Inspiron 3847 desktop, Audio sounding like a robot

Q: Inspiron 3847 desktop, Audio sounding like a robot

Good Evening All,
I have a Inspiron 3847 desktop and a couple of days ago the computer started to sound like a robot, i.e slow and breaking up. To my knowledge all of the software is up to date. The problem is fixed when I restart the computer. Anyone have a fix for this problem?

Preferred Solution: Inspiron 3847 desktop, Audio sounding like a robot

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You said the issue fixes itself on reboot. So what software and applications are you running and how long is your usage before the audio issue shows up again?

My problem started one night a few months ago, when watching a film from my pc on to my tv, everything was going ok then it started to freeze for a second or two with the audio sounding like a robot then continue playing ok and would start repeating it every so often, so, i tested all my hard drives with DSKCHK, no problems, did a check with seagate disk test all ok, did a memtest all ok, did a graphics stress test all ok, then one night i was going through some audio tracks and the robot sound appeared on them, so i thought that rules out graphics side, i even swapped from motherboard audio to a soundblaster card and did it on both, i deleted MPC to VLC same on both, i even did a windows xp repair, still happening, i even found a asus motherboard test but nothing on that, all drivers up to date, i recorded on my cycle cam which replicates the problem, and can be found here http://vid1177.photobucket.com/albums/x348/andsaw/PC Audio/23090002.mp4 its at the 40second mark, you will have to turn your volume up high as the cams mic is not brilliant, can anyone identify whats going and how i can sort it, any other info required please ask.

A:Audio Freezing Sounding Like A Robot

Hi there

The problem is definitely a software one, because you said you tried another sound card and the problem persists.
The problem is most likely coming from your codecs/filters.

If you have codecs installed, uninstall them and try playing again.
Still not working, uninstall all media players. Re install VLC and try again.

Last ting I can think of is that you download and install XP codec pack.
Just Google it, you will find it.

Hope this helps

The computer is new, came with Windows 8.1, but does not have sound since it was taken out of the box.I re-installed the Realtek audio card drivers, but there is no sound. The CPU connects to the Dell 24 Monitor - S2440L monitor via VGA cable.Checking in the sounds option in Control panel shows external speakers are needed.  I see there is a message in sound icon in bottom right that no speakers or headphones are plugged in.Glanced at the Dell manual at ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products-Infodev/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_inspiron_desktop/inspiron-3847-desktop_Owner%27s%20Manual_en-us.pdfand from page 11, it appears that they have a front panel audio connectorRan the Windows troubleshooter which also did not help.In Device manager, I see Bluetooth Audio device, Intel Display audio, Realtek High Definition Audio all of which have the right drivers. Dell support thinks if I change the OS to Windows 7, I can get sound, but I have to buy the Windows 7 OSI thought most PCs today come with an integrated sound card and external speakers are additional. What could be causing the lack of audio? The volume is not set to mute.

A:Inspiron 3847, no audio, Windows 8.1

I went to the REALTEK website and downloaded a new driver yesterday.
It seems to be working.

Is Inspiron Desktop (3847, Early 2013) compatible to NVIDIA GTX 660 2GB?

A:Inspiron Desktop 3847, GPU upgrade to GTX 660?

450W is too low.  PC's are not a single 12v power supply.  You need an EPS12v 2.92 certified supply that can provide 170W on the 3.3v/5v side and 15 to 20W on the 5VSB rail in addition to 450W on the 12v rails.
This is why a Corsair CS750M is the MINIMUM recommended.
The other issue is Card Length.
You cannot use 10 to 12 inch long cards as they will not physically go into the case.  This unit is using an Antec Earth Watts 650W power supply.  The card in this case is 8 inches long.

