I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a Toshiba Satellite  running windows 7. I got the computer from my father and had to remove a lot of malware and games. I wish i could do a factory reset but i do not have any of the factory disks. It seems like there are a lot of processes running and the physical memory is almost always at 100%. Any help would greatly be appreciated . Thanks in advance.

A:Toshiba laptop running super slow. physical memory running high

You can first try this:
http://www.howtogeek.com/74523/how-to-disable-startup-programs-in-windows/

Then you can try removing all the junk files on it using CCleaner or BleachBit or something similar. If that doesn't help, I would recommend dual booting this PC with Ubuntu 14.04. I actually published a tutorial on doing that here:
http://69.107.93.24/Blog/52015/

You could then use that as your primary OS.

Hi,
I have read the tutorial on combofix.exe and went through the process as stated on this site. The purpose for my running combofix is because I have been running at a constant 80% plus, usage of my physical memory and it is slowing down all of my applications and OS. I have windows 7 ultimate. My PC was running fine until just a few days ago and it just creeps along now.
When combofix.exe ran, it deleted one file. It deleted office.exe. The log is posted below. Can anyone help please?

Hallo,

I have an extremely slow Toshiba Satellite M45 laptop (about 3 years old) with Windows XP. Skype is installed, Bit Defender is my virus protection system. I use Mozilla Firefox mostly for internet, use Facebook quite a lot. I would like to know how to get this to start quicker and also basically to run quicker. I do have folders with small videos which I keep and also photos from this year and the last one. The notebook maximizer shows me that it has 48% physical memory free. Around 252 MB. 504MB RAM. Total Virtual memory 1229MB of which 675 MB available. My C Drive's capacity: 92.96 GB Free space: 45.14

Could it be I have too many things running at the same time but I really wouldn't know what. I've really no idea what info to give you. Thanks very much for any help or light anyone can give me.

Hi any help would be appreciated. my toshiba laptop is running very slow nowadays. its been like this for awhile. 6-7 months. i haven't been using it because i haven't had the need (i mainly use my home pc) but now i need it for school.
i looked up in my task manager and see the available physical memory is very low. about 65000 available, and 514096 total.
this problem started when i wasn't able to login with my administrator account 7 months ago when the problem happened. i receieved a message "windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporrary profile"so it loaded in safe mode and i've been unable to access that account since.

i've checked the start up programs list on this site to see if i can disable any programs i don't need but the problem is still there. does anybody know whats wrong?

I have not done anything in the past couple days for my computer to act like this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:physical memory useage - very slow computer

For future reference, you cannot just simply link to files straight from your computer. You must either attach them to your post (with the paperclip button) or upload them to an image hosting site like Image Shack and link to those.

If I'm reading what you said about your task manager, it states that your memory is being sucked up by an application of some sort, and it is resorting to using the pagefile for continued use. This looks to be a memory leak.

You can provide us more information by first running Autoruns. When it is open and it has loaded everything, save the file and attach it to your post and send it to us that way (you may need to zip/archive the file before you can attach it to your post). We will analyze is and see what we can do from there.

You may also want to provide us a JCGriff report as instructed here.

Lastly, nab Process Explorer and run it. It's essentially a beefed up task manager. Sort the Working Set column by clicking its header so that the arrow points downward. Then while running do your normal stuff. When it is running very, very slowly check the Process Explorer list and see which processes have large Working Set number (100,000+). Click one, then click File then Save As... and save the file. You should send the file to us for analysis, though anything with a Working Set that large or more is prolly the culprit.

Since I used to run morpheus I Have noticed connection get slower and slower. I have since removed morpheus and have ran Sybot S&D Adaware SE, PC sillin, registry mechanic and removed all the spyware that was possible. I still had a few programs that would not remove and I assumed that it was this that was causing the problem, namely, abetterinternet.Aurora and new.net. I googled these and was advised to try HJT which would be able to remove these programs.
The problem is that I don't have the slightest idea what is safe to remove from the scan. Running HJT does nothing - post the log and we'll see what is there

If you have XP or W2K do the following first

Download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ (W2K/XP Only)
· Install ewido.
· During the installation, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
· Launch ewido
· It will prompt you to update click the OK button and it will go to the main screen
· On the left side of the main screen click update
· Click on Start and let it update.
· DO NOT run a scan yet. You will do that later in safe mode.

Restart your computer into safe mode now. Perform the following steps in safe mode:

Run Ewido:
· Click on scanner
· Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
· During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
· When the scan is finished, look at the bottom of the screen and click the Save report button.
· Save the report to your C: Drive
This will take some time to run!
Boot to normal mode
Post that log and a new HiJack log – If the Ewido log is too large attach it.

