HJT Log for my Teen Son's Computer. ARRGG!

Q: HJT Log for my Teen Son's Computer. ARRGG!

OK. I will attach the HJT log for my son's computer. It is running really slow and is constantly running low on disc space. He was using his computer in safe mode until I found out. I removed some of the crap that he had but have no clue what else there may be. Please help. Computer is only a few months old and should not have too many problems. Thanks....

Preferred Solution: HJT Log for my Teen Son's Computer. ARRGG!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I thought it might be the update on the spam software, but I removed it and it is still not sending my emails. The other computer is sending emails from that email address but not mine. Same ISP. What is the deal? I tried what it suggested for the error "Your email message to with the subject was unable to be sent . . ." (1003,9) - which was to increase the server timeouts time. That did not work either, so I tried the other suggestion for this error which was to go to Norton and uncheck the scan outgoing email. This did not work either. Now it gives me a different error saying the connection to the server was interrupted. How can one email account send and not the other when all settings are set up the same???? ARRRGGG!!!

They have all changed to some teen-biz page, and I am continually getting new sites in my favourites list, and all my sites are deleted. I have run Hijack this and CWShredder. i am posting on behalf of a friend who, unfortunately, due to being to occupied with family concerns, is unable to log on and post for herself. therefore, i am trying to find out whatever i can for her. her problem (or at least the most bothersome thereof) is being constantly & frequently bombarded by pop-ups & redirects apparently associated with http://teen-biz.com

she has already downloaded, installed and regularly updated and run spybot, adaware as well as hijack this. unfortunately she is still being tormented by having her children be subjected to the extremely profane visual & text attacks that teen-biz seems to feel compelled to launch at every opportunity. as you can see from the following hijack log, teen-biz was found:

I have an almost 13 year old granddaughter that is very good with logic puzzles and loves the computer and stated an interest in learning how to program games.
While I know my way around the PC, I've never done much in the line of programming. I am considering on buying her for Christmas a beginners guide to C++. My thinking is if she's going to learn she might as well gain some real life experience she can use as opposed to getting her a book on basic or something like that.
My question is two fold to you programmers. Is C++ going to be too difficult for a kid her age? And secondly any other recommendations for a simple C++ book or other suggestions if I'm not on the right path thinking about C++. I did find the MS visual C++ compiler that I downloaded for her and a beginners video from the MS website to supplement the book.

Hello,
I hope you can help me.
My daughter is experiencing problems with her Windows ME machine. I've cleaned off what I could with Spybot and Adaware. I've also run Norton 2002 and the Micro trend on-line virus scan (although I'm not confident that the on-line scan made it to completion).

I'm seeing alot of modem activity, even when nothing else is running on her PC. She's getting icons on her desktop, pop-ups and spyware. Her machine is running very slowly and locks up on a regular basis.

I've run hijackthis and Hijackthis analyzer. The analyzer log is posted below:
Thanks in advance.

It's actually over his budget... until his next paycheck, at which point it'll wipe out his savings account.
So before he blows everything he's earned this summer taking orders at a fast-food joint, thought I'd ask if this will be a great choice. It's a Lenovo Y50 laptop sold on Amazon. He looked at it in a Best Buy store where it costs nearly a hundred dollars more. He's a junior in high school this year, so use will be for any school related study/research rolleyes, facebook, Minecraft and he wants to get Skyrim/Elder Scrolls downloaded once he makes his purchase. I think the salesman said that this could be linked to his PS4 - I'm not a techie at all so I don't know that this is hugely important but my son seemed impressed.

I've read reviews dissing the screen. But we saw it in store and didn't think it looked as... unpleasant as some reviewers thought. The other negative thing I've read is something about having to press two keys on the keyboard to control the sound. Again, I don't think that that sounds like a big deal either.

I guess I'm wondering if there's something better for his money or is this actually dang good for $1250 plus tax from Best Buy? (I know Amazon's price is cheaper but hesitate to have to handle any troubles we ... Read more

Hello, folks.
My teen can't get enough of MySpace, YouTube and associated activities. The more she uses them, the more I have to keep cleaning out Virtumonde, Smitfraude, etc. malware that keep repeatingly placed on my PC. I'm tired of the junk! How can she keep using her favorite sites without junking up the PC with malware? I am running Win XP, antivirus is Panda Internet Security (which I love 10x better than Norton or McAfee) plus I also clean out with Spybot often (probably need to do this more often). What guidelines can I give my teen to help prevent malware? She also IM's a lot, and I'm gonna tell her about not clicking on IM links.

