I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

you've got to try and update your device drivers for the card. you can look up your model on your card's manufacturer's website, and downlaod the appropriate driver. i'd try playing your files on another media player and see if you get the same problem.

When i pressed the restart button, the hard drive sounded different it sounded clicky but really subtle. Then mah comp cant recognize mah ide drive, so that lead me to the decision of formating. i put on win98 and ME disk to get into prompt and i typed in a: and c: format c:, i did this and i got a message"Format not supported in C: Format Terminated". A:Soundcard problem

What do you have built in? Many of thodse already support 5.1. But you don't need any special card to use the Logitech Z-640---it will work as a normal stereo system minus enhancements if your card doesn't support them.

Hey guys,
So just recently, my computer audio has been acting a bit...weird.
I can listen to music from my Windows Media Player, Itunes etc
but I can't listen to music from websites; Youtube, MySpace etc.
Can't seem to locate a problem.
Soundcard drivers are up to date.

I did find something out of the ordinary though,
Do you guys (running xp) have a little "speaker" type icon in the bottom right toolbar type thing.
and when you double click, it goes to advance functions for audio?
well for me, that disappeared, and when i go to control panel to bring it up, it says i have not audio hardware.
Weird eh?

For a long time now I have a problem with the soundcard of my motherboard. When I restart my computer sound doesn't works and I get a device error in Windows Media Player and Winamp, by going to the Device Manager I can see that there is indeed a problem and with a unstill and refreshing the Device Manager (basically re-installing the driver) the soundcard works again. But I am getting tired of this and I wanted to know if there is any way to solve this problem so I don't need to reinstall the driver every time again.

I have had this soundcard problem on Windows XP Professional and MCE as these are the two only operating systems that I have used so far (except Linux but I didn't tested my soundcard there).

Hardware Specs:
Motherboard: Albatron KX 600 Pro
Processor: AMD Athlon XP 2500+

I bought a new asus p5b motherboard a couple of weeks ago and it has been working fine in my new pc. Previously I had one graphics card using a pci-x slot (due to it's size it also covers one of the three pci slots :-( ). Then in the other two slots I had a wireless adapter and a sound card, each worked fine.

Now however i bought a firewire card and attempted to install it in the soundcards place (I can live with onboard sound), however this has caused problems:

1) The firewire is not recognised (although if i try it in the wireless slot, the card does work, indicating that the slot must be faulty - however the sound card works in there)

2) I cannot use sound on my pc now that the soundcard is removed, onboard sound does not seem to work.

Are there any solutions to either of these problems, thanks alot.

A:Soundcard problem

Sometimes because of resource assignments and/or card pecularities some cards won't work in certain slots. If you put the firewire card in the "sound card slot" it works. Will the network card work in the other slot?

Generally onboard sound is automatically enabled and disabled in BIOS, but check in BIOS to make sure that it is enabled. Do you have the onboard sound card drivers installed?

When I try to play a music file using Music Match JukeBox, I get an error message:

MMJB Soundcard Problem
WaveOut Format not supported.

The music file wil not play.

When I close the window I get another message:

MMJB has caused an error in Kernel 32.DLL

I cannot play in Windows Media Player either.

However, when a CD is placed into the drive, MusicMatch plays it.

I have re-installed MusicMatch, but still no joy.

Any suggestions?

A:Soundcard Problem?

Um, there could be a configuration problem with MusicMatch. I don't use it so I couldn't really help you there, but make sure that the audio output setting isn't WaveOut, make it something else that you know will work. Otherwise try playing it in a different music player, and if all else fails, get the latest driver, or reinstall your driver.

Well, I was running Windows98 and did not have the CD that came with the computer. I ddid however happen to have a Windows 2000 CD laying around so I installed that. I managed to get that setup and I got the DSL and all my peripherals installed. It was at this time that I realized that the sound on my computer does not work. I have an onboard soundcard and I went out and bought a SB soundcard, just a cheapie so my wife can play her CDs on the computer while working. I installed it and still nothing. I checked the speakers to maker sure they were plugged in a turned on. Still nothing. I searched on the net and found out how to turn off my onboard soundcard in my BIOS. Still nothing. I am at my wits end and I have no idea how to proceed. Can someone shed some light on what I might need to do?

