Yoga 720 13" Display Issue while using WiFi

Q: Yoga 720 13" Display Issue while using WiFi

I looked around and didn't see any other posts exactly describing this issue, so sorry if others have already brought this up. I have a 720 13" that's acting very odd. It'll sometimes go partially (showing only a 1/2 inch at the top of the screen) or completely black. This happens mostly at the office. When I walk it out of the office (and out of range of WiFi), it flickers a bit and starts displaying correctly. I can turn airplane mode on, head back in the office, and it's fine. As soon as it connects to the company WiFi again, it'll crap out on the display within a few minutes. When it's blacked out, I can still see the mouse if I move it up there, but can't see anything but streaks of dark grey distortion on the rest of the black screen. Sometimes, the black area while very slowly drop down (1 pixel row at a time). Other times, it stays that way indefinitely. I've tried reinstalling the display, chipset, and power management drivers. It happens at home and on cell phone tethering, but not nearly as often. Super odd issue. It's 5 months old and still under warranty. Anyone else having this issue?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I just bought a Yoga 720, 13.3 inch from Amazon (USA) - i5, 256 gb SSD, 8 gb RAM.  Its a nice laptop but upon turning it on, the fan noise scared me completely. To add more to the woes, screen couldnt display white color properly. It would show an off white color/yellowish tint - I thought this is a defective one until i read it online that many are facing this issue. I diligently worked with Lenovo Customer Care ( slow and awful) and solved both of these issues in one click !  High Fan Noise: This problem is due to a default BIOS setting that Lenovo ships you with originally when you purchased the product ( go figure why !) Turn Laptop offLeft to the headphone jack is a small pin hole.Press the pin hole and it will show you 4 options. I'm having very inconsistent wifi performance on my Yoga 910. This has the Qualcomm Aetheros network adapter. I already installed the latest drivers from lenovo site. I also adjusted the power settings for maximum performance on both plugged in and battery. I have full signal... I'm maybe 15 feet away from my router. My phone is getting nearly 100Mb/s and my expensive new laptop is struggling to hit 2Mb/s right now. I've searched and tried any and all fixes. It seems that a restart will usually get the speed back up, but only temporarily. I check resources and don't see any process or service using the wifi, yet the speed tanks like crazy. As an example, I was barely able to hit 2Mb, restarted and now its hitting 150Mb every time. After about 5 minutes, speeds are back down to 2-5Mb tops. What's going on here? -- Ed

A:Yoga 910 wifi issue

I'm experiencing WLAN performance issues as well. See the issues section in my review of the 910.

Are you also seeing WHEA-logger errors being reported in the Event Viewer? Does it help if you connect using the 2.4GHz band instead of the 5GHz band?

There's clearly something wrong, but whether it's really the hardware or the driver software is difficult to tell at this point. I've put a service call into Lenovo. I'll see what that brings.

I recently purchased a P40 Yoga and am happy with it, however I have problem with my Wifi + Bluetooth which I have not had before. I have always used Bluetooth and Wifi together with no problems. THE PROBLEM:When I turn on my Bluetooth, Wifi disconnects immediately. No networks are found anymore.  I have been using the same Wifi connection, so no changes there. I assume this is not an interference problem, because it has always worked great, so it must be a software problem. I also noticed that I have quite a weak connection although I'm close by the router What I have done:- Uninstalled Bluetooth and let windows reinstall- Reinstalled driver for Wifi- Install lastest driver for Wifi from Intel (19.20)- Checked router (channels [due to interference], proximity, etc.) What else could I do?

I have purchased two yoga 720 15 4ks from Best Buy, one which shipped from out of state and one I bought in state after the first one had issues. Both developed a screen issue of some sort of black bar appearing on the top right corner of the screen. The display model at Best Buy had the same problem. Does anyone know what this is, and has anyone else had this problem?

A:Yoga 720 Display Issue

Hi Maihu,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Specially if the same black line appears even in the BIOS, you can initially contact Best Buy for options on return with the  store's return policy for a faster return/replacement. If that option is not available then call technical support for in-warranty repair option.

Hope this helps answer your query.

