I recommend trying the free service from Zip Cloud. It's currently our users' favorite backup and storage solution and will save you headaches down the line.

@denzeezot Contact HP and they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password. http://welcome.hp.com/country/w1/en/contact_us.html When talking to the HP rep ask them to escalate your service request. Or download these files. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/zu4kdgxm052l87d/AAAMi-kfX4AVH8oTCbsOM4X9a?dl=0 Insert clean USB flash drive. Then run USB Image tool. Choose the flash drive then click on RESTORE. After restore remove flash drive. Insert flash drive into locked laptop and boot. ?If HDD is installed remove before booting.? At C:\OUTPUT type CD.. ?Then hit enter? Type HPBR ?Then hit enter? First thing is to save your settings. Select #3 re-program. Press ?S? to save system information. Type HPBR and hit enter. Since your model is not listed select ?SHOTGUN.? After reboot repeat ?SHOTGUN? a second time. REO I must inform you that these services are not endorsed by HP, and that HP is not responsible for any damage that may arise to your system by using these services. Please be aware that you do this at your own risk.

Hello to the BleepingComputer community,First of all I'm sorry I haven't finished some of the steps from the Preparation Guide. It's because these steps require a reboot (e.g. Step 6: Disable your CD Emulation Software - DeFogger will ask me to reboot the machine), and I have a bad feeling about the question if it is safe to reboot in my situation: I'm not sure if I have a type of malware which is ready to infect the BIOS - if it is so, then it could infect it much easier during the reboot process.- If there is a good way to find out what is the problem (and fix the BIOS threat part if it really is present) without rebooting / shutting down this PC, or at least without booting from this hard drive (which I feel is probably infected), then please tell me what should I do.- If you know a place / forum where I can get a specialized help for this (seemingly BIOS-malware related) situation, please tell me where I could go.- If there is no way to move forward, I'll go ahead and risk the reboot, and follow the other steps (steps 6 to 10) in the Preparation Guide, no problem.I kindly ask you to please read below the details of the problem as it occured to me, and the things I have tried so far.The PC is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core BE-2350 2.1GHz, Motherboard Biostar TA690G AM2 (with AWARD BIOS), 4GB RAM, 200GB SATA HDD, and an ASUS EAH4870 card added a few years ago. It's with WinXP SP3, AVG Free 2012, (standard) Windows Firewall, and it's behind a router.I ... Hi guys, im new here so i dont know if this is the right place to post this, Anyway, i have an acer aspire 8930g, and it is locked with a bios pasword. I want to remove that. I searched google, and the showed some methods but didnt help.
I opened the laptop removed the cmos battery and after 10 minutes i pluged it in and started to close the laptop, when i turned it on the pasword was there. I have tried to crack it but that didnt help to.
I cant boot, and i want to install a fresh copy of windows 8.1 pro, but since i cant boot it is useless, but thats not the only reason, i just want to remove it.
I wanted to ask will the bios pasword be removed if i change the whole battery ? I know that the data is stored in a chip, but will it work if i change the battery ?
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

A:How to remove a bios pasword

A BIOS password in a laptop is a security measure. Unlike in a desktop, it is not stored in the CMOS and cannot be reset by removing the CMOS battery. If the password were easily removed it would serve no useful purpose.

All I can suggest is to contact Acer and be prepared to prove ownership.

Dear Customer, Welcome to HP Support Forum and we are glad to assist you. This is to inform you that all HP Business Notebooks such as Probooks  or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models infact they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial Number and the code is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case. Please have a look at this link. http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/49497-HP-Probook-Elitebook-BIOS-Password-Reset-Utility 2. Please Contact HP Business Notebook support they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password. Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again  **Click the White Thumbs Up Button on the right to say Thanks**Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. Thank You,K N R K

