Lenovo X1 Yoga 4th Gen - External monitor no longer works

Q: Lenovo X1 Yoga 4th Gen - External monitor no longer works

As of today or yesterday night I can my laptop cannot connect to my external LG monitor. It used to work since I bought it a couple of months ago I am running on win10 Things I have tried -- Connected the monitor with the same cable to another laptop --> it works-- Uninstalled the graphics driver / rebooted --> no change-- Rolled back the graphics driver / rebooted --> no change-- Used both usb-c and hdmi cables to connect to the monitor --> no change -- No secondary monitor detected in the intel graphics card panel and in win10 display settings -- Rebooted a dozen of times --> no change-- Installed all latest updates --> no change -- uninstalled some of the recent driver updates (not related to the display but you never know) --> no change The monitor when connected lights up but then goes to standby mode. I can charge my laptop via the usb-c connection of the monitor but that's pretty much it I am really out of ideas on this one.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hey Everyone! Trying to get an idea of what order to start throwing parts at this thing. Like the title says, my screen on the Yoga 2 Pro is blank. The computer boots and runs fine on an external monitor. I haven't pulled the bezel off the screen yet, but the video cable looks good on the mobo end. I am guessing I probably need to buy a new screen, but was wondering if I could have a cable issue before I spend $150 on a screen.  Couple of interesting things:In the device manager, only the external display is in the "Monitor" list. I don't have an option to mirror displays in the graphics properties or anything. My compupter just things there's one monitor, the external one.  I was having flickering issues leading up to the screen going out. Flickering only occured on battery.  Any thoughts?

A:Lenovo Yoga 13 max resolution for external monitor

Dear undersound,

Welcome to Lenovo Community,

The Yoga 13 has the Intel HD Graphics 4000 so its maximum resolution is 1600 x 900 IPS (wide viewing angle) so on the external monitor it will not display 1900x1200 FHD.

Best Regards,

Hi,

I recently purchased a Lenovo Yoga 900 to replace an older Lenovo Thinkpad. I use two laptops with the same peripherals, so I run an external monitor (Dell Ultrasharp 29" monitor), a keyboard, and a mouse into a Display Link Docking Station. I then use a IOGear switch to toggle between the two laptops. The new Lenovo Yoga laptop picks up the keyboard and mouse, but does not identify the external monitor. Below are details on the new laptop.

? 6th Generation Intel Core i7-6500U Processor (2.50GHz 1600MHz 4MB)
? Windows 10 Home 64
? Intel® HD Graphics 520 (graphics card)
My other laptop is an HP ProBook running Windows 7 Professional. All of the peripherals work fine using the docking station and switch (as did the old Lenovo Thinkpad). The only exception is that in my previous configuration, the monitor would periodically not connect with the new laptop when I used the switch, and I would need to restart in order for the monitor to work with the latpop I had selected on the switch. The mouse and keyboard did not have this problem.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Yoga 3 laptop screen is broken but the computer appears to still be working. Is there a way to move the login screen to an external monitor ? I've got a monitor that I've used with that laptop connected and the mouse cursor shows up there but I can't find a way to disable the laptop screen so that the login prompt is on the external monitor. The function key f9 switches the laptop screen but laptop doesn't switch over to the external monitor... Any help would be most appreciated, thanks

Good afternoon, Since this morning and the latest windows 10 update (update Version 1607), my external monitor (LG - Flatron w2220P) is not recognized anymore. It was working just fine until now : i use a simple usb-c 3.1 to VGA adaptator. Until now I tried the following solutions : I tried to go back to the previous windows update. Did not work. Then I updated the drivers for the graphic chip, the usb buses. Did not work. I just downgraded the drivers with the pack I found on Lenovo yoga 900 page. But it does not seem to work neither. Can someone help ?

I'm hoping to get a new external monitor for my laptop, but I am not sure how compatibility works in this case. This is the monitor I want to connect: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WHSW195/ref=sspa_dk_detail_0?pd_rd_i=B07HGK5S9Z&pd_rd_w=dgB9o&pf_rd_p=2... This monitor is only 1080p, so I know that my laptop should be able to handle the resolution easily because many people on here have mentioned 4k external monitors for their 920s. However, the ultrawide (21:9) aspect ratio and the 144hz refresh rate worry me. Would my laptop be compatible with a setup like that? And if so, would it be powerful enough to run it smoothly and quickly? I'm mostly interested in basic functions as I'm not a huge gamer, I just want a better setup for media consumption, work, etc. Any input is appreciated!

