I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Will there be an issue for the two of them to collaborate on image edits if they each use the photoshop version with which they are comfortable?

Thanks!

I've been having performance issues between the Windows 7 side of my dual boot system and the Win8 side. And Windows 7 consistently out performs Windows 8.

In Nova Bench for example I have a dozen or more Win8 (Pro) tests in the 600-700 range, I can tweak the results a bit by adjusting the multiplier for my CPU or using the "extreme" setting in ASUS's Ai Suite for OCing. But the difference is clear, Nova Benchmarks for this same hardware running in Win7 (Home Premium) are about 50% better with scores consistently in the 900-1080 range. 1080 is my high water mark. Win8's best score is 823, with many scores in the 650 range.

Then I decided to get real.

I set up my real world test. I sometimes take a series of photo's and then use Adobe Element's Panoramic feature to stitch the images into one wide panorama. The images are all large megapixels to begin with (e.g. about 40M each) and the resulting panorama can be well in excess of 150M so we are talking big pictures.

I tested the system with the hardware BIOS settings the same and went to ASUS's Ai Suite to check to make sure the settings were the same for Win8 and Win7. I also checked in on AMD's Vision Control Center to ensure that all of the settings there were the same. Same hardware, same settings.

The tests - one used four images, the other six. These were the same images, drawn from the same hard drive. The images were not on the same hard drive as the OS or the program.

Hi
I have been using Photoshop for years and am happy with CS2. My computer died a death and I lost all my data etc including Photoshop, which I could not deactivate.

I now want to install it on a laptop using Windows 7. I have asked Adobe and have been told their Chat support will take me through the steps. Basically I need to know how to unlock the product in order to obtain a challenge code. After some 4 hrs we are getting nowhere and ! feel this is a ploy to have me buy the latest version!............

Is there anyone out there who is using Photoshop CS2 with Windows 7? Did they have a problem or was the install straightforward?

Grateful for any comments.

PS4 is not directly compatible with XP, but I guess you could always try running it under Application Compatibility mode. If that doesn't work, I'm afraid that the only real choice is to upgrade to the latest version of PS.

Is there a progrom that will use the microphone and allow you to control your computer?

Examples:

When you clap the screen turns on (like when you go idle)
Program it so when you say "Start Photoshop" photoshop starts running
Clap twice to turn off
Say "Play Techno", plays the techno playlist you have created under iTunes

Other Ideas:

When you say "submit" it will click the submit button on the current active page (like in IE)

*I currently have a computer that has voice recognition software built in (its a fujitsu tablet pc running Windows Xp Tablet Edition), but I basically use it as my desktop as of now and it's hooked up to a 20" monitor, and has a built in microphone and wireless card.

I read something about x10 for Macs, but I'm running xp. Anything similar, but used strictly on the computer?

Hi.

Welcome to TSG.

Not knowing which OS or which Photo shop version you are using, I'll give you the info for windows and Photoshop CS. I am pretty sure at least Photoshop 7 is the same.

You will find the correct method in the help files.

As soon as you turn Photoshop on, press and hold down the Alt+Control+Shift keys at the same time. Keep them held down until a prompt appears the will ask you if you wish to delete the current settings. Press OK.

Once the action is finalised (give it a minute or so), close Photoshop.

When you reopen Photoshop, the default settings should be back.

If you have any further problems, go to help>search>and type in Setting preferences. It will show you how.

Good luck.

I am having a nightmare trying to install an old copy of Photoshop 4. This program used to work fine on XP but on anything higher its a lottery. I have tried it on two laptops with Vista, one it installed fine and worked seamlessly and the other I just get the exact same message I am getting when I try to install it on my laptop with Windows 7 home premium, namely:

The version of this file is not compatable with the version of windows you are running. Check your computers system info to see whether you need a 32 bit or 64 bit version.

I have tried to run it in compatability mode and also as administrator but just get the same message. Why have a compatability mode if even after you switch to it its still not compatable!

A:Windows 7 won't install Photoshop 4

Compatibility is an attempt by Microsoft to support old programs, this will not always succeed. It relies on the original program being written to conform to set standards, which is not always the case.

Your system specs do not give a lot of system details but ....
one of the major issues with running very old programs is the system architecture, the majority of modern systems are 64 Bit which can also run 32 bit through the use of special virtualization techniques. Unfortunately a 64 Bit system will not run an old 16 Bit program.

