Lenovo L440 Screen upgrade

Q: Lenovo L440 Screen upgrade

Hello,I recently bought my school laptop from my school since I am graduating and I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade the screen to a more angle friendly screen, like an IPS panel also with higher resolution (FullHD). Is it possible and can any of you recommend a panel. The laptop in question is a Thinkpad L440 and the screen resolution is 1600x900.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Ms,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
We understand that your display is not working in your L440 laptop.
Issue might be with the LCD cable. Since the external display is working fine there is no issue with the motherboard.
Note: As per the Lenovo policy, the warranty will be void if the laptop is dismantled by yourself.
We would like you to visit the nearest authorised Lenovo service centre to purchase the power supply.
Service Center link - https://support.lenovo.com/in/en/contactus/findaprovider
Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

Hi,I have replaced CD-ROM by HDD Caddy with SSD (Samsung 850 EVO 250GB) in my Lenovo ThinkPad L440 (20ASS3GT0) as a second storage device (not one with the OS). When I'm trying to start the system, I'm getting a message "Configuration changes - restart the system." and the system reboots again and again. What is more, I can't access the BIOS any more - pressing F1 does not work. Updating to the newest version of BIOS (1.85) does not help. After removing HDD Caddy everything works fine. I have tried some of the configurations below: Removed the battery, pressed the power button for 10-15 sec. and rebooted with AC Adapter connected - still got message "Configuration changes - restart the system."Removed HDD from standard SATA port and connected it using HDD Caddy - cannot boot into the system. There is no message "Configuration changes...", HDD is detected but it is not on the list with bootable devices (there is only one option to boot over the LAN).HDD Caddy connected with no storage device - boot into the system with no problem. The problem is, that I need two storage devices - one for the OS and second one (using HDD caddy) for another data. Could anyone help me to solve that issue?

Hello. I have Lenovo L440 laptop. As I remember BIOS is Phoenix. When I turn on my laptop, it makes 1-3-3-1 (1 signal, pause, 3 signals, pause, 3 signals, pause, 1 signal). I could find in Internet what those signals mean. I could find only 1-3-3. Tell me please, what is wrong with my laptop? Thank you.

A:Lenovo L440 makes 8 signals (1-3-3-1)

Hello and welcome,
From the (English) Hardware Maintenance Manual - ThinkPad L440, L540
One short beep, pause, three short beeps, pause, threemore short beeps, pause, and one short beep
Shut down the computer immediately. Ensure thatmemory modules are installed correctly. If they are, andyou still hear the beeps, have the computer serviced.
That would seem to indicate memory issues.

Hi all, I have a Thinkpad L440 with 4GB of RAM.I want to upgrade it and I have two questions:1. Is it OK to add 8GB (so I will have 12GB in total) or it would be better to add 4GB in order to have two similar SODIMMs?2. Are there any known incompatibilities for specific brands? I found two SODIMMs from Kingston (part numbers KVR16S11/8 and KVR16LS11/8) and one from Crucial (part number CT102464BF160B). All are clocked at 1600MHz. Thanks in advance,E. PS: I beleive that I can upgrade the RAM without voiding the warranty, can't I?

A:thinkpad l440 cpu upgrade?

If you do it yourself it will certainly be cheaper, but the CPU is not considered customer-replaceable, so it may affect your warranty status. If you can do the replacement in a professional manner, so it doesn't look worked on, probably nobody will complain, as long as you keep the old part and replace it back before getting service. The FRU of the i7-4600m is 04X4049. You do not want to get one marked "ES" (engineering sample). The ES parts may not be final versions

Is it possible to upgrade the graphics card on the L440?

Go to Solution.

A:L440 graphics card upgrade

Good day and welcome to the community.
As with most every laptop, the graphics subsystem is either integrated with the CPU package, or if it's an actual discrete GPU, soldered to the system board. In some cases a particular machine may have been offered with either integrated or discrete graphics. In that instance, a machine with integrated graphics might be upgraded via a system board swap.
Looking at pg2 of the L440 FRU Parts List: https://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/l440_fru_list_20140825.pdf
you'll see main two types of system boards. One is "Integrated Graphics 4600" and the other is "nVdia N14M-GE with 1GB", so you do have that option, but it could be costly.
You can refer to the hardware manual: https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/l440_l540_hmm_en_sp40a26004_03.pdf
to get an idea of the physical task.
Hope this helps to clarify.