Relying on the information on the Lenovo website listing "Ubuntu" and "Redhat certified" under "Operating Systems", I chose a Lenovo P52. The device arrived, and I opened BIOS settings to prepare for the Linux installation I had planned. After changing some settings, I chose "change settings and reboot", and the device entered a nonresponsive state: Screen black with the exception of a single white pixel in the left upper edge of the screen. After about 30 minutes, I tried a re-boot; again, the screen stayed black. No Lenovo logo appeared, clicking F1 (or any other function key) did not lead into the BIOS settings. Customer support told me this was a technical defect, and I sent the device back to the dealer. A week later, the new Lenovo P52 arrived.  This time, trying to set up the BIOS for Linux installation, I always changed but a single setting and chose the "Save and Reboot" option. Things went fine until I chose to "Enable" the "BIOS support for Thunderbolt", a setting suggested by the BIOS help appearing on the right quarter of the BIOS setttings screen for installation of Windows 10 before a certain patch level and for installation of Linux. An Info Box popped op, saying the resetting with take "up to 15 seconds" with this option enabled.  The "Save and Reboot" led to a bricked device, again: Black screen, nothing happened for 45 minutes. A reboot again failed to have the Lenovo logo appear, no reaction on keys F1 to F12, no way to enter BIOS setup, let... Read more

Hello my friends ! A time ago i bouhgt two Lenovo ideapad 100 14 IBY (FreeDos Version) and install Windows 10 on it with UEFI and GPT Partition Table. All works fine until i want to play around with Linux and install UBUNTU Mate in UEFI on one of them. The install was easy but the Performance on Ubuntu with Bay Trail and the don't working Bluetooth was a reason to switch back to Windows 10. After that the Problem beginns. The Bios don't let me save changes anymore (only time and date !). There was no UEFI ESP and GPT Support since i install UBUNTU and the Bios Menu looks like that:Bios Entries on a blank DiskBootingThe Disk is Blank there is no ubuntu on there (Don't know waht the EFI Entries are no Hardware is connected). And when I boot also go to Network Boot there.(No Matter a USB Stick is connected). So what i did: # I Dismantle it and disconnect Battery and Cell and wait half an hour. # Nothing changes !# I change the HDD. # Nothing changes !# Reflash the BIOS by edit the plattform.ini - CheckByBios=1 - Error Cannot mount EFI Partition. # Nothing changes !# Install Windows 10 - Make mbr2gpt.exe and bcdedit and bootrec. # Nothing changes ! I can install and run Windows 10 in MBR and BIOS Mode on it. But no USB Stick was displayed in Boot Menu. So now Iam on my Limit and the Question is there a way to put UEFI and GPT back on it or does the BIOS locked in this State. For me UEFI is MALEWARE so why can a simple UBUNTU damaged my BIOS and ... Hello All,
3 days ago I applied the latest bios update to my 1-year old XPS15, running latest and fully patched 64 bit Windows 10 public release.
Since then
A) plugin a rather simple USB-3 hub into the system prevents the laptop from Booting into BIOS, or if manages to do that
B) plugin said USB-3 hub after full windows boot, freezes both USB ports devices.  The unfreeze can be overcame by unplugging the hub and then other device and then re-pluging both
C) after step B, windows explorer becomes very unstable and does not even show all the folder contents to some programs "open file" function.
D) the system does not recover anymore from plain S3 sleep, triggering a windows hard reboot.
I'm afraid the bios option to roll-back the bios version was not active, so I'm stuck.
Finally, the latest Intel diver published at the same time does not install cleanly after the bios update (although I managed to get it to show in the "program files" section.
I always apply the latest updates for drivers and bios promptly as main security policy and so far the system has behaved very well (Maybe with the exception of Hibernation from sleep time out, which always has been a bit faulty)

Hi.

My Sat M30 laptop start with an bios error. The error says "Resource conflict, edit bios setting or boot" If select "boot" computer hangs before windows completely starts. I remove the wi-fi and the modem module and the same error appears. I can't upgrade the bios because the windows don't start. The bios version is 1.7. The laptop is UK version. If select "edit bios", bios start but I can't find any resource management.

Thanks

A:Satellite Pro M30 Bios error Resource conflict - Edit bios setting or boot

Hi

I think the error ?edit bios setting? means that you should access the BIOS and should set the BIOS back to the default settings.

Please do this, save the settings and try to boot up!

The same issue from BIOS 1.2.5 is happening with BIOS 1.2.6. After the update, the boot screen remain totally black (no Dell logo) and you cant enter in the BIOS interface (no video at all).
The workaround is to downgrade to BIOS version 1.2.3
The windows boots as usual, and maybe this is the reason that users havent noticed this issue.
The bios upgrade/downgrade is automated. No mouse clicks are needed. Just wait computer to boot and wait some minutes. After this (blind) downgrade (because there is no video), you will see the dell logo once again and everything works as usual.

