Preferred Solution: Adwcleaner keeps finding threats even though I reinstalled my Windows

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

While using AdwCleaner, it finds ask.com and aol.com search providers as potential threats.
Removing these using the "clean" option causes a Windows 7 reboot failure.
Using system restore to a previous date, a system error with a reference unable to restore malwarebytes.exe file appears.
At this point, I'm stuck in the loop.
Where am I going wrong?

Hi,

I was having some freezing/BSOD problem with a certain very important program and I ended up reinstalling windows. I did so from a USB flashdisk but after windows was installed a lot of drivers seem to be missing. The laptop is a custom build and I don't have the cd with all the drivers since the disk is still at home, which is across the Atlantic Ocean so getting that isn't an option either.

The most important driver that seems to be missing as far as I can tell at the moment is the network adapter driver. Device Manager isn't recognizing the following devices:
- Ethernet Controller
- Network Controller
- PCI Device
- SM Bus Controller
- USB Controller

Windows Update isn't finding any drivers for those devices and I can't download them manually either since I don't know what I need to be looking for.

Any help is greatly appreciated since I've already been 2 days out of commission with the previous BSOD problem before I reinstalled windows. Let me know if you need me to supply any other information.

Thank You.

Axel

I saw in another thread it was asked to upload a dxdiag file so I attached that.

A:Reinstalled Windows, need help finding the right drivers

Your Ethernet controller is from Realtek. Go to the Realtek support site and download the Communication Network->NIC controller Gigabit driver suitable for your OS to a flash drive. Then install from flash

I'm new here after screwing up my computer a few days ago using an anti-malware cleaner called RogueKiller.  While deleting the files in RogueKiller didn't initially cause problems, my computer eventually became disconnected from the internet after a "blue Screen event" and I had to restore my windows 10 to an earlier date.  I just ran AdwCleaner and here's the log file - I hesitate to delete ANYTHING after I had done so before and lost internet connection.  Please advise me the safest way to deal with these "threats" because I am not computer savvy when it comes to registry files - obviously after I screwed up settings that were needed to get online. I don't want to screw up again.

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and this is my first post. For a brief background, I'd like you all to know that I am not a very computer-savvy person and the first signs of malware/threats send me into a panic mode.

So here's the issue with my laptop. My laptop runs on Windows 10. This morning, I got a notification from Windows Defender that read "Found some malware. Windows Defender is removing it.". I thus opened Windows Defender, and found that in the History tab, under "All detected items" it showed me "Trojan:Win32/Dynamer!ac". I deleted it by clicking on "Remove all". The threat was shown to be removed. To check once again, I restarted my laptop. To my surprise, I received the same Windows Defender notification again, with the Trojan virus still intact. I tried to remove and restart a few more times, but the notification persisted each time my laptop restarted. I concluded that this was a recurring issue, so I googled to figure out ways to remove this virus completely. I stumbled upon a link which asked me to clean up using the following steps:
1. Run AdwCleaner and remove threats; reboot
2. Run MalwareBytes and remove malware; reboot if needed
3. Run Hitman Pro to remove any further undetected threats

I followed these steps. At every stage, the respective program displayed that the necessary action had been taken. Now, to verify that the virus had indeed gone, I ran AdwCleaner again. It showed me 4 registry threats. (Please see attached screenshot... Read more

I scanned my PC (Windows 8.1) with AdwCleaner and it found this stuff in my browsers:

-\\ Mozilla Firefox v30.0 (en-US)

[ Plik : C:\Users\zzz\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ulybqgjj.default\prefs.js ]

-\\ Google Chrome v36.0.1985.125

[ Plik : C:\Users\zzz\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\preferences ]

When I try to delete them, AdwCleaner removes them successfully but then they show up again in the next scan. Is this something to worry about? I'm not very tech savvy and wanted to be sure.

