Preferred Solution: Tecra M2 BSOD.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,

I have my Tecra since 2007. I bought it with win XP. Until to the middle of 2011 OS works OK but later no.

When I turned up the computer, it starts and when the desktop was up and running, I just started with the touchpad or USB mouse on any item on the desktop but could not close it anymore. I could only using the keyboard and select logoff windows to n blue screen to log in again.

From that moment on I could turn on and off each application or component on the desktop.
The problem associated with Windows XP.

Unfortunately, after replacing the windows 7 32 bit with an earlier disk formatting problem remained.

Now, do not turn off your computer only toggle into hibernation. Each full shutdown ends the same, and I have to log out and log. Both the USB mouse and touch pad work the same way. It makes no difference whether the mouse is connected or not.

A:Tecra A7 PTA71E - Win XP BSOD

Hi

It looks like hardware problem.
I came to this conclusion because the new OS installation (Win 7) did not help to solve this problem.
So I think you are agree with me.

What hardware part might be affected?
Well, I think some common parts like HDD or RAM should be tested.
How?

Well, the HDD could be tested using some freeware tools like Drive Fitness Test.

The software RAM tests are not really helpful and I think notebook should be tested using new good working modules.
But of course it?s just an assumption from my side?

If you don?t want to spent money for new RAM modules only to check if its ok or not, visit an technician who could do that for you.

Hi

Do you get the BSOD during the BIOS update procedure?
Do you use the Toshiba preinstalled Windows OS? or did you install your own system?

If you installed your own system, then you should check that VAP is installed as well.

Furthermore I found this info regarding the BIOS update:

+Please close all applications before executing the update.+

+At the end of this process, the computer will be rebooted in order to update the EC.+
+While updating the EC, the screen may not be displayed and the power LED etc may blink.+

A friend entrusted me with her Toshiba Tecra A2 (1.75GHz, 489MB RAM, 40GB HD, XP Pro SP1), which was suffering from the usual middle-age-terminally-slow-operating system problems, caused by badly clogged registry etc...I ensured her that I wouldn't break it, or at least wouldn't make it any worse, and she would be ?30 better off than taking it to a tech shop for them to look at.

So I did the following, standard stuff, all of which worked fine.

*Disk clean-up (from C:\ properties)
*msconfig to remove unnecessary startup programs
*Full scan disk
*full defrag
*hooked up online to run liveupdate for Norton AV
*ran a standard, basic registry cleansing program
*whilst online ran several passes of windows update, with several reboots all without error.

It then took all afternoon installing SP2, and upon reboot, it went through the usual XP-style sky blue boot screens I expected post-SP installation i.e. "please wait.............................."

then seemed to crash, reboot, and displayed the blue screen of death, and this message:

BSOD appears due to serious system problems or hardware malfunction.

I think first of all you should recover the notebook to factory settings.
If this doesn’t help, the single parts must be checked.

I’m thinking about RAM memory modules.
This is an essential part and should be checked firstly.

Hi,

I own a Tecra R850 with the ATI HD 6450M, and every now and again it hangs and BSOD appears.
I've observed that mainly it happens when reproducing flash videos.
After checking System Events I've discovered it's a problem with the display card driver.

The event system says that may be a solution [here|http://wer.microsoft.com/Responses/Response.aspx/21682/en/5.1.2600.0.00000000.9.9?SGD=13feb1cd-4c8b-4c3a-aeee-ca4ca2c99729]

This webpage indicates that it is a bug in the driver and I must upgrade to the latest driver to solve de problem, and it provides a link to ATI webpage.

I've downloaded the drivers from ATI webpage and the installation program says that it is not compatible with Toshiba laptops.
I've checked Toshiba webpage and I already have the latest (and unique) driver for my display card.

As it appears on the webpage it's a driver bug, but Toshiba seems not to have released any update in the driver despite Ati has...

Any one can help?

Thanks,
Jose.

A:Tecra R850 - Display driver problem - BSOD

Hi Jose

Do you use original Toshiba preinstalled Windows or your own version?
Original display driver included in original recovery image is tested so you should not have some troubles with basic stuff like playing flash videos.

Since when have you noticed this issue? Can you give us one example when this happen?
Have you installed some updates?
To be honest I cannot imagine this issue is from the first day of usage.