I tried doing a system restore to a few days earlier and it didn't work. Then I updated the BIOS and it suddenly started connecting again. The problem is the next day it stopped connecting to the monitor again. This time I couldn't update the BIOS because I already had the latest version. And even if I could I shouldn't be having to do that. What can I do?

I have a really weird but unpleasant problem with my Yoga 2 Pro. Recently the fan of my yoga 2 pro no longer starts (I do not hear the noise of running fan anymore). As a result the back of my yoga 2 pro gets very unplesantly hot and soon thereafter the windows 10 crashes with critical_process_died. I am not sure if this has anything to do with Windows 10 upgrade, since overheating became serious only afterwards, but this could be a coincidence. I downloaded the Lenovo diagnostic tools and the Yoga 2 Pro passes the memory, hdd and CPU test. There is a fan test wich states 'No fan detected'. Could someone with a Yoga 2 Pro let me know if they have a fan detected and can run a fan diagnostic test? I opened the Yoga 2 Pro and inspected the fans, the connections, everything seems fine. The fans are clean and they can spin freely. I am not sure what troubleshooting I can do next. I reduced the CPU speed in the power setting to 50 % and I can use the yoga 2 Pro without crashing for now. Any advice will be most appreciated. Thanks!

A:yoga 2 pro fan no longer works

Hey, did you get this fixed? I'm having the same problem but nothing I read seems to help. I have taken the laptop into a computer shop who mucked about and couldn't help, said the fans themselves are OK.Interestingly the fans started for a few minutes a week ago before going back to sleep so I'm almost certain it is a software issue.Any help would be sweet!

This is important to my work flow and is just one of a number of things not to love about 8.1. I would like to get this functioning before I tackle less important issues. Thank goodness 8.1 is installed on a test drive.

I purchased a Lenovo Yoga 730 15" i7 in early August.  For the past couple weeks the screen has started to flicker / go all gray/beige for a few seconds at a time before returning to normal.  On Sunday, the screen went gray/beige for several seconds (longest that I've seen thus far) then went black.  I tried rebooting several times, powering on/off, moving the angle of the screen - nothing worked to bring back the display.  I plugged the laptop into a 4K television via HDMI and the picture displayed perfectly.  It doesn't appear to be an issue with the GPU, at least not that I can tell. Additionally, I updated the drivers to the latest recommended and updated the BIOS to the latest version found on Lenovo's support website.  Important to note, in one of the many restarts that I did after these updates the Lenovo's loading image displayed for a brief second before Windows loaded before going back to black.  This only happened once and I couldn't reproduce it. Any ideas or thoughts as to what happened and how the situation can be remedied?  Thanks!

I recently updated my BIOS from 99CN24WW to 99CN28WW and experienced some changes in my system, specifically the passwords. I can no longer access administrative options in BIOS; it?s as if the user password and admin password have switched. The admin password I enter allows me to boot the computer up, and enter BIOS, but all of the options are greyed out, safe boot is disabled, and the change admin password option is missing. I can change the user password, but that doesn?t help. The HDD passwords were switched as well, but those both seem to be working, they?ve just been switched.  I?ve read that it might be possible to clear that password by resetting whats stored in CMOS memory. So I tried removing the RTC battery for some time, but that only reset the system time. I learned that theres some dedicated non-volatile memory that the BIOS is stored on. On desktops there are usually some jumpers that can help to reset these passwords, and I have a friend who helped me identify the short pads that clear CMOS and ME (which I assume is memory). Before going that route, I wanted to see if there was anything lenovo could help me with. Even just confirming if I am looking at the correct short pads would be helpful. I'm willing to try flashing my BIOS again to the previous version if it will help, but I don't have a backup of that ROM. If necessary I can provide proof of purchase, ID, and whatever else you may need. For some unknown reason the HDMI connection between my laptop and my second monitor no longer works. The monitor itself is working fine, but it now gets no connection from my laptop. Worse, because I had set it to the #1 display, when I connect the two, the control panel and anything I had on my laptop display goes to the second. And Windows 10 doesn't have that handy "Move" feature that older Windows have, so I cannot see the control panel while both monitors are in use.

What do I do?

EDIT: I don't think this was the right forum; can a mod please move this to General Support?

