Acer Aspire 5100 Sound Problem

Q: Acer Aspire 5100 Sound Problem

I am having an issue with the sound on my laptop. It will play videos and music, but at some point the sound just....freezes. It is like when a CD has a scratch and it plays the same two words over and over again. Most of the time the screen is not frozen and I can click to exit out or shut the computer down. The sound, however, does not stop when I shut it down or unplug it. It only stops when I remove the battery. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Preferred Solution: Acer Aspire 5100 Sound Problem

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have an Acer Aspire 5332 and this used to happen to me but when it used to happen I would open up task manager, go to processes and find explorer.exe, then I would click it click end process then go to the applications tab and click new task, then just type in explorer.exe this fixed it for me and it happened for a while but went away on it's own. Hope this helps you.

I'm no computer genius, but I knew that having unused programmes on my laptop can't be helping my running speed etc, so in a bid to be quicker I decided to have a clean up.
I went into my add/remove programmes and got rid of a few things...

- MSN messenger
- Adobe Photoshop
- And a few other things I deemed unnecessary.

After that I had no sound. I tired a system restore, nothing, and I've been on the acer website and downloaded the audio driver, still nothing.
I'm running XP, as I tried vista and my laptop didn't take to kindly to this upgrade.

So any help would be very much appreciated. I'm not a major rush, so if it take a week or so of process of elimination I honestly don't mind, its just terrible sat with a silent laptop.

Thanks a lot, Eleanor.

A:No sound on Acer Aspire 5100 series

No sound?

Are you sure you installed the correct audio driver ?
I use, a free program from 'Drivereasy.com' It will scan yout PC and get the right drivers for you. But its a good move to uninstall the old one in 'Device Manager' first
Any chance you have just muted the speakers ? ( left click on the speaker in the taskbar and push the marker up to about 15).

My Acer aspire 5100 laptop (with VISTA Home) will start and I get the normal screen. But the mouse and keyboard do not work. Someone suggested using a PCMCIA/USB card to get it to work with an external USB keyboard and USB mouse. Do you think that will work? If not, any other suggestions on this problem? Thanks!

A:Acer Aspire 5100 Input Problem

1) You are saying that the laptop's built-in mouse (touchpad?) and keyboard don't work? (fyi, if applies in your case, some laptops have a switch near the touchpad that turns them on/off) Check your user documentation

2) If 1 above is true, then you certainly need at minimum an external mouse / keyboard to even just diagnose/try to fix your problem. However, you mention needing a PCMCIA/USB card.. Any reason for you to believe the USB ports on the laptop aren't working either?? Just try plugging a USB mouse into the laptop's USB port?

I bought this laptop in September 2007, then all of a sudden it started giving trouble to power up.

The battery and the charger work perfectly in another Aspire 5100.

I have to really fiddle around with the adapter for the laptop to get AC power, and it wouldn't start up unless the charger is plug in.

Once i get AC power i could power on he laptop fine, remove the adapter from the laptop and it will operate off battery power fine, but it would not start up on battery power, even if the battery is fully charged.

Any help will be appreciated.

Hello everyone,

It is my first thread on this forum and I want to thank you because you indirectly help me so many times.

I just installed new bios 1.25 on my notebook because of usb issues. Everything works fine but suddenly my wifi device stops working on windows 7.
It is well installed, the connection under Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections is enabled, but It doesn't see any WiFi spot.

It is not a device hardware problem because it works under ubuntu.

I tried all the usual ways: reinstall drivers etc but nothing happens.

I don't want to reinstall my OS because I'll have too many settings to restore after.

Is there anyone experiencing the same problem? Anyone who fixed it?

I have a friends acer aspire 5100 that was getting stuck on the windows login screen.
So I used GPARTED and saw there were 3 partitions.
two were 50+ gigs and the 3rd was 4.11 gigs.
So I used GPPARTED to make one partition.
So I tried to format it but wouldn't see the drive. So I used GPARTED again and saaw that it wasn't allocated.
SoI then booted with GPARTED again and now have a bigger problem.
Now it boots with beeps,, one long and two short so is a vid prob now as the screen is black.

any suggestions on how/what program to use to get the drivers to install so I can see the screen?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A:Acer Aspire 5100

You may have caused a little video probleme but your main probleme is that you completely screwed your boot partition.

