Two iTunes Issues - Unable to Open & Unable to Uninstall?

Q: Two iTunes Issues - Unable to Open & Unable to Uninstall?

Since starting to run Windows 8.1 a couple of weeks ago I have been unable to open iTunes, Getting the messages. 'The program can't start because MediaToolbox.dll is missing form your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem' & 'iTunes was not installed properly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 126)'.

When I try to uninstall iTunes I get this message 'The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'iTunes6464.msi in the box below'

I have no idea what to do to resolve either problem. I'm not very technical so very simple language would be greatly appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Guys,
I'm sure you guys have read this same type of question a million times, but here I go anyway. I have not had any problems with quicktime or itunes in the past. In fact yesterday I was on itunes without problems. But I literally woke up today and was unable to access itunes on my computer. Noone else has access to my computer. I have complete virus, spyware, etc. protection. When I click on itunes I get the following message: This action is only valid for products that are currently installed. So after some agravation I decided to try and uninstall quicktime and itunes so I could start over, but I was unsucessful. When I go to add/remove programs, locate quicktime, and click on remove I get a message in the windows installer box that basically states: the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable....click ok to try again or enter an alternate path...blah blah blah. I have tried to research the problem, and have also tried some of the solutions, but to no avail nothing is working. For example I have gone to the search window and typed in quicktime and tried to delete any quicktime "links." I have deleted it from my c: drive. I have gone to "run" and typed in something like regetit (not sure if that is it--can't remember). Oh, and before I did all those things I did do a system restore. All in all I'm sure I have made the situation worse. Could someone please help me out? And if so, could you use step b... Read more

I recently installed the Anniversary Update and I tested some apps to see if they work. I tried to open Wifi Analyzer and it immediately crashes after opening. After trying to open it multiple times I decided to reinstall. I uninstalled it but my internet went down so I wasn't able to connect to the store. Then I revert to the previous build 10586.545 for personal reasons.

The All Apps list somehow has that app on the list. I couldn't open it and it wouldn't let me uninstall. Once I got internet I went to the store and it says it is installed, but there is no open button.

I am having two problems with itunes. I am unable to download the most recent download 10.6.3 and have been unable to do so since 10.6.1. It says errors occurred while installing the updates. If the problems persist choose Tools>Download Only and try installing manually. When I do, I end up with "error writing to file:C:\Config.Msi\2456585e.rbf" and have no idea what that means.
I am also unable to burn any cds. When I try to, it say disc burner or software not found. I have burned cds in the past.

1. I'd uninstall the cd burner you are using, uninstall all itunes software, then use ccleaner to run cleaner.

I need help with two different issues which might be related:

1. I am unable to uninstall game Dynomite Deluxe (downloaded off the internet). When I try to do that from the Add/Remove programs, I get the following message:
"Parsing failed: unable to open file Deluxe/Install.log"

2. Whenever I turn the computer on, and attempt to open ANY programs such as Microsoft word or an Internet Explorer, any of these programs close whenever i hit on either the minimize button or the close button. The internet explorer appears to load for about two minutes (i receive the message: "Detecting your proxy settings").

I also observed that whenever i move the cursor to the task bar on the desktop during the above mentioned issue # 2, I see an hour glass and until the hour glass disappears, I can not use any programs (they stall on me, or as metnioned before, they simply close when i minimize the screen).

If anyone has any idea on how to resolve these issues, I would greatly appreciate it.

I use Microsoft Windows XP home edition Version 2002. Dell Dimension Pentium 4, CPU 3.06GHz.

