Java problems, XP Pro problems, SLOW everything problems...

Q: Java problems, XP Pro problems, SLOW everything problems...

Hi guys

This is my first post in this forum so hello!

Title was difficult to put succinctly so I will describe the problems I'm having.

I recently did a complete re-instal of XP Pro. I wiped all hard drives, installed a new one, physically cleaned inside of PC with air, resat all cards, upgraded to SP3 for first time, installed software slowly and carefully and installed Avira Antivirus, Agnitum Outpost Firewall (disabled Windows Firewall first) and also installed Spybot S&D.

So, I am having various problems that I've never had before:

1. Startup is quite slow - this could be to do with firewall and anti-virus loading up

2. If I have any USB external drives attached and on, the boot will hang

3. My system tray lacks several icons that should be there; volume control, anti-virus

4. Strange things with right-clicking causing system crash - e.g. I grabbed 3 photos off desktop, dropped them onto bin and right-clicked right away to empty bin - system hung and I had to hard crash out and restart PC

5. When I open my new internal second HD, it takes ages to display all the items (a lot of videos) slowly writing out all their dimensions down a list. If I try any right click actions whilst it's doing this, the system hangs

6. Browsers - I use Firefox, have the new v3 installed, I installed latest Java and Flash but have problems with some sites. One relies on Java for its online tutorial I need but all I get is a blank white screen with 'done' in the bottom left corner. I tried watching a video demo on Microsoft's site and it said to install Flash which I already had; the demo just wouldn't play and again sat there idle with 'done' in the corner. Facebook is soooo slow... and as of today, I can't share links, it takes ages, twirls around and around then says, 'done' but nothing has happened.

I searched the forums for similar, and read advice to remove Java and re-install and I got this bad looking message (screen shot included) Any microsft experts know what that might mean?

PS - I haver tried ALL these things with IE and get same problems. I also re-installed Firefox to no avail...

Something is definitely up!

Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Sounds like you got virus or malware. Turn OFF System Restore. Download and install www.malwarebytes.org and run a Full scan. Remove all malware Reboot.

Hey I've been having major problems with my Laptop.
Every ten or so minutes when my McAfee 2010 security suite disables real-time scanning it'll re-enable itself causing a lot of alarming pop-up boxes which is slowing my computer. Not sure whats causing it but it seems like malware.
Next theres this process which starts at windows start-up (DivxUpdate.exe), I don't think this is actually a part of divx. I've read somewhere that it is a form of autorun malware, it consumes 99% of my cpu majorly slowing down my computer, I think I may have similar malware on here that are problematic.
Also my firefox frequently say that there's an unresponsive script which temporarily freezes my whole computer and when I finally manage to get to task manager I have to end the process which seems to be using a regular amount of cpu and memory.
I made a topic exactly 1 month ago but nobody answered so I thought I'd make a new one seeing as the problems are progressing and building up.

Thanks for any help I'm provided with.

Hi,

thanks for taking a look at this I hope you can help.

About a week ago my comp was running fine and I had no problems. I was using Win XP Pro on my Advent 6414 PIII 1.1 GHz laptop and was using AOL to connject to the internet. I had Anti Virus guard working there too and thought things were ok....

I upgraded the AV Guard but halfway through the setup i had to turn the computer off.

When I started it up on Monday, there was a progress bar at the bottom of the screen consisting of really chunky white bars.

The XP screen hung there for ages and when it did finally load, the programs running were prone to freezing. Specific symptoms were the Display Properties panel locking up and then saying there was a WIN32.DLL error (Not Responding) and that it had to shut down. The desktop picture froze and each subsequent time i tried to start the computer it took longer and longer to start. The programs hung for longer and froze earlier and it got to the point where I lost everything. I had to reformat the entire hard drive and re-install XP.

Surely this would have cured the problems despite wiping out my extensive and dare I say excellent music collection..aaaarrghhhh!!
Alas it did not. i have re-installed XP only to find similar re-occurrences of the same problems...programs slow to load, Explorer locks up (the start menu is the main one) and now the pictures that I loaded for my desktop are being halved each time i start up.

I learned my lesson and now have Nor... Read more

A:XP Problems: Slow to load, DLL broken, freezes, modem problems the list goes on..

How much do you know about installing XP?
And, what options did you select during the process?

