Picking a new keyboard is hard to do. Any thoughts?

Q: Picking a new keyboard is hard to do. Any thoughts?

Hi all, I'm having a hard time picking a new key board. So I thought I would put it out to all of you.

I have a few key requirements though, they are as follows:
1)Lighted keys
3)needs to work with mint, windows(XP,Vista) & Ubuntu

I have Googled, Looked at Newegg and Amazon and I keep getting the same end result.... Logitech K800:approve::slurp: Link to Logitech page: http://www.logitech.com/en-us/keyboards/keyboard/devices/7288

So after that I would buy it but the price is a bit higher than I wanted to pay. However it would be the best fit for me..anyway I wanted to know if any of you know a better site, brand, ect that I could check out before I get paid

Preferred Solution: Picking a new keyboard is hard to do. Any thoughts?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Thoughts on my keyboard and mouse?(gaming)

Well for "real gaming" I couldn't live without my N52 gaming keypad (Seperate keypad for gaming, not a keyboard).

I then have an earlier version of thet KB just for the backlighting but I don't use anyoff the gaming features on it really, but otherwise a decent KB.

I got a new PC in a sense. My Acer I took to be fixed, had died. So he rebuilt me a PC using a refurbished Advent Windows 10 Tower.
It's a Advent Tower, Dell Monitor, and Acer Keyboard and Mouse.

The keyboard and mouse are going. It scrolls and does things I don't want.
It made typing here impossible.

Since I've now got a nice big game friendly tower, with lots of ventilation, and I'm getting a graphics card to avoid it dying. Since I game a lot.
I decided to get a gaming keyboard and mouse.
Since my current ones are dying.

Can you recommend a gaming keyboard and mouse that goes with windows 10, my machine.
Not too expensive, under ?100. If possible. Doesn't have to be fancy, just a gaming set.

Hello, I have been having a ton of trouble using my new Logitech USB Desktop Mic. The sound quality is great, but it picks up EVERYTHING within like 5 feet of it, extremely notably my mouse and keyboard. I have tried using a sponge as kind of a filter, but it only cut off the high end, and the sounds were just slightly bassier. It is plug-n-play so there isn't any more customization that can be used other than what I can do in the control panel. I am wondering if there are any tricks to make it stop, or will I need a quieter mouse and keyboard? I have looked at silent mice, but none of them had good reviews, and plus I am in the process of getting my replacement Razer Naga for the THIRD time. Any help is greatly appreciated, Arethor.

Brand new P53 - i9-9880H / 32GB / 1TB / RTX4000 after using for 1 month... Experienced isssues with the following: 1) Precision Touchpad and track buttons auto clicking and auto selecting. Tapped once but it double taps. Changed settings in windows from sensitivity to ease of access, uninstalled and reinstalled to latest drivers. Spoke with support and now it has to go back to depot for repairs.  2) Spacebar squeak noise 3) Battery life average giving maybe 2.5 hrs (just day to day usage - no heavy resource software running - vscode, office, etc) I had high expectations but my P50 is giving me less issues than the P53. Firstly I'd like to say that I'm glad to be joining the site, you guys seem to be doing great job here!

Like I said, it's tricky to explain this properly, but I'll try anyway. Windows won't let me interact with different windows properly. Once a window is minimized it's next to impossible to access it again without using taskmanager - switch to. If I click on the window from the taskbar (if it had been minimized of I was viewing another window) it come up fullscreen as usual, but then I can't click on anything on the window, it's as if I'm clicking "behind" the window, no matter what I try.
Maybe a clearer way of describing it is that the only way I can change the active window is with task manager, items in the task bar can be switched in and out of view but not activated.
Also occasionally icons on the desktop are unresponsive. And I also forgot to say that sometimes the task bar is sometimes completely unresponsive.

Anyone have any ideas? If you have any questions it might help for me to describe it, as I don't really know what you're looking for in terms of figuring out the problem. I'd love to get this sorted as it's incredibly frustrating!

I'm looking into getting a new hard drive for my Inspiron 1501 laptop. Currently its only the 80gig one that came with it. My two choices are a Hitachi 200GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache Serial ATA150, and a Western Digital 320GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s. Which one would be the better choice? After i got bios actually picking the 2gb up, windows will not pick up my F drive (200gb IDE seagate). It's just disappeared in the my computer window. ??

Bios still picks the drive up and shows details of it on boot up.

im going to put in it my mates computer tonight to see if his machine picks it up.

i have cleared bios quite a few times. windows still does not pickup my drive.

