Game generates errors on startup

Q: Game generates errors on startup

Whenever I try to start Star Wars Galaxies (great game) I always get a Program Error message saying that Launchpad.exe (the program that Star Wars Galaxies starts from) has generated errors and has been closed by windows. It does this every time.. quite annoying. Anyone know how I can get around this?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

About half the time I open either Internet Explorer or Windows Explorer, explorer.exe generates an error. Then I'll try opening the program again, and it'll open up fine.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

You have an outdated version of HijackThis. Click here to get the latest version of HijackThis.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

My computer takes quite a while to boot up. Then after I login the screen goes black with the mouse cursor for about 2 minutes before the desktop comes up. It then takes quite a few minutes (maybe about 10) to stop reading from the hard drive and run my boot up programs. I suspect there are possible errors in the registry or system files. I need help!
Also I would like to know how low power from the power supply can affect performance.
Thanks.

I belong to Sandlot games Beta testers. I have been able to install and play their games with no problems in the past. But the last 2 games I have had problems after I install them. First was Pirates of Fortune I installed it tried to run it and when its loading it will shut down and give me the report to windows pop up . The second game is Balhalla when I am done installing and try to play the game as its loading
I get the errors ( first one ) "Error while parsing resources.xml file ( 0x1229).. then when I click ok on that error I get "Runtime error aborting (0x1219) then I click ok the game closes and there is the last error message "unhandled unknown exception (0x1212)..

Any idea why I am having trouble installing the games? I have always been able to in the past with no problems. Oh and I am running Winxp pro with sp2

I've owned my laptop for about a year and a half, it is a Dell Inspiron E1705. About a week ago, I decided to use Dell's System Restore to return to factory settings, because of how clogged my system had gotten. Before my format, I was using Omega Drivers, and they seemed to work, until I tried installing the BioShock and MoH Airborne Demos. Both of them installed correctly, but neither of them seemed to like my graphics card drivers when i tried to play them. So, I tried to go to the NVIDIA website and download the latest drivers. After choosing my operating system (XP Media Center) and Graphics card (GeForce Go 7800), the site directed me to this driver [ http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_mobile_84.63_2.html ]. I tried to install it, I received an error message attached in this post. Eventually I decided to format, and then I installed Oblivion, which worked, but was fairly sluggish. I then tried to install the MoH Airborne demo, which gave me the good ol' blue screen of death during installation. I tried once again to update my drivers, and I received the same error message. I installed Supreme Commander, which works, but occasionally freezes for about 10 seconds or so before going back to the game. Before the format, Supreme Commander worked just fine.

So there's my problem. If there's anything anyone might know that could fix this, I would be overjoyed to hear it.

~Thanks

I had to reformat and reinstall windows twice today in a row! I was playing Crysis on low settings and I was tempted and set them all to high settings, overclocked my 1.8ghz to 2.2ghz and screwed around with something called "PCI mhz" (I think thats what it was called?) which I assume was how you overclocked your video card, basically I screwed everything up and had to restore defaults several times in bios until windows wouldn't even load and my comp would keep rebooting instead heading to the windows loading screen.

Finally got it under control I thought, then I began to install all my .exe (xfire, aim, firefox, etc)stuff that I had backed up on my 2nd hard drive, I should of copied my entire game collection but Didn't have enough space for it until recently.

Then I threw in my WOW DVD Disc and I got this...

Open ports in a firewall or proxy server

Some games will not load if your computer system connects to the Internet through a firewall or proxy server unless certain TCP Ports are opened in the firewall or proxy server. Most work, school, and public computers are connected through a firewall or proxy server for security. If you have a cable or DSL modem, you may also have a firewall installed. To open these ports, consult the help files for your firewall software or contact your network administrator or IT technician for assistance. Ports that need to be opened to play MSN Games:

80 (To access the Internet – required for all games.)

443 (Sign In)

1863 (Windows Live Messenger– needed for multiplayer games and Windows Live Messenger games)

6891 and 6900 (Windows Live Messenger File Transfer features – only necessary if you wish to use these features in Windows Live Messenger.)

