Preferred Solution: Web browsers not working

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...p;#entry1730681Now that your log is properly posted at the above link, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a Malware Removal Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. From this point on the Malware Removal Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the Malware Removal Team members are very busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the Malware Removal Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic.

A:My 32-bit browsers and Skype are not working online but My 64-bit browser is working

only 64 bit browsers wiil work with 64 bit Operating sysytems....

Each of those you listed have 64 bit versions

Set up IE 8 first and get it connected to the net by going to Tool/options...hit the connections tab and fill it in.

When you install the others after fixing up IE... it will copy the connection information from IE and set up automatically.

Personally, I would stick to having just one browser...most of them do pretty much the same thing these days

Wed. I came home and Windows had restarted itself for an update. Everything worked fine before that. After the restart everything was VERY slow, including the mouse pointer - jumped around the screen instead of moving smoothly.

I noticed Zonealarm kept giving me a message saying it was initializing, and to press cancel to shut down ZA. Whether I pressed cancel or not, the message kept appearing and going away. I noticed in task manager that vsmon.exe was at 400,000 in the process tab.

Anyways, I unistalled ZA with the help of a zip file I found in one of these forums and the computer is not slow anymore, but now none of my browsers work: google chrome, IE7, firefox, and safari.

When I first had the problem with the slow computer I did full scans with AVG, Ad Aware, and Malwarebytes- No Infections found. I was able to update these programs before but now even they can't get online for updates.

WTF? Anyone?

This woman wanted parental controls on her granddaughter's laptop (Win 7 x64, was a christmas present, mcafee installed and working). I went the opendns route for the parental control, and everything was great except that they had installed some sketchy looking "Action Alert Internet Parenting" junk (note, this isn't the dongle you'll see in searches for that, it's just a piece of software). Grandma had managed not only to forget the password for it, but had supplied an incorrect email address, making it impossible to do anything about the password. I ended up removing it by knocking out its main registry entries, then reinstalling it with a new password and doing a proper uninstall.

So what I have now is a situation where DNS doesn't work, specifically in the browser(s). I know the action alert junk had an LSP installed... it's no longer there, and I would think that netsh winsock reset should've fixed a problem of that sort anyway. Here's what I've done, and this is on my home network I'm speaking to you from, so it's not a network/internet issue.

Symptom: Cannot visit any website in a browser (tried firefox and IE, chrome won't install b/c the stub they give you can't find a source).

I need some help, A friend of mine msg'ed me asking me if i could help and well I really need help so.

My friend says since about yesterday (august 16 ) she hasn't been able to access any website using either IE or Mozilla Firefox. But she is still connected to the internet cause she is able to message me on Aim. She said it started after she tried to install Windows live. After she found out her web browser no longer worked she freaked and got rid of windows live. I did some research and I think that it could be a vx2 infection. But I'm not really sure. But I tried to get Ad-Aware to work on my computer with the VX2 plug-in and no matter what i try i cant get the plug-in to work so i can send her the whole thing and have her scan her computer. Can anyone please help me. I'm sorry but i cant get any hijack this logs so. And if you think its anything else like male-ware or something plz tell me so i can help her and learn from this

A:Web browsers not working but IM's are

Hey, this could be a number of things, i haven't researched the VX2 infection you mention but i did find a "Manual Removal" guide here:
(it's further down the page than the description)...

But technically you don't know whether it is that or not so it would be wise to go through the forum's 5 step guide:
(Which i think would need a HJT log if nothing else works)

If your friend installed Windows Live from the main page(a trusted source) it shouldn't be malware, but i can see how it could be.

Browsers, etc. can also be blocked by firewalls, make sure she's not blocking her browsers with a firewall.

If all else fails get her to un-install windows live(and see if it magically works), you could also try e-mailing someone at windows live's support to see if they've come accross the problem before(but i'll leave you to find that address/contact if you chose to).

