New Computer not remembering log-in information

Q: New Computer not remembering log-in information

Since I've been using my new system running Windows XP Home, I've noticed on sites that require log-ins, that I have to re-login all the time when I visit. It's like somehow now my computer is not remembering to automatically remember my log-in information. It may be due to the new firewall installed called CA Internet Security Suite. I tried changing the settings to "medium security", but when I check again, the setting all revert to "high security." This was not a problem with the old computer running Windows 98. What's causing this and is there a fix?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, My home build desktop with windows XP home has stopped remembering my login name on some of the sites I use a lot. Two of them happen to be my banks. Called banks and they said they had nothing to do with it. Don't know what I did but wish I could get it back to remembering. Anyone know what I can do? Thanks

A:computer stopped remembering login names

Hi drhugh -

I find that this is not unusual for me at certain times. You should not have your Bank as a Saved Login (password) name.
Every 2 or 3 months I need to reinstall several Login s and passwords (even my email will ask for it to check that I am using it.

I keep my passwords and Login names listed apart from other programs just for this type of event.

Only yesterday my wife needed to retype her Facebook Login and password, and I needed to retype my email login .

You should always change important passwords etc. (like banks) every few months to be more secure also.

No direct solution here, just a few words of advice -

Regards -

I have been using Internet Explorer 8 for quite a while now and suddenly this morning I encountered a new problem.

For instance, I'm signed into this webiste right now, if I were to close IE and reopen it then come back to this site, it won't remember me. I haven't changed any settings. I have had the settings exactly as they are now for a long long time. Before this morning, I could be signed in to a bunch of different sites, turn the computer off, then turn it back on and go back to the sites I was signed into and I'd still be signed in.

Whenever I sign off now, it's acting like I used CCleaner to remove any temp files, but I'm not.

Is anybody else experiencing this? Has anybody ever experienced this?

I can usually figure stuff like this out, but for some reason I can't figure this one out on my own.

I know a lot of you will laugh but here it goes. I have a real old IBM PC (one with only serial port, parallel port, & 1.4MB floppy drive) running Windows 98 on 64MB of RAM running my QuickBooks 99 software. It is not networked or connected to anything since I want to keep it completely virus free. Now it has come to the point the system can die on me at any time, I want to migrate to a new Windows 7 laptop running the current QuickBooks 2011. I just have no idea how to get my data files from the old PC to the new laptop without major operation. These data files are all about 6MB in size and I have about 100 of them. Any pointers that can help me accomplish this task will be highly appreciated.

I made a back up (option: all information on this computer) on a Windows XP Pro SP2 computer and given that this Windows XP is no longer repairable, I am thinking of rebuilding a new Win XP system and do a restore BUT does anyone know what this restore will include exactly?

Will this restore include: (1)personal data? (2)Settings? (3)Programs? (4) user accounts ..etc
Or what would be the best way of approaching a proper job of this PC?

Given that this is my live data I d be grateful to hear some professional advice before risking it and also the fact that the backup took a good 5hrs.

Many thanks

A:What does Restore 'all information on this computer' do exactly?'

Hi,

Here's a good tutorial with pics that you can use to guide you in using Microsoft BackUp

http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=1124&page=7

It explains both what backing up "all information on this drive" does as well as what it puts back....

http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=1124&page=7

Restoring data
Now that the backups have been created, let's look at restoring them. Note that Windows XP Home cannot use the automated system recovery disk to restore itself, as described below. To recover XP Home backups in the case of an emergency, reinstall Windows, then install the backup utility and manually restore your previous backup.Click to expand...

If you have Win XP Home edition....do you have an install disk, so you can reinstall the operating system? Or, do you have some other way to reinstall Windows?

Plugged in the hard drive to the new computer won't let me activate says it's offline ,but I am using same connection right now. Is there any way of getting around this I wanted to pick up my data on my hard drive. The old computer is died and I am not looking to fix it cause it is not worth the money.

A:Oem computer can't retrieve information.

<<Plugged in the hard drive to the new computer...>>

If you mean that you tried to move the hard drive from System A...to System B...as the main drive containing Windows...and it doesn't work...that should be expected. The drive from the Compaq system reflects the settings, drivers, and an approved XP install for your Compaq system...and that's the only system for which that install of Windows is valid.

If you mean that you attached the drive as a secondary drive and cannot access the data folders...you need to be clearer in expressing exactly what you have done.

I am new here and hoping that someone can help me out.  I am not sure if I have a lingering problem, but I encountered something and wanted to report it and check if others have any experience with it.  I was on youtube actually watching videos about car repair when a pop-up that redirected me to a new webpage occurred (it was the web page of hxxp://www.computer-restore.com) A pop-up box appeared saying I had been infected and it then gave me a phone number to call (866-915-6151).  When I tried to simply close the pop-up, it would go to one of those boxes that asked me if I really wanted to leave the page.  If I continued to try to leave the page, it would then bounce back to the original box each time.  I got caught in an endless loop and could not close my webpage or my browser or get to any other program or window on my computer.  I had to physically turn off the computer to escape.  I am now wondering if I might have a lingering issue from this?  Has anyone else encountered this issue and does anyone know about this site, phone number, and issue?  A google search revealed nothing and I am wondering if this is a new thing?  Any help or information would be appreciated!