I purchased the above computer a year and a half ago.  It cost $500.00 but I don't get a little window in the lower right corner of my desktop.  It is a windows 8.1 and seems to be running fine but when I try to install KB2919355 I get an error.  Obviously all I am doing is trying to qualify for windows 10.  Does anyone have any idea what the error is all about and why I can't qualify for a upgrade to win10.Thanks in advance.   - Missouri Tiger

I am pretty sure this is a hardware issue. The front headphone jack only produces sound from the left channel, right channel is completely dead. The rear audio out works perfectly, audio out via usb works perfectly. Any headphones I plug in to the front jack only produces sound in the left channel only and I've tried multiple headphones.
I've removed the front face and wiggled all the connections even unplugged and reconnected the cables on the motherboard hoping it was just a loose connection but no improvement.
My Dell is still under warranty but I'd hate to be without it for any time is there any chance of having the offending part mailed to me so I can replace it myself? Any tips are appreciated.

A:Inspiron 3847's front audio has a dead right channel?

If you only purchased the 1 year Limited Hardware warranty, then mail in is the only option after you have troubleshot with Dell Technical Support. If you purchased the 1 to 4 year Premium Support warranty, then onsite service is available after you troubleshoot the issue with Dell Technical Support. While on with them, you could ask if they can setup a "parts only service" once they have verified which parts are defective.

I followed the instructions by Dell for my Inspiron 3847 reinstalling Windows 10 using USB media. I put in my media that I created in the USB port before I restarted my computer.
It says: On the boot menu under UEFI boot, to select the media type (USB or DVD), but that was not an option. The list said: BIOS set up, Diagnostics, or change boot mode settings. I wasn't sure where to go from there.

Hello Everyone,
I purchased a Dell Inspiron 3847 desktop in Jan 2015, all was good until the hard drive died and was replaced, then the optical drive started making a funny noise and Dell sent me a replacement, now the whole system sounds pretty loud in operation and i have always found it to be a pretty quite runner usually,
Ive had the side cover off and honestly find it hard to know exactly where the louder sound is coming from, all i can tell you is it's a constant kind of deep sounding hummmmmmmmmm that starts around 10mins after the system is switched on ,and appears to be towards the back of the unit. I recently swapped out the stock 300w power supply for a corsair CX 500W and it sounds really sweet, so i doubt it's that,
Pressing lightly on parts of the case toward the back, either alters the tone of the hum or sometimes stops it all together for a few moments,
Currently i have it sat on the floor by the side of my desk, but it's not directly on the carpet, it's sat on a hard shelf that i had cut to size. The funny thing is, when i unplugged it and took it down to my kitchen, i took the side panel off so i could listen, and it sounded really quite stood on my counter top?. Its also had a good clean with compressed air, though it wasn't very dusty inside to begin with,
I have a low threshhold when it comes to pc loudness to start with, and this is driving me nuts because it wasn't this audible before,

Anyone have any ideas what could be causing... Read more

I have a Inspiron 3847 desktop PC.  It came with a front panel with two USB 2 ports, earphone jack, mic jack, and card reader slot.  All of the USB 3 ports are on the rear of the case.  I would like to have a front panel with USB 3 ports.  There is one empty bay in the front of the case between the DVD drive and the existing USB 2 panel.  What would be the easiest way to install USB 3 ports in this empty bay?
I have seen USB 3 cards that install in the MB some of which have an internal socket that might feed such a front panel.  Would this work?  What type of front panel assembly would I need to fit the existing bay?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi Everyone,
I have a Dell Inspiron 3847 desktop purchased January 2015,
It used to run really quietly, but recently it's sounding louder during operation,
I've had the side panel off a number of times, but couldn't pin point what exactly was responsible, but once the side panel is replaced, and the PC is placed back in it's usual location, the sound is there and it sounds like one of the fans,
It had been suggested to me, to place the PC on a softer surface, as it could be just down to resonating. I've stood it directly on my floor in my office, but the sound is still there, a varied hummmmmmm sound which on further listening, seems to be the chassis fan,
My question is, where can i purchase a new replacement chassis fan (the one on the back)?, also , if it turns out to be the CPU fan, can I replace just the fan without disturbing the heatsink, thermal paste and processor?,
I also need advice where I can purchase a replacement CPU fan?, it's an Intel core i5 4460, 4th Gen,
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thank You,
Mr Anthony

