Computer connected to internet but it cant “access” it.

Q: Computer connected to internet but it cant “access” it.

This is a VERY weird issue and lll PayPal anybody $10 that solves.

So, a couple days ago I was playing games on my computer and force-shut down my PC since I couldn?t get the game to close. The following day I open my computer and open Chrome and the only websites I can access are YouTube, Google Search Pages, some Google websites, and that?s it. Should also be noted that when I use YouTube the videos won?t play, just load the whole time meanwhile everything else on the page loads.

After this, I tried opening Discord and other applications such as Skype to see if they would work but they also couldn?t ?access? the internet.

Summary: My computer is connected to the Internet but no programs can ?access? or ?use? it it seems (including internet browsers, so can?t even search the web).

I have tried countless of ways to fix this but can?t find a solution. Any help?

Preferred Solution: Computer connected to internet but it cant “access” it.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Dear Techspot Forums,

I am having some serious problems with my computer that I'm hoping you can assist me with. My computer is currently connected to my wireless Linksys 3000 device and everything is working properly. My laptop, that I'm typing this forum on now, is working great and always connects when I turn it on. My computer however, does not connect.

The computer shows that it is connected to my Linksys device, but upon clicking on the internet button it says "webpage can not be displayed" The bottom right hand corner of my screen shows "limited connectivity" with a small yellow triangle. This icon has shown in the past, but I've still been able to connect with it.

I'm not sure what to do, I've done everything from repairing, running full system Norton scans, to downloading a winsock repairer from a flashdrive, and trying that on the computer. When I run the winsock and click "fix" it says "registry import information not found". Because I cannot connect, norton security is out of date, and I cannot conduct buisness on it. Any information would be most helpful!

A:Computer is connected to Internet but Internet doesn't connect

Remove Norton completely if you can. Download a program like Malwarebytes and a temp file cleaner like this:
http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/files/file/187-tfc-temp-file-cleaner-by-oldtimer/

Run these programs, restart when you are told and try connecting to the Internet once more. I suggest that you try Microsoft Security Essentials before you revert to Norton

A:computer is connected to internet but can't access internet

Your Default Gateway is your Router. Unplug the power plug to the Modem and the Router. Plug the power into just the Modem (unless you have a modem/router combo) When all the lights come up, plug in the power to the Router (unless combo of course)
Now Go to Start/Run and type inetcpl.cpl and press enter/Connections/LAN Settings. Make sure all the boxes are unchecked. Now go to Start/Run and type ncpa.cpl and press enter. Right click the Local Area connection/Properties scroll down to Internet Protocol (TCP-IP)/Properties. Make sure Obtain an IP Address and DNS Server Address Automatically are both checked. Now go to Start/Run and type CMD and press enter. IN the Command Prompt type ipconfig /release and press enter. the IP Address changes to 0.0.0.0 Now type ipconfig /flushdns and press enter. Now type ipconfig /renew. Now type ipconfig /all. You should have a new IP address try it again. If you still cannot connect please include the text output of your ipconfig /all in your next post

I just built a new computer, and everything was put together and installed successfully. The only step remaining is to connect to the internet.

I'm running windows XP home, using a Gigabyte brand S-series motherboard, using the drivers supplied with the motherboard.

When I look at the network connections, they tell me that I am connected to my FIOS internet, and even though I have the same network settings as my dad's computer (which can connect), none of my internet programs can access the internet.

I've tried reinstalling my drivers, turning the router off and on, disconnecting and reconnecting the ethernet cable, and called my ISP, which tells me that the problem isn't with the network so they can't help me.

Please help!

My laptop is showing that it is not connected to the internet. I have the red 'x' over the internet icon in the bottom right corner and when you go into the network sharing center it shows a red 'x' on the connection between my computer and the internet. However, if you go into the internet options it says that I am connected to our home wireless router. I am able to use the internet like I was before this happened but it is much slower than before and my security program will not do any updates because of this. None of the other computers in the house are having this problem and the internet is moving at regular speed for them. How do I fix this? Any advice here would be helpful. I'm not really techno smart but I can follow directions really well.
I don't know if it is relevant or not but I have a Dell Inspiron 1440 that is running Windows Vista.

I have a slightly different problem I was hoping you could help me with. Here's a link to a printscreen of the problem.

Basically - even though I'm connected to the internet, my computer says I'm not. I'm able to browse the internet without any problems even though the icon in the right corner of my screen constantly taunts me by claiming I'm not connected. This is more annoying than anything else, but I would like to know how to change it. I have been unable to manage it myself.

Any ideas? Searching the internet tells me I'm not the only one with this problem, but I've yet to find a solution.

