Preferred Solution: Whats this unused connection for on my laptop mobo?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi. Called to a friends place; he has a toshiba satellite laptop (4gb,intel i3,640gb). Says the problem started when he left laptop running ie (was in youtube), came back and battery ran out. He also stated that the top,right-front of the laptop was unusually warm after this (hard drive area?). He plugged a/c in, and ever since then all he (and I) can get is the message "for atheros pcie ethernet controller
check cable connection
pxe-mof :existing intel pxe rom
no bootable device -- insert book and press any key."
I did searches on this error, and all pointed to hard drive (and possibly an incorrect boot order). I was able to get into bios, and it could see and recognize drive, but
that's all. when I went into chg boot order, it was correct. I re-seated drive, and I tried to get into recovery, and after 5-10 seconds of 'loading', the laptop freezes. I took drive out, and have it hooked up to an usb external enclosure. It has 3 partitions, but o/s says only 1.4gb of data, the hidden partition (recovery files, I assume?) says 14.5gb, and the rest is around 600gb. I can't access drive or the data on it, so I can pretty much assume it's gone. Question; I have never seen a drive die so quickly, usually gives some warning, so could it be something else, like the drive controller on the mobo? I know the boot order was correct. I don't have a spare drive to try out, and if it's the mobo, couldn't that fry another drive? Thanks alot.

A:whats the differece in 8x8 sli and 16x16 sli configurations on mobo's

It just means that when you have the two x16 slots occupied, they'll downclock to x8 speeds, so they'll both run at x8 x8. I doubt it'll affect performance to the point that you'll notice unless you're doing some intense GPU compute and rendering tasks.

So go ahead and get another 560ti with that motherboard. It'll still run perfectly well.

ok. Ive made a few posts since this started.
against what i wanted to do i actually went out today and bought a legal copy of Windows XP to attempt to solve the problems Ive been having with my computer (random freezes, motherboard beeps once.) Seemed to help as the xp actually installed where it wasnt before with my bootleg. so. yay. Im in my computer and I do a little happy dance, but then other problems start to occur. weird random firefox crashes. I tried to run WoW and it crashed with a BSoD and then when I restarted I got another BSoD crash.

SO. I decided to do a Memtest since people keep telling me I should check my RAM. Im currently in the process off doing this. on pass 2 now. so far 2 errors.

I have 2 sticks of 1gig A-data ram in currently. from what I read I should now take out 1 stick of ram and test just 1 stick and see if i get any errors correct??

I have a feeling its a combination of my motherboard and power supply as the culprit because this only started happening after installing a more powerful video card.

my powersupply came with my case (i know, crappy) and its 400w icute brand.

motherboard is ASUS M2V with AMD processor. If i get a new motherboard it will NOT be asus. they have terrible customer service. what do people suggest? Im pretty sure its an AM2 socket.

I want to shrink C partition on my new Lenovo laptop, to make space for two extra partitions.
- one for temporary downloads and the other for a possible virtual drive for testing
- the Lenovo is to replace an (ailing/unstable) 7 year old Toshiba

I have a bootable MiniTools (on DVD) to shrink the Lenovo C partition (with Windows OS inactive)
- I believe this is the only way normally unmovable files can be "relocated/moved" during the resize/shrink process

So far (out of the box) the Lenovo has not been used other than to register the OS with MS.
- no apps nor AV etc have been installed, it is a very clean machine.
- the default AV (Norton) has been uninstalled, but no defragging yet Greg Rocker suggested Piriform's Defraggler. I would prefer a portable defragger at this pointCurrent usage on my old Toshiba is 111GB approx 20% of the usable C:\ drive space (images at end of this post)

My plan is to use unallocated space on the Lenovo for one or two other partitions
2. Virtual drive for testing ( not sure whether SandBoxie in C: or a separate virtual drive/partition)

I think 100GB for C on the Lenovo would be more than ample because I now use an external USB HDD for data.
- I do use hibernation occasionally so adequate space would be required for that
- is my target of 100GB enough (on the Lenovo) for OS, apps, AV, hibernation etc ?

