Contact List vs. Address Book?

Q: Contact List vs. Address Book?

I use Outlook 2007 for my email needs. I have email addresses in my Contact list and I have email addresses in what I call the Address Book. The Address Book is what I can use when I'm sending an email and I click on the TO: button to find an address. It seems that theses are two completely different lists of email addresses. Am I correct? if so, is there a way to synch to a "common" list?

Thank you!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I assume that what shows up in my contact list in bottom left area of Outlook Express 5 under local folders section is taken from the same file that serves up my address book email addresses. One day this section just went blank and now if I add addresses in contacts it shows up in address book but not in contacts.

All I really need to know how to do is reset the path from contacts to the file that serves up the address book and I'll be fine.

So which one of you is the e-mail guru anyway?

Thanks in advance for the help!

A few years ago, Google updated their Contact List Address Book for Gmail, and now, there is no direct print option to print address book contact information. Does anyone know a way to do this?

I am using Windows 10 on a PC. This is the traditional web version of Gmail.

A:Printing A Gmail Address Book Contact?

I was curious so I tried it and there does seem to be an issue...sort of. I opened my gmail, then contacts....on the left side I clicked the "more" tab and in there is a "print" tab. Clicking that I get a pop up that tells me that this version of Gmail contacts doesn't support printing yet and I need to go to the "old contacts" list to do so. Following that, I could print out my contacts.

How can this happen and how can I delete the old one, please?

I have a problem. I have some contacts in outlook 2003, and then also different "contacts" when I go to tools and open up the Address Book. Is there a way I can move those entries from the address book to the CONTACT folder in outlook? I have my computer showing hidden files and folders, and did a search for *.pab and *.oab. It does not come back with anything found. Does anyone know what the file is that opens up when you go to tools/address book at the top of outlook?

It's funny because I can't find any address books in my computer, but one opens up in outlook and has contacts in there. I just realized this, but I have never manually placed contacts in there myself.

I REALLY need help on this issue. I know it's probably just a matter of importing it into outlook, but I need to find the file to import before that happens, and so far, it appears my computer doesnt have a pab, oab, or even when I do a search for "address book", it finds one file with a .wab extension, and when I open it, it appears to be an address book, but there are no entries in it. So it is obviously not the same file that opens up from within outlook.
If anyone needs any other information, let me know and I will supply you with this. I desperatly need help on this issue!!!

A:Oulook 2002 Contact/Address Book probs

The two address book file formats are .pab and .wab (not .oab).

Outlook keeps all of its data in one file called outlook.pst.

When you open the Find window to run a search, first go to Tool>Folder Options>View tab and check "Show hidden files and folders," click OK. Now it should be able to find a .pab or .wab file.

Once found, use the Import/Export feature in Outlook to import the data.

I recently got a new HP laptop with Vista/Outlook 2007 (coming from XP & Outlook 2003). My email & Contacts imported nicely to the new computer but my Address Book is blank. I tried right clicking on the Contact folder but the option "show this folder as an email address book" is greyed out.

Also, Internet Explorer says "Internet Explorer has stopped working" each time I launch it and the only fix I've found is to reset it to default settings each time I launch it. Very annoying! Any ideas on how I can fix this? Is it a known Vista problem?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi kind helpers,

I run my Hotmail account through Outlook Express. Yesteday I found an email from a friend in my OE Junk Mail. This person is in my OE Address Book, but when I go to Hotmail she is not in my Contacts.

How do I fix this so that everyone in my OE address book is also in my Hotmail contacts? And if I have to copy them across somehow, is there a setting which in future will make them go to my Hotmail contacts automatically so that this problem doesn't happen again?

Thanks, Mike.

