I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

There are a few topics on here reagrding driver for PCI Decive when installing win xp on Acer T671. Each topic said they found the correct driver but never posted a link to what driver it was.

I have been searching the net for hours now with no luck as what driver to install. I have tried various things and im still not any further.

On a different forum someone says:

"Download from the Acer website, the LAN driver for the T660
This will take care of the Ethernet Controller and PCI Device Drivers"

For me however this only solved the Ethernet Problem. So i have all drivers installed apart from PCI Device, which is the reason im not getting any sound.

Any help on this is appriciated.

hello & welcome to TSF ,

you can go here ( http://www.driveragent.com) and have you system scanned for free

this way you will find out what drivers you are looking for don't pay them just scan for the results !!

if your system has ATI Chipsets you can go here ( http://www.ati.com ) to get some of the drivers that you need , you will be looking for support & drivers downloads , you will have to tell them your system type and ect... but that is all automated

hello really need help, i need to know how to get wireless on my computer or if i need to buy a wireless device. please help me

A:acer aspire t671

Welcome to TSG:
To answer your question, more info is needed.
Operating system and level?
Go into device manager, look at the network adapter(s).Tell me what you have listed there.
I'll hack a bit on your model and see what I can see on the net.

Ok:It seems to indicate that you have an integrated network adapter and ethernet connection capability.
If that is really true, and your user's manaual should detail that, then to go wireless,it would seem that all you might need is,of course an existing network connection(ISP) a wireless card, again user's manual is your guide here, a wireless router and a wireless network manager(something like the default, windows zero config,or the wireless manager that would probably come with your wireless adapter card) up and running to manage your wireless connection.

I have come to upgrade my pc by adding a new Graphics card and Memory as i have done in the past on countless occassions with other pc's however this time i cant even open the case i remove the 2 screws and it looks as if it should just slide back but dosent matter what i do it wont move can anybody tell me if i am missing something so simple here

A:Solved: Acer Aspire T671

Sometimes they are difficult to remove the first few times, you may need to use the open palm of you hand, hit the side cover in a glancing blow in the direction toward the rear of the case a few times.

Acer provides no documents other than to say to remove the chassis screws, then remove the panel, no pics.

Hello. friend has the above PC. For some time now, at random intervals, it will emit a 4 second whistle (haven't heard it myself, but assume its from the mobo speaker) followed by 2 secs of silence. Desktop is frozen. Noise continues the same cycle until PC powered off. The inside is dust free and all connections seem secure. Any thoughts, please?

First, I am new to this forum and look forward to seeking answers to my computer issues!
So I will "Thank You" ahead of time for your time and help.

Okay..my issue...

I am on an Acer T671 desktop computer. Originally it came with Vista. I am trying to downgrade to XP but I am not having a smooth transition.
I ended up taking the hard drive out of the system and sticking it into an external enclosure to format the drive.

I then took it out of the external enclosure and back into the desktop. I fired up the system and slapped the XP cd into the cd-rom tray...starting going through the process and up came the following error......

" Setupdd.sys could not be loaded. Error code 7. "

I'm hoping I can get some help with this issue.

Thanks again!

A:Setupdd.sys could not be loaded Error code 7 on Acer T671

Hello KorruptKranium

I think that error means incompatible or corrupt hardware.
Did you have any problems before this install?

Disconnect all USB devices and remove all cards except the video card and try again.

If that does not help test the RAM
If you have more than one stick of RAM (256MB or more) swap them over or take one out and try again with only stick #1. If it does not help or makes things worse swap the sticks and try again with only stick #2. Running with one stick at a time will identify if you have a bad stick. Try moving the RAM to a different slot as well.

You can put either of these free programs on a floppy and test the RAM. Let them run for hours to do many passes if you can

Windows Memory Diagnostic http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

Memtest on CD ( this is a bootable CD and can be used when you cannot access an operating system)

Use your CD burner to write it onto a CD as an ISO image
Test with only one stick of RAM installed at a time

In Jan 2008, I bought a new Acer desktop PC Aspire T671 with 1GB RAM installed. It has been failing quite regularly around once a week. I sent the PC back to Acer. They reformatted my hard-disk and sent it back to me. Whereas before, the PC would freeze in the middle of some work, now it only fails at start-up - it simply does not boot up; I can hear the fan running but nothing on the display. Usually (but not always!) switching off at the mains then holding down start-button for 5seconds etc does alleviate the problem.
I had great trouble re-installing my software after first repair and, therefore, asked Acer to issue me a cedit note after the problems persisted. Acer has refused but they want me to send in the PC again for 2nd repair.