I would try resetting the BIOS using the jumper, or by taking out the CMOS battery, wait a minute or two, and then replace it and try booting up. See page 73 of the Hardware Maintenance Manaul linked below for location of the Clear CMOS/Recovery jumper (# 20) https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/thinkcentre_pdf/m83m93p_hmm.pdf Clearing the CMOS (BIOS)1. Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the computer. Then, disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the computer. 2. Remove the computer cover. 3. Locate the Clear CMOS /Recovery jumper on the system board. 4. Move the jumper from the standard position (pin 1 and pin 2) to the maintenance position (pin 2 and pin 3). 5. Reinstall the computer cover and connect the power cord. 6. Turn on the computer and leave it on for approximately 10 seconds. Then, turn off the computer by holding the power switch for approximately five seconds. 7. Repeat step 1 through step 2. 8. Move the Clear CMOS /Recovery jumper back to the standard position (pin 1 and pin 2). 9. Reinstall the computer cover and connect the power cord. Good Luck,

Hi, I started having weird after-wake up BSODs (bugcheck: 0x00000133) last week. I don't recall installing or udpating any software (other than Windows update) nor changing hardware configuration.
The BSODs are not regular and don't happen after every wake up, just circa every second third. It seems that they're slightly more likely to happen more times in a row but other than that there doesn't seem to be any way to predict them. Once a BSOD happened during normal use and not immediately after wake up (was about 2 mins after wake up).
The exact way they occur is following: Laptop gets waken up, is normally responsive for about 1-4 seconds, freezes, and after variying amount of time (sometimes seconds, sometimes minutes) fall into BSOD.
Event viewer (system logs) doesn't show anything with the exception of some printer-related problems that have - however -timespamp indicating that they-re after-crash problems. There're no System logs with timestamp in between wake up and crash and the after-reboot ones doesn't provide any useful information.
The laptop runs Windows 8.1 x64 with Ubuntu in dualboot which seems to be unaffected (can't say for sure, don't use it as much).

Hello, I have a problem with setting a custom splashscreen when booting my Thinkpad L440 in UEFI mode. The BIOS I am using is version 1.86 and model L440 obtainable from here http://support.lenovo.com/no/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-l-series-laptops/thinkpad-l44... as per the requirements I have made the images 16 colours palette (4bpp), both images adhere to the standards logo1 legacy boot (640X480) and logo2 UEFI boot (1366X768) where I used .gif format. The problem is that only the legacy boot screen splash actually gets used, but the UEFI boot splash image (logo2) does not appear at all. Everything that happens is that you get a completely black boot screen with only the (press enter to interrupt boot... ) option. I have tried many different pictures, and different formats but arrived to the conclusion that it is broken.  Trying to boot Windows with broken custom splash screen, I get a BSOD with the error IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL  and can't boot into Windows 8.1. This makes me believe that something is not working properly, and not only does setting a custom splash screen on UEFI boot not actually show my bootscreen, it could have damaged some UEFI boot drivers so that Windows is unable to start properly. Maybe the tool is outdated and did not save the splash screen correctly? Upon re-flashing the BIOS using winuptp.exe it asked me if I wanted to keep my custom splash screen, and when I hit yes it simply crashed. &nb... Hello everyone, I recently replaced the motherboard of my Core i3 Lenovo U430p with the motherboard of a Core-17 4500U U430 and it's working brilliantly. I took this opportunity to upgrade the screen as well to a 1080p one from a 720p. But it seems like it's recognising the screen as a 720p screen and is trying to force it to a 1366x768p resolution, which is why the monitor is blank, but the backlight lights up. I tried changing the resolution from Windows 10, and it shows the total screen scrunched up at the top left corner of the screen. Pictures (click to enlarge) Now I read here that a higher resolution screen might require a different LVDS cable with more wires, but I do not know which one. I say this because the service manual lists only one LVDS cable with FRU 90203119, which means every Lenovo U430(P) laptops in existence should have the same cable. What's going wrong here? Can someone with more experience with display issues like this comment?