This is driving me insane, cant find a solution on the internet and can't figure it out myself. It worked fine in windows 7 but now when I choose "duplicate display" from the side menu popup the tv goes blank as if Ive unplugged the hdmi. All 3 of the remaining display options work including the extend display and tv only setting so its not a cable issue. Laptop model is XPS 17 L702X. Now when I used to do it in win 7 sometimes it wouldnt autodetect it so I would have to right click desktop, open invidia up and click rigorous display detect or something like that and then laptop screen would blink and make the beep noise like when hdmi cable got connected. Now in the invida panel it just simply wont allow mirroring, nothing happens when I right click on the display box that would normally show 1 and a smaller box would say 2. I dont get it but Id really like that feature back If its something simple I could do.

A:Duplicate monitor to TV via hdmi no longer works

Ive actually seen a lot of people having this problem from the google search results I get but it seems like everyone either gets it situated and never reposts solution, or is so fed up that they just revert to 7 or 8.1 or whatever os actually had this feature working. Ive seen multiple screenshots of "duplicate display" as an option in the dropdown options when pin display settings however mine only shows "extend" "only 1" and "only 2" but if I hit win-p I get all 4 options but duplicate just wont work, the tv goes blank and gives me the message you get when i unplug the hdmi. Extend works fine as well as "only 2" which shows the screen on the tv and blacks my laptop screen. It's not even a major problem because now that im using "only 2" I actually prefer it but now its become one of those computer puzzles thats driving me crazy because I cant solve it. I think it has something to do with the combination of nvidia and intel graphics because the nvidia control panel options have changed as well, no longer showing laptop screen under the intel line but I clean installed the nvidia driver so I cant imagine updating a driver would take away features. I dont know, but id sure like to know whats causing this to not work.

Sorry about how long this is but I don't want you to miss any details that could've caused this issue.

Alright, so, I have a Sceptre X20WG Naga 20.1" monitor on a DVI connection with my EVGA GTX460 card. I was using it yesterday while studying for finals and decided to hook up my 37" Westinghouse TV via VGA connection, using a VGA-to-DVI converter to plug into the graphics card, as the card only has dual-DVI and mini-HDMI outputs. It was working grand as a second screen, no issue at all. Now, today, I turned on my computer and my Sceptre Monitor wasn't outputting any images at all, it just said no signal detected and then went to sleep, though my computer was still on. So I turned on the TV out of curiosity and found that the TV was now the main screen, still with the VGA connection, and I hadn't unplugged anything since yesterday. So I logged in and right-clicked on the desktop, went to screen resolution, and here it says that the TV is the only screen detected, even after hitting detect. So I unplugged the VGA from to TV and plugged it into the Sceptre Monitor. Turned on the computer and the monitor worked like a charm on the VGA cable. I also plugged the DVI cable that I was using for the monitor into the TV and that worked like a champ too. The only reason this is bugging me is because I won't always be using the TV as a main display because it's kinda of a pain to sit close to a screen that big. So I am currently on this forum while my monitor is using the VGA... Read more

A:DVI Port no longer works, AND Windows won't detect monitor with DVI

MustangFX93 welcome to the Seven Forums.

As you discovered only the first DVI port (DVI-I, analogue and digital) on the card will work with the DVI-VGA adapter and the second being DVI only (DVI-D, digital only). It also makes it that no matter what you do the first port is considered the primary port by the video card, with the only way around it is to try and modify the bios of the video card to change which it thinks is the primary port (not recommended); there is nothing you can do from within Windows to change this.

About the only thing you can do is from within Windows set the monitor as the primary display and then use the Windows key + P to set it how you want it (computer only, or extended displays for example).

When I plug in or unplug my external display to my laptop, my display options no longer automatically reconfigure as they used to do. Now if I unplug the monitor, Windows acts as if it's still there, and windows that were on the monitor stay offscreen (as does the cursor, if that's where it was). I can manually move the cursor back, right-click load graphics properties and make changes OR do an F-key combo to move everything back on the laptop screen OR program a hotkey but these are all pretty annoying for one reason or another.

Any ideas about the cause? Unfortunately this must have started happening sometime in the last two weeks--at the same time as I made a load of major computer changes. However this did NOT include a graphics driver change (my graphics driver is current). At this point I feel it could be anything, but I'm wondering if it could be a recent BIOS update I did that HP recommended.