Using partitionning tool like Partition Magic or Gparted to modify partition that have boot sector on it is not a great thing to do, you may damage some systeme file and crash your systeme.

The only solution i see is to try to back-up your file with another computer and reinstall Windows.

I have an acer aspire 5100 that does not even boot. It crashes early and tries to reboot without success. None of the other booting modes work either, all crash early. I can go to the bios with f2 and something seems strange. In the boot priority order, I have:

4: PCI BEV: Realtek Boot Agent
etc. usb all empty.

Shouldn't the hard drive be in SATA?

Several months ago, i was using my acer aspire 5100 laptop when the mouse suddenly stopped moving and the computer became unresponsive. When i restarted it it worked for about 30 seconds and the same thing happened. I've removed the operating system and initially, i was able to re-install it, only to find the same problem. I then wiped the hard drive using a boot CD and now it won't even boot from disk. Also, it froze when installing windows xp (I think this was the same issue as when it initially broke), and for a while it came up with a PXE-61 error which now no longer appears.
The laptop managed to run linux ubuntu for about a week no problem until the same error occurred.
any tips would be great

I have an Acer Aspire 5100-3357 that was working fine with Windows Vista until I was on line and Windows downloaded some updates for Vista. Now my screen is PURPLE where it should be white. I thought I wiped Vista and put XP on it. Still purple. Wiped that and put Suse Linux and still purple. It is not the screen itself when the installs happen it is fine but once the operating system is complete it is...you guessed it purple. Should I blame Acer or Vista, I don't know but anyone have similar problems and PLEASE tell me how you fixed it?

A:Acer Aspire 5100-3357 P.O.S.

After you install the Operating System, you have to install the drivers for the laptop's motherboard. These drivers include video, sound, network and chipset.

Normally the video should be fine as far as color. Only video size is changed by adding drivers... Who knows why your screen goes purple. The LCD screen may be defective

Hi, I'm a newbie to this forum, and am hoping I can get some help.

Back near Christmas, my USB ports and built-in bison webcam suddenly died on me.
Anything that gets plugged into the USBs are not recognized, and the webcam isn't even being detected.

I've tried updating my drivers, getting chipsets, and switching to XP, none of which worked (the XP switch didn't last long)

I know that there has been some issues with Acer Orbicams, which I've encountered before, like having pictures in the My Pictures folder, which then causes the cam to not work.

Anyway, I'm just hoping to get some advice!
If not, there's always staples

Thanks in advance!

Hi Folks - I'm a newby here. I have this 3yr old laptop that has frozen up a second time now. The keyboard and mouse are locked out once the thing starts and opens a browser page. The pointer sits in the middle of the page and wired or wireless mouse have zero effect, also, the main battery is not fried. I have tried tostart in safe or command mode and it will not recognize any key entries. Similarly pressing Fn + F6 or 7 do nothing. This same issue was fixed by a guy a few months ago and it was not via reformatting. I think it is a simple enough fix, I don't know what exactly he did tho. I believe it has something to do with lack of a video driver but maybe not. Anyway, any ideas greatly appreciated - cannot afford an new one.

This is my first post here, so I hope I'm in the right place!
I have an Acer Aspire 5100 notebook and I'm having trouble connecting to my home network.
My wireless internet was working fine until Saturday night, when I couldn't get internet access.
When I go to Network Diagnostics, I get a message that says "This computer does not have a wireless adapter installed and configured."
Under Network Connections, the Local Area Connection says "Network Cable Unplugged."
Also, the Wireless LAN communication indicator in the front won't light up, and it shows a message on the screen saying "No Wireless Device."
However, my computer is the only one that can't get internet access--the other laptops with wireless internet in the house are getting internet fine.
How can there be a cable unplugged if all the other computers are getting wireless internet?
Thanks for the help!

