I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am attempting to upgrade my L570 with the subject M.2 drive.  I have the tray and cable necessary.  When I put it all together, no hard drive shows up in the computer.  Tech support won't help since the 960 EVO isn't on the Lenovo parts list.  The support agent didn't say they were incompatible, but he did intimate that.  Any ideas on how to make this work?

Apologies if something similar has been posted, I just can't find the answer. We have a 5th Generation Thinkpad X1 Carbon connected to a Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 dock. At the moment the display is mirrored using a VGA cable to connect to the dock. What we would like instead is to connect the dock to 2 external monitors with separate content on each monitor and the laptop display blank. I just can't figure out if this is possible, what might be needed, and how! Any help greatly appreciated.

Can I upgrade my Intel chipset to 4th generation for my Dell OptiPlex 780? I bought the machine as a refurbished unit which was updated to Windows 10. My goal is to be able to create Minecraft servers which I can't do with my current chipset. Intel said that they aren't creating the necessary drivers.

A:Intel 4th generation chipset - Is it compatible with OptiPlex 780?

There is no such thing as CHIPSET upgrade on any machine any vendor.
You cant put a core I3 I5 I7 chip into a 780.
Minecraft requires JAVA and a GPU  Radeon HD5450 is minimum requirement.
Minecraft on a 780 with linux or windows 7 or 8 or 10 works fine when you have a radeon 5450 minimum.
Radeon HD5xxx series is legacy so it requires legacy amd driver,

ASUS Silent Radeon  EAH 6450 is what i use.

You can only use Single slot low profile cards.

The EAH 6450 fits in all sizes except USFF because USFF has no slots.

Manufacturer Part# : EAH6450 SILENT/DI/1GD3  Dell Part# : A4996444

I have a Toshiba Portege into which I installed a Samsung 840 EVO MZ-MTE1T0BW 1TB mSATA SSD, and it has been running fine for months. It replaced a similar unbranded 128GB SSD. On order I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon with a 128GB SSD. Is there any reason I can't re-image the 1TB drive from the Toshiba and install it in the Lenovo?

Good day and welcome to the community.
Congrats on choosing a Carbon3.

The SSD in the machine is an m.2 2280 format card. The MZ-MTE1T0BW SSD you have is mSATA format, so it won't slot, nor will it fit width/length-wise.

Hi,  I would like to add a WWAN cart to my thinkpad. I first ordered a Sierra EM7455 with a dedicated antenna. Installation worked fine, but when I restarted the ocmputer I got a "1802 unauthorized network card ...1199/9078" Antenna link https://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/0.html?spm=a2g0s.9042647.0.0.tZJXFc&orderId=90686426946259&produ... So I figured out that the Bios has a whitelist for network cards. So my question is simple:- can I override this BIOS error ? => I guess the answer is no (or at least not simply)- which card should I buy ? I found this card https://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/0.html?spm=a2g0s.9042647.6.2.JGVfAL&orderId=91257876926259&produ... This card seems to be listed herehttps://pcsupport.lenovo.com/fr/fr/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-... Thsnk you for your help vincent

When I ordered my Dell XPS 13 back in May of this year, I ordered it with a 256 GB drive knowing I'd eventually upgrade to a 512 GB drive once the new NVMe m2 drives were out. I didn't fully grasp the variations in m2 and when I pre-ordered the 512 GB Samsung 950 PRO NVMe I expected to pop it in and go. No such luck. I should have known they wouldn't make it that easy... :-(
The drive is physically compatible of course, but has the "M" key edge connector while the drive I pulled out has the "B&M" edge key connector. I'm running the A05 BIOS on the Dell, but it can't see the 950 PRO drive a the BIOS level. The on-board testing tool reports "no hard drive". So this seems like a BIOS issue.
Anyone have any ideas? Is this a matter of Dell supporting it with a new BIOS update? Or will it never work because the XPS 13 isn't compatible with this generation of M2 drivers? Looks like I need to return this either way, but if Dell eventually supports it, I may buy it again.
If it will never work, any suggestions on a 512 GB drive that will work? Would the Samsung XP941 or XP951 work? Any idea on the difference between the two (the XP951 is $50+ more).
UPDATE: This drive is not compatible with the Dell XPS 13, and likely never will be due to power consumption (5-7 watts). You simply wouldn't want a storage device that power-hungry in your laptop. The Samsung SM951 512 GB is the best drive at the moment.

A:Dell XPS 13 2015 and Samsung 950 PRO m2 Upgrade

FYI, I was able to get the 950 Pro NVMe recognized to install windows 10 on it by simply turning on Legacy boot options.  Once that was turned on my windows install USB saw it as installable media.  After installing the drive had an EFI boot sector so I was able to turn off legacy boot.

In this discussion, Amy from Lenovo recommends that we purchase Lenovo SSDs if we want thermal management: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/Can-I-add-a-Samsung-950-Pro-NVMe-SSD-to-... The link no longer directs us to a particular model. So I perform a search on the Lenovo site and see (among others) this model: ThinkPad 256GB SAMSUNG PCIe NVME TLC OPAL M.2 SSD http://www3.lenovo.com/us/en/accessories-and-monitors/memory-and-storage/storage/HDD-BO-ThinkPad-M-2... What is this? A Samsung SSD rebranded as a Lenovo SSD? Would I gain in compatibility with such a drive or not, and specifically regarding thermal management? Also, is there a misprint below concerning the read speed? "ThinkPad 256GB SAMSUNG PCIe NVME TLC OPAL M.2 SSD supporting PCIe 3.0 interface standard up to 4 lanes shows much faster performance than previous SATA SSDs. It's sequential performance is up to 300MB/s for read operation and 1700MB/s for write operation by 4 lanes. Test-Prove 100% Compatible with ThinkPad machines. " That has to be 3000MB/S, right?