Hi. I'm very new to this.
As my subscription to Webroot was about to expire, I decided to change to Mcafee Total Protection as it was cheaper. I uninstalled Webroot and downloaded Mcafee. Mcafee had some issues installing due to Trend anti virus which I eventually managed to delete.

After that, Skype worked fine but no Internet browsers. Google Chrome will load but any site shows a 103 error. IE9 tries to load but then gives up before a window appears. I later added Firefox which just stops responding. All programs are fine in Safe Mode with networking. Chrome in normal mode will load https sites but not http. I've tried downloading and running spybot and ccleaner - no difference.

I have also tried system restore without luck. I've tried the system with all firewalls off and after removing Mcafee with their removal tool - no difference. I've also tried other things I've read but not fully understood including msconfig, winsock and things in command tk do eith ping - all ok and ipconfig.

I really hope someone can help - fed up eith late nights dealing with it.

Im a new member and am not sure how this works, but I'll just type my issue and see what happens.

My computer had a virus or something that would redirect every URL I typed in to "XP Anti-Spyware and Malware Software" applications. Pop-ups also began, advising me to update my anti-virus software as well. A friend of mine's brother went through and "fixed" the problem, but now every time I try to open any of my browsers, an "Open With" prompt comes up. The only recommended program is Internet explorer and when I choose it, a browser window pops up for a couple seconds and Im kicked out to a "File Download - Security Warning" prompt that asks to save, run or cancel the file "iexplorer.exe". Did the kid that helped with the virus uninstall something I need to access my browsers? If so, what can I do to get my browsers to function properly again.?

I have a freind with a problem......no really it's a freind!

They have a Compaq desktop which is hard-wired to a 2wire 2700-hg modem/router. basically, they are unable to connect to the internet using that desktop. However, the wifi works just fine.

Sometime last week the problem started with just unusual/slow computer behavior in general. I assumed it was a virus or spyware, so I downloaded Avast and Ad Aware. (At this time the browsers worked) Both found significant infections which were deleted. At this point the browsers still worked, but after doing a google search, the links on the results page would be redirected to another, non related site. (cutting and pasting the URL did the trick, though) Subequently, the browsers (IE7, Firefox, Safari) all just stopped working. Now when attempting to connect to the internet, they just come up with the screen "internet explorer cannot display the webpage." or equivalent for the respective browser.

I've run multiple spyware, malware, and anti-virus software, (Malwarebytes, Ad Aware, Avast, pctools, spyware doctor) all have come up with infections which are then deleted. I am able to ping yahoo using ipconfig and FTP seems to work OK (avast updated its database while I was trying to troubleshoot all of this.)

Any ideas on what to do next?

Thanks for reading my long-winded post,

So all of a sudden, all my web browsers (chrome firefox) stopped working except for internet explorer. I click the icon and the process shows up in the task manager but the window doesn't come up, even after several minutes. sometimes it comes up but then crashes the second it does so.

restarted computer --> problem not resolved

scanned with avast --> nothing found --> problem not resolved

scanned with malwarebytes --> 7 threats found --> 7 threats removed --> no change still. so problem not resolved.

well.... i'm out of ideas....... assistance appreciated.

note: it's jsut the web browsers that i'm having the issue with. other things that are internet dependent are unaffected

note2: for some reason, anything i try to download through internet explorer says "file cannot be downloaded" (i'm not sure if that is relevant.)

but that's all i know and all i've observed and done and what not.

Okay, so I've been hitting a roadblock for a few days now.

I subscribed to Marvel Unlimited a few months back, I immediately had problems, but eventually got around it by using internet explorer instead of Chrome, but now I cant get past the sign in screen on internet explorer/edge.

When I go to this screen, there's a "Sign In with User Name" link to click which spawns a window/field to enter your username.

It used to work. Now nothing happens. It doesnt try to load and fail. It just gets no response.

Now alternatively you could help me to get Chrome and Firefox to run this site.

When I try to make the site work in Chrome/Firefox certain aspects of the site dont work with my cursor. For example if you click comics and end up on this page.

