connecting Home pc's with PC Configurator 2.20

Q: connecting Home pc's with PC Configurator 2.20

After reading much about the values of having a window boot cd such as "Ultimate Boot cd for Windows ver 2.5" I finally created the boot cd based on Bart's PE. I thought that if anything ever went wrong with one of the two home XP SP2 machines I could use the boot cd to transfer important files via the home network by accessing the "Network Configurator" to easily transfer the files.

Well the boot cd works perfectly, but after many hours of trying I just can't access the local network. Inside the configurator under Map Network Drive there are boxes such as:
Network Path:
User Name:
Password:

I have tried many combinations relative to the HOME network accounts but have failed in connecting to the network.

The HOME system connects via a D-Link cable router DI-704P

I would be very pleased if some has been successful in connecting their home network in the way I have described.

Thanks,

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I have a Dell Latitude D620 with a Dell Wireless WLAN. I connect to my wireless connection at home fine, but any time I take my computer to a wifi hotpsot, it cannot connect. I SEE that there is a network there, I click "connect" to that network, and my computer doesn't do anything. My Wireless is set to obtain IP addresses automatically, so that is not the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I might try to fix this??

Thanks!

So I guess this is in the off-topic section and if I posted in the wrong section again, I'm sorry.

I have noticed that whenever I startup my computer, Razer Configurator kept poping out showing me my settings which usually isn't the case after it has loaded. But after the last update, it kept showing up. Is there a way to prevent this? I have tried re-installing but it didn't work.

Can someone give some advice on this?

Go to start, type in msconfig, and press enter. When msconfig opens, find the Razer program and untick the checkbox for it. Then, hit apply and then hit ok and click on restart now.

What type of cable are you using, and which ports are you connecting it to?

Also to get rid of the password request make sure that you create identical user accounts on both PCs, with the same usernames and passwords (which are case sensitive).

Hi,

I'm helping a friend to set up their BT Home Hub but can't seem to get the PC to connect to it. Unfortunately I have little experience in this so am not really much help!

Everything is wired up correctly and the right lights come on on the Hub when its switched on. The software installs fine but it cannot find a connection.

The PC is running windows XP and used to connect fine with a BT voyager router. There is various security software installed on the computer.

My guess is that something already installed on the computer is causing the problem but I don't know what. I don't use my windows machine to connect to the internet so I'm not really sure what to do next.

My questions are as follows:

1) Is it likely to be the security or old BT software causing the problem?

2) If it is, is there a way of disabling it all without removing the software. If not should I just go ahead and remove it all? (I'm sure the new hub comes with its own security).

3)If my guess is wrong what else could it be? Its supposed to be simple to set up so I think something must be wrong somewhere rather than me being daft (although I haven't ruled that out just yet!!! ).

If it was my own PC I'd just blunder around trying things until I got it working. Its not though, so hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.

I'd really appreciate any help you can give.

Thanks in advance

A:Need help connecting to BT Home Hub

What is the exact model of the BT Home Hub? If the machine was running on a router previously, it should connect to this new device, since it's also a router. With the machine connected, let's see this:

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

Your laptop still thinks it's at work when trying to connect at home. Assuming your work, and your home configure their clients with DHCP what you do is the following:

In XP & 2000:

START->RUN->CMD

at the prompt type:

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

Hi and welcome

I suspect your problem has to do with homegroup. when you set up networking in the windows install you chose a "home network" makes sense. Homenetwork however assumes all computers will be win 7.

To resolve the problem go to network and shaing where you set up networking in the first place and choose a work network instead. You can also turn off IPv6 as it is only needed in homegroup

In workgroup xp sees win 7, and win 7 sees XP

Let us know if this doesnt work

I'm somewhat confused. How exactly are you going to use those DOS programs on the XP machine?

A detailed tutorial will be difficult, since MS-DOS networking requires manual configuration, and it will depend on the specific NIC you have, and the drivers in question.

How about telling us what you want to accomplish?

Tnx in advance.cheers

A:Connecting home theatre to pc

Hi goga. Hard to tell from your picture but I think you may only be able to connect 2 channel stereo to the Texoni . A Google search does not provide much info on this home theater unit. The Digital Coax Out on the Texoni is to output a digital signal to another compatible unit. It cannot be used as a input so you are out of luck here

Your Creative SB0220 is an older PCI connection which your motherboard does not support. So even if you could find Win 7 drivers this would not work. Besides, it would not offer surround sound if used with your Texoni.