Hello giganemo, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might see if disconnecting and reconnecting the wireless connection may help toggle the correct icon. If not, then see if disabling and enabled your wireless adapter in "Network Connections" may.

Hope this helps,

I run on Windows 8. I noticed the computer kept refreshing to desktop page, may be every 10 seconds. When the internet cable was unplugged it was OK.  I have done the following things and led to believe the problem is at the hard drive.1. I changed the cable and nothing improved,  which led me to think the hardware problem at the cable plug-in area.2. I used a wireless adapter. it didn't help which led me to think the motherboard was faulty. 3. I bought a used computer running Windows 7. It runs OK with the cable plugged in.4. In order to run the programs and files in the original computer, I installed the hard drive from that computer as C:. As soon as the internet cable is plugged in, the computer started refreshing.5. With this hard drive installed as non C drive, I run the "housecall" from Trendmicro and found no virus or spam ware. 6. I came back to the original computer. It runs perfect as long the cable is not plugged in. Any suggestion? What driver or programs run when the cable is plugged in? Since I can't connect the computer to internet with this hard drive I can't run Windows update.

A:Computer keeps refreshing when the internet is connected

Does this problem only happen when you go online?

If it does, have you tried a different browser?

You need to be aware that the operating system recognizes identifiers belonging to the chips sets.  If you don't use the sysprep from the command prompt the operating system will recognize the identifiers belonging to the different motherboard.  This can and usually will have an adverse effect on the operating system.

If you run sysprep on the HHD/SSD with Windows 7 or 8.1 before using it with another motherboard you should be be able to boot from it without any complications. You want to remove all hardware identifiers from the HDD/SSD, this generalizes the drive.

Click on the Start orb, then type cmd in the Search box.

cmd will appear under Programs above the search box, right click on it and choose Run as administrator.

This will open the Elevated Command Prompt.

In the Elevated Command Prompt type in CD C:\Windows\System32\Sysprep, then
use the command: sysprep /generalize /oobe /shutdown.

Don't power the drive back on until it's in the other computer.

Note: You'll want to install the new motherboard chipset drivers for the new motherboard after moving the drive.

A:what do i do if my computer restarts when connected to the internet

Hi rechad and Welcome to TSF,

So all this happens only when you activate the Wireless card? Has this started happening recently? While it could be a software fault it could aswell be a hardware failure. You should scan the system for malware aswell.

I would advise you to firstly:
1. Try to restore the system to a previously known working restore point (Start > Search > rstrui > hit ENTER).

And if that doesn't cover it:
Start > Search > type "Cmd".
Rightclick Cmd.exe > Run as administrator.
Type "sfc /scannow" > ENTER.
If any faults are found , YES to repair.

If problem still persists, go into the Event log (Start > Search > eventvwr.msc > ENTER) and have a look around your Systems log, see if you find any faults (Red stop signs/yellow triangles) on any of the logs, that seems to be reoccuring around the Date/Time it last occured. If you're unsure, choose Action > Save log As, and attach it to your next post.

I already tried using mcafee and malwarebytes, but it did not fix the problem. The thing I am seeing right now is that malwarebytes is constantly having to block outbound connections from the following processes: notepad.exe, dllhost.exe, msiexec.exe, conhost.exe, explorer.exe. It seems that those processes wants to access malicious websites according to malwarebytes. Are those processes infected, I am guessing that is the reason for high CPU when connected to the internet. I am not sure where to go from there.

I have an old computer that is currently windows xp sp3.
It works perfectly fine, up untill i connect to the internet. I have wireless internet and 3 computers, 1 laptop, and an xbox that connect to it. Its only 1 of my computers that have this problem, and they are all XP SP3. If i start my computer with the antenne in it, not even 5 seconds when its turned on, it reboots. When i turn it on W/O the antenne, it stays on and has the message saying that it just recovered from a failure or something that like. But it doesnt turn off, when I connect the antenne, it reboots itself..
Ok, i unchecked reboot when system failure, and the BSOD popped out and said
"
*** stop: 0x000000d1 (0x002135b5, 0x0000000z, 0x00000000, 0xf764dcd9)
*** rt2500.sys -address f764dcd9 base f7637000, datestamp 42676c99
"
Then when i turned it on, it said that the system recovered from serious error.

A:Computer Restarts when connected to the internet.

If the issue is only occurring when you have the wireless antenna installed then it could potentially be a driver issue since the blue screen is making reference to the "rt2500.sys" file. Have you tried finding an updated driver file for it, installing it to the system, and then attempting to see if the system will recognize the device with the new driver?