Hi Everyone,
I apologise if this has been asked previously, but i wasn't 100% clear in the other answers to this,
I have a Dell Inspiron 3847 desktop (not slim), purchased in Jan 2015. It has an intel core i5 4460 cpu and an INVIDIA Geforce GT 705 graphic card, 16gig DDR3 ram,
It has always run very quite, but just recently (within the last couple of weeks) i have noticed it making more sound then normal, it's soft but a constant high pitched sound which appears to be coming from the stock 300w psu,
If i wanted to change the psu, what make and model would be compatable?, sorry, but i am not really savy with voltages and figures etc, that is why i have asked purely for a make and model number that has been used in this model before, and would work,
From what i have read on this forum, a few people seem to have had issues with the stock psu after a period of time. Any recommendations would be greatfully appreciated, especially from users of the Inspiron that have upgraded their psu,

Thanks Again,
Mr Anthony

Firstly, I should say I have no idea about any of the workings inside my computer so all help is gratefully received.
Today I noticed a flashing orange light at the back of my desktop tower. Now it might have been there since day one but I imagine I would have noticed it before as the tower is on my desk...
The light is just above the area where the modem cable plugs in. Inside the computer (and here I show my lack of tech knowledge) there seems to be a small box like structure on the motherboard in the area the modem cable plugs into and I can see the light flashing from that. There is a constant orange glow just above it (also emanating from around that box area). The area does not feel hot. Fans are working.
I have turned it on and off and have unplugged the modem cable and plugged it back in but the light continues to flash.
The tower did fall over onto its side about three weeks ago (on a flat surface so not far and it was switched off at the time) but it has worked fine since.
Mountain out of a molehill? Or serious issue?

Hi everyone,
I am brand new on the forum and I have signed up specifically because I am having some problems with the Samsung SSD drive in my Dell Inspiron 3847 desktop,
At the moment I have it connected to sata port 0, exactly where the original HDD was plugged in. Although I am able to boot straight to Windows on the SSD with this configuration, I am unable to choose it as my primary boot drive because it is not showing in the boot menu, in a nutshell it is not listed in the bootable devices when I enter BIOS,
I spent around half an hour talking to a Dell technician on the telephone who walked me through some steps in the bios, but it still didn't show,
I contacted Dell support again today and spoke to a rather rude Guy in technical support who told me he could not help me with this, because the Inspiron 3847 has not been tested by Dell for SSD compatibility, he was most adamant that he could not help,
I am very frustrated by this whole affair because I have read articles, on this particular Forum in fact that suggests it is possible to install an SSD in this model,
Is there anybody within the community you can offer some support and tell me where I might be going wrong with this?, in its current configuration the SSD is working really great and fast, I'm just so confused as to why I can't use it as my primary drive?. I have formatted my original HDD and was planning to use this as extra storage,
If someone could help me with this I would be really grateful,

I have a self-assembled desktop PC - full specs in the signature below, but in short, it has an AMD Phenom II X6 1090T processor on a Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P mainboard, which uses a Realtek Azalia ALC887 on-board sound system. I have no loudspeakers and listen to the computer sound exclusively through a Microsoft LX-1000 headset. I also have a Logitech C270 HD webcam that has its own microphone. My PC has 16 GB RAM, a SSD and a large HDD. It runs Windows 8.1 Update 1 with all Windows updates (Patch Tuesday was this week, but my problems had started before that and I'm sure they're unrelated).

Everything is working fine, except the audio, which started behaving strangely a few days ago. The problems started suddenly and I can't think of anything that could have caused them. There were no hardware changes or any intervention in the hardware, nor did I install any new software that could have messed up things.

When playing music, it sounds muffled, with the volume very low and the voice and several instruments muted, while other instruments in the background arrangement sound louder. No graphic equalizer is on, and this happens with any player software (Windows Media Player, VLC, Media Player Classic, etc.), and any source (MP3 music, audio CDs, DVDs, videos, etc.). There appears to be no hardware problem with either my headset or the onboard audio: when I run both Windows' native and Realtek's driver sound output tests, the test tune comes out loud and clear in the tested chann... A:Realtek audio, Gigabyte mobo: strange-sounding audio, mic not working

First thing to do is disable or disconnect the Web Cam. They have been known to cause various sound problems. It may not be the problem, but eliminate it as the problem.

Stereo Mix needs to be set as the Default Recording Device.