And sometimes my system just freezes.

Has anybody help?

A:Tecra 9000 - BSOD after display driver installation

Hi

BSOD is a result of serious software issue or hardware malfunction.
You said this BSOD appears after installation of graphic card driver.

First of all; did you install the right graphic driver?
Secondly; did you install the Win XP patches?

The Toshiba driver page provides some Win XP drivers for this notebook model?
The drivers are placed in Archive area because this notebook is an oldie?
Should check it?

If the BSOD will still appear after Windows XP update and after right driver installation then a hardware issue could be the reason for this issue?
By hardware malfunction I mean the graphic chip issue or memory module issue?.

However, it looks like Stop 0x00000050 (0xF000FF54) Page fault in non-paged area.

Now I have no idea whay this has started. In case it was software I re-imaged the boot partition back to a stable image from 12 months ago but it makes no difference.

Its something to do with windows for sure. If I press Fn-F5 before the Windows has loaded there is no problem.

I'll try it in safe mode tomorrow to see if that helps but if anyone has any experience of something similar I'd love to hear it.

Thanks for any info

A:Tecra 8100 W2K: Fn+F5 produces Blue Screen of Death (BSOD)

The bad thing about those Blue Screens is, besides they are really annoying, that their error messages are just good for nothing. Never found out what Windows wants to tell me with this ;)

At the moment it is a bit hard to say what this has caused, but you could try to install new display drivers. They can be found at the Support & Downloads section.
So, safe mode seems to be a good idea for testing, because most of the drivers are not loaded, including the graphic card one's.

Perhaps this helps.

A:Can I use Tecra A10 OS disk to install OS on Tecra M10?

At first I must say that Toshiba recovery image is created for each notebook model separately and it is 100% created to work on specific model. Why?
Every notebook model has different hardware platform and all drivers, tools and utilities for certain model are part of recovery image. These recovery images are also tested.

Generally speaking if both models have identical hardware platform (hardware parts) it can be used.

A:Difference between Tecra A10 and Tecra M10

Of course the both notebooks are different.
There are different Tecra A10 models and there are different Tecra M10 units.

For example:
Tecra *A10-13B* supports an Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 2,26 GHz CPU and Intel GM45 chipset.

Tecra *A10-1D2* supports an Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 2.80Ghz CPU and Intel GM45 chipset

You can find details about different discontinued notebook models here:
http://www.toshiba.eu/discontinued-products/
Then you can compare all the hardware parts.

The notebook supports the SATA interface and you have to use an 2.5? SATA SSD drive.

Hi,

I'm trying one of this popular caddy's that allows me to put a second hard drive in the optical slot bay, I use a Sata to Sata adapter, so there is not really an adapter besides connecting properly:

[http://www.akasa.co.uk/update.php?tpl=product/product.detail.tpl&no=181&type=Enclosures&type_sub =2.5%20Enclosure&model=AK-OA2SSA-BK]

My problem is with Toshiba BIOS that is expecting a ODD device in that Sata port and cames out with a "CD-ROM error", disabling the Sata port.

I have a workaround, if I start the PC, after BIOS post with anything in ODD bay, after starting Windows, I insert the second HDD in the ODD bay, go to "Windows Device Manager" do a "Check for hardware changes" and voil?, the second HDD is working fine, to me this proves a BIOS limitation.

Is there any help, a Beta BIOS or something else, I have the last BIOS 3.00 for this machine installed.

Service manaual is not a public document and not free for the download.
I’m sorry if this will be your last Toshiba but don't be sure that another manufacturer will give you service manuals. No one will give you such document.

Notebooks have specific design and it is pretty easy to damage something. That’s the reason why the disassembling procedure should be done by authorized personal only. When you buy TV, auto or anything else nobody will give you service manuals.

Of course you can do with your notebook whatever you will but on your own risk.

Hi all,

This is a problem I have been facing for about one month.
I've already asked help to the Microsoft support and I manage to circumstance the problem, unfortunately without being able to solve it.
The problem is the following:

Every time I plug an external hard drive via USB I am asked to format it before using it. This of course I do not want to do. This problem appeared all of a sudden, before everything was working perfectly.

My external hard drives work perfectly in other enclosures namely other laptops.

