I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Using IE8. When I click a link instead of going to the right site it goes to some ad page. But when I go back to that link and click it again IE8 goes to the right site. Frustrating.

I'm using XP with SP3 updated,

I've run SuperAntiSpyware, Spybot, Malwarebytes Pro, and Norton 360 but found no fix, though they do find lots of cookies.

This has been happening for about a week or two. I haven't downloaded anything I can remember to pick this up but then my memory is fickle.

I did the searc with  "AdWcleaner by Xplode and it did find a boodle of stuff I don't recognize.

So, I'm now stuck.

OK guys, I've searched on the Internet for HOURS, and even looked at other people's solutions but the ones I've seen haven't worked. Every time I click a download link to Microsoft's website it will open for a second or two and then close as if the Internet connection has died (which it hasn't).

I have Windows XP Media Center Edition, if it helps. I use AVG Free 8.5.something, but have tried turning off the resident shield and even uninstalling it to see if it was blocking access in some way, but it had no effect. I've tried using IE8 and Chrome, but neither those nor my usual Firefox work using it. Windows Firewall is turned off and I have no other antivirus protection or firewalls, etc.

Yes, I've tried rebooting, I've tried every malware tool available and they can't find anything but the odd tracking cookie. I've tried the winsock command. Also, it's not my modem because another computer on the same network has no such problem.

For example, I can get to this page;

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...0B-F857-4A14-83F5-25634C3BF043&displaylang=en

but when I click download it fails. Also, websites that start "http://g.live.somethingorother" do not work.

Reaching the end of my tether. Can anyone help?

Like the title says, when I click on a link after I've performed a search on google, i'll get redirected to another website. However it doesnt happen everytimes but very often. I only experience this recently. I tried couple of methods. I uninstalled my outdated java and used ccleaner to clean it up then I downloaded and installed the new java(JSE). It didnt help so I removed all of the Add-Ons on firefox through Tools > Add-Ons > Extentions. It still did not help. Also, the virus soft trojan rogue would pop-up sometimes with the message my computer is in danger and it would start scanning and I wouldnt be able to close it down and had to restart my computer. Any time I click on a link from a thread on techsupportforum I get an external link message (Image Attached). However it does not happen when I use Firefox. Clicking on the link suing Firefox takes me directly to the message.

I know this is not a big issue but I would like to know why this happens and how I can fix it.

Thanks

Using Internet Explorer 7.0 - I use a website that has links that open up into a new window, and a Quicktime video comes up... I'm using a lap top that I've had for almost a year, but haven't used online much... anyway, when I click on the link, a new window opens, and the video begins to play.... but the original window also changes to the video, so they are BOTH playing, at the same time. How can I change it so that the new window opens and plays the video, but the original window stays on the page where the original link was selected?
Additional Details
I've been going to the site using both Firefox and IE7 on THIS computer with no problem, but the problem is with the OTHER laptop... The site is lynda.com - but for the above reason, I don't think it's a problem with their site. Where, on IE7, can I find "preferences"? Is there such a thing?

A:Click on link, new window opens AND same opens in original window

Look under Tools in IE and click on Internet Options. Look in Control Panel under Folder Options as well. Hope this helps. Jazz

Hello all, I have an annoying problem. I'm a newbie here, as you can see this is my first post. I came across this forum while searching for some answers to my situation.

When I open Internet Explorer, it will go to my homepage, then it will open two new windows with my homepage. If I click on a link, it will take me to that link, in the same window, but then two new windows will open with my homepage. Or if I type a site into the bar, it will take me to that site, but then, two new windows will open on top of it, both are my homepage. So of course, each time this happens, I have to close the two unwanted windows.

I'm by no means a tech "expert", and I have never fooled with any settings, nor would I really even know what I was doing if I tried. I do have virus and spyware protection, and I do not use my computer for any questionable downloads. I realize that does not mean I'm totally safe, so perhaps something got in my computer and messed with some settings.

Thank you for reading my post, and any advise will be greatly appreciated! TJ

A:New homepages open whenever I click a link

Hey...

I regiestered all DLLs mentioned in other forums on web, but no luck.

Surprisingly,
I installed Firefox - same issue with firefox too.

Whenever Microsoft Automatic Updates come to my computer...it screws up my IE 7 so whenever I click a link that goes to a .pdf file or click an e-mail link on a web page IE starts the process and then completely closes everything. If I reinstall an older version of IE (without tabs) all works fine. And sometimes...if i reinstall the newer version (with tabs) it seems to fix the problem. I also run RegCure to help cleanup. But after the latest auto updates...these cures don't seem to be working. The older version IE6 works fine..it's only with the newer IE & that this happens. Thanks

Also, check Adobe and see if there is a version/update for IE7.

I am using Windows 98se, Internet Explorer 6, and Google Gmail.

When I click on an email address in a website, I would like Gmail to open up with an edit box and my Gmail address already in the sender's address space, so that I could start writing my message in the edit box and then click on the send button.

