I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My laptop really works fine - there's just one point annoying me: For a few days now, I don't have any on screen display anymore for all FN keys: no volume, brightness display - no problem. No Caps display - ehm. No selection for display changing or wifi/bluetooth - I don't have an idea to do it otherwise. No bluetooth entry in the system panel neither. WLAN works fine, but Bluetooth is off. I want my black on screen alerts back! I tried with updating the power management - nothing changed. I tried to reinstall the power management driver - nothing. What can I do?

One hint says you could activate the on screen display in the display settings. What, please, is the Display Settings dialogue called like in German Win7? I can't find it.

Hello, I have a problem with setting a custom splashscreen when booting my Thinkpad L440 in UEFI mode. The BIOS I am using is version 1.86 and model L440 obtainable from here http://support.lenovo.com/no/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-l-series-laptops/thinkpad-l44... as per the requirements I have made the images 16 colours palette (4bpp), both images adhere to the standards logo1 legacy boot (640X480) and logo2 UEFI boot (1366X768) where I used .gif format. The problem is that only the legacy boot screen splash actually gets used, but the UEFI boot splash image (logo2) does not appear at all. Everything that happens is that you get a completely black boot screen with only the (press enter to interrupt boot... ) option. I have tried many different pictures, and different formats but arrived to the conclusion that it is broken.  Trying to boot Windows with broken custom splash screen, I get a BSOD with the error IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL  and can't boot into Windows 8.1. This makes me believe that something is not working properly, and not only does setting a custom splash screen on UEFI boot not actually show my bootscreen, it could have damaged some UEFI boot drivers so that Windows is unable to start properly. Maybe the tool is outdated and did not save the splash screen correctly? Upon re-flashing the BIOS using winuptp.exe it asked me if I wanted to keep my custom splash screen, and when I hit yes it simply crashed. &nb... Upon thinking more about it, it might be the BIOS company also makes this flash tool and I am supposed to contact them instead of Lenovo, can anyone verify that this flash tool is by a 3rd party company and not something Lenovo is responsible for? I seem to recall winflash also existed when updating Acer BIOS

Hi Ms,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

We understand that your display is not working in your L440 laptop.

Issue might be with the LCD cable. Since the external display is working fine there is no issue with the motherboard.

Note: As per the Lenovo policy, the warranty will be void if the laptop is dismantled by yourself.

We would like you to visit the nearest authorised Lenovo service centre to purchase the power supply.

Hello finally I got my L440 and made RAM upgrade to 16GB and I also want it to have an SSD. After reading all the manuals and forum messages I think that it have  a sutiable port for an mSATA SDD which will solve my problem in a great way without replacing anything.

My question is, my machine didn't come with an mSATA or WWAN option. While making the RAM upgrade I checked the ports and there is only one seems to be suitable for mSATA but since area is too small I couldn't be sure if it is the one. Can you please check the attachment and tell me if any mSATA will fit in that port? Or maybe it is not for mSATA and I should go with the traditional SSD solutions by replacing the disc?

Thanks

A:msata SSD for L440?

Hi,

According to the Hardware Maintenance Manual, page 70 that slot is for a WWAN card or M.2 SSD.  An mSATA SSD will not fit.

From what I read here in the boards, finding a high capacity SSD in the right physical size is  a problem.  There are multiple sizes - IIRC the 42mm version is used in Lenovo laptops.

Is it OK to add 8GB (so I will have 12GB in total) or it would be better to add 4GB in order to have two similar SODIMMs?2. Are there any known incompatibilities for specific brands? I found two SODIMMs from Kingston (part numbers KVR16S11/8 and KVR16LS11/8) and one from Crucial (part number CT102464BF160B). All are clocked at 1600MHz. Thanks in advance,E. PS: I beleive that I can upgrade the RAM without voiding the warranty, can't I?

About 2 mo ago I got a brand new (warehouse fugitive) L440.  It had Win7 Pro 64bit.  the first thing I did after starting it was to let it upgrade to Win 10.  I'm a big fan and really like it, the 440, not so much.  I like the speed and quality of the build, It does everything I want and does it exceptionally well, I just can't stand the keyboard.  After reinstalling Win 10 in my T400 everything is finally working as it should and It has a far superior keyboard.  I want to reset it to give to my brother.  When I go to reset it I only get two options, and I don't really want to lose all the factory installed apps.  I'm alson a little concerned that Windows Explorer is showing Windows 7_OS (C.  It has all the app files.  It's not shown as a reset option in Settings, tho.   What's the best way to go here.  I still hae just shy of 4 year s of warrantee on it and don't want to mess that up.

I have an L440 (20AS) that has an M.2 expansion slot. My laptop is having the stock 500GB HDD as the only storage installed as of now. I am thinking of installing an M.2 SSD and using that as the primary boot disk, while keeping my current HDD as it is for pure storage purpose. I have a few questions:1. Is it possible to have such configuration without any hiccups?2. If yes, which would be the best M.2 disk to buy? Any suggestions?3. Is there any way to transfer my current system from existing HDD without reinstalling Windows (I am on Windows 10) on the M.2 SSD? My current C: drive is 65GB (25GB free). All data except installed softwares are in D: drive which is 400GB. So if everything is OK, I will try to buy an M.2 SSD around 128GB and will have to transfer my current C: to that, if that's possible.

Short answer is yes. My L440 has a Transcend TS256GMTS400 I installed in the M.2 slot, and the software that is downloadable for it allows you to copy the O/S drive to the SSD and boot from it. My L440 goes from power on to logon in literally a few seconds and I still have the 512GB HDD available for things that don't need the blinding speed of the SSD.

