I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Is anyone able to point me to a source that details the procedure for removing the covers of the iP4000 printer, please? I have found a couple of sources for service manuals/parts lists, but none of them provides anything on this basic procedure! I have it for my iP4200 (yes, the one that keeps Canon in business with ink "tank" sales!), and it's quite simple when you know where all the clips are, but for reasons best known to Canon, they do not seem to include this for the earlier 4000. There is a horrible grinding sound emanating from the works, and I need to take a peek inside.

Any assistance appreciated.

W8 Release Preview 64 bit found my USB connected Canon Pixma iP5000 printer, but didn't install a driver. WU says there is an update available, but that will not install. Error is WindowsUpdate_80070BC8, which doesn't help much. I haven't been able to find a 64 bit driver on any of the Canon sites, but I have found an XP 64 driver, on another site.

Checking properties for this printer in Devices & Printers throws up the following event:?
Driver Management concluded the process to install driver prnca00m.inf_amd64_26559657092dd606\prnca00m.inf for Device Instance ID USBPRINT\CANONIP5000\7&8F48641&3&USB005 with the following status: 0xBC8.

This status code is listed as ERROR_CORE_DRIVER_PACKAGE_NOT_FOUND

Attempting to update the driver from the printer properties finds a couple of drivers, but they also fail to find a core driver package. Add printer wizard finds a compatible driver on my machine, but that also fails for the same reason.

This printer is installed OK on my W7 installation on the same machine.

The 64 bit XP driver installed OK on this W8 RP installation, and printed a file OK, but attempting to upgrade results in the same error. After installing this XP driver, WU reported that the update installed, but Update History shows 'Failed'. Now WU isn't offering the update.

TIA for any help.

Hi,

I bought a MG5450 2 days ago and began setting it up yesterday however stumbled across an issue where the printer driver would not install regardless of the compatibility setting. Being as it's a newly released printer I thought the drivers would be up to date and new, however I think there may be a issue with NT 4.0 driver policy as when I try to install the drivers through the device manager, it gives me that message that there's a policy in place stopping me.

Windows update always fails when trying to install the printer, however the scanner, and software included all work fine. I can scan images on wirelessly and have them saved on my computer without an issue, however there is no way to print.

I have tried disabling the policing through the 'MSC' and adding a local group policy or something along those lines. However none of this has worked. How can I get the driver to install or disable the policy to allow the printer to be installed.

My Printer

Running Windows 7 Ultimate 64x
Tried installation of the drivers both through wireless and wired, both come to the same outcome.

Any other information needed, then please ask.

Thanks!

Scenario first.

My system is a windows 7 x64. it is connected via LAN cable to my wifi router (also used for internet).
Prior to installing Canon Pixma MG5370 apps and driver, the windows works fine.

My Canon printer is connected via WIFI to my router so in essence, I print through my router to the printer.
No errors were encountered during the installation process..

After all these, I noted that my windows will not shutdown anymore.
After clicking shutdown, it will reach the screen where it shows "Shutting down"
and a spinning disc like icon. and this is where it will remain and not power off at all.

hard disk Led not blinking during this time.
I had to do a HARD FORCE shutdown.

anyone encountered this problem, and most importantly, found a way to bypass this problem?
short of having the need to system restore and everything?

Thank you..

A:Unable to Shutdown after installing Canon Pixma MG5370 apps and driver

First try doing a System Restore to a date/time before installing the printer.

Then to install the printer, I would suggest doing it manually:

Open Devices and Printers by clicking the Start button , and then, on the Start menu, clicking Devices and Printers.

Click Add a printer.

In the Add Printer wizard, click Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer.

In the list of available printers, select the one you want to use, and then click Next.

If prompted, install the printer driver on your computer by clicking Install driver. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Complete the additional steps in the wizard, and then click Finish.

My HP printer up and died a while back and I've been on the lookout for a new printer. Right now the Canon iP4000 and iP5000 are both on sale at Future Shop and the 5000 is only $20 more than the 4000. From the reviews I've read, the 5000 is better for graphics and text but the 4000 is slightly better for photos. Since photos are what I'm going to be using it the most for, I'm leaning towards the 4000. Does anyone have experience with these printers? Am I right about the photo quality? Thanks.