I?m sure you don?t want to hear this but to get Surround Sound from your PC to your stereo you will need to purchase a Home Theater Receiver that offers 5.1 input connections.

Hi All,

I have a UTSTARCOM 300r2u configured as a router to distribute my internet connection between a desktop and a laptop.

I have installed a no-ip.com client so that i can access my desktop without having to worry about the dynamic ip with which my router is configured. The problem is that i am able to connect to my router when i type my hostname http://<something>.no-ip.com.

Even though i've tried port forwarding(donno if what i did was correct!), i am unable to access the shared drives on my desktop from outside my Home lan. I tried easy fileshare webserver, but even then when i type my hostname it automatically goes to the homepage of my router, not the homepage of the Easy fileshare webserver...

Can someone please help me in configuring this router so i can access my desktop from other networks???

Your "work" will probably be firewalled?
What are you trying to connect to, a server at work?
How are you trying to connect?
Has provision been made by the "work" IT people (VPN etc) for you to access any server?

Here is the situation: I am living at an apartment complex that uses a single connection for the same building (at least). This connection is hooked into a router that reassigns IP addresses for that building. For instance: IP addresses in this building will be something like 172.16.X.X. Everyone has the same external IP address past the router-assigned IP address.

Since I do not have access to the devices, I am unsure how to connect to a home server outside (or for that matter, inside) the network. I have successfully implemented a TeamSpeak server in which both someone inside and outside the network were able to connect, but this does nothing to help me in the current situation.

I would also like to mention that I am hooked up to a home router, which assigns the IP addresses 10.0.0.X.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated

so, I cant get it to recognize the CD rom, and I therefore can't load windows or any programs.

My thought is that I might be able to pull the Hard drive and Attach it to my home PC, and simply transfer my needed programs that way....
I have looked at it, and the HD was easy enough to remove, but how do I connect it ? my home PC has an extra 4-wire plug, which looks like it would be for a second HD, but this laptop they has some plug that ive never seen before
(I dont know much about laptops)

Anyway, this is a Compaq Armada 1580...... (p166/32meg/2.1gig hd).

Can anyone offer good advice?
All responses appreciated.

Hi.

So basically, I'm having issues connecting two computers. One has XP Home Edition, and the other has XP Professional. Both connect to the internet just fine, but are unable to connect to each other.

I've tried just about everything, on every support website, and paying Microsoft for help is beyond insane. I'm basically at the point that I'm glad I shave my head, or I'd be pulling my hair out.

When I view the workgroup computers on the XP Pro machine, I can see both computers. I can access every file on the XP Pro machine, from the XP Pro machine, but unable to access the XP Home machine, despite being able to see it in the list.

When I try to access the XP Home machine, I get the infamous 'Access denied due to permissions' message. I've checked permissions, and both machines are set to Full Control. Both machines require no password to login to. Both are on a non-wireless router, and the router has no firewall settings from what I could see.

XP Home machine, can't even access the workgroup, yet the XP Pro machine can. XP Home gets an error stating the workgroup isn't accessable, then says "Network Path not found". How can that be, if I can see the machine on the XP Pro machine?

I just want to transfer files between my machines, and I'm fairly sure I have everything set up correctly, but apparently I don't have permission (from myself? ) to access my own computer across a network.

I'm honest... Read more

1. If the printer has a network card in it.. You can set it up on your network and create a network printer on each computer to allow them to print to that specific printer. This, without having it hooked to a PC.

2. If your printer does not have a network card in it, then you could consider purchasing a print server. This is a small box that your printer hooks up to and it has another hook up for a network cable. Kind of emulates number 1 above.

3. Is to have the printer hooked to a computer, SHARE it on that computer. Then you will have to install a network printer on each of the other computers so they can print to it. Downfall here is... the computer where the printer is directly attached, has to be turned on when you intend to print.

The cheapest way would be 3. However, it can be a pain at times. If you don't want to pay out good money for a printer that has a network card in it, or can be installed in it... then I would go with number 2. This will eliminate the extra PC on when printing.

The print servers do not cost that much, around $60.00. However, going this way, you have to make 100% SURE that your printer is compatible with the print server. If the information on the print server does not specify your printer, then don't buy it. It most likely will not work with it.