I am using Windows 7 Home Premium.
About four weeks ago I opened my Task Manager when my computer seemed to be working harder than it should have been. I noticed the CPU Usage dip from ~45% to ~20% which was still ~7% higher than the individual processes added up. Once I clicked "Show processes from all users," the individual CPU Usages added up to the total usage, without any noticeably new processes. This occurred what seemed like every time I used my computer, with different programs, or combinations of programs, running - until I got in the habit of opening my task manager upon start up and monitoring the processes always so they will at least stay accurate, and lower.
I interpreted this to be the beginning of my problem.
I began running frequent scans with Avast, and discovered that Avast was unable to carry out any actions on the files it found to be infected. I would manually delete them just to be safe. There were around 10 (forgive my bad memory, it has been a month). Most were low risk, a few Google Chrome Temp Files if I remember correctly, and 4 "Severe Threats." All I can remember about those is that they had containing folders with verrrry long names comprised of a series of numbers, letters, dots, and underscores within the Windows folders (not system32). There were two folders, and two files in each. They folders were the same up until the last set of 7 or so numbers. The files were the same type with the same names in each (one started with a 'w'... I've tried SO many threads and techniques to fix this, but I'm unable to, this has been a VERY deep rabbit hole I've traversed and can't find my way back out.

Let's start at the beginning...

I stopped auto installing updates because I had issues with doing so in the past, so my windows updates stacked up for a bit. (I know, I suck!)

I started installing them all last month and found 4 that would not install, a couple of them seem to be serious and my friend recommend I get them fixed.

Anybody, help! Quite desperate as this is affecting my work.

Sometime ago, I installed AGV as there seemed to be lil bugs in my comp that Norton could not get. AGV managed to detect and delete these bugs, but not all problems were solved. Norton's subscription was up and I was still quite peeved about Norton's inability to help...so I uninstalled it. Since then, there were more problems...

1) I'm unable to run help from Start...or msconfig from Start/Run or system restore. The error message is that it can't find the file. Even when I go to explorer to double-click the file directly, it still won't run.

2) I'm unable to open ANY file with MS word or powerpoint. It would say that the file is unavailable. It would also prompt me to replace existing normal.dot file. I'm unable to do the detect and repair, it would say error 1706...I do not have the installation CD with me anymore!

3) I'm unable to run any online virus scan (Trend, Panda...) even after I made changes to the security settings to allow for ActiveX.

4) I'm tried to reinstall Norton, but it can't run. It says 'CFGWIZ.EXE - Unable to locate component. . . . cctrust.dll was not found.'

I do run Spybot, Adaware, AGV, Winaso regularly.

Please help...thanks!

Hello everyone,
I am writing you today to ask you to help my laptop. The issue was that after I downloaded some software last saturday, it left my computer acting strange, I can't open my anti-virus, Windows Defender or some other software like Hijack This.
I recently followed some guides involving the use of anti-viruses like Malwarebytes, Spyware Terminator, but the only who could find a couple of trojans, is Kaspersky. But in the end it only eliminated those trojans and my PC still can not open Windows Defender or my anti-virus, Webroot.
Please help me. I also included the report made by Farbar.

Hi All,

My apologies if similar threads have been posted already, but having trawled the internet, I'm stuggling to find an answer to the problem I have my Dad's PC.

My Dad has bought a PC from Mesh computers in the UK with Vista Home Premium (32Bit I believe) pre-installed and with his account set up as an admin. I went around to set it all up for him, get him on broadband etc and that's where the problems started...

Without connecting to the internet, I attempted to install Norton Internet Security 2008 (Vista approved edition) which got half way through installation before erroring about "failing to initialize". The install had half worked (the firewall was up a running) so I connected myself to the internet (using the Windows firewall as well) to see what the problem was.

From that point, it all started going downhill. I couldn't install NIS 2008 (even after a "LiveInstall" seemingly from the internet), but then Vista functionality stopped working. Certain items in the control panel would no longer open, such as "User Accounts" and "System", clicking on "Windows Update" from the START bar would flash up a window for a split second before closing and clicking to update "Windows Defender" gave an error message about not being able to update at all.

Around the same time, the pre-installed sidebar gadgets (a clock and some pictures) magically removed themselves from the sidebar and I can no longer add items... Read more

A:Unable to open certain items in Control Panel + Update / Sidebar Issues

I have the same problem with my sister's laptop. It's an MSI VR220 with built in Windows Vista? Home Premium installed.

there was pre-installed the Norton Internet Security 2008 and I uninstalled it (I allso run the Norton removal tool). Some days after I noticed that many items from the control panel do not open (the window apears blank for a sec, and it desappears). Some of these are: personalize menu, network & sharing center, Windows Update (Updates seems that are installed ok though..), Users accounds, System, Sideshow, Speech Recognition, Autoplay, power options.

