I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Can I upgrade my Intel chipset to 4th generation for my Dell OptiPlex 780? I bought the machine as a refurbished unit which was updated to Windows 10. My goal is to be able to create Minecraft servers which I can't do with my current chipset. Intel said that they aren't creating the necessary drivers.

A:Intel 4th generation chipset - Is it compatible with OptiPlex 780?

There is no such thing as CHIPSET upgrade on any machine any vendor.
You cant put a core I3 I5 I7 chip into a 780.
Minecraft requires JAVA and a GPU  Radeon HD5450 is minimum requirement.
Minecraft on a 780 with linux or windows 7 or 8 or 10 works fine when you have a radeon 5450 minimum.
Radeon HD5xxx series is legacy so it requires legacy amd driver,

ASUS Silent Radeon  EAH 6450 is what i use.

You can only use Single slot low profile cards.

The EAH 6450 fits in all sizes except USFF because USFF has no slots.

Manufacturer Part# : EAH6450 SILENT/DI/1GD3  Dell Part# : A4996444

In this discussion, Amy from Lenovo recommends that we purchase Lenovo SSDs if we want thermal management: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/Can-I-add-a-Samsung-950-Pro-NVMe-SSD-to-... The link no longer directs us to a particular model. So I perform a search on the Lenovo site and see (among others) this model: ThinkPad 256GB SAMSUNG PCIe NVME TLC OPAL M.2 SSD http://www3.lenovo.com/us/en/accessories-and-monitors/memory-and-storage/storage/HDD-BO-ThinkPad-M-2... What is this? A Samsung SSD rebranded as a Lenovo SSD? Would I gain in compatibility with such a drive or not, and specifically regarding thermal management? Also, is there a misprint below concerning the read speed? "ThinkPad 256GB SAMSUNG PCIe NVME TLC OPAL M.2 SSD supporting PCIe 3.0 interface standard up to 4 lanes shows much faster performance than previous SATA SSDs. It's sequential performance is up to 300MB/s for read operation and 1700MB/s for write operation by 4 lanes. Test-Prove 100% Compatible with ThinkPad machines. " That has to be 3000MB/S, right?

A:Thinkpad-Samsung or Lenovo-Samsung NVMe SSD? What is this?

My impression is that even Lenovo themselves does not have a clue.

I first noticed how loud the down arrow key was versus the other arrow keys. Are these normal differences that you all are experiencing or are these issues I should try to warranty? Like I said, I'm sure I'm coming off as petty but it's a brand new laptop for me and one I spent quite a bit of money on so I want to make sure everything's okay. Thanks for the feedback!

The SSD in the machine is an m.2 2280 format card. The MZ-MTE1T0BW SSD you have is mSATA format, so it won't slot, nor will it fit width/length-wise.

When I ordered my Dell XPS 13 back in May of this year, I ordered it with a 256 GB drive knowing I'd eventually upgrade to a 512 GB drive once the new NVMe m2 drives were out. I didn't fully grasp the variations in m2 and when I pre-ordered the 512 GB Samsung 950 PRO NVMe I expected to pop it in and go. No such luck. I should have known they wouldn't make it that easy... :-(
The drive is physically compatible of course, but has the "M" key edge connector while the drive I pulled out has the "B&M" edge key connector. I'm running the A05 BIOS on the Dell, but it can't see the 950 PRO drive a the BIOS level. The on-board testing tool reports "no hard drive". So this seems like a BIOS issue.
Anyone have any ideas? Is this a matter of Dell supporting it with a new BIOS update? Or will it never work because the XPS 13 isn't compatible with this generation of M2 drivers? Looks like I need to return this either way, but if Dell eventually supports it, I may buy it again.
If it will never work, any suggestions on a 512 GB drive that will work? Would the Samsung XP941 or XP951 work? Any idea on the difference between the two (the XP951 is $50+ more).
UPDATE: This drive is not compatible with the Dell XPS 13, and likely never will be due to power consumption (5-7 watts). You simply wouldn't want a storage device that power-hungry in your laptop. The Samsung SM951 512 GB is the best drive at the moment.