I need to buy a new printer to replace my Canon Pixma iP4000. Things I'm looking for are: separate color ink cartridges and paper feed from the top (this is crucial--I bought an iP4820 and it's going back because it will only feed regular paper from the bottom and photo paper from the top). I print an occasional photo, but do not feel that I must have a photo printer anymore. I'm looking in the $150 or less price range. I would prefer a Canon because it's what I'm used to, but am open to suggestions. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Welcome to Techspot Melissa1434,
I bought a Epson TX 100 for $58.00 from Officeworks here in Australia. Out of the box with free refills of ink and when it came time to replace these they are easy on the purse strings. Three colours Cyan, Yellow, Magenta with Black as the alternative. And it does print photos though I have not needed to use that facility yet.

Edit- 20/11/10 just found a sale on for some carton damaged Epson printers "Promotion only available on Shop Online, hurry while stocks last." here in Australia

I have removed the ink and taken out the print head and put it all back. It goes thru all the motions of printing but the page is blank. Very sudden issue. One minute it was printing and then the next page was, nothing. If I try to run the auto alignment I get the error, orange flashing, reset, and then the same thing. Does this mean the printer head is gone?

I have a 4 yr old canon which has been an excellent printer until now. I changed the ink recently and ever since it has put bands through my photos. Canon put me though a bunch of email questions which I answered - nozzle check, deep cleaning etc. which I had done. I responded to them but they did not answer. I guess it is just too old. I uninstalled the printer and reinstalled but to no avail. I read that perhaps the print head is shot. Does anyone have any thoughts regarding this? Thanks.

A:Canon ip4000 banding on photos

When Canon had you go through hoops, did they ever ask you to raise the gray handle and pull the print head assembly out? This would be the first thing I'd check, as it could be something as simple as trash over the printheads (which no amount of jet cleaning will get rid of). Take it out and check out the bottom of the assembly.

If there seems to be nothing there, doing a dessert dish cleaning might help (yes, a dessert or cake dish).

Take a cake dish and put a layer of 409 or Fantastik cleaner on it (Do NOT use Windex or glass cleaner, as this can actually dry it out in the long run). Place the heads in this and let them sit for a half hour to an hour (you might want to sit the ink carts in their positions while it is soaking to keep the receptors wet). You only want the heads in the cleaner. When done, take a Q-Tip, dip it in the cleaner and give the heads a quick swabbing. Leaving the head wet, reinstall the assembly, insert the inks and give it a try.

The thing to remember is that the iP4000 series uses the 3 and 6 inks, which are old (as you stated above). Finding a replacement print head is going to be difficult soon. I did find these folks with your head, in case this cleaning does not work (http://www.precisionroller.com/print-heads-for-canon-pixma-ip4000/products.html) so it depends on whether you want to plunk down $80 for a new head Vs a new printer.

Anybody have a defective Canon printer like IP3000/IP4000/IP5000/IP6000 but where the powersupply is still working?
I'm looking for the AC-Adapter K30238, US-version for 110/120V. If you turn the printer upside down, you'll see that the PSU snaps in on 2 sides. That K30238 number is visible there on the outside.

Alternatively, if anybody with a similar printer is moving to Europe, we could do a swap. My adapter is the K30235 in 220/240V.

Edit: just added a picture of the printer with the PSU sticking out.
When seen from the printer front, it is in the rear left corner, ca. 8 x 5 cm.

I've done the maintenance that can be done through the drivers interface: like cleaning nozzles and deep cleaning etc - still no luck.

Is there anything else that can be done?
Or is my printer doomed?

A:Canon ip4000 print head issue

As you say it flashes orange light five times consecutively, that means there is a print head error. Reset the print head, then reset the printer. To reset the print head, make sure the printer is on. Open the paper output tray and top cover. Make sure the print head holder is in the center and open the inner cover. remove all the ink tanks. Raise the print head lock lever and remove the print head. Reset the print head and lock the lever. Replace the ink tanks.

I have a Canon i850 printer which I have immensely enjoyed using these past four+ years. For one thing, I've never had even one paper-jam during that time.

My understanding always has been that it is best to have separate components, so that's why I've always owned a dedicated printer. However, it appears that the present-day trend is more toward all-in-one units. Actually, I'm in the market only for a printer, but if the Canon MP600 all-in-one is technologically advanced far beyond my i850, then I would strongly considering buying one.

The MP600 has a scanner (which I don't need, although it would provide me with a back-up) and it has several modern features of convenience which my i850 doesn't have. What I would especially like to know is whether or not the MP600 produces appreciably better results with both text and photos than my i850. Also, would it be faster and cheaper in the long run than the MP600? While quality of results is more important than anything else, speed, economy, and convenience also enter into the equation.

(I was also considering the Canon PIXMA iP6700D photo printer, but from what I've read so far it appears that the MP600 all-in-one is more highly-regarded.)

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has an opinon on this matter. Thank you very much.