A:Any information about www.computer-restore.com?

Hi jstach These kind of websites/pages/pop-ups are known as "tech support scams". You can read quietman's article below on them to learn more.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/407147/answers-to-common-security-questions-best-practices/#entry3897161Closing the web browser and then relaunching it usually eliminates the bogus warning message and is the best way to deal with these scams. If the browser freezes or hangs, you may have to close it with Windows Task Manager by selecting End Task. Afterwards, be sure to refresh (clear) your browser's cache. This is typically the reason security scanners do not find any malware on the computer after encountering these types of scams. These are web-based alerts, and therefore contained in your web browser. They usually don't drop any malware on your system, and you won't encounter the same one again (unless you don't clear your cache). So if you hit one, simply kill your web browser process to exit it and continue using your computer normally

Take out the hard drive and keep it for a secondary drive for your computer. Sell the old one with out a hard drive. There is no rule that you have to sell a computer with a hard drive but if you leave it in the computer with an operating system on it you are required to have the install software, manual if any and key code with it.

I specifically wanna know If I have a sound card and if I do which one and if I dont then what type of sound(the motherboard's integrated type). If anyone could point me to a utility that can help me identify it and perhaps tell me which drivers I need I would appreciate it.

A:Does anyone know how I can fiind out information abouy my computer?

Look for the audio source.

The first place to look is where you are plugging in your speakers on the back of the computer's case. If you are getting your sound from the same collection of connections where the keyboard and mouse connect you are using the integrated audio from the motherboard.

If you are getting your sound from a connection of one of the PCI slots then you have a sound card. You may have a connection for both. In this case you need to go into BIOS on startup and disable the integrated audio. The next time you restart windows should see your sound card as new hardware if it had not done so before. Hopefully windows should be able to provide suitable drivers on the spot.

If you have only one audio connection and it's on your motherboard the integrated audio may need to be enabled in BIOS.

If all else falis you'll need to open your case and find any identifing logos or part numbers on your motherborad and\or sound card and search the internet for drivers.

Hope this helps! I don't know of any utilities to tell you what you want... hopefully someone else has that info.

I've been through hell trying to get my computer to stop freezing. My computer is custom built (three years old) and it never had any freezing problems until about half a year ago. This is what I've done to try and cure the problem.

- Uninstalled IE and replaced it with Mozilla FireFox (this seemed to help a bit because Mozilla isn't using nearly as much memory to run the browser)

- Bought RegCure and regularly use it

- De-fragmented my C: drive

- Uninstalled any unnecessary programs and applications

- Recently updated my video drivers

This is the deal. When idle, my computer never freezes. I can leave it on all night/day, whatever and it won't freeze. It seems to lock up when I'm actually using the computer, mainly when I'm browsing on the internet or using media devices. For example, sometimes I'll download a video to watch or tamper with iTunes and the computer will randomly just lock up and I'll have to restart. Sometimes it will lock up constantly after restarting, then other times I can go hours without any problems. Now what else can I do!? Please help! My Hijack logs never get any responses, so is there anything I can do? Thank you.

Greetings: Some of you can recall that I had a problem with my computer navigating form quoted links on e-mails and basically the second click just produced a blank screen. My computer is back to normal now after I put together some pieces from a group of suggestions. Here is what I did; I uninstalled every program, went to Programs & Features and viewed updates and uninstalled every one that I could (not all would uninstall) including IE. I put my Windows 7 (upgrade from Vista to Windows Pro) disc in and proceeded to re-install it, successfully.. NOTE:( When I tried to do this when I first had the navigation problem, it wouldn't go.) After Windows 7 upgrade was finished installing, I went to see what version of IE i had an saw it was version 8. I then went to replace it with IE 10 and it wouldn't go because it requires Service pack 1 which probably was uninstalled during the earlier uninstalling  process. I then opted to go to IE 9 and it did download. I restarted my computer and was happy to see that my computer was back to normal and navigating again. I wanted to let you all know about this since it appears, from what I read, that his is a wide-spread problem and others could use this info. Thank You.