Hello. I have a couple hard drives that my uncle was using previously, but he was recently hacked and got a really elusive virus on all of them. I have a USB hard disk adapter to connect to the hard drives externally, but if I connect any one of these hard drives to Windows, I risk picking up the virus automatically. I do have Ubuntu, but I am having trouble getting to the information on the other partitions.
How do I prevent Windows from automatically reading and executing infectious programs when I insert removable media?

A:Need to get into hard disk, but risk picking up a virus

Well, go into Windows and set your antivirus to automatically scan external drives. Make sure you turn off the external drive via a power button or just the power plug. Keep the USB in the PC, and then power on the external drive. The antivirus should automatically scan it.

Hi all,

I have been having issues getting my 1.5 TB Toshiba external to work with my Lenovo laptop. I am running Windows 7 64bit. When plugging the external into the laptop, nothing happens, it does not show up in device manager, and can't be seen anywhere. I have tried this over and over, switching the external on and off. Inserting it into a different USB port, and restarting the laptop several times.
The hard drive works fine, because if I plug it into another laptop (Also running Windows 64bit) the laptop runs fine and also works fine connected to my xbox 360. Also, this hard drive has worked once or twice on this laptop in the past.

Any idea as to what might be wrong here and how I can fix it?

A:External hard drive not picking up on Windows 7

Run Windows Update the laptop that's giving you issues. Scan for viruses and also run registry fixer like IOBIT Advanced System Care Free on that laptop. Second you can go into the Device Manager and uninstall all the USB controller drivers. Don't worry Windows will rebuild them when you log back on to the system after you do a system reboot. But I would do the first steps first just to make sure before you to the second step.

On my ASUS G73Jh laptop, I use Microsoft Security Essentials along with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free for on-demand scans. Since MSE's recent update from version 2 to 4, my hard drive I/O performance has been demolished. For a gamer and a digital content creator yet to upgrade from a 5400 RPM Seagate Momentus HDD, the impact on everyday usage has been huge. Before you flame me for writing a sensationalist post, let me explain:

Microsoft Security Essentials has a real-time protection component which, when all options are enabled, scans every single byte passing in and out of the system hard drive for evidence of malicious activity.

In version 2, this used to be configurable to only monitor incoming files, which meant that, except for a small decrease in write speeds, hard drive I/O for the most part was unaffected.

Now, in version 4, all the real-time protection options have been disabled; the only option that now exists is to turn it on or off. As I've found out, having real-time protection turned on now essentially ticks all the options that used to be configurable in version 2. This absolutely destroys drive performance since MSE will scan all files read from or written to the hard drive.

This has made not only games stutter and files take longer to open, but Windows overall is noticeably slower to respond. Just loading up MSConfig, for instance, will take 10 seconds as opposed to instantaneous with real-time protection off. I did an HDTune benchmark just ... Read more

A:Windows not picking up my hard drive (not even in disk management)

Do you hear the drive spinning? Any noticeable ticking sounds?

I'm assuming based on your post that this is an external drive, if you take the drive to just about any service shop, they should be able to pop it out of the enclosure and into a sled to check the possibility that the enclosure itself is having problems. If that's not the case, I'd probably label it a bad drive. Happens a lot, head to western digital's website with the number of the drive to check your warranty status.

Ok well, here's what's going on... I have a Hewlett Packard Pavilion P6000 Series (Model p6610f) desktop with Windows 7 (64 bit) and an AMD Athlon II 635 Quad-Core processor and 4GB of DDR3 RAM.

Now I have this IDE hard drive that I wanted to put on my motherboard for the main drive, but the motherboard only accepts SATA drives. What I had done is purchase an adapter from Vantec called an "IDE to SATA converter" where you simply plug in the adapter to the back of the hard drive along with some power from the case's power supply, and voila - you have an IDE hard drive that can now be used for the motherboard like a SATA drive.

I am right now using that adapter for the 500GB hard drive I mentioned where my OS is stored on it. I also have a 750GB hard drive for the "secondary master" in BIOS, which happens to be a true SATA hard drive. And I also have a SATA SuperMulti DVD Burner for the "Slave". That's three hard drives altogether.

I have one SATA port left for a fourth drive, so what I did was I went and bought another Vantec "IDE to SATA converter" and was getting ready to take an old IDE hard drive I have from a year ago (120GB Maxtor) and use that as my fourth drive to get data off of it. When I hooked everything up to the motherboard, BIOS was reading it, but then Windows 7 would not start up. As soon as I pulled t... Read more

Windows 10
Start - Settings - Ease of Access - Keyboard

Everything here is off. If i turn on the On-Screen Keyboard no keys are Highlighted (indicating they are depressed/stuck )
When I use the hard keyboard and sometimes even the onscreen keyboard its as if either Ctrl, Alt Win or something are pressed down as it just types shortcuts.