Although the actual Photoshop 4 program may be a 32 Bit, it may have some 16 Bit components which will not run if you are running a 64 bit system.

Try this. Copy your PS folder from XP or(?) to your flash drive. Transfer that folder to your x86 folder in 7. Make a shortcut to your start menu. Try to start it. It will tell you such and such .dll file cannot be found. There will be five to seven missing .dll's. Just Google and download each dll and place them in the photoshop folder. This is how I got PS 5.0 to run in my 7 x64.. It works fine for me. If you try a direct install you are probably going to hit a wall?

In windows XP with my nVidia 9500 GT Graphic Card I could use 3D features in photoshop cs5 with hardware acceleration (I say it because until I moved to Windows Se7en, I never had messages saying I don't have the Hardware 3D accelerator.) But now, Photoshop uses software accelerator. Also I cannot use OpenGL features of photoshop since I have known them, so, although I know this is not relevant to this part of forum, but I'll be grateful if anyone knows if my Graphic Card supports OpenGL and I should just update to new driver.

Windows forced an upgrade to 10 this afternoon and suddenly I'm unable to use Photoshop 5.5. (Yes, I know it's an old program but it had no issues in Windows 8.1) The program will simply not open.

I can't afford a new version of PS, the one I have fits my needs, and I'm bordering on furious that it's not working due to this upgrade I did not want.

Is there any way to get to the program to work in 10? If not, I want to know how I can roll back to my previous version of Windows since I am incredibly unhappy with the OS so far.

Hi there,
I've had friends trying to convince me to upgrade my windows XP (home) to SP2 for a long time now, but I'm hesitant to do so since Microsoft has a list of programs which experience problems with the service pack, among which is Photoshop CS:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/884130

I'm not sure what the "processor type" reference is linked to, and since Photoshop CS is already installed on the system I dont know whether it would be affected at all.

I've been looking around to see if anyone else makes reference to this combination but have been unsuccessful so far: Does anyone have any idea/experience/opinions with this kind of issue?

Thankyou kindly.

I am having an issue with Photoshop CS6 x64 on Windows 8 and memory use. I am doing a time-lapse vid at the moment and chose to use Photoshop to align images of Old Faithful that were (unfortunately) hand held, and then create the video from there.

While working on this, I get a warning telling me to save my work and close the program because Windows has ran out of memory. When I check the Task Manager, I am only using 49% of the systems Ram. I have Photoshop set to use up to 75% of available Ram. I have 8 gigs installed at the moment.

Is there something I can do to circumvent this warning? Can I adjust the amount of Ram that Windows will wait to warn me about or can I turn off the warning dialog? (Yes, I know that I can have adverse effects by turning that off).

Hey Guys,

Pulling my hair out here so someone PLEASE help me!!

Installed Windows 7 a few days ago, Installed Office 2007, Dreamweave CS4 and Photoshop CS4. Everything was working fine for a few days.

Then yesterday, I moved the computer to another office, and tried starting Photoshop, but it said "Photoshop Stopped Working".

Search forums for known errors and tried EVERY method that they suggested but nothing worked at all. (Dreamweaver still worked fine). So I formatted hard drive and installed Windows 7 again. All went ok so I installed Photoshop. Everything still working I created a backup image and restarted the computer several times. Again, everything working fine so I decided to install Dreamweaver and Office 2007. Without restarting, loaded Photoshop again and everything still fine, but once I restarted, thats it, Photoshop wont open again. Searched all the forums again for help, nothing works!!

I've not restored the computer so all I have is Windows 7 and Photoshop, and everything seems to be ok, for now!!

Equipment that i'm using is:

Quad Core 2.6
8gb Memory
500 and 250gb Sata
400gb IDE
2 x Radeon HD 4550 Graphics Cards
Lighscribe DVD Burner.
Usb Keyboard
Logitech Nano Wireless Mouse.

Now the only thoughts I've had is that it could have been the windows updates, but I've turned those off for now. Could it be anything to do with grpahics card?

Thanks in advance for any help.

A:Photoshop CS4 / Windows 7 Problem :(

** UPDATE **

From the previous state where photoshop alone was working. I've now installed Office 2007. Everything was working fine, rebooted several times and everything was working.