A:Can't get internet access on Acer Aspire 5100

Are you running Vista or XP on that laptop. In any case do this..

vista click on the circle
click on run
type: devmgmt.msc

xp click on the flag (start)
click on run
type: devmgmt.msc

scroll down the list for Network Adapters
click on the [+] to expand the tree
click on the wireless driver
then right click on the wireless driver
click on uninstall

Before you do anything you should have the lastest wireless driver for your laptop from Acer support site for the 5100. Download that now, then click on uninstall the driver. Reboot the PC and login back

Install the new driver and you should be okay now.. If it doesn't work then their could be an issues with the onboard wireless driver..

I have an Acer Aspire 5100 that until this morning will not boot up. It shows the acer logo, and i am able to get into the bios settings but after that the screen is blank with a blinking underscore (_) and thats it. I have tons of school work on that computer and would like to get it off without restoring my whole computer. I dont have an XP cd and i also dont have the cds that came with the computer anymore. I was told i can do a restore using ALT + F10 but I am wondering if this will help and if i can get my files off the computer before doing a restore. Any suggestions? I also recently installed Norton 360, and do know that i have errors on my hard drive....if that may be the problem.

Also I have a gateway MT6451 laptop. The Acer is also a laptop...is it possible to connect the computers together to get the info off of the Acer and then do a restore on the acer? If this IS possible can you explain to me how to do it because I'm not extremely skilled with computers and dont know exactly how to set up a slave drive on my laptop (if possible). Thanks

Press <F1> to resume, <F2> to setup

Pressing F1 and starting normally windows does not load(no green bars passing by) and doing Startup repair the bar freezes at random places whenever I try that. In the beginning after turning on the system 2 to 3 times the problem goes away. Now i have tried many times it doesn't work. I tried BIOS default settings, boot from network disable, change the boot order, still the same problem.

I was given this laptop a year ago, so i don't know when it was bought( I am guessing 2007). My processor is AMD Turion 64 x2 mobile technology TL-50. I don't know my current windows pack version but I know I have the latest windows vista update.
I only have this laptop so thanks for any help you can provide.

Just joined this forum after several Google searches yielded no helpful results. Anyway, I have a 2007 Acer Aspire 5100 (it's running Windows Vista Home 64-bit, if that makes any difference; and yeah, I know - old laptop is old) which, over the past several months, has developed a peculiar "quirk" which has gotten progressively worse. Basically, when I turn it on and it starts booting, it will "forget" that the AC power supply is plugged in and then switch to battery power. Once it does this, there's no way to make it "remember" that it's plugged in (disconnecting the cord and then reconnecting it doesn't work, and neither does anything else I've been able to think of), and when it's running on battery power, it dies within a couple of minutes (because the battery is as old as the computer is). The only solution is to shut the computer down by hitting the power button, and then power it back on again and keep doing this until eventually, it makes it through the boot sequence without issues. I've never encountered this issue beyond a certain step. It only occurs during the boot sequence - never when I'm fully logged in and actually using the computer. Basically, this means that once I've made it past a certain step, I'm safe - until the next time I have to boot. Also, because the issue only occurs during the boot sequence, I don't believe the power supply is the source of the problem (although, if your experience says differently, please speak up).&nbs... My laptop, and Acer Aspire 5100 has always had a lousy internet connection, and I've just dealt with it until yesterday.

First off, some recent background- Two days ago I upgraded the RAM in my laptop from 1gig to 4gigs, and I had an internet connection, albeit a lousy one. It wasn't until yesterday morning that after we had the Verizon FiOS network set up that my computer started having worse issues.

It would repeatedly connect and dsiconnect at very short intervals. It would allow me to click maybe three links and last a total of 20 seconds before it shut off and restarted again. Every other computer in the house had (and has) a perfectly good wireless connection.

After messing around with it for a bit, I ended up shoving all of my important data onto a USB flash drive like Noah's Ark and just flattened the whole system. After I reinstalled Vista, the problem was still there.

I browsed the internet for a bit (in those short bursts in which I could) and became fairly certain that the problem was an out of date network adapter driver. And so I downloaded and installed one for the Atheros AR5007EG (My network adapter). After I installed it, my laptop didn't event recognize the network card anymore. It won't even show up on Device Manager. It asked that I "install driver software for my ethernet controller".