-H- typed into chrome browser address bar via onscreen keyboard types as normal
-H- typed into chrome browser address bar via hard keyboard brings up -Chrome://history- But now also on the onscreen keyboard Ctrl is Highlighted.
I click on the onscreen keyboard to deactivate the now highlighted Ctrl button and try again. Now things are different, as now both the onscreen keyboard and the hard keyboard both bring up ?Chrome://history- when -H- is typed ( Shift is not depressed )

This seems to randomly cycle one min onscreen keyboard works fine, next the keyboard works fine or they either work or none of the work rendering the computer useless.

I cant help feel it?s a software issue but im no pro and I don?t have an additional external keyboard to try but as the onscreen and hard keyboard work ok for a while sometimes I assume something is up and that?s what brought me here.

Hopefully this is clear enough to be understood and to help others who may have the same issue.

Hi. I have problem when trying to remove a USB connected disk drive; whenever I click on the icon in the bottom right of the task bar and choose the device to eject, once it's removed I also lose my USB keyboard - I have to manually unplug it then replug it to get it working again.

The hard drive is a rather old Maxtor 60G, NTFS.

Weirdly, the mouse, which is connected by USB through a port on the keyboard, continues to function normally... The keyboard is from Apple, the aluminium Apple model. I never had this problem with Vista.

I'd like to get the most out of what I got. My mother board is an abit IP35 Pro. And for speakers I have Creative Inspire P7800.

Coming out of the sub are all the outputs for center, sub, left & right (front, side and rear). The output cords that came with the speakers don't fully match the input for the onboard sound card.

I really don't want to spend $70+ on a sound card. Seems the onboad sound is rather descent. Sound I spend the $20-30 to get the cords that are missing. Seems that cords supplied with the speakers have 4 leads coming out of the sub and then they combine something into 3 leads going into the sound card.

Now when I go to mess around with the sound within windows I can't get anything to be produced out of the side speakers.

What would be my best option(s)?

I'm facing a very tough situation. Here I have a package that has two components, the key one is of course mine and its installation is always reliable, the other one is ms sql server 2005 express (which my company has been granted to redistribute). However, the problem is, Redmond (Microsoft)'s sql server 2005 express has quite a bit of installation problem especially for Vista machine, and the worst thing is, it could also crash a user's machine's during its installation, which is totally unacceptable. Microsoft is aware of it, however, it turns a blind eye to it, which is of course despicable as a company (even though you offer it for free).

In the meantime, MS has an element for system configuration checking to see if a machine would be able to install sql server for sql server 2008. Hence, I've requested MS via its Connect or whatever they call it to create a standalone utility for this checker for SQL Server 2005 Express 4 days ago. In the coming months I will probably be looking at running a new GPU set up. I am strung between the Geforce GTX 295 series or the ATI HD5870. Both look awesome both have good reviews. Although there are some differences. The GTX requires a whopping 680 watts of power to run and the cheapest version (non water cooled) costs a staggering almost $600 bucks. The ATI HD5870 I have heard over and over in benchmark tests it proves faster. Also it requires almost 200 watts less for power supply and it on average costs around $2-$250 less than the Geforce card.

I wanna know your thoughts. I am personally Not a huge ATI fan I have had a couple in the past and I've had some driver compatability issues. But from what I have heard the driver issues are working out and they are becoming lots more reliable. So I think I am shifting to the other side with this. I'd like some input if yall have any good things to offer. Thanks!

I just started using 7 and installed 7100 because I wanted to go with something more official and something that would have more support from others who have already installed it.

I hear that the leaked RTMs cannot be activated or something which was another reason I just avoided going higher than 7100.

Anyhow. WOW I mean seriously this is impressive. I was expecting better than vista but the 7100 build for me is making XP pro look bad in more ways than one.

I am sure of one thing. This OS is smokin fast next to anything else I have used and not just fast as in boot time or file access but because it runs so fast and smooth doing work in it has been a real pleasant experience all around.

I noticed one big thing right off and that was the optical drive access times. XP was a real dog when it came to putting any kind of disc in. I always hated having to use anything that was on a DVD or CD because you put the disc in then wait forever for it to load. This is greatly improved in 7 and that alone makes me happy as hell.

Pretty much everything happens faster in this which was actually shocking.

I could go on all day and night about the visual experience this OS is a real work of art as far as the UI goes. And it does that while only using roughly 200mb more ram than XP did for me. Again impressive to say the least.

I also like the fact that I am not rushed to install a graphics driver. I noticed that once I was on the desktop after the install I had no buggyness in the grap... Read more

There aren't any annoying little bugs in the GUI and windows explorer is set out really well. I especially like the new user directory working with the libraries and sub folders. It's just easier to understand and navigate with said library folders in the left hand panel rather than the complete folder list.