Did you uninstall the previous drivers before installing the new ones or did you install over them?

one possible solution is delete the soundcard from device manager reboot and let windows recognize it on start up and re innstall the drivers.

another is, and I dont mean to sound insulting (but this has happend to me in upgrades). make sure that the sound isnt on mute. I have had that happen during an upgrade and spent hours trying to figure out what was wrong only to find that during the upgrade the #@#@$& sound somehow got set on mute.

This is one of the stranger problems I've had with this computer (this computer being the one I've been loaned until I can afford a new one).

I've been using, or been trying to use, Skype, which works fine for a random amount of time (anywhere from five minutes to an hour) and then suddenly cuts out so that I can't hear anything from the person at the other end whatsoever, though he can still hear me. We've also tried Icq and the same thing happened which led me to think it's not a software issue.

We're both using headsets, my soundcard is a Creative SB Audigy 2, his is a Realtek AC97 Audio.

This soundcard already clashes with Norton, I figured it'd be just my luck for something else to go wrong...

I recently bought the longest journey game, however when playing the speech on the game, stutters, I have tried various setups for the soundcard which is a soundblaster 16pci, but it continues to happen, I don't think the cd-rom is a problem as it is new and the requirements are met for the game.
I have installed the game on another machine which I believe had the same soundcard and it works fine. Although it was win 98 & mine is win 95, can anyone give me any sugestions.

A:Soundcard problem

Well depending on your system spec's it could be that the game require's to much horsepower. could have some hard drive swapping going on and limiting the sound cards abilities. If you have 64 meg of ram an additional 64 would help. Try turning some of the game settings down or to most compatible and see if the problem gets better. Try ending all tasks running except for the game to free up resources. I am not familiar with the game but the symptom relates to the machine not having enough speed and power to run it at max settings.

Hi guys. Well, here is the problem. I have a Creative Soundblaster Audigy soundcard. The card works fine when i turn the computer on but once the computer goes into sleep mode and i bring it back out the sound does not work. If i restart the computer the sound works again just fine until the computer goes to sleep. Another way to get it to work is to go into sound on the control panel, right click and hit test, it will then work and be fine. Also, i try to update the drivers and i download the correct ones but when i try to load them they say that they do not detect a supported device. In the system folder of the control panel it lists the Audigy card correctly. Any ideas as to waht might be going on here? Oh, also, when you put the mouse pointer over the speaker in the taskbar at the bottom of the screen it says "Digital Audio Interface, SB Audigy" Ive made sure the card is seated properly and the cord is in the correct hole and secure. I also made sure the onboard sound on the motherboard is turned off. I am running a dual core pentium 3.0 with 2G Ram, a ASUS P5N-E Sli motherboard, a Geforce 8800 764 MB graphics card, a 500gb hardrive and a SB Audigy soundcard in Vista 32bit. Thanks guys.

hey, got a problem. theres no sound playing back when it should be. one day (about a week ago), i started up my comp, and it (my soundcard driver i guess) just stopped working as if it was disabled. checked if it was, nope. i found that it worked when i disabled the realtek soundcard and re-enabled it. it worked once, playing music and all, but that doesnt work anymore. started it up after getting it working and it stopped working again. ive had this pc (soundcard and driver included) for maybe 6 months and never had a problem up until a week ago. i tried looking for drivers hoping maybe something got currupted but i cant find the xp recovery disk or any drivers online. it HAS to be a software problem because when i turn the speakers all the way up, i can hear the feedback from the speakers and when i check the actual device, it says its working properly. cant be hardware. anyway, forgive me if i didnt explain this problem up to par, im kind of computer illiterate. please help if you can, all feedback and solutions would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

Hey there,

After reading you post, the first thing that came to mind washardware failure!!!

However, there are a couple of thing you can try to make 100% sure!!

1.) try downloading the latest driver from wwwdriversguide.com, they are usally quite upto date with the lastest stuff.

2.) as simple as this might sound, you can check the cable that it is plugged in correcly with a nice clean connection, perhaps a beakage in the cable could be a possiblity..........