28000-28809 (Internet Games that are pre-installed in Windows XP.)
Also, check your firewall to make sure SSL (Secure Socket Layer) is not blocked

I play Battle for Middle-earth II on my two laptops, but for some reason, it doesn't work on my desktop computer - whenever I try to play any game(skirmish/campaign) the game crashes and I get a "Game.DAT error" along with the option to send an error report. Here are my system specs:

Windows XP Professional SP2
1 GB RAM
1.80 GHz Intel Pentium 4 processors
Intel 82845G Graphics Controller
Samsung monitor
Could someone help? By the way, The Battle for Middle-earth 1 works fine on the desktop.

Another issue is this: I have Skyrim, and installed it on the same desktop. Whenever I click on "Play" it says that there is some hardware problem and I can't play it("Hardware T & I error").

I searched all over the 'net but couldn't find anything. If I could get some help I would really appreciate it.

Hi guys, I'm having a few errors come up when I try to run a specific game on my computer. All of the other games on my computer work fine except this one.

The first error I was getting was when the game was loading into the login screen the error was something like: Gameguard Initialization Error: 230, but that's all it said, so I typed it in Google and didn't really find any solutions.

Now I get a different error along with the Gameguard Initialization one called:

Application has generated an exception that could not be handled.

Process id=0x944 (2372), Thread id=0x9fc (2556).

Click OK to terminate the application.
Click CANCEL to debug the application.

Then when I press cancel the same error comes up, and sometimes it tells me something about a JIT debugger. I googled all of it and all signs pointed to .NET framework problems. But I can't understand why some games work and this one doesn't? And whats really weird is that I was initially getting this error when I first tried to play, then came onto my computer later and tried and it let me play the game. I left the game, came back the next day and was getting errors again, and still am without having done anything to my computer. I looked up everything I could about .NET framework and found out I have several versions on my computer, and my computer is apparently running version 1.0 even though it has 2.0 installed. Im hoping someone here has some ideas or suggestions on how to help me. I just bought Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific for my pc and it will not install and run. 1st of all: my pc should be able to run it as it meets the spec requirements on the box. My pc specs are: Dell E310 Pent 4ht 2.80ghz, 2 gigs ram, 160 gb hd and a Geforce 6200 video card. Also the video card is a pci bus because unfortunatley my system dosent have a pci express slot. The game requirements does say the geforce 6200 IS a supported card. One other thing is the instructions do state the because of technology in the disc designed to prevent copying there is a chance it may conflict with some disc and virtual drives. Maybe this is the problem, I am not sure how to check that out. Ok so here is what happens when I try to install the game: It loads normally, abeit slowly, and then when it is just about finished there is a windows error indicating "Directx setup has encountered a problem and needs to close.(you have the option of loading directx however I am pretty sure I already have the latest version, so I didnt choose the let the disc download it on previous tries) After clicking "dont send error to microsoft" I get the same error, but this time it is for Setup Launcher. Ok heres the most updated information. Its a fresh format of Windows XP Home and I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the drivers I have all the chipset drivers installed for the board and it still does this. I run virus scanners and they find nothing. You think maybe the MBR could be infected and I need to make a new one? But if I do this will the information on my hard drive still be retained? If not its no big deal but I would rather try to keep all my stuff that I have on my computer.

Asus P4R800-VM

A:Getting AGP and Onboard gfx errors when trying to play a game(PLZ HELP)

Getting the errors on both the onboard and the add-in card, and only in games, points to a software problem rather than a hardware problem. Have you run windows update and installed the latest version of DirectX?

Also, sometimes problems like this have simple solutions, check the game's manufacturer for any updates, defrag the hard drive, make sure your motherboard chipset drivers are installed, make sure the hard drives are set for DMA.

If you can give us any more information on what your seeing; IE: blurring, stuttering, jagged lines, fuzziness, tearing, etc, it would be very useful in determining the problem.

At this point, the MBR isn't a suspect in the problem. Are you asking this due to having hard drive problems, or virus problems lately?