I used to be able to do that with MS Outlook Express, but this utility has become useless because it does not work now, and I can't fix it anymore; besides, previously it was always breaking down regularly.

Can anyone please help me with my situation described in the second paragraph above?

I used to open my yahoo mail by a click of the "envelop" icon on my yahoo messenger, then it will open my yahoo email page.

But now it is not responding. So each time I have to go to IE or Mozilla firefox, type in www.yahoo.com, wait for the page to open, click on "email", enter my yahoo ID and pw.... etc

Oh. the inconvinence not just in yahoo, even in my Outlook Express and many others sides. When it says "click here to view more". When I click, no respond.

These links were once attached to Mozilla Firefox browser, because there were virus attached to my firefox broswer, I have uninstalled it via safemode. Now I have reinstalled firefox, but the links are not working.

How do I fix it.

A:no response when click on URL to open internet URL link

If you click on a hyperlink in a web page and only a blank window appears,

1. Go to Start / Run
2. Then enter regsvr32 urlmon.dll
3. Click Ok when finished
4. If that single change does not resolve the problem, repeat the process by running regsrv32 with the following dll files.

* Shdocvw.dll
* Msjava.dll
* Actxprxy.dll
* Oleaut32.dll
* Mshtml.dll

I use Firefox as my browser. Email is done through Outlook. My system runs Windows XP Home. As I first started using Firefox instead of Internet Explorer the two browsers each asked if they were the default browser. I decided that Firefox would have that honor. Shortly thereafter I had to click on a link in an email to see something. For some reason it couldn't find the browser and asked me to locate the .exe file. Since doing so I always get two browser windows opening whenever I click on a link in an email. How can I get it to stop this behavior? Any clues would be very appreciated.

A:(Resolved) Two browser windows open when I click on a link in an email.

Hiya

I've moved you to Web and Email, for more response

When you say you get two browser windows opening up, are they IE and Firefox, or just Firefox? If Firefox only, look at this:

Hi and thanks for looking.

I rarely ever use IE, im more of a firefox and opera person.
Long story short, im looking for a way to hopefully make the middle mouse scroll wheel / button be able to open a clicked link up in a new window automatically.
Just like firefox does.

NOTE: I am reffering to IE6 and not IE7, that has tabs and what not...I never seen the need to update it to IE7 since i dont use it
I know i put the word "tab" in the title, but thats just for helping other searchers find my post if its relative.

Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

A:Make IE middle click / scroll button open link in new window / tab

Hi squeezin

You will need to upgrade to Internet Explorer 7 to get that option.

Check the Mouse options in the Control Panel to see if your mouse has additional options for the Wheel or middle button.

hi...please help! i have windows vista. i recently used my office 97 cd to install word, excel, etc. it installed successfully. now, when i try clicking on an email link (on craig's list, for example), windows mail opens about 40 windows, and then says that windows mail is no longer the default mail client. i then realized that an older version of outlook express had installed along with word and excel, so i uninstalled it. i'm still having the same problem. i can go to options under tools in windows mail, and i always have to check the 'make default' option. it won't stay that way. i found a thread elsewhere that addressed this problem, but the instructions were for the xp operating system. i would rather the instructions be for windows vista specifically. these instructions talked about changing something in the registry, and i got to the registry, but i could not find the next item it told me to go to...thank you in advance for any help you can provide!

I use the following html and javascript in an <A> onclick() handler to always open a new window.
<A onclick="OpenMyWin()" target="MyWin" href="(url to htm page)">My Win Link</A>
where the OpenMyWin() function uses window.open():
function OpenMyWin(){
var  myWin= open("", "MyWin", "width=990,height=350,scrollbars=no,resizable=yes" );
myWin.focus();
}
I tried using the url instead of "" for the open(), but then it always opens only in a tab.
I've tried the various IE Tabs options.
This works on some systems (Win7, WS2008R2), but on a new install of WS2008R2 and WS2012R2 it always brings up both when I click the anchor link.
The doctype for the page is <!DOCTYPE html>
What I want to happen is that the link opens in the window where about:blank is opening, (and with the content displayed and not blank), and not in the tab. Instead I'm getting a blank new window AND the content in a new Tab.
Is this a problem with IE or the html/javascript ?

Started yesterday, when I click on a link the little finger appears when the pointer moves over the link, but clicking does not open the linked page. If the link is shown I can copy and place in the browser and it will open. If it is hidden with a name or photograpy etc nothing happens and i can not get to the link without going to View Source and copying the link. How do I get this click to open working again. In the meantime is there a keyboard solution?

A:clicking on link does not open link

If Internet Explorer is your browser,

Click Start > Run

Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll.

Click OK.

Click OK again.

Repeat the Start > Run... procedure with the following commands in this order, maybe checking after each for returning function:

regsvr32 shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 mshtml.dll
regsvr32 browseui.dll