When using any ISP browsing the internet with IE6, AOL's web browser or Netscape 6, the comp will freeze completely. CTRL+ALT+DEL doesn't even work. The coursor still moves though. All I can do is press the shutdown button. It occurs more frequently using IE but it still happens almost everytime I'm connected no matter what browser I use.

I've ran tons of virus scans using Norton AntiVirus2003. I've also ran spyware scans with Ad-Aware 6 build 162. I'm not finding any problems there.

Hello everyone. Thank you for your time in reading this.

My girlfriend has recently had a problem with her computer in that the computer shows that it has
connectivity to the internet, but none of the applications can access the internet. She is able to
connect to other computers over LAN just fine and has no problems with that, it's just reaching
the internet that is the problem.

What has me stumped on this is how browsers are acting during this. With most network related issues
the browser will display some kind of error, either that the page cannot be displayed or something. But
for both Firefox and Internet Explorer you can type in any URL(ie; www.Google.com) and when you try

A:Computer Is Connected, But No Access To Internet

If you can see other computers on the LAN, but not get to the internet, then the computer may not have a default gateway configured. Or has the wrong gateway configured.

Or, seeing as the computer had some malware, you may need to do a reset on Internet Explorer. Or install Firefox (if you download the install files on another computer and use a USB stick).

Hi there. My computer will freeze often when I am connected to the internet. I can't even ctrl, alt and delete.

Through reading other topics I ran a malwarebytes anti-malware scan and it said no files were infected. I've also just run a HijackThis check and it's come up with the log file which I believe it recommends showing to you fine people. It doesn't mean much to me unfortunately. Is there anything else I should be doing? Thanks a million in advance.

My ancient HP desktop connects to the network via wired connection. My laptop connects wirelessly (usually). Both have very strong signals from the router and the desktop connects to the internet just like always, but the laptop isn't getting the internet signal. The laptop is an Acer Aspire 5534 (Costco special) and the router is a Linksys Simultaneous Dual Band N-type. The only real significant thing that was done on the laptop was to install Adobe Shockwave Player with Norton Scan. I already have McAfee on the laptop tho, so I uninstalled the Norton. I'm going to do a system restore in a moment...any other suggestions would really be appreciated!

BTW, the laptop would occasionally seem to disconnect itself from the network and I would have to completely shut down the network (hard restart) and all computers to reset. This always worked before, but now it isn't. Like I said, I have excellent wireless connectivity, but the internet isn't there, just on the laptop. Even if I go wired with it!

A:Connected to the Network, but no internet...on one computer only.

I've narrowed it down to a freakin firewall issue with McAfee. When I turn the firewall off, I get access to the internet. I restored the firewall settings to default and everything seems "normal" again. But why would my firewall start to do this. It seems to randomly disconnect my laptop from the internet (not the network).

I have a desktop and a laptop that are connected to my router but can't connect to the internet. One of our other desktops is working great. Another had the same issue and I fixed it using the "netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt" command.

I've tried the following on the remaining computers:

netsh int ip reset c:/resetlog.txt
netsh winsock reset catalog
ipconfig /flushdns > Iponfig /release > Ipconfig /renew

The command prompt fixes are new to me, so I'm not sure what they do exactly but it fixed one computer, I just cant get it to work on the others. I've also switched between static and dynamic ip's using network properties.

I'm getting pretty frustrated.

A:Computer is connected to router but not internet

The Media disconnected on the ethernet probably means a defective NIC or cable.

Try a dynamic connection on the wireless.

To configure a dynamic IP address on your Windows Vista or 7 computer:

1. Click Start.
2. Select Network, then Network and Sharing Center, and click Manage network connections or Change adapter settings from the list of tasks.
3. Right click the connection of interest and click Properties.
4. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) from the list and click the Properties button.
5. Select Obtain an IP address automatically.
6. Select Obtain DNS Server address automatically.
7. Click OK.
8. Click Close.

Hi, I have a Windows vista laptop that has WLAN and I can usually connect to other wireless networks such as Linskys. My roommates and I recently got internet when we moved and they can connect to our internet wireless in their rooms while mine says I'm connected but when i go on the internet, it says internet explorer cannot display the webpage. I can get internet when I connect our netgear router cable in my computer. However when i take the cable out, it says I'm connected but I can't access the internet. I want to be able to access the internet in my room without having to connect to the cable.

I have diagnosed it and it hasn't fixed it. I did ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew using command prompt and nothing has fixed it.

CAN ANYONE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME??