Hi
I'm having terrible trouble with my PC.

it's

Windows XP Professional (no service packs. I tried service pack 2, but it wouldn't let me install anything afterwards, so I did a system restore)
AMD Athlon XP 2400+ 2.0GHz
1.0 GB RAM
256MB Nvidea GeForce FX 5500 with latest drivers
and I'm running Directx 9.0C

It's a homebuilt box, not from any major company.

I've installed and tried plenty of games, most of which crash with an error message asking if I want to reboot, and the worst of all, Morrowind just randomly locks up (and I want to play that game so bad!). Battlefield 1942 and Vietnam let me play for a few minutes before showing me an error message, but Soldier of Fortune 2 just goes ahead and shows it right as soon as you start shooting. The only game I've tried that actually works without crashing or freezing is Grand Theft Auto Vice City.....

I spent an hour or 2 on the phone with Microsoft Technical support, and they told me to do all of the basic troubleshooting, like updating video drivers, uninstalling and reinstalling the game, uninstalling and reinstalling the video drivers, turning off the sound accelleration....and nothing worked, so he said there wasn't anything else that could be done. it's rediculous how this happens with almost everything I try, especially since it's a totally legit copy of windows xp. if it was a bootleg copy, then that might explain it, but it's not.

In January I bought my new Gateway DX4200-09, with Vista. Since then, some of my favorite old games do not function. Particularly, one of my very favorite games of all time: Jedi Knight (Dark Forces II), from LucasArts, 1997. When I put the disc in, the install prompt comes up, same as always, but when I try to install it, I get this message (and I quote,)

"The Jedi Knight Setup program was unable to launch. You can install Jedi Knight by running SETUP.EXE directly from the Jedi Knight CD-Rom disk #1."

So, no problem.. I just went into explorer and opened the appropriate file, but THEN I get the real error:

"The Program or feature "\??\D:\install\setup.exe" cannot start or run due to incompatibility with 64-bit versions of Windows. Please contact the software vendor to ask if a 64-bit Windows compatible version is available."

They can land a man on the Moon and split the atom, but they can't make a version of Windows that will run old software?

Any solutions?

Basically I've been having this problem recently where if I play a game for too long, I'll get a BSOD crash. Happens with skyrim, portal 2, and now ToR. I think my RAM is faulty, so I ordered new RAM (hasn't come in the mail yet), but I've been getting errors like "Attempt to reset the video driver failed." Any advice?

Memtest had about 10 errors in the first 4%, hence why I ordered new RAM. If I run verifier I can't even start up windows without a BSOD

Edit: I should add that I never used to have these problems, but about a month ago it started happening with skyrim, then it happened on portal, and now on ToR. I can play the game for 10-20 minutes before a crash. They're coming more frequently now though.

A:BSOD whenever playing a game, multiple different errors

Couple of issues

These were caused by a memory exception. Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.
1-Memtest.

*Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

I've been experiencing repeated crashes and hardware errors when playing the game Atlas Reactor. Typically, the graphics will freeze sometime in the first few turns of a match, but the audio will continue to play, and the game will register clicks for aiming skills, locking in my turn, etc. Typically after another half turn or so (of just audio), the client will crash. I don't have this issue with any other game, and I've been able to run benchmarks with Heaven and 3DMark without any problems. I've updated all my drivers and BIOS, tried troubleshooting with video card clock speeds, etc., but can't seem to stop the crashes.

Hello!

Im new on this forum and i hope i do this the right way.

Ever since i built my computer, (about a year ago) i have gotten at least one bluescreen per week or more.
I have never really cared about it until now. Now, my computer tends to crash and then it gets stuck on the
"bios bootup screen". If i then restart my computer it all goes back to normal but the computer crashes again after 2-5 minutes in windows.

I would love if someone could help me solve this problem.