And that's where I am right now. I'm using another computer to type this post with the one with the bum internet connectio... Read more

I just reformatted my Acer Aspire 5100 and installed a stripped version of XP. I like this version it gives me less lip and runs faster. Problem is, I know nothing about computers and I've been trying in vain for months to get this thing to recognize these drivers I've been installing, but with no luck. They seem to be the right drivers as they are the same drivers I find everywhere for an Acer Aspire 5100. This is seriously like pulling teeth guys, the driver recognizes that it's been installed, like when i try to install it again it goes to a modify/repair/uninstall menu but, like with the Audio driver, the computer registers nothing.

I've got no idea what to do, if someone could just please tell me whether it's just better to re-install another OS or how to fix this or whatever, the advice would be much appreciated.

If you have tried an external monitor (which you said you have) and nothing displayed on boot whilst plugged into the external monitor, I would say that the built-in video is bad. Hi Everyone,
I recently downloaded a ISO image of Vista SP2-32 bit from a member here in the forums. The computer I'm typing this message on is the one I put in the Thread/Question Title box, I couldn't get the file to download correctly..so I downloaded it on my newer computer that's running Windows 10. I burnt the ISO file to a blank DVD disc, I tried out the disc in the computer I created it on. The disc was read correctly, and the prompt appeared on my screen asking me if I wanted to boot from the disc..of course I didn't so I ignored it and just let windows 10 boot normally. I tried the same disc in my older acer computer and the light on the disc drive blinked off and on but I never received the screen prompt to boot from cd. Then the light went off and windows vista just booted up normally, I went into windows explorer and my cd/dvd drive is listed there, but evidently it's now defective. I inserted a store purchased/original music cd and thought it would start playing automatically, but it didn't..the drive indicator light blinked off and on like it did previously when I had inserted the iso file disc I had created on my other computer. So, I've ordered a replacement drive for my laptop..as I'm rather old fashioned..I don't like to give up on something, I would rather try and get it fixed.

Windows 7 Should Automatically Detect the hardware, or most of it. A good test before you blow the whole machine away would be to do a "dual boot" and see what you need to look for, if it doesn't detect everything.

My Acer Aspire 5100 Laptop will not boot up. It will stay in loading screen forever, and when i try and boot up in safe mode, it will stop at \Windows\system32\DRIVERS\AtiPcie.sys and do just stay there. My disk tray currently does not work and i do not have the recovery disk anyways. I have a second computer that i could download proper files to and save to my flash drive and transfer to the broken Acer if needed.

None of the options work when i press f5 or f8 when the first screen loads up. I've seen other threads with the same AtiPcie.sys problem, but i do not know how to delete this file if none of my menus work in the f8 thing (i.e. i do not know how to get to the command prompt to delete it).

If anyone could help me I would really appreciate it because i would like to be able to do my school work on the go (i do online schooling).

And now the left internal speaker might have blown out.
The issue is that I hear crackling.
I can hear some of the noise coming from it so it's not 100% dead, but the right speaker still works.

It's just scratchy and not very loud when I play music from the left speaker.
And so I was wondering if maybe I blew the speaker out, and if so....

I was wondering if there was a way to fix this easily. (Yes, sound drivers are fine and so are balances on stereo)

If not, would Acer cover this in their 1 year warranty?
I just bought it August 13th.
Damn Circuit City has the stupid 30 day return thing...
So I don't think they can take it back.

My Laptop is an older version.I added one GB memory to it and despite the added memory it runs very slow.Boots up slow and once up, it is very sluggish. All help sought with resolving the issue. My gratitude to all who will provide resolution.

A:A very very slow Acer Aspire 5100 laptop, running windows 7.

Do the following in that laptop so we have more information to work with.

Download and save the TSG System Information Utility (SysInfo.exe) to the desktop.
After it's been downloaded and saved, double-click it to run it.
Information about your computer will appear.
Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the ENTIRE text here.

