I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there pals.

I've installed AirPort Extreme on my Windows 7 PC. No problem with the installation. However, when I tried to start the application it stated that it "requires Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or later". I thought there might be compatibility problems, so I uninstalled and reinstalled with XP SP2 compatibility settings. I still get the same response that "Airport Utility requires bla bla".
Could you help?

I have an Apple AirPort Extreme router connected to my Windows 7 laptop. It also connects all sorts of other devices all of which are working great.

The router has been working fine, except now it does not find my hidden network. I have to connect through my guest network. When I search for the hidden network, I can find it but it won't connect even though I know the password entered is correct.

I went into my AirPort Utility to change the settings that now says it "can't find any AirPort Utility devices. Make sure is in range and scan again. " The router is right next to my laptop so that is not an issue.

Why can it not find my devices?

I really would like to do a factory reset and change the whole network name and password and not make the network hidden this time.

Is that as easy as it sounds?

I can't find the original CD that came with the extreme but already have the AirPort Utility installed on my laptop, so it should just pick up the new installation - right???

Happy Holidays!

I'm trying to hardwire a new desktop system running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit to my ancient Microsoft MN-500 wireless base station router, and I'm getting an unstable, intermittent connection. I have a Windows XP laptop that is connected wirelessly to the router with no issues, and the previous XP desktop that was hardwired to the router had no issues either. I removed the anti-virus (Norton) completely to rule that out. The connection is fine for about a minute or two, then all Internet I/O will stop (and will eventually come back several minutes later). Any thoughts? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi, just bought the microsoft 802.11 g router MN-700. I installed and have my base running ok on my desktop pc (win98se) with file sharing enabled. I have a new HP laptop zx5060 with a Broadcom 54g 802.11g in it. I can't seem to get it to connect with the base. I don't know what settings I should use for its tcp/ip. I put in the same IP address, subnet mask and gateway numbers from the base unit, but that didn't work, I tried auto obtain address, that also didn't work. (winXP) I must be missing something, in the properties it says the adapter is working properly. Any help appreciated!

I use cable internet. I have two computers. I set up a home network using Microsoft Base Station so that both computers can access internet at the same time.

During the process of setting up Microsoft Base Station, the software asks me if I would like to share all files on the network. I don't know if this means just share files with my other computer or with all the computers on cable network?

If I choose Yes to share all files, is it safe? Will my zone alarm still be able to keep hackers out?

I have a question about the product mentioned in the title. I understand it lets you stream video from the station to your computer with included software. It has composite, s-video, and component inputs. Does that mean that I can stream the HD video signal from any HD source supporting Component (my Xbox 360) and record it? I'd considered getting a new capture card so I could record with better quality than my Pinnacle 700-usb plus. I don't see why I wouldn't be able to do it this way, but I can't find any detailed info on it, so can someone here let me know please? Thank you.

I've had my MN-500 Base Station since 2003 operating flawlessly with our household's various computers using XP operating systems. Since upgrading to Vista on most of them I find that Vista won't allow me to update my MN-500's firmware (which is currently operating on an outdated 2003 update level).

The problem began when I replaced our base XP home computer with an entirely new Vista computer. The old XP was up-to-date (circa 2007) with the MN-500 updates. The new Vista had the old MN-500 installation disc (circa 2003) setup info downloaded but does not have any apparent compatibility which would allow for firmware updates to the present.

As a result, since going with Vista the MN-500's signal has been intermittent with my laptop. I figured that when our base XP computer was replaced with a Vista model all our MN-500 updates went with the old hard drive. Thus, the need to catch up with all the old firmware upgrades and perhaps solve the connectivity issue.

Is Microsoft orphaning the MN-500? Can someone tell me how to upgrade my MN-500's firmware on a Vista O/S?

I have had this problem previously but can't remember how to fix it. Can anyone help???
My OS is Windows XP.