Refresh the RealTek by going to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the RealTek entry in the Sound section then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will reinstall the sound. This usually fixes any Windows/Sound corruptions. If this does not fix it, download and reinstall the RealTek sound drivers.

Hello, I have a Sony Vaio laptop and recently whenever I use YouTube, Spotify, Netflix, stream or play audio/visual content anywhere the sound freezes and makes a robot noise constantly.

I am a dummy with computers and technical stuff but from what I have read on the web regarding this matter it could have been something to do with drivers, too much stuff on the hard drive, flash and/or java needing updating etc..

I have done all of these things (I think) and it still hasn't done anything! Could someone plleeassee advise me what I need to do to sort this out.

Also, my fan is very hot and sounds like a vacuum cleaner (I have tried cleaning it, I think I need a new fan) but could this be affecting anything?

Thanks all

edit: I use latest internet explorer, and sometimes chrome but it is the same on both of the browsers, and besides it happens with spotify which is downloaded?

A:Audio sounds like a robot on everything, please help!!

It does sound like something having to do with your sound card drivers. I would go into the device manager which is in the system tab of the control panel and completely uninstall the sound card and any other related components; reboot; then let windows hopefully re-detect and reinstall the sound card and its associated drivers. If you need more info on anything just ask.

Hey everybody. Got a really odd problem...

So, my computer has recently been fixed. (Networking card problem..long story)

I receive the computer , and a fresh new version of XP is on it with nothing else but drivers.

I load my backed-up music, and start to play it.
At the low parts (heavy metal by the way) or simply in just random spots the audio seems to fade in and out, almost like the balance is changing to a non-existent speaker.

It is a Sigma-tel audio driver, and I have tried turning the speakers off and unplugging the cable. Also had a look to see if there was some sort of Sigma-tel audio studio included with the driver, and there wasn't. And I checked my balance levels in the volume control panel.
No luck.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance, any help is appreciated.

A:Audio Sounding Quite Strange

Try to isolate the problem first, if you have a headset, use it, if the problem persist then could be some audio driver issues. Download the latest driver for your audio.

My cousin and I were watching videos on Youtube on the highest volume (I also have really terrible speakers) and when we paused it, it would make this really high pitched screeching. No joke. Our ears hurt because the frequency was /way/ too high.
Then sometimes, the sound wouldn't work at all. I looked it up online and got: Check your sound -_- Like that's not the first thing someone would do.
And yet another problem that happens. Echoing audio. (if you've played online or used a phone and you hear the echoing of your own voice. Except it's not mine. It's the video's.). This is actually a constant problem if I have the volume on its highest then when I pause it, it'll make that high pitched screeching.
This is my second post. I'm sorry if I can't really get into detail much.

A:My Audio is really weird sounding

Our ears hurt because the frequency was /way/ too high.

Frequency too high? Are you canines? It hurt your ears because the SPL (sound pressure level - volume) was too high. Unless really durable headphones, it takes special speakers to reproduce high frequencies (above 20,000Hz) audio at high enough volumes to cause pain - and that would be very bad as ear damage is cumulative - that is, every time you subject your ears to high SPLs from music, jet noise, etc., some damage occurs and that damage builds and builds resulting in hearing loss as you age at much faster rate than those ears that were not subjected to such high SPLs.

Also, note your ears can handle very loud "clean" music much better than loud "distorted" music coming from overdriven speakers.

So if you plan on living beyond 60 or so, take care of your ears now.

You told us nothing about the computer. PC or notebook? Brand and model? Version of Windows? Browser?

Do other sounds work normally? What if you play a MP3 tune (at normal volumes)?

I installed a second hard drive in my Inspiron 3847.  I then used Acronis True Image to clone my C drive to the newly installed hard drive.  This would be my backup.  Now I would like to test whether this second drive is complete and bootable, so I want to change the boot device to the second drive.  I would go into computer setup and move to the "boot" screen.  From there, it is not obvious as to what to do.  I see an enter that is listed as "boot manager".  How do I get to the proper screens to identify and designate which drive should be the boot drive?   Any help would be appreciated.

