Changing default text size in I.E. 5.5

Q: Changing default text size in I.E. 5.5

This is more of an annoyance then a problem. Each time I launch I.E. 5.5 the text size defaults to "medium". I then have to go to "View"-"Text Size"- and click on "Smallest". I would prefer that it defaults to "Smallest" when I launch it. Anyone know how to change the text default size?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey all, sometimes when I enter the TSG site my text size changes. One minute the text is the size I have it set to and then when I go to a different thread it will get larger. At times if I hit the refresh button it goes back to the right size and sometimes it doesnt. I ran ccleaner but it does not make any difference. I have tried firefox(3.6) in safe mode but no difference there. Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this also. It is only the TSG site that this happens on.

Windows 7 64-bit
I can adjust the display so it's large enough to read everything but the text. For instance, now have it set at 150% of normal and the title of this post is large but what I'm typing now is so small it's barely readable. MUCH smaller than 10-point.

There is a way to customize the display, but anything more than 150% is so large it overflows my wide-screen monitor. Surely there must be a choice between way too large and way too small, but I can't find it.

A message on my screen now says to run TSG Sysinfo, for information helpful in solving this problem. Last time I downloaded something similar, here, I ended up with a $40 Uniblue program on my computer that I had to fight like crazy to stop invading my world. I never got my money back, either. It would help to know what "TSG Sysinfo" is, before I commit to running it.

Thanks,
Bahb

A very non-computer savvy woman asked why the text size changes (sometimes to large or very large and sometimes to small or very small) while she is typing on her netbook with XP. She says it happens in both her browser (Chrome) and her word processor (MS Works). She also is running Google Desktop. I did not see any utitlities or other unusual software. She says it is random but she thinks she might be brushing against the touchpad when it happens. Any guesses what she is doing? (She was going to try to show me but her battery died.)

If the touch pad is setup with a Scroll Zone, pressing CTRL+ScrollZone is same as CTRL+Wheel on the mouse, and will change text size in many applications. If they use keyboard shortcuts a lot like CTRL+C and CTRL+V that might explain it. You can disable the scroll zones in Control Panel | Mouse/Touchpad to see if that stops it.

I placed the font size button on the toolbar which makes it easier than using View>TextSize>Size.

As to why the font changes sizes every so often...I don't have a better answer except maybe it depends on the phase of the moon.

Have you tried pressing the Shift key while exiting the last browser to retain your settings?

Hello,
I've been trying to find a way to change the default icon size in Windows 7. My machine defaults to 'small' icon size, but I prefer the 'large' one, in just about every case. Instead of needing to manually change the size for each individual folder, is there a way I can set 'large' to be the default for all folders? I couldn't find anything in the control panel and haven't been able to find a post about setting a default size in the other forum posts yet.

-thanks!

A:Changing default Window Size ??

This can happen if a registry value is incorrect. If you are happy making changes to your registry try this. First, set a system restore point. Next, click on Start>run. In the box type "regedit". As an extra precaution click File on the top line then select Export. Name the file "backup" and save to your desktop. Navigate to HKEY_ CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft \Internet Explorer\Main. In the right-hand pane, locate and delete the value Window_Placement by right-clicking on it and selecting delete. Click File then exit. Now open IE and maximise the window. now close IE and reopen and check the size. It should now be full-screen.
Please let me know how you get on.

Hey guys,

As the subject says the text size is huge in windows, regardless of windows prefs or teh View -> Text Size option... they're huge and barely readable... just a lot of other problems. Removed a few entries from regedit & msconfig, there were two listings found that looked like a lot of squares and o's as the name, the path was in HLCU/Software/Microsoft/WindowsNT or something like that... Is there a way to change the default font size of the Arabic font of choice in IE? I see where I can choose which font, but I don't see an option for its size, other than changing all fonts. Roman letters appear much larger than Arabic and to enlarge all to accomodate Arabic makes the Roman letters huge!