A:Internet connection problem with base station connected

Well, I'd start by resetting the MN-500 to factory defaults:
To restore the base station to factory default settings

1. Use a pointed object to press and hold the Reset button on the back of the base station.
2. When the Power light on the front begins to blink green and orange, release the Reset button.
The Power light first turns solid orange. When it turns solid green, the restoration is complete. This process takes about a minute.Click to expand...

If you don't have the manuals for the box, here's the download page: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/902461

Obviously, after resetting it to factory defaults, you'll have to do any configuration of the wireless that you need, like setting up encryption, etc.

My X1 Extreme is experiencing an issue when re-connecting to a thunderbolt docking station (the one with two power adapters - 65W and 230W). I am unsure if this is a patch/firmware related issue, but my system is fully updated (Windows 1903) if that help. The problem only becomes apparent when the system is re-connected to the docking station. When the system is first booted, no problem at all, when undocked, also no problem. The problem comes on when I reconnect to the dock. Everything starts to lag to the point where even moving around an empty Notepad window is very choppy. The cursor, and input (typing) lags, opening and closing windows, etc. The system becomes so laggy that each time I reconnect to the docking station, I need to reboot to get back into a usable state. Does anyone experience a similar issue? Any idea how to resolve the problem?  I  appreciate any input.

Community: we just recently purchased a brand new Thinkpad X1 Extreme laptop and Thunderbolt 3 Workstation Dock. The Laptop is awesome but unfortunately we're on our second dicking station and wondering what we're doing wrong--or if we have a defect.  The docking station came with a 230W and 65W AC power cord, and the dock has both a 230W/170W port and 135W/65W power port. When the 230W cord is plugged into the 230W port, the dock doesn't turn on (nothing plugged in). When the 65W cord is plugged into the 135W/65W port, it lights up but no network when a laptop is plugged in or charge. The only way I get a light on the station is to plug the 230W cord into the 135W/65W port, and then when a laptop is plugged in I get network and charge. We contacted Lenovo and they sent a replacement as they admitted it was not working as it should. The second one also exhibits the exact same behavior and we are at a loss and ready to return for a refund.  I also don't want to plug a 230W power brick into a 135W/65W port for fear of overheating. Anyone else experience this or have any ideas, we'd like to hear them.  Thanks.

Why do you want to do port based VLANs? You do realize doing it this way is not the same as 802.1Q VLAN tagging. The port based VLANs you set up on that switch will not propagate to other switches.

I have a Toshiba Tecra M11-17V laptop, which I frequently use with the docking station that came with it.
There is a DB9 serial port on the back of the docking station but I do not know what COM Port it is.

I am using Windows 7.

In Device Manager, COM9 - COM22 are identified as BT Port (bluetooth). COM7 - COM8 are RIM Virtual Serial Port v2, COM17 is Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port and COM18 is USB-Serial CH340.

I figured that COM17 or COM18 were the most likely candidates, but have not been able to get it to respond using either of them.

I am connecting a Psion 5 (Comms app) to it, and have set the ports and the Psion to 19200 baud, 8bits, 1 stop bit, no parity.

The COM ports available in device manager are ?virtual com ports?
There is no connection between an virtual com port and serial port.

I am trying to build the following setup:
1) Asus laptop (TUF gaming series FX504 with 1 hdmi port), Windows 10
1) 2 or 3 high resolution external monitors connected to laptop via a docking station
3) Multiple peripherals like keyboard, mouse, speakers etc.

I did a lot of research about docking stations to buy but I can't seem to find the one that I need. The things that I would like my docking stations to support are:
1) 2 or 3 external monitors
2) many usb ports
3) high performance

I am also not sure about the performance between docking stations that connect to the laptop via USB vs docking stations that connect directly to laptop ports, is there a performance difference? Am I confusing the port replicator with the docking station here?