Initially I had only 1 gb ram. I added 2 gb so now I have a total of 3gb physical ram

My laptop is a c793tu HP Compaq presario

The original OS is supposedly windows vista but I upgraded to 7 ultimate. Aside from the card reader not working, everything is okay.

In order to handle the new OS, I installed 2 gb ram.

I thought that it would be faster but sometimes my laptop is slow. Especially when opening flash or using chrome and firefox together.

Below are some screenshots for information. I have tried killing some processes but cannot find one process that is a major problem. 52 Processes are currently running which doesnt seem so excessive. Is it normal to have so much memory reserved for hardware? If there is anymore information I need to post please let me know, I appreciate any help I can get.

I notice a high memory usage of svchost.exe which can be up to 300 000k...........could this be the problem?

7 days ago it was infected by a Trojan Horse named Generic31.apje. I followed the path named and deleted the file from c:\ProgramData\browsermanager....................after doing this I completed a scan and the results where that the machine was clean. Could this still be an issue?

Hello,

I'm a newbie trying to fix a friends computer. She just bought it used and it was working fine until she downloaded something that she thought would allow her to watch TV on her computer. I tried a few things listed below, but didn't solve the issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'll continue to look online for troubleshooting info. I'll post if I find it.

Problem: Very Slow, High Physical Memory % (80's to 90's) and CPU Usage (mostly 3-10%, but occasionally 100%). NOTE: The computer runs fine for few minutes after first turned on, then has the aforementioned issues a few minutes after.

I Tried: Used Malwarebytes - I attached the log - and it found some things (My Web Search files) which I had it delete. I also used MSConfi to turn off unnecessary start up stuff.

Computer:
Compaq Presario CQ62, Windows 7 Home Premium x64, Celeron 2.2Ghz, 2 GB RAM, Avast Antivirus.

Thank you.

My PC has started running really slow from time to time and crashing when I try to do simple tasks. I keep getting this pop up. (screenshot below) It is not all the time but has started getting more and more frequent.

I get it when just using one program at a time and sometime even when it is sitting idle. I have ran Malwarebytes and other antivirus/malware software and there seems to be no infection. I only have Eset installed and running so its not loads of antivirus trying to compete or hogging the RAM.

I have closed unnecessary apps and programs and I still have the same problem. There is 3GB of DDR3 (1x1GB + 1x2GB sticks) installed. Could one of these be failing?

Is there a way to check the RAM, like a disc check, using CMD. I have seem an app online called "memtest86" but not sure if this is OK or good to use. Can anyone help please and suggesting a fix or solution.

I have also attached a sreen shot of CPUz and the task manager. The screen shot is taken as I make this thread with nothing else open only Firefox, Snipping tool. It seems to run about that all the time now, even when sitting idle.

Any one got any ideas?

Thanks

Ok, for the past few weeks, I had been getting a message that said a resource was missing, but I stupidly never wrote down what specifically was gone. It said that it could not open the Dell Dock because of it and windows explorer was running slow at times and restarting periodically. It did this for about three weeks, then, two nights ago, the computer froze, so I reset it, and it started on the green bar then black screen loop.

I tried running it in safe mode, no dice, and all other alternate boot options. It would hang up each time. Finally, I was able to get the system restore wizard up, this was earlier today, and reset the system to how it was 4 days ago. It actually opened Vista, but in low res mode and everything is painfully slow, except for the internet, which runs at normalish speeds.

Are there any possible causes or solutions for this?

I have a Dell Inspiron 530, and Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit.

Hey, as mentioned in the title, the amount of RAM my laptop was using has suddenly shot up from around 10% up to 50%-60%.

This causes massive problems as one of the music software programmes i use for my work generally uses around 40% of the RAM to run, now before; this was fine, but as the memory now is so high when I run the programme the used RAM is over 90% and the latency goes through the roof which makes it impossible to run.

I did some digging on the internet and saw its a good idea to run the Resource Manager programme to check what is taking up all the memory all of a sudden.
The top file is a file named svchost.exe (LocalSystemNetworkRestricted), and there are others on there all named svchost.exe. apparently some think this is some sort a virus and seems to be a solved by going into the task manager and finding what services this process is running and shut them off, but the problem is that this process doesnt appear on the Task Manager, only on the Recourse Manager.