A:Keep Getting Reinfected When My Teen Uses Myspace

Do you use the Firefox browser? That will definitely help. You're more likely to get infected on myspace using Internet Explorer.

Spybot is pretty ineffective these days. It was decent several years ago, but now I'd recommend Malwarebytes or SuperAntiSpyware.

Toshiba 1.8Ghz laptop
4 GB RAM (recent upgrade to memory 2x1GB, machine only sees 3GB, I can't find the cause, any advice most welcome)
160 GB HDD
Windows XP Media Center sp3

I recently 'cleaned' this computer and upgraded the memory. I left it with Eset running and it seemed fine until a 14 yr old nephew spent one session on it. When I heard about it, the browser was hanging without connecting. System control soon degraded to the point where Windows loads but that is it. Task mgr, file explorer, start button, browser... nothing works. Disk activity is evident but 'it' will not release the machine even after sitting off the ethernet wire for a substantial time after loading the OS. Safe mode available but 'it' blocks the run of Malwarebytes (though the app will load into memory). The only scans I could run were from within safe mode. not sure how useful that may be but RSIT outputs attached. I have DDS scan from safe mode I will place under separate post.

Best advice about next step please. Thank you for taking this under advisement.

Hello. I am new here but have been following these forums for a couple of weeks. I think the people [??] who create viruses should be treated like any other terrorist.

I have AVG and today when I opened my e-mail, I noticed a message labeled "Teen poll results" above a couple of other entries. So I used Shift and selected all three so I could delete them all at once. However Delete didn't work.

The AVG [Griswold] screen popped up and said it detected a virus. So I pressed "n" and even enter. Meanwhile, behind the AVG box, there was another box showing a file being downloaded. So I quickly clicked the Close X button for Outlook Express. I hope that cut it off at the pass.

So I have some questions:

1) Is there some way to select and delete something from my inbox without it starting to download?

2) Why didn't AVG stop this thing from down loading?

3) Assuming part of the virus downloaded, how do I find it and get rid of it?

That's enough for now. You guys are great.

Hi

I am a dad who wants to give his rebellious pre-teen daughter some control on her laptop, like update iTunes or install games, but she cannot do such as a Standard User.

I initially setup her laptop with both of us (dad and daughter) as admin users. I wanted to be an admin user to help install updates, backup, and check for viruses, etc... Dad as "Home IT guy".

However, in her rebellious attitude over the last couple of months, she removed me as an admin; so, I had no way for login. Pissed IT dad.

IT dad took her laptop away for a week, demanded her password, created IT dad as admin and changed frustrated daughter into standard user.

All fine. No. Daughter wants to upgrade iTunes (admin login required), install games (admin login required), etc... (admin login required). Non-IT mom does not want to do IT stuff (i.e. "admin login required" stuff).

Is there a way to allow my daughter (degraded to Standard User) to have some admin privileges (to perform upgrades and downloads without "admin login required"), but without having the permissions from removing other administrators (i.e. IT dad)?

In other words, IT parents as Uber-Administrators and User children as Limited-Adminstrators (i.e., cannot remove a Uber-Adminstrator but can upgrade and download software)?

IT Dad wants to know, thx

A:Windows 7 Pro: Parent adminstration control and rebellious pre-teen

Sorry, I dont have an answer for you, but I'm in exactly the same boat. because I have three sons that install programs and updates like your daughter, that required me to intervene on a multiple-times-per-days basis I gave my kids administrative accounts on their own computers.

BIG MISTAKE!!

I use OpenDNS to prevent access to undesirable web stuff, and so I can have some semblence of knowledge of what is going on. But they hack, and they crack and they circumvent every bit of security I add.

Now I am considering setting them to standard users. And that means non-stop whining, negatively charged atmosphere, and daily interventions by me to install, update, remove and configure things on their PCs.

I feel for you. I hope someone here will be able to offer some guidance to us frustrated parents.

