I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Version 4.18
Released on 28 May 2015.
A security hole with the Windows print spooler has been plugged. An application could use the print spooler to write an arbitrary file outside the sandbox. If Sandboxie detects that the print spooler is attempting to write a file outside the sandbox at the request of a sandboxed application, it will issue "SBIE1319 Blocked spooler print to file".
NOTE: Some printer drivers write temporary files to their own work area, even when not printing to file. In these cases, you will get SBIE1319 even when printing normally (not to file). The print may still print successfully. In this situation, you can safely ignore SBIE1319, hide the error message, or open the folder as described below.

There are 3 ways to allow the print spooler to print to file:

1) If you trust the process that is printing, you can double-click the SBIE1320 (that follows SBIE1319) to allow the print spooler to write files outside the sandbox for that particular process. 2) The spooler can write files outside the sandbox according to OpenFilePath settings. This enables you to permanently open the folders a particular printer driver uses to store its work files. 3) You can manually add the setting AllowSpoolerPrintToFile=y to sandboxie.ini. This is not recommended as it leaves your sandbox open to a print spooler exploit.
Any error msgs generated when auto-deleting a sandbox will now be shown to the user.

Hello everyone.
It seems Qihoo 360 products has a lot of bugs lately and i explain what i mean:

INTERNET SECURITY:
- Real time protection seems to work good AFTER 2-3 system restart.
- I've test 360IS with sandboxie or browser in Comodo sandbox and it doesn't detect anything (only on demand scan)
- Web protection doesn't work on Mozilla or Mozilla based browsers.
- Removal speed is very slow and guess what..........during removal there is a possibility to get BSOD!!!
360 IS detected all samples but I got my first BSOD when i was trying to remove those samples found here:
http://malwaretips.com/threads/expl...ped-files-2015-02-24.42775/page-2#post-353653
TOTAL SECURITY:
King of bugs
- I've test it with sandboxie or browser in Comodo sandbox and it doesn't detect anything (only on demand scan)
- Web protection doesn't work on Mozilla or Mozilla based browsers.
- Everytime i wanted to add a program to whitelist or open the sandbox window to erase active programs Total Security was stop responding
- Memory usage was stuck on 200 - 240MB (with BD engine active only)
- Be careful of ''system optimization'' tool as it found windows system restore unnecessary and it prompt me to disable.......

Until all these fixed i will use another Vendor.

Using 64-bit Windows 8.1 Pro with an automatically updated Firefox, currently version 40.0.2.

Start up Firefox and...nothing. Check Process Explorer and see Firefox is there. Try to start up TCPview and...nothing. Decide to go back to Process Explorer and kill off Firefox - before I get that far - SHAZAAM! - TCPview starts, Firefox responds with browser window - all as it should be.

This has been the behavior for awhile now, admittedly intermittently but none-the-less a relatively new bad behavior.

And the REAL problem is hinted at by that TCPview issue up above - Firefox is freezing the whole system solid after a moment or two (Process Explorer can be run within that moment and displays dynamic results, windows can be switched to, but new processes (minimal testing) apparently cannot be started in a timely manner).

There are other complaints around the 'Net noting this type of behavior.

So...anyone know the reason for such powerful failure? (this should slow Firefox itself, not the entire system)

A:Latest couple Firefox versions slow/freeze whole system

Quick followup - this may be an Avast problem, not a Firefox problem, based off of searching for symptoms on the 'Net.

i have 2 profiles, one on firefox version 24 for a few reasons, download window, old school search bar, faster
another profile is latest version of firefox for newer viewing compatibility, which I sometimes use chrome too if both firefox doesn't work.

issue is, on firefox 24, its faster compared to latest versions of firefox (even on clean profile) and to reproduce issue is rather simple. don't maximize window and drag firefox window around the screen and watch CPU usage spikes up.

for firefox 24 the usage doesnt go up at all but on latest versions of firefox (pretty much anything after ffox 26) if drag the window around for even 5sec CPU usage will spike like crazy, like its trying to render graphic or something with CPU. for both versions I have hardware acceleration disabled already so I don't think its that.

anyone know whats going on?