So basically if it is this file/process which is causing the problem I really need help getting rid of it. Iv checked for viruses using Kaspersky and Malwarebytes.
Iv also performed the Ccleaner.
The specs of my laptop are:

Toshiba satallite C650-152
around 300gb Harddrive
3GB ram
Intel i3 processor, around 2.3 GHz

Any help would be very much appreciated

I have installed windows vista rc1 and it is running very slow I have two partitions C/D on a sata hard drive on c i have windows xp pro which is running fine and i installed vista 32 bit on D. When i boot into vista it is really slow, the computer has a dual core 3.4 GHZ processor, and one Gig off ram. Is it to do with the graphics card it is a nivdia x300?

A:Windows vista rc1 running very slow

It might have to do with the graphics card that you have, seeing as the other components in your computer are 100 percent OK with Vista's requirements. You should try to switch off all the fancy effects in Vista and see if that brings your performance up or not.

Help, my physical memory is at 97% all of a sudden and causing major lag in games. Nothing in the task manager is using that much memory so I don't know what's causing it. I have Windows 8.1 with 8 gigs.

Edit: I tried to restart and there is one app that isn't closing and preventing it from restarting. It doesn't tell me what the app is called. How do I find out what program that is?

A:Physical Memory Full

Did to computer eventually restart, did you not have the option to go back to close the app and what were the last things you were doing when you decided to reboot? I had a similar problem on closing but it went away by itself.

A:Slow start up and running very very slow

You have a lot of processes running there, especially from "Shaw"; it might be necessary to uninstall their load of stuff and rely instead on the basics such as the Windows firewall and AVG antivirus.

But for now, can you answer these questions?

0 > when did the problem seem to be begin?
1 > is it very slow to boot up?
2 > do programs open slowly?
3 > does the same behavior occur both on and off the internet. Or with no connection at all?
4 > does it matter how long the system has been on, and does a restart improve things?

Slow performance issues can often be due to overheating, so if the system is faster after it has been shutdown for a while and then restarted -- that would be especially suspect. To check for possible problems here, shutdown, open the case and blow out any accumulated dust. Then turn it
on and check to see that the fan is working. Sometimes it helps to physically clean the fan.

If a laptop, check to see that the vent is clear of dust and verify the fan is working. Temps and fan speed can usually be monitored with SpeedFan (except on Dell desktops), a free utility.

5 > if you do a ctrl-alt-del, do any processes show excess cpu usage, other than System Idle Process?

6 > If you open the Device Manager (run devmgmt.msc) and select the entry for IDE ATA/Atapi and select the Primary IDE > Advanced Settings, does it say the "current transfer mode" is DMA or PIO?

If it says PIO, first ensure "Use DMA if Ava... Read more

Guys

Thanks for all you’re doing. Hope you can help my problem – I’ve checked other posts but no two addressing slow start and slow running seem to be the same.

My problems are a very long boot up (go away and make a coffee length) and also slow running, especially in opening progs for the first time – ie, very slow to open Word initially, then much faster opening subsequent Word files. Even so, the laptop has slowed considerably and is often hesitant.

I’m running:

Windows XP Media Center Edition version 2002
Service Pack 3
HP
Intel® Core™ CPU
T5200 @ 1.60Ghz
798 MHz 0.99 GB of RAM

I run and keep up to date:

AVG 7.5
Spyware Doctor

Have run Malwarebyte’s anti-malware – all clear.

I know over-heating can slow things down, but I am sure this is not happening.

When I open the Device Manager and select the entry for IDE ATA/Atapi and select the Primary IDE > Advanced Settings, the "current transfer mode" I see Multi word DM Mode 2

Hi,
I'm having quite a few issues with my computer and just don't know enough to know what to do or where to start with what the root problem(s) are...or if this is even the right board to post to! I just want my computer to a point where it runs well again and to keep it that way.

Here's some info about my computer. I hope it's helpful to start with:
Windows Vista
Dell Vostro VOSTRO_200
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E7200 @2.53 GHz
3 GB RAM
32-bit Operating System

Here are the biggest issues lately:

1. On startup, the fan runs really hard and fast...almost like an engine revving up. It also does it if the computer has gone to sleep after inactivity. If the screen is left on, the computer will wake itself back up after a period of time and the fan will rev like it does on startup. This doesn't seem like a good thing...but I have no clue what to do.

2. Recently, I've been deleting old photos and files that aren't needed and using Slim Cleaner+ to clean up my computer to help it run better. Today, something happened after I did a run with the program and I started getting messages every time I navigated to a new page in firefox that said Adobe Flash 11.8 r800 (or something like it) has stopped working. I updated my firefox and went to reboot my system...and it didn't want to reboot. I had to hit ctl/alt/del to get to the option to go to boot system and managed to get my computer going that way.