It's alot faster than Vista and installed very quickly.

The start menu, task bar and notification area are all totally configurable, which is great. Having a start menu where you can have everything or nothing, fantastic. I also love the way you can move opened programs along the task bar into whatever position you like. After being able to do this on Linux for so long, I really wanted MS to have this feature as well.. and now there it is :-)

As with Vista, MS has opted out of a real time network lights indicator in the notification area, why? Aside from a network gadget or looking at your modem lights... It was just a good idea in Xp that should have continued IMO.

Only one program issue so far... VLC won't play back smooth .avi's without windows turning aero off, the OS turns it back on though as soon as you close VLC.

All in all I'm really looking forward to win 7 being released. I'll be one of the first to buy it. :-)

What version of windows (32 or 64). Upgrade or clean install, what version of VLC, etc. PS, we might be able to help more if you filled in the my system specs in control panel

Hey, guys, I am building myself a new PC. This is what I have come out with after a lot of months researching:
CPU- AMD Athlon X4 760K
Motherboard - MSI FM2 A88XM E35
RAM- 8GB Corsair Vengeance
HDD- 500GB WD Caviar Blue
PSU- Corsair CX500 (500W)
Case- Cooler Master K280

Wondering if all these fit(a.k.a. are they compatible) and I would love to hear what do you guys think?
Thanks for your time.

That's all compatible and will work, my question though is what is your budget?

Hello all,

I did not notice any threads talking about their thoughts of IE9, so I decided to make one. Here you can discuss all of your thoughts, ideas, rants, suggestions, and any other topic pretaining to IE9.

I personally like it. I have been using Chrome for a while and decided to try the beta. I was actually impressed at the improvement over the other versions.

I'm curious as to what you guys are thinking, look forward to hearing your responces!

A:IE9 Thoughts

The install completely messed up my computer with some massive registry damage. I had to restore my entire SYSTEM and USERS hive! Apart from that, I am really impressed. Finally, an Internet Explorer that does not spend 2 minutes loading non existent toolbars. The only possible thing: I still do not like the Close Tabs dialogue. It is still not as immediately obvious, or clean, as the Firefox one.

Check your manual for your motherboard or have a look inside your case to see if you have a spare PCI-E slot. If your not sure post your motherboard make and model number in a reply and we'll have a look for you.

Depending on what your main use for the card is to be, are you going to be gaming, video editing or general use?

Hi Guys,
Over the last month I've been having some strange problems with my Pc. The monitor Screen After about 2 hours of playing games starts to go dark for a fews secs then light then dark again. This happens until I stop playing games. The Monitor is alright again.Put the game back on and it starts again. But it doesn't do it all the time.

The first time this happened, my pc wouldn't boot up again and my bios got scambled completely. The tech guy had to replace it and flash it. My power box also died.

Today it started again. I turned the game off and rebooted. I put the game back on and it started again. So I shut down my pc waited a minuite and rebooted.Halve way thru booting up my pc shuts down on me and reboots itself going on to the blue scandisk screen.

So what do you think is the problem?

*Monitor going on me?
*cpu or mobo over heating?
*Graphics Card overheating?

When I first boot up in the morning the monitor has light green lines across the screen for about 10mins or so.

My system is

Proview 19" monitor
Soltek Drv5 mobo
Amd Athlon xp 1800+
Asus Geforce4 Ti 4200
256mb ddr 2100 ram

Thanks in Advance

Hi, just thought I would ask for other peoples opinions on the following:

Had a friend phone me last night because he said his PC turned on and seemed to just go into sleep mode, went and had a look at it this evening, symptoms are as follows.

Turn PC on, fans go, brief HDD activity but nothing on the monitor, no keyboard lights, no POST etc.

Tested with working PSU, same result.

Removed RAM, same result.

Stripped down to just CPU, same result.

Basically, no matter what I do all it does is power on (fans), no POST, no beeps, nothing.

Not going to say what my conclusion was but thought I would ask peoples opinions based on this info

Hello all.

as a security concious user i am considering a VPN service like this one https://www.ipredator.se/ (came highly recommended)

You guys here seem much smarter than me and i would love to hear your thoughts, here are my reasons for considering this solution

I live in the UK where privacy is becoming a thing of the past.]

I like to watch TV shows from the USA and as i cant buy them over here for months i on occasion may use other methods to get them , this service makes this safer and easier i think.

This service seams well priced for a massive gain in my online security.

i would like to know if i could put the settings onto my router and use it directly like that. (my isp is talk talk, using talk talk router)

does anyone recommend another service? if so why?

thank you in advance for yoru help, you guys always have the best answers

EDIT: I signed up to the service. so far so good