(No, it's not a simple, linear, process.)
First of all, if you wipe the drive you should do it properly. That is, you get a copy of the Disk Manager software from your hard drive's manufactuer and you use THAT to wipe the Hard Drive from a boot disk. Low-level format the drive, which means you write zeros to the entire drive including the boot sector. That gives you a truely blank drive.

Then when you do the XP install, windows thinks the drive is "Virgin" and does a complete partition and format. No information is retained.

If you wanted to be faste (but lazy) about it, you could just delet the partitions on the drive and then make new partitions, and then install Windows, but let's be sure we've done everytyhing we can to start with a blank slate, shall we?

But you're not done yet: You need to get the device drivers from your PC mfg's website. Otherwise, all the drivers that XP doesn't have aren't there, and your hardware is in "Default" mode (if at all).

NOTE: Before you start to do any of this, check with your OEM to see if they have any special "Non-DOS" partitions on your model of laptop. If they do, all this is for naught: You'll have to get them to put those partitions back on your machine before you begin re-installing.

Compaq did this a few years back to a number of their models, and it was a huge headache to ITs everywhere... Read more

Hi,
This is my first post here, so I hope that I follow all of the rules. And thanks in advance for any help. My computer has been running slow for a while, and I think one of my kids might have gone to a website that allowed some malware in. My OS is Windows XP SP3. I have noticed a few things, 1. Had a problem with Adobe acrobat reader, it wouldn't update for some reason, and couldn't open PDF files for a while, after uninstalling and reinstalling several times, I think it is now working. Also noticed more recently when working in MS Word 03 every once in a while it won't let me save files. Now I am noticing that when I have Internet Explorer open for a while, IE tries to pop open a new window, to which the IP address is blocked by K9 web protection 91.212.226.6 is the IP. After googling this IP address, I found a few posts leading me to think there might be a trojan kicking around on my pc. I have run MBAM and Hijackthis in an attempt to find the culprit, but MBAM comes up clean, and I can't find it on Hijackthis. Any help woould be appreciated.
Thanks!

I bought an eMachines laptop (I know off brand) but it was on Black Friday for $395. In addition, I bought an external hard drive. When I plugged the external hard drive into my laptop; the harddrive downloaded a backup software called Memeo. This backup software would pop up everytime I downloaded something or wanted to uninstall or open a file. So I eventually uninstalled the backup software (MEMEO) and my computer began to run EXTREMELY sluggish and slow. 1. I ran a Nortan scan believing that it would fix my computer situation. Hi, about 2 days ago I turned on my pc and many weird things started happening...
first it took a lot of time for the explorer.exe to load, so the desktop or taskbar didn't appear until after maybe 10-15 minutes. Then, the taskbar looked really weird, it seemed like it had been cut horizontally, so you couldn't get to see the whole lower part of the taskbar (and it wasn't the screen size config... since I tried changing that and it didn't work). I thought it might be some kind of virus, so I opened Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and I got the following message:

Then also I noticed I can't paste anything anywhere... or drag things, so I can't copy paste things or cut-paste things... then since yesterday I no longer have a taskbar... and I also can't use the search function (not even when I go into My PC and click on the search icon... a frame appears on the left, just as it should, but it just stays blue)
Also, when I go into taskmanager, and go to processes the Username under all processes is blank (except for one: Inactive process... under SYSTEM) when normally many of them were under Administrator and others.

Hi This is my first time posting, and I have a lot of things causing problems with my computer, but to start off, here are my specs.

Windows 10 Pro
Intel Core i7-4770s CPU @ 3.10GHz
8 Gb Ram Corsaire Vengence 4x2
64 Bit
AMD Radeon HD 7700 GDDR5 1Gb (two of them w/ crossfire)

z87-g45 Gaming Motherboard
Case: r5 Gaming Full size case
Power Supply: Corsair AX860
Fans: Rosewill Hyper Silence CPU fan, 2 stock front fans, 1 stock in back

So, to start off, I built this computer myself 2 years ago, and it has been running steadily without too many problems along the way, but earlier last year it began to have some much bigger problems.