Ok, I have a HP Pavilion Computer Intel? Celeron? CPU 2.50GHz 2.49 GHz, 760 MB of Ram
Operating system is Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service 2PK

The problem started a few months ago when I would attempt to go on to the internet the computer would pop up multiple internert pages, the same one, but I would have 3 or 4. Then it started freezing up when I would go to any location on the internert. But if I was sent something on the internet via email I could go on to the page from my email message, not a problem. Just recently I did this though and it allowed the first few pages and then started freezing up. I had a friend come over to try to find help me, he downloaded a free version of AVG Anti Virus and we found some stuff and deleted it, well I was told to put it in a vault, so I did. I just found the vault today and deleted it out of the vault, or it is called quarintine, I guess. The computer is now starting to slow up when I go on to do things on my email. Right now it is a little slow when I am in my files but not too bad. the freezing problem as far as going on to the internet is just as bad as before we got some threas out. I am scanning again as I am writing this on another computer. I am willing to just start all over again if you want to help me with that. I saved all of my important files and I am ready to crash this thing and rebuild. I still do have acess to email and files. There are not warning boxes or anything coming up on my screen.

My old computer died and the hard drive infromation was copied to a CD.  I bought a new computer with Vista and would like to tranfer the old computer information to the new computer.  Vista Easier Transfer seemingly only works with two computers. What do you do in the case where you have only one computer and the old computer information on a CD?

A:How do I load information from the CD drive to computer

Hi,

How did you copy the hard drive information to the CD? Did you copy the entire hard drive information or only certain files to the CD?

I am afraid we cannot use Windows Easy Transfer at this situation. You may need to manually copy important files from the CD to Windows Vista.

I've been trying to use a particular forum, but it seems like the forum is been stuck at Dec. 14, 2004. I can't type any new posts on it and I can't see any new posts (after Dec. 14th) either.

I searched other threads on this forum which led me to do several things:
1. ipconfig /flushdns
2. clear internet cookies
3. clear temporary internet files (all offline content as well)
4. run adaware in order to get rid of spyware

I still am unable to submit/receive any new information from the forum. Is there anything else that I could try that might solve my problem?

P.S. I use 3 other forums and they work just fine. And I haven't heard that anything is wrong with the forum, but if you guys think that is the case, then please search with the following text on google: animereactor forum. It will be the first link returned on google.

Thanks so much

I have 3 small compact HP pavilion 6835 that were given to me as well as 2 other computers that I am not sure of operating system or any specs on them. Is there any way to possibly interchange parts etc to make my children 2 computers? Any links, etc if allowed is much appreciated. I am not sure of the problems as my spouse is the one whom brought them home for me to play with. Thank you in advance.

Hi guys.

First I'd like to say this is probably going to be a long post with a lot of info, some of which I may forget to include. Also, I'm not exactly the biggest computer genius out there, so please have patience!

I built this PC around 3 months ago and it worked fine for around 1 week. After that, I would occasionally get this problem where the computer freezes (the screen completely stops) and can only be fixed by the power/reset buttons:
The screen stops completely, but no visual defects are caused.
The mouse stops moving. Clicking the mouse buttons does nothing.
The 'num lock' and 'caps lock' keys on the keyboard become unresponsive.
Sounds becomes very distorted, but if you listen closely you can still hear the sound being played very slowly.
No noticeable difference in the speed of the fans in the case before or after crashing.
Strangely, the animation the mouse makes when loading something (the blue circle) still works
No dump files are made.
The system does not start responding if I wait.

A lot has happened since then in terms of troubleshooting and discovery so I'll list everything in chronological order:
I ran multiple MemTests (MemTest: RAM reliability tester for Windows) overnight multiple times with no errors found.
Used my computer normally with 1 RAM stick at a time, then tried using both sticks but in different slots.
I did stress tests on my CPU and GPU with no errors or crashes caused.
I updated my mobo and GPU drivers.
Reseated my GPU.
I change... Read more

A:Transfering hard drive information to another computer

Yes, you can remove the old hard drive with your needed files, and purchase a USB laptop external case. Install the old drive in the external enclosure, and connect it to the new laptop. The external drive should be detected and your files should then be retrieveable

If you have any DMP files please use this method and upload them. If not check event viewer

There are several ways to find what the problem is. The best is to go into event viewer (type eventvwr in search). Event viewer (local) and look for errors listed in the last day, week, etc. Then go to the windows log>application tab. Finally the windows Logs>system tabs.

You want to look for all errors (they have red in the left column ).

When you find them you want to look for critical errors that say app hang, app crash, or anything that relates to the problem.

When you find them please note the event ID, and the source codes and tell us what they are.

No DMP files included in upload please try this method
We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

Alright well recently, as in the last couple of days, I have been having problems with my internet. At random intervals of the day my computer will tell me that it is connected to the modem but the modem is not connected to the internet. However when I look over at the modem all of the lights are on and flashing like they should be. The DSL light is on and the Internet light is flashing to show that it's working. Furthermore if I go into the setup page for the modem using my browser the status page there also tells me that the DSL is connected and that the LAN is connected as well.

This happens randomly and when it does I attempt to correct this myself by changing my static IP settings and DNS server settings. Eventually it does start working again but I don't know if it is because of something I actually fixed or by random luck. I hope you guys here can help me figure out this problem.