I haven't found any real workaround,

Hello jason & welcome to SevenForums!

Have you been trying to deleting this program by deleting the folder in the DATA path? It would probably fail after trying to uninstalling in the control panel then.
Try looking for the path and see if it's there!

Also, try this well popular software, for a perfect uninstallation of a software:

Revo Uninstaller

Don't know what it is, but it's got me all jacked up. Started getting the "Generic Host process for Win32 has encountered a problem..." message, then Chrome quit opening anything except the home page, Opera quit opening anything at all, IE works occasionally if address is typed; search engine results are usually redirected to odd pages--very seldom the same page twice. Safari works, but keeps opening new windows if it sits longer than 3 or 4 minutes with any activity. Now computer varies between operating fine and dragging drastically. Add/Remove Programs screen only populates about 50% of the time. Never a second time without rebooting. When it is up, no obvious programs show up. Avast finds nothing, MalwareBytes shows nothing.

Any help will be appreciated. I have limited time on computer right now due to long work days, but will check every couple of days for updates.

iTunes was working great. I could browse album covers - no problem.

I decided to ad a new hard-drive for all the music - moved My Documents to F: (from c: ) and ever since then I cannot browse artwork.

Many people get this error and there are many causes but none seem to work for me.
Hardware acceleration is full.
Ditect x is updated.
Video drivers updated.
Resolution is 1024 x 768 - 32 bpp.

Anybody else have any suggestions?

A:ITunes -Itunes is unable to browse album covers...

I'm a little unclear on what your problem is. Do you mean you no longer have album art? Or you are unable to get any for new albums through iTunes? What happens if you right click on the album in Cover Art view and tell it to get album artwork?

Whatever I do to update java 6.0.18 to 6.0.20, I get the same error code:
"1606, could not find network location :. " (It is a stand alone computer, and no network installation.)
I get this message with online update by jucheck
I get it with online update with jxpiinstall.exe
It get it with the offline installer : jre-6u20-windows-i586-s.exe

And even more comprehensible, I get this error message if I try to uninstall Javan6.0.18
(I thought I make a clean installation after, but that is impossible too.)
the update from 6.017 to 6.018 went easy without any manual handling required.

I use: Vista sp2, on a Acer Aspire 5810T

hey guys im new to the forum and hoping i can get help. i too have downloaded the new i tunes 9 and have had problems installing.
when i install it gets about halfwy through and comes up:

an error occured during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft. VC80. CRT version "8.0.50727.4053", type="win32" ,publicKeyToken ="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b" ,process or Architecture ="x86" Please refer to help and support for more information HRESULT: 0x80070020

so you click ok, then it says rolling back and starts installing again.
after a few goes it said you have successfully installed i tunes but when you click finish then an error message comes up saying:

Apple Application Support was not found.
Apple Application Support is required to run iTunes helper. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again.
Error 2.

i have tried again and again, also re downloaded the file again (from apple) wondering that maybe it may have been a crap download but still no lock.
i have made sure all old programs to do with apple have been uninstalled.

A:Unable to install iTunes?

A quick Google search for 'HRESULT: 0x80070020' has turned up a couple of links talking about how an action 'cannot be completed because the file is in use by another process'. I think there is a post by one user suggesting that their anti-virus was conflicting with the installation. Try disabling your anti-virus (if you have any installed) and see if this makes any difference.

Failing this perhaps you could check Windows Task Manager and the Windows Services section and see if there are still any iTunes-related services installed and/or running that may not have been uninstalled properly last time. Also check your 'Program Files' directory and see if there is still anything related to iTunes present in the relevant sub-directory that may not have been deleted.

Hope this helps.

I decided to try iTunes as a media player for my music files, and attempted to download it from the Apple website (64-bit). The download ran OK, but when I attempted the installation, it ran for a bit and then came back with this rather lengthy error message: "Could not open key: UNKNOWN/COMPONENTS/A6E6EC4B003724EB7C2B16CC3118E4"

Does anyone know what this means and what I have to do to get around it to be able to use the program?