A:AdwCleaner keeps finding these two

Those two are not files that are removed. They are the locations in your 2 browsers that AdwCleaner scanned for adware.

we're all spending more & more time removing & fixing problems caused by malware/adware & the like.

my question to all is how many threats are you finding when you run adware on a pc the first time after installing it? what about with spybot?

i had a pc yesterday that had been on the internet while running norton internet protection suite (all of it turned on & fully rigged). installed and ran adware. it found 1401 threats. that was a new record for me; previous to that the most i'd ever come across was 685, and that was on a pc that had been completely unprotected.

what kind of numbers are all of you seeing?

Hi- I'm hoping you can help me.... I run Adwcleaner and keep getting the following result, even after cleaning and rebooting.  I have tried running combofix, norton power eraser, junkware removal tool, combo fix, Norton full system scan, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware with "rootkit scan" option checked, Sophos virus removal tool, Emsisoft Emergency Kit, Emsisoft online scanner,  Eset... .... and I'm sure more!!  Pretty much everything I could find on these forums.  The only software that detects this issue is Adwcleaner. All the other programs display "no viruses found."  Is it an issue?  Help!! Thank so much in advance.

A computer at my job has several pieces of adware on it, most notably the Premier Opinion adware. I ran Malwarebytes and AdwCleaner and BitDefender Free twice, but the adware seems to still be present. I am currently running Eset Online Scanner but it seems to crash at about 60%. Resource Monitor says Eset is running normally, but it does not respond and it's GUI elements get a black border around most of them, similar to when a program crashes and the GUI does not respond. When Eset "crashes" it reports 10 infections found. I turned off BitDefender free while Eset was running, since Eset warns of a conflict with it, but that may have caused the problem. I noticed something was wrong when I saw that the search engines AdwC deleted from Chrome were there again at the next scan. Same thing with Mbam, it found more after it had done its Threat Scan. I have every log AdwC and Mbam created.

It's been intermittently running slow. Crtl-Alt-Delete > Performance will show CPU usage at 99%-100%. I ran XoftSpy which came up with the following threats or high threats.
Vendor / Type / Category / Object

CWS.Googlems / Registry Value / Malware / Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\main/search bar

VX2 / Registry Value / BHO / Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\toolbar\webbrowser

What is the best way to deal with them? I could buy a XoftSpy licence for $40, but I am asking this question because every anti-virus or spyware programme seems to pick up different issues, so will any one safeguard me? Can I get rid of these without buying a licence, and what is my way forward? Thanks.

Please activate Debug Mode as follows so we can see a report which may be helpful with identifying the problem.Double-click on AdwCleaner.exe to open the tool.Click on Options in the top menu.Put a check mark next to Activate debug mode.Click on the Scan button.A logfile report called AdwCleaner_dbg_XXXX.log (where XXXX represents the time run) will be created and saved to %systemdrive%\AdwCleaner folder (usually C:\AdwCleaner).Copy and paste the contents of AdwCleaner_dbg_XXXX.log in your next reply.

Hello I hope you will be able to help me with this.
I ran ADWCleaner on a Windows XP SP3 machine and after the clean process it asked to restart the PC to complete but now XP does not start. It gets as far as the second (higher def) Windows xp startup screen and then just hangs with occasional HDD accesses and a responsive mouse pointer. It does the same in any of the safe modes and from the Last Known Good Config option.
So far I have ran chkdsk from the XP Recovery Console , it found some errors but that has not fixed the problem.
I have looked in system~1\_resto~1 directory and found there are no restore point directories listed.
I was about to try a manual registry restore but have found that there is no SYSTEM file in system32\config\ though there is a system.bak file
That is as far as I have got so far. Any help would be much appreciated.

