How to turn on WiFi adapter from command line / How to turn on hotspot

Q: How to turn on WiFi adapter from command line / How to turn on hotspot

I have configured ad-hoc network for internet sharing from my PC. Normally I start it by
netsh wlan start hostednetwork
As I noticed the hotspot is automatically turned off when I turn off WiFi adapter. So I have two questions:

How do I turn on WiFi by command line, so that I can control it from various commandline scripts?
How do I configure the script for WiFi for autostarting hotspot whenever WiFi is turned on?

netsh wlan ...

Preferred Solution: How to turn on WiFi adapter from command line / How to turn on hotspot

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Ad-Hoc requires that you restart the session each time.

Connectify pro has an auto start option that does this but it's a paid version, connectify lite is free but I'm not sure if has auto start.

There is more than one way to do this but all require that you are using a certified Windows 7 driver which installs the Msoft Virtual WiFi adaptor which is used to set up the hosted wireless network.

The real problem with this is that if you already have a wireless connection then why would you need to create an Ad Hoc network in the first place?

I guess if you were somehow limited to a single connection it might come in handy, or if you needed to amplify the signal. You can't share through an Ethernet connection, it only works wireless to wireless.

You can set this up using the command prompt or you can install the connectify software which makes it easier for some. The links below explains the details about setting this up, take your pick, the last one is a download for a virtual router if that's what you wanted.

I have a laptop from a friend who contactd Dell about an issue. The person at Dell told him to use msconfig to set safe mode minimal.

During further discussioin with the Dell rep, he told my friend he needed to do a factory restore. I've done that for my friend, not realizing he had set the flag for Safe Mode boot in MSConfig, and now the restore can't finish because it keeps trying to boot into safe mode.

Is there a way to turn this off in the command prompt. I can get to the Startup Tools of windows 7 with CTRL+F11.

Any help on this is greatly appreciated. I can also get into the system files with linux to edit if needed. I just don't know what to do.

We are looking to initially turn-off the bluetooth function on our deployed computers unless the user specifically needs it. We have already tested two command options: Turn off Bluetooth support service and Disable Bluetooth adapter. Neither of these will

Can someone help us find the command line to execute that will emulate triggering this switch to Off?

My adapter is always gone from resuming from sleep. I know it was working before. Just changed my ram and bios settings from a fresh build. Went from Corsair xms3 to G.Skill Ripjaws.

I am having this same issue with my newly built pc. The drive running Windows 7 is from a laptop where the mobo died. I am using it in AHCI mode because my case has a front hot swap caddy.

I have a Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3 mobo and after installing and uninstalling drivers, software, changing settings, removing ram, changing power options to maximum power for pci card and wifi, turning off hibernate, restarted, rebooted, updated all drivers from Gigabyte, chipset drivers, etc. I have unchecked "allow Windows to turn off this device". Restarted and tested and I get the same issue. I have unchecked this box in all of my networking devices too including, 802.11n Wireless Lan Card #2 and Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter. Also, uninstalled and reinstalled these and updated drivers from my disc that came from Gigabyte as well as driver update from the Gigabyte website.

Nothing I do will turn on my wifi card after sleep. Windows will not see a network adapter. Everything works fine after restarting though. I have S3 enabled in bios as that is what I want. I have case fans that I don't want to hear with no option to turn them off. Otherwise, i'd be fine with S1.

Is this just not a working feature? I've read that sleep is an ongoing issue with Windows, ... Read more

So I have already tried the solutions such as boot up the pc and press shift and such to get a menu and then download somthing on a usb and get into an administrator account. The Administration account I can at least log onto as it's not password protected but I still can't turn on Wi-Fi which basically defeats my whole purpose of using the computer as I use it for gaming. So regarding me not being able to log into my actual account, I've tried resetting my password multiple times without success. I think it's due to the fact that I am not able to connect to any Wi-Fi spots (which I assume is because of safe mode which I can't turn off for some reason) And that brings me to my next point, of I can't connect to Wi-Fi die to safe mode. I have tried to turn off safe mode in the settings but when I press the button for it to turn off it slides back over to the on side. Please let me know if you have any other solutions that I have not tried yet, Thanks !

A:how to turn my laptop into hotspot

Hi harish,
Are you using "netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=Hotspotname key=password " to create the hotspot?
To troubleshoot whether the issue only occurred with the phone device, we could try to connect another device to the hotspost to have a check.
If the issue persists, we could try to reinstall the network driver and recreate the hotspot to have a check.

