Slow, stuttering internet with VERY laggy games

Q: Slow, stuttering internet with VERY laggy games

Usually my internet connection is fine, surfing is good and playing games on my PS3 is quick and smooth. For the past few weeks however my connection has become a slow, stuttering/laggy mess and when I play COD I have the worst connection stats and I am usually chucked from a game.

Where do I start with my investigations? I do know there is no general issue with broadband in my area.

Would you guys need some stats from me to order to help?

Preferred Solution: Slow, stuttering internet with VERY laggy games

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey Everyone,

First time posting here so be gentle. I am having difficulties with audio which has stemmed back for some time almost a year before i started buying new hardware to "correct" the problem. I have read over many posts about stuttering/laggy/jittery audio, but none seem to give me an answer. When i play Bioshock, Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour, or even Half Life have a static-clangy echoey sound to them. It is quite the disturbing sound to hear and i cant help but think of Michael Keaton in the movie White Noise, but worse sounding static... Anywho I cant simply exit out of the program (Bioshock for example) and restart the program because the sound remains the same. I recently upgraded my system, and my sound card choice from Creative X-FI (which also had the problem) to an ASUS XONAR DX. I had thought this was strictly a sound card issue at the time when I purchased the Xonar last week. I was wrong.

This cant just be a sound card issue can it? Could it be that my 500Watt PSU isnt enough for all my nice new equipment AND my sound card?

I dont have hardware acceleration available to me through my speaker setup btw.
I appreciate any/ALL support from you all.

Have you removed the creative Audio Panel from add/remove programes? Even if you have a creative product installed I still find that sometimes it interferes with the sound quality.

For some reason, all my games are either not working or running very poorly since I followed some steps on a youtube video to remove malware, I believe most of it is gone, but theres a program in task manager that ignores me when I end task, so I know theres something still there. Its called sirdhcgsvc and when I look at file location it is in the system 32 folder. Sometimes I end task doesnt even work on chrome. But all the noticable malware or virus is removed. Any ideas on what I should do? I 've also attached my fixlog.txt.

Hi, ok so this computer is a home made mother **** that has been giving me nothing but love since I finished it this summer... the problem is all of a sudden all of my games are lagging and I don't know why.

the Operating system is 64-bit Vista

I use Kapersky Anti Virus and Spy Bot Search and Destroy andi spyware.

The main problems I've been having are with Steam and all the games that go with it but if you guys don't find anything suspicious in my log files I'll go to them next.
Also I tried using the second log system, Root Repeal, but it says it doesn't work with 64-bit vista.

So also since I couldn't use Root Repeal, I decided to throw in a Hijack this Log to compensate for the lack of data.

Oh a few more things, I'm on a Netgear Wireless N router system, with a netgear wireless card plugged into the back of this. My brother also has his computer hooked up to the router and I'm a little suspicious that he's the one sucking up all the internet.
Also I called my internet provider, Comcast, and they did some ping tests confirming that the network modem was working at 100% efficiency.

i've been having some major lag problems on a few games (not all) which other players i chat with on ventrilo are not having. ventrilo experiences no lag while a game using port 4000 spikes every few seconds often disconnecting me. this lag was not a problem a week ago, now it's driving me nuts! i believe it is spyware. i did some scanning using kaspersky, ewido, spybot, and adaware. they came up with some problems, all of which i fixed (supposedly). recently ran a rootkit revealer scan and came up with a nice long list. its 12 megs or so, so i'll wait for clarification on how i would post it. here's my hjt log, ewido log, and activescan log.

Well for the past 4-5 months I've been experiencing internet that seems to continue to get slower and slower and it'll lag me out of online games most of the time. It really seems like the connection just completely stops anywhere from a second to even 10-20 seconds sometimes and it'll take forever to load webpages sometimes too. We have replaced both our modem (now a linksys) and router (now a belkin) and still have been experiencing these problems. Seems like after our old router broke that it stopped working right and just gets worse and worse. Also the light for modem goes yellow quite often which I believe means that it's having trouble working right. Oh and my ISP is Cox and we have yet to have them look at it but we have called about the issues we were having. Any help?

Hi, I had this strange problem ever since I use FireFox. Changing to version 3.6 didn't help.

Having this frozen screen (for 1 sec) every couple of seconds was very annoying while watching videoclips on YouTube for example.

Even when using the plain browser functions like scrolling, it lagged.

Just today I found something that finally helped me to get rid of that problem completely.
Open FF ► navigate to about:config ► put into the filter: browser.cache .memory.enable ► set to false by a double click ► restart FF

A:FireFox laggy / stuttering at video playback ?