If I hover the cursor over "browse" it's supposed to create a dropdown menu which lets you access Series, Characters, Creators... In Chrome/Firefox nothing happens. There's no response to hovering the cursor.

And even if I jump past this drop down menu by straight pasting the "series" link into the address bar. The comics themselves wont react to any clicking.

Everything but the sign in button works perfectly in explorer. hovering over browse works. The comics work.

And the Sign In button works in Chrome/Firefox works but nothing else works.

A:3 browsers. Still not working.

Any other solutions? I've had a few people look at this problem now and it's stumped everyone.

the only way i can get them to work is if i keep rebooting every 30 mins or so.

A possible solution may be that a firewall update changed your internet security settings and is killing your browsers. Try temporarily deactivating your firewalls and see if that fixes it. If it does than go into your firewall program and change the internet security settings in it.Have you scanned for Malware?Flush DNS cacheYou'll need to run cmd.exe as an Administrator. Hello all;

Two days ago I upgraded to Firefox and from that moment, the only browser that works on my computer is IE (6.0, never updated and very rarely used since I got this computer).

I only had FF and IE to begin with and thought that there was just something wrong with FF when I downloaded the new version, but after two days of reading more forums and support pages than I can even remember anymore, following all of firefox support's suggestions (I did everything in their standard diagnostic, including a clean reinstall), in desperation I downloaded Netscape and then Opera, both of which immediately followed FF's lead.

What happens when I try to open any browser other than IE is this: It looks for a moment as if it's going to do something, complete with hourglass and computer-is-working noises. And then nothing happens. When I open task manager, the process for the browser (be it firefox.exe, etc.) is running and cannot be killed. Also, I cannot open any of them in their safe mode. If I open Windows in safe mode they'll work, but there's so much in the normal mode that could be the problem that I don't know where to start looking.

What I've tried: creating a new profile, removing the plugins, resetting the extensions to default, uninstalling and reinstalling firefox (1.5 and 2.0 versions; this involved the previously mentioned clean reinstall complete with removal of reg keys), resetting toolbars and controls, turning the fir... Initially, weeks ago, I couldn't connect to wifi but I got that resolved. Then none of my browsers would work so I tried all the suggested fixes I could find. One of those was uninstalling my upgraded anti virus from avast but I wasn't sure that was a good move to leave my computer vulnerable to viruses so I just set it to minimal protection. Then I tried Firefox, chrome and for the hell of it, internet explorer (hey, I was desperate!) Firefox partially opens and then freezes saying it's no longer responding. Upon opening i.e. it promptly closes and a window pops up that says internet explorer cannot download rdr.aspx from homepage.gateway.com. Behind that window a download box opens and shows files flying into a folder but it's at 0% and stays that way. Chrome will actually open and then when I start typing in the url it freezes and says it's not responding. I'm using an HP laptop with Windows 8.1. A few days ago (I haven't had time to really delve into it until now) my browsers suddenly stopped loading any and all web pages. Mostly I use an older version of Firefox (because I can't live without my roomy bookmarks toolbar and the newest Firefox doesn't support it). Firefox just gets stuck on the TLS handshake phase forever. I tried Internet Explorer and SRWare Iron as well, and had the same problem. All websites refuse to load. Then I remembered I have a 4th browser: Avast Secure Browser. So I tried that one, and was able to access my email and a few other sites, but not all of them. And once I remembered that, I remembered that I recently updated the Avast Secure Browser, because Avast wouldn't stop bugging me about it. It's possible that I did this right before my browser trouble began, but I'm not positive. (Perhaps Avast put some security measure in place that hinders all my other browsers?) Restarting my computer and resetting my internet connection did not help. And the browsers are the only things that don't work. My Dropbox is online and functioning, and my Trillian instant messenger works just fine. My phone, my kindle, and my roommate's laptop all are working just fine with their browsers and the internet. I have no idea what happend, i just restarted my computer and when i tried to run firefox it wouldent load, i tried IE and no luck either

But i ran Trillian (My IM client) and it ran fine so did the Itunes Music Store
i used the built in browser in trillian to download Opera ran it, same result as Firefox & IE

I think this trillian browser uses IE as the backbone , so there should be no reason why IE doesnt work

I am new and this is my first post.

