windows 7 default settings

Q: windows 7 default settings

Hello does anyone know where you can get a pdf of all the default settings for windows 7 home premium SP1.

Preferred Solution: windows 7 default settings

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I bought two new computers today for my business, both had the same hardware and software with windows 8 installed. I noticed that one of them they have some toolbars on the taskbar that the other one doesnt have, on one of the pc's there is an address bar labeled "Address"
The other PC didn't come with it activated by default, just wondering if this is normal. both these computers are brand new and identical. Maybe someone fooled around with it before sending it to me

A:Does windows 8 have default settings?

If they are truly identical, maybe someone turned one of them on at one point (and didn't turn the other one on).
Most computers are sold with tamper-proof tape holding the box closed - did yours have this?

In most cases, identical computers will have identical software.
The exception here is if the OEM has changed things during manufacture and is using a different image.

So a week or two I turned off windows update when reinstalling nvidia drivers. Im sure I put it back to normal, but what exactly are the deafult settings? Today I had a notification saying windows will install updates as scheduled, which I havent really seen before, so im guessing I may have miscondigured the settings.

A:what are the default windows update settings

Go to Start Menu and type = Update = Near the top you will see = Windows Update = Click on that and it takes you to where you can make changes. Click on = Change Settings =. It should be = Install Updates Automatically = and there are four boxes at the bottom. I have the first three checked. The one on the bottom is not necessary.

This morning I was using my computer and all was normal and I shut it down as I always do. Tonight I turned it on and when I logged in instead of saying the welcome message it said "preparing desktop" and after that I got to my desktop and my icons were gone, my background image was from factory settings and my softwares restored to default settings.
System Restore is off since the first day so no luck with that.

I got a new laptop (Pavilion 17) and first time using windows 10.

Problem 1 - I originally had to turn on scrolling for the click pad which was yesterday. Now today scrolling was turned off and I had to turn it back on again. Stopped using computer last night while it was copying files over (via network). Computer was left open and running.

Problem 2 - This morning the network was completely disconnected and I had to go in and 'join the network' again. I did have to 2 this 3 times yesterday while I was using the computer as well.

Problem 3 - This morning all my windows had been closed? Explorer windows that were being used to copy and firefox also.

Any help on these issue would be greatly appreciated. I have read a lot on how everyone hates windows 10 and am considering going back to windows 7 but sooner or later that will not be a viable option.

URGENT HELP, Please! Earlier today, I tried to open an exe file in my downloads. It was for a printable coupon. When I clicked on 'open', I was prompted to choose a programme in which to open this file. Windows recommended 'Media Player' ...? Foolishly, I clicked on this and, ever since then, every programme on my computer opens as Media Player! Even the icons in my task bar show as Media Player! I cannot imagine which programme was used to open this type of exe file previously. Nothing listed appears to be the right one. I have asked all over the internet, phoned my ISP, no one can help. I've even tried a couple of fixes on here but I don't really know what went wrong or exactly what I need to restore. PLEASE, can anyone help? I cannot even switch off my laptop because I'll never get back onto the internet - which now opens as Media Player!!!

A:How do I restore my default settings in Windows 7?

Hello Mozer, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you like, you can download and merge the .reg file for the listed exe option in the tutorial below to restore the default associations for .exe files.

Default File Type Associations - Restore

If that doesn't help, then you could do a system restore at boot using a restore point dated before you made this change to undo it.

On two of our user accounts the screens have gone back to a Dell default screen (custom background is gone) and half of the desktop icons are gone. Extremely slow. Everything is still there when I go to Windows Explorer and look for it. Started getting message that I have less than 15% hard drive space left and when I look it is less than 5%. Computer is making funny noises like the fan or cabinet is loose. Also get things like "welcome to Dell setup screen" but unit is 3 years old so it has somehow gone backwards on 2 of the logins.
My question is does this sound like a virus or a hard drive crashing?

hi, I had Windows 10 on pm PC and I tried to reset it to default settings since it was slow, with the option of deleting every file since I had backup elswhere, from Options it didn't work so tried Shift and restart. it seemed to work but at 65% it said it had incounterd a problem and that it had to restart. So I did and it encounterd the very same problem at 65%. So I turend it off with the intent of trying again after it had restarted bu, when I turned it on it started an infinite loop of the HP logo. I tried all suggestions that I found on the HP Forum, disconnected battery+cable, tried resetting BIOS with f9 and saving with f10 but it does not seem to make andy difference. The only thing that I have found is that is sais that "your computer needs to be repaired" and gives me the error code 0xc0000225. I have looked into putting a cd to reset it but a) I don't have the cd b) the computer does NOT have a cd slot.