1) Could anyone who has had experience with Acer please advise me if a stand any chance of a credit note (if problems persist after 2nd repair) - my warranty will expire soon!

2) Does T671 model have a known inadequate-PSU problem? What other problem could there possibly be (I do not use share-wares and freewares and a virus problem is unlikely - no virus was reported by Acer after 1st repair either)

Thanks in advance for those posting a reply.

Hi, I've installed on my Acer Aspire 7520G notebook (was delivered with Vista). Used http://komku.blogspot.com/2008/10/acer-aspire-7520-7520g-windows-xp.html to find and download drivers.

My problem is that the keyboard driver is only halfly functional. The 7520G has a 17'' widescreen, and an extended keyboard with a proper keypad. After the installation of XP Pro, I haven't been able to use anything but a regular keyboard, and to get a keypad I'll have to press Fn+F11 to activate the keypad on the regular keys (Don't use it, of course). It would be fantastic if anyone could help me with this. Vista displayed the Microsoft ehome mcir 109 keyboard, now it's the standard HID keyboard unit. Anyone got any advice?

I've already posted this in the motherboard forum but realised it'd be better to ask it here!
I'm using WinXP on a Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI Pro motherboard. It has onboard AC'97 Realtek sound.
If I use their surround test to check my 5.1 setup all the speakers work as expected. Also works fine if I play surround sound from a video in VLC or Potplayer.
A stereo source plays from the centre, front left, front right and bass speakers as expected.
The problem is any sound from a browser - I've tried both Firefox and Explorer - only comes out of the front left and right speakers. Any other stereo source would normally play from front left, front right, centre and bass.
I have tried the latest driver from Gigabyte's website ver A3.92 and the latest Realtek driver version A4.06.
To recap: surround works fine with everything but web browser sound only appearing front left and right (no bass or centre).
(oh and I also am using this computer with Windows 8.1 update on another drive - different drivers obviously - and the sound is fine with everything including the browser)
Any ideas what's wrong here and what I can do to fix it?

The update must have steps on a few sound files. I recommend you download the latest sound drivers and install them after deleting all sound devices within Device Manager. Once you delete them reboot and Windows will discover them as new hardware and you should select Have Disk and use the drivers you donwloaded.

Thanks for your time

A:Acer 5742z Sound Problem

The sound jacks are soldered onto the motherboard. Unless you broke the soldered connection or shorted it.
If there is no damage to the motherboard, boot into Setup (Bios) go to Integrated Peripherals. Look for Onboard Sound, if it is disabled, using your Enter and Arrow key, Enable it.
Boot into Windows, Go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc, right click the devmgmt results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Device Manager see if there are any devices with Yellow flags, if so, these devices need drivers. Go to the Acer drivers page, Acer | Download Drivers and Manuals | Acer Official Site type in your make and model# and download the Audio driver for your model.

I'm running WinXP Home - I just recently reset my computer after it began working quite slowly (I thought because of system resources), and I encountered two problems upon returning to windows. First, Windows has reverted to Windows Classic Style, and Windows XP Style is not an option in the display menu. My sound drivers have apparently disappear as well. I get an "Error 88780078" every time I try to play music. All of my system restore points are gone, so system restore is out of the question. I have already run Symantec AntiVirus, Ad-Aware, and Spybot, with no problems found in any of them. Does anyone know what might be going on, and/or how to fix my problems?

I have also just discovered that I cannot enable auto-protect with Symanetic AntiVirus, and the device manager does not show any hardware at all. Thanks for any help in advance!

Yet another update - I ran network diagnostics under Windows Help tools, and I recieved WMI Errors on every test. I'm having a near panic attack!

A:Problem with my new Acer computer and Sound Forge 8

I checked around the web, and it appears that Sound Forge 8 doesn't support Vista.

You can try to run it in Compatibility mode: Right click the program icon and select 'Properties' at the bottom. Select the 'Compatibility' tab, check the box and use the drop down to choose which mode.

