Synaptics T460p Windows 7 - two fingers scrolling suddenly stops working

Q: Synaptics T460p Windows 7 - two fingers scrolling suddenly stops working

Dear Thinkpad fans, does anybody experience on Windows 7 that sometimes after couple of minutes/hours internal touchpad does not respond on two-finger scrolling for short period of time and than two-finger scrolling begins to work again?I am using patched Windows 7 + latest drivers that are available for T460p, e.g. Synaptics, touchpad firmware is 1.1. I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I currently have a HP pavilion tx2520ae laptop and now and again whilst im am working on it i suddenly get the message 'synaptics touchpad has stopped working with two options saying : close and check for a problem online and close', after this message appears the touchpad still works, however the scroll bar for the laptop does not, this is an inconvenience as i do alot of my school portfolios on my laptop, some of which are nearly 100 pages long and i am constantly editing it, so i need the scroll bar to save me time and effort.

When i restart the laptop however this problem is corrected, but after a while it appears again and constantly restarting the laptop every 10 minutes is just too much effort to waste on fixing a simple scroll bar.

When the message appeared, I had tried to go onto the mouse options on the control pannel and i got an error message saying 'unable to connect to the synaptics pointing device driver. if you have installed another PS/2 pointing driver please unistall the synaptics driver by clicking on the yes button. you then need to reinstall your pointing divce driver for your external device again.
Do you want to unistall the synaptics driver now?'

I have not installed any PS/2 pointing drivers but I decided to try and reinstall it again just to be sure but when I reinstalled it i had to restart my computer and when i came back on it was working fine... for a while. The message appeared again and reinstalling it was just a comp... Read more

Hi, hope there's someone who can help me with this.
I'm using an acer aspire laptop, and my touchpad stopped working suddenly for a while - and after some time - until now - I can't scroll using two fingers (I have synaptics installed and it was working fine). Also the UP key in the keyboard isn't working. When I restart the system, tapping on the touchpad doesn't make a click unless I press ENTER first. This happened suddenly out of nowhere. Any help will be much appreciated.

Please help me. sorry if my English is terrible. I have begun to use windows 10 with this PC so I don't know if the same situation happens in any case, anyway the problem is that the flick gestures of three fingers suddenly start to stop working after some time after starting the PC. Immediately after starting, they work. Idon't konw how long time do they need to prepare to stop working, but they do it suddenly, without any premonitory signs. The tap gesture of three fingers to call Cortana and all the other gestures continue to work regularly. Do you konw why this problem happens and how to resolve it? Thanks a lot.

Thus far I failed to identify the circumstances in which the touchpad stops working. It seems to sometimes happen when it checks for an update. What is also curious that the cursor will sometimes mess up such that the text cursor will be displayed as the context menu cursor. Not sure if this is related. The touchpad works again after restart. Everything is up-to-date, running Windows 10 (1909). The TrackPoint is unaffected by this.

Hi, I own a t460p which i alternatively use windows or GNU/Linux on. One thing though, many a times when i boot the laptop, the mini display port does not work. As in the screen does not detect any display. I usually use a 2 external screen setups. It is rather frustrating when this happens. I have changed the cables and screens in the beginning. But later realized it doesn't seem to be the screen.  This issue is quite weird, as sometimes i would boot it, and it will just work without problem. Most of the time it happens when I have not used the laptop for some days or if I have used it without dual monitors.  The following output might be helpful [email protected]:/var/log$ sudo lshw -C video

Hello all,

This is my first post here so with any luck, somebody will have to help me. Here's the problem. I start up Windows XP, I open "My Computer" and three devices are listed under the Devices with Removable Storage category: Floppy Drive, CD Drive, and DVD drive. So, I open up the drive and put a DVD in it. Close and then nothing happens (just two days ago, the same disc would autoplay and Windows would ask me what program I would like to use to play the content). The Busy light on the drive stays on and eventually, the drive disappears from those listed in "My Computer."