Hello All, After the last Win 10 Anniversary update, my wifi speed is terrible. I am using  100 mbit connection i did have any problems before the update. After it the speed drops to 3 mbit . I am sure it is a problem related with the new Intel WIFI drives. So can i ask to recommend a driver version for win 10 with which I can fix this speed drops. My details are following: Model: Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265   date of the driver: 14-Jul-16 version of the driver : 19.1.0.4 Best Regards,Alex

I'm using a USB-C to HDMI adapter (using the DisplayPort over USB standard, not an older DisplayLink type) to use an external display on the Yoga 730 and it has issues when running as 2 separate displays (everything works fine when mirroring or using only the external display). If you set the graphics settings to "extend these displays" the Windows 10 shell seems to wedge itself (can interact with already running apps, but cannot start new apps or use the taskbar/start menu) and the bottom of each display flickers (looks like a flickering ghost taskbar). I don't suspect a hardware issue with the adapter because it works perfectly in mirroring or single-display mode; instead I suspect a graphics driver bug. Others that use this adapter on other PCs have no problems. I'd love to try a newer version of the Intel 620 graphics driver but it won't install (it says it's incompatible with this system and to contact the computer manufacturer)... Lenovo's customized version of the driver is 4 months old. I have all the latest drivers installed via Lenovo Vantage, Intel's web interface (it only installed newer Wifi and Bluetooth drivers), and Windows Update. The laptop is running Windows 10 1803 17134.112 (2018 Creator's update).

I don't know if this will help you or not, but when I upgraded my yoga 2 pro to windows 10, I had to go into device manager and manualy update the graphics drivers. Windows would not do it automatically. Maybe that would help fix your issue.

This is a dimming issue for me with the WQHD (2560 x 1440) IPS Touch. When i first boot the PC for the day, the screen is usually about a 75% brightness. Using the brightness adjustment allows for further dimming the screen but the true 100% brightness is not acheived. I will list how I was able to restore the 100% brightness (but its not holding between all reboots).  1. Rolling back the Intel 520 driver will restore the screen to 100% brightness. But on a reboot, it is back to the 75% dim issue. 2. Updating the driver through the device manager will restore the screen to 100% brightness. But again, on a reboot it is back to the 75% dim issue. 3. Uninstalling all of the 520 Video Drivers and rebooting returns the screen to 100% brighness. 4. I installed the 520 Video drivers from the Thinkpad site and after a reboot, the screen is holding at 100% brightness. 5. I went into my system properties and disabled Windows 10 from updating device drivers for now.  I can not be sure that this is simply a driver issue with the Intel 520 Video. Yesterday, after going through the above process minus disabling the driver updates in Windows 10, I did a clean install and the system ran great (Bright) all day and reboots returned to a full 100% brightness. Then the next day at the days first boot, the dimmness issue returned. As stated, the above listed process has the briightness back at the moment, surviving reboots.  I am concerned that th... I recently replaced my Lenovo Yoga 2 pro touch display, it was cracked and touch went crazy, the crack was from the side which made it usable by disabling the touch drivers. After a while i decided to replace the screen and get back the touch feature. but now i'm suffering that i cannot use it in tablet mode for the following reasons: After screen replacement, when lid is closed it thinks that it is in tablet mode and screen stays on and doesn't go to sleep mode as it was before replacement, while if I put it in tablet position screen goes off and it goes to sleep mode thinking it is in closed lid position (i think). if i just  lift it up only 2 mm from tablet position it gets back on.Please advise !!

I picked up a 13 inch FHD Lenovo Yoga 720 (720-13IKB) and love absolutely everything about it except some extremely bad ghosting / screen tearing. I first noticed it when I loaded up Spelunky, where it is incredibly obvious because of how fast the character can run left and right. I've tried everything to figure this out - adjusted Intel graphics settings, researched vsync settings, updated drivers, turned off Windows effects, played with executable compatibility settings, and so on and so forth. Nothing seems to help. I noted in the other "display issues" thread that the panel ended up being the culprit, a BOE panel. This panel is also a BOE - BOE06FA. I found one mention of this on notebookcheck regarding screen brightness. They note a "panel lottery" going on with this model, where some get LG panels and some are getting BOE panels. Everything else seems fine (no line). I would really love it if there were some fix I've overlooked, but I thought I would ask here if anyone else is experiencing this on this model, and if they've gotten it fixed if so. Is it possilbe to send it in for repair and request or get a different panel? Really, really don't want to have to return it, but also can't have a machine that will give me a headache playing Spelunky!

