Preferred Solution: Very slow computer, detected mal-ware on other computer on home network

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello , And to the Bleeping Computer Malware Removal Forum. My name is Elise and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.I will be working on your malware issues, this may or may not solve other issues you may have with your machine. Please note that whatever repairs we make, are for fixing your computer problems only and by no means should be used on another computer. The cleaning process is not instant. Logs can take some time to research, so please be patient with me. I know that you need your computer working as quickly as possible, and I will work hard to help see that happen. Please reply using the Add/Reply button in the lower right hand corner of your screen. Do not start a new topic. The logs that you post should be pasted directly into the reply. Only attach them if requested or if they do not fit into the post.Unfortunately, if I do not hear back from you within 5 days, I will be forced to close your topic. I have 2 computers using Win XP. I use a KVM switch. I have an AT&T dsl router connection using a single computer. If I want to share a printer with my other computer I could set up a Home Net work. Would that cause my first computer to slow down? Would
if cause my computer to hang up or slow down if I do not turn the second network
computer on? I don't allways have them on at the same time.
How do I set up a home network to avoid problems?

Thank you,

My new computer (see specs below) is slower than all the otehr computers on the network. The longer i use it online the slower it becomes.

It is connected via LAN cable to a Linksys WAG300N. All drivers etc are up to date.

When i ping a selection of 10 well known sites the average latency is 250ms higher than the other 5 computers on the home network. this does not seam like alot but it takes pages 3-4 seconds extra to load downloads near impossible and to stream a video i need to wait almost an hour. I am an avid online gamer and latency issues are concurrent with these games as well.

Any help apprecated.

On my Windows 7 laptop, I have created a wireless ad hoc (computer-to-computer) network, but I couldn't detect it from my Windows 8.1 phone. I created another one on my friend's laptop, but neither myself, her nor another friend of us
were able to detect it from their Android phones and my Windows phone.

How can I get it working successfully?

Additional info: I haven't received any error on both laptops. I have admin rights. I'm connected to the internet wire. WLAN AutoConfig service is automatic and started.

A:Wireless ad hoc (computer-to-computer) network is not detected!

Hi Seaoar ,
We may misunderstand the ad-hoc feature ,it only supports the computer to computer .Here is a link for reference :
Set up a computer-to-computer (ad hoc) network
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/set-computer-to-computer-adhoc-network#1TC=windows-7
To create a wifi and connect the phone ,we may need to take the steps according to the link I have posted in my third answer. It is used to create a virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/general/guide-alternate-to-ad-hoc-wi-fi-network-t1924911
Best regards

MeipoXu, I appreciate your concern and let me correct you.

In the 1st link it says "An ad hoc network is a temporary connection  between computers  and devices used for a specific purpose". So it should not be only computers. Plus Iphone connects to it why not Windows phone?

2nd, why do you insist to post me a line about Android? I only tried connecting my friends' Android devices for tesing purposes. My own phone is Windows.

3rd I found a way to create a connection from cmd and it worked successfully without any problem. here is the command:

netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=<network name> key=<passkey>
netsh wlan start hostednetwork
netsh wlan stop hostednetwork

I hope other will benefit from my discovery.

Hi, First post but I hope to be able to use this Forum to help get familiar with Windows 7. Im used to Windows XP but my Old HP Compaq Desktop Computer finally died. My Buddy gave me one of his Work Office computers that was on a Network system with 4 other computers.

Im going to be using it for my home with internet access. I'd like to change the administrator name and password along with deleting other user accounts but I seem to have problems doing so. He gave me his original User name and password to be able to access the computer and clean things out.

Will I have a problem using this computer at home is it was setup for a network system?
I'd like to get it back to basics so I can utilize as much of the Hard drive as possible, but I do not have the windows 7 disk.
Im not much of a computer Wiz but I can do pretty well with guidance and or the proper links, so please have patience with me.
Im also trying to figure out Windows paint on this computer so I can post pics.

Hello there,

I have an eight year old Gateway computer. It is just a regular, single home desktop. It has Windows XP Home Edition, 1.25 GB of RAM (originally had 256MB of RAM and I added two sticks of 512MB of RAM). I updated my computer to Service Pack 2 using Microsoft's Windows Update. My internet speed is about 6 - 8 MB's per second (cable).

Here is my problem: When I do not use my computer, it automatically starts to load like crazy. All I hear is the churning inside my PC's tower, but nothing comes up on the screen. After 30 seconds to 1 minute, the churning goes away. Also, when it churns, I see the hour glass next to the arrow on the screen. This happens once in a while, but it is suspicious. My computer hasn't been running like it used to, so I'm concerned if there are any viruses/trojans/malware/spyware deep inside my computer that are hiding from my numerous virus/spyware scans.