I am also confused about the hdmi, vga and other graphical ports. My laptop has only 1 hdmi port so what's the appropriate docking station to buy and can I for example connect external monitors with graphical ports other than hdmi to the docking station and then connect the docking station to the laptop's hdmi or usb if it's a docking station that connects to the laptop via usb?

I would also like to just use the external monitors and not use the laptop display. Some people on the forums say that this can be done by changing the power settings - set "Choose what closing the lid does" to not sleep or shut down the laptop while the lid is closed and instead leave it running. Is this correct?

I have a strange issue with one of my X1 Extreme's USB-A ports (specifically, port 2, the one closest to me while sitting at the computer).  A single peripheral disconnects and reconnects occassionally when plugged into this port (I hear the notification sound of a device disconnecting then reconnecting). The peripheral is a wireless dongle for the Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Keyboard and Mouse combo. This happens every several minutes, and only occurs for a few seconds, but during that time, I lose keystrokes and mouse movements, so it's a problem. The weird thing is no other peripheral I've tested on port two has this problem (mostly wired mice and keyboards) -- only the wireless dongle.  The other weird thing is that if I plug the dongle into port 1 (the USB-A port toward the back of the computer), I don't have this issue. This is what makes me think it may be a problem with the X1 Extreme's port, and not a problem with the dongle.  I've tried updating all USB drivers and the MS device drivers with no effect. I've also used USBLogView (a small, free program) to monitor it, and it indeed disconnects and reconnects, but the program doesn't provide more info than that. Any tips on how to troubleshoot this would be appreciated.

The newer Dell laptops (the Precision 7510, for example) have the bottom dock connectors very close to the back edge of the body, so that when you connect to them you have this huge gap at the back even if you slide the little dealy forward that is meant to account for different battery sizes. Yes, I know you can get this plastic spacer to fit in the gap so it is easier to line up, but the way it fits makes it take up a stupid amount of space.
Is there a Dell port replicator that actually has the connectors close to the back so that it doesn't waste all this desk space?
And, yes, I know that they make port replicators that the laptop doesn't sit on, that use the thunderbolt or usb port instead of the dock connector on the bottom. I'm asking specifically about port replicators that use that bottom connector.)
And BTW, Dell, it really doesn't help that you try to hide this by offering one photo of most of these replicators taken at an angle where it's really hard to judge that space.

A:Port replicator / docking station that fits new laptops without huge gap at back?

With it I got an E-Port Plus II docking station, which was basically the same as the one I had for my Dell Latitude E6520, except wider. It's a stretch to say that the laptop fits this port expander. Yes, you can connect it, but it's like putting a 5 year old kid in a 42 large suit-- he can get into it, but it certainly doesn't fit.I told our procurement dept. that they gave me the wrong port expander, though from the answers here it seems that Dell doesn't make one to fit this laptop. Is that something that's coming out soon? Or am I stuck with the kludge I have now"

I have a dell latitude E6520, the specs say it has only usb 2.0 ports.
Will docking station PR03x with USB 3.0 ports work at USB 3.0 speeds in my dell ?

I have just bought a Dell XPS 15 (9560) and a Dell WD15 docking station with 130W power brick (same wattage as the laptop's AC-adapter). When I only use the docking station to power the laptop the discrete graphics card (GTX 1050) does not seem to work. When I am in a game (eg. Starcraft 2), I get like 15 fps with the NVIDIA recommended settings. Then when I plug in the laptops's own power brick (while still in the game) I get an immediate four-fold increase in framerate. When I unplug the laptop's own power brick the framerate drops down to 15 fps again in a heartbeat. Furthermore, when I only power the laptop through the docking station, I cannot even find the discrete GPU in the list when I'm trying to run the Geekbench 4 compute benchmark (OpenCL). Only the integrated graphics shows up. When I plug in laptop's power brick I find GTX 1050 in the list.
I have run the Dell Command Update application and all my drivers and firmware are up to date.
Does anyone have any idea to what the problem could be?