A:Lenovo U430p screen upgrade

hi Ellimist,
May I know the model of the FHD panel that you used (e.g., AUO B140HAN01.1) ?
From your description, I suspect that the culprit is with the eDP cable.
An panel that uses a eDP (1 lane) signal type can only support up to 1680×1050 with 18 bit color depth, or up to 1366×768 with 24 bit color depth. On the other hand, a panel that uses an eDP (2 lane) signal type supports display resolutions up to 1920×1200.
More info:
DisplayPort Technical Overview
If your original panel is 720p then it's likely using an eDP (1 lane) signal type. Thus, you will need an eDP (2 lane) cable for the FHD panel to work correctly.
Sample panels:
AUO B140HAN01.1 (eDP 2 lane)
AUO B140RTN03.0 (eDP 1 lane)
Sample cable:
IPEX 20455-030E-12
If you purchased the FHD panel at an online store (e.g,, www.laptopscreen.com), you can purchase the cable from them and you can verify if it'll work on your panel.
Let me know how it goes.

A model of the y500 is sold with a 1080p display, and the graphics card in my model is more than capable of outputting such a resolution. You would need to find out the exact model of the 1080p screen was that was sold with that model and order the same one or compatible replacement model. Laptop screens are not universally interchangeable and you can't just buy any screen and connect it.

Hey all,

I have recently decided to restore my laptop back to factory settings for various reasons.

The factory settings on the recovery partition mean returning to Windows 8.1 and then upgrading back to Windows 10.

I have no problem returning to Windows 8.1 but when I use the Windows Media Creation tool to download Windows 10 and install something happens.

I start the installation where it says the computer will restart several times, but during one of the restarts it gets stuck at the Lenovo splash screen.

I have since run restore to get back to 8.1 a couple of times just in case there was a problem there but still the same problem happens when trying to upgrade to 10.

I have had no problem returning to 8.1 and then upgrading to 10 in the past.

I'm not sure what kind of information you'll need from me so request and I will let you know.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi everyone, I'd like to introduce myself with my very first post in this community. So, I'd like to upgrade my Lenovo B590 (I know it's an old one ).Currently my specs are: - Intel Celeron 1005M 1,90GHz; 8 Gb DDR3 Ram (which i perfectly upgraded); 450 Gb HDD and Windows 10 - 64x and this mainboard Socket 988B rPGA (G2 if I am correct). Thanks to this forum an other posts like this one: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-B-and-G-Series-Notebooks/B590-Processor-Upgrade/td-p/1948989 I could figure out more like for e.g. which CPU's are compatible. So my question is I actually found on ebay an Intel Core i5 Mobile CPU Socket G2 PGA 988 with the following FRU 40W0492, but on the Lenovo Maintenance Manual the FRU of the i5 is completey different (102001067). So is my laptop with this CPU incompatible 100%? Aren't FRU numbers supposed to have 7 numbers with letters? Or am I wrong? Thank you in advance and sorry for my english I haven't talked it for 3 years or so.

So everything has been working fine on my laptop until about 10:30PM EST tonight. I bought it new in August 2011.
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
CPU: Intel Core i7-2630QM @ 2.00 GHz
HD: 750 GB
It's always been a fine machine with NO problems.
However, last night there were Windows 7 updates that were installed and then restarted my computer. I had not gotten a chance to check exactly what they were though. About 10:30 this evening, flash crashed in Mozilla Firefox which is not that uncommon, and from there Firefox closed, and so did my Microsoft Word and Excel apps that were open. From there, my computer began to shut down and restart. When it went to restart, all it could do was go to the opening Lenovo screen which gives you the F2 (setup option) and F12 (multiboot menu option) as it typically does. Besides a thin strip at the top that appeared after about 30 secs that only displays moving static that eventually will just stick, that is where the boot process ends. No Windows 7 screen, and certainly no opportunity to boot into safe mode to check for any problems. The screen freezes and goes nowhere.
So basically, all I'm getting in terms of boot options are lenovo features, not windows 7 features, meaning it won't boot into windows 7 or windows 7 safe mode no matter what I try. The biggest problem here is that I have no windows 7 disc to even try to boot from my dvd drive.
Anybody have any suggestions on what the probl... Read more

A:Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 - Crashed and now won't boot past opening lenovo screen

Are you able to get into the advanced boot menu by tapping F8? It might not be listed on the startup screen but it should still be there.
If not you can burn a repair disc from any PC with Windows 7. Theres steps from Microsoft Here.