Also, when this problem started, I noticed that my Internet Explorer 7 has been scrolling up and down choppy on a lot of websites. Right now, if I scroll up and down this message body where I am typing this message, it will be sluggish. But, if I scroll Tech Support's website, it is not sluggish. Even when I highlight this text, it is sluggish to highlight. Websites like -- YouTube -- forget it. Very slow and I can't even play YouTube's HD videos as they are very choppy.

I would like to know from the experts if there is anything suspicious on my computer that shou... Read more

My husband and I have a home network set up with two laptops. His is a Dell Inspiron 8100 and mine is a Dell Inspiron XPS. I run Windows XP Pro and his runs Windows XP Home.
Router is a Lynksys WRT400N Simultaneous Dual-Band Wireless-N Router
Modem is a Motorola SB6120 SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 eXtreme Broadband Cable Modem

We upgraded our modem & router a few months ago and haven't been able to get the 8100 to see the XPS, however the XPS can see the 8100. Before the upgrade both computers could communicate just fine and we were able to get into each others "My Documents" folders. I'm sure it's probably something simple, but have no idea how to fix this. We need to get it resolved quickly because we store all of our college documents on my computer, and my husband needs to be able to access them. Classes start on Tuesday! HELP!

I have installed a D-Link DWA-566 Wireless PCI express adapter for my desktop, and for a while it worked fine. Suddenly, my wireless internet connection vanished. It appears only this computer is the only computer in my household that is having a problem connecting to the Internet. I checked the device manager, and it's not even appearing there under the network adapters tab. I only hope it's not a hardware problem. I have tried taking the adapter out of the tower and putting it back in as securely as possible to no avail. What might be the cause of this problem?

Thanks in advance!

I've had my current setup for about 6 months now, and have been able to share files. Let's call my home computer "alien" and my work computer "laptop".

A couple of days ago, I found I was not able to connect to alien from laptop, but I could connect the other way. Also, alien can ping laptop, but NOT vice versa. alien has a static IP of 192.168.1.200, and laptop has an IP address of 192.168.1.8 via DHCP.

Any ideas about why laptop cannot ping alien (which would explain why I can't connect to it)?

You may want to disable the antivirus software for testing. With the ping not working it would seem like something is blocking the connection. Do the machines appear in the network folder under network?

Obviously you should make sure that Network Discovery and File and Printer sharing are turned on in the Advanced Sharing settings.

Make sure they are on the same Workgroup etc. and that file sharing is enabled through the sharing tab >Advanced Sharing> of the C:>Users folder.

Luckily I have not needed the support of this forum for almost 1 year--but my computer is slow again, as Malware was detected last week and picked up by Adaware. I am enclosing a log file from Hijack this. I also ran a Panda Scan the other day and it came back totally cleam, as well as a Kaspersky scan which also came back clean. I am hopeful that someone can assist tonight. Thanks in advance for all the help.

I'm looking for a way to have a batch file run when a network computer is detected.

My laptop is often times inaccessible to my desktop unless I ping it first.
So I've created a batch file to ping the laptop but now I need to find a way to have it run when the laptop is detected on my local network.

Is there a way to do this through a windows event or any way at all?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Run batch file when network computer is detected

There are applications that can scan a network for a MAC address, but I don't know if any of them support trigger actions when one is found.

I would instead concentrate on fixing the inaccessibility issue. It sounds like the adapter is turning off when the laptop sleeps or after a period of inactivity. That's pretty easy to fix - check your power settings on the NIC and deselect the power saving option.

"Your desktop has been changed to basic."

I have contacted Microsoft (at least through a couple of minor sites) which just amounted to a pass around. On one I got a link to a discussion Microsoft's help forum. Mostly it was people finding workarounds and particular triggers that could be avoided. Others could find no particular triggers and all of the posters seemed to have tons of RAM and computing power.

I've read some of the relevant threads on this forum and I get the same impression. There really is just nothing that is to be found that corrects this situation. There is one common denominator. All the users had multiple monitors. I have eight monitors. I use them for online stock trading. I don't use any high speed calculations, and the computer does virtually nothing all day except update pricing info. The CPU usage runs well under 10% and I have 16GB of RAM that usually sits around 5GB.