Does that help a little?

A:Problems connecting to home network

Are you using wireless, or hard wired with an ethernet cord ?

Wireless can be very weak, from room to room (signal wise) This can be dependant on a number of issues:
Distance
Thickness of walls
Electromagnetic radiation (if other equipment is close by - including wires in walls)

If you are speaking ethernet cable, please check the cable by disconnecting and re-connecting it.

By the way, from going back to the original room, does it work again ?

Hi,

I've been trying to connect to a users home drive on a Win2000 server, from a W98 machine without much luck.
The command I use is "net use H: \home" but this only connects me to the USERS shared directory on the server. The user has to physically select their home folder from Explorer. The mapped drive is listed as "Users on Server" instead of "%username% on H:"

Thanks

A:connecting to user home folder

You should use User Manager to configure it:

1. Click the Profile button. The User Profile dialogue box appears.
In the Local Path text box, type the following exactly as shown:

c:\users\%username%

where c:\ is the partition where your Windows NT workstation is installed.

Note: If the directory c:\users does not exist, you must create it. You can create a directory from the Windows NT Explorer.

2. Click Ok to accept and close the dialogue box.
3. Click Ok to close the New User dialogue box.

A directory is created under c:\users that contains the same name as the user's login account.

I just bought my Dell inspiron laptop windows 7 today when I first turned it on I set up my home wireless connection and it was working fine. I was streaming a movie on Netflix when my Internet connection was lost. I have not been able to get Internet since then. It says I'm connected to my home wifi but that I have no Internet connection and the web browser will not load. I have a toshiba laptop windows xp an iPod an xbox360 and they all connect perfectly to the wifi. It was working fine then it just disconnected I have not gotten any Internet connection for hours and I please want to know what I can do to solve this problem. Many others seem to have a similar problem. I would be so thankful for a solution, thanks!!

A:Home Wireless Internet not connecting

Morning,
Sorry to hear about your issues, I've had some odd issues with my version of Home Premium. If I have ever lost connection to the internet I normally rebooted by Router then it came back and worked however I assume you would already have done this as that would be the first thing most people do to resolve it. If you try resetting the IP address given to your machine this may solve the issue and to do this do the following:

Click Start
Type CMD and right click "Run as Administrator"
When the prompt comes up click ok
When the CMD box comes up type the following in "ipconfig /release" (Without quotes) Your network connection will drop this is normal.
Type "ipconfig /renew" (again without quotes)

Now what happens is the Router is giving your network adapter a different IP address and it should then connect to the Internet again.

If this doesn't work re-post here and get me the name of your Wireless Network Adapter (Found under Hardware Device Manager - Click my Computer and select Manage and select OK as UAC prompts you to validate yourself. Then Click Device Manager. Your Wireless Card will be listed under Network Adapters). Sometimes what can happen is that incorrect drivers can cause weird (and sometimes wonderful) Issues and updating the drivers with the vendors drivers fixes it.

Regards,
James

Hi,

A few days ago I lost connection with the internet on my computer and I have been unable to fix the problem. My computer is connected via an ethernet cable which runs into a power plug (plugged into the wall beside my computer) which then connects to another power plug downstairs which is connected to my router. The wifi from my router is working fine on devices such as my phone, the issues im having is with the ethernet connection.

When trouble shooting a message appears saying "Local Area connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration". I have tried various 'fixes' which I have found online but none have worked. I attempted to try the 'ipconfig/release" and "ipconfig/renew" method on cmd, howver when trying this I got further errors saying "no operation can be performed on local area connection 2 while it has its media disconnected" and "unable to contact DHCP server. Request timed out".

I have managed to establish a wireless connection on my pc using a wireless adaptor and it is working fine, although I would prefer to fix the ethernet connection.

Is there any further advice anyone could give me?
Paul

A:Issues with Connecting to Internet on Home pc

One of things I have found that works some times, is to power down ALL systems connected to the wired network. Then power up each machine one at time. Wait long enough for each system to get connected to the network. Even check to make sure that each machine connects to the internet before starting up another machine.

A:Connecting my laptop to the internet at home

It might be nice for us to know ....

1) How your desktop computer connects to the Internet now.

2) If the laptop you plan to purchase has built-in wi-fi (wireless).