According to the Canon website you need to download and install the Windows 7 driver using Windows Update. It says you need to have the printer connected and turned on and access Windows Update from that computer.

(I don't know... why don't they just give you a link to the download?)

Then there is an add-on to download after the driver is installed above.

Hi everyone,

Got a bit of a strange problem here. Got a brand new laptop and printer, and suddenly I can't get a decent photograph print.

The printer is highly recommended, it's a Canon Pixma iP4700 which has had excellent reviews. But everything I print on it has no punch or sparkle, it's almost as if it has a grey film over it, a bit like I'm looking at my photo with cataracts! I printed the same photo on my dad's (much older) Epson printer and got a brilliant result.

I don't know if the problem is the printer, though, as he has Windows Vista and I have Windows 7 and have been using Google Picasa to import my photos. I am wondering if there is a setting on there that is colour correcting my photos either on import or on their way to the printer, as I am not used to Windows 7 yet.

Is there anyone here who can shed a bit of light on the problem? I really don't want to take the printer back if it's something I am doing with Windows that can be easily changed.

Thank you for your help!

Updating drivers usually doesn't affect the hardware itself. Its strange that it simply stopped working because you installed vista drivers on another computer. My Pixma was simply a plug-and-play from my vista desktop to my XP laptop.

Can you provide more detail? Does the computer detect the printer but it simply doesn't print? Or is the printer undetected completely? Maybe you could try uninstalling then installing new drivers for it.

I use Canon Pixma printer with Windows 7. When I want to scan and e-mail the colours of my computer change radically. I cannot get a full picture reproduced either. Only part of it is reproduced. I had to do a system restore to get the computer to remove the ugly colours. This is the second time that it happened. Please help.

A:Canon Pixma

As regards not being able to reproduce a complete picture, try reducing the 'PPI' setting in your scanner software prior to scanning. Whilst 300 ppi is considered the optimum setting for photo scans which you intend to print, that's way too high for an email. Try scanning at 150 ppi or even 100 ppi if it's only for an email attachment.

The scanning time will then be much shorter and there will only be half as much data for the PC to cope with (compared to scanning at 300 ppi).

My Canon Pixma IP4200 is flashing the light on the resume button 5 times. I hve tried resetting, switching off, restarting computer to no avail. What else can I do?

A:Canon Pixma

Press theResume button when the button is blinking. If that fails, unplug the USB cable and the power cable from the computer end. Wait a few seconds and plug the power cable in. Wait a minute and plug the USb cable in.

Canon PIXMA250 Series Multifunction Printer prints test every time.

A:Canon PIXMA 250

Prints the word "test"?

Prints every time you turn the printer on? Every time you try to print a document or photo? How does this event relate to Vista?

I am running Windows 7 in a virtual environment using Parallels on my iMac intel.  My Pixma printer shows up in the printers list in Windows but refuses to print.  The documents are neatly lined up in the queue but nothing happens.  I have looked for new drivers and can find none that I have not already installed. What to do?

Hi,

Canon has not released a Windows 7 driver for your printer.

You can try the latest driver for Windows XP or Windows Vista from here:

If the issue persists, I am afraid you have to wait for Canon to release a Windows 7 driver.

The driver to the printer Canon Pixma ip4500 should work with Vista x64.

I have Windows Vista Ultimate x64.

Please help me.

Hi Spiderfreak!

Here is a link to Canon website for the latest Canon driver. Just pick your printer from the list then choose the OS (Vista x64) and download/install. Hope this helps.

Since you did not specify you got your driver from their website I figured I'd look.

Hey Folks, I have a Canon MP160 and I am trying to print photos, but they always come out redder that I want, I found some NTSC Color Bars and printed them and Magenta is purple and red is deep orange, I did a monitor calibration with a Spyder Pro and thought that corrected the problem but to no avail, any suggestions?

A:Canon Pixma MP160

what kind of printer are using
are you using the correct profile for the type of paper

getting a print to look like it does on your monitor requires carefull calibration and printer profiling

Windows Xp

I have used my Canon MP500 for two years. It prints OK but it won't scan. About 18 months ago it completely disappeared from my computer. I tried to take the computer back to a date when it worked but it wouldn't allow me to do so. After reloading it twice it finally worked again. Now it has disappeared again. When I find Omnipage the message comes up "The parameter is incorrect"
Why does it suddenly disappear? I can't think I have done anything to make it do so.

My Canon PIXMA MG6120 doesn't print the text in a document containing both text and photos. I think the driver may be incorrect, but am uncertain which driver to load from the Canon website. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit on an HP TouchSmart 600-1050. Any suggestions?