Issue 1. Monitor Issues
I say this is a monitor issue, but i really doubt it has anything to do with the monitors them selves. What is happening every once in a while (about 3 times a week) the screens of my monitors will cut to black (it doesn't matter what I'm doing) and stay black for a few seconds before revealing the task bar at the bottom of the screen, and then the rest of my desktop slowly reveals itself. I've tried updating my video card drivers, but that hasn't helped.

Issue 2. Keyboard and Mouse Become unresponsive (System isn't frozen however)
Sometimes if I leave my pc idling in the lock screen, the keyboard will stop working, and when I come back, I can't log in. I can tell my computer is not frozen because the slideshow in the lock screen keeps moving and I can move my mouse (bu... Read more

Hi. My PC has WinXP SP2 and I have a problem with webpages not displaying properly in IE6. It seems that any site with the ending .aspx won't load at all, i just get a blank page with no error messages or anything to tell me what the problem is.
The view source tells me that javascript is disabled - but its not!
Also, parts of webpages written in Javascript won't display in IE6 even though all the right boxes are checked in Internet Options where Active Scripting and Java are enabled.
Java is enabled in Java Control Panel too.
If i go to Myspace for example, in the area of the page where the music player should be it tells me that either i have an old version of Flash Player installed (i don't, i have the latest version) or javascript is turned off (yet according to the IE6 settings menu, its enabled).
What is causing the machine to override its own settings? I have the latest version of JRE (v1.6 update 5) and windows is fully updated too.

Strangely enough though, i can view these pages perfectly in Opera browser and all the java bits and pieces work just fine. I can play a java game online using opera but i can't play a java game on my desktop because it won't load at all. Does anyone know why this is?

Another issue is that I have Mcafee Security Center which i want to uninstall as its out-of-date, but i can't because this won't display either, all i get is the Mcafee window launching ok but showing a blank screen, again with no error messages.... Read more

Hi.
I have recently encountered a problem whenever I view a page that uses Java. I am using IE 5. Whenever Java appears on the page, the applet appears as a grey box (similar to an applet that is still loading) but when I move my cursor over the applet, I get an error message that begins with 'Unsatisfied Link Error' in the information box, at the bottom of IE 5. I cannot read the rest of the error message, as it goes beyond the visible area of the box. I have already tried downloading, and installing an updated 'msjava.dll' file, but it has had no effect. I would appreciate it if someone could shed a little light on this problem. Any info / help would be great

Thanks

Java and Javascript aren't the same thing. Usually Javascript errors come up on websites due to poorly wriiten code on the website, usually ads. I don't know if there's anything that completely solves the problem short of contacting and notifying the website.

Hi!

I have 2 problems. I hope someone can help me.

1. First, I am running Windows Vista and Internet Explorer 7. I also use Firefox 2.0.0.11.

I have Java SE Runtime Environment 6, but when I try to download Update 3, this is the message I receive on both IE and Firefox:

"This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it,
Or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package."

*****
2. Second, this is my problem when I try to play Text Twist on Yahoo Games: On IE, I get a message stating that the Runtime has requested that the program terminate it in an unusual way. Then IE closes.
On Firefox, the game simply never loads.

According to Yahoo Games, Text Twist is not fully certified for Vista. However, when I first got my computer with Windows Vista, I was able to play this game. I don't know what's changed to cause this error to happen.

If any one can help me, I will appreciate it very much.
Thank you,
Joy

Hi,
1) Try creating a new user and then check
2) If it works we need to transfer your important data to the PUBLIC folder and deleted your account after we have got your important documents, music, etc to the new user.

I have Java JRE, both 64 & 32 bit, installed on my new computer which has Windows 7. They both show up in the programmes list. But I cannot now use my internet banking, using Java, as the bank says Java not installed. I first encountered the problem when trying to use OpenOffice. I then uninstalled & re-installed both Javas, now can't get to my bank. Anyone got a solution?

A:Java problems

Banking websites don't usually require Java, but they do require that "JavaScript" is enabled in your web-browser, and this is entirely unrelated to Java despite the similar name. Instructions for all the popular web-browsers are here: http://www.enable-javascript.com/

I have a problem with Java; this is preventing me from playing a game called Minecraft as well as other java related programs.

The problem i have is called "Java error 1723" the full error message is as follows:
Error 1723. There is a problem with this windows installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run.

This error message occurs whenever i try to install and or uninstall Java from my computer.

