Windows 7 update issue SelfUpdate Failure 0x80244019. AutomaticUpdates Failure 0x8024a005.

Q: Windows 7 update issue SelfUpdate Failure 0x80244019. AutomaticUpdates Failure 0x8024a005.

Hello

First of all, I thank you for your attention.

I cannot perform any "Windows update" issue since the 23/08/2016.

Each time I reach the "Windows Update" screen, I get the following error message :

In french : "Redémarrer l'ordinateur pour installer d'importantes mises à jour"

In english: "Restart the computer to install importante updates"

Then, after rebooting, nothing change.

After further investigations, I get the following error message:

In French : "windows update ne peut pas actuellement rechercher des mises à jour car vous devez tout d'abord redémarrer votre ordinateur afin de terminer l'installation précédente."

In English : "windows update cannot research update because you must first restart your computer in order to finish the previous installation".

Then, I've recreated a new catalog by executing these commands:

net stop wuauserv

ren %windir%\SoftwareDistribution SoftDist.old

net start wuauserv

Now all services are running but I still cannot perform updates.

Preferred Solution: Windows 7 update issue SelfUpdate Failure 0x80244019. AutomaticUpdates Failure 0x8024a005.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm trying to fix my sister's laptop which was obviously infected with a ton of stuff. First, I ran SuperAntiSpyware; it found and deleted 81 threats. Then I ran MBAM and it found 9-10 threats. I ran HJTthis a few times and it found and fixed 5-6 threats. Finally, I ran SpybotSD from a thumb drive and it found a couple things. I also installed Windows Essentials. Symptoms:- on bootup, sometimes it tries to check the disk, then cancels itself- Windows Help and Support starts as soon as the desktop shows. When I click the X, it closes and immediately pops back up.- IE doesn't work at all.- I installed Firefox. It worked fine at first, then randomly started redirecting me when I tried to click results on Google- I tried to run spybot installer to install the program on the computer, but it failed when it started unpacking.- I tried to run Windows update but it would start to download, then fail- when I tried to run Gmer as directed in your instructions, it caused the following: + message that said taskmgr.exe was corrupt, please run chkdsk + message that said gmer.exe was corrupt, please run chkdsk + logonscreensaver stopped responding, and screen went whiteDDS (Ver_10-03-17.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Owner at 16:18:17.62 on Fri 05/28/2010Internet Explorer: 7.0.6000.17037Microsoft? Hello,

I'm new to this forum and want to send a shoutout and a Thanks for all that everyone does on here.

I have a Gateway Win 7 64 bit desktop PC, that is having issues with Windows Update.

I guess that I have not been paying attention to my Windows Updates and I have not done a normal shutdown of my PC in a while. There were strorms coming up and I decided to power down. It said configuring updates, do not turn off PC. The next thing I noticed a few hours later, it was on my grey Gateway start up screen saying something along the lines of Failure configuring Windows Updates, Reverting Changes...." After like three hours, I was back in business. Well, the computer at random times tries to re-run the updates with the same message. Finally, yesterday I searched and found Microsoft's "Windows Update Troubleshooter." I ran it and it said that it fixed all of the updates. I even did a couple of reboots and Windows started normally.

BUT, last night, my wife noted that it said that the computer needed to reboot to allow updates to finish processing and of course, it went through the whole Failure configuring windows upates, reverting and such. Arrgh!

How can I fix this? I thought that the Troubkeshooter tool might work (and iot looked like it did) but then it tried updates just a few hours later.

Thanks for any guidance!

First ever Post I think (memory at 77 not brilliant): with updates first received error 0x8024402C.
Tried lots advice from different sites: regarding Proxy etc.; CHKDSK; Repair from installation CD; SFC /scannow; produced sfcdetails.txt;today ran KB947821.
following 947821 tried updates again this time Code 66A unknown error.
Produced CBs.zip but it's 19.3MB so I'm attaching (I hope!) an SFC SCANNOW.zip which I hope, in my ignorance, contains the uncorrected Corrupt files.
Hope I've everything correct only at my advanced senility .....

