Q: T430 - Lenovo thinks it's a T430s! ..and custom settings don't work.

Hello everybody, My T430 which clearly is not a T430s is identifying itself as a T430s in Lenovo Companion. I ran Lenovo Bridge to scan the serial number of my T430 so I could add it to my devices in my Lenovo account. Again, it came up as a T430s! And stuff like Custom Battery Threshhold and USB-Always-On settings don't work! ...I'm so tired of trying EVERYTHING to stop this unit (which as been refurbed with Windows 10 Pro 64bit) from going into suspend randomly. I'm going to try un-installing Lenovo software and see if I fare better!! Yet another reason not to use Lenovo bloatware!!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm installing Win10 v1709 with Vantage in an MDT task sequence without any problems, using the method described here:  https://support.lenovo.com/ch/en/solutions/hf003321

How exactly are you installing Lenovo System Interface Foundation?  Are you installing it on the deployed machine, or are you trying to somehow include it in your master image?

As an experiment, on one of the machines with the broken deployment, please try to uninstall and then re-install Lenovo System Interface Foundation, will Vantage start OK then?  Instructions here.

Thinkpad T430 refurbished with Win 10 Pro 64 * Custom Battery Threshhold sometimes works - usually it goes to 100%.* USB-Always-On set to "off" doesnt work - USB power stays on in suspend.* Unit goes into suspend randomly on average once per day, whether Im using it or not.* Apparently "somebody put the wrong model/serial in with the maintenance disk" because, whether using Lenovo Companion or Lenovo Bridge, it comes up as a T430s and not as the T430 it clearly is. Does anyone think these problems could be related? What can I do? Thanks in advance. ...Lenovo Companion shows the following:"Make ThinkPad T430s""Type 2355 Model 2355A17""BIOS G1ETB2WW 2.72"

Otherwise it takes hours and hours to install all the programs I use. I guess there's the fact that the T430 doesn't have exactly the same hardware as the 430s. Will running Lenovo System Update install drivers for hardware that wasn't there before? Thanks for any help

I continue to enjoy my i7 T430s, but wondering if it might yet be possible to upgrade? My T430s (with NVIDIA upgrade) enables me to dock and drive THREE external monitors - this is a critical requirement for me. So I would like to keep that feature, please, but would be great if 1) There might be a comparable or smaller, lighter Thinkpad that would equal or exceed the performance of my T430s? (While still driving 3 external monitors) 2) Same as above, but one with a higher resolution, native screen? I am mostly a business user and have no need to upgrade from Windows 7 if that might affect my screen options? Thank you

Hi Poykl, Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing an issue with Bluetooth adapter on your ThinkPad T430s. This could be issue with function keys check with pressing Fn+F5 key and you will get an option to enable Bluetooth and Wifi adapter check with this option. If you are not getting the option then I think your system is not shipped with Bluetooth adapter, please provide the MTM (Machine Type Model) number which will be at the back of the system written on the white sticker so that we will confirm if the Bluetooth is shipped along with the sysetm.
Hope this helps.

No problems of any significance until today. That little battery status indicator did not work.I ran the Lenovo Update. It was version 4. The v4 gui showed up and after a minute it disappeared.Went to Lenovo website, installed the Lenovo Service Bridge to detect my serial number and machine type.Got the latest Lenovo Update, ver 5 and ran it.The critical was selected, selected the recommended and most of the optional updates. One of them was the bios updateAll the updates loaded and installed, bios last. Warning said to close down everyting and leave laptop power alone. Typical. I was not worried.Laptop shut down.Current state: green power is on. Fingerprint reader is off. This usually means the laptop is on. When it's off, the fingerprint reader flashes. I think the power button does, too. Laptop is unresponsive to power button and to the touchpad. Disc reader runs when disc is inserted. Tech support says wait for a day. Machine is out of warranty. Anybody have anything in their experience to help get this working? Thanks in advance!Pete

I am attaching 4 different sf diag results from 2 32bit and 64bit problematic and no problem machines.

As of yet, we have no parts to test with and we are trying to resolve this as quickly as possible.

Any ideas?

Just did a clean install of Windows 10 on my T430s (Core i5 with 8 GB RAM and 128GB SSD).When I attempt to boot the laptop it hangs on the Windows logo with the small circles rotating and freezes. This happens randomly and it will boot properly 3 out of 10 times. The other times I have to power it off and on until I get the repair console and then tell it to boot normally. Sometimes this will boot but others I have to power it off and on repeatedly until it starts up. I had the same issue with Windows 7 so I'm stumped if it's a driver issue or something else going on with my laptop? Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

A:Lenovo T430s - Windows 10 boot freeze

Just wanted to add a Me Too to the list, so its not a one-of experience.Recently bought a referb T430 and am loving it.I upgraded hardware to 16GB RAM and a 500GB Samsung SSD to amp up the experience and so far so good, except for this failure to boot experience that has now appeared.I had also upgraded from Win 7 Pro to Win 10 Pro. Maybe a mistake? When the boot hang started i did various things like force power down and CTRL-ALT-DEL and on reboot everything would be fine. Thankfully.I have run the Lenovo Hardware scan thats part of Lenovo Solution Center with no errors.I have almost come to the point of doing a Windows 10 Reset but wanted to do some research first and found this reference to the same phenomenon.I am wondering whether it may be SSD related? I could try cloning back to a standard disk drive.I also still have the original Win 7 128GB SSD. I can also try that to see if the problem goes away. Will update if any further discoveries are made