Hello all, I just got a new machine. Acer-5542-5462 with windows 7.

Of course it comes with the McAfee and Norton trials. Is either one worth purchasing when the trial runs out? If not, is there another AV that I can buy thats worth a darn?

I'd also like to get one or two free AVs for backup..Malwarebytes is one I'll probably get right away, any other good free ones I that you folks would recommend?

Thanks in advance!

As far as purchasing one, I don't see why you should when you can get a free program that works well. I've used Kaspersky and it was good. Now I use Microsoft Security Essentials. It's free and since it's made by Microsoft, I figure they know Windows better than most companies..

Greetings!

I have Acer Aspire 5750G. My current BIOS version is 1.07. The latest version is 1.12.

There are a few versions in between. Should I do incremental updates and reach 1.12 or should I just go direct to 1.12?

Many Thanks!

A:BIOS - Incremental updates to latest vrsn or direct update to latest?

Bios updates are cumulative, so you only need the latest.

You also don't need to update the bios unless there is a fix in it/them that fixes an issue you may be having. For the most part updating the bios is as easy as updating a driver, only if a bios update goes wrong you can't roll back to the old and you basically end up with a nice paperweight.

Hi,

Whenever I try to restore a file (right click > "Restore previous versions") that I know has recently changed, I see:
"There are no previous versions available" on the file's "Previous Versions" tab.

I've been running Windows 7 x64 Business for a long time now, and I have never seen it available for any of my files.

On "System Properties" > "System Protection", it says "On" under "Protection" for my only drive - C:. I have been able to manually create a system restore point.

I have "Restore system settings and previous versions of files" checked upon clicking the "Configure" button. 10% (93.14GB) is dedicated to "Disk Space Usage" on that same dialogue box.

Some threads have suggested that not having administrative shares enabled can prevent this service and suggest enabling it by adding a reg key, which I have done.:
Administrative share - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

TCP/IP netbios helper service is automatically starting successfully.

Any ideas how I can get this working?

TIA,

A:Previous Versions not working-There are no previous versions available

You might want to take a look at this tutorial for restoring Previous Versions in Vista. The process might be the same (or very similar) in Windows 7. How to Restore Previous Versions of a File and Folder in Vista

I can't help you with any other suggestions to get your Previous Versions working, but as a workaround in the mean time, if you need to repair or restore previous versions of any files, you can download the free app ShadowExplorer http://www.shadowexplorer.com/ which is an alternative program for Vista and Windows 7 for the Previous Versions feature that is not available for all editions.

I (stupidly and accidentally) deleted all files in my "Downloads" folder. As in, hard deleted them - not to the recycle bin.

I right-clicked the folder and picked "Properties", "Previous versions". Lo and behold, there were several previous versions. I opened the one from today, browsed through it, and it looked good - all 300+ GB of my files were there. So I went back to "Previous versions" and clicked "Restore". It managed to restore a few files, but most files it said were "missing", or that it needed "administrator access" for them. (I am obviously admin on this computer.) So I clicked "Skip" for those, and let it carry on.

After the restore process was done, it had only successfully restored about ten files. When I now click "Previous versions" for my "Downloads" folder, to at least get a list of the files that are missing, it suddenly says there are no files available! But before I did the restore, there were several restore points there. What happened?

A:Problem with previous versions: "No previous versions available"

Next time you want to recover a folder - rename the currently existing folder before restoring the old version as it will otherwise get overwritten.

Also suggest mounting system restore points and manually copying the required files. See the following software:

The download link is hard to spot. It's in the line of text just above the section headed History

I've set up a scheduled daily backup of particular data folders on my C drive. The backups are taking place as scheduled, and the latest versions of the files are appearing in the backup. But when I use Win. Explorer and right-click>Restore Previous Versions, no previous versions show up. Daily Windows restore points are also being created at startup. I am running a standalone laptop and backing up to an external 2TB drive with plenty of available space.