Disable your antivirus program and go here http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html and run an online scan with BitDefender (you will need to use Internet Explorer for this scan). When the ActiveX Control has loaded, click on "Click here to scan". Please be patient, as this scan may take a few hours. It all depends on the number of files on your computer. When BitDefender completes the scan, select the "Detected Problems" tab. Click on "Click here to export scan". Save the file as an HTML to your Desktop. Then click on the saved file and allow it to open with your browser. Go to Edit - Select All then copy/paste that log back here. This is my first post here so here goes: I ran ADWCleaner on a Windows XP SP3 machine and after the clean process it asked to restart the PC to complete but now XP does not start. It gets as far as the second (higher def) Windows xp screen and then just hangs with occasional HDD accesses and a responsive mouse pointer. It does the same in any of the safe modes and from the Last Known Good Config option. Any help would be much appreciated.

A:ADWCleaner and Windows XP not starting problem

Replying to my own post with more information:
I have run chkdsk from the XP recovery console, it found some errors but has not fixed the problem.
From the recovery console I have looked in system~1\_resto~1 and found there are no restore point directories listed.
Any other ideas would be gratefully received.

Hi,
My computer was infected yesterday. The symptoms were: My browser Firefox was starting by itself and I was getting some kind ads. After this when I restarted computer I have got into Windows but just after few seconds it freeze and I cannot do anything.

I'm sending you some .logs to show what this application did it (OK, myself)

Please, help me to solve this problem because I really do not want to clean my computer and start everything from the beginning.

A:AVG detected threats, but I'm not sure they are really threats

The JS file type is primarily associated with JavaScript. When a browser runs an applet, the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) stores the downloaded files into its cache folder for quick execution later and better performance. Both legitimate and malicious applets (malicious Java class files) are stored in the Java cache directory and your anti-virus may detect them as threats. The detection can indicate the presence of malicious code which could attempt to exploit a vulnerability in Java which could be used to allow adware, phishing programs or other types of fraudulent software to be installed on a computer. For more information about Java exploits, please refer to Anti-Virus has detected a virus. Is it related to Java?.In your case, these .js files appear to be stored in the WindowsApps folder found on Windows 8.Notification of these files as a threat does not always mean that a machine has been infected; it indicates that a program included the viral class file but this does not mean that it used the malicious functionality.

Hello.

I just wish my first topic in these forums was not under these circumstances, but it appears my computer has a problem with multiple hundreds of items.

I was running an AVG Free Edition 2014 in a whole computer scan, and it found 571 threats - I tried to remove them after the scan was finished, but AVG did not allow me to remove these threats. Most of these threats were under some sort of listing such as Windows\Crypto\RSA\Machine Keys (or something like that - I have my AVG log posted later), but some had a different listing, which made me more fearful of my issue.

Under suspicion, I decided to boot my computer into Safe Mode and run another AVG scan (in Safe Mode) again in hopes of trying to remove these issues, but to no avail (aside from three medium threats it could eliminate). As a last resort, I have made a post here to request help. As my computer is a lifelink for me to do many things I will need to do in the future (I want to enter the job market soon, so having a secure computer would help me), I please ask for assistance in dealing with this issue.

My computer's specs:
Model: Acer Aspire 5254-BZ692 (Purchased early 2011); has 320 GB HDD (And that's all I know, as my sticker with the info on it has not stood the test of time very well)

I have Windows 8.1. My programs are now are exceedingly slow and Chrome won't do anything after opening. (I'm renting this hp Pavillion 20 All in one., but it's my SSD and OS). I uninstalled Norton suite (because of slowness) and wanted to use Adwcleaner per usual and the "smart" screen bar says it's not for Windows 8.1 and to contact the maker. I've never had an issue using it in the past.

Also, tried to reinstall Norton 360 Suite X2, after using the norton uninstaller,  but at the very end it spins and never finishes installation.  Used Symantic Erasure (with support) but without any significant results.  So I put in Iobit antimalware 3.0 and the latest Zone Alarm firewall. Any thoughts? All clear from the Iobit scan.

This is odd, but please don't bother with detailed advise about virus removal,I'll re image soon after I give this slow rental back)  But, I'd still like to use Adwcleaner. Hm. Thanks if anyone can give me an idea of what's happening. Erasure did the rootkit check too.   Rob

A:Suddenly, Adwcleaner per Windows 8.1 wrong type?