This is my first foray into partitioning the OS drive
- I have partitioned data drives in the past using insta... Read more

This is for online gaming. I play StarCraft online. I have a Cogeco cable connection, but whenever I play on starcraft, the game lags. Three of my friends also have the exact same connection as me, and they never get lag. Is there a quick fix for this, like changing some settings or something, thanks

A:whats wrong with my connection

Well either the cable modem is the problem or windows . Try and do a tracert to the server that you most play and should see where the lag comes ( it's possible that the server itself has the problem , it's possible since you have a cable modem , in your neighborhood there are too many connected etc..). If the problem end up to be the cable modem , not much can be done, since cable comp will not guarante you a low latency hence LPB.

ok my question is: i have on HDD and 2 CD-ROMS normaly i tend to connect both CDs on the same ide cable (ide 2 on mobo) and HDD alone. is that the optimal connection if yes tell me why and if no, well tell me wich connection is better and why thx for help!

HDD: 40 GIGs maxtor
CDroms: CD RW 16x10x40x + DVD rom 16x

Oh another question, i know its off topic but, can my sound card slow some games ?

thx for youe help ! :grinthumb

A:I wanna know whats the best connection for 2 cdroms and 1 HDD

Keep as is, the HD by itself as Master on IDE0, and keep both CD/DVD on IDE1.
Never put a HD and a CD/DVD on the same cable. The CD/DVD is a lot slower and would pull the HD down to the (slow) speed of the CD/DVD.
Soundcards have no influence on the speed of any game, a card with bad drivers could SOUND lousy, but that's about it.

So very recently my internet connection started to slow down drastically ( i usually average about 40/30 mbps download and 4/5 mbps upload) Now out of seemingly no where it has slowed down to 2mbps download but my upload remains 4mbps.
But when I torrent something it downloads regularly at 3mbps, but when i direct download (or like patch a game) it slows to trickling speeds. Im using wifi to connect to the modem in the room right next to mine, and the pc thats directly connected to the router has the regular fast download speeds, I even checked the wifi on my phone and ran a test and it was faster then the speeds on strictly my pc. Also, after a while of me being logged in to my pc I cant load websites all together, on any browser. It still says im connected to the wifi, and it still allows me to play online games, and talk in programs like Teamspeak, but I cant load any websites. Restarting my pc fixes that issue, but the extremely slow download speeds remain.
I have ran my antivirus software (Comodo internet security) and scanned 3 times, but to no avail. It didnt detect any issues. Im here now because I have absolutely no clue what to do to fix it.
Thank you.

I have a netgear FR114P router at home with DSL. I want to be able to access a computer I have connected to it from the outside using XP's Remote Desktop Connection. I don't want to use PCAnywhere...I want to use the Remote Desktop Connection that comes with Windows XP.

I can't seem to get a Service & Rule set up correctly to allow me to forward to that PC.

I can get to the Router itself from the outside to manage it....but I can't figure out how to configure it so that I can get to a PC.

Any ideas out there? Can anyone briefly tell me how it could work?

I have set up PCAnywhere before but can't seem to figure this one out.
Can XP's RDC even do this?

Thanks to anyone with input!

Basically you enable it on the host computer, configure the router for the appropriate port mapping, and then configure the client.

And just so you know, there are some differences as far as features between pcAnywhere and Remote Desktop.

About a few weeks ago I couldnt log into windows live messenger to check my mail so I decided to try going to hotmail.com to do it. When I did there was certificate problems and I saw that my clock time was set to like 12:30 am or something and the date was switched to january 1st 2005. Also it said I had alot of new programs installed when I went to start and All Programs. There was no new programs, just my older ones I had that were highlighted like they were all new. There was nothing different.

To fix it, mainly because I didnt want to restore the computer, I used the XP system restore feature and set it back to a checkpoint from earlier in the month and it worked. Everything was back to normal and working fine.

Well, it all happened again so here I am looking for a fix and asking advice about what I can do and if anybody else has had this problem. Is it a virus or something malicious?

BTW, I am on a Toshiba laptop. A Satellite A58-S107 model with Windows XP installed. Hopes this helps and thanks in advance for any advice.

