X1 carbon 6th 2018 HDMI doesn't work with all monitors (can't update BIOS)

Q: X1 carbon 6th 2018 HDMI doesn't work with all monitors (can't update BIOS)

So I've messed around with this my whole afternoon. What I've found out is that the X1C I just got will not notice my monitor (samsung px2370), however, it will notice my TV just fine.Figured I would try a BIOS update...well I already have Linux installed and the BIOS update options are "Windows" or "CD"...why...there is a CD/DVD option...in 2018...on a model that does not have a direct CD/DVD drive - is beyond me.I've tried copying the iso image with 'dd' and booting from it but that doesn't work.Suggestions?

Preferred Solution: X1 carbon 6th 2018 HDMI doesn't work with all monitors (can't update BIOS)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My old monitor has problems turning on, I can leave it on for 30hrs before it decides to display a picture, or I can manipulate it by unplugging the DVI cable from the back, but sometimes even that takes a few tries. It's off warranty and for reference it's a Samsung SyncMaster 226BW.

So I bought a new monitor and I have it plugged in using HDMI, but a problem I get is that when both monitors are plugged in the HDMI has no display until it gets to Windows, so I cannot see the boot process of my PC, because my old monitor as explained above has problems turning on.

Was a hindrance today when I was tinkering with my SSD and had to go to BIOS, and frankly I'd like to be able to see in case anything goes wrong, like a BSOD or Windows update etc.

So how do I get my HDMI monitor to give me a picture when the other monitor is plugged in. My new monitor is another Samsung, SyncMaster SA350.

A:Dual Monitors, HDMI monitor doesn't display BIOS

Short of something like this,

Newegg.com - BYTECC DVI-HM DVI Male to HDMI Female Cable Adaptor

not much as that is a function of the video card and nothing to do with Windows. The only way would be to try and edit the video card's bios so that the HDMI port is made to be the primary port when powering on.

Failing that if the old monitor is that bad, why use it? If the new is the only thing connected then it should display the bios screen when booting up.

I am so confused. Is my Lenovo 3000 N500 4233 63U HDMI compatible? Why it has the port, why the BIOS recommened/installed is NON-HDMI (version 1.10 BIOS 6GET19WW) and why it doesn't work when connected to any Tv with HDMI capability?  Should i downgrade to 1.09. I m running Windows 10 since July 2015 and ...this is another issue which probably will force mesoon to go back to Windows 7, the last update installed successful for windows 10 was Sep 2015; ever since, all the updates don't install, don't download sometimes, whatever adivse i followed, no windows update can be installed. Thank you so much Vera

For the first couple weeks I was able to run 3x 1080p monitors just fine using two display ports and an hdmi port. This morning when I docked my computer I could only get two to work. I can disable one then enable another and get all three working but only in sets of two.  I tested two of my coworkers laptops on my dock and all three monitors work fine. Also when I boot all three work until the Windows splash screen then one goes dark.  If I try to enable the third one: It acts like it's connected but the display remains dark and I lose my mouse cursor. I can stll move the mouse and see the hover overs but the cursor is gone.  I'm thinking this is a windows driver/firmware issue. In device manager I see all three:   But can't seem to get all three to work at once.  I've tried reinstalling both the Thunderbolt drivers and the display drivers with no luck. Any ideas? I'd like to avoid completely reinstalling Windows as I know that'll probably be a suggestion.

A few days ago I was prompted to install an urgent BIOS update.  I followed the screen prompts and the system rebooted and flashed the BIOS.  Our company laptops all have Sophos encryption, which requires a separate login prior to booting the OS (Win7).  I've always been able to enter user ID and password information on that screen using the USB keyboard connected to my OneLink+ dock (which is connected to the laptop). Following this BIOS update, I can no longer use the keyboard or mouse (also USB) connected to the OneLink+ dock until the OS boots.  I have to open my laptop, enter my Sophos ID and password on the laptop keyboard, then close the laptop.  Once the OS (Win7) boots, I can use both the USB devices fine.  Interestingly enough, the monitor attached to the OneLink+ dock functions just fine before the OS boots up. I checked BIOS settings and couldn't see anything there that looked odd or out of place.  I also checed Device Manager to see if there were any warnings or issues, and didn't see anything. I tried to downgrade the BIOS to an earlier version, but once you are above 1.23 that is not possible.  I did flash to the latest release - 1.27 - but that did not fix the issue. So I'm stuck with a rather awkward login process which was not an issue until this BIOS version was installed a few days ago.  I've reviewed other post for similar issues but have not found anything that points at a solution thus far... Computer will not boot into or past BIOS since BIOS update to FWKT86A  on 5/30/2018, unless dongel from Microsoft wireless key board and mouse is removed prior to start up. Hi there, would be grateful for any help on a problem that has me completely stumped.