Hi, I'm sorry to say that, but it seems the problem has not disappeared really.

In the beginning it looked fine, but after a while it starts lagging again. That's very annoying, not only while watching video streamings, but also during everything else.
Even typing a comment like this, the delays appear constantly.

Well, I will research some more but if nothing helps, I'm going back to IE again.

I am using Windows XP and have had my netbook for about 2.5 years. Over the weekend, I noticed a drastic slowdown. Originally, it was while watching television shows online. Whether on hulu.com or huludesktop.com or nbc.com, they all would play a minute or so and stop and then another and then stop, with audio ending up unsynchronized with the video. After that frustration, I started noticing the computer itself seemed slow. Just switching tabs, minimizin windows, et cetera. Now I am worried that I might have picked up some sort of virusy-like substance because I was browsing some seemingly sketchy sites before it started.

What I have tried so far: restarting, different browsers, a different profile, running Spybot, Malware Bytes, and Avira. I checked my msconfig and regedit (under Run for trojans, but did not check anything else in there). I have a HijackThis log, but no idea how to read it (and noticed this forum said not to post it).

Hello everyone!

I have a Sony Vaio Desktop/PC (Windows 10) and I have an issue that's been going on for the past two days.
I was playing Team Fortress 2 and my wireless mouse just randomly shuts off apparently. So, I turned off the mouse and changed the battery AA thinking the battery was dead. I turned the mouse back on and the pointer is still not on the screen. So, I restart my computer and the mouse is still not working. So, after a little bit of messing around, I change the battery once more. It now works! But... it's laggy and stuttering and the pointer doesn't move where it's supposed to smoothly. Here are the things I did to try to fix it:

1. Changed Batteries 3 times.
2. Went to "Device Manager" and and uninstalled the driver of the mouse (so when I restarted the PC, it would reinstall the driver.)
3. Used every hardware troubleshooter on the PC.
4. Used the Sony Vaio website step-by-step to disconnect and reconnect the mouse.

That's all I can think of at the moment. Mind you, this is not the first time the mouse just randomly disconnects, but usually, I just restart the PC and it's all working again. Thank you for reading!

A:My Mouse is laggy, stuttering and doesn't move where it's supposed to.

I don't know if there's anything in the mouse properties area that might help, but that might be something to check.

I am having issues with my internet. It is very frustrating because I occasionally appear to solve the problem and the internet becomes very slow and loses connection temporarily. Sometimes a couple times a day this occurs where the internet gets really slow and some pages load halfway and occasionally the internet just goes out all together. This issue is particularly odd because it appears that my laptop is the only one that gets this issue. There are two other laptops that do not appear to have this issue using the same connection. I have previously tried updating my drivers and other windows updates. I have also reset my router settings, moved my laptop to a different locations, changed channels on my router, and none have worked as of yet.

Any ideas to solutions for this issue would be largely appreciated.

Thank you.

Hello, thanks for taking your time to read my post.

My laptop has become increasingly slow, and my internet browser freezes, lags, shuts down etc.....

I followed all steps in this thread.... http://www.techsupportforum.com/f284...ow-532075.html .... but it's still slow.

I feel it runs deeper than just malware/viruses, but I'll leave that up to you experts to discover. The reason I think it's deeper that that is because I received a call from "Windows" saying I'd downloaded something malicious. I didn't trust these people so I done a google on it and turns out it's a scam of some sort. I won't post links but if you feel the need then google "Just got a call from Windows" or "Just got a call from Microsoft".
Anyway, the folders they got me to look into a lot of the stuff had Errors or exclamation marks on them.
If you want I'd be happy for someone here to have a look using team viewer to see if I have a big problem.

Anyway, here are the logs etc that are required according to the sticky...
(I zipped the files as it said, but it still looked like a winrar folder, so if it's wrong I'll try again)

Thanks again.

My computer specs are as follows:

AMD64 3000+
512mb ddr333 RAM
ASRock Dual-SATA2 motherboard
XpertVision Geforce 6800GS 512mb
currently using mobo's onboard sound card

Games are pretty choppy ingame, even older ones like Soldier of Fortune 2 and Men of Valor. Any idea what's causing the lag? Someone over at guru3d suggested it could be my graphics card failing, but I've never experienced artifacts before, nor did I OC my card at all. Someone else suggested it could be because I'm using the onboard sound card

What do you guys think? I'm worried that the fault may lie with my graphics card. Oh if it's any help at all too, when I start up windows, during the Windows XP bootup (the black screen with the windows xp logo in the center), my screen will refresh itself once during the loading, before windows starts up. And whenever I click on the small Geforce icon that lets you change screen resolutions etc in the bottom right corner (beside the clock), the screen refreshes itself again. Is this normal?