My problem is that my browsers are not working!
I've tried I.E., Firefox and Opera, and it always says the page cannot be displayed or that it could not connect.

I don't think the problem is internet connection since I can go on MSN

I would very much appreciate your help.

Good Morning,
I'm working on a Sony Vaio laptop with a 32bit Windows Vista. About a month ago, my Google Chrome browser stopped working so I installed Firebox, which seemed to work.
However, when I try to stream videos from a website I'm a paying member to it doesn't work and the techs there say it might be best to switch browsers.
I have tried downloading IE, Safari, Opera, and others and none of these seem to work.
Also, my Itunes Store does not work.
The common problem is that it says it cannot connect to the server, however my internet works fine through Firefox, MSN messenger and other computers on my network.

I would like to be able to use other browsers, and my Itunes Store again.

Please Help!

I had been troubleshooting internet disconnects using Java based software
called Internet Connection Monitor. I ran it for several days without problems
and then one evening the computer was hosed up. It had rebooted back into
Windows XP which I kept on the computer as a dual boot and after restarting it
refused to boot Win 7. It suggested last known good settings and half way
through it initiated a restore and finally booted to Win 7. However all was not
well. None of the 32 bit browsers were working, only IE9 64 bit also
Malwarebytes will not update and Outlook won't open at all.
After searching a bit I downloaded and ran Malwarebyte rootkit removal it
found something and looks like it fixed that. A complete scan found some more
viruses which got removed. I have tried flushing DNS, releasing and renewing
ipconfig, and some other commands all to no avail the browsers still won’t
work. I have looked at system restore but there are only restores for after the
problem occurred.
Please any help is appreciated

Regards Alan

I have a problem that my browsers (IE, Firefox or Safari) wont bring up any web page/s. The only recent changes to this PC is the removal of a demo program "Ashampoo" through "Add and Remove programs".

On the same PC, my email and Skype work seamlessly and other PCs on the home network have no browser problems.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Hi All.

I have been working on a laptop the last 2 days and it has me stumped. I was told there was no internet connection and that's about all.
So far I have done several virus/ malware/ spyware scans. Removed "tool"bars, temp folders and all the usual general clean ups.
I have updated and reinstalled all network drivers and uninstalled all browsers (after testing them) except IE.
Ran repairs on network protocols and settings, checked IP config etc.
I have internet connection going by windows 7 network sharing center and I am receiving updates for windows and adobe. So I believe I have internet connection.
It has me stumped, I'm thinking a registry key or such has been corrupted and a full clean install. But I'm hoping its fixable.
I had to go home early and talk to Jim Beam to relax and get this off my chest. Thing is he's a good listener but not a sage of advice.
Tools I have ran and have at hand are D7 and Hirens, I want to fix this and learn somthing, so anyone got a an idea?
Cheers in advance.
From groom.

I must first apologise for this being a vague post as I don't exactly know what's wrong with my computer.
OS Windows 7 Ultimate 6.1.7600 32bit

Suspected origin - from browsing the site hdreactor.com i was redirected to another russian site which tried to automatically download stuff (.exe files) which ESET Smart Security 4 blocked (at least most of (i fear something may have gotten through)). No recent programs etc have been installed.

Tried to solve problems by running Eset scans, MalwareBytes, Spybot S&D, Auslogics Speedboost and SpyHunter.

