folder's display option problem

Q: folder's display option problem

when i go to folder and chose orgnaize by size i see no details the size of the folders the size column of the files is displayed but the folders isnt

although the last change and type is displayed

how to fix/?

Preferred Solution: folder's display option problem

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: folder's display option problem

Folders typically don't show sizes. Only the files do. It sounds like what you are seeing is normal. I'm not aware of any way to show a folder size in the SIZE column unless you use third-party software. Try this: http://foldersize.sourceforge.net/

I have a strange problem on win xp SP3. I check the: tools-folder options-'hide extensions for known file types' and 3 or 4 times a day, without a restart or logoff/logon, windows folders will start showing all file extensions. The time intervals are random. I have bitdefender as antivirus. Is this possibly a 'security' measure taken by windows or my antivirus? Thanks

A:folder option problem

First (to rule things out), make sure you have "display the contents of system folders" and "show hidden files and folders" checked, and "hide protected operating system files" UNchecked.

Someone had a malware that made hidden and superhidden file settings unavailable a
few months back. I ended up digging out the registry keys and writing a registry script for him.
If you're still experiencing the problem, try the registry script in the other thread.

I have a problem in retrieving files and folders that I hid. Folders and files are still hidden even after I clicked the radio button in front of show hidden files and folders in the view menu under folder option window. I suspect that this is due to the same virus which has infected already also causing drives to disolay "open with" window when double clicked it. I was opening my drives through Windows explorer instead. But I still need the double click option. Is there a way to remove this virus and to get my PC back to the original healthy state. Unfortunately I have not created a restore point recently. It would be a great help if somebody can supply a solution for this.

A:Problem in Hidden Folder option

If you have a virus, scan with your AV and remove it. Use another online scan, just to be sure, like TrendMicro. And since most bad guys are not viruses, you also need to scan with at least 2 anti-malware programs.

Free anti-malware scanners:
Spybot S&D
Ad-Aware 2007
Spyware Eliminator
Emco Malware Destroyer
Spyware Doctor
Arovax Anti-spyware
Trend-Micro Rootkit Buster
F-Secure Blacklight
Bootzilla (Bootable anti-malware CD with many other tools.)

I am having problems with my comp. I got a virus from somewhere, i don't know. I then went in to safe mode and scanned my comp using AVG. I got some infections and they were moved to quarantine. I then formatted my comp to be sure that no viruses were left behind. Now after formatting, i still have 2 problems:

1. Whenever i click on any drive in my computer, it opens in a new window.

2. When i goto my computer-tools-folder options-view and when i uncheck Do not show hidden files and folders and after clicking on OK, it again cheks that option. I tried many times and as soon as i click ok, it again checks the option, and hidden files are not shown.

Please help me, i really need to get rid of this and want my comp to behave normally.

Waiting for replies.....

Thanking you.

When I open any folder on the system by clicking on it, a box pops up that says that the content cannot be displayed offline, and it gives me the option of "Connect" or "Stay Offline".
If I just select "Stay Offline", it opens the folder and displays the files fine.
I thought it may be a setting in the "desktop.ini" file that is present in so many folders designating the background for each folder, but there is no desktop.ini file in some of the folders.
What is causing this?

Hello, I am writing these words to you in the hope of finding a solution to my problem. To begin with and to make the problem and its context as clear as possible, I will separate my explanation into 2 parts, explaining the context and the problem. The context:We are a high school of (almost) 500 machines, which are all integrated into a common domain, and all my users use Active Directory IDs to connect within our domain. All the rooms in our school are equipped with a minimum of:- A video projector on the ceiling connected to the teacher station with a 10M VGA cable- A teacher station equipped with a Display / Keyboard / Mouse (Connected according to the PC model and the model of the display vga/dvi/displayport/hdmi). The setting at the display level is:-Display (Main monitor)-Video Projector (Secondary Monitor)-Option (Duplicate)-Application of this parameter by Gpo/Script Now that I have set the context it will be easier for me to make you understand my problem, we recently received a PC model (We are fully equipped with "LENOVO" machines, within the limit of a 5-year warranty). This model is the''M710s MT-M 10M8 ? Is there a way I can set this up so that when I open my Music folder that the sub folders inside are displayed in list view but when I open a sub folder the content is displayed in detail view without the whole thing reverting back to the last view I opted for? I am having a peculiar problem on my Windows 7 64-bit, which I noticed this week. Within the "Videos" folder, if I create a folder called "temp", I am not able to create any sub-folder within it through the right click menu. Picture attached. Now the funny thing is, if I create a sub-folder within it (thru linux since my laptop is dual boot), I can see everything in linux (files and folders). If I go back to Windows, the sub-folder is not visible. Only files are visible.

If I change the name of the main folder from "temp" to anything else, the sub-folders are then visible and so it the menu option.

This is not happening anywhere else on the disk, only within "Videos/temp". I have other folders within "Videos" and they behave fine.

Any thoughts?

A:No "Create new folder" option for a specific folder within Videos

Interesting, I don't even get New in the first context menu drop down for any folder created under Videos. This is on Windows 10, so there is something going on there (7, 8 and 10) that Microsoft thinks is important or useful.

