I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: No sound on start-up, Win8 needs time to output sound

For start up sound go to personalize>sounds>at bottom of box place a check for "Play Windows Startup sound. With a laptop you probably are using realtek HD sound driver... you could look in task manager and see if it is turned on at startup, also in event viewer>windows logs>system and look at the time when you booted and see if there are any audio errors.

Hi guys,

Problem - Installed Win 7 Pro x32 this week, and i want to output sound on my monitor and tv at the same time. I have a monitor hooked up via VGA and a TV via HDMI on the same graphics card.

At present only way to change sound output is using the playback devices control to switch when needed which is a pain i must say. Had this working on vista but cant remember how. (fluke i think)

Any help appreciated! cheers

A:output sound at the same time on 2 displays

You should be able to disable a monitor's audio via the buttons on your monitor.
VGA does not have an audio signal, HDMI does.

I have a rather cheap and poor quality Trust 5.1 surround system and a rather awesome View Quest SonicDock.

While my current, best, computer was away being repaired, I wired up all the speakers in a rather complicated manner which enabled me to have c/sub, the two front side speakers, and the SonicDock output simultaneously, at maximum volume. However, the read side speakers never worked with that cabling and I thought they had both died until I got this computer back and connected the surround properly.

Why do I want the audio to output through two sets of speakers at the same time? The subwoofer from the surround set is awful. The SonicDock produces some literally desk-shaking bass.

So, the computer has the following audio ports:
(rear)
in (blue), out (green), mic (pink), c/sub (orange), rear (black), side (grey)
(front panel)
mic (pink), headphones (green)
Basically, I don't WANT surround. My room isn't big enough and the speakers can't be strategically positioned, I just want the maximum sound output. I.e. I don't want WMP to just be sending audio to the front speakers, I want sound to come out of all the speakers, even if it's just stereo sound but through all 6/7 speakers.
I've fiddled with all the Realtek HD Audio manager settings and can't get it to work how I want it to. When I tried stacking earphone splitters and connecting the four speaker cables into that stack and plugged into the rear green out port, it didn't work as intended.

I think what I'd like to do... Read more

A:I'd like to have sound output through 2 sets of speakers at same time

First off, I use a Trust 5.1 surround system and I bought it knowing that I was getting what I paid for :I

But on to your problem, with Realtek it is easily possible to output to two sets of speakers at once (as long as your dock has a single 3.5mm for input).
Unfortunately I don't have Realtek anymore since I bought my X-Fi so I'm going purely from memory here. In the Realtek control panel (accessible through Windows control panel), there is the ability to toggle front panel audio concurrently with your normal, rear port audio. Luckily Google has a far better memory than I.

by clicking "Device advanced settings" in the Realtek HD Audio Manager and then clicking "Make front and rear output devices playback two different audio streams simultaneously"

i want to output sound through my digital output and through my front jacks at the same time, i.e while watching a movie through my digital output (monitor i.e video extended to my tv) and playing a game at the same time (game on my LCD), with sound coming out my front sound jack for the game. so basically in a nut shell, i want to watch movies and play games at the same time, while the respective sound comes through different outputs.

A:how do you output sound through digital and front jack at same time

I don't think you can currently do that with Vista (I certainly can't, anyway).

I find that I have to reconfigure my laptop every time I want to play a DVD through the HDMI port and then reconfigure it again when I've finished. I've seen many others posting about the same issue.

I am getting a laptop. Right now I am deciding between regular "High Definition Audio 2.0" and a "ExpressCard Sound Blaster X-Fi Laptop Sound Card with Wireless Receiver Bundle". The latter is 134 dollars more. Would the latter make the output of sound better on external speakers. Say if you're a DJ, and you use the laptop, would the sound coming out of the speakers at those high volumes be much better if you have the better soundcard? Or does it not have any effect on the output sounds? Thanks!

It's the most suspicious sound I've ever heard. It sounds exactly like fat, felt tip marker making a quick check on paper. It can also be compared to a rat sniff or a piece of paper being turned. I wear headphones and can hear this noise occasionally for up to 15 minutes. It likes to happen at night, when 'they' are active ( humor me ). Because of the sneaky, low volume, discreet, low down, creepy, stalky, shifty sound I am disposed to imagine that someone is looking through my files for credit information and they are unaware of these sounds from my sound card, or they don't care about the sound because they are safe from being caught.