Hey, well I have a problem with pretty much any game I play. They almost all lag the crap out. I can get minecraft and terraria to work fine but if I try to play anything else (ex. Team fortress2, gothem imposters, or from dust) they are so laggy I can not even play them also if I turn on my screen recorder (fraps) to record minecraft that lags too much to. I heard I may need to get a video card or something but I don't know all the technical stuff about computers

What I do know is that I have windows 7, I have 12gbs of ram(I tried upgrading that to solve the problem and it didn't work too well) and I believe I have some sort of duo prosseser and verison fios. If you need more info to help I can try to look it up for you

Thank you in advance.

Hi ,  I bought my lenovo G50-80 (i7 , 4 GB RAM , AMD RADEON M330 , windows 10) back in November . At first the only issue I had was with playing videos(offline&online) after watching half a movie my pc usually froze , made an annoying sound and I had to restart it everytime . I  recently fixed the issue by changing some options in the Power Management settings ,before figuring out the issue I've reinstalled my windows 6-7 times . Games were always running smoothly even on high resolution . Recently , since I last changed y windows ,my laptop has developed another issue :  whenever I try playing a game (like Heroes of the Storm , Prototype or NFS Hot pursuit ) everything seems to be going fine in the menus but once I start playing instantly I start lagging to the point where I can see frames every 2-3 seconds . I have all my drivers up-to-date and I've also reinstalled Direct X , framenet and C++ redistributable to see if it would fix the issue , no changes .Does anyone have any idea on how I might get this issue solved ?  Thanks

If simple graphic apps like prototype would lag the performance even after Windows 10 factory install with all updates , probable best to check on the hardwares.
While running the program you can launch the diagnostics to best place a stress test on the devices.
You can run both diagnostics LSC and another temperature monitoring software similar to this.
Update us at it goes or call in tech support for recommendation specially if there's a remarkable error / findings as the test reveals .

Hey everyone, I've had Steam for quite a while now. I used to play it all the time until April. In April, I think that was when Counter Strike:Source updated and the game started getting laggy. I've tried absolutly everything I could think of and what Steam has told me to do. I've updated all drivers on my video card and sound card and BIOS on the motherboard. I've figured out that it's not a internet thing because this has happened on my friend's cable connection. I know its not internet also because it happens to me on Half Life 2 when I play, but mostly when there's action going on. I've turned down my hardware acceleration, didn't work. I ran the diagnostics from Steam, i disabled ATI Hotkey Poller and that didn't work. I can't install Omega drivers because I have Windows XP Pro x64. I don't think its my OS because when I had regular Pro, it was the same. I've completely reinstalled my whole computer with everything and it still does this. I'm really sure its the software because it doesn't do this in BF2, while I'm running everything High there. I tried running 3dmark to give some support there, but my cpu keeps overheating and shutting down before I get a score. I've gone to pcpitstop.com and they say I have poor video and poor cpu performance. I'm running a P4 640 3.2ghz w/HT using the 64 bit on a ECS RS400-A with a Radeon x850 xt. Hello everyone. I had a lot of help the last time I was having computer problems, so I decided to come back now that I have a new problem.

Recently, while playing games, I have been experiencing way too much lag than I should be. This is a fairly new computer that I had since last Christmas and before recently, it was performing wonderfully. But, recently, while trying to play games, games that I know my system can handle no problem, I'm having an awful time with lag.

The problem I'm having the most with is the MMO City of Heroes. My last computer, which was far inferior, would run the game like a dream. Now, for some reason, this computer is running it very choppy. This is just one example. I've tried multiple games, but this is the one I really want fixed.

I've done virus scans (I have Kaspersky) Spyware (Spyware Doctor) emptied temp files and defragged, and it isn't helping in the slightest. I have a very fast internet connection. Verizon fiber optic. So, I know speed isn't the issue with my current game. I do speed tests often, and it runs like a dream.

Let's see...I am running Windows XP. My processor is a Intel 1.8 Core Duo. I have an Nvidia 8600 or 8500 or something. I can't remember which. And I have 2 gigs of ram. I really hope I've given enough information.

Please help! Thank you so much for your time before hand. I hope you can help.