A:Inspiron 3847

The bios is not a boot selector/manager.  Windows is not Linux/ DOS/ Grub bootloader and the BCD cannot be moved to 2nd or 3rd drive when its supposed to be on sata port 0.  You have to remove the old drive and put the cloned drive in its place to see if it boots.  Early versions of Acronis DO NOT WORK with windows 8 or 10.

I would be careful wtih the "cheap" part - with power supplies, "cheap" and "reliable" are mutually exclusive.  Anything under about $60-75US for a 400W+ power supply cuts corners somewhere.

A:PSU upgrade for Inspiron 3847

The EVGA 430W unit has LESS POWER than the Dell 305W unit.
The 450B1 only has 120W on this railset.

POWER Supplies are not a single rating of watts with 1 Rail.
You must have Combined 150W on the 3.3v/5v rails and 25 Amps on each of those rails.
The EVGA NEX 750B1 has this the B2 and G2 models do not.

Really would like to get an opinion before spending $99 on a GPU and it not work. Or if there's another option, that'll help with performance when playing games is much appreciated.

With my kids finally starting school and becoming (moderately!) independent, I suddenly have something I haven't had in ages: time to play games on my PC!But I haven't played any in years, so I could really use some advice...!I've been looking at the GTX 1060 3GB and the RX 480. Both look like they would work despite the space limitations inside the 3847. But I had a few questions:1) The RX 480 seems inferior in terms of performance, and yet I’ve read it has better longevity. If I plan to use my new card for about 5 years before upgrading, will I see a drop in performance over time?2) I confess a great deal of ignorance on this subject, but I've read something about compatibility concerns with these cards and my PC's motherboard (and the number of pins/slots on the board?). Would either of these cards not work with my motherboard?3) Could anyone be so kind as to recommend a PSU? I don't have any accessories or peripherals installed (and don't plan on adding any), so the power draw I think would be pretty minimal (aside from the GPU). I am happy to spend the money to get a quality PSU, but would prefer to avoid spending money on an unnecessarily powerful PSU.4) Lastly, newegg has tons of vendors who make the GTX 1060 3GB but I know nothing about any of them. I have heard that some vendors sell 'watered down' versions of the cards, but I don't know how accurate that is. Between EVGA, ZOTAC, GIGABYTE, MSI, PNY and... Read more

I just purchased 4 Inspiron 3847's with Windows 7 64bit for my office and they are all having the sane USB issue.
When a scanner or printer connected via USB goes to sleep, the machine will not recognize the device and wake it up. The only way to get it to see the device is to turn the device off and then back on.
I've tried plugging them into different ports and tried updating the USB drivers from the Dell site and neither worked.
If I cannot get this resolved quickly, I am going to have to return them all. This is unusable in our office environment.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

A:Inspiron 3847 USB issues

Open Device Manager and expand list under USB.
Double-click a USB root hub and then click its Power Management tab. UNcheck the box "Allow PC to turn off...". Repeat for all USB root hubs.
Exit Device Manager and open the Windows Power options screen. Select the current power plan and click the link to change settings. On next screen, click the Advanced options link. Look for USB in the list at left and DISable USB Selective Suspend. Be sure to save the change before leaving the power plan.
Reboot and see if that helps...

I am new to this forum and not very knowledgeable on tech things!  I have googled and run through the things I'm supposed to do or look at to diagnose the problem as best I can but to no avail.
I have a Inspiron 3847 which is on Windows 10 (upgrade) with an Intel Pentium CPU G3240  3.10GHZ  and 4GB RAM.
In the last months when shutting down my computer on at least half a dozen occasions it just won't power off. The monitor goes into sleep mode but the fan and disk drive are still whirring for minutes and I have to force it to shut down by holding down the power button.
I have looked at the event log and aside from critical errors resulting from my forced shutdowns I have a couple of Kernel-EventTracing  errors (ID 2 and 3) at around the time I tried to shut down.
Windows is up to date. All drivers and the BIOS is up to date. I ran the Del full system test and everything is fine.
Can anyone offer any suggestions please.
Thanks RXC

?Do I need to upgrade my Power Supply? I have an Inspiron-3847 ServiceTag-<ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy>ExpreesServiveCode-<ADMIN NOTE: Express service code removed per privacy policy> ( i3-4130[email protected] with 8GB-ram ) and I want to add a graphics card GeForce GTX 750 Ti ( PNY VCGGTX750T2XPB-OC ) the specs for the graphics card says that I need a minimum of 400 Watt PSU, I think that is what the PC already has. ?Do I need to upgrade my Power Supply?

