Networking doesnt work when using Safe Mode with Networking

Q: Networking doesnt work when using Safe Mode with Networking

I know I am getting on everyone's nerves with all of these posts, but this is my only way to get things resolved.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Please do not post your Hijack this logs here. Due to Forum Rules we cannot assist in malware removal here. Have you tried a different browser (Chrome, Firefox etc)? When you say IE only works in Safe Mode with Networking, Do you mean you boot the computer normally and use IE (safe mode) or are you booting the computer into Safe Mode with Networking? In other words you can't boot normally?
If you feel you are infected, please click on the Virus/Trojan link in my signature and post there for more help.

I have tried to run IE7 in normal mode and I always get a "The address is not valid" window. I have a good internet connection and Firefox works flawlessly. I do not have connection problems. If I ran IE7 in Safe Mode with Networking, I can bring up webpages with no problems. I thought that upgrading to IE8 would cure the problem but I am still getting the exact same problem. I have tried checking many things and have tried many suggestions that I have found through web searches but nothing works. Please help!

I have an acer aspire laptop. Last night firefox stopped responding and from that message the whole thing, completely froze. Tried safe mode networking and it worked, but normal mode would not work at all. Tried a few hours later and restarted it then froze again once restarted in normal mode and hasn't worked since... yet safe mode works fine. Can anybody help? Please! The only way I could shut it down was to take the battery out. I turned it on, entered my password and when it loaded froze immediatley. I tried again, again the only way of shutting down was to take the battery out, and when turned on I was greeted by a black screen and nothing else.

Also whenever I turn on the computer if I try to access the internet in normal mode it goes to a blue screen and talks about a crash dump. HELP ME!!!

Start by disabling groups of startup applications and services using MSCONFIG until you find a working configuration in normal mode. You can isolate the offending process that way.

OK, so I got some kind of malware/virus where i kept getting the same "important security alert" pop-up every time I clicked on something. So, I ran a system restore thinking that it would take care of it. Well, it didnt. On top of that, after I completed the system restore, my internet browsers now only work in safe mode. I definitely have an internet connection and when I try to run the automatic troubleshooting it says there is nothing wrong with the connection. After that, I downloaded Super AV and malwarebytes and ran them. They found a ton of stuff and I got rid of it. Still, my internet browsers would only work in safe mode. So, I looked on this forum and read about a clean startup. So i used msconfig, hid all the microsoft processes and disabled all the remaining applications. Still, no internet browser. Then, I read having two anti virus applications can cause this problem. So, I uninstalled my Norton 360 that had long since expired. Nothing. Uninstalled Super AV and malwarebytes. Still nothing. I have no idea what it could be. If someone could give me some guidance I would really appreciate it. Ive surfed every forum I could find and tried everything that my level of computer expertise allowed. Now Im at the point that I don't want to screw anything up.

I'm tearing my hair out !
(And there's not that much of it.)

I have a set of laptops (used in a school classroom). They connect to the LAN via wireless .. or, at least, they used to.

Specifically: Toshiba SP2100 with D-Link AirPlus G+ wireless PCMCIA cards.

After trying many, many things:

- Boot SP2100 from XP CD (SP2)
- Don't fix any of the driver issues
- Plug wireless card in
- Cancel plug&play
- Install correct driver with d/loaded Setup_v204.exe
- WZC managing wireless connection
- Sees wireless network (WEP) but
- Won't connect automatically (after setup wizard)
- Won't connect manually
BUT ..
- Boot into "safe mode with networking" and wireless works faultlessly

I've got to be missing something really simple.
Please, please can anyone tell me what it is ?

Thanks !