Hi,
Here is the problem I'm having:

I'm on the laptop using college WiFi. I need to use an application that connects to the internet (SAP NETWeaver). I cannot login to application. The error message I get means I need ports 3297, 3299 and 3206 to be opened in order to connect, which the college WiFi does not allow. It works fine on my home desktop's internet connection.

Is it possible to connect from my college WiFi - then connect securely (or insecurely, I'm desperate) to my home networks internet connection -and from there connect to SAP and log on successfully?

I don't know if what I'm asking is impossible, wrong or really straightforward so any response is helpful.

A:Connecting to home internet from college Wi-Fi

Well; if your college is blocking access to those ports; then chances are you wont be able to access that application thats on your home connection because they are blocking it most likely due to the obvious security issues, etc. Realistically i dont think it will be possible to do this unless someone else knows something that i dont.

I run a home server on an old windows vista desktop (insparon) and it had some viruses and old programs taking up space that I had no need for so I decided to do a clean install of vista to reset it to factory settings.

This server is for minecraft which me and some friends play on. The server was working great until I did the clean install. Now whenever someone on my network (such as me on my laptop) tries to join the server wirelessly, they get timed out within 30 seconds.

Everyone else on other networks can join fine (as I have port forwarded correctly) but it seems to be an internal network problem. I can play on the server fine on my own network if I use a WIRED connection but as this is not an option I would like to figure out whats wrong. I can also connect to the server if I go to a friends house or just any network different from the one the server is running on.

Someone on the minecraft forum suggested I "DMZ my computer's ip from my networks firewall as these things tend to act as blockers to inter network connecting". He also said to "set my firewall to allow private connection on the port I am using for minecraft". Although I've heard these are incorrect, they sounded like good suggestions at the time.I really want to figure out whats wrong and fix this and I am hoping someone here can help. I have been pulling my hair out for days trying to figure out whats wrong but have discovered nothing. It would mean a lot if you could help... Read more

A:Problem Connecting to Home Server

Some routers have a "wireless isolation" feature that prevents Wi-Fi connected devices from accessing ethernet connected. But there should have been no change with the Vista recovery/reset.

Maybe a firewall or security suite on the Vista that is configured to block wireless but not wired?

With a wireless connection can you ping the Vista by IP address? By computer name? To join the server are you accessing it by its LAN IP address or by computer name?

I have a guy at work whom his computer keeps bluescreening while at home trying to connect to our VPN. I for the life of me cannot figure out what it is. A:BSOD while connecting to work VPN while at home.

None that I can see.

Lsass errors with thie message seemed to occur frequently with Win 2000...but I don't see much for XP errors. Also seems to be related frequently to print function.

Have you checked Event Viewer for possible clues?

The obvious thing would be to uninstall the network drivers this person is using and reinstall them, IMO.

No one else at your worksite has this problem?

Hi.

Is it possible to access my home network while away from home: to be able to browse the network, access PCs, and access my file server? If so, how can it be done? Is doing this different from using software like PCAnywhere?

My home network system consists of a cable modem with a Linksys 4-port Router (BESRU31).

Thanks.

A:Remotely Connecting to Home Network?

Remote access software like pcAnywhere let you take over a computer that is on your network. What you see on the screen is what would be seen on the remote computer. If that is good enough then programs like pcAnywhere, RADMIN, NetOP or VNC would work fine. Be aware there a differences in performance, stability and features between them.

If you want to access your home network as if it was a LAN, you would need VPN for that. You would see the remote VPN server as another mapped drive like on a regular network. XP Pro has VPN server built in but only allows one connection at a time.

Hello again, well, I'm keeping the laptop for a few afterall and I want/need to tie the two of them together somehow.
I need to rescue the information from the laptop and save it to my PC in case it crashes during surgury.
SO, without taking out harddrives, (Not compatible.. One's a LAPTOP) lol
I don't care about the web, but I have dial up and modems. (I also have LAN modems, cables, and routers but no DSL service) Do I connect all that somehow and run a service in either my XP system, (the laptop), or do something through the PC, (Win 2000) It seems like I've tried every combination.
System info on em probably won't help as all my builds are always Frankenstiens, but they can both handle it.
A schematic of the network would really help, as well as real laymans instructions as I just haven't even been able to grasp the basics.
Thank you. I'll be out here for a while tonight, I'll keep checking back.
Sincerely,
policetac