I have an AJP 7321 laptop that was running Windows ME. I've recently upgraded to XP Pro. The upgrade didn't go entirely smoothly until I updated the BIOS (now R1.07 if that helps). Hey presto, XP Pro installs and runs like a dream. Except that since the BIOS update the laptop monitor is not working properly: when I power up I have a blank screen with flashing horizontal or vertical lines (sometimes both together). I've hooked up an external monitor, which is fine, and the laptop monitor 'flashing style' changes according to what I am doing, suggesting that it is receiving information and trying to do something with it.

Device manager says everything is working properly. I've updated the graphics card driver (S3 Twister K). And then I deleted all the programs I didn't need or could easily download again one day in case there were any conflicts. Oh, and ran a full virus check for good measure...

I've scoured the internet, spoken to AJP support and tweaked everything I can think of. I'm assuming that it probably isn't a graphics card problem since it all appears perfectly on the external monitor. Should I be tweaking something in the BIOS or a system folder? Any suggestions??

I bought my Satellite Z930 in August and installed 2GB extra RAM in it. Worked fine, the Ultrabook detected it and had total 6GB of RAM.
Yesterday I stopped ignoring these Toshiba Tempro messages and installed the suggested BIOS Update to Bios 2.20 (don't know which version it was before). Now I have several problems:

*First one*, my Ultrabook doesn't start anymore with the extra RAM. I press the power button, then the power LED starts blinking: 2 times yellow, 1 time orange in loop. The screen stays black and the CPU fan raises to maximum level..Only when I remove the extra RAM, then it starts.

*Second problem*, without my extra RAM it starts, but sometimes with the CPU fan at maximum level. So i have to restart that it stops.

*Third problem*, Windows only detects 2GB of RAM. I have now no extra RAM istalled, so it should detect 4GB of RAM, like when I bought it. Now there are only 2GB...

So is this what happens when I install suggested updates? -.-
So what can I do now? At least I want my preinstalled 4GB of RAm back. Is there any BIOS downgrade, or something similar to revert the changes?

A:Satellite Z930 - after BIOS Update, Extra RAM doesn't work anymore

OK, solved the problem. I found a BIOS downgrade to 2.1 at this page: http://www.blog-drivers.com/2012/07/toshiba-portege-z930-notebook-drivers.html
Now I have my 6GB back :)

As the title says, top right USB port on my T470 doesn't work after BIOS v1.42 update when device is plugged in on boot.  Non of devices power up when plugged into that port. Naturally there's nothing in dmesg. This is not OS-dependent since devices don't power up in BIOS screen as well. The other 2 ports still work as expected. Restarting doesn't help. After some cold boots the ports starts working again. This never happened with previous BIOS versions.

I have a situation where I need to switch between laptops regularly - a new X1 Carbon and a new MacBook Pro. I use the X1 Carbon a lot more. They're pretty pricey - so I'd hate to get the wrong one and be stuck with it.

In the beginning of March 2018, there was a critical BIOS update, which I ran... Prior to the update my system's CPU tempratures, while ideal, where very stable and around 55 degrees celsius. After the BIOS update my CPU temprature reads are all over the place. While ideal, the sensor can read 55c and instantly jump to 82c, back to 64c, upto over 90 degrees celsius and so on [you get the idea], with arbitrary temp reads, without any apparent reason...  Has anyone came across this issue?Should I be worried about this?Should I rollback to previus BIOS version? Hi all, I have the X1 Carbon 2016 (20FB) and it is running Windows 10 Enterprise. I have all the lastest Windows and Lenovo updates. It all works pretty well except when it comes to starting back from sleep mode. I have the laptop configured to go to sleep when I close the lid. However when I reopen the lid, the power button and keyboard lights come on but the display stays off. Opening and closing the several times doesn't help. The only way to get the display to turn on is to quickly press the power button. This puts the laptop to sleep. If I press the power button again the laptop comes back to life and the display works again. Anyone else have this issue? Any possible solutions? Thanks,Ian

Hi there.
I have no other ideas on this issue so im asking for your help.
I recently tried connecting my laptop to a tv to create a xternal display to share movies, tv, pictures with my family and recently moved away from VGA.  So I decided to use my HDMI cable that I usually use for my XBOX 360. Using my HDMI for my
xbox to tv works perfectly, but when I connect it to my laptop, it isn't displayed in the other displays option in Screen Resolution/Other display etc.  It workes sometimes and sometimes it does not.  I went to a radical step of connecting my xbox
to tv and immediately connecting the xbox end back to the pc and it surprisinly worked.  But now I cant get a signal out of it since.  It randomly connects and sometimes it wont work at all.