Current symptoms:
Google Chrome will not load any pages it just sits on a blank screening. Tried reinstalling but no effect.
iexplore and firefox sometimes won?t open at all but process is running(~1600K), after ending the process tree from task manager it usually works next time loaded.
Many instances of skolewcho.com/(somerandomstring) get blocked by ESET and similarly from lkckclckli1i.com/(somerandomstring) when usually just browsing google but not exclusive to search redirects.
Recently, when booting in safe mode, I couldn?t open explorer.exe and some error regarding some windows service would show up but having just checked this, it seems to be fixed now. I don?t know if that had anything to do with it.

I was on the internet a few hours ago now and all of a sudden, the browsers began to run incredibly slowly- it takes 2 minutes to load pages, open tabs, etc (including history and settings). Even the shortcut is acting weird.

I normally use Chrome but IE is also acting up. Anyone have any ideas?

Additional info:
-Windows 7, Dell XPS 13
-University network, everyone else seems to be fine
-Ran several malware scans incl. safe mode. Used Malwarebytes and Norton. Clean bill of health.
-Nothing else is affected. Internet is CONNECTED and running normally. Ping also returned normal. Cache deleted, history deleted, DNS cleared (tried switching DNS servers just to see what would happen. No result.)

Help me, please and thank you!!!

Figured out that the internet would work fine UNTIL I started Chrome, then everything would start crashing. Uninstalled and re-installed chrome to no avail.

I've got Firefox now but would love to have chrome again. Any suggestions?

I am a web developer, and so need access to a large number of web browsers. About a week ago Chrome stopped working with the error Error 10 (net::ERR_ACCESS_DENIED): Unknown error. I reinstalled with no success. I then had work which required firefox and opera. I downloaded and installed these but both of these are unable to load web pages.

I can, however, use IE8 as normal. Outlook, thunderbird and a number of other desktop programs can also access the internet fine. I can ping fine.

Firefox, opera, and chorme all work when browsing to a server installed on my local machine, but cannont browse external sites.

I disabled windows firewall and this did not make a difference. I uninstalled and reinstalled all browsers agian and restarted, this did not help. I tried creating two different user accounts, one administrator and one normal, both of these can run ie8 fine, but not the other web browsers.

I am very confused as to what could be causing this and would love it if someone can help!

A:All browsers apart from IE now working

This error seems to be caused by an Anti-Virus update not working right. You can try reinstalling your AV, or remove the update.

I previously opened a thread on the spyware forum ( http://forums.techguy.org/virus-other-malware-removal/928264-can-connect-internet-but-browsers.html ) thinking that my problem was of that nature.

Basically, none of my browsers (IE, firefox, Chrome) work. But, my antivirus can still access the internet to update its database and I can still log onto Windows Live messenger.

I hope someone here has a solution to my problem

A:web-browsers not working.

Hi ryan023,

On the computer with the web browser problem, have you checked to see whether your firewall (maybe you have a hardware firewall in the router) allows the web browser to pass traffic through it.

Also, do you have a software firewall 3rd party application? If so, you need to allow the web browser to pass traffic through the firewall.

Are you accessing the Internet as admin or regular user? Safer to do it as regular user.

Hi I am new here, but I have had my first major problem with a windows 8 machine.

It's on an new laptop pre installed with windows 8, after doing all the updates that a new laptop always requires, I tryed using the browsers, first IE then FF but neither will connect to any web page but will allow downloads as I got FF by using the browsers selection screen and selecting FF then this downloaded through IE.

It is the weirdest problem I have had with Windows 8, there is full internet access, it downloads updates from microsoft, vaio etc but when it trys to connect to a web page on either browser it just spins and spins looking for the web page.

Are there any ideas what this could be as typically this is not a clients machine but a new machine purchased for my Mum and it's really getting annoying.

A:No browsers working in 8

Did you have internet access before you downloaded those Windows Updates? Did you download any "optional" driver updates? If so, you might have downloaded/installed an optional driver update (from Windows Update) that may be causing your problem. Try "rolling back" all updated drivers and retest.

Sounds like your upgrade went awry. I also had a problematic upgrade experience and the system was half-dead, so I ended up doing a Refresh and now all is well.