Under these conditions if I open a couple of browser windows I get a 'Windows has detected your computer is running slow' popup. Then 'You desktop has been changed to Basic'. That's a most annoying thing for Microsoft to do. From reading the Microsoft help forum, reading this forum and searching around I cannot find any solution anywhere. And since Microsoft seems deadest on ignoring the problem and don't provide a fix. This is perplexing. From my reading this problem has been expressed for several years now.

So to end this rant, I suppose I am asking one last time if ... Read more

A:Windows had detected your computer is running slow...

Might not be a software issue. You said it happens when you open a couple of browsers on your 8 monitors. I am assuming you have a great graphics card but what we don't know is what type, brand wattage is your PSU. I have experienced this issue of going to windows basic with my current pc when I mounted a total of 4 monitors but still had my 600 watt PSU. I haven't upgraded my PSU yet but once I removed 2 of the monitors the problem vanished. Sounds like it is possibly a wattage issue but that's just a hunch.

I'm assuming this annoying nag is due to some updae i have installed. I'll list my specs at the end of post to show there should be no reason for this nag. I should also state that i get this nag when system is pretty much idle. I have not been using the pc to perform any new applications or doing anything different with pc since it was built and as stated abovethis nag is a recent occurance. I was wondering if anyone else has been getting this nag or has any info as to it being being a by product of some trojan or maleware.

Go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc Right click the devmgmt.msc icon in the Search Results and Run As Administrator. In the Device Manager, do you have any devices with yellow marks? If so, drivers are needed for these devices. If not, you can either Update your Video Driver from the manufacturer. of your video card, or you can roll back the driver to the previous one if that was working well In Device Manager, open the Display Adapter, Right click you adapter/Properties/Driver/Roll Back Driver.

I fear there may be more viruses on my computer, hence the reason it seems to be running at a sluggish pace. Any and all help would be appreciated.

A few days ago, my computer suddenly slower when browsing internet, so I check the tasks manager and found that my cpu performance always hit the peak although I used the same applications which I always use. So, I used Malwarebyte's Antimalware and detected a worm called Worm.Autorun which then I already eliminated it. However, it doesn't seem better, and I think that I may get virus, worm, or trojan from my friend's usb drive which my anti-virus Panda couldn't find. So, I created the accout here and really need some help from specialist. Another problem is I can't save the GMER log. i loaded my computer after opening a program the other day that went really slow. when i loaded it, my laptop loaded a black screen and instead of my desk top showing, it popped up with my documents and i couldn't do much. i system restored to a point before it did that and then my laptop loaded correctly. it loaded very slowly however and again with a black screen, but after a few minutes my desktop showed up. my antivirus kept giving me these messages about programs wanting to load .dll files when windows starts and it said they were of high risk, so i blocked them. i scanned and found nothing after. i used webroot spyware scanner and trend micro antivirus and no malware, virus, or spyware was detected. i restarted my laptop then. it loaded ok, but very slowly still. now, whenever i try to open a program such as a game or even hijackthis, i get a message about the program trying to load a .dll file when windows starts. hijackthis is the only program as of yet that still works after giving me that message. a log will be posted in next post. plz help me whenever possible as verizon's internet has gone down for a while so i couldn't post here before, but now that theyre back up, i wanted to post this before it went down again since they are still in maintenance.

Ad-Aware detects VX2 and WurldMedia on my computer but can't remove or quarantine either. I already tried Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware, CounterSpy, SuperAntiSpyware, ATF-Cleaner, XoftSpy and HijackThis but to no avail. When I used XoftSpy SE, the viruses no longer showed up on Ad-Aware scans, but I know it's still on the comptuer because my computer runs awefully slow. AVG Antivirus also detected a threat with the file 2BEC090Ad01 inside Local Settings\Firefox\Profiles\gn7th1z6.default\Cache folder. My desktop also had a shortcut named "1" which I assume the virus generated. Please help?

The following appeared after I tried to open a website.

Our systems have detected unusual traffic from your computer network. This page checks to see if it's really you sending the requests, and not a robot.

This was additional info on what appeared.

This page appears when Google automatically detects requests coming from your computer network which appear to be in violation of the Terms of Service. The block will expire shortly after those requests stop. In the meantime, solving the above CAPTCHA will let you continue to use our services.

This traffic may have been sent by malicious software, a browser plug-in, or a script that sends automated requests. If you share your network connection, ask your administrator for help ? a different computer using the same IP address may be responsible. Learn more

Sometimes you may be asked to solve the CAPTCHA if you are using advanced terms that robots are known to use, or sending requests very quickly.

Trying to connect my home pc to a NTL or BT network. I have had
this pc previously connected to a fibre optic network and has
an ethernet card installed. I assume that I must remove this card
and install a modem card suitable to connect onto a telephone
network. I have the necessary cable to connect from the
pc to the telephone wall socket. What modem card is suitable
for this purpose.