I have accidentally set the folder of my program file to music folder, when I wanted to change it back there wasn't a "Customize this Folder" option available. No I am very annoyed by this. Please teach me how to change it back to default.

A:"Customize folder" option missing from folder view

Yea, I've had this problem too when making folders. For seemingly no reason at all they just lose their customize tab.

If you really want it back, just make another folder named "Program Files" in another directory, then move all the files into it (Make sure you get hidden ones too) and then delete the old program files folder and move the new one into the old directory on the C drive or wherever you had it before.

Make sure the old folder is empty though and that you don't miss anything!

Wondering what does this do while I was in the display properties I chose to start display to: AUTOMATICALLY from SYSTEM (I assume is the default) Now when I restarted the system I get the first post screen and then thats it! the computer continues to boot up but the monitor stays black while the power light is green. No doubt my mucking around has caused this problem for me. Can anyone tell me how to reset my graphic display or at least get the option back to SYSTEM. Ive tried F8 and chose last known good"n -no good! Tried Safe Mode-wouldnt get into S.M?? Thanks

A:Display Option Re-set

Try using "VGA Mode" from the F8 boot menu. This stops the display drivers being loaded and uses the bare minimum generic drivers needed to drive the graphics card. Once booted you can uninstall the current graphic driver software. Reboot and reinstall the graphic drivers (preferably download the latest ones for your card).

Have you set up a folder the way you want it and then gone into the Folder Options and under the view tab clicked on apply to all folders for the folder type? If you have, there's a problem, if not, that's how.

Not sure on the min/max problem. It used to be that you could open a system folder and size it to what you wanted and then close it and maybe repeat once and the new open size would be in effect but I haven't dealt with Valveesta in that regard yet.

Will try to explain. I have a folder on my desktop called Forums with several forums listed. When I clicked on a forum, the forum page used to display on TOP of my Forum Folder but now the forum page comes up underneath my folder and I have to click off my folder to see the page. Really annoying. I've checked my folder settings but don't know what I have to change. Hope you can help.

A:Folder Option

I don't know of any user setting that controls that.
If these are Internet Explorer shortcuts in the folder -- this is worth a shot though.

Close all Internet Explorer windows.

Run regedit and navigate to this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

In the right pane right click on Window_Placement and delete it.

Then open IE shortcuts and see if the behavior has changed.

You can also reconfigure the folder size itself to a smaller window and then close it. It should then reopen as the smaller window and the page focus should then bring to the top whatever you click the mouse on.

This is a strange bug in Windows XP Pro but it can and does happen to everyone. When you open the My Computer screen and your Documents folder is missing but all the other users folders are there try this tweak.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / Software / Microsoft / Windows / Current Version / Explorer / DocFolderPaths

Once you click the DocFolderPaths folder you should see all the user's folders.

Add a new string value

Value Name: your user name

Value Data: the path to your docs folder ( ex. C:\Documents and Settings\your docs folder )

Exit Registry editor and open my computer, your docs folder should now be visable.

I hope this helps those of you stranded with this problem!Click to expand...

It has been moved:
Click the "Start Orb"Click "Default Programs"Click "Associate a file type or protocol with a program" (it can take a few minutes to load this list)But generally, if you double-click an unknown file type, you will get the "Windows cannot open this file" dialog. Select the option "Select a program from a list of installed programs" and click "OK":

You will then be presented with the "Open With" window. Click "Browse", and locate the program that you could like to use to open the file:

You can also specify a description of the file type, or to always use the specified program to open the file.

My problem is very specific. When searching and displaying 3000 folders in Windows 10 File explorer, or Saving Microsoft 360 Word / Excel docs to that same directory on my NAS network drive - the time it takes for this is too long. Admittedly yes it is a NAS network drive however there is a very important consideration here and that is that there is one other PC which is using the same NAS and there is no delay on that other PC when doing the above tasks - put simply on that other PC everything is instantaneous.

Differences between pc's

1. Mine - Windows 10 home retail, Ryzen 3 1300x 8GB ram. Current SSD 860 evo. All firmware updated everywhere. Build is no longer than 12 months old

2. Other - Windows 10 Home oem, Intel 8th Gen i5, 8GB Ram. Current SSD 850 Evo. All firmware updated everywhere. Build is no longer than 2 months old.

Mine is still a recent generation CPU so im not sure what the actual problem is here.

Before anyone responds with 'try setting folder display settings to general items' - i have set it to show that already. I have also explored the indexing settings and rebuilt my index (although i cant rebuild a NAS index i believe as its not on any local drives).

I have also installed a fresh clean copy of windows 10 retail on a new SSD thinking it is the SSD or even Windows having a corrupted index, virus etc. Still same problem. I have even taken the fresh copy out and put it into the other pc to use its hardware and booted from it - S... Read more

I'm wondering if anybody knows how we can set a specific "sort" format for each folder.

for example: "sort" the files in one folder by "type" and another folder by "Name"

any idea?