My sister told me that her Windows Mail is really strange. I can't help her because I don't use Windows Mail so I am asking on her behalf.

a) When she opens her Contact list , the names are in alphabetical order (which is expected) .However when she composes an email and clicks on the "To" button , the name list displayed is not in alphabetical order by name but strangely ordered by email addresses. Is there a way to rearrange to resort by names?

b) When she types a name in the Address area ie in the box next to "To" , another page opens for search. Is this normal ? With Outlook ( which she used to use until she changed to a new computer running Vista) when you type the name a list of potential email addresses appear. IS there a way to fix this?

A:Windows Mail Contact list and email address order

I'm piggybacking on here because I have a similar problem. I imported my address book from Outlook Express and now when I begin to type in the name on "To" line it doesn't find the contact. For example if my contact is Joe Smith, I use to be able to type in Jo (and the auto fill would kick in) Now I need to remember Joe Smith's email which might not be anything like his name ([email protected]) How do I organize my address book like it was on O.E.? I want them alphebetically by first name, not by their email address.

In the CONTACTS section of Outlook 2007 there are various default settings that I don't like. But I don't find options to change them.
The main one is that the address box LOOKS as ONE field, but is in fact a collection of invisible fields: Street, City, State, Zip, Country. What you type in that big box is sometimes unclear to Outlook, then it pops up an edit box with all the separate fields. Sometimes there WAS already a (default) Country/Region in the box and then the result of a printed address could be: John Johnson, 1st Street 1, LA, CA 98765, USA, The Netherlands.
I would prefer to see the 'split' address view by default. How?
And if it is not possible, how can I force Outlook to show the split box when I need it?
The same address box has two options, business and home. Business is shown by default, so often I type private addresses in the wrong box - with confusing results when grouping, printing etc.
Can BOTH the Home AND the Business address box be displayed at the same time?
If not possible, then can I instruct Outlook to display the Home box by default?
Similar problem with the Email box. I always have to use the dropdownlist to see/edit/use a 2nd or 3rd email. In this time where many people have several email addresses, at least 2 of them should be visible by default in the standard view.

Is there a way when creating a Distribution List then place it in the Global Address Book, that only 2 or 3 people can open the Global Address Book and see that 1 Distribution List and not all the other users can see it.
For an example: HR Department wants to have a Full Time personnel distribution list, but only the person in HR Department can see it and all the other users can not see it when they open the GAB.

I exported my address book from Outook 2003 into the Windows (XP) Address Book. This is great because then I don't have to have Outlook open to view my address book.

However, it isn't linked to my Outlook address book so that whenever I made a change to my addresses in Outlook, it'll reflect in the Windows address book.

I had that set up perfectly in my old computer (Windows 98SE) but can't get it to work in XP.

A:Solved: Yahoo email unable to insert address from address book

Concerning my post above: I turned on my older XP computer and I had no problem with inserting an address from the Yahoo! address book.

I compared all my settings in both computers and noticed that I had different settings relating to how pop-ups are handled. XP reminded me that the address book takes the form of a pop-up. On my Vista I had pop-ups opening up (?) in a webpage. That is the page which came up blank. After I have corrected the settings, I no longer have a problem.

In the past I've maintained my address book using the built-in Address Book utility that came with Windows. Once each year, I would import my Address Book (.WAB) file into Outlook 2003/XP. (I don't use Outlook for email.) Then I would use the Mail Merge feature in Word 2003/XP to make and print address labels on standard Avery label sheets to simplify address of my Christmas cards.

Since I'm now using Windows 7, and the familiar Address Book utility is no longer available, how can I print my address labels? I have both Windows Address Book (.WAB) and Comma-Separated Values (.CSV) files that contain my address book data. So, I guess I need to know two things:
Which program or utility (preferably free) can I use to print my address labels.
How do I import my address data into that program?

If it helps, I am already a user of Gmail and Google Drive. Thanks.

A:Solved: Address Label Printing without Windows Address Book

Hi Jim,
Assuming you still have Microsoft Office (any version) you can use the Word mail merge feature and use your .csv file as your data source - no other programs necessary. What version of Office are you using?

