HP pavilion dv7 vista/windows7 recovery

Q: HP pavilion dv7 vista/windows7 recovery

Hey guys,

I'd like to sell my laptop but i first want to restore the laptop to erase all my stuff.

My laptop is a HP pavilion dv7 2040eb, originaly bought with Vista on it together with a code which gave me the opportunity to upgrade to Windows7 with a reduction in price. So i have W7 running at this moment.

When I open up the 'Recovery Manager' of HP it tells me that it's meant for Windows Vista and that there is a slight chance that certain apps and drivers won't work no more... (so i didn't go on with the recovery)

Also I made a set of Recovery Disks whit the 'Recovery Manager' while i was running Windows7. But now i don't know if my computer burned Windows7 on the disks or Vista :s

I'm just worried because the factory setting was Vista, but i replaced it with Windows7 and I'm not smart enough to see which software i burned on the disk

I realy want to put W7 back on it because it's much better than Vista...

Hope you guys can help me!!
Greetings and thanks in advance!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have a question about this.

Right now I will upgrade my Vista laptop to Windows 7 . I already did it before with the RC and worked great.

Anyways there are certain functions on my laptop I use . So that's why I didnt do a clean install. But if there is any problem and I need to reinstall windows. I will have to install Vista first . Till SP1 is the best I believe and then again Windows 7 .
A big hassle if you ask me?

Is there a way to make a bootable DVD or something of my laptop once I upgraded to windows 7 and I take kind of a snapshot of that moment.
or something else'

Like when i got my laptop I had to make 2 DVD's so I could reinstall windows. Was hoping I could do the same with Windows7 somehow.

Another thing is. I have an English Windows Vista on a machine but will get a Dutch windows 7 upgrade. I don't think I can upgrade from a English to Dutch right? Although the upgrade is Ultimate?

I also can install an English version of Ultimate and use the key from the Dutch ultimate? or is the key from the box really only for the DVD that's in the box ?

thank you for your answers.

You choose your language upon installation,i did anyway.
And microsoft have language updates also.

I think as long as the key is for "ultimate" it will work.

You should be able to find the drivers at the HP site.
Look for drivers and downloads section.
Enter the service tag number and it should take you to the right place.
Be sure to choose W7 as the operating system.

Hi: You need these drivers... ethernet controller: This package provides the Realtek Local Area Network (LAN) Driver that enables the Realtek Network Interface Card (NIC) Chip in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. File name: sp55083.exe pci device: This package contains the driver that enables the Realtek Card Reader in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. The card reader enables users to read from or write to supported removable storage cards, which are typically used in digital cameras, digital music players, and cellular phones. File name: sp55085.exe smbus controller: I have zipped up and attached the driver you need for that below. Download and unzip the file to its folder.  Do not do anything with the files in the folder. Go to the device manager, and click on the smbus controller needing drivers. Click on the driver tab, click on update driver. Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder you unzipped. Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and the driver should install. Then restart the PC.

Hello, Ive downgraded my notebook from W10 to W7 recently. And I have little problem. Everytime I wake up my notebook from sleeping mode, blue screen of death occurs. During recovery - error message: "system image created using efi and this computer is using bios"

My efi bios lists:
windows boot manager with efi label
dvd ram without efi label
dvd ram with label in addition to above when win7 install dvd inserted
hdd without efi label (ntfs)

Thinking it's a boot sequence problem I tried all possible combinations as well as the probable. In some cases I get missing bootmgr of course from the HDD and the familiar "this version of windows is incompatible with the system......." The most successful attempt and the error msg "image created using efi and this uses bios" resulted from any combination which had the non efi dvd ram before the hdd

This follows a virgin install of Win7/64pro and a successful backup to an expansion drive. The original win7 drive was replaced with an identical but empty target drive.

I will try to be as precise as possible and give as much info as I can, but I'm not sure what info is inconsequential and what isn't at this point. But, here goes...

For 2 weeks I have tried to outsmart whoever it is that has had complete remote access to my laptop but changing as many admin permissions and incoming/outgoing connections that I could find to keep them out.

A couple of days ago, I did a system restore to factory settings, thinking this would do it. It didn't; he was still there. He locked me out of all admin tools yesterday.

I have a system recovery disc made about a year ago, and put that in my CD drive tonight, thinking I could completely reformat the drive and wipe him out. However, at start-up, I pushed F2 and came up with a screen that said something about running the disc from E drive (I apologize for not be able to give you specific language but I never thought it would get this far with no progress). However, under the line showing the drive it was booting from, there was another line that started "DETECTHAL /REDIRECT " then went on to say something about "redirect name" and redirect path", none of which sounded legit to me. And considering that this intruder had created so many other fake error/info msgs already, I didn't want to take the chance of this being something else that he had stuck in there.