Hey shadee,

Try this:

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Vista or Windows 7

Start, All Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following commands, each followed by the Enter key:

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults: netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults: netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

I'll start from the beginning:

Our old computer was having some problems a few months ago with spyware. It's XP Pro SP1, and we didn't have an up-to-date anti-virus program installed, we had McAfee, but the subscription ran out and we were too lazy to do anything about it, so we were sitting ducks.

Following the instructions from a different computer help site, I ran Ewido, Spy-bot and Adaware to help with the spyware problem. Turns out it was alfacleaner. I used SmitFraudFix to get rid of the problem, but over time it showed signs of coming back.

Two weeks ago the old computer started acting bizarre. After 30 mins online the taskbar looked like it was switching itself into safe mode (or something that looked like safe mode, or Windows98, whatever it was doing it wasn't XP-ified), it would then switch back into the normal XP environment and the internet connection was locked -- we have dialup, if you picked up the phone you could still hear that it was online. We couldn't open the internet dialogue thingie and no pages in FF or IE would load. The only way to fix that problem was to restart the computer.

I went back to the other help forum, and was recommended to install AVG, which I did. It could a virus, I got the removal tool from their website and but the problem continued. AVG, Ewido, Spy-bot and Adware would only come back with minor spyware on the computer, no viruses. My parents got sick of that computer and decided to buy a new one just... Read more

I'm trying to figure out what is wrong with a friend's computer. The tech support guys at school are unable to figure out what is wrong with it or even get close. Tech support recently reformatted her computer so it is quite clean however it has one problem.

The problem is that whenever the computer is started up (windows 2000) the cpu useage jumps from 1% to 35% every few seconds, slowing it down erratically. I found the problem to be something related to her internet connection. The computer needs to be connected to the internet in order to run smoothly. If the computer is connected to the internet it does not have any trouble running and it is only when the computer is disconnected that it has trouble running.

Thanks, if there is any information you need about the computer I can provide it. Below is the Hijack log when connected to the internet. I'll post the another log in a new post without the internet connection. Look below

Check the Windows Event Viewer and see if Windows is reporting any errors.

I assume that since you have to "connect to the internet" you are using dial-up? Or just when you have a browser window open?

I hadn't had internet in a while, and when I finally did get it I ran into this problem. At first I didn't know what was wrong, because my computer would restart itself within 1-2 minutes repeatedly. After retracing my steps I unplugged my wired internet and the computer ran just fine. But even after startup, once I plugged in the cable again it would restart. After trying some things, I heard to run combofix. After transferring the file from a library computer, I ran the app, and everything worked. But whenever I restart my computer, it resets itself unless I unplug my cable and run combofix again, which fixes the issue until I turn of or reset my computer. This Is a real pain and I cant figure out what could be the problem.I thought this had to be a hidden virus or something.

First of all, I have a sbc dsl modem. The problem is definitely with the computer because: I am using my other computer, and it works fine with the same internet connection. However, when I connect it to my desktop computer, it doesn't work. The connection is alright, with packets coming in and going out, but when I open all three of my web browsers: internet explorer, mozilla firefox, netscape, and safari, none of them work. I am on a Sony PCV-RS310 computer and the ping comes back saying that all four packets were lost. I first thought this might have been a virus or something blocking a port, but it seems impossible that something like that could happen. I frequently use torrent programs, like bittorent and uTorrent. I first thought i might have downloaded some sort of virus, but after scanning- with databases updated on this computer, with 5 different antivirus programs, I gave up. Any idea what is happenning is appreciated. Thanks in advance. (((((((

A:Internet connected and works on other computer, but not on this one

The Router is what? Wired or Wireless? If either one who makes it? How old is it? Remember that BT traffic packets can take it's toll on a router. You'll need to get a heavy duty router otherwise you'll start to get packet loss as you're getting now.

If you're just connecting with a 4100 Modem then I would say replace that modem. So which SBC DSL Modem to you have?

Hello,
I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 running Windows XP service pack 3.
My computer, as of late, is struggling with the internet. I can boot the machine up and open either Chrome or Firefox and it will launch a browser that may or may not work for a few minutes. Even if it does, it will eventually stop responding and I will have to close the browser. At this point trying to launch either program does nothing although the machine shows it is running the processes. Even if I end the processes I cannot relaunch until I restart the machine. It also cannot connect see the internet if I launch in safety mode with networking.
The only other remarkable symptom is that probably 70% of the time the computer shows it is running at 100%. The culprit seems to be svchost.exe. It is the only svchost file running. I have debugged, debugged, debugged using rkill and multiple programs. Rkill shows some missing files, I dont know if thats is normal or not. After doing some research I tried winsockxpfix and that did not help my issue.
Ill attach a photo of the rkill log, since I am posting this from my phone.
Thanks in advance,
Sarah
