is routed through their modem and then plugged into our wireless router, which is a Linksys WRT54G. The wireless signal is controlled on the computer by the Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility, which I do not like, but when I uninstalled or disabled it, the wireless on the computer stopped working all together. I have changed the channels on the router, thinking it may be an interference issue, but that did no good. Also there are 3 other laptops in the house that use this same wireless signal, and this one is the only one that has problems with it.

If anybody has any suggestions or ideas to what it may be, please respond. I am an IT major, so please don't hold back on IT jargon.

Hello! Recently I've been having wi-fi problems on my laptop. It is a Toshiba Satellite P55-A5312 model, so it can only connect to 2.4 ghz wifi. Not sure if that's important. This is happens even if no one is home, so I know it's not caused by another user.

The thing is my iphone 5s wifi works perfectly. I initially suspected it was a recent java update I did, so I did a system restore and the internet seemed to be fine for a day after that..now it's really slow again and it's been slow these past few days.

They are pretty random intervals of internet being incredibly slow..then it would work again for a couple seconds...then become slow again.

Here is my ipconfig data. I've also a screenshot of Xirrus Wi-Fi inspector. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!