Something odd.  I got the Windows 10 Anniversary Update a couple of days ago (Aug 3 2016).I usually keep my screen resolution at 1600x900 (easier on my aging eyes for everyday use). Now I have noticed that when I reboot, my login screen is garbled - only the top-left quarter of the login screen can be seen.  I need to shutdown and restart, and then all is fine. This only happens after a full reboot (not a hibernate), and only seems to be the 1600x900 resolution. 3200x1800 (the native resolution) and 1920x1080 do not seem to exhibit this issue.Note that all three of the above-mentioned resolutions have the same aspect ratio Any ideas?  Is it just me? Thanks!

Hello, I've had my new yoga L380 for two days and am noticing that when it charges with supplied 65w USB C charger, both the power adapter brick and the laptop get very hot. The adapter itself gets almost too hot to hold in the hand. The laptop (i5) highest temp I have seen while charging was 85C, even though CPU load was only ~30%. Once it stops charging it cools down.I also had an issue during charging that the wifi connection dropped and I could not re-connnect to any other network, so it appeared that the heat was affecting the wifi module somehow. Troubleshooting gave no possible software issues and other devices were connected to the same wifi network. Is this normal? What kind of temps should I be expecting?I would be ok with slower charging if this prevents the issue but if something is wrong with my battery or charger I need to know. Thanks in advance.

I currently have a Qualcom Wireless AC Card in my Yoga 920. When I change wifi networks, I don't always get the internet going right away (we have 2 networks at home and several different networks in the office). I would need to right click on the wifi icon in the task bar and click on troubleshoot, then wait for it to fix itself. This happens probably 90% of the time when I change networks (ie Home network, then when at the office, I connect to the Work network and have to perform the troubleshoot to get the internet going then vice versa when back home. Or even changing between our 2 different Home networks - as in from different ISPs and not just changing between 2.4 and 5ghz connection). Also, is there something wrong with Chrome for the 920? When I change networks, and get the internet going (as in the wifi icon property says that there is internet and the yellow triangle exclamation is not present anymore), google chrome does not automatically connect to the internet and load pages. Edge, on the other hand, does not have issues upon gaining internet connection after the troubleshoot. For reference, I have a custom built desktop. I have an Intel AC 8265 in it, and it does not have this issue when switching between our home networks and chrome does not any issue as well. So yeah, I have two issues. Any ideas?

My laptop is getting worse and almost unusable with Chrome and the built-in laptop display screen. When there is any kind of modal popup/foreground window you can see the text but the background color goes transparent making it impossible to see what is going on. Scrolling makes it worse usually. If I plug in my external monitor it works fine, it's just an issue on the laptop screen. If I use Microsoft Edge it seems to be fine or if I shrink the window it seems to be ok. I have tried to download all the latest display drivers with no luck. I even paid for Lenovo premium support and the couldn't even figure it out! Am I the only one???

Hey guys,

I am having two issues with my laptop.

1.  When my laptop is running on battery (no matter which power option I choose) the screen will go black or flicker if I stop moving my mouse.  The moment I move it goes back to being fine but if I let go it flickers.

2.  When I put my computer to sleep and then turn it back on later, the wireless card just stops working.  I get a red x on the wifi icon in my toolbar and it will not show any networks, even if I  Disable/Re-enable the wireless card.