Many thanks for any advice.

I admit I am 76 years old and find technical things a bit of a problem.
I have bought music for my Ipod several times from Itunes with no problem . I tried to buy a Flo Rida song and this is the message that keeps coming up.
Firefox doesnt know how to open this address because one of the following protocols (itmss) isnt associated with any program or is not allowed in this context.
I do not have a clue what this means. Also the Itune icon is no longer on my screen.
I would appreciate any help, thank you.

After solving my problem with QuickTime, I am back with the original problem of installing iTunes. I have Vista Home Premium 64 Bit SP2 and cannot install iTunes.
Today I downloaded the newest version from Apple's web site. Installation proceeds normally for awhile then I get the error below (it appears in box labeled " iTunes + QuickTime".

Could not open key:
UNKNOWN\Components\DA42BV89BF25F5BD0AF18C3B9B1A1EE8\7E577B2224C654E801A9E52375DB49. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.

I navigated to the key (substituting HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18 for UNKNOWN above) and found 3 instances of the key. 1 had data, 2 were empty. I deleted the 2 empty iterations. I had read about running regedit as an administrator and trying to change the permissions so that the owner was "adminstrators" instead of "system" but was unable to change the ownership (maybe because I have not uninstalled the older version of QuickTime that I used to get things working). Anyway I would like to install the 64 bit version of iTunes now but need to get past this problem. Additional info: I noticed that iTunes 64 bit selected as the install directory C:\Program Files (x86) instead of C:\Program Files. I have tried installing in each of these directories with the same results.

My system state is now that everything with iTunes in uninstalled with the exceptio... Read more

Hi, I was hoping someone could help me re-install iTunes. I'm not sure why I'm running into this problem.

When I try to run it now, I get an error that says, "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed."

When i try to reinstall iTunes with a download from the iTunes website, I also get an error saying old product cannot be removed.

iTunes is not listed in the "add/remove programs"

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I recently updated to iTunes 8 and can no longer burn cd's through iTunes. I am able to sync my ipod w/o problem, but whenever I open iTunes, I have a pop up which states: "The registry settings used by the iTunes drivders for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing...". Once I click "ok", iTunes does open, but then when I try to burn a disc, it says "Disc recording not found". I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes several times, as well as installing older versions. I have also installed gear software (as suggested in other help forums), but this did not help either. I have also tried the "repair" feature, doesn't help. Not sure if this problem is specific to Vista and the new version of iTunes or a recent update (important update per windows) installed on computer.

A:iTunes errors, iTunes not listed in Uninstall a Program to uninstall

Try downloading the iTunes installation software from the apple website.
When you go through the setup you should have an option to uninstall it or repair it. First try the repair if this dosnt fix the problem you are having uninstall it this way And reinstall it again.

When I insert a blank audio CD, and click on File/Burn in iTunes, it asks me if I want to burn an audio CD, etc., and then indicates that it is burning the first track that I have chosen. At this point it simply hangs, and after some minutes, as nothing further has occurred, I end up having to eject and dispose of the disk. Has anyone any suggestions as to what is going wrong and what I can do about it? I am using iTunes 11.03. Thanks.

Hi All,

Has anyone successfully installed iTunes on Win 8 RTM? It worked fine on the preview editions, but fails every time o. RTM. I've tried installing it using Win7 and Vista compatibility with no luck. It seems to fail when the install program tries to start the Apple services. Something must have changed between the CP and RP to RTM but I'm stumped as to what.

Any ideas are appreciated. FYI the Apple forums haven't turned up anything useful other than Windows 8 hatred from the fanboys.

did you have iTunes installed before? What happens when you try to install it? You can go to Start/Search and type appwiz.cpl right click the appwiz icon in the search results and Run As Administrator. Here uninstall any of the bundled programs with iTunes, including iTunes, Quick Time, Bon Jour, Mobile Me, and anything else Apple related, and restart the computer. Now try to install iTunes again.