Firewalls & antivirus being disabled mysteriously is often a sign of malware infection. Hi there, I have windows 10 on my HP Pavilion laptop. I was using the laptop last night I'm not sure what happened but at some point I became unable to watch youtube videos, the videos would load but not play, I would sometimes get them to be able to play by fast forwarding through a bit but it would play with no sound at all. I was having this problem on chrome, so I tried using internet explorer to see if the problem persisted and indeed it did, so I'm guessing the problem isn't with chrome.

However it now seems the problem is not exclusively with youtube videos, I've tried opening itunes but nothing happens, I also can not open firefox, I have also tried opening up YouCam but that doesn't open up either.

So far I've tried restarting my computer a few times, updating my graphics driver, completed an AVG scan which showed no threats. I'm not particularly great with computers, does anyone have any idea as to what is wrong with my machine?

UPDATE: When YouCam fails to load, I am getting the message "You do not have the compatible VGA hardware or driver to run YouCam" I've gone to update my graphics driver but it says that "Windows has determined my driver software is up to date", any ideas?

You have a lot of spyware. Might as well download and run a good Spyware and Trojan Removal program.

Spybot Search and Destroy:

This will also protect your home page from being hijacked.

With any of the above three programs, just like with Anti-Virus software, should have the latest updates installed before doing a scan.

Programs that can help prevent getting infected:

Spyware Blaster

Spyware Guard

It also looks like at one time you had AVG anti-virus as well.

Hi, All!
I have recently purchased a Ryzen 3 2200G, Gigabyte AX370M-DS3H motherboard and 1x8 2400mhz stick of ram running windows 10 home (not activated). After booting the system I wasn't getting any internet from my LAN cable, I tried replacing the cable with another, trying a different port on the router and installing a new LAN Drivers. After the drivers it started to work but not very well, It would take close to a minute to load up chrome as well as other browsers. I couldn't use apps like discord or steam and was given a No Connection error. I tried factory resetting the PC and then installing the latest drivers. After resetting it now says Unidentified Network and No Internet. I'm using a USB WiFi Adaptor plugged into a USB port in the front of my PC which lets me use the internet but still takes 10ish seconds to load pages. I'm suspecting it could be something to do with my motherboard as the internet seems fine on my laptop and phone as well as the LAN working fine on my previous PC a couple of weeks earlier. Im using a Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller and a Realtek RTL8191SU Wireless LAN 802.11n USB 2.0 Network Adaptor

any ideas would be much appreciated.
also i can salvage two 1 gig ram disks(?) out of my old one to upgrade it.
much love

I have a pretty decent spec laptop with a 750GB hard drive, at the moment there is just big "C" drive within both the OS, installed applications and my library files on it. Is there a better way of using the space with multiple partition etc and if so what are the idea ways that some of the more "PC Friendly" people currently use?

A:whats the best way to partition my laptop hard drive?

You can always keep another partition for storage. A purpose to keep another one for data is to move the User folders to it so it keeps the C partition smaller for imaging purposed. Then if C ever becomes irreparable you can reimage the OS and Programs to C in 20 minutes while your data is waiting and current in D partition.

To do this shrink C to create a new partition, copy your active User folders (Docs, Pics, Music, etc) there, rightclick each to add to related Library - Include a Folder - Windows 7 Forums.

Once everything is there you can delete the content of the User folder on C. But keep C in the Library so you can see if anything gets written there.

If you use another imaging apps besides Win7 you can actually move the User folders themselves to the data partition as shown here: User Folders - Change Default Location. However with Win7 backup imaging it would deem the new data partition a System partition and force inclusion of it in the image, which defeats the purpose of keeping C smaller for imaging purposes.

Once you're working with your user folder data like this you can also consider a modern backup and syncing method like shown here in Sync, Backup and Store your Files to the Cloud with Skydrive - Windows 7 Forums

Ive been out of the loop for quite a while. The latest games Ive bought were in the Halo/Call of Duty 1 era. Im looking for a laptop, and Id assume now even the weakest laptop would be able to support these games, would you agree? They all blow my old desktop comp Im using out of the water. Im also looking at stores for one and none of them have a graphics card listed, do I not need one?
for example, the computer Im most interested in as of now: Toshiba Sattellite Notebook Pc, AMD V series 2.2GHZ, 2GB DDR3, 320GB HDD

Im basically just a recently out of school graphic designer and need something to play games on, surf the web, and design. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Well, seeing as how my internet setup is very odd by itself, I'm not expecting to find an answer, but it would be nice.