I just purchased a barebones machine that came with a BIOSTAR A880G+ Mobo and AMD Athalon II X3 460 CPU. I then bought a 530W PSU and an Geforce GT 610 (2GB version) and a 4GB stick of RAM. Got home, installed windows 7 x86, updated and began installing games.
First off was F.E.A.R which ran splendidly for about 20 minutes. Then I started noticing tearing in the graphics and some FPS lag. This lasted for about 15 seconds and the screen turned black and the computer rebooted. A similar occurrence happened with BF2. Minecraft froze repeatedly in worlds with complex builds but did not crash. I had one instance of VLC causing the computer to crash when attempting to play a 720p resolution video.

A google search suggest increasing TDR delay, so I increased it to 8 seconds. This stopped the computer from rebooting but the games still crashed. The Nvidia graphics setting are all set to "performance". 3D vision, network service, and streamer services have all been disabled. Doing those things has helped crashes to a degree but it's still rather random. I can play for 10 minutes or 3 hours without a crash. I don't know very much about adjusting clock speeds or voltages with graphics cards so I've been reluctant to tinker around with that but I'm wondering if the graphics card is demanding more juice than my mobo is providing.

This help request might fit in alternate discussion threads, but this seems like the most logical place to post... these could be 2 separate issues, but it feels like they are connected to me.

Problem:
A - Unpacking any RAR, Zip, 7z, etc file - particularly large ones results in CRC or other unpacking errors 90% of the time. Sometimes a simple retry works, sometimes re-downloading the compressed file works.. sometimes nothing works. Anything over 1GB is almost sure to fail miserably every time (often fails on different files within the package.
(this occurs using winzip, winrar, 7zip)

B - Multiple game client crashes - Oblivion, Various MMORPG (WoW, LOTRO, many others) crash constantly.. if the computer doesn't freeze or blue screen, the error is 100% the client .exe file .. it doesn't happen just on strenuous load sequences or 'laggy' areas.. it can just happen sitting in the middle of an unpopulated area.. varies once per 1-5 hrs.. rarely goes 3 gameplay attempts without at least 1 crash.

Both errors have occured pretty consistently over the last 3 years.. i give up on some games that have more crashes than others.. and give up on some because i can never even unpack the game to play it.

Hello,
I've had issues with my Samsung RC512-S02 laptop for a few months now. It began after a NVIDIA update for their latest driver for my chip (GeForce GTG525M) in late December of 2012. Occasionally it would BSOD while playing Borderlands, but that eventually moved onto League of Legends. It got progressively worse and a few days ago I identified the cause of the problem through various sources (my friend that is a comp-sci major, WhoCrashed, and the internet) as the NVIDIA update, which I believed it to be. To fix that I completely uninstalled all NVIDIA files and installed a previous version of the driver, but my computer still BSOD's whenever I try to play any game. I put off fixing it to do schoolwork, but while just having YouTube on Google Chrome open and Microsoft Word it BSOD'd just now. The original errors caused by the NVIDIA driver were 0xC4 errors, and out of the errors that I experienced after fixing that most of them have still been 0xC4 errors, however two of them were 0x9F and 0x116 errors, and they have all been either caused by ntoskrnl.exe or by an unknown driver. Thank you very much for any help that you provide and for any time you take to help me.

Uninstall AVG as it is well known for BSOD, you can re-install later if found not the cause.
Please use Microsoft Security Essentials.
Recommended from a strict BSOD perspective, compatibility & stability compared to other antiviruses/internet security software and has a small footprint. Found here:

I recently installed S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and when I tried to start it, my computer reset itself.

I've read up on this a bit. I know my PC isn't overheating and I know I meet the minimum system requirements, because I tried the game a year ago when I bought it and it ran perfectly fine.

My specs:

Windows XP 32-bit with SP3
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ @ 1.8GHz
1Gb DDR RAM
ATi Radeon 9550 AGP 256MB
Gigabyte GA-K8NSC 939 motherboard (NVIDIA nForce3 250 chipset)
Enermax EG465P-VE power supply

I thought it might be a special case, so I tried Oblivion and Quake 4. Oblivion works fine, but Quake 4 suffers from the same problem. I played through Quake 4 back in June, so something may have happened to my computer since then.