A:KB2604121+KB2468871 update failure+ SFC /scannow failure to repair

These are not errors as such - MS says they are the result of miscoding the files in a couple of updates as being static rather than variable.
You can either leave them alone, or uninstall the updates concerned - KB3022345 and KB3068708

As far as your WU problems are concerned, we need at least the CheckSUR.log and CheckSUR.Persist.log files, together with the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file.

Trying to fix my dad's PC that has been on the the decline for a few weeks. He had a tech dude look at it for a few hrs one night, couldn't fix it and said it was a virus or malware. I got a hold of it and have run a few bootable AV's to no avail ie. kaspersky, AVG, Hitman Pro.
The oldest issue I could find was the failure to update the .net framework 4.5.1 update for maybe 3 months. this had been tried multiple times.
I'm unsure what the cause is, any help would be appreciated, some of the symptoms that I can think of are;

Internet browser failure - Internet explorer will only get to a white screen then shut down and sometimes take the PC with it. Chrome (before I removed it) was loading, but giving the 'aww Snap' blue screen.
Windows Update is failing, mainly on the .net framework update - I tried resetting update with the same results.
User Account control is not functioning correctly - tried to create a new administrator account in case of corrupt user but the button to create new account is not responding.

There are some other issues but I think they mainly tie back to these primary failures. As a result of these failures I haven't been ab;e to get any solid programs installed to do any good. All installations come up with different faults, either "error 1719", or "invalid picture" or "windows installer not installed correctly".

I know I have spent almost a week of evenings trying to solve this with now joy, any help or advice would be greatly ... Read more

Good day,

For quite a few weeks now I have had a problem with getting windows update and MSE to... well update . Each time I attempt to do so, they always return with the error 0x80244019. I have been checking on other fourms, and a few users seem to have the same error, but none of the suggestions seem to resolve my issues. For some strange reason, when ever I try to access a page in IE or Chrome it always (no matter what page I attempt to go to) returns with the xampp homepage - and it's not even on! Here is an example with chrome (note the address bar ):

error1.png picture by darestium - Photobucket

And with MSE:

error2.png picture by darestium - Photobucket

And with IE:

error3.png picture by darestium - Photobucket

I also tryed resetting IE by: Internet Options -> Advanced -> Reset. And checking the LAN and proxy settings etc. Which didn't work, I also tryed a command in cmd, which didn't work either (I got it from another page regarding a similar issue) I think it reset the network configurations or something o_O.

So, the only browser I can use is mozilla, and I can't update or anything so, I am really quite annoyed. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be appreciated.

Have you tried uninstalling XAMPP, and then seeing if you can update?

Have you had a any malware infections recently?

My mom's PC didnt want to start up earlier today, so i looked up what may have caused it, and i came across a page that said that a boot failure along with beeping (which it was doing) could be the RAM, and just re-set it, so i did and it booted fine, it got to the desktop and shutdown and said the /system32/config file was missing or corrupt, i attempted to do a standard PC recovery and i got:

\minint\system32\ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded. Error Code 18

Im looking around online now on what to do, my mom really doesnt want to have to format her entire PC, so if there is a way to fix this without having to do so, would be great...if its the only option, ill do the format.

First restar the computer Start > arrow next to shutdown > Restart.

Then try again, if it does not work, I would run a Windows Recovery, and repair the registry. Alternatively, you could fix the registry with CCleaner. Free program simple download and install.

there is an option for registry that scans keys, removes issues, and offers the option to Backup.

when trying to use 'windows update' to install various security and system updates, updates download and then fail to install, and I get the message
'
Problem: A problem on your computer is preventing updates from being downloaded or installed
Solution: To fix the problem, try installing the updates again. If that doesn't work, use the Troubleshooter to try solve the problem.

the troubleshooter hasn't helped any, and after four tries one gets sick of watching the system download the same updates over and over. I can install the updates by hand, locating them in microsoft's downloads and running them individually, but there's a limit to how many update packages one is willing to search out and download in this manner...

A:Windows 7 Update Failure

The fact that you are getting the same problem after a reinstall indicates that you may be making the same mistake each time.

Having said that, the indications are that there may be a hardware problem with your machine - possibly either RAM or the hard drive.
There are a number of errors in the CheckSUR results which are the result of bitflips - where a single character has been altered in a registry entry. One or two is not that unusual - but you have more than a dozen.