Sound like I'm crazy? Just paranoid. I did say it makes me imagine. The kind of person I am is the same kind that will run system restore at a moment's notice for anything that looks suspicious or a NoScript violation. Because that sound is clearly designed to resemble a sniffing rat doing something sneaky on my computer. I tried to record the output with Audacity 1.3, but it had stopped before I had recorded anything.

My setup:

Windows XP Pro 64 bit Service Pack 2
Verizon High Speed Internet
Marvell Yukon 88E8056 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller
LinkSys Router routing to a Windows 7 laptop, WPK-PSK, TKIP
Soundblaster Live!
Avast!
SUPERAntiSpyware
NoScript
Mozilla FireFox

A:Solved: Suspicious sound coming from sound card output.

It was that Windows XP search dog. When you ctrl + f to open the search side bar in a window there is an animated dog that seems innocuous. Every 15 minutes or so it will scratch itself and make that noise twice. As long as that search side bar is open, minimized or not, that noise will persist.

A:How can I get sound output from sound card when streaming video?

Hello green,

You get sound from your microphone? I don't think I am understanding. Sound should come from your sound card. You plug the speakers into the back of the computer and into the sound card (green jack). The mic receives sound. My mic is USB so it doesn't use any jack other than the USB port, but if you use the sound card, it goes into the purple jack

Do you have the audio driver installed? This should be right: http://support.acer.com/product/defa...x?modelId=2192

GA-890GPA-UD3H (rev. 3.1)

GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket AM3+ - GA-890GPA-UD3H (rev. 3.1)

(Note 3) Simultaneous output for DVI-D and HDMI is not supported.

What I'm trying to do is output just my sound to the receiver via HDMI cable, but still use the DVI to my monitor for video. From the note above taken from the MB specs, sounds like this is not possible.

This is new business to me and wondering how others do this, seems little information I can find. I am ordering a HDMI to DVI cable so I can disconnect the DVI cable from the computer and instead run both video and sound through HDMI to the receiver, then the video to the monitor. Hoping this works.

If all fails then I am relegated to separate digital through S/PDIF optical link, to my receiver. According to the experts this is less than ideal since now, the multi-channel dolby and DTS signals can only be received via HDMI.

Wondering if I get a Blu-ray player for my computer how this is going to all work out. Hoping that HDMI to DVI cable does the trick.

Anyone with experience with this kind of set-up and the aforementioned hardware greatly appreciated.

And Happy NEW YEAR!

A:Gigabyte HDMI output to Yamaha receiver - no sound output

As you have a separate video card, its capabilities should determine how the video works, not the motherboard. The video is routed to the video card.

If you had some type of integrated Video on the motherboard then the motherboard's specs would apply. For example, I have an Intel i7 3770 CPU and this model has built in Intel HD4000 video which is routed to motherboard video connectors and thus the motherboard would determine how the video is distributed. However, I'm using a separate video card and thus that determines how video is distributed.

Hello everyone, after using Windows 7 Ultimate on my laptop for almost 2 years I decided to upgrade to Windows 8. The first day it was working fine,no problems at all. The other day I disconnected my USB mouse and it would keep on playing the disconnect sound, however, I solved that issue. Recently since yesterday whenever I would start my laptop and login, the windows start up sound won't play. It plays once I connect any one usb device to the laptop, but it will play the default usb connected sound with the latter devices. I ticked the 'play windows sound on start up' at the sound properties. Some help would be really appreciated.

A:Windows 8 start up sound plays at the wrong time.

What sound driver do you have installed? If you just have the Microsoft installed generic HD Audio Codec instead of the correct sound driver from your PC vendor that could be the problem.

Also, please fill in the "My System Specs" so we know what hardware you have and what we are dealing with.

Hi

Does anyone know where I can get or compare samples of music online that range from the best quality to the average so that I can perhaps decide what is best for me. Some background - I have the remnants of a half decent Hi-Fi system with a decent amp and speakers and have a quality sound card for the computer (Creative SB X-Fi Titanium HD) and after having listened to vinyl for decades I hope I can still appreciate the difference between good and average quality even at my age. I gather that EAC is thought of as perhaps the best option for ripping CDs and would like to know if it is worth the effort over simpler methods. From what I have gleaned from various forums it is essentially down to your own hearing ability. The storage aspect doesn't bother me as I don't tend to play my music on mobile devices that much.

Thanks for any help.