A:GeForce-GTX-750-Ti into Inspiron-3847 ok ?

I upgraded my 3847 with a GTX 750ti by Evga and its fine. The power supply is 300watts. On the box tho it will say 400w is used for a intel I7 computer but intel i3 uses less power so you re good.

So I own a Dell Inspiron 3847 with the i7-4790 cpu, 8 gb of ram and if there's any other info you want, ill post it for you. So basically I want to install aMSI Radeon RX 480 4gb into the system. Now i recently learned that the computer uses some sort of Dell motherboard or something (not really sure)? I just wanted confirmation on whether or not I could install the RX 480 into my system. Thank you!

A:RX 480 in Dell Inspiron 3847

What size PSU does the 3847 have? MSI indicates a 500W PSU with 8-pin power connector for their Radeon RX 480 4GB GAMING X Video Card.
The card is ~10.9" x 5.5" x 1.7".  So is there's enough space for it, especially the length?

I've done a lot of browsing and research on what upgrades I can do to my Dell Inspiron 3847 desktop.
I would like to upgrade the CPU to a i5.
I would like to install a dedicated graphics card. Would like to get something with at least 4GB memory. I've  been told with the stock case and limited space that cards under 10' are a must
With the above two mentioned upgrades I will also need a upgraded power-supply. so which PSU will be sufficient ?
I would also like to upgrade the ram to 16GB(8GBx2) which would be max.
The intent here is to run X-plane which is a flight sim.
Current Specs:
Inspiron 3847
intel i3 4150 @3.50GHz
Haswell 22nm Technology
8.00Gb dual channel DDR3
088DT1 mobo
HD Graphics 4400
Bios A04

Any guidance would be appreciated.

You cant Add Long cards.  Short 8 inch cards are fine.

Adding the i5 or I7 needs a bigger power supply.   I recommend the EVGA 750B1 but not B2 BQ or G2 versions as they do not have sufficient 3.3v/5v power.
This 750 TI works with the Stock Power Supply However Adding an I5 or I7 would need more power.
You cant use the longer card with 2 fans or the SC unit as it will overload the power supply.
The Straight  750TI says 300W power supply is fine.
The SC needs a  bigger PSU aka 450W on the 12v and 150W on the 3.3v/5v rails

EVGA Super nova 700B1 or 750B1 works fine.

B2 and G2 series do not.

The issue with working or not has to do with the 3.3v power supply on the X16 slots and 150W max combined power on the 3.3v and 5v rails.

I have an approximately 2 year old Desktop Inspiron 3847 with an odd (to me) problem. When I shut it down, after it powers off, all the fans will restart at a much higher speed than they run while the unit is on. They will run like that for hours unless I unplug the power supply. Can someone give me an idea why this is happening and how to correct it? It does not seem to be overheating, and the fans, the motherboard and the heat sink are clean.

I'm not sure what happened with my computer lately. It started one day when my previous audio card audibly died while listening to iTunes.

I went out and purchased a SIIG Soundwave 5.1 PCI sound card and everything seemed to be ok.

I also added 2 more gigs of RAM shortly after and then, a few days later, removed them as they didn't seem to be making a difference in my system. After the install of the additional 2 gigs of RAM, weird things started to happen.

While listening to any audio/video over the internet, the video is erratic as well as the audio - it gets this weird robotic sound to it, almost slow-motion.

For example, on youtube, it does this until the entire video has loaded, and then it plays ok. Any sites with background music, it has to loop once first before it plays correctly.

I don't know what to do!

In addition, sometimes my system lags incredibly to the point that when i move my mouse, it skips all over the screen.

I have no clue what's happening here and its probably a bunch of different things.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Also, I'm running an Intel Duo Core with 2 gigs of RAM.. Windows Vista 32 SP 1