I am look for a last ditch help on fixing the BIOS/POST problem on a perfectly fine E6230
I was attempting to make a powered eSATA cable work when I enabled the SATA 4 and SATA 5 button in the BIOS.
After reboot... nothing..
I have been told it is a motherboard failure but this is too co-incidental!
I have tried a reset of the BIOS by disconnecting all power even the BIOS Coin battery .... nothing - no POST - although the LED shows that laptop is detecting lack of memory and HDD
A search shows that for INSPIRON laptops the BIOS can be unpacked and re-FLASHED to reset.
Does anyone know how to achieve this with the DELL Latitude Laptop or another way to reset the BIOS setting please?

Many thanks for any help or advice

Hello I upgraded my BIOS recently (I believe from A04 to A06) because I felt it might be needed to support a CPU upgrade.  Problem is, the new BIOS adds no new features that I can see, and takes 10 seconds longer to boot.  Fastboot is enabled.  This is a problem, since I recently installed an SSD and this new BIOS appears to be doing nothing, and is getting in the way of an otherwise lightning fast boot.
What is the correct procedure for restoring the system to the BIOS which it shipped with?  I think I can remove the battery, but is there not a preferred method? Also, it is remotely possible, given the processor upgrade, that the old BIOS will not boot.  I would prefer not to put in the old processor, reinstall the new BIOS, put in the new processor... Decades ago, a floppy disk would have come to the rescue, I believe Dell has a procedure for installing a new BIOS from a flash drive if a system fails to boot, what is the correct procedure?
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Hello, Problem 1:I've set the supervisor password some time ago on my T450s. I think I used the special character "!" which was accepted at that time, but I'm not sure anymore today. Now after severeal BIOS updates the "!" only leads to a beep of the system and I also tried all of my standard-passwords without "!" , but without success. Problem 2:Now I've tried to roll back to older BIOS versions to try if one of these accepts the "!". I made a clean installation and downloaded necessary drivers from Lenovo's support site.
It has been a long time since I have had this laptop, so I decided to update the BIOS as well.

The updated BIOS version is B0CNA0WW. I'm uncertain of my previous version, most likely the version that the laptop was shipped with, as this is the first time I updated my BIOS.

Is it possible to revert to previous BIOS version without any further problems?
And if not, how can I get rid of the utterly displeasing BIOS splash in the boot? Or maybe change the splash image?

I have a Dell Latitude D630. It has an admin password for the bios. Nothing is locked except for the settings. I can't change any of the settings in the bios. It lets me boot to windows just fine though. My question is, since I don't know that admin password for the bios, if I upgrade the bios firmware, will the admin password be deleted? Hi

I wondering what Crisis Recovery Disk do you have ?:|
In my experience the special disk is needed which is available only for ASP technician.
Therefore it?s necessary to contact the ASP in your country in order to reflash the BIOS.

In my opinion you shouldn?t not try any ?Crisis Recovery disks? which you fond in the net? this can lead to mobo damage?

I am guessing that something quite wrong was done in 2.20 (and it persists into 2.21). There was no such errant behavior with 2.19, as I've confirmed by reinstalling 2.19.  Works perfectly and boots promptly and the BIOS Setup utility works lickity-split with 2.19, just like it always has.  But with the install of 2.20 the behavior changed drastically.

Looking at the README for BIOS 2.20 this definitely seems like the culprit:

[Problem fixes]- Fixed an issue where fan might rotated with max speed due to not reading CPU   temperature correctly.- Fixed an issue where system might not boot to OS when attached an external monitor   and its USB3 devices.- Fixed an issue where network boot might happened at reboot after resume from suspend   by Wake On LAN.

At first I thought I had blown the BIOS update, since my screen was simply black for what seemed like 1-2 minutes after displaying the Lenovo logo and "press ENTER to interrupt" message.  I pressed ENTER repeatedly but nothing happened, for a long time.  Eventually, the hard drive activity LED on the P70 started flashing, and seemingly almost 2 minutes later, the machine came to life and boot process continued normally.

Then, once I entered the BIOS, I used the right-arrow key to navigate through the tabs.  No problem until I got to the Security tab and then pressed right-arrow one more time to navigate into the Boot tab... and it hung!  Didn't go ri... Read more

Restart, still stuck at bios. This time I cannot enter BIOS, recovery or change boot media. Assuming the boot sector has corrupt, will reseating the cmos battery will fix this *problem. Please help. Somehow with guidance from Lenovo Community, I solved the problem.