I have already deleted the graphic card drivers and wireless drivers and reinstalled. My laptop is has a dedicated graphic card but it also uses the onboard graphic card.  Let me know if you have any other questions.

i received a yoga 720-151kb december 2017 (~ 12/5/17).approximately 4 - 5 weeks ago, the yoga's screen/display began dimming unexpectedly. the errant dimming occurs when the flipbook is operating on battery and plugged in...there is no telling when the errant dimming will occur. [i am experiencing random 'blue screen microsoft os' issues as well but that's a different post...]attached are two (2) photos of the screen/display this morning after it dimmed unexpectedly.a temporary 'fix' is to make the screen 'go black' (by pressing the f11 key). again, it is a temporary fix because it is unknown as to when (!) the errant dimming will occur.fwiw: i have installed the recommended updates (from lenovo, microsoft) as they come through and continue to do so. i have modified power options, disabled 'auto' options, etc., to no avail because the errant dimming continues.a lengthy chat with anupriya of live assistance (UGH!), yielded more questions than answers on my behalf. anupriya directed me to "...download and install the driver to see if this fixes the issue" and "...recommend making sure that Windows is updated to the latest version as this can fix many issue" [those are direct quotes from the chat window]if any other yoga 720-151kb owner is experiencing this exact issue and resolved it successfully, will you please share here the exact steps you took so that i may do so as well? advance thanks!errant dimmed screen photo #1 errant dimmed screen photo #2

I have Dell Inspiron 5547 laptop (Touch Screen, 15 inches, 16 GB RAM and i7 4th Gen processor, Out of Warranty). Some days back, suddenly the display went dim and anything is hardly visible. After some initial investigation, the display chip (may be VGA or LED display chip) on the motherboard appears to be burnt out (may be due to voltage surge). Even the numbers printed on the chip is not readable because of which it is difficult for the local repairing shops to repair this problem.
I think Dell India Service Center doesn't deal with chip level repair and hence replacing motherboard is the only way they can fix this. This will be very costly (considering that the laptop is not under warranty so will have to pay for warranty extension, motherboard replacement and repair service) and time consuming.
Hence, to avoid all this I have come here to seek some assistance.
If there are anyone using the same laptop (Inspiron 5000 series 5547 Touch Screen Display with i7 4th Gen Processor and 16 GB RAM) then could you please take a clear picture of your laptop's motherboard or if you recognize the display chip then only that should be sufficient. In this case, I can read the chip related number from the image and try to repair it.
What are the charges for buying a warranty for the laptop, motherboard of my laptop and repairing charge?

Request your response and help.

Rohit Kumar

A:Display Issue - Dim Display for Dell Inspiron 5000 (Model 5547) - Touch Screen Display with i7 4th Gen Processor and 16 GB RAM

You'll have to call Dell about the possibility of a warranty extension;  in the US, it's sometimes possible but will likely run over $300 -- or about what a board replacement would cost.
If you're getting video, the GPU is OK -- and it's more likely the power circuit to the backlight that's bad.  It'll likely cost as much to repair as to replace the board -- though you'll still be putting $300-400 into an out of warranty system, so replacing the system may be a better idea (if you do this, consider buying a 3-year warranty with the next system).

If so, have a look on the following post, this should show if your device has been tested with the update yet:

From what I can see, your unit does not seems to have made the list, which leads me to believe that this will be the cause of the issue, I would recommend that you revert back to the previous version of Windows, and observe if the fault still occurs or not.

Now I know which brand not to buy next time.

When i was using windows 8 the wifi was good and would never get disrupted. But i updated to windows 8.1 and now when am downloading something the wifi gets disconnected and wont show the network even if the router is on and my phone is still connected to it.I have to toggle the wifi on and off for some 6-7 times and then toggle airplane mode on and off for 3-4 times to get it to discover the network. Is this because of the adapter or driver and my laptop has a ralink wifi adapter. What should i do?Thanks

I upgraded my friends HP laptop to Windows 10. The issue now is I can't enable Wifi. The card is recognized correctly in Device manager and no issues is found with it. It looks like it is fine. However in the Network Settings WLAN is set to "Off" and when I try to turn it on it always jumps right back to off. eg. I can't enable it.

HP is now help as they clearly state any laptop bought prior to specific date in 2013 will not get any driver updates from their side for windows 10. (Guys, never buy HP again please...). And updating through device manager only tells me it's the newest driver available.

The Wifi card i Broadcom 4313GN card. I searched for win 10 drivers but did not find anything. They only offer linux drivers on their homepage...

So can anyone either provide a solution to the issue or link to a win 1' driver for this wifi card?