By way of troubleshooting I did run Windows in safe mode with ONLY the "ATI Catalyst" and "AMD External Events utility" running on top of the basic services, in case a newly installed service was stealing hotplugging messages, but that didn't do anything. I've also gone exhaustively through my graphics driver settings to make sure everything there looks correct. No luck. Any ideas?

A:Autodetection of hotplugged/unplugged monitor no longer works

Hello slickh Welcome to the Seven Forums!

When you go to plug in or unplug the monitor you aded on is the laptop on or turned off completely? If you didn't shut it down using the shutdown option in Windows to power down fully before unplugging the monitor that would be one immediate concern.

The second item for why things can open on the part of the display you can't see is controlled by the display setting for dual monitors once Windows has detected a second one present. If you set the display to extend the desktop over to a second monitor that same setting would still be in use with or without the monitor being plugged in.

I have a firewire card installed in my computer and it used to work just fine. after a few months it would start giving me problems, and i would have to unplug the device connected to it and plug it back in to get it working again. sometimes i would even have to try using a different port. now it doesnt work at all... i can plug in my video camera (sony vx2100) or my external harddrive and get no results. i looked in the device manager and didnt see anything about the firewire. i'm not sure if its not working because of missing drivers, or if the firewire itself is no longer working. can anyone help me out? is there a place i could download these drivers?

Hi, few days ago screen on my notebook Probook 6560b  with discreete GPU 6470M went black.  Monitor does not have any backlight and also there is no picture on it (looking at angle...so it is not faulty backlight). Pulled all devices out (HDD, CD-ROM) but monitor still remains blank (no BIOS screen). On external output (VGA or DP) there is pictrure, but it can not load any Windows (I have dualboot Windows 10 and WindowsXP). In Windows 10 shows error: VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE What failed: atikmpag.sys. In Windows XP, also blue screen with error in atikmpag.sys. So, I booted in SafeMode and remove Radeon HR6470M driver and put Standard VGA driver. Now PC boots to OS, but still only on external monitor. Tried to reinstall drivers, but it always fails with blank screen and PC freeze. With some many tries and restarts, in one moment notebook monitor starts to working again. But only up to next Windows restart.I tried to put new HDD in it and install fresh Windows...but same thing. Booted from live linux distro...only external monitor works. So, as I can see, external monitors on VGA or DP can work but only with generic VGA drivers. OS correctly recognize graphic card, but when driver is installed external monitor also goes blank and windows freezes (not responding on caps/num lock, no longer pingable on network). As in one moment internal monitor went back online it seams that maybe is some bad connections...but where...GPU or video memory? Also tried HP diagnostic... It slowly started to work intermittently and then just quit all together. Keyboard keys just stop working  So far some seemingly random LOWERCASE letters stop working, if I hold shift I get an uppercase just fine, or if I hit capslock it will give me the uppercase of whatever letter is not working for that day, so the button itself is fine. This has happened on several different keys completely randomly for no apparent reason what so ever. The only way to fix the issue once it occurs is to stop what you are doing and restart the computer. . . Doing so might fix it for a week or an hour. In the middle of typing or clicking, or doing anything at all it decides to "sleep"    I can be in the middle of typing something, moving the mouse to click on something, or using the stylus to take notes and without warning it will enter sleep/hibernation mode. . .  I have updated the drivers to the latest that are available, I also updated the BIOS to the latest recommended to see if that might help solve some of the issues. So far no lu... Read more

Hi! I just purchased a monitor and was hoping to work on my laptop and an additional monitor. I purchased a usbc to hdmi dongle, and it worked fine until now. I switched to using a usbc to hdmi cord instead and it still does not work so I'm pretty sure its a driver issue. I've checked Windows "Project to a Second Screen" option along with the same setting associated with my Intel Graphics 620 card. My computer can detect the connection to the monitor (from devices in the Control Panel) but when I go to the display/project settings my computer cannot detect another display. I've reinstalled the driver and restarted the computer multiple times. I've never owned a Lenovo device so I was also wondering if it was a weird Lenovo setting by chance haha Any feedback/help would be appreciated! I'm new to the Lenovo forums and would really appreciate it if anyone could help out! Especially since it used to work and no longer works. I can upload screenshots if that would help.