A:Sound samples before I start ripping - wouldn't want to waste my time

A "wav" file is a full fidelity file. Any compressed type file, e.g. MP3, FLAC or whatever is "something less than full fidelity". How much less depends on the compression. I don't know of anyplace that has a comparision between different file formats. The best option would be to make them yourself and then compare to see if you want to use one of the compressed formats or stay with the full fidelity wav file.

Another thing to consider, if you convert a wav file to some compressed format, you cannot recover the full fidelity if you convert it back to a wav file; it will be at the fidelity of the compressed file.

The "best" option obviously is the wav format.

I have a computer based recording studio.

Hello, I used to have Vista on this computer and didn't have audio problems. I've upgraded to Windows 7 and use the latest drivers available for my sound card (Striker 7.1). I have also tried not using these drivers and instead using a USB sound card (Sennheiser that comes with one of their headsets).

My problem is that, some time after booting up my computer, the audio starts skipping/glitching every ~30 seconds (if not more). This will usually happen with almost 100% frequency after the computer goes into sleep mode. A reboot fixes this for some time and then it starts over. This happens with all audio sources (moves in VLC, music in iTunes, youtube, etc.)

I have absolutely no idea what could be causing this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

A:Sound skips after some time (tried diff. sound cards)

This is apparently a fairly common problem in windows 7. Just google these forums for 'audiodg.exe', and you'll see tons of other people reporting the exact same thing.

I have the same problem and my solution ended up being to write a cmd script I can launch that runs

Code:
net stop audiosrv
net start audiosrv
This shuts audiodg.exe down and starts it back up. Sad part is I have to run this anywhere from every 10 to 30 minutes. Extremely annoying.

Hi!

I broke my Headphones port so I cannot use it anymore. But I'm a musician and need it crucially. So I thought to use one of other two ports (FOR HEADPHONE SOUND OUTPUT SIGNAL) I have left: one for Line in and one for Mic in.

My sound card is High Definition Audio (at least I see this in System->Devices).

Can I do this with any type of program or something else? How can I redirect headphone output signal onto Mic in or Line in ports? Thanks to all people who might help!

P.S. saw a lot of people looking for how to record their output using mic in. My case is different, I just want to use one of other two ports like sound outputs instead of my broken headphone port.

A:Redirect sound output port to sound input port

Surprised that you can get much of anything done with the default Windows audio driver, that provides about just enough functionality to to get sound. That is why it is show as a "high definition audio device". You need to install the proper driver for it to begin with and then there might be the possibility of jack assignment. Without it though it won't happen.

And no we can't tell you what you need for a sound driver as your specs don't list what your motherboard is, which is needed to tell you which driver assuming you are using onboard sound.

Hi,

I'm a college student with a desktop computer. Whenever I come home, I leave my speakers at school.

I used to have Windows Vista. When I'd come home, I could listen to music without headphones or speakers. In other words, sound would come from my sound card.

I now have Windows 7, which will only play sound when I have headphones or speakers. How can I enable Windows to let sound play from my sound card when I don't have any other means of output?

A:Sound Output

Normally, desktops do not have speakers. If yours does, it's not the usual configuration on a desktop. Best to checkwith HP to see what you need to do, as you may need some special HP audio software to get it to work.

I've worked on several HP desktops and none of them had internal speakers.

I'm 100% sure its in the output jack, I also tryed hooking up my headphones to the card and I got that buzzing noise in the headphones too. I didn't hot plug the speakers, and theres nothing wrong with them I have been listening to them all day through my cd player so there has to be some hardware problem. I messed around with the settings and nothing changed. I have rebooted my computer several times and messed with the connection jacks to my amp and still no change. I just used the output jack the other day when watching a dvd and it worked fine. The only thing that would effect the system that I've done to my computer since I watched the dvd is that I ran windows disk defragmenter and I got an error lke 30 seconds after the screen saver came on(I forgot to disable it). Usually when any piece of audio electronics has that irritating buzzing sound with faint music in background a physical ground is missing or a leak to ground has occurred.
You may have developed a problem in your audio card or with external connections.
Make sure all you physical connections to the card are good.
You may also want to remove the card from you PC and clean all the contacts on the card and reinsert.
After all above is tried you may want to remove the audio card from device manager and reinstall all your drivers.
If reinstalling and cleaning all contacts does not solve the problem you may have a defective card.