3. I'm not sure if this is an internet problem or a computer problem...our browser h... Read more

I recently upgraded my Windows 7 laptop from 4GB of physical memory to 8 GB. The Bios immediately recognized the added memory but it appears the Task Manager physical memory has not changed and only recognizes ~3.5 GB of available memory. Is there a way
to have Task Manager recognize the added memory? Is the fact that the Task Manager does not recognize the added memory mean other functions are not recognizing the added memory?

When starting Vista up each time It is so slow to start takes forever ... and I don`t know how to stop all the programs starting up when I start it to make it go faster .. also another problem is I received this computer from a dear friend of mine but I cannot change the user name from hers to mine ,,, is there a way to do it as she is the admin and also the owner of all the files I do .. and thirdly I need to find a way that the avast is recognised , the computer still says no anti virus is installed when I have a paid avast one on here.. hoping this is not too big a task to ask on one post or too many questions at once.. thanks for any advice you can give me ..

A:Windows Vista start up slow?

You can change which programs start and which ones don't by going to the start menu and typing MSCONFIG then hitting enter.

Then a menu will appear and click the startup tab. You can now tick or untick programs that will start when the PC starts. Be careful not to untick any drivers.

As for changing your PC name:

To open User Accounts, click the Start button , click Control Panel, click User Accounts and Family Safety, click User Accounts, and then click Change your account name. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Type the new name, and then click Change Name.
Finally, to get Windows Vista to see the AV I would recommend you just reinstall it.

hi, i have had help here before and seem to need it again. My problem is not with any pop-ups or malware it seems, but my computer is running VERY slow. It has only been in the past month or so that it has been running slow. Mainly it is Internet Explorer that is very slow. Other processes are slow, but not nearly as slow. Please let me know what other information will help.

I have an IBM T43 laptop with Windows XP Pro.
-Version 2002, Service Pack 2.
-Intel Pentium M Processor 2.00 GHz, 798 MHZ, 1.00 GB RAM (came with 512, I added a 512 stick myself). I have many programs on the computer, too many to list. (As an aside, Adobe Acrobat does not work anymore either and I cannot figure out how to remove it for the life of me. If I open a PDF with IE or Mozilla, it freezes both. Also, when opening a pdf with adobe, it appears in Arabic/computer language. Just on case this makes any difference.)

I have MacAfee antivirus and it has ben detecting a few viruses here lately. Most recently was today, it was an Exploit-MS06-014 Trojan running through explorer.exe.

Also, I have all the file logs available of my MacAfee scans, if needed. I will paste my most recent HiJackThis log.

Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.0 (BETA)
Scan saved at 10:28:55 AM, on 5/30/2008
Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)

Hope someone can help...not that have much doubt with the talent in here

Here's a synopsis of the problems we're having on this computer:

This is a photographer's computer...she has LOTS of pic files - mostly tiff's, jpg's, raw images. She does have a backup that supposed to automatically back up everything....as I start looking at this computer, I'm not sure that's even working correctly...that's where I'm starting - basically square ZERO. That being said, I can follow instructions and would very much appreciate any feedback or help you can give us.

Below you'll find the Sysinfo and to help speed the process up I've attached the first hijack this log to this message

Hey guys, recently my laptop has been running a bit slow despite being on full signal strength, it isnt even that far from the router, ive tried resetting the router but i dont think its the cause because my pc connected via ethernet is still running at max speed it normally reaches. Even when the pc is turned off the laptop is still slow, im wondering if anyone has any ideas.

There are some router settings that will allow your 802.11n devices to run at full wireless N speeds but you need to use the 802.11n Only setting in your routers wireless set up page. The only draw back is that your legacy devices running wireless G or below won't be able to connect any more.

This setting will allow you to connect at full 802.11n speeds, the mixed settings would have you maxed out at 54Mbps where full speed can be up to 450Mbps for wireless N.

Hi everyone, I'm looking for some advice with the day-to-day running of my laptop, now nicknamed the Craptop.

It is quite a dated model now, Acer Aspire 5735, running Windows Vista Home Basic SP2. It used to be pretty speedy when it came to YouTube videos and other media, but it is now pretty awful, with videos constantly stop-starting and jumping.

The whole system seems to run a whole lot slower than it used to, what sort of things should I be trying/looking for?

Any help appreciated