I've got a gateway DX4680 desktop, and a dell s2409w monitor.

What went wrong –
hdmi connection between computer and monitor stopped working about 35 days after getting the computer.
Had no problems with the hdmi connection between computer and monitor prior to that.
Worked completely fine.
What I’ve tried to fix it:
Replaced the hdmi cable – didn’t work
Got some adapters to test out the hdmi ports on both the computer and the monitor – ran from the hdmi port on the computer with a hdmi-to-dvi adapter into the dvi port on the monitor – that worked.
Used another computer that has a dvi output and with a dvi-to-hdmi adapter into the hdmi port on the monitor, that worked.
So it seems that the hdmi port works on the computer, and the hdmi port also works on the monitor, just can’t get it to work hdmi to hdmi again (it worked fine for about a month, so something has changed, apparently).
Also tried setting the computer to an earlier restore point (date prior to the problem starting) – didn’t work.  The problem started after a window's critical update, as best I can tell.  Thought if the update caused
the issue, then going back to an earlier restore point would resolve it, which it didn't
Also ran windows updates and installed all ... Read more

I just bought a new system and I am not very technical. My graphics card has DVI, HDMI, & VGA ports (no display port). The monitors have the same 3 ports, so I thought they would work, but it seems like the system will only recognize any 2 of the 3 monitors. I have been told that I either need display ports or active dongle adapters, which I don't understand. Is that true?

True, and you probably need both. One of the three must be on a Display Port connection either to a Display Port monitor (expensive) or a DVI monitor using the adapter. ATI's newer video cards labeled "Eyefinity" are what you're after.

A (somewhat) cheaper solution is to drop a second video card in there and run the third monitor off of that. If the third monitor is only for something requiring a 2D picture (as in, not a 3D-intensive game, etc) a very cheap second video card will do.

I have had my X1 yoga for just over a month now and I didn't test the hdmi port until now. To my dismay it doesn't work. It doesn't recognise displays and I have tried different cords and different displays so its not an external problem. I have also updated my drivers and even did a system restore and the hdmi port still won't output. It's most likely broken. What's my best course of action? Could I get a new X1 as the one I received is clearly defective and it's only been a month of usage. Who's to say more things won't break in the next few years?

Dear All, I just received and opened the IdeaCentre K450 today (Also to clarify, because I bought it in the UK, it is a UK version of K450). Have things sorted mostly, but only got one problem, which is the HDMI port. On the back of K450, there's a HDMI port. I assume that is the port from Mother board, not the discrete GTX 650 Graphic Card. I tried to connect it to my monitor's DVI port via a HDMI to DVI cable. The monitor sortof recieved signals from the PC within 1-2 seconds (but no display on screen at all. Reason I am saying the monitor kindof received signals is because the LED of the screen flashed from Yellow to Green, which indicates that it actually got some input). But then nothing happened. The DVI ports coming from the Graphic Card worked fine, though, but they are not the HDMI port. What I have done after that:1. Updated the NVIDIA drivier (Gefore GTX 650)2. Downloaded the Intel VGA Driver from Lenovo Support and tried to update the on-board video driver, but it failed and the system complianed this driver is not for the hardware. Though I update the NVIDA driver, it didn't solve the problem. Not quite sure what to do next. My guess is: The integrated video component on the mother board might not work properly? Because I noticed that the HDMI port as well as the VGA port didn't work at all, so I assumed that mother board driver doesn't work properly. But unfortunately the drived I downloaded from Levono didn't work on my P... Read more

A:K450 HDMI port doesn't work

hi tidus_chan,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I believe that the computer is working as designed
There are two places where Display may come from,
    A. Built in Graphics
    B. Expansion Cards

The original settings is that a computer will have no (B. Expansion Cards), (Only the A. Built in Graphics)