Hello,I really need some help! My computer had a virus that made the fake Windows XP antivirus popup appear where they want you to download the bogus antispyware program, and the desktop background changed to blue with a message that read " WARNING! Spyware detected on your computer. Please install an antispyware...." Blah, Blah Blah! And it would act like it was restarting and go to a blue screen, but if I pressed F8 it would go back. So I followed some steps I had read on here from other people, and that part of it is gone. I am now able to change my desktop background. Now the problem is that every time I try to go on to the internet, Google or whatever other search engine I use will come up, but then when you try to go to another site, it just says " Loading, internet browser redirecting." And I get redirected to another site, usally ADT (weird) or another antispyware site which I believe is just part of the virus. Also, the computer will freeze up completely to where I can't do ANYTHING. Even CTRL+ALT+Delete doesn't work. So we end up just unplugging it (I know that is probably REALLY bad!) I downloaded spybot S&D from my other computer and put it on the bad one, and it did find a couple things and I deleted them, but it didn't help. So I got hijackthis from my other computer also and dowloaded it to the messed up one and obtained my log. Hello there,

I have an eight year old Gateway computer. It is just a regular, single home desktop. It has Windows XP Home Edition, 1.25 GB of RAM (originally had 256MB of RAM and I added two sticks of 512MB of RAM). I updated my computer to Service Pack 2 using Microsoft's Windows Update. My internet speed is about 6 - 8 MB's per second (cable).

Here is my problem: When I do not use my computer, it automatically starts to load like crazy. All I hear is the churning inside my PC's tower, but nothing comes up on the screen. After 30 seconds to 1 minute, the churning goes away. Also, when it churns, I see the hour glass next to the arrow on the screen. This happens once in a while, but it is suspicious. My computer hasn't been running like it used to, so I'm concerned if there are any viruses/trojans/malware/spyware deep inside my computer that are hiding from my numerous virus/spyware scans.

Also, when this problem started, I noticed that my Internet Explorer 7 has been scrolling up and down choppy on a lot of websites. Right now, if I scroll up and down this message body where I am typing this message, it will be sluggish. But, if I scroll Tech Support's website, it is not sluggish. I will try to describe my situation as brief and accurate as possible..I recently had my computer infected by a terrible Trojan Virus (Trojan.Agent/Gen-Cryptic)..I had help from someone, to remove the Trojan from my computer..They guided me through certain steps like MBR Check, DDS, Rootkit Unhooker, ComboFix, OTL, etc..After guiding me through all the necessary steps, my computer was declared clean..Unfortunately after the clean, my computer wasn't performing properly..It was extremely slow/sluggish, when opening apps and connecting to the internet..I also had Windows Firewall shutting OFF, from time to time..I was then told at this point, to do a fresh install of Windows XP..Which brings me to my current problem..I've performed a fresh install twice, and for the life of me I cannot figure out why my computer feels like it's still infected..After the first fresh install of Windows XP I ran a scan with Malewarebytes Anti-Malware and it found:

First of all, MalwareBytes is not an anti virus app. Do you have an av installed? If so, have you run a full scan with that? If not, and since you think it's malware related, you should probably post in the Am I Infected forum.

It's possible that it's a virus but I don't know. How can I solve this problem? Because I can't get into the computer to do a system restore. Please help, thank you!

Hi!

I posted this in other tech support forums, nobody seems to be able to help me there. Decided to try out this forum.

All of the info is here: http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f217/computer-randomly-shut-off-now-sound-doesnt-work-1028785.html#post6563153

To sum it up, my laptop randomly shut off one day (as if the battery was removed) and the sound stopped working when I started it back up. Someone said it overheated. The fan was faulty (worked... kinda), so I thought that might have been true, got it replaced. Computer shut off again in the same way about a week and a half or so later, but was only warm to the touch -- it's been much warmer before without shutting off.

Anyways since it shut off the first time, the sound stopped working, and the drivers for it have had yellow flags and the following message: "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

Any attempt to delete and re-install the drivers has been unsuccessful so far.

Any help in solving this issue would be greatly appreciated!

A:Computer Randomly Shut Off, Now Computer Can't Bleep (Sound Doesn't Work)