Hope this proves to help...

I've encountered a strange problem with MusicMatch Jukebox I've never experienced before. MMJB came included with my Dell system. It's an older version of MMJB (ver 4.3.058), but I prefer it over newer versions.

My favorite thing about MMJB is I could rip songs from CD's to make MP3's and was able to do it at a much faster speed, like 8x. I could back-up an entire CD is just a few minutes.

In the last few days, I tried backing-up a new CD but found that the record speed would start out at 8.7x, but immediately drop to 1.0x speed and continue that way for the rest of the CD, on both of my CDR drives. What happened to the fast record speed? To the best of my knowledge, I have changed nothing . No settings changes on MMJB or any of my CDR drives, so what the heck happened? Anyone have any advice? You can email me at [email protected]

in security option ,by mistake all the users like (administrator,user..etc) r deleted except system .i try to made new users .i have taken ownership, the drive is accessible but still some things like videos, games r not working. it shows that the format not supported

A:format not supported

For the videos that won't play, check the permissions on the individual files. There is the whole matter of how the permissions are "inherited" or not. And, of course, check to see if the format of the videos has been altered [are they still vob, mp4, avi, mov, wmv, etc.?] Try playing the videos from different players - if they don't play in any, and their formats do seem to have been altered, you could make a copy of a video to test with, then try a free file conversion tool to see if it plays after converting it to another format.

For the games, it might be easiest to run a "repair" re-install, if it shows as an option in Programs & Features (Control Panel). You could check at the website for the game, and they might have information as to whether your game offers the "repair" install option.

Let us know how it goes.

First, do not overclock.

You can fix resource issues with playing APIC settings in BIOS, disabling unneeded devices like COM and LPT ports, VGA IRQ.

I have two problems that are really annoying.
1. My monitor keeps resetting like it does when you change resoution (or switch it on and off quickly) but it does it at any given moment and for no reason. I have download the latest video card driver (its a gforce 3 ti 200) from nvidia and it hasnt made a difference. I have always used the default windows monitor driver without problem for the last few years.

2. My sound card driver resets itself every reboot so there is no sound, although device manager says it is working correctly. Control panel>sounds reports no sound device. I have to uninstall and let P&P reinstall itself. It works fine until reboot. I was wondering if this was anything to do with services.msc as I made a couple of changes recently but dont have restore running as a backup.

I am new to the Forum and not exactly computer literate but am having major problems trying to fit a Philips Acoustic Soundcard. The number on the back of the card is PSC706, but the box gives the number DSG469212.

Problem 1 - The card would have to be fitted upside down in order to screw in the tab & have the plug ports facing out.

Problem 2 - The card currently in the pc has 2 connections. One is twin wires that appear to clip onto the face of the card and the other is a grey strap connector. I cannot see any possible place on the new card for the 2 wire connector to fit or the grey strap.

On the edge of the new card there are 4 small black boxes. One has 2 pins & the remaining 3 boxes have 4.

Problem 3 - On checking the net for a driver, there only appear to be options for Win NT, 2000 or XP. Can this soundcard be run on Win98 does anybody know?

I apologise if the explanation is rather long-winded and not exactly technical but I am not in any way knowledgeable about such things and would greatly appreciate any assistance please.

do you have the manual ? if not get it here. I'll download it anyway (2+MB !) and have a look.

Before you do anything else, please create a folder for HijackThis and put it in a permanent folder (like C:\HJT) instead of the Temp folder. This is required because HijackThis will create backups and we don't want them to be deleted.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Hi Guys,

Hope you can help me with a problem I am having with my soundcard its been bugging me for weeks.

Right the story is this I have built a HTPC and I have purchased a Trust 514DX soundcard with SPDIF optical/coax.

I have a set of acoustic solutions DS533 Surround sound speakers with a built in dolby decoder.

The problem I am having is no matter what I do I cannot get dolby digital to work on the speakers it only plays stereo.

Apparently the card can only produce stereo sound through the spdif but I was wondering if its possible to bypass this so my dolby decoder sorts out the surround sound?