I can fix these, but it's likely to happen again unless you isolate and eliminate the cause.
I would suggest starting by testing the RAM for errors.

I keep getting automatic updates from Windows, but after they've been installed, I get a message saying the updates have failed. This happens to me everyday because I set my computer (Windows XP) to have the updates done automatically. Here are the updates that Windows is trying to install: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Update for Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB982168)
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 Security Update for Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, and Windows XP x86 (KB979909)

Security Update for .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 and 3.5 SP1 on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB983583)
This is happening to the four computers in my office, so someone suggested there might be a conflict with the accounting software we use, which is call 21st Century Accounting, made by Hilbert Software, Inc. Also, I've been told that these updates do not apply to Windows XP. Anyone have any ideas? I'm trying to avoid spending money having a computer tech fix it, if in fact it can be resolved. Can I somehow tell my computer to ignore these updates?

A:windows update failure

Hi,

Your issue is certainly important, and we would like to assist but we cannot help directly with company owned machines....

I've seen the same basic problem on a computer, did not happen to be accounting software but it was the same Updates for the .NET Framework..... .NET Framework certainly does apply to Windows XP, because other software can require it to be installed.

There is a fix, I have no idea if you own these computers or not, I can at least point you to a link for the fix but that is ALL we are allowed to do. The thread will be CLOSED after this reply.

I strongly urge you not to tamper yourself with company owned computers......if you are in a position to work on them, and have permission then look at the information. You could print this thread out and / or show it to
whoever else may be a supervisor or IT department or owner at the company:

Microsoft Security Update has a free help-desk for security updates. Look for the Microsoft website for security updates and you should find the help desk email address. I think you will find that you will need to delete .net framework 1,2 and 3 and re-install them all but it is not simple. Someone has written a program called something like dotnetfix which will successfully delete the registry entires, so that you can re-install it. Microsoft uses this unofficial tool themselves. I recently had a Windows XP machine (HP Pavilion 783C), of which I performed a System Recovery. After which I noticed my SP1 update failed to connect to Microsoft's update server. I went to Microsoft and downloaded the update again and the same thing happened. My ultimate goal was to install SP3, but SP3 requires SP1 to be installed. I was left with no other option but to do an in-place install of Windows XP(OEM) SP3. This was probably the quickest option with the exception that I had to convert a Retail disk to an OEM disk before I could get the machine activated.

Has anyone else had issues installing Windows XP SP1 update? Or possibly a better solution than a re-install which will require re-activating.

Maybe what I'm asking for is a Windows XP SP1 update that doesn't phone home and require a connection to Microsoft's servers that they obviously shut down.

Windows XP is very good but Microsoft are keen to move people on. When XP was fairly new my internet connection was a telephone modem. Large downloads were not very practical. I requested and received from Microsoft a free XP Service Pack 2 CD. This was posted from Germany and dated 21-03-05. It would be great if they made available for download an ISO for XP with service pack updates and including drivers for current SATA systems but I don't think it will ever happen. I'm sure people would pay to download a legitimate product.

typed in fsutil resource setautoreset true C:\.

And I get a message saying

?The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable?

I have tried to download updates 1 at a time, turned off my anti virus
And tried manual updates as well.

My Error checking is not working ?windows can?t check the disk while it?s in use?
And schedule disk check does not work

The System File Checker tool gives the message
?windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them?

The windows memory diagnostic tool runs, reboots and does not display any results

Would appreciate any ideas on how and where to start

I have my system set-up for an automatic update; however, it has come to my attention that updates have not been occuring. I tried to manually perform an update. When I do this; the Windows Update box opens, but the screen remains blank (solid white). I then cannot close it; as it seems frozen, unless I use the task manager.

I tried getting help some where else; where I always donated a little money for each successful resolution (maybe $5-$10) to a problem. Needless to say that will not be happening anymore. Someone pointed me in the direction of your site, so here I am.

I've never had an issue like this, so this is a new one on me. I know the option for Windows Repair/Reinstall is there; but this is something I want to avoid if possible.

No error messages are displayed, no other (obvious) problems.

Hello, I have used the Troubleshooter with various degree of success, here is one tactic that I have used in the past, from the list of updates make a note of two or three by the number at the end, then close out of Windows Updates and go on the Microsoft Support site and download those updates individually and then install them. That will determine if the issue is with OS or with the Windows Updates service (on the computer).