Additionally, if I reboot Windows 7 in the "safe mode" I can connect the external hard drives via USB without problems. It appears it is something I've got recently which is conflicting to my external hard drives.

Could it be any Toshiba update? Do you have any idea about things I could try to locate the problem?

How much memory can i fit in a Tecra M10-1CN and should it be in two 200 Pin SO DIMM DDR2 PC2-6400 800MHz modules

A:How much memory can i fit in a Tecra M10-1CN?

Hi

The memory expand possibility depends on the chipset of the motherboard
The Tecra M10 supports the Mobile Intel(R) GM45 Express chipset? and this chipset supports max DDR2 800MHz 8GB RAM

So first of all you can use 2 x 4GB RAM modules and secondly the memory speed is limited to 800MHZ.

Even if you would use faster modules i.e. 1033Mhz the FSB would clock down the speed to 800Mhz? so it?s not worth to use faster modules than DDR2 800Mhz

I wonder whether anyone might be able to answer a question for me.

I have a nice Tecra R10-11B and it has been very good for quite a few years. It runs Win XP and does everything asked of it without a problem.

What I would like to find out, though, is whether it is possible to fit a quicker CPU. I have a suspicion that the installed cpu may be permanently fixed and is not replaceable but I would like to find out.

I had played with the idea of replacing the Intel P9400 Core Duo with something a bit new, to allow perhaps installing Win 7 and more memory. There is 3gb of ram installed.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

A:CPU upgrade on Tecra R10

The CPU is socked and this means that the CPU is removable.
But the important fact is that notebook manufacturers don?t support CPU upgrade.
One of the main reasons is the BIOS which is mostly modified by notebook manufacturers.

But let?s start with some basic knowledge:
The CPU has to be supported by chipset and BIOS.

So let?s check what CPU would be supported by Mobile Intel GS45 Express Chipset which is part of the Tecra R10-11B
Here on this Intel Ark page you can find compatible CPUs
http://ark.intel.com/products/35505/Intel-82GS45-Graphics-and-Memory-Controller-Hub#@compatibility

But even if the chipset would support new CPU, some compatibility problems may appear because of the BIOS.
However, the Intel Core 2 Duo CPUs ( Montevina Penryn) were equipped in different R10 models, so probably other Intel Core 2 Duo CPUs would be supported.

By the way: the RAM could be upgraded up to 4GB RAM

The M1 has 3 led to indicate: (a) the AC power is connected (b) the power is on (c) the battery is available / charging.
Each of these can be green or amber.

The symptoms are the following:
- with AC adapter and batteries plugged, (a) and (c) are green
- when powering the laptop, the leb (b) is turing green for a fraction of a second; then start blinking amber with more or less 1 second frequency. Got a intermediate beep on speaker with the same frequency.
- display is bank. Not even bios is displayed.

I tried already the following:
1) remove AC and battery, wait a while, plug both and restart. Same issue
2) remove battery, boot on AC. Same issue.
3) remove AC, boot on battery. Same issue.

Any idea ?

Unfortunatley that?s everything what you can do if your notebook doesn?t start. At the moment it looks like a serious hardware malfunction and the mainboard or CPU could be affected.

I have tried SP1 & SP3 and each time it starts off gets about a minute in and then just sits and does nothing. I left the machine on for a couple of hours and it just doesn't do anything. On SP1 it says it is "backing up files" and SP3 says "Checking Product Code".

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

A:Cannot install SP3 on a Tecra M3

As far as I know Tecra M3 is delivered with WXP SP2 Professional so for WXP installation use Microsoft WXP installations disc with already integrated SP2 or SP3.

Do you have original Toshiba installations disc?

Have read many posts and tried what was suggested. I pulled the 2 memory modules and cleaned the contacts with an eraser. I inserted only one of the modules at a time, switching slots etc. and then powered it up each time. Once with only 1 module installed, I got the WINDOWS XP startup screen (with the moving bar below) and then the Toshiba Splash screen appeared and then the screen went blank again. Seems like the hard drive starts up and then stops. The DVD drive seems to respond with a low clicking sound. I hear a couple chirps/clicks from the hardware but no beeps whatsoever.

I'm guessing bad RAM. I will try with some new RAM later when I get some.