I backed out of that reboot and restarted. I've subequently tried to restart over a dozen times from the CD, bu... Read more

Hi--My Pavilion G6 stopped working and the usual Windows7 recover options didn't work, so I sent away for a Windows 7 USB stick recovery kit from HP.  Following the included instructions, the notebook boots up off of the recovery stick, and gets part way through the recovery process but then displays this error: "Windows cannot find 'F:\System.sav\Util\Rstone.exe' Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again." This was an automated process, so there could not have been a typing error. I tried the process several times, but can't get past this point.  Does anyone have any advice on how to proceed? Thanks!

I've had some problems with my computer and am consdering wiping out my hard drive and reinstalling Windows 7. The problem is: I don't have a windows cd to boot it from. My friend doesn't have one either, but he has his recovery disk. We both have Sager laptops but differing models. I was wondering if I could use his recovery disk just to reinstall windows using the microsoft product key under my laptop. Will doing this just give me the drivers that are compatible with his hardware and I can just remove them? I've downloaded my hardware drivers onto an external hard drive and was wondering if i could just load up a clean win7 os that way.
Thanks for your time!

A:reinstall windows7 using friend's recovery disk

Well...you need to understand just what recovery disks are.
They may rely on files which are on a hidden partition on the system's hard drive which was originally installed...they may not.
If the system is not the exact same model...using recovery dsiks from a different system is just an invitation to more frustration.  If you look at those retailers selling "recovery disks", you will see that they definitely are system specific...there is no general reovery disks which can be applied to different system models.
I also imagine that using someone else's disks...will result in the Windows license applicable to the disks used on another system...will show up on that list which Microsoft maintains for known compromised license keys.

A year ago is a very long time. Most likely Windows has long since over written that area of the disk to a point that anything that you would get would be very incomplete and unuseable.

Yesterday morning when I turned on my laptop, I got the "BOOTMGR missing error". My laptop was working with no problems till the night before, so I don't know what happened. Anyway, I tried everything recommend on this forum and elsewhere to fix the problem. But nothing seems to work.

Since I don't have any important stuff on the laptop, I don't mind reinstalling Windows 7 if that would solve the issue. But I don't have a windows 7 installation CD. I have a Samsung R540 which came pre-installed with Windows 7. I went to the Microsoft recovery centre and tried to validate my windows product key but it is not validating.. Is this because my Windows is pre-installed?

Also from the command prompt I can see that I have a recovery partition. When I start the laptop, it says "press F2 for setup and F4 for recovery." But while F2 takes me to the BIOS screen, F4 doesn't do anything. While searching online, someone suggested that the recovery partition must be made active. So I went to command prompt and made it active and tried again. But it has made no difference.

So now I don't what else to do.. I don't really care about any data. I just want the laptop to work.. Is there no hope for me?? I would really appreciate any help
Thanks in advance

the recovery image, but after inserting the serial number, the web-system shows me the message:

For your device no recovery medium can be ordered, because it comes either not from the region of Toshiba Europe, or it is too old for this service

thanks in advance

A:Satellite A660 Windows7 home recovery data needed

The notebook belongs definitely to European series so the only plausible reason why you cannot order the recovery disk is: notebook is too old.
In such case you can install only a clean Windows 7 system. The essential drivers are available on the Toshiba EU driver page and could be installed after the system installation.

My aim is to have a Windows 7 bootable cd as Microsoft is going to kill Windows XP on April 2014.

I have Vaio laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit with 4 recovery discs that I created but I haven't used it so far as Vaio never gave any trouble.

Is it illegal or possible to create Windows 7 cd from my Vaio laptop Recovery Discs so that I can use on my another desktop that has Windows XP SP3 as Windows XP era ends on April 2014 ?

A:Is it illegal or possible to create a bootable Windows7 cd from Vaio Recovery Discs ?

The recovery disk is only for that one Vaio laptop only. It won't work on any other machine as contains the operating system, drivers for that machine and activation key. It not only wouldn't work but would also be illegal. Why are you so concerned about XP coming to an end? It doesn't mean XP is going stoping working. It's just the end to support. Get a backup program and do I regular backup so you can get it back up and running should something should happen.

Last yeat I was able to get WLM working just fine in Windows 7 (with a bit of help here) What I ended up with was a Windows Live Mail Page holding three accounts including Gmail. I acess Hotmail from a seperate Icon on the destop. All is good.

I am trying to mirror this in Vista home. The Hotmail account came right up as I signed in with my Live user/password. What I am having trouble with is setting up the second page holding my three main accounts. I tried getting in by using Sign In, but it reverts back to the hotmail page (co110.co110.mail.live.com/default.aspx?wa=wsignin1.0

I thought that it would be simple, but not for me at this point. Pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated. should have better luck in here as windows 7 is my referrence!!!