Anyways, on to my problem.

I have my internet run through a router, and to two computers. It's a LinkSys router, and worked fine with my old PC(some sony piece of junk). Anywho, I've built a new PC with the ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe and the net is kinda hard to get working.

My Ip isn't 192.xx.xx.xx or so, it's an actual 24.xx.xx.xx type IP, and sometimes my mobo doesn't recognize it properly. It requires me either disabling/re-enabling the LAN thing in network places until it gets the right IP, or disconnecting/reconnecting the cable until it does. Sometimes works in one try, sometimes in quite a few.

That's where it gets annoying...sometimes it takes FOREVER to get my PC connected to the internet. Also annoying because someone in my family is a real ******* and looooves to disconnect the LAN cable on my side, causing me to do the process over again(usually takes ~1 hour).

If anyone would shed some light on my problem, it would be a great help. Thanks in advance.

Also, if it's notable, I cannot access the router at all from my PC using the browser or any method(to clarify; typing or something in the browser).

A:Mobo handles LAN connection very oddly.

First of all your motherboard does not work with IP addresses or network settings. you should be working with the property sheet for the Ethernet card (Which might be built in , but still referred to as such)
Next, Every Lynksis I have seen Uses the access for the Setup pages and you must go there in order to setup properly. If you do not have an owners manual , download one from Lynksis.
I suspect you have automatic settings Checked , but That amongst other settings will not matter until you access the router.

I'm new to the forum but it is excellent so far...
I have a Dell (gulp) P4 1.4 Socket 423 Willamette. The mobo is Dell's and there is a mere single fan header that powers a 92 mm exhaust fan, for the P4, at the rear of the case. I bought a 56 cfm Panaflo fan to replace the temp sensing fan it came with (low flow) but I get a 'no system fan detected' at POST. The Dell forums say that the BIOS has a routine that looks for the fan. I can't use the header because it has a certain shape that won't accept a standard 3-pin molex. Can the BIOS be hacked? I need to cool this system better and any ideas would be appreciated.

A:Thermal sensing mobo connection

You could look in the bios for an option to disable the no fan stop.
Doubt if there is one though.

What about removing the connector from the current fan and soldering it to the new fan. Are they both three wire fans, should work.
Just snip the three wires paying attention to color codes and strip and solder the new fan to the header connector. If it doesn't work you should be able to reverse the process to get the old one back working.

Although if the machine is still in warranty doing this would probably void the warranty

Another option would be to place both fans in the case if room allows and use a four to three wire adapter to plug the fan into one of the space power plugs in the case

and gets no further but I did at lest get it turned on by shorting the speaker pins.

I recently built my first computer and I cannot find out where to plugin the firewire port form the front panel to the mobo. There is place where the front USB ports are connected to but no place to plug in the firewire. Is there anyadapter I can buy so I can just plugit into the internal firewire port on my firewire card? The end of the firewire cable coming from the front firewire port looks like the same kind of plug that is on the end of the wires coming from the front USB ports and the end of the wires from the case fans that plug into the mobo. Any suggestions will be greatly apppreciated.

A:Trouble with mobo/firewire connection

Well, first to the obvious (I'm sure you've tried this already); did you look in the instruction manual? If it's not listed there, your motherboard probably doesn't have the pins on it to plug in the firewire, even though your case has a firewire port.

From your question about the adaptor, I'm guessing that your firewire card doesn't have the same pin configuration as the wires coming from the front of the case. There is no adaptor that I know of; but perhaps you can Google for it.

Happy Hunting!

Summary at the bottom for you "TLDR"ers.