The computer is an HP tpn-I119 and it came with Windows 8 as default which I upgraded.

I re-installed windows last night, and after downloading and installing all 160+ necessary updates successfuly, changed the settings to 'never check for updates' because i want to be able to do that by myself, once a week or so. However every time i check the settings, it seems that it's somehow again set to 'install updates automatically' and i don't know what's causing it.

I have installed some new software, like office and security essentials, etc, which might be what's changing the settings since they also require updates (?) but i'm not sure that's the cause, or if it's some sort of error with Windows Update, etc.

It's not a major issue, but i have heard that some updates failing can cause issues with restarting, so i would very much like to find a solution to the problem.

Hi guys,

I think that the latest Windows 10 update might have reset my windows to the default (initial/standard) settings. I leave my PC ON over the night and when I woke up the PC seemed to have restarted over night (I say to myself it might have been that the power went off sometime over the night or that windows freaking 10 updates restarted my PC), and now I have all of the settings I did to windows back to their default state and all the file associations are reset back to default. Even the video player settings are reset to default.

What the **** just happen ?
EDIT: Great.... looks like all the software acts like they just have been freshly installed

Does it delete (or restore to default) my synced settings in Microsoft Account if i refresh my Windows 8? I need it because i will have problems (e.g. some metro applications are crashing) if i sync back from Microsoft Account to my PC. I can disable sync for all users from Group Policy and then switch to Microsoft Account. But i want change synced data, snyc my new PC settings to my account.

Will refreshing Windows help me or is there any way to delete Windows 8 sync data in Microsoft Account?

A:Will Refreshing Windows Restore Synced Settings to Their Default?

Unless you're signed into your Microsoft account, nothing will be lost though the syncing. You can change the sync data by simply changing whatever, it'll sync up. It doesn't save to your puter, it saves the data to a cloud.

I would say refreshing would help, but if you're having issues with metro app, I've had success running sfc /scannow in command prompt.

I have gone into settings in my Windows 10 and changed the default music player from groove music to windows media player. But when I click on music files, it automatically starts playing in Groove and NOT windows media player. I have restarted Windows several times with the same results.

A:Windows 10 will not obey the system settings for default programs

Hi, not sure if I can help but have you changed the media player for all types of music files? As well as selecting the default player you may have to deliberately change the player for the specific file type in "Choose default app for each file type". This option is found at the bottom of the default apps screen or by typing it into the search bar.

However when I go to set the Default programs on the Desktop I do not see Windows Live Mail as it is seen in the attachment on my laptop

How do I get Windows Live Mail to appear in there as an Option?

I'm trying to reset this computer back to its default security settings due to the fact it got owned by a virus.

I've gotten the trojan off the computer, but it set a bunch of policies on the computer and now I can't run/install quite a few programs. It would be much easier if I could just edit the group policies via gpedit.msc but since its XP Home it doesn't have it built in.

I went through all the places in the registry I thought the policies would have been set but I couldn't find anything.

What I'm trying to do now is reset the computer back to its default security settings by going to Run and typing MMC. When the console pops up, I click File, then Add/Remove Snap-in and click Add, and your supposed to add Security Configuration and Analysis, but I don't have that option to select from the menu. If I could add this in I should be able to just load the setup security.inf and reset the computer back to its default settings.

I've tried quite a few other things today but I am starting to run out of options. Any help would be awesome thanks!

Yeah, you may think this seems like just a normal message from oc'ing too much, but a problem-I haven't overclocked anything! It booted to that point, then my hard drive went mad clicking and crashed. This was after it being turned on and off to see if my graphics card was booting because I had no video, but it turned out I had just been downright stupid and plugged it into the onboard graphics. Anyone know what could have happened? Thanks

P.S. would the power drawing thing (molex on my case fan) need to have a seperate connector or just draw power from another device? Thanks.

A:'Previous overclock settings failed, default settings enabled'

If this happens just once then I wouldn't worry about it too much but the PSU or HDD could have something to do with it.

You can connect a molex connector fan to its own power connector or you can put it on an optical drive's connector for example, but it's ok to do either as they don't use much power.

Whenever I try to highlight part of a word along with another word with the cursor, Windows automatically highlights the entire word. I know this has been the default setting for a long time, but it's really getting on my nerves. If I start highlighting in the middle of a word, it's because I need to highlight starting in the middle of the word.

I know I can override this on the keyboard by using shift to highlight, but that's extremely inconvenient. Is there a way to disable it altogether? Maybe even in just individual programs (in particular, Word, at the moment)?