Hello and thank you for taking the time to read my question!

I'm running a Windows Vista Home Premium OS with AVG Free, Comodo BOClean, and the Comodo Firewall. I just came home from a trip and attempted to update my computer. I had several updates and all of them succeeded except for one of them.
I've tried the suggested actions in the help file (OSE was originally set to manual anyways, but I changed it to Automatic Delayed Start like the help file suggested, but to no avail), but the update still fails:

Failed: 1 Update

Error(s) found:
Code 80070643

The update is: KB942763

Thanks for the help!

Did you try everything suggested in this KB article?http://support.microsoft.com/kb/903772This one seems similar in its suggestions, but it includes links to other sites (which I didn't follow up on):http://www.mydigitallife.info/2006/08/26/w...d-update-error/Hope this is of some help. Good luck!

My computer is running quite slowly, and has been pretty unstable of late--freezing up, etc. I've run Malwarebytes several times, which seems to catch a small handful of items each time, but that hasn't solved the problem. I've tried to run Windows Update, but each time I try, (eventually) it brings up a screen that says it's unable to connect, with the "diagnose" button, which then checks connectivity. IE still works for regular jobs (albeit very slowly, sometimes crashing). I pull up Windows Task Manager and on the Performance tab, it almost constantly is running at 100%. Can anyone help me figure out and fix what's going on?

Guess it's not clear to me...is Windows Update the problem (as you see it) or IE?

Can you connect to www.microsoft.com?

Are you saying the iexplore.exe is using 100% of CPU cycles in Task Manager, as viewed on the Processes tab?

Error Code 800B0100 for Windows Update manager. Attempted troubleshooting so far (run multiple times) - IfixIt clients, System Readiness Tool, and the Automatic Troubleshooter. Followed up with SFC /SCANNOW run as admin on command prompt. Repeated previous steps multiple times.

The Automatic troubleshooter indicates there are 2 errors it can't fix.

I've attached zipped CBS log file.

Thoughts?

Attempts to update result in continuous 'Checking for Updates' together with CPU use of 50 to 100% and very high memory use. I have to stop this endless service (wuauserv) with Task Manager. I've seen this failure all over the internet and tried all the MSoft 'Fixit's and other remedies I could find ... all with no success.

So I guess this is my last effort before I say goodbye to this PC.

Anyway, I tried to follow the instructions for posting this thread. Here are my results

1. SURT loaded up (and ran?) to 90% then stalled (yes, I waited for an hour)
2. SFC ran and found corrupt files that it couldn't fix. I cannot attach the resulting log zip file because it exceeds the forums upload limit of 8Mb (my CAB zip file is 10 Mb)
3. During a couple of my fix attempts, somewhere (MalwareBytes?)the following error message appeared: Windows Error Not Fixed: 0x80070005 (2015-11-07T-10_31_06A)
4. My 10 Mb CBS zip file is too large to upload (see #2 above) Might there be some way around this limit?

Other than Windows Update stalling, this PC runs normally.

Thanks in advance for anything you can do to solve this very time consuming Windows Update failure.

I couldn't get Windows Update to install today's (4-4-17) definitions update for Microsoft Security Essentials for Win 7, 32-bit. Gives error code 0X80070002.
Followed MS instructions to fix this error by stopping WU and deleting certain files/folders from the SoftwareDistribution folder and then restarting WU.
Now WU just searches endlessly for updates. MSE also won't update itself, either.
Anybody else?

A:Windows Update failure

Update:
Ran WU Troubleshooter and it fixed some errors. WU then found a bunch of old updates that I'd previously hidden, along with today's MSE definitions. I accepted one old update and today's definitions.
The old update installed but Definition Update for Microsoft Security Essentials - KB2310138 (Definition 1.239.797.0) failed again with the same 0X80070002 error code.
I googled for 1.239.797.0 and found a single result which reports an update failure today for Windows Defender Definitions with that same file number (for Win 10) but different error code. So maybe there's a problem with the definitions file itself...?
Guess I'll have to wait to see if the next MSE update gets installed.
And I just scanned with MSE which seemed to run correctly and didn't find anything.