For future reference:
1. Take out HDD, battery, plug off ac power.
2. Restart, change SATA Controller in BIOS to compatible, restart.
3. Check whether the SATA Controller is Compatible or AHCI. If Compatible, force shutdown laptop.
4. Put back HDD, boot with Windows 7 Recovery CD or Installation Disc.
5. Choose Autostartup Repair.
6. Restart.

When getting close to installing almost all the drivers i`ve needed, i stumbled upon a new version of the BIOS amnd the drivers and sfotware recommended for my laptop, by the producer. So i proceeded to install the upgrade, restarted the computer when it prompted me to do so, but after the so-called restart the laptop did not boot up as usual. At first it was telling me to not do anything as the BIOS is being flashed and then it was telling me something about some sort of image processing, things that i did not understand at the time (i have never encountered anything like that). After that my screen turned black. I have not done anything for a few couple of minutes as i thought it was supposed to be like that, but then i just force shut it down and unplugged the AC adapter. When trying to boot it all up again, the only thing i got was a black screen and nothing else. After doing a little bit of research it appears that, somehowm i`ve managed to corrupt the bios on my laptop or something, and nothing else would work at this point. I tried to remove the BIOS battery and the ram and then put them all back, trye... Read more

A few days ago I had some problems with my HDD so I brought a new one.  To install Windows in the new drive I plugged in the DVD drive that Lenovo ships with the laptop and tried to boot from it. That failed and BIOS got like "programmed" or stuck with configurations that doesn't let it recognise any boot media no matter if it is a USB stick or HDD, no matter if I try to change the configuration of the BIOS it would always get back to the initial state of not being able to boot I even tried to reset it by unplugging its battery and the laptop battery but the only thing that happens is system time starting from 0 while any other configuration stays the same.  I thought this could be fixed using crisis recovery mode, but the laptop doesn't recognise the BIOS loaded on the USB and never make any sort of beep or alert noises, the screen doesn't show anything either and fans just get to 100% I really need help to solve this problem, it's like the BIOS got stuck in the last configurations before plugging the DVD drive in. (The Boot menu still showing that there's a USB booteable device even when it is not plugged in).

The computer wont start.   After pressing "ON" one can hear a vibration sound, it turns on an orange LED.   Stays black for two  minutes; then screen does light to a dim night-blue color.     This is for a Split x2 13-g110dx (windows 10 64bit). Already tried:  hard reset and going to BIOS (Windows button + "B"). Also tried booting from  a USB drive.   It did not work (see screen below). Any suggestion(s) of how it can still be revived ("do it myself")? Thank you.                                       Screen message

Link to the BIOS update with issue: https://support.lenovo.com/il/en/downloads/ds035753 I don't know what Lenovo's QA process is, but it's worse than Microsoft's because this update has been a mess for me. So far the update has failed on 3 of 4 systems I've installed it on. On the systems where it has failed, I tried using the Windows package twice, and the USB package once. During the Embedded Controller Firmware update, the update gets stuck in a loop, failing verification. This can go on for hours, and the only option is to terminate the batch job and start it again. After restarting the Flash.cmd update, the process begins by skipping over the EC update, and goes straight to flashing the BIOS. The BIOS does program, however when it gets to the screen where it says "The BIOS update process will continue after system reboot" the process fails with "Error: Secure Flash function is not supported on this platform" When rebooting, Windows then hangs for about 30 seconds while booting, which it did not do before. Once in Windows, the Device Manager shows that there is a Generic USB Hub with an "invalid device descriptor" with Code 43. Obviously, I have not been doing anything wrong. I've updated dozens of M73 systems with no issues. This M93p update is the only one that is giving me issues, and I don't know what else to do to fix it. Unfortunately, all of these systems are out of warranty, otherwise I'd RMA all of them due to Lenovo's horr... Read more

Hello , I have a Dell Inspiron 530 running Windows Vista Home. I am trying to access the system BIOS and it has a red password log in screen. I tried to guess and enter several log in passwords including  the word DELL and none of them worked. I didn't want to enter too many wrong passwords because I didn't know if the system would lock me out. Can anyone help me by pass the BIOS log in password or some how disable it ? Thank You in advance.