I'm new here and in hopes of getting this resolved. I just installed the new Norton Systemworks 2005 and rebooted after installation. When the boot screen got up to the blue screen with the Windows XP logo before displaying the login names where you put in your password, it just stops. I restarted a few times and waiting a few more times thinking it may need to 'finish' installing. But each time gave the same results. Finally, I went in with 'Safe Mode' and got in with no problems. Tried again in normal mode after looking around for any obvious problems (none found)... back to square one. Tried again in 'Safe Mode with Networking' and it failed like normal mode so I suspected a networking problem??? The last thing I tried which made me mad is that I tried to uninstall Norton Systemworks in 'Safe Mode' and that failed!! Anyone in these forums know the cure? :dead:

A:Unable to get to login screen, works in Safe Mode but in Safe Mode w/ Networking

Just a thought

Safe-Mode
Start \ Run \ msconfig \ diagnostic startup
disable any services attached to your most recent install and restart
should get warning next boot about using msconfig, its ok
One key service that needs to be available is the installer service
Try the uninstall, if doesn't complete
Try the uninstall string in the registry only if you know what you are doing

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

Under it you will see a list of installed programs. Some don?t show up as words but you can figure out what they are by looking at their values. What you are looking for is the uninstall string. Double click that key as if you were going to modify its value. Do a CTRL + C to copy and then exit the registry editor.

Go to START \ RUN and paste the uninstall sting and hit enter. This should launch the uninstall.

Just a thought though as I am not infront of a test system at the moment. You should research this a little further so you have a clear understanding of what you can and can't do with msconfig.

or simpler yet

Safe-Mode

Start \ Programs \ Access. \ System Tools \ System Restore

Select restore point prior to install of whats giving you the problem.

Again, Good Luck

PS If you try to install it again, turn of antivirus and other open programs etc..

Alright this is a family's laptop that is about 5 or even more years old...has windows xp on it dont know the exact one -.-...alright.

My sister has been using it and says she has never done anything to it...which i dont believe but anyways this computer will not boot up what so ever...everytime you power it on it goes to the screen that says unexpected error software/hardware problem yada yada yada...and then it gives you the options of boot in safe mode, safe mode networking, safe mode command prompt, last known good configuration...and none of those will work...we do have the recovery disks to wipe it but are trying to find a better way if possible...and when you try to load into any of the safe mode choices it stops at multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS\System32\Drivers\Mup.sys...will stay at that for about 5-10 mins and then just turn off...if you try to just do normal mode or last known configuration it just acts like it loads with the windows and the little green loading bar then shuts off...the more i type the more i think the harddrive is toast but im new and learning so i probably could be wrong. Just looking for suggestions =)

Oh and this pc will run very hot...so if its a hardware issue i would not be surprised.

This morning we had a power outage and when I turned my computer back on, it would not boot. I tried several times to hard boot, with no luck. Then I tried safe mode. Ran an antivirus scan and it showed malware and several infections which it cleaned. The computer still would not boot normally. I then ran chkdsk, still would not boot normally. I have ran malware bytes, registry repair and the registry defrag program as well as done a disk clean up. It still will not boot in normal mode.
Since my last problems that you helped me with, I have upgraded to a broadband internet connection and have a home network. The 2 other computers on the network are fine.
A week ago, I had purchased Avast internet security and had problems immediately. It would not allow me to connect to the internet. That was uninstalled and I went back to the free Avast antivirus, Zone alarm and Spyware blaster. I was very unhappy with Avast customer service and support iYogi and decided I did not want Avast on my computer at all. I have since downloaded PC tools free antivirus. Once I have my computer operational again, I am open to suggestions.
Fortunately, I did not change anything on the other 2 computers. Just mine.

hello and welcome to BleepingComputer,,

this is reminiscent of BIOS settings that need to be reset to default. you can do this by using that option in BIOS. do you see the option there?

if this pattern exists after BIOS reset, then there are other XP level options to try like console command /sfc scannow and chkdsk /r

not to long ago, i was dealing with a PC that was doing this same thing, and it was the hard drive (SATA) protocol setting in BIOS, it had to be set to IDE.

one more thing, this could be blue screen error that isn't halting, just looping boot. is there an option at the boot screen (the one with the safe mode options) about halting on errors?