So, there are many articles out there that will show you how to use cmd prompt to create a wifi hotspot (eg: this article Internet Connection Sharing - Create WiFi HotSpot)

However, is there anyway to do this with TWO separate wifi adapters? That is, use one adapter to connect to your router and the other to act as the router? Some articles seem to indicate this is the ideal setup but no one seems to specify how to control which wifi adapter is used to create the wifi hostpot in command prompt.

Thanks for any help.

If I can get the basics to work, the next step is to try to integrate a VPN so that I can basically use my PC as a VPN router (but with no physical ethernet connection).

Without getting into the back story of how the Windows 8.1 power options are horrific for mobile devices..... I simply want to be able to run a batch file to call the command used to turn the display off but not sleep.

Ideally i want to be able to assign this action to my physical power button on my tablet but that seems impossible to do so this is the next best thing.

If anyone can help that would be great.

Update: I found this program which allows me to at least turn the screen off easily even if its not using the physical power button (note you'll need .Net Framework installed and to run as Administrator)

A:mIRC 6.03's DCC command. How do I turn it OFF? (nt)

Working on the assumption you want to disable all DCC sends and receives:

Open mIRC, go to mIRC Options (second button from the left), click on the plus sign to the left of "DCC" in the left-hand column.

With "DCC" highlighted on the left, you should now see two places to check to ignore...one for Send requests and one for Chat requests. If you want to ignore them, click them both to put a check in the box.

If, however, you want to be notified of any attempts to DCC to you, click on the "Show get dialog" in both categories ("On send request" and "On Chat request.") With those two checked, anytime somebody tries to send you a file or initiate a DCC chat session, a box will pop up asking you if you want to accept or decline.

You might also want to click on "Server" in the left hand pane and then in the right-hand pane, make sure "Enable DCC server" is unchecked.

After making any changes, be sure to click on OK to close the window so all changes will be saved.

hi folks,

I'm currently running Windows XP SP3 on a netbook which is connected via WiFi to the internet. One of the executable programs I use require the netbook to be offline before it can load properly.

What I wanted to know was, is it possible I can write a command line prompt that will automatically kick in when the executable runs. The prompt would disconnect the WiFi, allowing the program to boot offline without having to manually disconnect everytime.

Thanks in advance for reading the post

For more information you can read this document Enable/Disable Wireless Card from Command Line

First you have to download devcon.
Unzip it and copy the unzipped devcon.exe file to c:\windows\system32

Then create a file in notepad, copy the code below and paste it into the file. save it to your desktop as something like myprogram.bat:

devcon disable *DEV_001C*
devcon enable *DEV_001C*
The device ID (DEV_001C) is found in your dxdiag.txt file that you attached and is the device ID of your Wireless card.
Program.exe is the name of the executable program that you want to run - change it to the name of your program's file name.
The batch file will disable the wireless card, then run the program. Once you exit the program the wireless card will be enabled again.

Or else

devcon disable *DEV_001C*
start program.exe
devcon enable *DEV_001C*
This batch file will disable the wireless card, Start the program and then enable the wireless card regardless of whether you are still in the program or not.

Note Devcon is a very powerful tool and you will have to be logged in as an administrator to run it.

Hi all,

I also have this posted over at the MS Windows XP newsgroups, but not much luck there so far.

Not an urgent problem by any means, just an academic question/loose end to tie up.

I have two scheduled tasks for power management purposes: One to have wizmo force the computer to standby at 10 pm, the other to start Internet Explorer at 6:15 am to wake the computer from standby.

Both tasks work fine, but upon wakeup, the monitor doesn't turn on. I have to move the mouse to wake up the monitor.

Obviously, since I have to move the mouse anyway, this isn't really a problem at all. It's more of a discussion question/exercise in Windows management:

Is there a command I can run at the command line to force the monitor to turn on? That way I could put the IE startup and the monitor turn-on command in a batch file and run that at 6:15. If not, is there some setting somewhere that will ensure the monitor wakes up when the computer does?

One person at the XP newsgroups suggested scheduling another task after the IE start/computer wakeup task, such as a command line ping to localhost. I did try this but no luck; the monitor still refused to turn on when I ran the ping cmd file as a scheduled task.

Any other ideas are welcome. Thanks!

A:Command Or Setting To Force Monitor To Turn On?

Short of leaving the monitor on all the time, I don't believe that Windows has this ability. Maybe a driver for the monitor would have this feature (I don't know as I don't use any special monitor drivers)?

Ok, this is so screwed up you just won't believe it.