The alternative might be to locate an Arabic font that is inherently larger and add that to the list of options, but I don't know what font that would be nor how to add it to the list in IE8.

There has to be a way. Anyone have suggestions?

Hi, there is one excel file that I have that I would like to keep a certain window size on my computer. I don't like to have to drag it back to the size I want every time I open the file. My other files don't seem to do this, once I change the size of the window it remains that size after I quit the program and re-open it. The file is protected but it seems to not want to listen to me when I try and format the window the way I want it to. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

A:Excel default window size keeps changing

What version of MS Office do you have?

As a general rule, once you drag the corner to the size you want and close the program, it will reopen to that same size. I don't think (but I could be wrong) that there's a way to choose a specific size for one particular document.

The only thing I can think of it to set your "restore down" to the size you want (assuming it's smaller than full screen) and then when you access that document you won't have to drag the corners but rather just click on the "restore down" icon in the top right-hand corner.

I'll start out here by stating a problem I finally solved and then my question:

For months now I've been fighting that my hardware cursor disappears in World of Warcraft on my home theater system and time I switch modes to full screen and sometimes even in windowed mode and the reason for this is apparently due to me setting my display text size to 150% or 125%. I did find via some searching WoW customer service forums that if I set it back to 100% (default) OR 149% customized, my hardware cursor works again. I'm going to leave it at 149% because I really do need the larger text size on my HDTV and using 149%, I don't have to change back to normal, log out, log in, then start my game.

I'm glad I found this solution - but my question is, WHY is this an issue on Windows 7? Why does 149% work??

I did some searching and couldn't find any reports of this on XP - and as far as I can remember it only started happening to me when I upgraded my XP to Win7. I'm hoping Microsoft recognizes this as a bug and will fix it someday.

Thanks in advance!

A:Game "hardware cursor" disappears after changing text size

This has to do with DPI scaling. Technically, when you change DPI different images should be used (higher DPI - higher quality image).
150% probably is that border where image should be changed. Likely, in your case that image is missing or somewhat corrupt (or might be a Blizzard's bug).

But Microsoft knows about problems with scaling. In Windows 8 Dev. Preview, at least in Metro part of it, scaling is done in a different way.

hi,

this may sound to you a bit odd but i would like to know if there's any way possible to change the default size of a window when it gets maximized.

i wanted to do this because my monitor's freaked out! the left and right borders of the screen aren't visible, as if you had streched them out of the monitor's display. But i didn't. In fact, when i try diminuish the horizontal size (through the monitor's buttons) nothing happens. I really think the monitor's busted.

Anyway, because i will not be able to change it in a while, i would like to know if there's any way to limit somehow the horizontal size of my whole display, and, if not possible, change the default size of windows.

it's a bit odd, i know...i tried to be as clear as possible in describing my situation, i'm sorry if i failed..lol

you need to adjust the monitor itself. there are buttons that will expand and retract the screen horizontall and vertically.

You may use your personal e-mail signature to choose default font in windows live hotmail...

In the options menu, select "more options" and then "personal e-mail signature". Choose the desired font style, size and color and type the phrase "text here". Save changes.

Now all you have to do, when writing a new message or a reply is highlight the phrase "text here" and start typing. It's that simple!

Windows 10.

I am having much fun grappling with my displays. I say grapple because I CANNOT see the text!

I have a laptop, with a display that has up to 2048x resolution and an external monitor that does 1920x. I have tried to keep both set the same resolution so the mouse will easily go back and fort.

If I bump one setting, others seem to change. Like after an update too!

I need a script, to set, then set again, and again, the
display settings,
the custom scaling level, and
the "change only text size".

Keeping the monitor placement geometry the same would be great for me too.

Oh for a cross reference on Outlook 2013 to the system setting. I keep manipulating the view settings there too.

Probably to get started I could use a "settings display" script.

Help, please

A:How to re-size the explorer search box. - Large text size.