Everything seemed ok so I changed some of my personal preferences, and I run 4 screens on my computer and prefer to have my "Main Screen" as the 3rd one in the row of 4.

Rebooted Windows 7 and bang, Photoshop doesn't work. So I just thought while being extremely P**SED off that I'd change my "main" screen back to Screen 2, and there you go, Photoshop works fine.......

Why is this?

I already removed the pref.PSP files of both the 32 and 64 bit version, but after trying to start the 64 bit version it fails again
What can I do about it, is it possible to repair this without re-installing the program, or should I forget about the 64 bit version and use the 32 bit version. It's always something with those Windows versions I'm happy I also have a Mac that does not have this problem

I'm assuming this belongs here as it was working fine in XP32 SP3.

Recently decided to play around with Windows 7... wow! I'm really liking it.

One of the only issues I've come across so far as been an apparent compatibility issue with Adobe Photoshop CS4. Whenever an image in open, whether it's something I've opened through PS itself, the windows explorer extension, or created from scratch in PS, the area where the image should be is completely black.

The PS interface itself is all there and working fine. Changes to an image, like drawing with a brush, do not show up; everything just stays black. The changes, however, ARE working. I opened up a new pic and blindly drew on it with brushes of various colors and saved it, and then opened it with the windows pic viewer and everything was there (and a beautiful masterpiece, at that).

Anyone know what's up? My GFX drivers are up to date and I have tried many things, like running PS in "Compatibility Mode" for XP SP3, running it as an administrator, and allowing it through all of the permissions like read, write, modify, etc. Nothing yet.

PS is "Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended, Version 11"
OS is Windows 7 Ultimate x86 (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_rtm.090713-1255)

Any help is appreciated - thanks! For now maybe I'll put in GIMP or something.

Edit: If it helps at all, here's a pic: http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/3518/10790740.jpg

Caould be as simple as a mouse driver or as coplex as a heat issue. Can we get some more info on your system specs?

can you go into device manager and insure the driver is installed and working correctly? (type device manager in search) go to the mouse tab and make sure there are no yellow triangles on it. Are there any other "unkown" devices with yellow triangles on them?

I just bought a Vista x64 PC with the free option to upgrad to Windows 7 at the end of October. I am planning to install Photoshop CS4 and Lightroom 2.5 on Vista and then upgrade to Win7, since all the programs and files should be intact.
Is there a good reason to wait with install of CS4 and Lightroom until the upgrade to Windows7?

Thanks

A:Photoshop CS4 install on Vista vs. Windows 7

I have read here and elsewhere that doing an inplace upgrade from Vista to Windows can take any where from several hours to an entire day, depending on the amount of programs you already have installed.. Having said that I would start to backup your data and do a clean install of W7, and reinstall your apps... that way you lessen the risk of bringing unwanted data blocks from Vista to W7..

I just tried to install the entire Adobe CS3 suite last week, and after a lot of time spent scouring the web for fixes, I finally got most of the programs to work. However, Photoshop, the program I initially wanted the suite for, will not run at all.

I start the program, and a window pops up saying that it can't continue, windows searches for a solution for a couple of seconds, I am then instructed to press the "close" button in the window and Photoshop shuts down.

My initial issues with the entire CS3 installation were apparently related to compatibility issues with license verification in adobe, but I found a patch for that. I have tried running the file in compatibility mode and/or as an administrator, but nothing changes.

Anyone have any ideas?

My Photoshop 7 installed fine on a Windows 10 32bit computer that had been upgraded from Win7.
Setup.exe would not complete when trying to do the same thing on Windows 10 64Bit.
32bit installer was running in Task Manager but doing nothing.
Apparently it is possible to convert the machine between 64bit and 32bit but that would involve reloading everything (I thought).
Found the solution here by IdleMartin.
https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2018880
There was only one 64bit process holding up setup.exe and now my old photoshop program runs on Windows 10 machines running either 32bit or 64bit.
Briefly, Task Manager, process Details, Analyse Wait Chain for Setup.exe

Hi there
No problem for me -- I am on W7 x-64.
Download the TRIAL from adobe -- you can use your own key after install.

At installation select TRIAL

now any time with the next 30 days enter your key and activate.

If you got your version of CS4 from a Torrent -- adobe has been inactivating a lot of those lately.

Use the official adobe download site and it should work. (Download 32 / 64 bit version depending on your version of W7).