Since I did get the machine to sort of startup once, am I safe to assume the BIOS and Motherboard are okay ?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi,

my Tecra A11 with Win 7 Pro 64 and a Mat****a DVD-RAM UJ890AS is not able to burn on a CD-R. CD-RW and DVD is no problem but when trying to burn a CD-R I got following Error Code: 060277-26-2A031000

I tried the solution in
http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Computer-Troubleshooting/Error-code-380381-26-2a031000/td-p/172666
- without success. There are no upper/lower filter keys in my registry.

I tried CD-Rs from 3 different brands, I tried CDBurnerXP and the Toshiba Disc Creator - always the same error. There is written the track list (copying a music CD) and then the error appears. The CD-R is not usable any more after this.

What can I do? Is it possible to flash the firmware of the DVD-Drive - if yes, where can I get the fw?
Thanks in advance!

A:Tecra A11 - Cannot burn CD-R

Hi

What brands did you try?
I use TDK ?R and they functions properly.

Additionally I recommend cleaning the laser lens using cotton wool tip and alcohol.
Had also problems reading and burning some disks which have been solved after cleaning the lens.

HI, was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem: on boot up the screen flashes red instead of black, with vertical lines (white thin ones) across the screen. When it finally boots with windows xp, there are horizontal lines across the screen with different shades of the colour. The cursor has a box of lines around it. I think it's a VGA card issue but am not sure; has anyone had similar problems? I have visited irisvista on the web, where there are some instructions on disassembly. I got to the connector to the LCD and repositioned it, and noticed that when I appllied pressure in this area I could get near normal display.... can anyone shed some light???

It sounds like there might be something wrong with the cable or cable connector. Can you try another cable?

Hi. I have a 2007 Toshiba Tecra A9. I am not computer saavy so please excuse me. I have noticed what I am assuming is a fan on the left side of machine will not stop running lately and is hot and computer screen goes black. Took it to local computer person this weekend and paid extra for emergency fee. They cleaned machine out and blew out a lot of dust and cat hair. They found a Trojan - cleaned that up for extra. Today I came home to find fan running on full blast and hot. I don't know what to do now. Any suggestions would be so appreciated. Thank you.

I want to use this old laptop which originally had win98. I managed to put win xp on it, but it is unworkable slow. Today I tried Lubuntu (a linux distributioon specific for oldies) but that too is too slow.

I just want a simple OS to browse.

A:Which new OS can I use with old Tecra 8100?

I don?t know which ?new? OS do you mean but fact is that you have old piece of hardware and if you want to have well working machine you should install supported operating systems ony.

Drivers for them you can find on Toshiba support page - http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp in archive

Hi,

i bought the Z40 with a 500 GB HDD. As a replacement i bought the following SSD:

Crucial CT512MX100SSD1 - 500 GB

Unfortunately i didn't get it to work. On the BIOS i can see that the system recognizes the ssd. But neither the restored system boots, nor windows 8.1 Retail installs. Are there any known compatibility issues?

The problems persist whether the bios setting is UEFI oder CSM.

I upgraded to the latest bios version to 3.7, but that didn't change the result.

A:Tecra Z40 - HDD Upgrade

If the BIOS recognize the new SSD drive, then the drive should be visible also for the system.
May I ask you how did you try to install the Windows 8.1 OS?
What installation media did you use?

The Tecra Z40 does not support internal ODD (optical disk drive). Therefore I?m wondering about the installation procedure

Hi,

my TECRA A10-1HG PTSB1E does'nt recognize my second HDD who has taken the place of the cd-rom.
i'm using a SATA caddy, and the A10 boot with a CD-rom Error !!!
is it not possible to use a caddy with one TECRA A10?
Anybody have a solution ?

Thanks for your experience return.
Best regards

A:Tecra A10 does'nt recognize 2nd HDD in ODD bay

Hi

I assume the Tecra A10 does not support such upgrade.
The 2nd SATA controller does not seem to support the additional HDD instead of ODD.

But I read about some tricks to get such2nd HDD recognized.
You need to boot the notebook without the HDD caddy in the ODD bay.
After the Windows system has booted up, you could plug/connect the HDD caddy and the PnP system service should recognize the new device.

I think its not the best solution but it looks like it?s the only solution to get such HDD caddy recognized in ODD bay

Hallo!

I saw in a Youtube Video, that the SSDs that come as standard are mSATA ones and that there's space for a 2.5'' drive beneath.

