Q: 2 months out of warranty

Hi, Inspiron 13 7000, 2 months out of warranty and they are telling me its tough, pay for repair at 80% of original cost, if this is not uncommon then is this a design fault that can be challenged ?
Pretty poor customer service, theres no way the part is costing them that.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

A warranty is supposidly 12 months yet i have only had mine 1 1/2 months and is says i only have 8 months warranty left, somethings wrong there and looking at the dispute page it looks like you cant dispute it until they says its run out????

Hi Is it registered with HP? When registration occurs the warranty would be adjusted to start from the born on date (I think you press ESC and then F1 to view this). So if you could try that and then ask again if there is still a difficulty.

I have purchased one Dell Vostro 3546 series laptop 2 days back i.e 4th June 2015. When I checked the Warranty details for my laptop (tag <ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy>) it shows that the warranty will expire on 24-Dec-15 which is less than 6 months whereas the Dell provides the 15 months warranty for this laptop.
It shows that the product is shipped on 24-Sep-14 and thus the warranty will expire on 24-Dec-15 but how come the warranty will expire when the product was not at all purchased by customer.
I have purchased this laptop from authorized dealer under the bill from Nehru Place and request you to please let me know the solution for my problem.

You need to register the system with Dell (transfer ownership to your name) to initialize the warranty.

Hello, I have bought this HP 15 Notebook (product no. N4G35PA#ACJ) from Flipkart.com on 18th march 2016. As per the invoice/purchse date (18-03-2016) and product description (1 year warranty) the warranty should end in 24 March 2016. But I can see (on 16-05-2016) in the HP support assistant window that it is showing "Warranty and services remaining for 8 months". It means I get only 10 months warranty on the product and not 12 months. I registered my product as soon as I received and started using it in March 2016. I donýt understand why it is showing like this. And what do I need to do to rectify the warranty information. Please suggest ASAP.

I bought a Dell Inspiron 15 5567 on 2/01/2017 from Reliance Digital Store Pune. Dell support assist shows that my warranty started on 14/09/2016 and will end on 14/09/2017. As far as I know warranty should start from the date of purchase on the invoice. So I searched a little bit and got to know about the ownership transfer process. I did that 15 days ago but still haven't received any notification regarding the same. Can you guys please help regarding this process. I don't know what to do now as my warranty will end in 12 days.

If the ownership transfer doesn't go through, contact the seller to find out why - if the system was originally sold through a grey market channel, you can indeed have transfer issues - your seller should be able to tell you.

About a month ago my computer would not charge. Purchased a new power cord but that was not the issue. The motherboard has went out on the computer. I paid about $1200.00 for this computer hoping it would last me through college. Now halfway though my second year, I'm looking at having to buy a new computer. Two issues here: 1. purchased the laptop 12/04/2016 - Warranty expired 14/08/2016 (4 months) 2. In December, my laptop starting resetting itself (still in warranty). Its now May, and Lenovo are still refusing to give me a refund or a replacement. I feel I've been very understanding and patient at all the slow failed attempts to deal with the problem, but I'm completely fed up now. I'm a student, so having a reliable laptop is obviously really helpful, but I've spent many weeks of this year without a laptop whilst Lenovo have tried to repair it, and the rest of the time I've had a laptop that resets without warning which means I sometimes lose work even though I save my work regularly and back it up.  In January, it was sent to be repaired, they replaced the hard drive, but the problem still kept happening when it came back in February. In February, it was sent to be repaired again. They couldn't replicate the problem so claimed it was working fine (even though I had sent evidence that it wasn't fine, each reset left reports in the reliability monitor about bug report 124 and that it was a hardware error). So they sent it back unchanged after several weeks. Lenovo told me if the problem was still happening that they would refund or replace it.However, when I reported it still did happen, they said actually it was Lenovo's policy that there must be three failed repairs before they would do that.So in March I sent it off again to be repaired, this time they acknowledged again there was a fault, but they just replaced the hard drive. I've been trying to find a solution to this online for a few days now and haven't come across anything. I have a Toshiba Satellite Fusion. It was working beautifully until the other day when I went to use it. It wouldn't power up so I assumed the battery was dead. Plugged it in and the charging light didn't come on but the computer powered on. The laptop recognizes that it's plugged in and shows that the batter has a 100% charge on it but will not run unless it's plugged and will shut off instantly when unplugged. I've tried using another charging cable with no luck and I'm unsure at this point what next step to take. I would pop the battery out and put it back in but this one doesn't have an easily accessible battery and I'm trying to avoid taking it apart if possible. I haven't located a battery reset button on the bottom either.

As noted in the title it's two months out of warranty otherwise I'd just send it in.