I had a problem that I won't go into now but I got to the point where I decided the only recourse was to re-install XP. After the install, it told me I needed to register before I could log in. Ok, fine. So I hit OK and it crashes. I figured out that it would let me log in if I booted into safe mode. At some point I set msconfig to automatically boot into safe mode. Now when it boots into safe mode I get the message requireing me to register, but then I get a message saying I can't register when in safe mode. But until I log in, I can't set msconfig to boot normally. So I'm stuck. Where do I find the ini or whatever file that is booting it into safe mode?

A:How to turn off safe mode in a command prompt

well, if you can enter safe mode - go to run -> msconfig -> boot.ini -> and uncheck boot in safe mode.

You only need to activate windows, registring is optional.

Okay so I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. It's pretty old as I got it in 2009, and yes the battery is shot to hell. But it has worked in this condition.

The problem is I can't get the adapter to turn on to get my computer powered on. To my knowledge, there's no shortage or exposed wires on it. I can even post a picture if you would like.

Before people also tell me to get a new laptop, I'm broke. This is my only option for now. And as stated earlier, it has worked in this condition before. The LED on the adapter won't even turn on when I keep trying to plug it into different power sources.

If anyone can help with this it would be very much appreciated. Thank you!!!

I have a mac 2013(early) running win10 (obviously). I have my TV with a auxiliary port. I want to know if it is possible to use some software to turn my laptop into an adapter between my Bluetooth headphones and the TV. I have heard that if the volume is too loud from the TV going into a auxiliary port, it could fry something. I feel like this is something that could be doable, and software exists. But I cannot find any, and I really want to use my Bluetooth headphones so no one can hear my TV when playing games and such.

A:software to turn mac into bluetooth adapter?

If you are using the tv as an external monitor as well as for watching broadcasts you would simply mute that if not Bluetooth capable and then use either the head phone jack on the laptop itself or see the Bluetooth app configure the head set there not through the tv. Does the headset happen to have a usb dongle by chance?

On a quick Bing search for looking a guide for seeing Bluetooth installed on 10 you will also find instructions on how to see Bluetooth already present and accounted for enabled on 10 rather easily. The following was quickly found from the Help From Microsoft pages in the Bing search results itself with an embedded video short.

To connect your Bluetooth headset, speaker, or headphones to your Windows 10 PC, you'll need to pair the device first.

Turn on your Bluetooth device and make it discoverable. The way you make it discoverable depends on the device. Check the device info or website to find out more.On the taskbar, select the action center icon, and make sure Bluetooth is turned on.In action center, select Connect, then pick your device.Follow any additional instructions. Otherwise, you're done.

Hi, my laptop (HP ProBook 450 G0) won't turn on without the AC adapter although the battery is charged (97%). When the adapter isn't plugged in, the adapter/battery LED (on the left side of the laptop) is flashing really fast (like 20times per sec). When I press the power button, nothing happens. When the adapter is plugged in, I can turn the laptop on. The adapter/battery LED is off, Windows say "plugged in, not charging". I ran battery test and system hardware test and everything's OK. I tried hard reset (pressing power button 30 sec) and it didn't help. Any advice? Thanks in advance

Have updated to 8 from XP. Can't use wifi. I can connect but wifi says off and I cannot work out to turn on. I have a generic lap top that never missed a beat under XP. With XP the driver was, per the cd, wireless networking solution by msi. When I check after upgrade it now says ralink technology11g mini pci. Like a lot of people, I have had problems with updates failing, whoever doing them in lots of 5 I have got them through, except 1 from ralink 11g minipci. Greatly appreciate if someone could tell me how to turn wifi on, or how to rerun failed update for driver. I am not super cluey however can handle all the basics. Bob.

A:Wifi says off, how to turn on.

Maybe try this:
Click start and type "ncpa.cpl" and hit enter (or you can go to My Documents and type in the address bar "ncpa.cpl" and hit enter) then right click on Wi-Fi or your internet and click enable. Do not know if this will work but you can give it a try.

My internet connection goes off regularly. To solve this issue I try turning my wifi off, leaving it for a few seconds and turning it back on. However, it takes me more than 15 times to try and get the WiFi back on. I turn the flight mode on and off to jump start it and it doesn't work. I try to turn my wifi box on and off and it doest work. I restart my laptop and that doesnt help. I've looked online and couldn't find the answer hence why I've resulted to come here. I'm to the point where I want to return my laptop and never use hp again due to the level of frustration! Help please?