Hi Rob,From what I know, AdwCleaner is compatible with Windows 8.1. You can temporary disable SmartScreen if you need to run AdwCleaner. And also one piece of advice from me: Don't use IOBit products.Personally, I do not trust any company that creates so-called "optimization" products, bundles unwanted software into their installations and not allowing users to opt out, and stole intellectual property from other companies - in this case, database signatures from Malwarebytes Corporation.I recommend that you uninstall IOBit Malware Fighter and use a reputable AV software, along with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware or Emsisoft Anti-Malware for additional AM protection.Regards,Alex

I'm not the most computer savy person out there, so I've been struggling a bit with my laptop lately. (It's slowed down, particularly where internet is concerned.) Earlier today I encountered a problem where my laptop seemed to recognize mouse clicks where there were none, no matter how cuatious I was to make sure I wasn't accidentally hitting anything. I ran a scan with Norton, which only cleared a few tracking cookies, then tested AdwCleaner, which came up with this:

According to the only person I know who's taken the time to learn anything about computers beyond how to use them for entertainment and google, I shouldn't mess with anything in my registry. But when I ran a search of those first two items (which looked weird compared to the others) I came up with results about malware that takes bank info.

Should I let AdwCleaner take care of it? I don't want to screw up my laptop any further. I've also seen a few posts about malware that comes back easily, so would AdwCleaner be enough?

Hello, and I hope we can help. Those items are "generally" accepted as bad minor infections, and can be removed. Please download these to desktop, and Copy and Paste any logs. First - This is a "basic clean-up" and we will go further depending on your answers. Please download and run RKill by Grinler. A black DOS box will appear for a short time and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully. At most the tool will usually run for about 2 minutes Please Copy / Paste the small log back here. Important: Do not reboot your computer until you complete the next step. * NOW :* Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop. * Double-click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool. * Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator. * Click on the Scan button, only once for a good report * AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete. * After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R0].txt) will open in Notepad for review.* Check the removals and see if you are OK with the list. You can always Copy and Paste the SCAN log here if you wish -* Now * Click on the Clean button, only once for a good log. * Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts. * Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process. * After... The system I am using is an Acer Aspire with Windows 8 installed. Recently Avast has been detecting threats in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\explorer.exe.
This brings up constant popups by the notification tray that usually goes something like:

Object: (A .biz URL, one which I remember is dufeloveteuv.biz, there were one or two others as well, they always had pages extending from that base URL)
URL(I don't remember exactly what this field is named): Mal
Location: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\explorer.exe

It's killed all use of Internet Explorer (10), which whenever I open it brings up a window saying that Internet Explorer has been terminated because of a malicious addon (I checked the addons, there was nothing but Avast there), Chrome still works though.

So what do I do from here, I'm safely assuming that the laptop has been infected with something, but what is it, how would it have come about, and how do I remove it?

Hello,

I recently installed/run AdwCleaner v4.110 and let it delete some files and registry keys on my Vista pc. I was just trying to clean some traces of old/residual infections. Everything was fine prior to the install. Now windows explorer stopped working as well as my installed programs have selective start-up. Sometimes they start, other they wont.
Firefox would default to its home page, but I cant open anything further, no web search, simply unresponsive! Everytime I type web address or google search - nothing happens. As for IE, it shows "internet connection".
I tried to run/update Malwarebytes but it wont let me. I tried rebooting in Safe Mode but it did not help, I get the exact same issues as in normal mode. Another problem is that there are no Restore Points as I had System Restore turned off.

Hey all, first post and everything.
My little brother, brilliant boy that he is, installed some program that was supposedly a better Steam with better sales. Of course this program was littered with viruses. I proceeded to run Avast, which froze up and could not enable the firewall anymore. Then went into the Control Panel and uninstalled Wajak which was popping inappropriate ads all over everything and Steam. I saw that a program called One System Care was there as well, but I couldn't remove it off of the Control Panel.

