Q: Upgrading CPU for HP Pavilion dm1 Notebook PC

Hello,I tried to search the cpu upgrade information by following the instructions the website gave me. And I got lost since there's no cpu upgrade information link. I tried to search my motherboard's specification for upgrading the cpu, but I'm totally out of idea how. So, here's the informations about my laptop. Is it possible for me to upgrade my cpu? If so, what kind of CPU would you recommend? thank you.Operating System : Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bitSystem model : HP pavilion dm1 Notebook PC (HP Pavilion dm1-3206au Entertainment )BIOS : InsydeH20 version CCB.03.60.43F.12Processor : AMD E-350 (2CPUs) 1.6 GhzRAM : 6GBSo, I wonder what kind of CPU match for my computer's specifications. If there's anything else you need, let me know. Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,I'm afraid that there is only one supported processor for the laptop. The E-350 one. I have got a DM1 maintenance and service guide and according to this there no other processors except the E-350..

Hey,  Wanted to upgrade the CPU (and/or) GPU of my HP Pavilion 15 laptop and wanted to know if the components are hard-soldered in (making it incredibly difficult) and if they are, where/what motherboard I can find to upgrade/replace what I have currently. (Not sure what model my current motherboard is) CPU: Intel Core i5 5200U @2.2GHzGPU: Intel HD 5500RAM: 16GBOS: Windows 10 Am hoping to upgrade to a 6th gen with NVidia or really anything better than what I have right now. Open to suggestions and though price is an issue I'd rather hear the possibilities and make a decision based off that. Buying a new notebook is something I really don't want to do. Thanks!

I have an HP Pavilion dv5 Notebook, Model No. 2074dx. A friend of mine recently upgraded the RAM in his Dell Inspiron and it was very simple - he just removed one screw from the RAM compartment on the bottom of the case to gain access. We thought it would be just as easy to access the RAM compartment on my notebook, but there are no screws anywhere on the bottom of the case.

I have spent a lot of time trying to find instructions, but have been unsuccessful. I looked through the manuals relating to my HP notebook, but didn't find any relevant information. I did not find any instructions on the HP website and HP charges for telephone support. I even searched through YouTube, but found nothing helpful. I did find a website called "Inside My Laptop," which has an article titled "How to remove keyboard, replace memory and access hard drive in HP 2133 Mini-Note PC." While this article concerns a different HP model from the one I have, I found a reason to believe that these instructions might apply to my notebook. The article indicates that after you remove the battery, you will find three screws in a specific place in the battery compartment that need to be removed to begin the procedure. I found three screws in the same place in my battery compartment. I really need to confirm that these instructions are applicable to my notebook as the article warns that it is possible to damage the motherboard to the extent that it would have to be replaced by a new one... The Maintenance and Service Guide for the DV5-2074dx does indeed include the location and method to access to memory modules in the laptop, check out page 50 of the manual.

Link to the HP site for manuals for the DV5-2074dx: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=4278971&

Also, simply removing a few screws would not damage the motherboard, but what can damage the board is static electricity once the panel is removed exposing the board and slots so be sure to discharge any static electricity before handling the parts.

Adding anything internally into a laptop is not only risky, but usually not possible unless done by the factory. Depending on what it is, it is most likely not upgradeable. The only things that are generally easily accessible on a laptop are the ram, the drives, and the expansion slots.

I've had my notebook for about two and a half years now and its starting to run slow and lag often. I noticed that the cpu usage when just browsing the internet is around 50%, when watching a movie around 70%, and when playing a video game or using a big program around 90%. The notebook has a relatively slow cpu speed (1.2GHz). Is it possible to put a new cpu in my notebook without replacing the motherboard as well? It also has 4gb of RAM which I am going to upgrade to 8gb soon. I don't really have money to buy a brand new notebook so I was just looking for ways to upgrade my current pc. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I'm not answering your specific question. I personally would wait until I could afford a full notebook upgrade.
But these tips may help your performance:
Optimize Windows 7

At the risk of being strung up, one of Windows 8 virtues apparently is to help low power PCs performance.

Laptop graphic chips are soldered directly to the motherboard. What you got from HP is what you are stuck with. You can only change the CPU and memory.

Hi guys,

I've recently installed a wireless network at home so that my partner and I can share our broadband connection and files. Now that works perfectly, no problems there.

Only, he has a Dell Latitude CP M233XT from like 10 years ago or something it's so ancient. However, it works fine and it'll do for generall internet and word processing matters...for now.

I was just wondering whether you can buy bigger, better hard drives for these laptops and more RAM. I was looking on ebay and the like for RAM upgrades but nowhere in the UK seems to sell them, altho Memory X (I think it was called) could sell me a 64MB module, but then it would have to be flown over here (UK) and I'm completely clueless on hard drives, whether I'd have to get a Dell one or whether a better (not massive, only like 20gig needed) faster hard drive could be put in no problem. Just want it to run that little bit quicker, as the hard drive is slightly slow and there's only about 4gig of space on it anyway.

Any help would be much appreciated. I just want to upgrade this ancient laptop to a better speed, just for general university work and internet surfing, apart from that it's fine. Don't want to shell out a few hundred ££s for a new laptop if I can upgrade this one for a fraction of that.

Thanks anyone.