Hello everyone,  I recently purchased a Lenovo Yoga 720 13IKB. I've only have the unit for about three (3) weeks and the batter is no longer able to charge when connected to the power supply that came with the unit. I checked the AC adapter to make sure that it was properly connected to PC and it was. I plugged it to different outlets and it didn't help. I bought a replacement powersupply from my local MicroCenter and still nothing. I checked the Control Panel, open up the Power Options to see if there were any settings in there but nothing to show why it wasn't chraging. Then Opened the Device Manager. Under "Batteries" I saw two items, one for the battery and another listed as "Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery". I Opened each item, which will brought up the Properties window. Under the "Driver" tab looked for "Update Driver." I went through the two options and did the same process of updating drivers. I went through the driver update process for all options. Once the drivers are all up to date, I rebooted the laptop and plug it in again. Then i unninstalled "Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery" completely and reboot. Still the problem persists.  I even updated all the windows Updates. Then I opened Lenovo's Companion app. I updated all the drivers that need updating and nothing changed. I still have my PC connected to AC power and the battery isn't charging. I opened the lenovo setting app and checked under battery section... Read more

A:Lenovo Yoga 720 13IKB No longer charging

Is it not charging at all, or just stuck at around 60%.    I ask because there i an option in Energy Management to select Maximum Battery Life, or Optimized Battery Health, and if set the latter (which I believe is the default), it will only charge to about 60 percent of capacity in an attempt to prolong the life of the battery.    Setting it to Maximum battery life will allow the batter to charge to 100% and you will get a longer run time, but you may have to replace the battery sooner.     If you leave the laptop usually plugged in, then optimized batter health is the better option. Cheers,

I've had the laptop for 3.5 years and have intermttently had issues with the headphone jack, but all resolved after restarting the laptop. Approximately 2 days ago, the laptop stopped recognizing anything plugged into the headphone jack. I have tried multiple pairs of headphones that are confirmed to work on other devices. The laptop was turned on from sleep mode and the headphone jack had been working immediately prior. There are no devices recognized when anything is plugged into the headphone jack. The only thing I can think may have changed is that I updated the BIOS version. I have tried reinstalling the BIOS version and updating the RealTek Audio drivers. Unfortunately, I do not have a system restore point saved from before I updated the BIOS. I have attempted to update drivers through the online Lenovo diagnostics, but the driver updates will not install and the hardware scan will not run. I can't think of anything else to try, does anyone else have any suggestions?

After removing System Internals Process Explorer the old Resource Monitor windows is blank with the exception of the File Menu items (which do not respond).  How do I get it back?  I really don't want to reinstall, so please don't call that a fix.

Thanks - Art

I have a Lenovo Yoga 720-121KB Laptop (ideapad) that has worked great in switching between laptop-keyboard to the tablet-mode.  However I can no longer utilize the tablet-mode as the touch screen is no longer working.  A year or so ago I had a similar problem and the fix was to install a BIOS/Driver change and it started working again.  I have install all the latest Bios, drivers, patches, Windows10 updates from the Lenovo web site.  Still broken. What do I need to do to get this touch screen working again?Thank you,Darwin

Help!  My Lenovo Yoga 3 14 is no longer accepting the charge from my power adapter. And, naturally, it could not have come at a more inconvenient time. When I unplug and plug it back in, it gives me the following message in the lower right-hand corner:"USB device not recognizedThe last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it." When I click for details, it gives me this:"The last usb device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. Try reconnecting the device. If Windows still does not recognize it, your device may not be working properly." Except this isn't just any USB device - it's the ever-loving power adapter for this thing! I've tried everything and I'm at my wit's end. Any help?

Hi, I have a np9770 sager laptop and about a day ago the brightness settings no longer work and external monitors I plug in no longer work either. My version of 8.1 is fully updated with windows update. Nothing as far as I know changed but here is what I have tried to fix it:

1. Running driver sweeper in safe mode and reinstalling most recent drivers from nvidia.com
a. Running driver sweeper again in safe mode and installing drivers from the sagernotebook.com website
2. Uninstalling and scanning for hardware changes fo generic monitor in device manager
3. Running sfc /scannow in command prompt, nothing wrong
4. Updating chipset drivers from both the intel.com website and sagernotebook.com website
5. Rolling back windows to a restore point on the 12th of September, about 5 days ago
6. Creating another user account
7. Verified adaptive brightness is off in advanced power settings.

Odd things I found:
1. In device manager the gtx 980m display adapter has a warning triangle on it and this message when I double click on it:
"Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"
This has been constant throughout the whole ordeal
2. Whenever connecting a monitor as soon as I plug it in the monitor lights up as if it were going to work and just says hdmi not connected then goes to sleep. Nothing is detected in device manager.