I have an Acer Aspire 5100 laptop with Windows XP Media Center Edition. This past weekend, I tried to upgrade to 4GB of RAM. After replacing the old RAM sticks with the new, I am getting nothing but a black screen after turning on my laptop. The mouse and keyboard I usually keep plugged in the USB ports do not work. There is no sound, nor does any monitor that I've tried hooking up to my Acer display anything as well. I've tried every key combination I could come in mind with, but nothing works. I can't access the BIOS, nor anything else. The HDD indicator light flashes green for only a few seconds after powering up the laptop. I'm not for certain if the laptop keyboard is functioning either. I'm unable to turn the NUM LOCK on or off. The CD/DVD drive runs normally, I assume. I'm able to pop in a disc and can hear it running normally. I've also tried placing the old RAM I had previously used back in the laptop, but there is still no change.
I've run out of options and am curious if anyone here would be able to assist me. Your help is much appreciated.
Thank you.

If adding the old RAM doesn't change the way it behaves there is another issue.

When you added the RAM, did it involve stripping the laptop down? Or simply removing a cover on the underside of the laptop?

If it involved a strip down, it sounds to me like the video connector has been disturbed, or not been reconnected, hence you cannot see anything as the display is not powering up.

Obviously if you didn't strip it down there is another issue.

Hi All,
I have a friend at work with an Acer Aspire 5100 laptop running Windows Vista Home Basic and AVG Free Version.
Vista is running so slow it’s not funny. IE: to open the pictures folder will take about 45 – 130 seconds and then to open each photo it will take up to 3 minutes.
The first thing I could find is it only has 512mb RAM shared with the graphics card so I have ordered 2 x 2GB DDR2 667MHz RAM Sticks for her.
I should get them Monday or Tuesday.
Is there anything I should be looking for that would slow vista down so bad?
The other thing is that Acer have split the 80Gb HDD into 2 x 35Gb Partitions, I was thinking of reformatting the HDD back to just 1 x 78Gb Partition.
Does anyone have any theories on this matter?
Thanks for your help and comments

A:Acer Aspire VN7 Sound Problem

Get new drivers at: http://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers And download the correct driver for your system. Come back if that doesn't work.

First, CALM DOWN and look at my profile picture. Calm? Now post your message. If I helped, a Kudos would be great! Marking as solution will help others as well, thank you!

Wondering if anyone can help me. We have just bought a Acer Aspire X1301 pc to hook up to our tv via hdmi. When trying to play sounds, it?s all distorted and tinny. We?ve tried different hdmi cables, different slot on the tv and headphones (sound was fine). I?ve updated the sound drivers and chipset, is there anything that can be causing this? It?s driving me crazy

Have a video to show the error if required

Hello everyone, Lately, I am having a lot of problems with my sound. The sound of my Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-572G-7620 is very low even when I turned it to 100% volume. It has been going on for a few weeks already and today I updated my laptop but it did not help at all. There are no more updates; my laptop is up-to-date. I already checked the settings of my sound and there is no limited output on. The standard is Realtek High Definition Audio (SST). Anyone has a solution for this problem? If you need more information, just ask. Thanks already.. Regards, Redtje

I reformatted an acer aspire 5100 laptop.
I partitioned it.
I installed Win98SE on the first partition, installation went well apart from not booting at all.
Now whatever system I load or install, 98 or ME I can only access safe mode in ME. 2000 refuses to install. Is this laptop vendor software specific as the drivers dont seem to be accessed from any normal Win OS I install.

Is this still the accepted solution all these months later? (I found post from 2015 with a solution that involved uninstalling Intel drivers and reinstalling Realtek drivers and Intel Graphics Drivers. I don't know how to reference that discussion here.) Aspire TC-605 running Win 8.1. There are NO AMT Intel graphics driver as described in the solution and the Intel products that might be uninstalled are currently: Intel Control Center, Intel Graphics Driver and Intel Management Console Center. I can't find AMT-Intel_9.5.15.1730 and my Intel HD Graphics group is 4600.Problem, however, is the same - no sound from speakers. There are NO exclamation points on any devices in device manager.