Ok i have never had problems running games such as shadows of mordor and skyrim before now on ultra settings. im running on a asus with a nvidia geforce gtx 860m on windows 8 (any further specs ill post if needed)

well i was playing shadows of mordor and went out, forgetting that the charger was not plugged in, came back the game had shut off prob due to inactivity or something, anyways i plugged up (because i was at 10% and started the game and low and behold i went from 50+ fps to 10.

I figured that maybe for some strange reason it was because it was almost dead, so i waited and let it charge, i come back when at 99% and try again, again slow as christmas. i figure what the heck ill cut the graphics down for some reason its not running but no. it will no longer run playable at any setting. ran it through restarts, malware scans, a full defrag. nothing

I stopped playing shadows of mordor and just gave up around a week ago. assuming it was a lost cause until now.

I started back on skyrim and was playing that for the past ween with no problems

I woke up this morning and pulled out my laptop, expecting to play skyrim, it was almost dead so i hooked up the charger and started it up, and my surprise when i realized that i was again around 15 fps instead of my normal 55-60 plus.

Again i tried everything including dropping setting etc. but nothing is working im really frustrated right now, the only thing i can find in common with the two cases is that they were both almost ... Read more

Hi everyone,

I just hope someone can help me here. Here's my prob :

I've worked with PCs for like 15 years now so I know a bit but this stupid problems is having me go nuts.

In some games, especially NHL 2003, I get choppy/slow game play. Even if I play against the PC locally, I get a slow game. If I choose to play someone on-line well, of course, it's worst.

My PC is : AthlonXP 1900+, 512Mb DDR Ram, GeForce4 128Mb vid card, Microsoft SideWinder Plug & Play, ViewSonic 15" monitor.

Dont get me wrong I should'nt lag with a pc like that. My friend has a pc way under mine and the gaming is running super smooth. Even wiith MSN MEssenger running in the background.

I tried everything, from changing my entire pc, trying another gamepad, updating ALL my drivers, etc.. I dunno what it is.

The only things I did'nt touch nor changed are : The power switch where my pc is connected and my monitor. Could these be the problem ?

i encounter very low frame rate when i play games using Nvidia physX like mirror's edge (the game runs on 7 frames per second only)
When i turn off the physX from game options frame rate is about 45
The problem is that some other games like metro 2033 doesn't allow you to turn off PhysX making the game unplayable
Is there any way to overcome this problem
*system specs below*

A:Games using Nvidia physX are very laggy

Your Nvidia GT 610m really isn't designed to handle PhysX. It is to be expected that your games run slowly with it turned on.

My computer is a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro

8gb ram
Core i54210U 2.40 Ghz
Intel HD graphics

when playing Metro apps such as pinball FX2, or Dungeon Hunter 4 or Six Guns, the frame rate is playable but not smooth.

Once in a while, the frame rate suddenly improves dramatically for a few seconds, like no lag at all, before going back to the lower frame rate.

I'm assuming the higher frame rate is a sign that my computer is capable of playing these games at a better fps.

what can I do to achieve these higher frame rates with my existing hardware?

I've tried setting priorities in the task manager to no effect.

I've updated to latest drivers from lenovo website, and performance has improved slightly.

A:Metro games gives laggy but sometimes good fps

what resolution are you running at? lowering it will help, especially since you have Intel graphics.

what brand / model video card are you using??

Read other 2 answers

First off my computer is a Dell Latitude C640 with XP Pro. Despite its age I have never had any problem watching videos or streaming audio offline. Now it is laggy. If i watch a video it will every so often skip and jump. I then listened to a local radio station that is streamed offline and I get the same thing. Lag. All video does it, FOX on demand, any Amazon video on demand I have and even YouTube!

Now Before you go saying its my internet connection I will say this. I thought of that but knew it could not be. For one thing I have watched videos before and never had that problem. Also I am using my Colleges internet connection so yes it has enough bandwidth. Then there is the fact that it is not just video online. It is also video offline. Downloaded Amazon on Demand skips, ripped DVD's too and when I watch it on DVD it skips too.

It recently started about Sunday. If it helps I installed a few programs prior to this problem.
1)Video LAN http://www.videolan.org/
Been uninstalled since2)MS Office 2007 (highly doubt this is a problem)
3)Service Pack 3 was installed Sunday night(automatic update) I have my suspicions that this is the cause of it.

Hope someone can help. Thanks in advance.