If that doesn't work, then the Vista compatible version hs available here:

I am having an issue with the sound on my laptop. It will play videos and music, but at some point the sound just....freezes. It is like when a CD has a scratch and it plays the same two words over and over again. Most of the time the screen is not frozen and I can click to exit out or shut the computer down. The sound, however, does not stop when I shut it down or unplug it. It only stops when I remove the battery. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi TechGuys
Here is an oldy but goody and is kicking my behind. As with so many others, my Acer Aspire One ZG5 netbook running WinXP (sorry dont know SP; I think it is WIn32) crashed on it's way out of hibernation and hangs after loading agpCPQ.sys.
I tried to reload WinXP SP2 from my CDs but the process hangs at final blue screen saying Windows is loading ... at bottom.
When selecting the f2 automated repair option from the CD the screen asks for a floppy install disk. WTF? I have no floppy or CD drive, am using external CD drive to run install CDs.
There are no other options offered with the CDs. I have tried both regular XP and XP Pro CDs.
I cant get to the BIOS from F2 screen when starting the machine w/out CD. All greyed out.
I cant get it to start in Safe or any other mode. If I do get to a windows screen it just hangs. I left it run all night just in case.
I have taken off the battery and then restarted with power only; no dice
Swapped out the power supply, no difference
I did read something on the MS page that says that WIn2000 machines had the same problem, it is a graphics driver causes the problem coming out of hibernation. You can get a hotfix from MS but not for XP, only 2000

I just purchased a used 17" Apple Studio Display CRT.

It works fine with my Powerbook, but is giving my PC laptop (an Acer Aspire 1300) some trouble.

Previously, the Acer had been plugged into a generic beige monitor with no troubles. It usually boots and displays everything on the external monitor. The laptop was run over by a car a couple of years ago, which damaged the screen so badly that only a small chunk of it works. If the monitor is not plugged in, the screen will work (well, a small part of it does, anyway).

With the Apple monitor plugged in from boot-up, some of the initial boot text comes up on the CRT, then the CRT goes black and makes a chirping noise with the green monitor light staying on as soon as XP starts to load.

I've tried booting the machine into Windows and then plugging in the monitor, but same problem: the laptop screen goes black, and the CRT switches out of standby and starts making the chirping noise. The CRT stays black.

Since the text *is* displayed at start-up on the monitor, until Windows begins to bootup, I'm guessing that Windows is sending the monitor the wrong kind of signal. Do I need a new driver? Is it a compatibility issue I'm not familiar with?

This driver is currently installed: http://www.acersupport.com/notebook/..._dl.html#Video

Hello All!

This is my first post here.

I have an Acer Aspire Revo R1600 that I bought 3 years ago. It is running WinXP, and it came with it installed. I did not install a different OS over what the stock installation.

This PC has been running fine for the past 3 years. Then all of a sudden, it starts having issues, where it will freeze up, or hang. I'll try to open a window, and it will just clock. I get no error messages. I thought it might be a virus, but I had Avast Pro installed, and performed a full system scan, and found no issue.

The problem got so bad that I cannot open any windows at all. I could not even do CTL-ALT-DEL to get the task manager. The clock on the start bar would also not update.

So I did a full factory reset. But even during the install, when it tries to install the updates, it will also hang. I would again need to do a hard reboot. I've done this a few times now, and it takes about 6 reboots to finish the system update process and get me a point where I can try to work on the issue.

I've read in other posts that I need to change in the HDD settings in BIOS from SATA to Native IDE. I've done that, and did a fresh factory reset again, but the problem persists.

I've gone safe mode, and it seems that I have better luck being able to do things. I've also read that the NVIDIA drivers need to be updated or replaced. I've gone into add/remove programs and removed all the NVIDIA drivers, but the problem persists.

Unless you changed something which caused the problem, you don't need to change anything. You will likely just end up making things worse.

As it also doesn't work in Safe Mode and you have performed a Restore. The most likely cause would be faulty hardware. The typical causes would be the RAM, HDD, motherboard, or power supply.

EDIT: Could also be heat. When was the last time it was cleaned?

You can test the RAM using Memtest86. You can test the HDD using the drive manufacturers disk tools.

You could also check Windows Event Viewer to see if Windows is logging any errors.

You're doing all the right things but instead of just tapping the mic, I suggest you try sitting beside a radio or othe rmusical output and then repeat the experiment. If you still don't hear anything afterwards, post back as to whether or not the system invites you to save the file when you close the utility. I just tried this on my old Toshiba with built-in mic and it worked for me.