I reset, go into Windows XP (oh, the drive is detected and correctly identified by the BIOS) and open up "My Computer" again. However, this time I also open up Device Manager and go to my DVD drive (which is a BTC BDV316B). The device status is described as: "This device is working properly." I open it up put a disc in and close. And then suddenly, the device status changes to a Code 45 error (This device is not connected). I power down, note the data or power cable are already securely attached, give them an extra little push and restart. Go into Windows, same story.

In Event Viewer, I got these error message:
Event ID: 9
Source: atapi
Description: The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort1, did not respond within the timeout period.

When sniffing around my system in "Credential Manager", I found an unknown set of credentials known as "virtualapp/didlogical" which after a vague research, I deleted. CHECK THIS OUT...

Attachment 62236

After I deleted it, I finished my work and shut down my machine. A few hours later I went to login to my laptop using the same login credentials i've used since system setup....I COULDN'T LOGIN!!

After a tiny shart, I had the wherewithall to google "lost Win 8 passward" and found https://account.live.com/password/reset to reset my password. During login I was able to click on the wifi icon (bottom left) and connect to the internet and presumably my computer updated my new password via Microsoft's Server, and I logged in with the new password.

This. Is. Baffling.

And whats weirder...Once I fired up my computer and went to Credentials Manager again, the mysterious "virtualapp/didlogical" was back.

1. Why is my personal login connected to this weird "domain-like" service? My PW should be stored on my local machine NOT a Microsoft Server. This isn't a corporate environment where my personal login password is supposed to somehow be corporate knowledge.

2. How did this mysterious credential get recreated without my consent!!

I have a new Acer Aspire 1670 laptop which has worked fine for the past few weeks. However, I turned it on this morning (it worked fine last night) to find that my touchpad no longer works.

I don't feel this is a hardware issue in the sense that the touchpad has become unplugged from the internal PS/2 port, because the touchpad works for about 3-4 seconds after I log onto Windows/when the desktop loads up. That's the only time it works, it doesn't even work at the welcome/logon screen.

After those 3-4 seconds, something obviously happens that's preventing it from working.

I thought it might be my Wacom Graphire II graphics tablet, which is plugged in via USB 2. However, my touchpad and tablet have worked fine together for the past few weeks and have never caused any problems.

I unplugged the tablet, and uninstalled the tablet and touchpad drivers. I then rebooted, and - navigating around with the keyboard - reinstalled the touchpad drivers and rebooted. It still won't work.

Any ideas?

A:Synaptics touchpad suddenly stopped working

Two things:

1. Does the touchpad have an indicator light that shows you when it is activated? The one on my HP does.

2. Is there an On/Off button above the touchpad...there is on my HP. Did you accidently turn it OFF

I have a T470 laptop.  2 fingers scrolling using the touchpad is very erratic.  Sometime the scrolling seems to work very well.  All of a sudden, it will be very unresponsive.  Sometime, it thought 2 finger scrolling as right clicking or highlighting text.  I tried all the different sensitivity levels, turn off pinch to zoom and disable the trackpoint.  Nothing works.  This is very frustrating. Also, the touchpad just seems like it does not handle very fine pointer movement.  Most other laptop I used, you can move the pointer with a little bit of finger movement to place the pointer precisely where you want.  The pointer just does not do anything on the T470.  This is especially true the when you try to move the pointer up or to the left (right handed user).  Could be a texture thing. I have the latest synaptics driver  Is this the norm for thinkpad or this could be a hardware or driver issue?  Coming from a Microsoft surface pro 4, this touchpad is basically unusable even for the most basic task.  I would not have thought this could still be a problem for a 2017 laptop that cost $1200 and up.