I have checked the following and all are correct.

Previous Versions Requirements
System Protection for the C drive in ON
Files that are not system files are included in Windows Backups.
Volume Shadow Copy - Service set to Manual (appears as 'stopped' when checked with Task Manager)
Server - Service set to Started and Automatic.
TCP/IP NetBios Helper - Service set to Started and Automatic.
Workstation - Service set to Started and Automatic.

What am I missing?

A:I.E. two versions

Windows 7 64-bit comes with both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Internet Explorer. By default, IE8 32-bit automatically runs when you start the browser from any one of the following locations: The Quick Launch toolbarThe desktopThe Start menuA hyperlink or a file type that is associated with Internet Explorer. The main difference between the two is that IE8 64-bit only runs native 64-bit ActiveX controls, and IE8 32-bit only runs native 32-bit ActiveX controls. This means that plugins like Flash that are 32-bit will only work in the 32-bit Internet Explorer. To see if you are running the 64-bit version open Internet Explorer and click on help. The version running will appear on the version line.

A:Anyone Know about .Net (Versions)?

With .net newer is not necessarily better. In theory having the latest .net framework would provide the needs of all applications but it often doesn't work that way in the real world. Many applications were designed for a specific version of .net and will fail if it is not present.

Hi,
In our application, currently we are facing a issue in our website related to print functionality of a web page (we have provided a print button on a particular web page in order to print that). In our client network we are able to print that page simply by clicking on "Print" button without getting an security warning message but in our own network we are first getting a security warning and on clicking of either yes or no, the page gets hanged. The broswer in both the cases is IE8 and all settings in internet options are same. Only difference I could see was that in former case, IE version is 8.0.6001.18702CO with cipher strength as 128-bit whereas IE version in latter case is 8.0.7600.16385 with cipher strength as 256-bit.
Just wanted to know whether this could be a possible reason for this issue or it could be some other reason like difference in firewall settings or something other?

Suggestions on this would be of great help.

Thanks in advance,
Japneet

A:Different IE 8 versions

8.0.6001.18702 CO

CO = This version has been admin-customised for a corporate environment by an administrator, using the Microsoft Internet Explorer Administration Kit .

The other version (8.0.7600.16385) has not been admin-customised.

The admin customisations could be causing the problem.

This is actually a three part post. First some background:

I build my own systems...for myself and for fun, not for profit. I have three machines: the current/newest, a five year old XP Pro build, and a Linux box.

I've been putting the 64-bit version of the RC through stress and endurance on the new system I built over the weekend (a beast). It looks good so far. I put a lot of work in and I'm wondering...I used an OEM version of XP Pro from Newegg on the older Windows box. Will Newegg, or anyone, be offering OEM disks for home builders? That would really reduce the cost of the OS...or at least make it more palatable.

The next thing is, with all this work I've put in, it would be a real pain to have to start completely from scratch again (configure RAID, install all apps, setup network and network shares etc). Is all that work wasted? Or is there a way to save the configuration? Maybe install on top of the RC?

Thanks

Im assuming your saying OEM discs - 'for Win7'...

that hasen't officially been decided yet, Im pretty sure their just going to incorperate it into one of M$'s 8-12 SKU's their coming out with, (make one an OEM-like grade of install)

I haven't done it, but yeah, im pretty sure you will have to do the whole RAID thing over again with a new install (sorry).

thanks,
Ant

Windows Update frequently wants to add security patches for various .NET versions from 1.0 through 3.5. In the interest of optimization, I'd like to delete as many old versions of .NET as I can.

Thoughts on whether this is safe? And will it stop Windows Update from trying to add security patches for versions of software I'm no longer running? They probably don't hurt anything but I'd prefer to not even install things I don't need.