When I try to place the volume icon in the desktop taskbar I get this message: "Windows cannot display volume control on the taskbar because the volume control program has not been installed. To install it use Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel." I cannot play sounds either.
It is not in Add/Remove Programs list, nor Add/Remove Windows Components. Sounds and Audio Device are as follows: Realtek AC97 Audio
Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Media control devices
Legacy video capture devices
Video codecs

Properties for each device shows "this device is working properly". Any helpful suggestions to get my sound & icon back? Thanks.

i installed a clean version of Windows XP Home Edition but the system can't play sounds. in the Device Manager it said that C-Media AC97 Sound Device needed a driver. Mobo ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe with onboard Realtek Audio.

Since purchased new the audio never worked.

I have installed since a few PCI audio cards but did not work either & the last one with its drivers loaded from its small CD gives sound but very weak.

Has anybody a magic idea of how to get sound on this oldish mobo?

thanx ........nick

A:no sound winXP

if you want to use the onboard sound card, go into the BIOS and make sure its enabled, from there go to the asus website and find audio drivers for your mb, download & install.

Then play a song or cd and have your speakers plugged it & powered on if it does not work then leave the song playing and plug the speakers into the other sound ports at the back of the computer until you hear sound. (its possible you have them plugged into the wrong port on the back)

Hello guys, how are you doing?

I've got the strangest thing going on on my WinXP SP2. I just formatted my Notebook and reinstalled everything.

My computer has a SoundMAX Integrated Sound System.

Cutting to the chase, I can listen music in Winamp or watch videos in Media Player qithout any problem, I can even use my webcam for chatting online and the sound is working fine.

But, there's no sound from the events in Windows, which means that, for example, if I'm connected to Yahoo Messenger or MSN Messenger, when I receive a mail it should sound but it doesn't. Or when I log in or shut down to Windows, it doesn't make any sound either. I've been to the "Sound and Audio Device Properties" in Control Panel and I've put "Windows Default" in the Sound scheme, but it doesn't want to play. It doesn't even allow me to try the sound. Here is one picture for getting the idea more clear.

As you see, between "Windows XP Error" and "Browse" the arrow is not activated, and I cannot explain myself why. If I play that same sound it Media Player, it works, but I cannot enable it from there, for some strange reason.

Please, I hope somebody can help me with this, is driving me nuts...

Thank you for your time!!!

A:There's sound...and not, in WinXP

I just wanted to add that I have this exact same problem. You also don't hear sounds that are integrated into websites, such as from a flash file. I also would like to add that there is a weird, very low crackling sound attached to the "phone" meter in volume control. If you turn phone all the way off, then the crackling sound disappears, if you turn it up all the way, then you can hear it if you put your ear very close to the speakers.

I have recently installed windows xp, however there is no sound. I have checked the device manager which reports that it is working properly, with no conflicts.

I downloaded the most recent driver (I have an AC'97 onboard chip), however this had no effect.

Everything is connected properly and I have checked the volume levels. My current configuration is WIN98SE installed on my C drive (40gb HDD) dualbooted with WINXP installed on the D drive (10gb HDD) and when I boot into WIN98 the sound works perfectly, so it is definately a software problem.

in win xp go to control panel and open sounds and audio devices.on the audio tab , are your devices showing up or are they greyed out? if not open the volume and make sure the sliders are up and nothing is muted. there is also a mute option on the first tab which is also labeled volume.

Hi all

I recently reinstalled xp to get rid of a pesky win32 virus after exhausting any other options i knew. After install there was no sound at all. After buggering around i took out my sound blaster live card to try just with onboard sound.
Still no success. The gigabyte sound effect manager detects that somethings plugged into the port but says the 'audio device may not be connected properly'. I cant remember if it said this anyway when it used to work...

My motherboard is a gigabyte GA-k8NS with realtek AC97 sound.
Ive tried installing the latest realtek drivers (version
Ive tried reinstalling windowsXP sp3 again.
The onboard sound is enabled (set to auto) in the BIOS.
In sounds and audio devices each function is set to my Realtek AC97 Audio.
Theres no conflicts in device manager, and everything i can find is unmuted.

any help is very very much appreciated, thanks in advance

A:reinstalled winxp, sound gone

Ive done the mobo drivers...
