Pentium 4 CPU average temperature?

Q: Pentium 4 CPU average temperature?

Hi. I am trying to find out what an average temperature for a Intel Pentium 4 Processor should be. According to Everest Pro My Motherboard (Intel Bonanza) 35?C (95?F) and the CPU 45 ?C (113 ?F), but when I encode video or run a scan my CPU goes to about 52?C (125?F) . I am not sure if this is normal or not. Any info will be appreciated?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello all,
I have an Asus motherboard P5Ld2 with Intel socket 775 3.0 hypertreading,3 Gb of ram, 2 Sata hard drive, Asus EN6600 256Mb videocard.standard intel cpu fan with 3 case fan.
My temperature for the board is average 38 degrees C and for my cpu between 50 degrees to 70 degrees. Is this normal?
Lately i noticed that my computer was extremely slow at times.Should i buy a better cpu fan?
If so, any suggestion?
Thank you for answering.

A:average cpu temperature

First off, what Intel CPU do you have (sorry, I can't tell what cpu it takes from looking at the model # like some members :unch: )? In some cases this is normal, and in some this isn't. You board temp is fine overall, I just wonder about the cpu.

Hello all!

Some of you may know me. Like my software and WinSxS (I love the way WinSxS all fits together!) but am utterly clueless about the hardware. Please forgive me this question!

I have a DESKTOP PC which is NOT overclocked in any way. It is reasonably powerful (see specs) and is a Dell. However, it is used to the extremes of its ability - regularly.

I would just like to ask you what the temperatures you would consider good, warm, and hot for both the GPU and CPU. I know the GPU can get quite hot, but I would please like to know how hot, so that I can learn.

I have a feeling that mine are quite hot. Most of the time I get:

CPU: 52 degrees Centigrade (C)
GPU: 128 C

These seem awfully hot. Putting my hand on the GPU plastic casing after use makes me think that these are not anomalous!

Thanks so much in advance!

Richard

EDIT: All of the fans have been confirmed as working, and it has good airflow all around, and always has had.

A:At what temperature does an average CPU and GPU become too hot?

Hello Richard, I am not really knowledgeable in this area & can only reflect on my own research so that i can monitor my own temps which basically indicates 70 degrees C and below in both cases as being comfortable temps.

In posts i have read concern is usually expressed in 80c+, your CPU looks fine mine runs at 50-65 & max 72c under heavy load. I use Core temp to monitor which also has overheat protection

http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/

The tjmax is the CPU manufacturers max temp (assume critical) & safe temps to be 15c-20c below this.

As far as your GPU it looks extremely hot but i do not have a solution for you other than cleaning & extra cooling which i am sure you are already aware of. (my desktop has settings in the BIOS for the fan)

Hi everyone,I want to ask yoga 910 owners what is their average CPU temperature? As for me, my laptop is very hot guy, when I do nothing - like now while writing this text with 10 open tabs and almost nothing in background, CPU has t=55C, with  10-15 CPU load. But in my daily work I open Word, Excel, some specific programs, 20+ tabs in firefox and sometimes listenning to music. In this situation CPU load doesn't very high - 40%-50% in general, but temperature rises to 60-70C and could be 90+ in peak. Is it normal? My previous Asus wasn't so hot.PS. I have i7 version with FHD monitor, latest bios in "balance mode" and "better perfomance" in Windows power mode.

I own an A8-5500 and its average temperature is 60 - 65 Centigrades, and sometimes, when im playing games (For example: Bioshock Infinite), the game crashes... and both the GPU (Nvidia 9800GT) and the CPU get really hot.

What should i do to fix the temperature problem if it actually is a problem?

A:Is 65C a good average temperature for a CPU?

Do you mean that the CPU is above 60C at idle? That seems hot.

Does the CPU heatsink get hot? It should. If not, it may be in poor thermal contact with the CPU. One thing to try would be reseating the heatsink, after replacing the thermal compound.

What is the average temprature??

the reason for asking i was thinking of over clocking it a bit with Rivatuner but i dont have much fans only the PSU one case fan holes thats in the case alot a CPU Fan and of course the fan thats on the card right now according to speed fan it always runs at 43c-45c most of the time idk how to check whiles playing games but yeah

A:Whats the average Temperature for a geforce 9600 gt?

i was not aware that ''speedfan'' would detect GPU temperature..??

the highest you want to take any GFX card for 24/7 use is about 75-80c, it will do 90c for short bursts, but anything under 80c is fine for load....

if your card is @ 45c idle then im guessing load wont be that high, so there's a little OCing room there, but the increase in performance is going to be very small, on a card like that you wont even notice a difference in the real world IMO...