Hello,

Recently my dad's computer had a corrupted hive and boot.ini. Via this website, I was instructed to run a chkdsk /r while in the recovery console. Everytime I used his OS disk to get into the recovery console, it prompted me for a password and I didn't know it (nor could I leave it blank). I decided to use my OS disk from my computer and I could fix the problem. Now, though, everytime I startup the computer, it prompts me to start windows normally, in safe mode, in safe mode with networking... To give further information...on that same screen there is an option for Windows XP and Windows XP Home Edition. Don't know if that has something to do with it. They both work though when I press enter on either one. Could anyone help me stop the computer from prompting me??? Thank you for any help.

Can't boot into Normal/Safe Mode with Networking, only safe mode...
Good Evening,I could do with some pointers on resolving an issue. I can only boot into windows in safe mode in Windows 10. Normal mode and safe mode with networking doesn't work. The problem occurred after a windows update. I have removed the latest updates that were installed and cleared any pending ones but it still won't boot properly. I have also run the troubleshooter and tried to recovery to an earlier date which also doesn't work. The laptop is a HP ENVY 17 notebook. At boot it just gets to the HP logo with the circular loading icon and no further and can only boot it into safe mode. Can anyone recommend the next steps? I have also tried the following;stopping startup items
uninstalling hardware drivers
removing recent software
running troubleshooters at boot
sfc scan
diagnostic/selective startups with minimal services running
Would the fact that I cant boot into Safe Mode with Networking imply its a network driver related issue?Bit of a dead end really, any help would be much appreciatedKind regardsTrevor

A:Can't boot into Normal/Safe Mode with Networking, only safe mode...

It's uncertain what the problem is - although a networking problem does sound likely.
Start with trying a clean boot:
Perform a Clean Boot:  http://www.thewindowsclub.com/what-is-clean-boot-state-in-windows
If that stops the problem, then re-enable things a few at a time until you figure out what's causing it.
Then uninstall the problem program (from Start...Settings...Apps...Apps & Features - if you don't find it there, check the right sidebar for Programs and Features and see if you can remove it from there).

Let us know what happens there and we'll move on from there if needed.

Hello, I'm hoping someone would be able to help me resolve this so that I can avoid having to reinstall Windows. Here's the situation: my laptop suddenly cannot boot up anymore; it usually hangs when the "Please wait..." dialog shows up with the text "Windows is starting up...", but sometimes it goes as far as the login prompt, then hangs after I enter my credentials and press Enter. When it hangs I cannot even move my mouse cursor. I can only think of two things I did out of the ordinary that created this mess:
I installed the driver for the Turtle Beach AudioAdvantage Micro USB stick audio card before my PC started hanging. However, after I installed the driver I was forced to reboot, and my computer rebooted just fine.
I closed my laptop's lid to put it in sleep mode while MyDefrag (formerly JkDefrag) was running. I have done this in the past without any issues, but this time when I exited sleep mode my computer was hanging, so I forced a reboot. This trouble started after I rebooted.

I am able to boot up in Safe Mode, but not Safe Mode with Networking, which leads me to think that maybe some network related drivers got corrupted. Some more info on my setup:
I have Windows XP Pro SP3 installed (v5.1.2600)

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum and really hoping you can help me :)

My internet has not been working on my laptop, which happened very suddenly 2-3 days ago. The connection is fine on my other computer and phone, so I know its not the internet itself. Even on the laptop, it SAYS the wifi is connected, but its not working. Firefox was instantly crashing, it wouldn't even bring up the browser window. Chrome gives me a "DNS address not found" error for every site I try and IE wont load anything.

I've tried flushing my DNS, using that ipconfig /refresh and /renew thing. I've tried troubleshooting the wifi connection, disabling/enabling it. I ran a Malware Bytes scan and only found a couple of "pup" programs/cookies that have been deleted. Currently running a SuperAntiSpyware scan.

The thing is, I tried using the internet in Safe Mode with Networking and it works just fine! So that means a program or something on my computer is causing it, right? There were issues with my Teredo Tunneling Psuedo-Interface driver the other day, it had a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark, but I did a couple of fixes that I found on help sites and that exclamation is gone now.