A:How do I network a standalone home computer to a NTL/BT network

Depends on whether you want Broadband or just plain old dialup.

If you want BTOpenworld Broadband, they supply the ADSL modem (an Alcatel) and it connects to a USB port on your PC. You can leave the Ethernet card in the PC in case you ever need it again.

Not sure about NTL, but their broadband may require an ethernet card to connect to the ADSL router they supply.

For plain old dialup, just about any 56K modem will do. They are normally supplied with a cable to connect to the phone socket. Again you can leave the ethernet card in there, and would only need to remove it if you need to free up a PCI slot.

Today the kaspersky scan revealed Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Turk.a. I am assuming that this is part of the reason behind the lag I have been experiencing lately. I have also checked the HJT log now I am no expert however I dont see any signs of infection. However there is obviously something if its been detected by the Kaspersky scan.

I am trying to help a friend and don't have any particular knowledge with wired home networks. I use WiFi myself and have no problems. He uses Verizon DSL with a home wired network and has lost the ability to get his wife's computer back on the network. Here is his email. Any help would be appreciated:

we have verizon dsl
comes through a phone line (not dial up) to a modem then to a router
two lines from the router go to the downstairs and upstairs computers
(pretty simple one line in, two lines out, like a sewer pipe!)
the one going upstairs goes thru built into the house jacks
I lost the Internet capability several months ago
wife's upstairs computer did too
I called verizon and got mine back after getting a new icon called verizon online dsl
wife's upstairs computer couldn't get on
this has been like this for months - she has used the master for the Internet
I (finally) called verizon to get the same for her as mine
we spent an hour trying to get a signal to hers to no avail
went thru the usual 192.168.1.1 drills
her computer simply was not receiving from the router, thru the jacks
today I bought a new jack connection for upstairs
hooked it up
same problem

Here is my setup:

Modem -> Router -> 3 computers

Computer 1: Connected via Wire, Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Computer 2: Connected via Wire, Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Computer 3: Connected Wirelessly, Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit

This is where it gets horrendously annoying:

Computer 1 sees Computer 2 and 3 just fine. Can browse the folders they have shared, etc.

Computer 3 sees Computer 1 and 2 just fine. Can browse the folders they have shared, etc.

Computer 2 sees Computer 1 just fine. Computer seems to be somewhat aware of Computer 3 (it sees it as a media device for viewing pictures/video/whatever) but it does not see it under the Computer list in Network. In other words, it can't navigate to it and browse its folders.

I've messed with everything on Computer 3 I could possibly think of. There was never at any point an option to select who had access to what, specifically. I simply told it to give full permissions to "EVERYONE" which I would assume is everyone on the network.

Firewall is off on all three computers.

Sharing and discovery is on on all three computers.
File and Printer sharing is on on all three computers.
Public folder sharing is on on all three computers.

It can't be a "64-bit and 32-bit can't talk" issue since Computer 1 sees and is seen by Computer 3 just fine.

It can't be a "wireless and wired can't talk" issue since Computer 1 sees and is seen by Computer 3 just fine.

Ok, I have 5 computers on a home network, 4 Windows XP and one Redhat Linux Fedora Core 4. About a month ago, one of the windows boxes suddenly went from about 550Kb/s download to 100Kb/s download from various newsgroups. Also, when trying to pull AND push files to that same box, it is a very slow file transfer.

I didn't load any new software in that time and I waited so long because at the time, the newsgroup server that I am using reported problems associated with Hurricane Rita. This of course doesn't explain the network speed.

I've run speed tests on all the other computers, and they all report download speeds of about 550Kb/s and upload speeds of about 45Kb/s except the one, and it has download speeds of about 100Kb/s and upload speeds the same, about 45Kb/s.

After I noticed the speed reduction, I loaded a firewall, ** Protowall ** and I downloaded the latest beta of Microsoft Anti-Spyware and ran it. Also, I have Norton with the latest updates and it reports no problems.

Please, let me know if you need more info or if someone had any general tips to try. I am about at the end of my rope and reformatting looks like the only other option to me.

Thanks!

Mike in Ohio

Edit: Forgot to say, I went to 3 differnt speed testing web sites, and they all report the download speed the same on that one box, about 100Kb/s and the others are around 500Kb/s

A:1 computer on a network suddenly now has slow file transfer on internet and network

Are all the computers wired similarly? All run to the same router/switch?

You should check the cable of the problematic machine, try using ping to the router with 1400 byte packets. Also, boot up some CD Linux or equivalent and see what speeds you get from there - helps to rule out any problems with the operating system.