Even then, only the name apprears not the whole address when I select an address from the drop down. I had to reinstall Windows XP because of numerous problems and now all of my contacts are gone from my address book. Is there any way to get them back or am I SOL???

A:Contact List

Sorry cspirawk,If you've already executed a re-install of your Win-XP, then you've wiped outyour history files. The only possibility of recovering part of your address book is if some of itmay still exist on your ISP's history, or other platforms that you've sent e-mail over. You could check those out and if some records still exist, export them back to yoursystem.Good luck, and regards~KoanBTW - to Bleeping Computer

I have a Lenovo Yoga 700, and when I go to this laptop's IWS page (after I detected my device with Service Bridge), there is nothing under the contact list. Does this mean that there is no IWS for Yoga 700? I need help...?

I just got caught with the scam that forwards itself to every name in my contact list. It all happened in a space of about 90 seconds. Had no idea the video my friend sent me was "funny" Iimmediately alerted everyone not to open mail from me that did not have something personal in the subject line. One of them asked if the scheme to start your contact list with [email protected] would stop this kind of thing. I didn't know. Would it?

A:robbing my contact list

Well, a program wouldn't be able to tell if the contact "[email protected]" was a real one or not. So it would continue down the list and use all addresses.

Hi everybody

Excuse my less then perfect English..

I have a (weird) problem with msn messenger. Most people know that it's possible to see wehter you have been removed from a contact's list in messenger. By going to options and then privacy, it's possible to see your blocked and accepted contacts. When right clicking a certain contact it either does or does not give the possibility to delete the contact. If the contact can be deleted, that contact has removed you from their list. If a contact can't be deleted, that contact still has you in their list.

Now, my problem concerns a contact, which I have regular chat sessions with. I KNOW that I am still in their list, yet messenger gives me the possibility of removing them (under options->privacy). Does anyone know what the reason might be and how I can fix this problem? There should be a way to update the acceptance list and make msn recognize that this contact has me in their list..

I'd appreciate help, this has been bugging me for a whule now.. Thanks in advance

A:Problem msn contact list

this means that the other contact have you blocked on their list.. pretty sure..

I've tried this problem on the Internet & Networking site and have had no replies. So I'm hoping to make contact on this site Can anyone help I wonder. I have loads of jokes, notices and anecdotes sent to me by friends. On my email page, I had until recently, a list of all my contacts running down the left hand side so that I could pass them on where appropriate. The list has gone from the screen ,so that now I have to look for addresses separately. I've tried everything to bring it back without success.:confused :thanks for reading this

This isn't necessarily Vista related but I saw some other posts that involved msn so I was thinking maybe someone here would be able to answer my question.

I was wondering about the "people-who-have-you-on-their-contact-list" list in the privacy settings of msn. See, I have a friend who I always chat with and it says that he does not have me on his contact list. Usually this would mean that the person in question (in this case, him) has deleted me from their msn. I originally thought he had deleted me too because he comes online MUCH less frequently lately. However, he has come online a few times and messaged me, so wouldn't this mean that he has not deleted me and that I am, in fact, still on his contact list? Because if I was not on his contact his, he would not be able to message me, right?

Is this just a glitch in the msn program or is it possible that he did remove me from his list and can still somehow message me? I have noticed this with a few other of my contacts as well. The thing is that, it seems to work fine with all my other contacts, and I tried testing it using another hotmail account to see if it works OK and it did. I added my first hotmail to the second hotmail's msn, and then hotmail #2 showed up on the list. Similarly, when i deleted #1 from #2's contacts, #2 disappeared from the people-who-have-you-on-their-contact-list list. So I don't understand what's happening in the situation of my friend and a couple of others.

A:Msn messenger - contact list.

Did you ever figure out what had happened?

I just noticed the same thing with a couple of my contacts. One I speak to regularly and I can't figure out if I'm not in the contact list anymore but not blocked either, or if it's just a glitch!

I won't get a chance to find out tonight and I feel a bit silly asking them if they deleted me.