The short:
I've paired a D 920 with the Intel 945GPM board (mATX) in my first HTPC project. The chassis is an nMediaPC 200, which is little cramped, but not so bad - there's lots of ventilation slots on the top, sides, back exhaust, etc. but I am concerned it's a little (a lot?) too hot for my liking.

The long:
The problem in trying to evaluate what to do/improve/replace - I don't know what temp monitor is actually accurate--
In Intel's Utlity "Hardware Monitor" (Windows XP MCE 05) it reads as this (at idle):
"Processor Zone Temp" 50C
"System Zone 1" 42C
"System Zone 2" 42C
"Processor Fan" 2550 RPM
Which is all "in the green" - But the BIOS sings a slightly different story (at idle/sitting in BIOS):
"Processor Temp" 63C
"Internal Temp" 47C
"Remote Temp" 45C
"Processor Fan" 2640 RPM

Everything is about 2-4C cooler when the top/cover is removed - so I'm not TOO worried about overall case ventilation. (I let things idle for about 10 minutes in each state before writing down readings)

To confuse matters more, this chassis comes with a front LCD panel with 2 temps sensors, but they are both in Farenheit and when converted come out 10-20 degrees cooler than both Windows and BIOS temp readings above...
I've tried the attached the "CPU" sensor in two places, 1st shoved as far into the fins on HS as possible, and... Read more

hi,
i have a couple of questions. i have an asus p5rd1-v mobo and a pentium 4 - 2.66 cpu installed with fan. the mobo has a temperature and fan speed monitor installed. the cpu temperature shows 113 degrees f. and the system temperature (inside case showls about 80 f). someone told me that it is too hot. so, i installed another fan and now the stable temperature is about 109 degrees f. is this ok? or is it too hot?
my second question:
how can i overclock my cpu on the mobo setup? when i go there, it is grayed out. or maybe set to automatic. the manual says it's do-able, but i haven't figured it out yet. any ideas?

A:proper temperature for pentium 4 - 2.66 ghz?

I'm used to seeing the temps in C but that doesn't sound hot at all. My PC has a 3.0GHz P4 that idles at around 45C and maxes out at 60C under load.

OC settings would be in the BIOS, you may need to switch the auto configuration to manual. It should be covererd in the documentation.

The system requirements for InDesign CS2 specify Pentium II or 4 (no processor speed identified), Windows 2000SP2 or XP, 256 MB RAM min.

The system requirements for InDesign CS3 specify Pentium 4 (no processor speed identified), Windows XPSP2, 256 MB RAM min.

Interestingly, the box for CS2 also specifies 256 kb L2 cache min.

I have the opportunity to buy a Dell Inspiron 6000 with a Pentium M processor (1.5 Ghz), 512 MB RAM, Windows XP/Pro.

I checked the specs of the Pentium M processor on the Intel website, but for this product, cache is specified differently (not as L2). There are 3 different models of 1.5 Ghz M processors, with cache specified at either 1 or 2 MB.

So, my question is:

What does the M cach spec mean, and is it equivalent to L2, or, if not, will the M cach spec work as well as the more traditional L2 cache for an application such as InDesign?

Thanks for your help.

A:Pentium III vs Pentium 4 vs Pentium M and Adobe InDesign

Sorry I cannot tell you what this M thing stands for...To be honest I have never seen something like that before...But I can tell you that all Pentium M CPUs have -as you already said- 1m to 2mb of L2 cache. But do not bother checking all this cache stuff, in my opinion you should check for a machine with more Ram and a better CPU. I believe it will suit better your needs. I have seen a lot of cheap laptops with 1gb of RAM and Core Duo or Core 2 Duo CPUs. By the way all Core 2 CPUs have at least 2mb of cache.

I'm absolutely certain you won't be able to do that, period. That newer Pentium Dual Core is not in any way, backwards compatible with your motherboard.