Hi,
According to my experience, high-DPI can cause strange behavior include toolbars, icons, and control buttons, though the link I shared with you previously doesn't include the issue about ratio between address box and search box, the symptom
is somewhat similiar to that.
I recommend that we turn on Windows update, and wait for an update which might address this issue, or as you mentioned, turn to a lower dpi as a temporarily workaround.

I have 2 printers on my PC. 1 is a receipt printer with 58mm wide paper. The other is an HP1410 with letter size paper. The receipt printer is set as the default printer since it is used most. But sometimes I need to do a print of the web page used for the
Point Of Sale. When I select the HP printer for the output, the page is printed but only 58mm wide instead of letter size. Likewise if I set the HP1310 as the default printer, then when I select the receipt printer as the output, it tries to print letter size.
IE does not appear to change the paper size when a printer other than the default is selected. It ALWAYS uses the paper size of the default printer irregardless of the printer selected for output.

Note that Chrome works correctly and will adjust the page size to the default for whichever printer is selected but IE will not
Also note that NotePad has the same issue.I haven't tested with edge but then it won't support Activex either.

I am limited to using IE because the credit card scanner used with the receipt printer requires Activex support. My only workaround now is to switch to using Chrome whenever I need to print to any printer other than the Windows default printer. There was
a similar old issue "IE7 Default Paper Size" that never really had a resolution. It reported a similar issue between printers with Letter and A4 paper sizes. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello sevenforums! I have a problem with my computer i recently purchased. Here is my story.

This all started whenever I wanted to change my text size different by changing my DPI settings. What I did was right click, go to screen resolution, and clicked on "Make text and other items larger or smaller". From this I changed it to 100% from 125%. I noticed it had changed my font size to the 100%. It then made everything SUPER small when I changed my theme settings.

Whenever I right click and go into personalization settings, I do the usual customizing to my likings. Since I want to save the theme, I do so by naming it, blah. Now I want to use the blah theme by click on it, and I do so. Everything is fine and dandy until I right click my desktop to refresh(out of habit). This is the before and after of the font sizes.
Before
After

My workaround was to set a custom DPI setting, log off like it prompts me to, then changing it back to 100%, again prompting to do so. It is so annoying to do so.

Help me! It is driving me crazy and I have no idea how to fix it. I cannot save a theme and change to it, otherwise it results in the small font. It affects all the fonts soon afterwards. Like google chrome will be fine until i exit and restart the program. Then a super small font follows.

If you get a mass storage drive letter when you connect your camera you can try connecting the camera so the drive letter is present, then right click on the drive and choose properties and in properties select the autoplay tab and specifically select an action for the type of files present such as open folder for viewing in windows explorer or whatever else is available.

If that doesn't work let us know, maybe media detector is running as a service and that needs to be shut down or something.

If you do not want to set it at 125%, and if you are using a mouse with wheel at the top....................

Press Ctrl key and hold > roll the wheel.
Clockwise is to decrease text size.
Counter-clockwise is to increase the text size.

That will mean that on every page you are viewing, you need to manually roll the mouse wheel to adjust text size.

Not what you prefer. I know that.

Just to show you an alternative.

Strange...when I change the font size here it stays that way.
you could always try, what Windows help says to that:
To override website font and color settings
If you want to have the fonts and colors you specify in Internet Explorer to be used for all websites, regardless of the fonts that have been set by the website designer, follow these steps:

Click to open Internet Explorer.

Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.

Click the General tab, and then click Accessibility.

Select the Ignore colors specified on webpages, Ignore font styles specified on webpages, and Ignore font sizes specified on webpages check boxes, and then click OK twice.

Hope that helps

Sorry if this is just a general PC issue.
I have a new 8.1 laptop and use WLM 2012 for emails.
The text size in the message list, displayed messages and everything really seems much smaller than it was on my Win 7 machine.
Can't find any way to alter it.
Does anyone know how ? Thanks.
Screen resolution is set to max.
