2020 end-date - So how often is MS currently updating security for W7?

Q: 2020 end-date - So how often is MS currently updating security for W7?

If MS is ending their security updates for W7 in 2020, then how often is MS currently releasing security updates?

Preferred Solution: 2020 end-date - So how often is MS currently updating security for W7?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: 2020 end-date - So how often is MS currently updating security for W7?

Every month - unless they feel the need to release out of band.

At one point I was told MSSE was bare min for security, so I purchased AVG security suit and it was so restrictive I uninstalled it. Now my MSSE no longer works AND Win 7 has passed end of life Jan 2020...
I tried to reinstall it before EOS, but had an error of "I already have anti malware installed, please uninstall", so I uninstalled MSSE from control panel and I seen I have "malwarebytes(free ver)" installed too, so I tried to uninstall
and had error "can't find uninstal000.dat file"... And Yes, I can search for it, it's just gone... I did find uninstal000.exe, but no .dat
So, I checked the security status tab under action center and it shows that MSSE is ON and working correctly and windows defender is OFF and I can't start WD, can't turn OFF MSSE...
I used current ver of malwarebytes to scan the computer and it found nothing wrong, I also use OutByte Pc Repair to scan/fix things and I think it does a great job on my other machines...
So I guess my questions are:
-How do I remove the malwarebytes entry off installed programs list? I want to Delete the program folder, I don't think the software works any longer because it won't start (passed trial date maybe)... But it still shows as being installed...
-I want to uninstall MSSE and reinstall it. How can I do that? I've tried taking a copy off a working machine and running setup.exe but the error of already having anti malware installed hangs it up...
-How do I stop all anti malware ac... Read more

My computer seems to have been infected with something. It is not affecting the performance of the PC, I can still run MBAM and other scanners and can also connect to the internet. I received 4 or 5 popups when I clicked on a link this evening, similar to the lower one shown in the screenshot I have linked to at the bottom, (I thought there was an attack file feature here?). I didn't get the chance to screencap them all.A program called "Desktop Security 2010" has been installed on my computer, which keeps throwing up messages telling me I'm infect and I need to buy a license key, and tells me the same thing when I try to uninstall the program. I am currently running a full MBAM scan, and it should be finished soon.Sorry there isn't too much information, like I said there's nothing really happening to my PC other than the popups, but I'll certainly explain anything as best I can if you have questions. Can anyone help me out? Screencap of messages: http://i40.tinypic.com/2egffrt.jpgEDIT: Sorry, I didn't see the removal guide in the tutorials section.EDIT2: I've tried the removal tutorial and it won't work. MBAM doesn't find any infected files.

Not sure how to go about this. I am not a programmer by any means but need to make a program.

I have a text file that is in what is called BAI format (bank standard format to send info). Basically this is a CSV file with a header. Right now I use a mail merge file to update the date field. I am looking to automate this so I would only need one "dummy" file and have a program that will update the date field automatically. The file is opened with notepad. I have done some VB but not a lot. I am looking for the best way to go about doing this. I tried to get some of the programmers to do it but no one wants to worry about supporting it, so I am taking a crack at it.

All help is very much appreciated. One idea I had is maybe a macro in excel but not sure if it would mess up the formating. I will try to get a copy of the file I use and post it.

I have a program that writes some output to a file with the default name of "output.txt"
The output file is opened using the following line of code:
hFile = CreateFile( szOutputFile,

Under 64 bit Windows 7 Pro (completely up-to-date according to Windows Update) the Windows Explorer in DETAILS view shows the same date/time for the file before and after my program runs.  It appears to be the date the file was originally created about
a year ago.  The Date column in Explorer seems to be showing the
Create date instead of the more expected Last Modified date and enabling those columns appears to confirm that fact.  (Last Modified is correctly changed when my program writes the file.)
I'm curious, though, in the past the CREATE_ALWAYS flag also changed the creation date for a file, because the old file was totally lost and overwritten.  When the Explorer and the create date bugs are combined, it can make it VERY
difficult to find the "new" file in a folder!

I use the Word short-cut icon 'Insert Date' when I create a new letter. I DO NOT TICK the update automatically box within the shortcut.

The problem is ...if I want to pull up this letter in say 6 months time and re-print it - the letter opens with the current date rather than the original date of writing. Therefore - I have no real proof that this letter was written 6 months ago unless I kept a hard-copy!

I particularly find this annoying when dealing with contract letters. So lately I have been using the basic version of a date by manually typing in 23/11/2008 rather than the fancy Sunday, 23rd November 2008 as the former stays constant.

Any cures for me?????

Greetings all,

I am making a looping powerpoint to be displayed on monitors. What I cant seem to do is have a counter update daily. My goal is to have a slide which shows how many days have passed since an important event, and not have to update it everyday.

The closest I have come is to imbed an excel sheet that has "=TODAY()-A2", with "A2" containing the comparison date. But with this, I have to open the imbeded sheet, then click back out to have it update itself.

Any knowledge on how I can have Powerpoint do this for me while it's in presentation mode?