Please help, I really want to use my laptop on the internet again ;_;

Hi ,

I'm using windows7 32-bit operating system. I have internet explorer 8( it never worked since installation, always shows "No network connection") and Google chrome installed in my computer. I had been using Google chrome which crashed yesterday. I re-installed Chrome and now it says there is no internet connection. In short, I cannot use internet in my computer. Any other browser installed comes up showing the same "No Network connectivity" thing. And then I started the computer in "safe mode with networking" and I could use see that both Google chrome and Internet explorer are working. But they do not work in normal mode. I really don't know what to do to solve this problem. And internet is working as I'm using internet in my mobile using WIFI from the same internet connection.

Thanks you,

Hi and thanks for the forum: I have already started the preliminary tests in this previous post and I was directed to post further here for advanced help. In the past I have tried to find the source of continuing problems with no success. On April 1 I ran combofix and it had a results log which is still available on my PC with a 7Loader reference. I did not realize combofix was not to be used.Leading up to these problems, I have had Immunet report a Trojan.OSX.(something) a few weeks ago but was removed. Now the PC restarts, BSODs and crashes when scanning for malware. The final clue was when a fake GMAIL login screen appeared and I removed Chrome as a precaution. Today, after repeated BSODs and repair failures I applied for help on the forum. As a result of further testing in the link above I was getting BSODs with MBAM after which I could no longer boot WIN7 normal without a crash. Safe mode with networking failed in a similar manner and now only safe mode without networking will work.Recent steps:1) Defogger found no emulation2) Running DDS resulted in multiple Application Errors "the procedure * could not be located in the DLL USERENV.dll."After clicking OK I see "SED.DAT: can't read temp00: no such file or directory"Then "Freeware implementation of REG.EXE has stopped working" (three times) then it crashed dump with BSOD. Safe mode then crashed twice. Windows repair started then another crash after "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQ... Read more

Hello all,

I am having trouble with my fiance's laptop computer with Windows XP Home SP2. I am not able to establish a connection to the internet so I cannot run any of the online scanning tools, however I scanned and cleaned the computer in safe mode with Spybot S&D which was installed on the computer. I tried to download and install via jump drive AVG Free 8 and a current version of SpybotS&D. Unfortunately the installations failed due to the lack of internet connection. Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to usb stick and transfer it to the Desktop of the infected computer.

What DSS will do:create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review.
DSS automatically runs HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have HijackThis installed.

Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.Close all applications and windows.
Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt <-this one will be minimized

Hi,

My OS is Vista.I am finding problem in accessing net.My net works fine in safe mode with networking and not in normal mode. Please can anyone help me?Do i need to turn ON any service?

Thanks in advance.

A:Net is working with safe mode with networking but not in normal mode..why?

Hi, it could be that something is stopping or preventing your internet connection. You see when your pc boots in normal mode it loads everything and I mean everything. Whereas in safemode + networking it only loads the process and services needed to work or use the machine.

The first thing I would like you to do is go to device manager, hold windows key and press R
then type devmgmt.msc now a window will be displayed and click continue, then expand network adapters, write down what you have installed in your machine and try downloading the latest version.

The other thing you can do is go to msconfig, by holding the windows key located in between ctrl and alt, and press r on the keyboard. Then type msconfig, then go to startup and uncheck everything, click apply and restart. Now if you Internet works it means that there is something loading which is not good or is causing a conflict.

We also want to cancel out Malware so make sure your pc had anantivirus and antispyware and you scan your pc full. Also go to microsoft update and make sure you have the latest updates.

Thanks

# What the problem is - I CANT access websites like google or yahoo or anything with internet explorer even though my ISP is perfectly OK and everything is connected, and it says in network conncections i AM connected to the internet via highspeed LAN/Broadband. I noticed that when i turn my router on and off a message comes up and its says my IP has to be fixed or something. With the FiOS tech support they said i pinged everything fine and that i could go on google and yahoo via the command prompt but for some reason i couldn't in internet explorer. in my internet options i went to connections and i just ticked the auto detect under LAN settings and nothing else.