A:Solved: Windows default highlighting settings are annoying -- Can I change them?

I don't know of a Windows wide fix, but the following will work in Word 2007.

In Word, click the Office Button then click Word Options.
Select Advanced and uncheck the When selecting, automatically select entire word box.
Click OK.

There should be a similar option if you are using another version of Word.

Hi guys,

For some reason, my Windows 7 is only offering two types of Default Format for my USB Audio Device driver; Telephone quality and Tape Recorder quality.

Obviously both of these are shockingly bad. The thing that makes it worse is that I have just brought a brand new USB Desktop Microphone (Logitech USB Desktop Microphone) and windows is only offering the same settings as my old Webcam Microphone (And it sounds just as bad).

There is one thing I am confused about though: In this video; Logitech USB Desktop Microphone working on Windows 7 64bit - YouTube

The guy is using Windows 7 64-bit (same as me) BUT he has the option to increase the audio quality to DVD quality. It's the same exact Microphone, same windows and appears to be the same driver. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit so it should include all of the drivers, yes?

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Logitech doesn't offer any drivers and the guy in the video mysteriously has the same driver but has more options than me. The microphone is just as useless with loud echos and the like as my old Webcam Microphone.

Thanks for your answers

A:Windows 7 only offering low quality Default Format audio settings!

I couldn't find anything particular on forums.logitech.com other than one guy complaining about the quality of the playback sound. His post was in 2008 and nobody replied.

Standard trick to reset a driver is: go into Device Manger. Find the device. Right click on it and choose Remove. Reboot. When Windows comes up again it will reinstall the driver. It works a high percentage of the time. But there's no guarantee.

Might be a good idea to make a Restore Point first if you use them. Just to make sure you don't lose ground.

Hello all,

Just around two weeks ago or so, something that I assume I did has caused my PC to stop doing a number of things, such as ;
Recognizing recently used programs in the start menu
Allowing the locking and unlocking of the task bar
Saving the organization of files in the "Quick Launch" bar
Saving my decision to "Show Hidden Files and Folders" from the control panel.
Saving default file associations and other such settings
~~~~~(Such as Firefox as my default browser, Winamp and VLC for all media files (Windows Media Player also goes through setup every time it launched when I forget to use "open with."))
Making folders and other things through the Right Click > New menus in folders and on the desktop
And a wide assortment of other problems that I either can't think of or am unaware of at this time.
I remember having a similar issue once in the past, and I was able to resolve it through a system restore from a time before the issue began. This time however, the earliest restore available was already after the problem began.
I'm not really sure where to begin with this issue. Most of my own little research attempts have lead it to being a registry issue, but I have no real justification for that of my own. Many solutions have pointed to the policies directory for Explorer, but I have no items in there to look at.
So, I come to anyone here asking for some guidance in my issue. Thank you for any help you may provide; I truly ... Read more
I removed administrators permissions , that caused my pc to be unable to restore to previous restore point correctly. However, I was able to re-add the admin permission and everything now is fine.
Yet I need help here.
1 could anyone post screenshots of the default "default folder" security settings? I need to set it back to the default one even though now it works fine.
2 why the hell does that folder NOT HIDDEN? Are yours not hidden as well? Of course the option to hide all system file is checked on my pc. The only reason I messed with that folder is because I thought it was just a normal folder and not a system folder. Anyway to get it back to be invisible?
My boyfriends computer wouldn't start up so we had a tech (friend) look at it. He did somethings to the computer including replacing the video card.
Now all of the programs are in the start up menu and starting when the computer starts up, but thats not the problem. I had gone into the start up menu and unchecked all those I don't want to start up and also went into some of the programs themselves and set them up so they did NOT start up when computer was turned on.
Everytime the computer is turned on all those programs still start up and the tool bar at the bottom is loaded with program icons.
Why do the programs keep going back to the default settings and how can i fix this.
Hello Wan, and welcome to Vista Forums.
If this helps, this is what I found for this:
Valve Corporation uses .GCF games cache files both with its Steam computer game online content delivery platform (used for downloading computer games and content from the Internet), and with its Source 3D game engine (used to render realistic 3D graphics in their games). Valve Corporation also developed the game Half-life (along with its sequels) and the .GCF files is sometimes specifically associated with this game, although it is entirely possible that .GCF might be generated by any of Valve Corporation's games..
If you have Half-Life or another Valve brand game, then reinstalling the game to repair it without uninstalling it should fix the file association also.
Hope this helps,