I recenly purchased a 2017 Spectre 15 x360 (512/16/i7). Loving it so far except when using any 2 finger gestures on the trackpad. I noticed that whenever I scroll pages using 2 fingers or performing any 2+ finger gesures (like zooming or swiping up with 3 fingers to get task view), there is an annoying static/buzzing sound coming from the speakers. It just happens when 2+ fingers register on the trackpad. When I point around using 1 finger, the static isn't there. The sound does not get louder when I crank up the volume.  This is surprising since HP touts that special care has been involved in designing the audio components such as extra shielding and stuch. But it doesn't seem to be the case...    I recently updated the audio driver but rolled it back because it didn't fix a problem. But I didn't really notice any static before updating the driver. However, I'm not sure if this is the cause since I wasn't in a quiet enough place to notice.  It's not that big of a deal but in quiet environments, it is very noticable.

Recently I find that when I use two fingers to scroll down the web page or a file (eg. MS Word), this function will stop working suddenly sometimes. Then if I switch to another webpage (just by clicking another tab) and go back to that page, the function will go back to work. So werid! Anyone know how to fix it?

At several occasions now, my trackpad two-finger-scrolling stops functioning as it should after some time of using the system. It seems the gesture is still recognized, but it is handled incorrectly: rather than scrolling 'within' the selected window, the whole window seems to 'bounce' indicating I can't scroll any further. Scrolling with an external mouse works fine, as does scrolling with the touchscreen, as does moving the mouse to the scrollbar and click-dragging.
I have updated all latest drivers, except the BIOS which is on A06 since I do not want to upgrade it (yet) since the higher versions currently cause the screen's brightness to flicker. Unless this BIOS is known to address these issues (not listed in the details) I do not see a reason to upgrade it (again).
Worth noting is that this issue only seems to arise after some time of using the system (possibly after a few sleep sessions?).

I recently applied updates via Lenovo System Update and now the touch pad stops detecting multi-finger touches shortly after startup. It works for a few minutes, then I guess something either gets loaded or crashes and the touchpad stops detecting multiple fingers. Therefore, two finger scrolling and two finger pinch stop working. This was working fine about a month ago. Synaptics Pointing Device driver: SMBus Driver: 8.1 Enterprise - 64-bit Version 6.3.9600 Build 9600T550 - Model 20CK000GUS I tried to re-install the UltraNav driver and thatdidn't resolve the issue.

Hello community, I just received one week ago my X1 carbon 5th gen, P7, 16go, product 20HRCTO1WW, bios N1MET37W1.22. I am a Lenovo fan and I had notably the T400 and the T440s. Since the beginning, I have touchpad issues with my X1 carbon 5th gen: - when scrolling with two fingers, the touchpad accidentally clicks (as If I tapped with one finger in order to click) and I don't recall one session without accidentally clicking on diverse websites and browsers (chrome, opera, firefox). Each session, my touchpad clicks accidentally at least 3-5 times. It is tiring. - I just discovered also that I can't drag something from the corner from the bottom right to the top left corner of my touchpad : indeed, while dragging a folder for example, the touchpad clicks during the course of my finger (even though my finger already press the touchpad in order to drag...). It is after discovering the second problem that I understood that my touchpad has a physical problem. For a very expensive business machine, it is rather unacceptable. I am currently on a trip but as soon as I get back to Belgium, I will ask Lenovo to change my touchpad. I am most angry by the fact that I spent hours to check every possibility to change the options in the synaptics software and the windows precision software in order to stop this accidental clicks (problem one) and up to now I couldn't resolve it. For the moment, I have via synaptics to ignore taps in one edge region of the touchpad in order to scroll without ... Read more

I'm on Windows XP Pro Before my mic was working perfectly fine, but suddenly it isn't. I tested it using the Sound Recorder on Windows and nothing is being picked up, but I tested it on my laptop and it works fine there.

I looked in device manager and under Other Devices there's a yellow question mark next to Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus. I have an XFI Sound Card so I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, but that didn't help, so then I uninstalled the driver through the device manager, restarted and the driver reinstalled, but it's still the yellow question mark.