If I put a DVD in the drive and play it through PowerDVD it only plays it in stereo it wont activate dolby digital. Am I being a complete Noob??? I have enabled SPDIF on the sound card settings the sound card is connected to the speakers via coax cable i have also enabled SPDIF in PowerDVD its really getting on my nerves.

Hope you can help me here!

Thanks in advance

I have a soundblaster Sound card installed into my Comp
I've just Bought a USB headset
I can only get sound coming out of headset or speakers not both at the same time is there any way I can have sound coming through Headset and Speakers

A:Soundcard/Headset Problem

Unfortunately, I've never dealt with this sort of thing. It is probably a setting in the software for the headset to automatically disable alternate sound devices when it is plugged in. Can you provide a model of the headset? You may wish to contact them to verify both can play sound at the same time.

I have PIII 550 mhz box. Trying to install Soundblaster Audigy Platinum soundcard. Initially couldn't get to recognize the hardware in the PCI slot. Seemed to get the drivers installed, though I noted VERY long time to install from CD, and I thought might be bad disk initially. Finally seems to recognize the soundcard, but on start-up get two error boxes - "soundcard not installed properly" (paraphrased), and no sound. Tried different PCI slots, triple- checked all connections. Note I do recall had problem before installing LAN card and drivers and think had to reload whole operating system per my tech assist. Also note had to reinstall video card drivers a month ago or so. A friend said I need the drivers for the motherboard as something with the soundcard is not being recognized?? Problem is had box put together and have none of this. The computer seems to be running slower than usual, and on start-up the icons take a few secs to draw and was blazing. Have 30 gig mem 1/3 full. Any ideas?

I have a Jetway 939 SLI mobo with the nForce4 chipset that has the onboard sound. I was playing Tiger Woods golf 2 nights ago, turned off the computer, and when i turned it back on in the morning, I had no sound. Went to Dxdiag/Sound, and there is no sound device installed. I tried to reinstall the drivers from the mobo installation disc and got the error, "Cannot install the hardware. Invalid data." Tried different drivers, same result. Tried to do a system restore. That didn't work. So I went and bought a PCI soundcard today, disabled the onboard sound in the BIOS, went to install the drivers and got the above error message again. What gives? I didn't touch anything that might have uninstalled the onboard drivers to begin with, and there is no reason why the PCI card won't work. (At least not anything I can think of!) Anybody care to render a guess?

I just installed Windows XP on my HP. It has a modem/soundcard combo thing.
It is called:
Rockwell RipTide combo card (supports v.90 K56 Flex protocols)

So Windows is running fine on it, and I'm using it right now with a cable modem, but the dial up modem won't work.
The weird thing is, is that the sound works, but when I try to dial up to the internet, it says "modem hardware failure".
I have gone to the hardware wizard, and it does not detect a modem. So I add one manually, and it still won't work.
Every troubleshooting thing I have found says to make sure your modem is plugged in and turned on. It has to be for my sound to be working.
In device manager, the modem is enabled and says it is working properly, but I just don't know what could be wrong.
Do you think it is possible that the modem died and the soundcard didn't? But they are all one card.
Or is my modem just not compatible with XP??
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi there,

I need some help! Basically, I have a motherboard: Foxconn Socket 754 3000+ Motherboard bundle 760GXK8MB-RS with Athlon 64 3000+ CPU and CMA-K8-2B Fan with an integrated sound card (RealTek Ac-97 Audio). My little brother decided he wanted to download a virus, so having rebooted windows, the audio didn't work! I thought I'd try reinstalling it from the device manager, once I uninstalled it, there's no way iteven recognises anything apart from codecs! I've tried installing the drivers via the cd, but I'm pretty much stuck!

Any ideas at all what this could be? I'm not brilliant at all with computers, so help would be seriously appreciated! I think I might need a new soundcard, but if so, how would I go about installing it etc?.. Thanks

A:Help with integrated soundcard problem!

Is it possible that little brother changed anything in the BIOS? I ask only that it is possible to disable an on-board card in there.
I suggest you boot into safe mode (F8) on boot and then clear all sound card drivers from the device manager. Then reboot and windows should reinstall the drivers once you provide the motherboard driver CD.
Let us know how you get on.