A:WLM In Windows7 / Vista

Just to be clear, are you using the WLM program that is part of the downloadable suite called "Windows Live Essentials" or are you going to the Hotmail website via your web browser? In either case it is possible to set up multiple accounts from different email service providers. The server access information for each account should be the same no matter how it is accessed.

You may or may not know, Microsoft announced shortly after the release of Vista that they're working on a new OS they codenamed "Windows7".

What is stupid, is that it always takes so long for them to make a new OS, the minimum amount of time being 3 years... it took them 5 years to make Vista after XP was made. And in that 5 years, they couldn't even make it "good", what with all the problems everyone reports about Vista.

So how good do you think Windows7 will be? Better than Vista? Better than XP? Or another failure like Vista is.

A:Do you think Windows7 will be any better than Vista?

I'm new to much of this, so bear with me. Will a Vista 64 bit driver run in Windows7 ? I have purchased a CCD astronomical camera, which I will receive in January 2010. The seller says that they have people using the camera in Windows7, using a Vista 64 bit driver. I upgraded from Windows7 home edition to professional. I used the Microsoft test and my cpu can not run in XP mode. Can anyone tell me if this driver would work with Windows7. Your advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

A:Vista 64bit on Windows7

Yes, a 64-bit Vista driver should work just fine in Windows 7 64-bit.

Hi Everyone...

I'm looking at Upgrading to Windows 7 from Vista and wondered if anyone had any tips/advice for doing this... There seems to be a few different versions of windows 7, which one would people recommend.. (currently looking at Windows7 ultimate 32 bit edition??) We only use the PC for Browsing the web and Excel most of the time, No gaming... Although I am fairly computer literate I have never actually installed a complete new operating system so any advice on doing this and the pitfalls to avoid etc would be very much appreciated.

A:Upgrade from Vista to Windows7

You have to decide which version is right for you: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/compare

As for installation, first make sure your system supports W7 (http://windows.microsoft.com/upgradeadvisor)

If you do install W7, boot to the W7 dvd, delete and recreate your system partition, format, and install. Then install all drivers, starting with the chipset driver. Then install a GOOD anti virus app. Then go to Windows Update and install all software updates (do not use Windows Update for hardware or driver updates - those should only be obtained from the websites of the various hw manufacturers).

I encountered the following problems after installing windows7 upgrade.
After completing the windows 7 installation the media player 12 is NOT installed (and I can't find it anywhere on my computer. Reinstalling windows 7 several times doesn't help).

Furthermore, I can't install live products such as moviemaker. After installing the error wmvcore.dll is missing pops up. I've tried the following advise, but no succes.... Wmvcore.dll - Wmvcore.dll Not Found Error - Missing Wmvcore.dll - Fix Wmvcore.dll

All other functions seem to be working fine. I had no such problems before on Vista, I have uptodate antivirus software. I assume the problems mentioned above are interrelated. Any advise??

Many thanks

A:No mediaplayer after upgrade from vista to windows7

Start over, this time do a clean install. Use windows easy transfer, to transfer your email, favorites etc. Now, begin as you did the previsous time. This time choose custom intall. When asked for your product key, do not give it. When completedr use easy transfer to get back your settings etc. then install all of your programs. When you are happy with what you have activate and make a system image.

It sounds like you did a upgrade which never works out entirely correct, you should have done a clean or custom install.

Anyone know of a free Resource Monitor for Vista that's similar to the one in Windows Seven Task Manager? I like that color bar for memory usage. The display conveys the info instantly.

Vista TM when you open Resource Monitor you have to close TM or it stays on top blocking the view. Plus a skinny green line makes it hard to see what's goin' on.

Miles the only software that I am familiar is process explorer. Not quite the same thing, however

Hi all I have just joined this forum today because I have a couple of questions about installing Win7. My Gateway desktop has a 250gb harddrive which has Windows Vista SP1 installed on a 70gb C;/(active/boot) partition and a 10gbD/recovery partition and the rest of the drive is Unallocated- and this is where I intend to install Win7. However I don't want it to use all of the unallocated space, so during setup will I be able to limit how much space Win7 can use?
My computer shows these drives: Windows Vista (C
Local Disk(recovery) (D
DVD drive (E
Compact Flash (G

When I install Win7 how will my drive nomenclature change other than it will obviously grow by at least one letter? Can someone on here predict what drive letter Win7 will assign itself and how the others will change?
As i understand it when Win7 installs it replaces Vistas bootloader with it's own and adds Vista to it so one can then ... Read more

Hello, I have a Dell Vostro 1510 which I received with Windows Vista pre-installed. Now because of support issues I want to upgrade to Windows 7. I want to download Windows 7 straight onto the Laptop and not onto a DVD or USB stick. I'm not confident that I can do this without creating any problems. My question is , if I manage to download Windows 7 will it completely overwrite Windows Vista or will I end up with Windows 7 and Windows Vista still taking up memory space ?