Alright so I just picked up a 9600GT from my friend. Unfortunately, my PC is a bit old, so it lacked the necessary 6 pin power cable coming from the PSU to successfully power the 9600GT. I would've left it in anyways...but you'll find out why I took it out in about 30 seconds providing you reach the next paragraph in that amount of time. The only cables I could find for a 6 pin adapter needed two power sources, and I only saw one of those two available inside my case, so I set that aside. But I digress, since this is not the issue, however this is:

So I get the 9600GT. I go upstairs to put it in, had to take out my network card (wasn't in use, ethernet cable was in the motherboard port) to be able to fit the card
since it needs two PCI-E slots. I fired it up with the 9600GT, worked fine other than the power issue. Had internet, nothing changed, etc. I shut it down. I took the card out to see what the actual cable I would need should look like, found the cable type...did some more random research, put the card back in an hour later. Fired it up, no internet. Restarted, no success, shut it down, sat dumbfounded for a few minutes, went to get the old network card that I took out. To be able to put it back in with enough space, I had to take out the 9600GT, so I did, and put my old @%$$bag video card in. Fired it up, installed the drivers I got off another computer, restarted, and I had the internet. I tried pu... Read more

A:Wired connection problems...mobo? Need assistance.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type devmgmt.msc

Please respond to all the following steps.
Under Network adapters, please tell me all the devices listed.
Are there any devices under Network adapters that have a red x displayed?
Also, are there any devices anywhere in the Device Manager display with yellow ? or ! displayed?

Let's see this as well with the cable connected to the modem/router.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Hi Everyone,

This is a strange and baffling problem. I&#8217;m not a complete novice and spent a lot time and tried many different things trying to solve it on my own, but nothing worked. Please bear with me as I&#8217;ll do my best to describe the situation.

Some time ago, I decided to build a budget pc to serve mainly as an HTPC of sorts. The idea was to spend the bare minimum initially and then upgrade the system as I go along. I therefore opted for a mobo that has (what I thought was) decent onboard graphics and HDMI output (ASUS M4A78LT-M) so that I could hook it up directly to my TV (Toshiba Regsa). As I mostly work on my laptop, I don&#8217;t have a computer screen (and no real reason to buy one).

Here are the system&#8217;s specs:
Mobo: ASUS M4A78LT-M
Processor: AMD Athlon II X2 250 3.0Ghz
CPU cooler: Stock
RAM: 4GB (2 X Crucial DDR3 PC3-10600; 3.25GB usable)
HDD: Western Digital Caviar 500GB
ODD: Pioneer DVR-A18LBK</SPAN>
OS: Windows 7 Professional (32bit, SP1)
From the start the video outputs gave me a headache. Working with the VGA connection, I was trying to install Windows XP on the machine, but the screen kept going blank after POST and giving the onscreen message &#8220;&#8220;unsupported video format&#8221;. I almost gave up thinking it was a compatibility issue with my TV or that the modo was DOA, but then I tried to install Windows 7 and suddenly everything worked fine. After installing the OS, I updated the bios to t... Read more

What connection have I missed? It wont turn on and it did before I moved it over.
I moved everything from a small case to a larger one because the CPU fan was directly behind the PSU so it overheated and made scorch marks on the side of the PSU box too but when I put it back together in the new case it doesn't turn on.

I think its to do with the wires I am holding in the 1st pic and I reckon they go into the connector I am holding it infront of but I have already tried every combination I think of and they SHOULD have been straight forwards because they have labels on.

If you need any more info or pics to help you guys help me solve it, just ask.

A:Solved: Mobo connection. (large images)

Sorry guys, I solved it myself. The labels on image1 are incorrect, when I shorted the pins that said "speaker" the computer got past post and turned on.

Thanks whoever looked anyways.

I've been trying to sort it out for the better part of the last three days: I'm trying to connect my MoBo (Asus P5Q SE/R) to my Gfx card (Nvidia 9600 GT) with a S/PDIF cable. The aim is to make my DVI-HDMI cable transmit digital sound to a Samsung tv.

There is one unmarked S/PDIF 2-pin socket on Nvidia, which is quite easy to spot. However, I have a problem with the other side. I tried to connect the other end of my cable to a 3-pin S/PDIF socket on my mobo - to no avail.

Someone here suggested I should try connecting to an AAFP front panel audio connector. However, I'm not sure which pin to connect. The pin diagram for my MoBo is as follows. I assume ground should be attached to the GND pin, but what with the other cable? The cable itself looks like this.

Any help would be appreciated.

A:MoBo - Nvidia sound connection problem

Nevermind, found a solution. In short: go for the 3-pin S/PDIF connector, but don't trust the user manual on which pin does what. In my case the position of ground and S/PDIF was reversed.