I had the legacy drivers (10.2) installed when I tried each game, so I tried a roll back to what I've read are the best Catalyst drivers for the 9550, which is 6.2. No difference. All my mobo drivers are up to date, along with Windows.

I changed my settings so that my computer won't restart and it came up with an error code and a suggestion that I disable BIOS memory caching or shadowing. I can't seem to find these options in BIOS, however.

I know my computer is terrible. The only reason I'm still using it is because I have only received hand-me-downs, all of my previous video cards failed for whatever reason, and I can't afford anything else at the moment. This particular incident is just bothering me because I'm having trouble pl... Read more

A:PC resetting on game startup

According to your Mobo manual, try pressing Ctrl-F1 in your BIOS, this will enable any hidden settings in your BIOS.
No available BIOS updates seem to affect memory caching.
Nothing in the manual about it either.
Try contacting Gigabyte for assistance about how to disable it.
Also try contacting the game designers and provide them the error code and see if they can help.

Also, you are just shy of min system requirements (STALKER:SoC): 0.2GHz short and min Radeon is 9600 instead of 9550. Age/wear/tear may have decreased the capability of your hardware to compensate for the deficiency of these two components. Also, though you're only just shy of minimum, you're woefully below recommended. The menu loading up may be doing so at a graphics level above what your hardware can now handle, though tbh this is unlikely.

Try the BIOS and contacting Gigabyte/THQ first, but if that doesn't work and nobody else can think of anything, you may have to wait until you get new hardware that is better equipped to handle the games.

OK, so I've had this game for years and years.

The application Online.exe is required to start Game.exe and yet both are getting a UAC prompt, and I think this is causing the game to stop working before it can initialize. Periodically, I can get through this by accepting UAC and everything works, but other times, UAC comes up and the game never appears after accepting UAC.

Can somebody please tell me a workaround? I realize UAC is important for security purposes, and I don't want to disable it, just allow one (or two) programs as an exception.

Thanks.

Hello,

My Windows 8 pro x64 is installed yesterday, behaves exactly like the old one from one week ago, exactly like the previous installation. If I run "sfc /scannow" my CBS.log is around 90-100 MB in size, it was 160 MB at some point. I am booting from a 60GB SSD if it matters. The system runs fine, I have no errors so the amount of errors reported by sfc is just... weird.

Dism reports every time that everything is OK, no errors found. Chkdsk also says nothing is wrong.
I did everything that was written in the sfc tutorials from within Windows, I ran sfc several times, I exported the log to sfcdetails.log and it has over 60 MB...

I looked into the file and all reported errors are the same type, like the one below with "file is missing" :

Code:
2013-07-25 09:54:06, Info CSI 00000012 [SR] Cannot repair member file [l:24{12}]"1394ohci.sys" of 1394.inf, Version = 6.2.9200.16384, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_AMD64 (9), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, Type = [l:24{12}]"driverUpdate", TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral in the store, file is missing

Now it's impossible to have the amount of errors reported, something else must be happening here.
Any ideas ?

Thanks.

A:sfc generates 90-160 MB logs

Hello jdaniel,

I totally agree with your logic, your findings, and your conclusion (implied) that sfc /scannow might not be all that it should. Specifically, I have seen many individuals report that "everything is fine" but they are compelled to do a "super-clean" check via running sfc /scannow only to be disappointed that it found many errors. This is why I recommend that users, not having a specific problem, should not run sfc /scannow. With that said, I am running it right now on my perfectly clean test rig. BTW, I looked at your log (briefly) and saw many missing files associated with the AMD architecture. Now, my test rig is an AMD based laptop so let's see what happens. I'll update my thread with my findings and we'll compare notes at that time so hang in ther and I'll be back shortly.

I have also tried doing a complete system restore and am still experiencing theses problems. Because of this it would make sense for it to be a hardware problem however I have tried multiple different hardware test with no signs of failure. I am aware I might need to post some specific crash file or something but not sure which one or where to find them so if needed just specify. Note I've also tried looking into out of date drivers however I have a hard time finding a proper download for certain things or programs to help me fix them that don't seem suspicious and ask for money.