A:Re: hp pavilion 15 notebook Usb 3

Hi, It is great to upgrade system to Windows 10, but in the same time, series of issues occur, like the USB device issue. After upgrading the system to Windows 10, you find that your USB device cannot connect to your PC. You may need to plug your external devices like MP3, pen drive, printer, etc. to your computer through the USB ports. So it is very inconvenient that the USB ports don?t work properly. Solutions below may help you fix the USB port issue. Since your USB device works properly before you upgrade the system, the problem most probably is not caused by the USB device. But you can also plug the USB device to another computer. If it unfortunately doesn?t work, you can consider replacing the device. Following are the solutions to figure out the problem. Solution 1: Check if the problem is caused by power supply issue 1. Unplug the power supply and charger plug from your PC.2. Restart your PC. Connect your USB device to the PC again. Then you can plug the power supply.Solution 2:The Power Management would also be the cause of the USB problems. Windows is set to shut down your USB controller to save power by default, sometimes it won?t be able to power it back up. So try following steps to prevent Windows from ?managing? power to your USB controller or the devices.1. Open Device Manager.2. Expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers branch.3. Double-click the USB Root Hub device, and click the Power Management tab. (if there?... Read more

My stepson has an HP Pavilion dv1000 notebook. The power supply gets extremely hot and seems to be melting the tip to the plug where it connects to the notebook. Does this seem to be a problem with the notebook or only with the power supply. Any help would be appreciated.

A:HP Pavilion notebook

wow that is pretty hot... does it always run that hot, or does it only run that hot when he's gaming, or watching a movie? could just be a demanding laptop, but then again you could take it to a PC specialist (comp usa or local computer shop) and get the powersupply checked out. dang if it's melting the tip thats pretty hot... My dad's apple powerbook gets up to 75 degrees celcius when he's just surfing the web and stuff, so hot you have to take it off your legs if you don't want to burn yourself. so get it checked out, might just be a demanding laptop.

I also installed HP support assistance for further assistance to make sure everything work just okay. Things to describe here, everything works absolutely fine without the built in Micro issue for Audio device. It is litterally not working to input audio anymore here. i got a pavilion w5220la with a p4 516 processor (2,93ghz)
i want to upgrade the processor, so i found this on hp site:

this is the motherboard:
Motherboard specifications table
Motherboard description Motherboard manufacturer's name: MSI MS-7174
HP/Compaq name: Graphite-GL8E

CPU/Processor Socket: 775
Supports the following processors
Pentium 4 600 series
Pentium 4 with HT
Celeron D

Front-side bus (FSB) 800 MHz (Pentiums)
533 MHz (Celeron D)

Chipset Northbridge: i915GV
Southbridge: ICH6

Searching on intel site, i found some p4 processors but i dont know wich one the best of them ,

-Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor Extreme Edition Supporting Hyper-Threading Technology
(Processor, Pentium 4 Extreme Edition 3.4GHz, 512KB L2 Cache, 2MB L3 Cache, 800 MHz Front Side Bus) this is the best for my mobo i think beacause is the only one with 800 mhz fsb , there are better processors but with 1066 mhz fsb, i think they woulndt fit right?

-Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor Supporting Hyper-Threading Technology ?
(p4 670 or 672 running at 3,8 ghz, 2mb L2 cache and 800 mhz fsb this is the faster here.)

First i want to know if my mobo will support the p4 extreme edition 3,4 ghz, second if the p4 extreme edition is way better than the p4 672 3,8ghz.

Thanks for the help

Is probably your best choice, but if I was you I would actualy build a new computer instead of upgrading a old one, Saves you from upgrading all the parts ( which could add up to alot of money because the Manufacture's website sometimes doubles or triples the price of the part so you pay more )

If you go on Newegg you could probably find the same part for cheaper then the manufacture's website

Hope I helped

Hi all,

I wanted to get some suggestions on upgrading ram in a HP Pavilion dv6. Possibly going to SSD harddrive also.

The system currently runs on Intel I5 on 6gb of ram. Can this be doubled? Limitations?

(Right now is shows I'm using 85% of its memory, and less than 20% of the CPU.)

Any standard ATX one will do with a 24pin motherboard connection and a 4 pin CPU connection. Both those should come as standard.

So I'm going to upgrade the default HDD on my laptop HP Pavilion DV6 2153.eo. There are two things that I'm not so sure of tho.

1. Can I get a SATA/III SSD HDD and throw it in the laptop <- are the SATA/III SSD HDDs backward compatible with/to SATA/II

2. What HDD should I get, it should at least be something like 180Gb but then also the price shouldn't be sky high...and then ofc I should also be able to get it here in north Europe

P.S. I'm also going to get more ram...is there anything else that can be upgraded..?

Hi, I am looking at upgrading my memory and graphics card.I would like to go from 8gb to 16gb, though i can't find how many memory banks or how much memory is supported.I do a fair bit of gaming, most games work. Though i would like to get a little bit better quality with out buying a new laptop.I am pretty sure it has geforce 840 graphics card. The question has most likely been asked a lot, though any tips and advice would be greatly appreciated.

@dfreeo What is your machine actually ? Is it the HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-p224sa ?       http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04064340 In general, you can't upgrade video card on laptops and the above machine only has video chip which comes with CPU.  The above machine has 4GB + 4GB. You can upgrade to 8GB + 8GB Regards.

I have an aging HP Pavilion g6 (basic specs here; CPUID info below) running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit SP1. The sources I've checked state that this comp is limited to 8GB DDR3 (up from the 6GB installed; 1 x 4GB + 1 x 2GB)), but that my OS is capable of running 16GB.

Is the max supported size 8GB because 8GB sticks weren't commercially available when it came out, so they just didn't bring it up? Or is it actually limited to 8GB total (because the first 4GB card is locked in, perhaps)?