I decided to put 2 new SSDs into one of my ThinkPads (T430s).  After setting the User+Master HD passwords in the BIOS, it seems as though the boot-up process only regonizes the passwords after the 1st restart after setting a password on the drives but return the 'X' after that.  Oddly, both passwords are recognized within the BIOS UEFI settings themselves.  So I've set, reset, returned to default, etc. the BIOS settings but it will not regonize either the User nor Master passwords during boot-up despite regonizing both just fine in the BIOS settings. I've had many different hard drives in the T430s over the years, and have never had any issue, but I'm not quite understanding how the BIOS itself can regonize the passwords just fine - allowing me to remove them and set them again - but when entering them during the actual boot processes, I get the 'X', and it does not matter whether I use the User password or the Master password after hitting the F1 key. Mind you this is for BOTH drives, not just the primary drive.  Both passwords are entered correctly, too.  I even changed them to the lowest character limit available and like before, the passwords are accepted only after the 1st reboot after initially setting them, but they are not recognized any time after. There have been no changes to the device other than the swap to the X300s, and the latest UEFI BIOS flash a few weeks ago (no problems there). Anyone encounter this before? ... Hi everyone! I have been dealing with quite the headache for a while. My Lenovo T430S laptop from ~ 2012 has been crashing a lot lately. The crash happens with I am running a web meeting, and also using a dual monitor set up. Also happens when I play a video game or run video on one monitor and chrome browser on the other monitor. The crashes were infrequent at first. The screen would scramble and freeze/flicker and the audio would loop loudly, the screen would go black and the laptop would reset. These type of crashes have become a lot more frequent and I have not pin pointed the cause yet. I have changed my hard drive and clean installed windows 10 (it used to crash on Win 7 too), updated my drivers, and ran hardware tests to no avail.
Has anyone come across this type of problem and fixed it?

Hi! I've recently purchased a secondhand t430 in a really good state and working flawlessly, the problem has appeared today after cleaning its fan and replacing cpu's thermal paste. First of all the laptop didn't work properly because i didn't place one of its ram modules properly, that was settled but, for some reason, after checking how stuff was going on in Windows 10 i removed the battery in a lazy way to turn off the system and it stopped turning on. I've tried several of those pressing power on X times tricks till it dries the bios battery but none of them seem to work. The thing is that i don't even see the power button of the keyboard lighted at all, it's as the keyboard isn't reaching power. I even tried another new battery i've sitting around here although with the same results. What can I do?P.S: The green battery led on the cover lighted 3 times when plugging the lap each time before i tried removing the bios battery

A:Alt+ characters on Lenovo T430 keyboard

In order to execute those ASCII/ANSI codes, you must have NumLock on.  The involves the Fn (blue) key.  With it on, you then use alt  = the small numbers located on the lower right coner of keys to the right of the Trackpoint head.  This is not easy.  I prefer to run charmap.exe, minimize it to the task bar, and copy/paste the characters I need. I don't know if the old standard way (Num Lock On, ALT+nnn) would work with an external full keyboard.

Hey Lenovo Forum:

I'm having a battery charging problem that seems slightly different from any on this forum so far. I just acquired a T430 running Windows 7 (64-bit) like a charm. After a few issues with the audio drivers, everything has been running smoothly.

Abruptly, yesterday, when I plugged it into the wall socket (the same socket that it had sucessfully charged on earlier) it failed to charge. Thinking it was the outlet, I tested it. The outlet and adapter are both working fine (the adapter powers the computer no problem with the battery removed from the system). The lock switch on the battery is in the propper position (i've tried both). The battery is not overheated (it's cool to the touch). I tried removing everything and holding the power button (apparently that discharges some built up charge in the system) then reconnecting the battery and AC adapter, nothing.

I just downloaded the power manager which (when the laptop is, in fact, running off of AC power (the battery charge indicator hasn't draining in hours of continuous use) reads:

I originally bought this off eBay about 2 years ago. The only issue it has had is that the battery seemed to drain quickly as whenever I had the laptop on without the AC adaptor plugged in, the computer would shut off on its own within 10 seconds or so. As long as I plugged in the AC adaptor to the laptop, it ran with no problems However, when I tried to power on the laptop yesterday, even with the AC adaptor, it would no longer power on. I did just come back home from the airport, so maybe that had something to do with it? I followed all the steps here: https://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch001127.htm After following some of the steps, when I hit the power button on the laptop, it would flash for a second or so, and then stop flashing. Nothing ever appeared on the screen What is the next step for troubleshooting? Do I just have to remove the hard drive and/or RAM and place them back in and try powering it on again? Or take it to a repair shop?