I'm using a computer built by a local tech guy with a monitor with built in speakers. Recently, the sound stops working in the middle of using the computer. When I reboot it, the sound works again. I read somewhere that flash content takes over the sound system and you have to reboot to get your sound back. Is there any truth to this? And what about Java, which I use for a chat room; can that do the same thing?

A:Sound suddenly stops working!!!

Hi GregCujo, and welcome to TSF.

Flash player is java based anyway so the answer is probably yes.

Try this fix and let us know if it solved your problem.

Update Java
Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.
First remove the older versions:Download JavaRa and unzip it to your desktop.
Double-click on JavaRa.exe to start the program.
Click on Remove Older Versions to remove the older versions of Java installed on your computer.
Click Yes when prompted. When JavaRa is done, a notice will appear that a logfile has been produced. Click OK.
A logfile will pop up. Please save it to a convenient location.
Now let's download and install the newest version:Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 7.
Click on Windows XP/Vista/2000/2003 Offline and save the downloaded file to your desktop.
Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.
Reboot your computer.

Do you have the sound drivers, or can you download them from the manufacturer's website? If so, I'd uninstall the sound drivers completely, then re-install them to see if it clears it up.

So my audio suddenly stops while playing Rainbow Six Siege. This has happen before while playing siege and is fixed by restarting siege and Uplay and only effects the game and nothing else. This time, everything that involves audio just stops working. Everything has been fine up until now.

I've tried doing system restores, uninstalling and installing the newest driver of the Realtek HD Audio Driver from Asus' website, made sure that the drivers were alright via Device Manager, removed any external drives, and checked for loose cables. Nothing worked so I tried using different headphones, but that did not fix it. Both headphones work when tested through my phone. BIOS has HD Audio enabled. I tried plugging my headphones into the rear jack and I got sound but there was a lot of "static" or "robotic sound" coming through them and the quality was horrible thus driving me to the conclusion that something went wrong with the front panel audio or my headphones are not being detected.

I have an Acer Aspire One D250 with a synaptics touchpad bought on March 20th which hasn't given me any problems till 3 days ago.

Friday, when I turned the computer on, the touchpad wasn't working. I tried Fn+F7 and nothing. The usual synaptics animated icon wasn't beside the clock. I went to the control panel>mouse>device settings and no device was listed there, while all the options were greyed out. I went to system>device manager and no "Mouse and other pointing devices" was listed. I went to Acer.pt (I'm from portugal) and downloaded the driver and installed it. The instalation went without problems and when I restarted the computer, the touchpad was still not working and nothing was listed on the device manager.

I called the Acer support line and the told me to restore the OS. I spent friday doing backups and I reinstalled Windows XP from Acer eRecovery Management. After all that, the touchpad wasn't working still.

Saturday was spent going to the store where I bought the netbook and trying to find a solution. Just as when I was going to give the netbook to warranty, a guy turned the computer on and the touchpad was magically working again.

I went home, all happy and warm and fuzzy inside.

Today, when I was copying my backups to the netbook again, I hit "cancel", and the icon next to the clock disappered and the touchpad stoped working again. Went to check, and nothing was listed on the device manager or on contro... Read more

Hi DeltaStrikeZeta and welcome to TSF !

So the same keyboard works with another installation of XP on the same computer ?

Does another keyboard work better ? Does a usb keyboard work ?

Were there some updates pending to be installed when you turned the computer off ? Had you installed anything new during the last session ?

Try booting on the installation that doesn't work and repeatedly pressing the F8 key. Can you get to the advanced options menu ? If so try "last known good configuration" and see if it helps.

Does your XP pro install CD have SP2 integrated ?

A few days ago file sharing (local: Windows 8.1, remote: Windows XP) suddenly stopped working. There is no error information.
Disabling antivirus program makes no difference. 8.1 does not have group policies. My IPv4 properties have file sharing enabled. I have also tried to disable sharing on the C drive and enable it again on the remote (Windows XP) computer.
Both computers are on the same home network and have different names and IP addresses.
Similar to bug https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/66479445-9834-485a-a6db-fa082242dfb3/file-and-printer-sharing-to-enable-does-not-work-anymore?forum=win10itpronetworking, which received no useful answer. The questioner GAVE UP.