I am working on a computer now that is failing to get online in normal mode. It can get online in safe mode.

I have run and updated adware, ran hijack this, ran Spybot SD, and ran Stinger. Mutliple times for all and now everything checks out like it should. I also deleted several folders that were spy/ad ware. Everything is functioning as it should.

I have also run the msconfig in normal mode to eliminate unnecessary startup items in normal mode and between the normal and safe mode w/ networking, all the processes match up. I have gotten it down to 17 processes in normal mode. Was originally at 75+. Both are now the same in safe mode w/ networking as well as normal mode, 16 running processes.

I have run ipconfig and pulled a valid network address. I have also done a /release and /renew, gotten the same IP, and cannot get online in normal mode.

TCP/IP settings in IE is correct. I have also gone under the Advanced section of IE tools and restored default. No go. I have also deleted the 1394 connection, restarted and it was auto-added to the computer and is functioning properly. Same for the network adapter.

Can anyone give me some ideas on what else I could check to try and get online? I have also downloaded and installed Firefox with no positive results.

Everything within the Device Manager is functioning properly. The system is XP Home SP1. I am thinking about upgrading to SP2, but really dont want to do that as I doubt it will help.

Also, I have run the WinSock XP fix... Read more

Is it safe to run it from Safe Mode with Networking? I have disabled my AT&T Internet Security Suite using Task Manager/run "msconfig"/Start.

Maybe in the form of a Registry Edit perhaps?

At present, I can only remotely Boot them into Safe Mode if they are connected via Ethernet; not Wireless.

Whenever i attempt to load my computer with safe mode /w netowrking it will sit there with alot of spam that have similar text. They usually say something like Multidisk(0)Disk(0)rdisk(0) and some other crap. but it goes down my whole moniter screen and sits there until i turn off my computer.

Also: my reason for trying to boot /w networking and safe mode is that i have managed to get this little virus known as antivirus soft (ironic, right?) and i saw on geekpolice that to get rid of it you have to go through some process that requires you to be in safe mode /w networking and proxy website and some other stuff.

If anyone can help me and/or confirm if the second paragraph contains correct information that would be helpful.

A:Issues with Safe mode /w Networking

Well personally what I would do is boot into just Safe Mode, not Safe Mode with Networking. After that I'd put in a flash drive with antivirus programs on it, install them, and then run them. If you're able to get hold of a flash drive and another computer to put the installers onto that flash drive then that is what I recommend.

But in the event that you don't have what I previously mentioned, then I suggest the following:
- Try waiting a while until the "Multidisk(0)Disk(0)rdisk(0) and some other crap" goes away and see if you can access Safe Mode with Networking and then follow the other sites recommendations.

(Please note that I'm not giving credibility to the other information provided to you, but I'm assuming it is correct. I'm not sure that it is correct, but maybe someone else on this site would know).

Here's a link to several Anti-viruses, Virus removal tools, etc that I know work and are of good quality. I hope that these will be able to help you in some way. Also, that thread is a bit old and you might want to check for updated versions of the same software if interested.
http://forums.techguy.org/general-security/603629-security-help-tools.html

If what I have suggested to you doesn't appeal or isn't practical there will be more people that will come by this thread. Most of the "common-posters" on this site will know more than I, and I hope that they're able to help if mine was not adequat... Read more

So when I try any of the other options such as Start Windows Normally, or Safe Mode, I get the bsod as soon as the Windows XP load screen shows up.

If I choose Safe Mode with networking however, I get a black screen with four "Safe Modes" on each corner, and the name of the OS at the top.

This started last night when I tried to restart because my taskbar went black, besides the words.

A few hours before that I had taken out one or two Trojans and some Spyware from my computer. Later I had noticed random tabs were popping up in Firefox(This was shortly before my taskbar went black)

I can use the Task Manager to access anything, but when I try to start explorer.exe it comes up with an error saying it was not found. It also seems that Explorer.exe isn't in System 32

I don't have my Windows recovery disk either...

Can anybody help me with this?