Afterwards I ran adwcleaner and it removed One System Care and Lavasoft Web Companion. Unfortunately after that finished the computer lost access to the internet. It shows that it's connected to the Network, but neither ethernet and Wireless are working. I've tried:

- Checking the Internet Options to see if a Proxy was enabled.
- Checking if the DNS was messed with in the Network options.
- Ran Rkill.exe
- Ran MiniToolBox.exe
- Ran JRT.exe
- Flushed the ipconfig, ipv4, ipv6 in cmd.
- Reinstalling the Ethernet and Wireless drivers.
- Restarting the computer afterwards.

And none of that has helped. He is still unable to access the internet after all that. I'm out of ideas, hope you guys can help. Not sure what other information I can provide.

Type CMD in the search box Right Click > Run As Administrator.  Type the following then reboot.

Well, my last topic (found here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/574099/frst-logs-serious-trouble-with-my-win7-machine-no-idea-whats-going-on-help/#entry3688516 ) was closed while I was travelling, so I'm starting a new one. All relevant information about my problem can be found in the old topic, which was closed because I didn't reply quickly enough. I followed the user nasdaq's advice and ran the fixlist.txt file with FRST, then ran AdwCleaner. Attached are all my logs, text files and such. Please let me know if there is any other relevant information I can provide.
Update: as of right now, this did not fix my problem. The computer is still unable to update, is still randomly freezing and crashing, and every time I restart the MSE service is missing even if I replace it before restart. The time also keeps getting set one hour faster every restart.

First, let me state that I`m already being assisted by a member, however the topic started in the Malware section; I believe someone with expertise in Windows XP would be very useful as we seem to be running out of options.

the topic can be found here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/573199/pop-ups-malware-and-unwanted-redirects-adwcleaner-trouble-as-well/?view=getnewpost
In short, I used adwcleaner incorrectly and cleaned critical sections of XP....I`m not exactly clear what those sections were but my functions where certainly compromised. I asked for help and was receiving assistance, but things went from bad to worse when I was told to uninstall my browser...under normal circumstances this would not have been a problem, I believe. Yet, with the compromised XP I seemlingly have no way to reinstall any browser. (I`m currently at a internet cafe and have been using my Iphone)

Moreover, the restoration function and administrative functions all seem to be compromised, so we cannot seem to undo what we`ve done.

I`m requesting assisantance from anyone with experiance with XP, at this point my main goal is to simply restore the PC and or reinstall a Browser.

Regards, and much thanks

Sheldon

Hey, I've never actually asked my own question on one of these forums before, but this is becoming a problem that really needs fixing.

I've been able to fix adware problems on my friends', family's and my own computers before with Adwcleaner and it has always worked quite successfully, until I got a Windows 10 computer. Now when I try and run the 'Clean' function, I get the blue screen of death with the words 'Critical Process Died Error', and I haven't found a way to get around it.

Could anyone please help me - is it just an incompatibility with Adwcleaner and Windows 10 or is there a way to fix this?

The Adwcleaner works with my Windows 10 you need to install latest version of device drivers.Install all important Windows updates.Update your programs.Open Command Prompt as a administrator and type Sfc /Scannow to repair any damage Windows system files. You can ask help at Windows Crashes, BSOD, and Hangs Help and Support forum.

I used the Dell CD that came with a Dell Inspiron 1300 Laptop to reinstall Windows since it was not loading. I did not tell it to format my drive. My programs are all in the programs file but not in the start menu. I used a different username then I had before - so I can find all my files in the documents and settings file under the old username. Can I change the current username to the old one too restore that information - or what is the best solution. I am more worried about keeping my Outlook information. I tried opening Outlook but it tells me that it cannot open because it was not the right user.

A:Reinstalled Windows

You may be able to access the files (if you can see them) by taking ownership of them, How to take ownership of a file or folder in Windows XP - http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=308421 Louis