Hi, There seems to be some problem detected for my original 16GB M.2 SSD, so I want to replace it with a new one. I bought the following one, which should be compatible https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KBZH72I/ref=twister_B00KBZH7E6?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 My question is, after I get it, should I just remove the original one and install the new one? Is there any other thing I should to complete the replacement? The OS is on my HDD, but I don't plan to move it to the new SSD. In this case, do I just need to remove the old one and install the new one? The reason why I ask is that the manual says: "Ensure that you partition the M.2 solid-state drive after installing it on the computer you are servicing. Otherwise, the M.2 solid-state drive will not function correctly." Thanks a lot!

Hello, I am trying to replace the LCD screen for my friend's laptop. Her laptop is the Lenovo T61 14.1" with the following LCD panel: WXGA+ 1440x900 widescreen. She accidently cracked the LCD (but at least not the outside cover). I am trying to see if I can get a panel equivalent to that and am wondering if it is possible to substitute it for similar panels. The LCD bezel/cover does not come with a camera but with a LED to shine light on the keyboard if that is at all useful in determining compatibility. The subsitute panel I was looking at is:Samsung 14.1" WXGA+ 1440x900 Matte LCD Display PanelPart Number: LTN141BT06-002Alternate PN's: N141C3-L07, 486272-001-LCD, 483201-001-LCD, 623156-001, LTN141AT13-101, N141C3-L07-CD, LTN141AT13-001, LTN141BT06-002-CD, LTN141BT06-002-LOT5, LTN141BT06-002-LOT10  The one that appears to be compatible with the T61 is P/N LTN141WD-L05 Looking at both of these panels, they appear to be built similarly so I'm not sure if it is possible to try the subsitute panel and hope that would work. Or are Lenovo laptops picky with certain LCD panels so I have to buy a specific one? Mostly doing this to cut down on price so it can be as affordable as possible for my friend. Thanks for your help!

Hi Shlapenka,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

We are sorry to hear that LCD backlight is not working in L440 laptop.

Usually, these symptoms indicate a blown fuse on the motherboard.  The issue comes up frequently when LED-backlight screens are broken.  Lenovo does not do this type of repair (other than motherboard replacement). It can be done, but most places do not have the specialized equipment to diagnose and repair.

I would like to suggest you to visit the authorised Lenovo service centre for the hardware assistance.

03X6657 is the Lenovo part number.  That corresponds to several manufacturers' part numbers off various brands.

If you are buying non-Lenovo-branded RAM, you need DDR3L (1.35v) 1600 mHz SODIMM.  It might be described as PC3-12800.  Avoid RAM labeled Value Ram.  I always suggest checking return policy on RAM before buying.  Everybody has their favorite brands.  If I am buying RAM for myself, I like Corsair Vengeance.  I have never had a failure or a compatibility problem.

A:thinkpad l440 cpu upgrade?

If you do it yourself it will certainly be cheaper, but the CPU is not considered customer-replaceable, so it may affect your warranty status. If you can do the replacement in a professional manner, so it doesn't look worked on, probably nobody will complain, as long as you keep the old part and replace it back before getting service. The FRU of the i7-4600m is 04X4049. You do not want to get one marked "ES" (engineering sample). The ES parts may not be final versions

there are two slots, one on top of the other, on the L440.  When inserting RAM you need to ensure that you initially position and insert the module at an angle of about 20░ to the slot and then push it down into place.  See p74 (pdf p80) of the Harware Maintenance Manual.

Hi guys, I have been suffring with this issue since a while. I did all what you can imagine to fix it and nothing workd. The problem that is my screen freezed while every time i install amd driver!"except amd catalyst 15.7 it install and work good with my notebook but i don't want it because it's old". so i connected with amd and they haven't fix this for me, i did clean install of amd and intel drivers and clean install of windows and nothing changed and the problem is contuniue.  what makes me confused is that i did all things to fix this and nothing worked as i said, but when i install amd catalyst driver. it works good. that's means the problem is a software problem not hardware. so are amd new drivers "above amd catalyst 15,7" are not Compatible  with my notebook's graphics card ? because i think lenovo dosent care about their customer, sorry about saying that but even intel graphics card driver that's realted to my notebook is not working and i can't even install it because there's a messages apears saying that's the driver not Compatible  with your graphics, despite that i have chosen the corect one, so i should go to intel website and download my intel driver. my information in case u need it:r7 265m amd seriesintel 4600 hd graphicswin 10 64 bitg510 lenovo notebookUEFI BIOS

I bought this model (Inspiron 15 DK6) from Newegg 2 months ago. Yesterday I broke the screen display somehow and I can now longer distinguish what's being displayed. What would be a compatible replacement screen for that model?

I wish to obtain definitive information about the internal composition of the trackpad for the L440 laptop given my allergy to wool felt. Does the trackpad use any felt cushioning or gaskets? I recently noticed what appears to be small particles of lint around the crevices of the trackpad, but before cleaning the periphery of the pad I wish to be certain that these particles are not from underlying felt material. I would hope to obtain an answer directly from Lenovo. Thank you.

Hello everyone, I replaced my screen on my L440, because it would not show any sign of being alive anymore (external monitor workds fine). I used this "opportunity" to upgrade it to full hd, also replaced the connecting cable.Nonetheless, my screen is still always dark - in Windows, as also for the bios or post screen (external works fine here).Depending in which panel I install, the old low res or ne full hd, the resolution on the external  monitor responses to that (clone mode). Thus I assume, the both cabels are fine, both panel are fine, the system recognizes them. But why is it still blank. Also tried to trigger closing the lid with a magnet (next to the webcam), only shutsdown then.Any ideas?!