The speaker inside the case is used to emit the POST beep to let you know the computer hardware has passed the test and can boot. It does not play sounds from Windows or your audio. The Green plug is the Speaker out for your computer.
Boot into Setup (Bios) and make sure the onboard Audio is Enabled. At bootup you should get the new hardware wizard. You may need to download the driver from the Motherboard manufacturer If you don't know the model # of the motherboard then download Speccy and it will tell you the info you need.

A:Win8 64 bit no sound on headphones jack

First, the sound driver from the PC vendor, Toshiba in this case, is the preferred and full featured driver. The generic Windows installed HD Audio codec is only a basic function driver.

Toshiba Satellite C660 Windows 8 Drivers | Toshiba Drivers | Satellite, Satellite Pro, Portege, Equium, Qosmio, Tecra, Libretto Downloads

I see this has RealTek sound. Many RealTek drivers include a RealTek HD Audio Manager and depending on what Toshiba includes this could include the configuration of the headset jack.

I've just done a clean install of windows 7 x64 onto a new hd, all drivers are installed including the sound driver but I get no sound output to the speakers.

The soundscard is an onboard Realtek ALC662 HD Audio codec, I've tried the Microsoft driver as well as downloaded the latest Realtek and Gigabyte Azalia drivers. They all install fine but produce no output.
I have also tried installing an old Creative Audigy2 PCI card, this also installs fine but produces no output.

I had previously had Windows XP installed on this hardware and sound worked fine. I have also plugged the speakers into an adjacent system and they work fine. Plugging my old HD back in and booting XP the sound works fine.

It looks like a Windows7 issue, anyone have any ideas on what to try next?

Some realtek sound drivers are known to be unreliable. You may have to try mutiple different sets of drivers until you find one that works for you. One of the best ways to do this is to go to your OEM website and download their drivers. If you built the computer yourself, just go to the Realtek website.

Hello all,
I am new to the forums and my laptop. However I have one question about my sound,

Is it possible to take the sound from my laptop without is passing though my laptops DAC (Digital to Analauge converter) and feed the sound into the DAC on my Cyrus CD player 6XP (2010 Edition) and then onto my amplifier, so I can experenice the higher quality from the CD players DAC rather than my computers.

The ports I have on my laptop are:

1x Headphones out
3x USB
1x Card Reader
1x Microphones In
1x VGA out
1x Network out

Thanks

Short answer ... probably not.

However, there are some high quality dacs on the market that will connect to your computer by USB or Firewire and deliver mind blowing good sound... There's a lot of them and at a very wide range of prices, so do some google searches....

But do let me caution you... unless you have exceptionally good audio gear the audible improvements are likely to be lost to plastic speaker boxes, weak power supplies and poorly designed sub-woofers....

DAC vs Soundcard on high end gear such as McIntosh Audio... "WOW"
DAC vs Soundcard on $199 home theater in a box... "Why did I waste my money".

Hi all, so I've been trying to figure out what's going on with this acer 5520 amd 2ghz, 3gb laptop.

Basically this is what I've checked and done: drivers updated, bios updated/re installed re seated all internal components I.e: cd drive, ram, hdd . Fresh install of vista, win 7 and finally xp pro. Still no sound on any of them. Now I noticed the cd/dvd drive isn't picked up in my computer but it does open and spin a disk as if its pre loading the cd.

Sound is very intermittent when booting up the machine 9/10 it doesn't work.

Any idea's?

Thanks in advance

Are there any motherboard chipset drivers for this unit? If there are, install them, restart the PC and then reinstall the Acer sound drivers (not the sound chip vendor sound drivers) and see if that helps. I had an Acer 7720 model and I tried the generic RealTek (the sound chip on the 7720) and they did not work correctly. I installed the Acer supplied drivers and no more sound problems.

Also in Vista/Win 7 make sure your "speakers" are set as the default "Playback" device in the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound Panel. I don't remember how that is setup in XP (remember this is a Windows 7 forum, not a Windows XP forum).

i would like to be able to record my dj sets i use my laptop for. i do not want to use cables to route sound from my headphone output to my mic input.

i have tried right clicking the volume icon>adjust audio properties, clicking the audio tab, then clicking the volume button under 'Sound Recording'

when i do this Microphone is the only option i have to record with. When i click the options>properties, there isn't even any other options for me to select in this window under recording...

I'm using my SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio card on my intel MOBO, it has an output jack for your headphones, and an input for your mic. I'm using my CD/RADIO to listen to the radio at work, is there a way to plug in the AUX cable into the MIC hole on the soundcard to get the radio to play through my soundcard and into my headphones? Does that make sense?