Initially I had noticed that something was up as it started locking up randomly; ran a scan using Ad-Aware Anniversary Edition and it found the machine to be infected with WIN32.TROJANDOWNLOADER.AGENT. So it cleaned it up and... the machine started acting even crazier. A bunch of application profiles (like for Firefox) became corrupt, dragging files from one folder to another did not work (but copy/pasting them did; what the heck), my graphics drivers went haywire, the system refused to download any files (per some security policy) and then Windows found that the registry was amazingly corrupt. Most of these issues have been addressed in one form or another (turns out a fair number of system DLLs were not properly registered); is this just an instance of the cure being worse than the disease? Or did I not get everything cleaned up?One thing that caught my attention is that file indexing was apparently turned on; I know I disabled that for performance reasons when I first set this machine up.I have since run both Bitdefender Online Scanner and TrendMicro Sysclean and they both came up clean. If you're looking in the attached log there is one file that comes up as gibberish (comes up as 3D??????); that is just a Japanese program where the name got mangled in the scanning program.DDS (Ver_09-03-16.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Duppy at 14:20:30.25 on Thu 04/23/2009Internet Explorer: 7.0.5730.13 BrowserJavaVersion: 1.6.0_13============== Running Processes ============================= Pse... Svchost.exe Extreme Memory Usage Crashes Computer When Computer Idle
I am currently experiencing a problem that started just a few days ago where the svchost.exe process keeps taking up memory on my computer even when the computer is idle and continues to grow to taking up to 99% of memory before it crashes/freezes the computer and it has to be restarted several times a day to clear the memory back down. However sometimes when I restart the computer within an hour or a couple of hours or sometimes less the memory will get exhausted again.

One special note is that since my Windows 7 OS was preinstalled on my HP computer, I do not have access to the original Windows DVD and the DVD drive on my computer is currently broken and is unable to be used.

I downloaded the TSG SysInfo tool and the FRST tool with the following results.

I was able to download the FRST tool and I have the following results, so hopefully this will help someone to be able to help me with this problem it seems to be getting worse as time goes on eating up memory.

Thanks for your help, time and efforts it is appreciated and here is the TSG SysInfo and the following 2 logs from FRST:
Here is the TSG SysInfo

I'm baffled here. I had my network between my new vista machine (\\MAINCOMPUTER) and my xp laptop (\\JIMSLAPTOP) set up perfectly (transfered old files from xp computer to vista without problems) until yesterday when I was trying to add music files to windows media palyer on my xp machine that are stored on my vista machine. It is wireless network with the vista machine connected via ethernet and xp machine wirelessly.

It was working fine at first- searching for and adding all of the files that it should have. I left the room for a bit while the 13,000+ songs were being added and when I came back it was frozen. I canceled out of it and then tried to access the files that were added but it could not find them. I then tried to access the folder through the network and My Network Places crashed. I restarted, tried again... same... crashed.

I can see the xp laptop no problem on my vista network map, can access any of the xp files, and can ping using IP and name both ways- from vista to xp and from xp to vista. XP just won't find \\maincomputer now in My Network Places- error message says: "Workgroup is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Network name is no longer available."

Norton's is running on both machines, but I have both computers on the respective "trust" lists

Again, I had this working fine and this only started happening after the windows media player incident...

If anyone has any suggesti... Read more

My computer is behaving strangely there are no noticed performance changes but if i press "Ctrl + R-Alt" then my computer beeps and wont allow delete to work. I had to take out the L-Alt Key because if i press it my computer turns off and then when i turn it back on (with the power button on the case) its as if it where never turned off, it just goes straight to the login screen. Another strange thing is that if the Ctrl Key is held down for a few seconds the "e -key" gives a ? instead of E and when this "Euro-Mode" is active the arrow keys dont work. This problem is anoying, i can still open task manager through "start -> run -> taskmgr" The computer only beeps when i press ctrl+alt no other 2 keys make my comp beep.I hope someone can help me, I've already tried using avg spybot, Ad-aware and various other proggies but the problem perisists.Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 12:41:04 PM, on 24/05/2009Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files ... Hi Anamarija and welcome to TSF !

Does the problem also happen in safe mode ?

Unplug all your USB devices. Use a PS/2 mouse and keyboard for the time of the troubleshooting.

Go to start => run and type chkdsk c: /R. You'll be prompted to restart the computer. Tell us if it finds any errors on the hard drive. If you couldn't see the scan's results you'll find them in the event viewer under application in the latest winlogon entry (click on the title of the source column to sort them alphabetically).

Did the BSOD or the errors in the eventviewer mention any .exe, .dll or .sys file ?

We'll need the .dmp files that you'll find in c:\windows\minidump, problem is you may not be able to browse your drive to zip and attach them with your computer. Copy them to some floppy or usb drive using the command prompt : start => run => cmd. Type copy c:\windows\minidump\*.dmp x: x being the volume letter that corresponds to your usb or floppy drive. Then with another computer zip them and attach the .zip file to your next post using the manage attachments button.