So my question is: If I buy a Toshiba Tecra Z50-A-12R, which comes with a 500GB HDD, can I install an additional mSATA SSD as my system drive and use the 500GB HDD as a second drive?

Thanks
Martin

A:Tecra Z50 - mSATA SDD + 2.5'' HDD?

Well, some models are are equipped with an mSATA Solid State Drive (SSD) instead of a
hard disk drive. The computer seems to supports a 128GB, 256GB and 512GB SSD drives?

but as far as I know there is only one SATA controller in order to connect SSD or an HDD.
The mSATA SSD drive is connected to the controller using mSATA HOLDER ASSY.

So such holder assy is needed if you want to use an mSATA SSD drive.
Of course, you don?t need it if you use common 2.5? SSD drive or 2.5? HDD

A:Tecra Z50-A-11V: New SSD but Win 8.1 does not detect it

Hi

Did you solve this issue?
Could you install the Windows 8.1 system on this SSD drive?

I think the additional driver installation while setup procedure isn?t necessary since Win 8.1 should already contain the essential drivers.
From my point of few there could be an compatibility issue (maybe SSD firmware update would solve this).

How about the usage of other SSD drives? Do you have the same problem using other SSD drives from other manufactures?

Feedback would be appreciated.

Hi,

In my laptop model Tecra A8 # PTA83L-02K014, current HDD is Fujitsu 60 GB SATA (mode# MHV2060BH).
I want to upgrade it to 320GB/500GB.

Please suggest a replacement HDD.
I cannot figure out which HDD I should buy.

Regards,
kannit

A:HDD upgrade for Tecra A8

This old Tecra was delivered with several HDDs (from 60 up to 120GB). God thing is that this Tecra uses SATA HDDs so; generally speaking HDD upgrade should not be problematic.

Which HDD can you use? In my opinion HDD with around 300GB should be enough for this old piece of hardware. Just buy SATA 2,5? HDD. Talk with your local dealer and buy high quality product.

HDD replacement is not complicated and you can do it alone. If you need some help you are welcome.

I have Toshiba Tecra M7-132

I would like to improve everything possible

I want to increase the amount of RAM in my laptop but I do not know does my laptop can handle the memory faster than DDR2 533. I have Windows XP Tablet 32bit, I know it will handle only about 3.5 GB of RAM but it's better than 3 GB

I also want to change the hard drive. My current drive is HTS541080G9SA00 Hitachi, 80 GB, 5400 rpm SATA . Will it run with a bigger hard drive with speed 7200 rpm?

I installed all the most recent official drivers and BIOS

What else I can improve

A:How I can improve my Tecra M7?

Hello

According the specifications of Tecra M7-132 on Toshiba page it supports up to 4GB RAM but all 32bit OS support only up to 3.2GB RAM and for Windows XP 2GB is more than enough because it doesn?t need much RAM capacity.
The specification for RAM is DDR2-667.

Regarding the HDD: Larger HDDs are no problem because there is no capacity limit on SATA interface. That means you can also install 500GB HDD or larger. Only important is that you buy a 2.5? HDD with SATA interface.
Also 7200rpm shouldn?t be a problem but they creating more heat and need more battery power. Usually 5400rpm are enough and quieter.

Hello,

I own a Tecra A8-133 (PTA83E-0E403MBT ).
To give a kick to my aging laptop I bought a corsair neutron GTX SSD. Unfortunately, after
many attempts, and some corsair support, it seems the SSD is not compatible with that TECRA.

I'm ready to buy a new one, but, obviously I want to be 100% sure the SSD is compatible this time.

How can I find a list of compatible devices for this laptop ?

As a SATA 1 laptop, I know the performance will be restrained, but I don't care too much.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

A:Compatible SSD for Tecra A8-133

Hi

What?s wrong exactly?

I found some specification of the mentioned SSD drive from Corsair and it looks like the SSD drive is designed to support the latest high-speed standard SATA III (6Gb/s).
But it?s seems to be fully backward compatible with SATA II and SATA I. So it should be compatible?

From my knowledge there are no any special info regarding the SDD dive compatibility.
In some cases the SSD drive manufacturers provides an SSD drive firmware updates and sometimes such update helps to sort out some issues.