Does Microsoft know how to use its own products? Why do its answers usually not work? Seriously.

I am watching a youtube video and the volume would stop working.. So, I would have to refresh the youtube video and get back to the part I left off, and it's very annoying and i'm wasting my monthly usage.

Also, I would on iTunes and same problem.. after 1-2 minutes of audio, it would suddenly stop working.

When I am playing a video from Windows media player, i would get an error message that says "An audio device was disconnected or reconfigured. Verify that the audio device is connected, and then try to play the item again".

I tried restarting my computer and it didn't help, my speakers/audio have been working fine for the past year until a couple days ago :S

A:My sound on computer suddenly stops working, please help

What is the audio chipset status in Device Manager when the problem occurs? If the audio chipset if greyed out or not listed, there is a hardware fault.

All of a sudden many of my programs either won't launch or stops working right after launch.
I have googled for a long time on this matter, but I'm no wiser.
I have no "reset" point that can fix this, and I have tried "sfc /scannow" (without having a clue what it does). After the sfc /scannow, the command prompt message said I had some corrupt files, and not all of them could be fixed automatically.

Does anyone know what can cause several programs to stop working all of a sudden, and what can possibly fix it?
(Without re-installing Win 8 of course)

A:Several programs suddenly won't launch or stops working

In the elevated command prompt type
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Then run the sfc /scannow again and reboot when finished

The sfc command repairs corrupt system files and the dism command repairs windows components.

ok, i'll make this short, my friend accidently unplugged my external Western Digital 1TB HDD drive from my laptop while I was using it, as well as knocking out the power cord simultaneously. i dont recall actually using anything on the drive or transferring files to/from at the time this happened. But in any case, i plugged it back in and it just wouldnt let me read from it anymore in Computer. The drive's icon was still there but wouldnt let me open it in either Explorer, Total Commander, or Directory Opus. Explorer froze up several times and i had to kill the process. and a few other apps i started attempted to access something on the drive and froze when they couldnt do so. I then removed the drive when Safe Eject failed to work. after plugging it back in the drive's icon disapeared from Explorer entirely. I also noticed that the driver for the drive disappeared from Device Manager, whereas it was there before.

I have tried plugging it into several other PCs, with varying results. In any case I can sometimes view the folders/files in this situation, and can sometimes open them. But at other times i cant. and even when i can the drive takes an unusually long time to respond.

I have also tried booting into a Live Linux distribution from USB key and then plugging in the drive, and then attempting to copy them over to another external HDD that i also have plugged in. But the drive access is extremely slow and it often freezes up in the middle of trying to copy. This is unusu... Read more

A:External HDD Suddenly Stops Working (Well, Sort Of)...................

Did the drive itself suffer any physical shock during the accident? Did it fall off the table?

Obviously it might be failing, but I could imagine that there was somehow physical damage to the USB cable or socket on the drive's enclosure, possibly even the AC adapter (unlikely if the drive is spinning and getting power just fine).

I'm not sure what to suggest that you haven't tried already, but perhaps a run with TestDisk will shed more light on things: Regain a lost drive using Test Disk - An Illustrated Guide

Specs: DELL XPS M1530, 4 GB RAM, Running WInodws 7 Home. At random times my keyboard will stop working on my laptop. I went into device manager and there are no yellow marks. Only thing that gets it back is either a reboot, or to press the power button for a second and wait for it to sleep, and then press it again to reawaken it.  I have no viruses, walmare, or any other crapware. I have no windows 7 dvd yet- even though they said it was shipped. Any ideas? Should I uninstall a keyboard driver from the device manager?

A:Keyboard suddenly & randomly stops working

I haven't tried an external keyboard, but I uninstalled the driver, rebooted, windows automatically installed it and rebooted again. So far so good, but I guess I really won't know for a few more days. So far so good though.