I have looked on the Java website and a variety of forums and they all say you must unistall Java and then install both windows installer and Java; however i cannot follow these steps as whenever I try to uninstall Java the error comes up.

Another step is to re-download windows installer but all the links provided say they don't coincide with my operating system.

I have tried these automated fix programs but they have done nothing to help the problem.

Please someone help me, this is driving me crazy as i cannot do alot without it.

I wonder if anyone can help with a strange problem i'm having with Java on my LAN.

There are two machines on the network, An eMachines 3220 - Celeron 2.8ghz - 80gb HD - 512mb ram - Intel ixtreme graphs - onboard 5.1 sound - Win XP Home - This is the server. The other machine i built myself: PIII 800 - 2x 10gb HDs - 350mb ram - Radeon 9000 series 128mb graphs - Sounblaster 128 sound - Win ME

The problem is on the PIII machine. I play Runescape a lot and when i was using this comp as a standalone system it worked fine, but since i started using it through the network things have gone belly up I'm using an aol connection (AOL Silver, although i have 1mb bandwith for some reason best known to AOL. Not complaining tho... lol). I'm using Net Proxy server software on the server.

What i don't understand is; some Java stuff works fine. For example; For those familiar with Runescape, the world map downloads without a hitch. In fact, it downloads quicker now than before But Java seems unable to boot the game. I also use 321 chat sites occaisionally and although they do work, adverts on the site cause problems with the page layout resulting in me having to minimize the window, then expanding it again to fix the problem. Not an ideal state of affairs.

I've tried fiddling with different flavours of Java, even tried the Windows virtual machine without success.

I've posted a Hijack This log below for anyone in the know to study.

There is only 1.3 gigs for C drive and the D drive is for all of my data. Im almost 3/4 of the way full on the C drive. Any help would be greatly appreciated !!

I'm having problems with programs that use java where the window will appear, but actual graphics are not displayed. Although I can't see the graphics, I can still click on links if I know where they are. It seems like the java is working, but there is maybe a conflict. I have tried all of the obvious things such as completely uninstalling java, and re-downloading from various locations. I have also downloaded different versions of java with no luck. Sometimes by minimizing and maximizing numerous times some of the graphics will eventually appear.

This really is a big problem for me as a lot of my programs use java, and I also have problems with some websites that use java.

Any help would be appreciated. My graphics card is 'ATi mobility Radeon 9600'

ok so I've got this Java Application called GametableDnD that iv'e been useing to play Dungeons and Dragons online wiht my sister and some freinds for about a year now. Just recently I've moved over from a computer running on vista to my new computer that runs on 64 bit windows 7 home primium and I haven't been able to get the application to run.

I thought maybe I downloaded the wrong java so Iv'e tried 32 bit java, 64 bit java, and both on the same computer. the 32 bit doesn't work at all and the 64 bit jave gives me a message saying it can't find the main class when ever I try to runt h aplication. But it has to have a main class, because it works just fine for every one else and iv'e tried reinstalling both java and the application multiple times.

I'm bafflled, computer science and electrical engineering majors I know are baffled, and best buy's geek squad was useless, so I thought I'd come here and ask for advice before paying someone to fix it for me. I'm Pre-med and don't have much time to socialize so this DnD game is very important to me, if someone can help me solve this problem I'll be extremely grateful.

Hello, I have been placing online orders with a company for a few months now and all of a sudden today when i select credit card payment the wesite displays the following message;

Sorry, you cannot place your order with a credit card because either
Your browser cannot run Java OR...
You have Java switched off
Either go back a page and order using a different payment method, or enable Java or use a browser that supports Java. If you are running Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer, you just need to enable Java:
First check the type of browser that you have: click "Help" on the menu and then "About"

If you have Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 or higher on Windows 95 or NT 4.0, you can enable Java:
3.X
go to the View menu
select Options...
click the Security tab
click Enable Java programs
Okay button
add this site to your Favorites list
close Internet Explorer, and then open Internet Explorer again
return to this site (on the Favorites list)
4.X
go to the View menu
select Internet Options...
click the Security tab
select any of the standard security levels
press OK
press the Refresh button
If you do not have either of these, you can download either one of them for free.
Netscape Navigator
Internet Explorer

I made the changes the site suggests but the site still wont let me make my purchase?

I cant figure out what the problem may be?? How else can i test if Java is enabled??