A:Dreaded Win10 WiFi Issue: Can't enable WiFi after Upgrade

I had a similar issue were I was stuck in Aeroplane mode on a cleanly installed W10. Turned out I had to uninstall it from the HID's in Device manager. It's worth checking that he's not stuck in it too. Search for drivers in Windows 7, from the HP website and you'll most likely resolve the issue.

I have issues connecting my Laptop to the Wifi router in my house, however, there are no issues connecting to other routers? You would therefore assume that the issue lies with the router at my house. However, every other device and laptop connects to the router at my house with no issues at all. So it seems to be specific to the combination of my laptop and the router at my house. I have been having these issues ever since I downloaded Windows 10. I fixed it initially by downloading an old driver for the Wifi on my laptop. This fix lasted for about 3 months but since the latest windows update, the issue has come back. The issue is intermittent wifi where it shows I am connected to the Wifi but then the internet doesn't work. It says "DNS probe cannot be found" when running troubleshooter and then it resets the wifi on my laptop. This can temporalily fix it, sometimes for 2 seconds. Sometimes for 2 hours. But then the issue comes back. Does anyone have any clue what the issue might be or how I might fix it? Sometimes, when I run the troubleshooter, it says that I have missing protocols. But then this doesn't happen every time. I have tried a variety of fixes that I have read up on in forums but none seem to work permantly. One thing I haven't tried is a clean install of windows 10 which is something I am very reluctant to do and also, have my doubts as to whether it would actually resolve the issue.
Many thanks,
Joe

A:Wifi issue specific to my laptop and home wifi

It all depends on location, location, location. Some Gateways are just garbage. If you are not getting a strong enough signal, get an Access Point. Also you need to make sure that you are not on a congested channel, which is usually Channels 6 & 11 for 2.4 Ghz units.

Hi: It appears that HP has removed that driver I posted from the support site. See if this one works for you... This package provides the Broadcom Wireless LAN drivers for supported notebook models running a supported operating system. Broadcom Wireless LAN drivers are required to enable the integrated Broadcom Wireless LAN adapter. Released: Mar 16, 2016Version 7.35.344.0 Rev.A File name: sp75249.exe

Has anyone else seen this problem? I have external VGA display 1920x1080, in Win10 it is set as primary display. Both Intel and Radeon video adapters are enabled. Most of Win10 "modern" aka "metro" apps (Mail, Store) fail to render correctly when their window is bigger than the built-in LCD (1366x768).At least it looks like this. When I resize these apps more than certain size, the added area does not render and stays transparent or filled by background color.Moving the window around, further resize does not help. This behaviour started in version 1708 and still continues after 1803 update.   Please advice how to fix this. Very annoying. Thanks,Pavel A.

I started having issues yesterday, the day after I installed teamviewer a program that is on my iPad also to remotely control the laptop. At first the screen started freezing when I was in the middle of a Java game. So I restarted the laptop only to have it freeze at the main screen (after login).

The screen would freeze the display would change to a very low resolution (I think). So I kept restarting it only to repeat. Until eventually once past the windows logo the screen would turn black and blank. Sometimes the display would turn on black and blank and other times it would do that after the logo.

A few times I managed to get it to go into safe mode and I restored to a few days ago but it made no difference, I also tried many other things like changing some settings but nothing worked.

So after like 2 or 3 hours I Rolled back and disabled "nvidia quadro nvs 135m" (since I read it might be causing the issue and I should uninstall it which I couldn't), once I disabled it I restarted the computer and made it to the main screen without issues, and I could even load my game. I enabled it again And restarted the computer only to have the same issues so I disabled it again after finally getting into safe mode.

I don't know if it works fine now, I left it on at most for 5-10 minutes without any issues and I never actually logged into the game to see if it works.

I figured out that in my display settings instead of showing my main monitor it only sho... Read more

Upon awakening I show as connected to the router with strong signal, but it shows as having "No Internet". If I try to swtich to a different router OR channel it connects and still shows as "No Internet" and I cannot access the internet. Must restart. When I restart, I now have to log in twice. It looks like it works the first time, but returns me to log-in screen where I have to log in again, then it works. In all these cases the only thing I can do is reboot the computer and it connects normally. This means 3-4 reboots per day