Cheers

I installed Photoshop 7.0 about 6 months ago with Windows 7, 64-bit operating system. It successfully installed and I have been using it with no issues. Over this weekend, it just stopped working and I get the following error:

"Unable to continue because of a hardware or system error. Sorry, but this error is unrecoverable."

I have uninstalled Photoshop and tried to reinstall it but still have the same issue.

mreese,

1.Have you tried using one of your System Restore points PRIOR to your current problem occurring?

System Restore

2.Have you checked in Event Viewer?

To check for problems you need to do the following.

Event viewer.

Quote:
Type eventvwr in search and go to the windows log>application tab.
Look for errors that have red in the left hand column that say anything relating to the CURRENT problem.
When you find any make a screenshot and upload them to us.

Hello,
I recently got Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 Extended and installed it in my Windows 8 PC. First of all, here are my specs (Please refer to the 'System spec' section below the thread for more information) ;
OS - Windows 8Processor - Intel Core i7-3770 (@ 3.40 GHz)GPU - NVidia GeForce GT 640 4.00 GBMonitors - 2x (Dual) Acer S231HL 1080p, Full HD Monitors.
So after I installed Photoshop and launched it, it said that there were problems with both of my monitors. I ignored that (there was nothing else to do) and now when I open a new project (Ctrl+N) in Photoshop with;
Canvas Size - 1024x768 (This doesn't actually matter because the problem repeats in other sizes too)16 bit color. Background color - white.
The white background is rather link an off white - peach color. I did not do anything to Photoshop nor did I change the PC settings.

Screenshot of the canvas configurations;
Screenshot of the 'white' canvas;
Please note that the WHITE color can be seen properly in any other application. The color tint of my monitor is set to 'Cool' and not 'Warm'.

Please help me with this issue.
Thank you very much...

A:photoshop cs6 error 16 solution for windows 8 ?

What is error 16?
I have Windows Server 2012 - which is built on Windows 8 code - and Photoshop CS6 x64 runs normally.
Did you install Photoshop + patch it correctly: is your copy OK? Get another and try that if in doubt.
It should run on Windows 8!

My Photoshop program worked for a couple of years, then it started freezing up. Today it won't open at all. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but now it won't even install. I have the original disk and it is in excellent condition. Were there possibly updates in XP that are in conflict with this old Photoshop program? I get regular XP updates from Microsoft.

Hi Windows Seveners,

Would Photoshop 7, released in March 2002, be compatible with Windows 7? I have an old copy of Photoshop 7 and it is almost 9 years old... goes back 5 versions from just before Adobe started calling their software CS... Adobe is now on CS5, so that makes Photoshop 7 five versions back... pretty old.

I don't want to even try to install this older software if it could cause a problem on W7, but I don't want to buy the new version of PS CS5 Extended at about a grand.

Can Photoshop 7 work alright on Windows 7 ULT?

Thanks,

digiday

A:Would Photoshop 7 from 2002 be compatible with Windows 7?

Why would you want such an old version?

If it doesnt install, you could always try installing it in XP Mode.

From your description of which programs won't open, you didn't include Adobe. However, you're getting an Adobe error message. Or, are you saying this happens when you try to launch Adobe?

You said you tried to reinstall. What did you try to reinstall?

This is new to me, but try a possible re-install. It possible that part of the files were installed on the C(or whatever your default drive is) drive. It's common to happen with Microsoft programs, not sure about adobe though.

I looked at a lot of different websites and none of them had clear instructions as to how to install Photoshop 7 on WIndows 8 or WIndows 7. This is what got it working for me. Use this information at your own risk.

> Go into Windows 8 DIsk Manager
> Right Click C: drive
> Shrink Drive by 50-100GB (Needs to be under 930GB for most drives.)

> Copy all files from your Photoshop 7 CD to your harddrive
> Navtigate to: Photoshop\setup.exe
> Right click setup.exe
> Click Compatibiltiy tab
> Click Change Settings for All Users
> Check "Run this program in compatibiltiy mode for: WIndows XP SP3
> Check "Run this program as an Administrator
> Click Ok
> Click Run Compatibiltiy Trouble Shooter
> Click Try Recommended Settings
> Click Test the program...
> This should prompt you for permission to install (password, etc.)

You will get some errors installing it, but it installs and runs successfully. I hope this helps.