I recently got a mic and when i play games and try and talk to my friends from teamspeak all the noise from the game comes through the mic really loudly so they can't hear me and its just noise from the game. This happens even when i turn my speakers and headphones totally off and put volumes to lowest. The only thing i can do to fix it is turn the volume off totally off in the game, but then i can't hear anything, even if its on very slightly it comes through to my friends computer like a fog horn.

I use AC'97 OnBoard audio anyone know how to fix this problem i tried everything i have the latest drivers and set everything to mute except wave sound main volume and mic and the problem persists. I set all the drop down tabs to microphone and headset but this doesn't make a difference.

please help

This issue is hard to explain, maybe there is a term for it, I'm not sure. When listening to mp3s through my computer (with headphones) running vista, for some reason the computer tries to make up for loud parts by making the overall volume softer. It sounds really irritating listening to the volume vary every time there is a loud part to the song.

This problem seems not to happen on my XP installation, just Vista (dual-booted comp).

A:Sound output issue

It's called "Volume Leveling." As far as I know, thats not a Vista feature. Does your soundcard have its own software that could be enabling it?

My Mom got her PC repaired at a crappy shop. He tricked her into changing the sound card as a problem to the slow speed of the PC.
But, he installed a good one(Creative SB Live! series)
(He Didn't gave her the box of the same)

Now, The problem is that it is giving out extremely low output.
I have checked the system sound control. But i cant find Why the hell it is giving such a low output.

I installed the latest drivers by Driver_Easy(Because i couldn't find the drivers at the site).

Help please.

Going by the DevID in that screen shot it is the Dell version of the Live 5.1, which doesn't work with the regular Live drivers. For that card (at least on XP) you need the one here,

Creative Worldwide Support > Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 Digital (Dell)

Click on the Driver link to show them all and the one you want is,

(Dell) Driver Install Pack 2 – 10 Languages
File Name : SBL5DL_DRVPACK_LB.exe

Hi all.

I am using Nvidia HDA as my sound system with my screens, recently the new patch (March 1st) for windows solved my screens from blacking out, however, when I switch on, the sound changes to the other screen. (Seems to be once every day)

I have found a workaround which is keep everything enabled and it should set itself to default.

Still annoying however, I disable everything else that I am not using, to prevent conflicts.

(Note... I had first posted this in hardware, then decided to move here.)
This seems to be my week for mysteries.

Last evening, I noticed I was not getting sound from my speakers... nothing... systems sounds, MP3's, etc. I checked the obvious things like volume control, mute, etc. All good.

This morning, after a reboot, same thing.

If I play something and crank the volume WAY up, I can faintly hear it.

I've checked everything I know to, but feel I'm missing something. This change happened abruptly with no other changes. I would think that if the sound card went south, I would hear absolutely nothing. This is like a level setting thing... that I can't find.

Ideas appreciated.

A:Solved: Sound Output Way Down... Nearly Off

Solved!

I did a complete power down / power up and all is well now.

Must have been some sort of reset.

Wish I had a more technical answer than that.

Ok, so here's my problem:

I need to voice chat, but I it doesn't play my voice. As the title sais, the sound output from my speakers goes directly in the input for my microphone. And I don't want that... How do I fix this?

I have Realtek HD audio onboard, if that helps..

Sorry for my bad English,
Marty

Hi, does anyone know what could be causing this problem on my dads computer. He's running a 64bit windows 7. Every now and then , only for a second maybe a few more the sound will distort and sound kinda tinny. It happens every half hour or so in an irregular pattern.

He has reinstalled windows and the problem has lessened (to the degree mentioned above). This just came out of the blue a week or two ago, it's never happened before and he has no new hardware in.

Any help appreciated.

Hey all,

I have a problem with the HDMI output on my laptop. I've tried to research the problem and for the most part the answer is to set the default playback device to the HDMI output. I do this, and even when I click the 'Test' button, the bell rings through the speakers of the TV, along with other system noises like error popups. However, when I try to watch movies or listen to music there is no sound from the TV. I can even be playing a song, press the 'Test' button, and it rings just fine.... but no music. It's making me and I need some help!

A:No Sound on HDMI Output to TV

I solved this by going in to the sound options on my computer (which you can access in your control panel or right click bottom of desktop speaker) then set your sound default as HDMI. thats what i did worked a treat