I am not very computer tech literate. I bought my compaq presario 2000 about two years ago (sys info below). It has always run very slow. I did take off the Norton Security, which seemed part of the problem early on.
I use it primarily for writing and use the internet a lot for searching. For security it has AVAST, no extra programs, or anything I can figure would slow it down. I defrag it regularly and delet the temp files and browsing history often.
Occasionally it will hang when turning off the computer. Otherwise it runs, but so slowly it becomes a major problem going from one window to another, checking email, or using the internet.
I have an old compaq that runs on win 98 and is faster than this v2000. What can be done to improve its speed?
Thanks for any help.

You're on the right track... Norton is a resource hog, deleting files, and defragmenting are all ways to improve your situation. I will also add the typical, "add more ram," comment, assuming you can. Also, some other ways include upgrading your CPU (if possible), upgrading your hard drive (if possible), have less services / programs start when your computer starts, put your graphics settings to the lowest possible settings, and even do a virus scan (since they can be eating away valuable resources, even if they are minor infections). There's lots more ways, just go onto google and look up "pc tune up" for more ideas :)

Hi everyone -

I bought a new Dell computer, and i can't get it to recognize my home network (peer to peer). The other computers on the network can recognize the new computer, and the new computer can get online thru the router that all computers are connected to.

when i try to browse the network from the new computer, i get the following message:

No more connections can be made to this remote computer at this time because there are already as many connections as the computer can acceptClick to expand...

.

It's just a small home office, with 4 computers total (1 wireless, 3 via CAT5). I turned off all firewalls (actually uninstalled Norton Internet Security, because i don't like it and will use other software eventually). I have only installed MS Office so far, but i had the problem before and after that installation.

That's all i've done with the computer - no games, no web surfing - just a new computer that's nice and clean. Definately a network setup problem.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I could go messing around, and have seen various ways of going about this, as people tell you to do different things, it probably all works the same in the end, but i would like just to follow some instructions and any advice that may be given......

So thats 2 computers already networked thats XP and Vista and just like to know How to network windows 7 with these two........

Windows 7 / home premium / 32 bit

Thanks for any replys in advance....

A:Adding a computer to a Home network

Carl606,
I would like to help, but I need to know a few more things about how your network is setup. You said "XP and a Vista computer on a home network", how do you have this setup? Are you using a router/switch? Did you setup Windows Networking and/or HomeGroups between the two machines? Are both machines in the same room and wired to the network or wireless?

If you already have a network, then just add the Windows 7 to the same "Workgroup" and you should be able to at least see the other machines from there.

The tricky part is sharing and then connecting to the other machines, especially connecting to the W7 box from XP.

If you can reply with some more info, I believe you will get an answer quickly.

I now have my windows Vista Dektop computer fixed to the point where the firewall is allowing it to see the other computers on my home network. (I had two missing registry files as a result of a nasty virus I contracted some months ago.) The problem is that neither of the other computers -- a mac running OS X and a windows laptop running Windows 8 -- can see the Vista computer, although they can see each other. For example, on the laptop when I click on Network, all I see is the Mac.

I have checked all the settings I can think of and haven't been able to resolve the issue. The Vista computer is running Windows Firewall and Microsoft Essentials. File and printer sharing are allowed and there is a firewall exception to allow file and printer sharing. The homegroup network is set up as Private with no password required. The Windows 8 laptop is unfortunately running Norton since it came preloaded on the computer. But even when I turn off the Norton firewall, it still can't see the Vista computer.

I have been having this issue on and off for a while now. We have 2 windows 7 computers. Network discovery is on and password protection is off. The folders necessary are shared, but when I try to connect to the computer on the network it asks me for a unsername and password. however, if the other computer tries to connect to mine, they get in no problem. We've tried a homegroup and I can't see any of the files in the folders... EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED. I have read and read on the forums and tried everything I could...Can anyone help?

You should go through the Homegroup walkthrough in the link below. Be sure and check the time/date settings on both machines, just about any A/V software or third party firewall can also cause problems like you are seeing.

Hi all,

I am currently trying to set up an old machine on Windows XP as a wireless network machine for my house. The purpose of this machine is to always be on and to stream music and videos to our laptop and dvd/media player.

The area I am struggling with is getting the laptop to talk to the network machine. The laptop is running Windows 7 and has detected the network machine, however, when I clicked on the icon to connect to it, it asked me for a user name and password.

I haven't set up a user name or password for the network on the network machine.

Any help would be greatfully received.
Mike