Thanks in advance folks!

P.S. it will be running on a PC not saved to a disc.

I really need help!!! lol... I'm trying to have the document update from a master sheet which I managed to do via a VLOOKUP, but when the reference date on the document is updated, and I want it only to reflect the past 5-days, rather than the whole amount of information. So at all times it will show the last 5 work days and shift the cells automatically accordingly.

So basically the dates will constantly switch back. So that way tomorrow when I have the results of Sept. 29th, Sept. 22 will no longer be depicted, and the 23rd will take it's place; the 24th will take the 23rd's place, and so on. So it would look something like this...

**5 columns each date with it's own column
****After each day, there will only be 5 columns reflecting the last 5-workdays!

Sept. 22 Sept. 23 Sept. 24 Sept. 25 Sept. 26

Hi Guys
I am new to this forum and not very technical minded so please bear with me.

I have a monitoring spreadsheet through which i monitor c40 word docs. The biggest issue i face is that these words docs have a box with an expiry date on it. I normally have to open each word doc every week and update the date to current date. Then i go back in spreadsheet and manually update a column which has conditional formatting and goes red to alert me. For my purpose i will have the same date in all word files

WHat i want to achieve is to have a button in my excel file which when pressed updates the date in all word docs to current date. Word files will be closed during the update

I hope i am making sense

Thanking yo uin advance

Access 2007 Update Query For Updating A Date Field

Hi I have been asked to write a query for an Access 2007 db

I need to update a date field in a table based on another date field in the same table

1st date field is the person's start date (StartDate)
2nd date field is the person's project date (ProjectDate)
Without going into too much detail, the Project Start date always begins on the 1st of the month

If the person's StartDate is between the 1st - 14th the project start date is counted as on the first day of the StartDate month/year

If the person's StartDate is between the 15th - end of month the project start date is counted on the 1st day of the NEXT month

StartDate = 7/1/2011
ProjectDate = 7/1/2011

StartDate = 7/14/2011
ProjectDate = 7/1/2011

StartDate = 7/15/2011
ProjectDate = 8/1/2011

StartDate = 7/30/2011
ProjectDate = 8/1/2011

I would like to update the ProjectDate in an update query

Any suggestions? Thanks

A:Access 2007 Update Query For Updating A Date Field

Create a Column heading like this
numdays: format([StartDate], "dd")
numdays: datepart("dd", [StartDate])
this will give you the day of the month on it's own
add a second Column
NewProjdate: IIf([numdays]>14,Format([StartDate],"mm")+1 & "/01/" & Format([StartDate],"yyyy"),Format([StartDate],"mm") & "/01/" & Format([StartDate],"yyyy"))

This will give you the date to use in the update query.

We implemented ATA beginning on 3/15/2016 with two Gateways and one Central Server.  We've discovered that a few servers that are doing LDAP simple bind, which we've resolved by enabling LDAPS.  We have a server that's waiting on the Vendor to
provide a patch, so this single server continues to alert periodically.
In the ATA error alert, "services exposing account credentials", the "export" function appears to have stopped updating the export.   The web-view shows current events (4/1/16), but the "export to excel" stops at 3/23/2016
in repeated attempts. The similar error (& cause), "sensitive account credentials exposed", is working correctly in its exports.  The system reports "Hooray, system is health!"  Servers have been rebooted, Webpages refreshed,
services restarted, etc...
Any ideas?

I'm looking for the best FREE security software for my upgraded Win 10 (version 1709) computers. I've been using Norton Security for years, but it's SO expensive! I've read that most free software is just as good as paid versions. It's hard to research these, because all these programs want to scare the crap out of me by saying how vulnerable my PC is and why I need to BUY protection rather than use a free version.

So I'd like to get some up to date information on some things I've been told in the past...

#1. I've always heard that Windows security software is awful & should never be used. But, I've been reading through this forum's questions & see that many are recommending using Windows Defender (I'm assuming this is the newest version offered by Windows). Has it improved THAT much? Is it REALLY the only security software that I need?

#2. Years ago, I used AVG Free & it was fine. But this was "Pre-Facebook". Are there Free Security Programs that are Better than others? What are they??

I use my PC for all my bill paying & banking & otherwise sensitive stuff.

I seem to have a problem with all of my security software in so far as none of the applications used will update succesfully. Malware bytes, Add aware, Spyware doctor and Windows Defender will not update at all. Spyware doctor just freezes once I have pressed the update button on the small pop up that appears and will not even start from there and Windows defender will not start or will stop operation once I have gone through the process of starting the real time service requiring a restart. It all seems a bit suspicious to me but then again, I don't know much about these things other than it seems odd that all of my protectino programs are now not working affectively.

I use Windows firewall and MSE is working ok and up to date. I am running Win7 home premium 64bit with all updates installed as I keep on top of that. Incidently, the Wind Defender and Spyware doctor seem to have been downloaded from a WinUpdate recently..