A:Various .NET versions

It's safe to delete any version of MS.NET that is installed.NET Framework is not required on every system. In fact, it is needed only on systems which run a program which calls for/utilizes some version of NET, based on the way that the program was developed. In the history of using XP, I have only encountered two such programs myself...and, in each instance, the particular MS.NET version required is spelled out as a prerequisite for installing the program.I currently have two desktops. System A has NET Framework 3.5, SP1 installed...because I have nLite installed on that system and it requires Version 2.0 (Version 3.5 works in lieu of 2.0 for me), while System B has no version of MS.NET installed and works fine without it.If you want to remove all versions, then install only one or none...I suggest using the NET Framework Cleanup Tool .If NET is not installed on the system...there are no security updates to be installed for it. Just as there are security updates for the main body of XP, there are also critical security updates for key components (such as IE, WMP, NET Framework, etc.).Louis

When booting up, I'm presented with a timed screen with two options :
Windows XP home edition build 2600; and
Windows XP home edition build 2600

?

I have a feeling that this has occured from having to re-install XP due to a mysterious file becoming corrupted (HAL.dll in SYSTEM32 folder)

How can I get rid of this annoyance?

Thanks

Andy

Hi there.
I was just wondering what the difference between Windows XP Home Edition and Windows XP Media Centre 2005 are?

Reason I ask is, i'm building a PC for someone and the site I normally use don't stock Home edition in OEM any longer, and only offer the Media Centre one, and professional. But I don't need Pro one.

Will it look and work the same as the Home edition if I were to get the Media Centre one?

Thanks,

Craig

how many versions of xp pro sp2 are there? I found a version that requires no activation and validates as genuine in a secondhand store computer . Which version would it be?

A:XP Pro How many versions??

Might be a volume license copy, I don't think they need activating. I would guess the serial key will be blocked at some point - those are meant to be found in second hand shops!

First disclaimer: Relatively moderate amount of PC knowledge/experience ahead - please be gentle.
Second disclaimer: Probably did something stupid...

1. Somewhere during the defrag process (Win XP Media edition SP2), PC froze up on a screen that listed PCI Devices: "Verifying DMI Pool Data." Reboot kept coming back to this (DOS-like) screen. Was able to access startup (DOS) menus by hitting delete during the IDE Drive process.

2. Tried everything to get a reboot. Powered down and checked all internal connections. Finally, put in Win XP disks and it created a new version of WIN on a new partition. The original version now appears on D: and the reinstalled version appears on G:. The reinstalled version boots up but there are just about NO programs or files to access. I can see the original version in MY Computer but there is nothing actually there, just icons (I think).

3. My main concern is getting the files that were in My Documents (pictures, etc.) on the original version. The new version My Docs is empty. Are they gone for good?

4. Next I will want to get rid of the second install and return to my original boot up of WIN.

I am off to the computer store where they built the thing for me, but thought i would post here to get some feedback (and provide some chuckles at my obvious lack of good judgement...). Thanks for any and all info.

A:2 Versions XP on 1 PC?

and welcome to the Forum

You should be able to copy the files from the old installation My Documents folder to the new My Documents folder. You may have to take ownership to access them

I've got Vista Home Premium on my HP and it has three versions of IE: the 64 bit version, 32 bit version, and a 32 bit version without add-ons. I use FF as my default, and I know I need IE to update Windows, but are 3 versions really necessary? Can I delete at least one them without incident? The only situation I can imagine using it is if something catastrophic happens to FF and I need it to download Opera.

A:Do I really need 3 versions of IE?

No, but it depends on what you want to do. You can remove shortcuts to them easily - but removing the actual program is likely to break your Windows installation.

I ignore the 64 bit version on my system as it doesn't play Flash, I use the 32 bit version for my Microsoft stuff. The "no-addons" isn't a separate program - it's only a shortcut to run IE7 with the -extoff switch. Deleting it won't hurt anything.