A:All Video and Audio Laggy. Games Too

Service packs always have problems and they also are trying to fix problems that their original genius didn't cover and suspect. WIth Microsoft.. who knows. I will say that the VLC player is the best for all around video and almost the only thing I use and I'm pretty knowledgeable of video and converting, etc. At 1st reading I suspected the internet connection but as you state it does this offline then defintiely not. You're problem could be many things honestly due to the large number of prgrams invloved with video and sound and also the different things you have entered into the equation. You very well might have a completely innocent sounding potential problem that's causing all of your problems. Your newly install Office 07 could be hogging up your resources and lagging your system. But it's made by Microsoft so doesn't shock me. MS loves sucking up every bit opf resources you have and then blow you off when you need help. ANd their help sites are total bs. Remove Office 07 and run a registry cleaner. Install Revo Uninstaller to do this and also use to remove most of your startup programs that are lagging your system. Too long to explain but look up services that don't need to run or be automatic.

Hey everyone!
I'm new here so sorry if this is the wrong section or something. Basically I'm having stuttering issues within some games. I noticed this when I first installed Mirrors edge. Every 10 seconds or so the game will freeze for half a second. It gets worse as I play on and is eventually happening every few seconds. I thought it was a problem with this game alone until I downloaded Dead Space 3 and the same thing happened.

Here are my main specs:
Intel i7 2600
Gigabyte GTX 580
8gb of RAM
Gigabyte z68-xp-ud3

If anybody could suggest some ways to fix this that would be great.

Thanks in advance!

Hi I'm having an annoying issue with some games with stuttering when my system seems to be more than capable of running them. Here are some of the games that have this issue whilst playing them: Crysis , Metro last light , Red faction guerilla (<--very rarely stutters) Deus ex human revolution , BF4 , Watch dogs and world of tanks.
Yes I understand that some of those games are old and It also could be because of in-game loading but its strange because it is not happening to anyone else and I have tried nearly everything to fix this issue (I play these games on a gaming laptop with a mobile GPU etc...) but It still persists so Is there any solutions and reasons to why this happens and is there anything I could turn down in the video menu of these games at could be causing them to stutter? Here are my main specs
CPU: i7 4700MQ
GPU: Geforce GTX 765M
Running these games on a gaming laptop (with no SSD if that has anything to do with it) and hope to get this fixed. Thanks

I have recently encountered the same problem on my computer as of yesterday. Playing ESO i used to play on high settings no problems, now am on medium and it stuttering with my fps still at 80-100.

Was playing yesterday my keyboard starting being glitchy, restarted computer and keystrokes would not read but other things like caps lock would. I restored to factory settings using on screen keyboard, then when windows reloaded I could not even put keystrokes in to enter my computer name for setup. Magically it worked out of the blue out of many restarts etc. I have now reset to factory settings, cleared ram, disabled fw, ran superantispyware and clear, nothing running in background, drivers are up to date.

No idea what is going on, any help would be awesome. Seems the stutter gets worse the longer i play.

Sounds like a hardware or heat related issue. My first thought would be the power supply.

You should be able to check the voltages in the BIOS (unless Dell locked that page).

Hi everyone,

I have a REALLY annoying problem with my PC.

When I play computer games I will get frequent half second pauses/stutters. It happens every 10 seconds or so, and i'm not certain but i THINK it's when a game plays a sound file.

What makes it all the more strange is that when i played the Guild Wars 2 beta it didn't happen AT ALL, yet on games like League of Legends and Guild Wars 1 it happens non-stop.

I have tried alot of different ideas that i've found on various gaming tech-help forums over the past few months; i've updated my audio and video drivers, I've parked and unparked CPUs, i've allocated a game to a specific CPU, i've reinstalled directx, i've made sure windows updates are all up to date, i've checked the temperature of my PC, etc.

Does anybody have ANY idea what might be causing this? I've never updated my BIOS because I can't find out how to do it, where to do it, or even if to do it. I got the PC second hand a year ago.

I get used to it after a while, but when my boyfriend is at work I play on his PC, and then coming back to mine in the evening just annoys me!

Try following this: Is your PC running slow...?

Read other 6 answers

Hey everyone, I have been trying to play a few games on my laptop recently, and I've noticed the oddest thing. Take Dungeon Siege 2 for example; I start the game up, graphics are set to high, and the game runs smooth as butter. About 5 minutes go by and then I hit a massive lag spike, my frame-rate drops from 40 to 10. This lasts for about another 5minutes then... its back to being smooth again? It will keep doing this switch back and forth constantly. The game only uses about 400mb of ram, and even when its being laggy, lowering the graphics to bare-bones doesn't make the slightest difference.

I tried setting the core affinity to 1, 2 or both, that doesn't seem to make anything better. I tried raising the app priority, but vista keeps reseting it i think. And oddly, by minimizing the game and waiting about 30seconds, the game will go back to being smooth again.