A:Dell XPS 13 2015 and Samsung 950 PRO m2 Upgrade

FYI, I was able to get the 950 Pro NVMe recognized to install windows 10 on it by simply turning on Legacy boot options.  Once that was turned on my windows install USB saw it as installable media.  After installing the drive had an EFI boot sector so I was able to turn off legacy boot.

I have two Samsung NVMe 950 Pro (MZVKV512) that came preinstalled in a Lenovo ThinkPad P50 running Windows 10 x64. The Samsung Magician (latest v4.9.6) software does not detect the drives as Samsung Brand SSDs and therefore OS Optimization is unavailable (the only option is to run a benchmark). Samsung Magician supports this SSD as I can see users in other forums using the software on their systems (not necessarily Lenovo). I have also installed the Samsung NVMe Controller driver and this is showing in Device Manager. There are no system updates available and UEFI BIOS is up to date (version from the 4th May). Any ideas?

Hi,

The base spec and hardware maintenance manual should help with this.

(English) Hardware Maintenance Manual - ThinkPad Yoga 12

Please note that neither the 2.5 inch HDD/SSD or m.2 SSD are listed as self-service CRU (customer replaceable unit) or optional-service CRU so you may face warranty issues if you attempt this yourself.

All,

With the new year, we start a fresh discussion for members to share their order and fulfillment experiences.

We are retiring the 2014 thread.   Anyone having an active discussion there can find it here.

The 2013 thread  can be found here .

Here are some common points of frequent discussion:

How to get a system fast: Buy an in-stock standard configuration from Lenovo or a Lenovo Partner in your area. Customized systems take longer.
Avoid Credit Holds - ensure that BOTH your bill to and ship to addresses are listed with your CC bank before ordering
Lenovo will not bill your card until order ships - an authorization charge hold to check for available balance may show up when order is first placed.
Estimated ship dates are based on default lead time and can vary from what was displayed on website.
In the US and Canada, Lenovo utilizes UPS for new product shipments
Orders may ship before the Estimated Ship Date
Orders may enter through Alaska and pass through Louisville, KY before traveling on to final address
Cancellation requests may take up to 2 days to process
Requests to change configuration or other aspects of the order may require the order to be rebooked.
Lenovo does not accept payment via international credit cards, except AMEX.

We hope you enjoy your new ThinkPad system when it arrives!

Got mine yesterday. Its the Core i5 5300, 8GB/256SSD with the QHD display. Took about 2 weeks from the date of order. What a great machine. It fixes the big problem of the first X1 Carbon (crappy TN display) and the annoying gimmick of generation 2 (adaptive keyboard) and what I have now is pretty much the perfect laptop. The display could be a touch brighter for me, but it is sharp and glorious. I am extremely pleased.

(the USB leads from microscope cameras seem ridiculously short). My budget is about $A600. many thanks,

Hello!

I recently bought a samsung portable hard drive from the M3 series with a 1TB storage capacity.

My computer currently runs on Windows 8.1, x64, 4GB RAM and a 3Ghz processor

When trying to install "Samsung drive manager" or any of the other software that came with the hard drive - I receive the following error message "This runs on Windows XP/Vista, Windows 7, please check your OS".

I have tried to install the "Samsung drive manager" from the Seagate website, thinking that it might be compatible but I receive the same error message.
According to the Windows compatibility website and Samsung/Seagate, the M3 hard drive is compatible with Windows 8 (Note, I have Win 8.1, but is there really that much of a difference?) I ran the software bundle on my old laptop (Windows 7) and it worked fine, so that excludes any issues with the actual hardware
Anyone with a similar problem or solution?

I hate my present computer and want to get a laptop that will have good processing for years to come.

I don't know anything about the significance of which Intel generation. Is 4rth generation necessarily better than 3rd generation?

Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2002
32-bit
Service Pack 3

Dell DIMENSION DIM2400
Intel(R)
Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.66GHz
x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 9
2.05 GB of RAM
Graphics Card: Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV
Graphics Controller, 64 Mb
Hard Drive Size 114.4GB
Free Space was 35.8GB; now under 20GB because after backing up My Documents on Google Drive, Google Drive has duplicated the whole darn thing on my hard drive
Motherboard: Dell Computer Corp., 0G1548
Antivirus : Webroot Internet Security

A:How important is 3rd generation vs. 4rth generation Intel?

conceptualclarit said:

Not surprising, that is an ancient computer that should have been retired years ago.

4th generation processors(Haswell) are the current and newest models, and they do offer slight power improvements over 3rd gen models(Ivy Bridge) in laptops but both are very good series. Getting over years out of a computer probably isn't going happen with a laptop or any PC these days though. I'd just find a laptop that meets your needs and fits your budget and go from there; base it on screen size, CPU performance, memory, hard drive capacity, graphics card, brand, etc.

Hi Everyone. I purchased a Thinkpad P-50 with a i7-6700HQ, 16G RAM, 4K screen, NVIDIA QUADRO M1000M, WIN 10 Home, and a 500GB HDD. I want to install a Samsung 950 PRO SSD M.2 NVME with 512 GB to be the system/windows boot and keep the HDD for data. I allready purchased the 950 PRO and the M.2 tray to do this. This is what I know so far: 1) I have to install the 950 PRO with the tray inside the P-50, 2) I have to install the Samsung controller driver, 3) I have (or can) to clone the HDD content onto the 950 PRO using the Macrium Reflect Free software, 4) Set the BIOS to boot from 950 PRO, and that's it....I know that can always make a clean install of the Windows 10 if something gets wrong. I would like to know if you guys think that this is a right procedure?  Can I just clone the entire HDD to the 950 PRO?  Am I forgetting something? Thank you very much!

I have P50 with Samsung 950 Pro 512G installed. After upgrade BIOS to version 1.28, it seems can set NVMe SSD disk password, But, after set disk password, it does not pop up to input the password to unlock the disk drive, which means I can not boot P50 from the disk now!!! I can not find the setting option to disable the disk password in BIOS. Anyone has any idea what to do now? it seems the OEM version SM951/PM951 works fine, I can set and remove the disk password in BIOS.

A:HELP!!! ThinkPad P50, Samsung 950 Pro 512G, how to...

Babyfat,

Think Engineering believes the most likely cause of the password issue you are experiencing may be User Selected RAID.

The User Selectable RAID feature made available in BIOS v1.28 does not support HDD passwords within RAID configuration.

To resolve this issue, unconfigure User Selectable RAID once (Warning: this will erase the Windows configuration and all user data), then unset the HDD Password for NVMe storage, then reconfigure user RAID.

Thank you,

I'm living in South Korea and using Thinkpad X1 Carbon (3rd Gen).I'm considering upgrading to 256gb SSD as my current 128gb one is almost filled up to the limit. There are a number of products from many different companies with a wide range of prices.  Could you let me know which specifications that I have to look at in choosing a new SSD compatible with my X1?  I would greatly appreciate if any expert is able to tell me about that.Thank you!  C.K.

Hi everybody,I know that this is not the right place for this question but a proper section for the newest Thinkpad 13 does not exist already.I would like to know if the M.2 Sata3 disk within the Thinkpad can be upgraded with a PCIE one. The slot is the same but it is necessary to assess if the motherboard does support it.Does anybody know it? Does anybody know the name or the code of the motherboard in order to search it on my own?Thank you very much for your time

A:Thinkpad 13 - SSD M.2 is PCIE compatible?

Good day.

Based on what's listed in the FRU parts listing: https://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/tp13_frubom_20160322.pdf it would appear that only SATA6 m.2 SSDs are configured in the this model. I recall no mention at CES of PCIe capabilty.

Regards.