A:Thinkpad-Samsung or Lenovo-Samsung NVMe SSD? What is this?

My impression is that even Lenovo themselves does not have a clue.

I hope someone can help fix this issue I have all the family ready to string me up. The laptop will not start. I've tried most things but to no avail. Thanks in advance. When the power on button is pressed the green light comes on, the keyboard backlights briefly flash, the fan spins up for brief instant, if I listen very closely with the back cover off I can hear the speakers hiss with noise, and (if I have reset the machine) 2 tiny red LEDs on the F1 and F4 keys flash once. The power light remains green but then nothing happens. If I turn it of I get a sharp pop sound from the speaker. When I plug in the AC adapter the power light flashes 3 times. Same results with or without power adapter. This all came about after I had gone against my mantra of 'if it ain't broke - don't "fix" it'. This review is an analysis of the 14? second generation ThinkPad X1 Yoga.  The target audience is the mobile business professional who demands high performance coupled with usage flexibility, portability and long battery life.  Being a ThinkPad, it has the traditional, clean, black exterior look that has long been associated with ThinkPads.  Being a Yoga, the hinges are designed to allow 360░ rotation.

The machine being reviewed is based on an Intel i7-7600U seventh-generation Kaby Lake 2.8 gHz CPU and comes with 8 GB of LPDDR3 memory.  It has a bright 14? USB3 ports and two Thunderbolt 3 ports, one of which doubles as the power input connector.   There was also an audio combo jack and an HDMI port.   In addition, there is also a port that accepts an included dongle to provide native RJ-45 (Ethernet) support.  Networking is handled by an Intel Tri-band Wireless-AC 18265 adapter that combines WiGig (801.11 AD), WiFi 2 x 2 AC and Bluetooth« 4.2.  The machine came loaded with Windows 10 Professional.   For storage, the computer has a fast Samsung NVMe MZVPW256HEGL-000L7 256GB SSD.  The machine also has a front camera and a fingerprint reader.  On the rear, there is a slot for an SD card, and one for a SIM ca... The Samsung Magician (latest v4.9.6) software does not detect the drives as Samsung Brand SSDs and therefore OS Optimization is unavailable (the only option is to run a benchmark). Samsung Magician supports this SSD as I can see users in other forums using the software on their systems (not necessarily Lenovo). They always jump to sending me a box and telling me it'll take 2 weeks to fix... which is a major problem since I work remotely and have no other PC. Also any devices I had connected to Thunderbolt ports were turning on and off. I'm not sure if the issue was related.

Hi! If you have a watt meter such as the one below, when you put your Thinkpad X1 Carbon 2018/6:th gen under maximum load for long, what power consumption does it actually show? Personally I'm asking this because I'm pondering buying an Akitio Node Pro Thunderbolt 3 enclosure, which would work as laptop charger through the USBC-Thunderbolt cable's "Power Delivery" function, however it gives 60W while the X1 6:th gen comes with a 65W charger. I wonder if the 60W charger would work in the real world. Things you can do to maximize load on your laptop: * put your laptop on maximum load max   * CPU like calculating a zillion decimals of pi,   * read disk all the time like some disk benchmarking program,  * run something on the laptop's built-in display too like loop a video, and * plug in one or two 2.5" harddrives to the USB plugs and run disk benchmarking on it/them too. I think this the real world max watt consumption is very interesting for the world to know, also if you want to know how much you are really pay for your laptop being powered on, this is central for you to test. (I'm making a separate thread where I ask the same thing for Yoga 3:rd gen) Thank you and most grateful for any followup!  https://www.amazon.com/TS-836A-Energy-Voltage-Electricity-Monitor/dp/B00E945SJG

(I'm making a separate thread where I ask the same thing for X1 6:th gen) Thank you and most grateful for any followup!  https://www.amazon.com/TS-836A-Energy-Voltage-Electricity-Monitor/dp/B00E945SJG

Hello everybody, do you know if the internal HDD/SSD provided with the new Thinkpad Yoga 12 2015 can be replaced by myself? And if this operation is possible, is it simple to proceed ?I used to replace HDD by SSD on my MacBook pro laptops, it is very simple.  As the internal HDD and SSD provided are not the best ones (the Thinkpad SSD are considered as to be slow), i want to replace the HDD/SSD by a Samsung 840 Pro. Thanks a lot for your reply

Hi,

The base spec and hardware maintenance manual should help with this.

Base Spec

(English) Hardware Maintenance Manual - ThinkPad Yoga 12

Please note that neither the 2.5 inch HDD/SSD or m.2 SSD are listed as self-service CRU (customer replaceable unit) or optional-service CRU so you may face warranty issues if you attempt this yourself.

Z.

Hello everyone, As proposed by my products update scan, I downloaded and installed the current Intel HD5500 graphic card driver. But it cannot be configured via the Intel graphic card control panel . The control panel doesn't show up (But its executable exists under C:\WINDOWS\system32\GfxUIEx.exe). I cannot run it from the start menu and it is missing from the context menu on the desktop. I tried reinstalling the driver, but couldn't get it to work. So, my question is: where can I get the old graphic card drivers for my laptop, since they don't show up on the download page anymore? Cheers,Patrick

Hello!I want to update my BIOS. My OS is Red Hat Enterprise Linux. I downloaded the bootable CD ISO file from:https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/bg/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-...Then checked the checksum, it is fine.I used 2 methods with no success:USB Image Writer, the method explained here (which worked for my ThinkPad T430, but not for X1 Carbon 4 Ge:neration) https://cloudnull.io/2017/07/x1-bios-update-under-linux/ When I boot from the USB drive, a black screen appears and then I am kicked back to the boot device selection menu. Please, check if the bootable ISO file is actually bootable.