Double click the errors in the event viewer, click on the third button on the right (this copies the information in the memory) and right-click => paste the complete error message here.

Go to start => run and type devmgmt.msc. See if there are any devices with a red cross, yellow exclamation point or whatever in front of their name. If you find anything related to your webcam then right-click =>... Read more

I've let my family use this computer for awhile, they started to complain it was "acting weird." When I jumped on to see, I noticed it was shutting down by itself and extremely slow. I got the computer to start up and tried to do a couple system restores. I then noticed then that the date/time on the computer was off. Saying some of the restore points were back in 2006, when I didn't even have this computer. After a couple failed attempts, I got the computer to restore. Its not randomly shutting off anymore but is still slower than it should be. I reseted the date and time, but I'm still worried something could be wrong. This computer has had a Root Kit, and a MBR infection before.I've run disk clean up, Spybot, AVG and CC cleaner. Went though steps to clean my computer of a Trojan today. ESET scan came back clear. Then I took the advice and began downloading programs to protect myself when I downloaded COMODO free firewall, it did a scan for Malware and found 5 files that were a threat.

One containing the the words 'combofix' and another 'win32' which initially in my alert from windows security center saying 'Win32.Backdoor.DNM'. I chose to remove these files and my computer and restart for the firewall to install and changes to be made. When my computer rebooted I had a message from the firewall saying 'svchost.exe' is trying to connect to the internet, which was also one of the virus's that were ment to be removed when I ran Combofix.

My other thread was closed as I thought my troubles were over. Help would again be much appreciated.

A:Cleaned my computer with staff help today. Scan still found virus on my computer.

Check your PM inbox. Personally, I don't care for Comodo, and the only firewall I use is my router's hardware firewall and Windows XP's. Too many people don't know how to respond to the notifications from firewalls. I don't care for Comodo's detections, and it's overly intrusive.

If you installed this before you uninstalled ComboFix, that would explain why you were getting some hits from Comodo. It incorrectly sees parts of ComboFix as a threat. Also, there might be some quarantined files left behind if you installed this before uninstalling ComboFix.

Regarding svchost.exe, as long as it's in system32, that's fine

Hello, punkopunx
Welcome to TSF

My name is Billy O'Neal and I will be helping you. (Billy or Bill is fine, if you like.)
Please give me some time to look over your computer's log(s).
Please take note of the following:In the meantime, please refrain from making any changes to your computer.
Also, even if things appear to be running better, there is no guarantee that everything is finished. Please continue to check this forum post in order to ensure we get your system completely clean. We do not want to clean you part-way up, only to have the system re-infect itself. :)
If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing. I would much rather clarify instructions or explain them differently than have something important broken.
Finally, please reply using the button in the lower left hand corner of your screen.
Old topics are closed after 3 days with no reply, and working topics are closed after 5 days. If for any reason you cannot complete instructions within that time, that's fine, just put a post here so that I know you're still here. We get a lot of people who simply leave, and if there is no contact for that amount of time I will have to assume you have "vanished" .

Hey all,

I was unable to get GMER to run the full scan without an error popping up halfway saying that the .exe has stopped working. I tried it twice and lost patience so I will try again later and try to make it work. For now I'm just putting this post up there to at least get something by the end of today hopefully, so I just want to point out first that my GMER log is not included. Sorry about it! If the GMER log is absolutely necessary along with Hijack and DDS logs for you guys to diagnose what is wrong with my computer, do let me know. Also, if you guys could, any advice on how to get GMER working would be appreciated. I was unclear through the instructions if I should uncheck the IAT/EAT box and check the C: drive box (the GMER tool did not warn me about rootkit activity, but I went ahead and unchecked IAT/EAT and checked C: drive anyway, assuming that the drive that is most important to scan would be C: drive).

Had the day from hell with my computer, antivirus stopped working and my computer got infected. On safe mode with networking, I ran malwarebyte a couple times, cleaned most all of it out. When rebooting to windows, computer became super slow, like 5 minutes to open a window, etc. I had to force reboot a few times. But then I started getting a screen that demanded a reboot disk. Only one I have is. a windows vista disc. I had windows 7. It won't let me even get that blue startup screen where I can push f keys.
Can anyone give me some advice, or do I need to just get a new hard drive.

Welcme,
The problem isn't the hard drive, it's that you are still infected.