Well, it is the same socket. So, it would go in, but it surely won't run. Intel 915 chipset is 32 bit only. Thus, you couldn't even go forward to Cedar Mill core P-4s, which are 64 bit.

Just want to let everyone know (for useful future information).  That I finally upgraded a Dell E510 I had from a Pentium 4 3.0 GHz Prescott HT to a Pentium D 3.4 GHz.  And the improvements were remarkable.  Computer specs were 4 GB of RAM,  ATI 512 MB 4670.  With that and the Pentium 4, I was unable to play StarCraft II with detailed graphics.  There was lag, and 15-20 FPS was considered smooth.  Now, FPS can get as high as 60 FPS when nothing is going on or small battles and 25+ FPS while big battles (4 versus 4).  And that is with more detailed shaders and better textures and models.  My other games run much smoother as well.
The exact model I got was a Pentium D 945 3.4 GHz, LGA 775, Model - SL9QQ.  Full information is in the link below.

I thought this might be useful in the future for people trying to figure out if this is worth it.  And it is.  You can find one on eBay for less than 40 American Dollars with shipping.  And most sellers offer DOA warranty, so you probably will not get ripped off.  I even saw some sellers offer 60 day warranty.   Just keep in mind these are used and are not new, but they are working fine, and the one I got was used but in perfect condition.  Plus, the... Hi,
I have a computer purchased back in '98 running a Pentium II 300 mghrtz chip. I recently purchased a Pentium II 450 and installed it, however the computer still is only running at 300. I know that jumpers and/or bus speeds need to be changed, but I don't know how. I looked all through the BIOS and can't find anything that refers to bus speed. I have changed the jumpers around but the system runs at 300 no matter what the jumpers are set at. The motherboard is a M6TLC, and I have the manual, but cannot seem to find out how to change the bus speed. There are jumper setting diagrams, but none that refer to a 450 mghrtz processor, and changing them does nothing anyway.
I wanted to up the speed on this old machine, put in a new bigger hard drive, put WINxp (it now runs 98se) on it and use it for backups. I'm beginning to think that this processor upgrade can't be done, but any advice would surely be appreciated.
Thanks,

Does an equation exist to work out the increase in temperature?

Please don't laugh, but I am still using a Pentium 1 (233MMX) machine as my main everyday computer (running Win98SE). I have made several attempts to upgrade to P2 and P3 over the years, but each time I have had to go back, because the P1 always seemed much faster online (dial-up), even when the upgrade was to a machine running identical software and the same external modem.

The P1 is rapidly dying, and less and less of its software is working, so I have set up a Pentium 3 with Win 2000 Pro and all software installed. I did careful tests this time, checking download speeds on zip and jpg files (to check actual speed) and large html-only files (to check compression), and found the Pentium 3 to be as good as, or a bit faster than the P1.

I made the change-over yesterday, but as soon as I go to eBay pages, for example, it is "watching paint dry" time! In every test (clearing the cache between each one) the P3 is 25% to 95% SLOWER than the old machine. I've checked and double-checked that all relevant settings are the same, and tried every tweak I can find, but no matter what I do, the old machine is ALWAYS faster on real-world web pages. My browser is SeaMonkey on both machines, though on previous attempted upgrades it would have been Internet Explorer.

This makes absolutely no sense to me, but unless I can find out what the problem is, I am just going to have to stick to the Pentium 1, for online use at least. Can anyone suggest a rational explanati... Read more

A:Why is a Pentium 1 faster than Pentium 3 online?

The Internet speed is not governed by your computer
It is changed only by the Modem connection and your Server.

I suspect the differences were due to the newer system caching more in system bios (or in Windows) this copying process may quicken (or slow down) your Internet pages from displaying.

Also you cannot get a true reading, as both computers are too different.
There could be lots of other reasons (Firewall; Antivirus the list goes on)

By the way lots of Linux servers (firewall) use P1

Is that the max CPU temp or max CPU core temp???

While testing, Highest CPU temp was 53C (@3.8GHz, IntelBurn) and Core temp was 59C....

So which one shall I look out for?