I awoke to find a message on the desktop about a BSOD that occurred and that my resolution went from 720p to 800x600 (geforce experience wasn't running).
I immediately came here and downloaded the DM Log Collector and turned off the 'Reboot on error'. In the middle of DM doing it's thing, another BSOD- I assume one similar to the previous one.

After rebooting, my resolution returned to normal and the PC has been doing fine for several hours.

I have a feeling one of the updates might have been the cause- specifically emsisoft as the .sys file mentioned on the BSOD seems related to the software upon google searching.

I would love for someone who better understands dump files and such to give me their input though. I really want to know what caused the crashes.

A:BSOD after updating all security programs

 1: Emsisoft

Emsisoft is indeed causing issues. It could be that it's conflicting with MBAM and I'd suggest uninstalling the software, MBAM should more than have you covered with malware protection.

I've heard from several people that it is possible to get hacked within minutes of installing Windows, while retrieving updates (this actually happened to someone I know... he was actually "lucky" that the hacker posted a terminal window informing him with a message that read "gotcha"). The vulnerable state isn't surprising, considering that the OS is years behind, with security patches missing in its initial state, prior to getting updates.

Thus, during updates, I make sure my Windows Firewall & Defender are running, and I don't surf the internet (that said, the Updates process itself is dependent on using IE, which is out-of-date). I also disable RDP, sharing, netbios, and even IPv6.

What other some other recommendations for improving security?

For one, I know that it helps to use Windows 7 with SP3 included. Is it possible to pre-download (via another computer) other pieces as well, such as NET, security patches, or the latest IE version?

I would install/run an anti-virus, but a Microsoft rep told me it's better to wait until the Windows "foundation" (NET & other updates) have been laid down, since some of the antivirus software's components might prefer to build onto it. Is that true?

A:Security measures to take when installing or updating?

Personally wwjd I download and install my security as soon as the Windows updating is done and as my machines are capable I am usually downloading both anyway saving the security to Downloads to stick in as soon as the updates are finished.

I've encountered a minor problem with my computer that started happening a few weeks ago. The date and time kept reverting to weird dates years back, and always to early times like 3 AM. Of course I thought nothing of it, changing it back to the correct time while also running several virus scans, all of which came up clean. Within a day or two however, it would always change back to its own date and time. Only very recently did I search for a solution to this, which was to uncheck syncing to the windows website or some other. Didn't change a thing.

As well as this, I've experienced a more severe problem that first happened a week ago. Upon opening my browser I was greeted with the message that Firefox doesn't recognize the security certificate...of Google. I soon found out that it didn't recognize the security certificate of any website at all. Ran a Malwarebytes scan. Clean. Ran an Avast scan. Clean. Super Anti Spyware scan, removed all the offending cookies. Yet the problem persists. At one point my taskbar changed to a Windows Classic style, and I have no idea why. As you can see, I'm pretty sure I have some sort of stealthy virus, but I could be wrong.

Several times tonight I've gotten the following message from Windows Security Center:
Virus Protectiion Out Of Date

Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security reports that it might be out of date. Click Recommendations for suggested actions you can take.

Yet when I click on my PC-cillin Internet Security icon I get a message informing me that my antivirus settings meet recommended levels, so I figure I should be protected. However, whenever I click on PC-cillin's Update Components, I get this message:

Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security

An error occurred while connecting to the Internet. Please make sure your Internet connection is properly functioning and try again.

It doesn't make sense to me that I should be getting these error messages. I have more than a year left on my PC-cillin subscription, so it definitely should not be out-of-date. Also, I am already online and able to check e-mail and surf when I get the message telling me that an error occurred while connecting to the Internet and that I should make sure my Internet connection is properly functioning.

I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who is able to tell my why I am suddenly getting these inappropriate error messages. Thank you very much.

I believe that my laptop has a virus because of the many problems that I have faced. I ruled out the possible cause of a laptop malfunction because even after uninstalling and reinstalling Microsoft Security Essentials. The program would just be shut down/removed, and many other programs such as java or adobe will not update or install. There has also been problems with some FN commands involving certain buttons not responding. Also Windows Malicious Tool thing keeps popping up everytime I start up the laptop even though I had already gone through it but when I press to run it, the laptop freezes.

On the weekend I mistakenly turned off the power while my desktop was shutting down. The computer then wouldn't start Windows and after various failed attempts at system recovery I did a factory system restore.

Last night I successfully downloaded MSE but with the status per screenshot below.

I clicked the Update button and it downloaded for over four hours before telling me the update failed because of lost internet connection. I'm on satellite internet and the connection can drop in and out.

I hesitate to try to update the same way again, with such a long wait, but will have to if that's my only option.

So I'm wondering if there is a better alternative?

Thanks in anticipation.

ETA - Thought I should add some info that may/may not be pertinent. Since the factory restore the desktop is running Windows 7 Home Premium (without Service Pack 1) and Internet Explorer 8. I had problems installing the Windows Service Pack, and was unable to upgrade to IE 11 without it. I intend to seek separate help for these issues on this forum, once I've followed the posting guidelines. Cheers.