Any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

I update and save quite a few files each day, and I can see in File History that there are many saved versions for these files.
This would fill up my backup drive fairly quickly, and therefore, I need to reduce 'Keep saved versions' from the default of 'forever' to about 3 months.  But does this mean that all files older than 3 months will be deleted my File History backup?
 What happens to all my files that have only ever been saved once, but are older than 3 months?  Are these retained in File History or deleted?

Okay first of all I would like to say I have been having on going issues for months to almost a year... I have tried everything I can think of... Including wiping harddrives to DoD standards with dban, gparted etc.... I have tried monitering my connections with wireshark...  I have tried several differet anti- (virus and malware) programs including paid version of kaspersky, malwarebytes, bitdefender, eset.....
 
This problem also has involved some black hat hackers compromising my system and bank account, credit card etc all being hit and continueing to do so... I have switched ISPs , changed hardware, thrown away devices including cell phones and laptops... It seems that they were also backdoored into several of my devices and were using several different methods to continue to spread and infect other devices.. These devices include android, iphone, ipod, ipad, netbook, laptop, smart tv and even my dvd player (java).. I have tried to ask for help and seek help for this and no one can figure it out or think this cant be real.
 
I have now thrown out all laptops, and all phones at the same time and started from scratch but having issues on a brand new laptop... I am not sure this is the same issue as before... However, I would like and really appreciate if someone could help me out and view my logs and make sure.. because I have been through hell and back with all these issues.. I bought a Lenov Ideapad 510 15IKB on 14th April 2017. Now I'm facing 2 issues with the warranty registration and warranty upgrade: Issue#1On April 16th I registered the base warranty of my product as it should start from the purchase date of my product. After few email conversations for purchase proof, finally on 3rd May, I received email confirming the base warranty registration of my product. I know, being patient is one of the rules, so I apologize in advance. Maybe the title I chose, "down for months" gives the impression that I'm not too interested in resolving this issue - I don't know. I am very interested in getting help with this. I realize this is free voluntary help, and I appreciate that. I noticed that I've had 28 or 29 views, but no one has replied. I'm honestly not trying to seem impatient. Just curious that's all. I have no idea what's wrong with this computer, or how to read that DDS log. My concern is that, since there have been 29 views, I'm assuming those who do know how to read that log have looked at it and decided not to get involved, for whatever reason. If someone who reads the log and doesn't want to help could just leave me a reply saying, "You're screwed - your computer is now an anchor" that would be very much appreciated also.

Site looks great... But, when you put in OT at work and have a new born at home it's hard to visit your favorite forum.... I had a quicky for the group to help solve - a 3 parter.

1st part - create a user form to display xml data - what is the vba code to display an xml node in a user form text box.

2nd part - create a macro that when run captures the hilighted words in the current PPT slide then displays it in the VBA userform textbox.

3rd part - on the same userform create a button and code that when clicked will add the text from the "selected text" field then add it to the XML doc.

hi i get bsod since a while and mostly while watching videos etc. the dump is attached. i have a dv7 2037ez hp laptop. mobility 4650, amd zm-84 2.3 ghz 4 gb ram. as we know the fan is very loud since ever and the heat problem of a common hp issue exists here too. i had some error cods on bluescreen lie 00...x124 and other i think. sometimes it says hardware error. pls help

Hi, I'm coming here because everytime I format my computer into Windows 7, it'll show up a BSOD of uncorrectable hardware error while playing games, but in this case, it's Grand Theft Auto - San Andreas.

Any ideas?

If you are getting BSOD's & want them analyzed please follow the directions below -

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:
** Until a .dmp file is generated, the Minidump folder may not exist.**

*Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl Press Enter.
*Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
*Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
*Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kb) in the drop down box (the 256kb varies).
*Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
*OK.
Reboot if changes have been made.

BSOD has been happening over the last 4 months. I've tried everything I know of and can't seem to figure it out.

First off, thanks for being there
Iv'e been suffering from bsod since shortly after build, done lots of re instals, different discs,every,test Ican find no change memtest (ok) memtest 86 older version (ok).
When I run Mem86_4 ALL of the sticks fail at test 7 (block movement ?) in every
configuration, 4,2x2, single, tried them all.
She does run in safemode with networking,but bsod on normal start.
I'm using my laptop for this.
I think I really need help here

Seems you've got back sticks of RAM, just buy new RAM and it'll be fine
Test each stick separately to identify the defective one(s)

I have had 107 BSOD's the last two months, and when I sent the computer into the shop to get fixed up, the only diagnoses the geniuses had was that there was nothing wrong with the computer. This Gateway SX2850-33 was bought in mid-December and has been crashing since April 12th.

Got the blue screen while only reading a message board. Had problems with user acct so I made new one. Did a few scans on my own. Security message about setting for IE. Now got a message about illegal operation for something that was sceduled for deletion in system 86 when I tried to use IE or chrome. i switched users to use IE.