I don't know if this question has been answered here or not because the words are a little difficult to do specific searches for. I am thinking of making for myself a file server. It's going to be cheap because it's main purpose is the processing of files from a centralized location. As such, I know I want processing power; but, I know I don't need a Core. As such, I'm sticking with a Pentium. I got the choice narrowed down to a Pentium Dual-Core. But, as I was researching the Pentium, I found out that the Dual-Core was re-branded to just a Pentium with dual-core features. My main question is is there a difference between the Pentium Dual-Core and the Pentium with dual-core features? I'm choosing between an ASUS P5G41C-M LX and a P5KPL-AM EPU. I wouldn't have gotten confused except that I'm buying these off of NewEgg and one motherboard has the Dual-Core capitalized while the other has the dual-core in lower cased letters.

In my sheet I am using conditional formating to return 4-color traffic lights (using number 0-3). At the bottom of each colum I want the average of all number 1-3, excluding any 0s. I am using the formula =AVERAGEIFS(I3:I8,I3:I8,"<=3",I3:I8,">=1").

This is providing the correct answer unless it is a column of all 0s. How can I have the current formula I am using but also if the answer is #DIV/0! for it to return a zero instead of the error message?

An example of what I am doing is attached. Thanks for your help.

A:Average If and #DIV/0!

Got the desktop working recently, but I'm a tad concerned, the CPU at idle sits

in the 29-32C range and goes up to about 40C when I'm playing Microsoft Train

Simulator with [email protected] and other apps in the background. The CPU is at stock

speeds and Rambo says his maxes at 45C and his is at 3.03GHz.

Do I need a case fan to help get the air circulating in the tower box?

Hi all I was just wondering what the safe operating temp. on a video card under load with the higher end games and video cards. thanks!

A:Average heat on a GPU

That depends on the GPU and the cooling methods used.

If you are looking for comparison figures, it would be helpful if you provided us with the GPU specifications in your machine.

I've been blowing through graphics cards about every 12 months. Even with my new system it's been the same. I do play a lot of graphic intensity games. Could that be the reason for their early demise? The latest casualty is my GTX 560.

A:The average life of a GPU

A GPU's lifespan is at least 3-5 years. Hell, if you take care of your components it will last as long as you need it to in most cases. The fact that your GPU's are dieing in a year is strange. If this has indeed happened to all of your GPU's it is safe to say that the operating conditions inside your PC may not be too good. Or, you may just be burning them out? Do you SUPER overclock them or something? What sort of operating temps do you usually get?

Hi all! Would you all please tell me what is the temperature range that your P50 or P70 typically operates at?   It would also be great if you could measure it under average office use, internet browsing, plus maybe picture/video editing or low-to-mid-level gaming (if you do those sorts of things).  Also, to circumvent potential confusion, please denote what machine you have and in what scale you are getting these temp readings.

I did a search and found 2 similar named threads, but neither seemed to pretain, so, I'm starting a new thread.

I'm a computer consultant, but I've run into an interesting situation. I have a WinXP Pro system 3.4ghz LGA processor 1 gig of DDR400 ram, 2 100+ gig HDs, a CD Burner, and a DVD/CD Reader, Nvidia GeForce 5700LE (256) video, SP2, and all latest updates installed.

Many programs installed. I've got Norton AV Corporate 8, AVG Free 7.0.323, Spybot 1.4, Adaware 1.06r1, Spyware Blaster 3.4, with all the lastest updates. Adaware found 7 tracking cookies, Spybot says I'm clean, Blaster is updated with no errors/problems. AVG and Norton run daily and show no virii.

What is occuring is when I leave my system sit with any program running either in the background or foreground, for 20 minutes or more, the system will bog down. When I check the Task Manager, it shows Explorer.exe floating between 48-50%, with memory jumping around. 160,000 - 280,000K, thought it was climbing but watched it and it keeps fluctuating. System.exe is showing 30-40%. It doesn't matter what program I may leave running, from WinMX to MS Word 2003.

The only way to clear it is to log out. I don't have to reboot, just log out of the shell. Logging back in and the system runs great. Now, if I have say WinMX going, typing a report in Word, have IE going doing a search... moving around the system, active, the system seems to run fine, I don't notice any slow-down, but if I leav... A:Explorer.exe using on average 50% CPU

Think I would try an online virus scan to make sure Norton and AVG have not missed something. I would also try Mirosoft Anti Spyware.

There are indexing programs that run to index the hard drive when it thinks the system is idle. Microsoft Office comes with find fast. Some of the desktop search programs use this also. Check msconfig for these programs and uncheck them.