Hello everyone, I have looked around everywhere to try to sort my problems out but I've had no luck. Now I've decided to bite the bullet and ask for help. I had a computer built about 3 months ago. Everything was fine at first, then I started to get BSOD.

First the errors were due to 'a clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor' but now they are going into a more serious 'uncorrectable hardware error'. I'm after potentially pinning down the dodgey component and sending it back, or fixing it - and I'm hoping someone would be kind enough to help. I'll try to provide as much info as I can:

It is much easier to find patterns, etc, when there are more than one crash. We prefer you wait until you have at least two so that if one is corrupt the other probably wont be.
That being said the single log blames BCC 101

Okay. I just did the whole reply with HJT logs and do combofix like a billion times over at GeeksToGo. All the malware/spyware was removed (apparently) from my system. Now, I've been scanning my system weekly with AVG8 and Spybot, but I seem to be missing this trojan thats affecting things on my system.

I CANNOT RUN HIJACKTHIS. It wont let me. I uninstalled, reinstalled, did it 3 times. Cant run it. Wtf? =( The trojan must be pretty serious for it to block a program from me using.

I honestly do not know what to post here because I cannot run Hijackthis. I'm running WinXP 32bit SP3, on a Q6600 quad core at 2.4ghz, 2ghz DDR2 ram, and I need help ridding this spyware from my system. I would attempt combofix and kaspersky myself, but I dont know the scripts for CF and I figure the infection would just outsmart me anyways.

I need some advice on what I can do first, as I have no logs or anything to post here so far. I can list the symptoms aswell.

Symptoms:
Google searches are redirecting me and opening new tab windows, sometimes directing me to a completely different site then what I was searching for.
Certain sites say I have been infected by a trojan which is DOS attacking them when I try to connect to their servers.
MSN Hotmail isnt able to open whatsoever. I have to go through mail.live.ca to get to my inbox. Buttons on msn arent working??
I do my fairshare of downloading, and certain sites wont even let me connect anymore, even though I am able to connect on this network ... Read more

Okay so I managed to work around the HJT problem by just renaming the program to HJT instead of hijackthis. Security Software: ??? I recommend either of these two setups:Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows

Good and Free system security combination.
Download and install the security setup of your choice, update the software, and then run a full scan of your system for viruses and malware. If you only install MSE, I would also suggest installing and updating Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware, anti-virus and spyware removal download, but do not start the free trial/full version of Malwarebytes. Run a full scan with Malwarebytes after updating it. Post back the results.


Which ASUS P5K motherboard do you have installed? Please fill in your system specs more accurately by using System Info - See Your System Specs as a guide. Fill the specs in on your profile, not in a post in this thread.

After 6 months of using a brand new computer with Windows Xp home (SP2 fully updated) licence, i got a message about registering my product again. I did all the procedure of registrate my copy, succesfully. But when i rebooted my computer i got the same message about registration. I tried to contact microsoft but by now i dont have any answer. Do you know anything about, is it a virus?

Hi guys.. well first of all thanks for reading my problem ...
Since about May I have been having problems with my Pc but had been finding ways for it to work somehow but today the same problem that has been going on for 3 months started again... I have a Pentium 4 Pc 1.6GHz 394mb Ram and have Windows Xp Pro installed...

The problem is that many times my computer crashes and runs into a blue screen that states that the file "sys32k.sys" has caused an error and the computer has been shut down... another blue screen that appears states that there is a "memory_management" problem and that the computer was shut down and a third blue scrren that appears says that there was a fatal error and that windows could not be started...

this last blue screen appears only whe starting up windows... and the first 2 while I am usually working or simply while on the desktop...

this is making me NUTS... literally...
I have the theory that my Hard Drive is the one with the problem because I have formatted the drive completely about 10 times and made a clean windows Xp again and the same problem appears or that my windows xp is faulty and doesn't install the file -->"sys32k.sys" correctly... I even changed the motherboard and tested it without the VideoCard I recently bought (which I taught was the original problem) but the same occurs.. I also tried using the recovery console that comes in the Windows XP instalation disc and repairing the current instala... Read more

The beginning of this year my laptop caught a virus. Trojan! and the moment i got rid of it all of my administrator privileges kinda stopped working. and this seems to apply to all files with exe. I have to always run as admin. but before i didnt have to right click and run as admin. if this makes sense. Ive followed the tutorial that "BRINK" has posted up. Id rather have my laptop back in its original state then going through all my programs and selecting all to run as Admin. My main account is Administrator. I have tried and googled as much information i can but nothing could HELP! ANYONE with a good and real Solution please HELP me out..