I'm using a Toshiba PC, Win XP, and all Microsoft XP updates. When I try and burn a CD using Itunes, it burns a few songs, and then cancels. well, 1st off, because its happening in windows xp, i'll be moving it there, as this is the mac forum. second, what is the exact error that it is giving you? and what kind of cd are you trying to burn, and what kind of files are you trying to burn from.

I previously had iTunes installed on my laptop (see specs below), but when the newest version came out, I kept getting error messages (shown below) when I tried to update to the latest version. Therefore, I completely removed iTunes from my laptop with the goal of doing a re-install from scratch. However, I continue to receive the same error messages as before (I say "continue" because I've tried several times with the same result each time). The installation begins without any problems, but after a few seconds, I get the first error message (see below), and then when I click OK, it runs for a few more seconds, and I get the second error message (see below). I am not having any other problems with my system, and I have run several anti-malware and -virus scans to make sure the problem in not an infection. I would appreciate anyone's help in solving this problem.
And, by the way, the same thing happens when I right click the iTunes set-up icon and select "Run as Administrator".

Hi there,

I recently brought a refurbished laptop with Windows 10 installed. All Windows updates have been installed and I have the latest version of ITunes, yet it doesn't install properly. I get the error 2 message, and I have tried numerous solutions: repairing; uninstalling and deleting program files (and recycle bin) then reinstalling; extracting the setup file and running the missing component by itself; running all the components one at a time...nothing works.

When I run the original setup file, whilst it says ITunes has been successfully installed, I notice that none of the other components have been installed with it (i.e. no Bonjour, no Apple Mobile Device Support, no Apple Application Support and no Apple Software Update). I am getting extremely fed up. All the articles and solutions I've read seem to go no further than 2015. Am I the only one that is still having this issue???

Any help greatly appreciated!

I recently got a new iPhone and followed instructions to get it set up on my PC. I already had an older (version 11.x) installed and it asked me to update stating that the version I had was not compatible. So I used the inbuilt updater to do so. This failed to complete and stated the following during installation when it got the the part stating starting services "Service 'Apple Mobile Device Service' (Apple Mobile Device Service) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient priviliges to start system services."

Now, I am the only user account on this PC and it is an administrator account. I have tried FULLY uninstalling all Apple software following the instructions given here https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204275 and attempted to reinstall again by running the installer as administrator and I still get the same fault.

Now, the fault gives me three options "Abort" - if I click this, it cancels the installation but still leaves Apple folders installed (bonjour, apple updater etc) but not itunes.

Retry - this just runs in circles attempting to start the services and fails repeatedly giving this error,

Ignore - this allows me to bypass this error but does not successfully install iTunes as when the process completes it says "Congratulations, iTunes has been successfully installed on your computer" but when i click finish, it gives another two error boxes saying "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. E... Read more

I have been trying to install iTunes on my 64bit machine for quite some time now. I had the application installed earlier, but I uninstalled it some time last year I think (can't remember exactly).

Now that I tried to install it again, it gave me an error saying "There is a problem with this Windows installer package. A program required to run this installer...........". I searched online, and came to a conclusion that there is a problem with the Apple Software Update. I couldn't find anything in my Programs and Features list in the Control Panel. I tried running Microsoft Fix It, to no avail.

Then, I stumbled upon this thread here at SevenForums Unable to install iTunes Tried that solution, but none of the Apple software was listed in the list, and after the procedure the error message I was getting changed to (screenshot). After getting the first error, the installation would roll back and try to install again. Then I get the second message. Notice that the key being referred to is different in both cases. Then roll back, install again, and back to square one, the error I started out with.

The iTunes installer is a packaged installer comprising of individual setups of the various components - it can be extracted using winRAR. In alphabetical order, they are

2. AppleMobileDeviceSupport64
3. AppleSoftwareUpdate
4. Bonjour64

You are running installer as Admin?

Check System file integrity: SFC -SCANNOW Command

If necessary try a Repair Install.

If you are still running the bloated HP preinstall which is itself a major corruption of Win7, then I'd join most other tech enthusiasts who Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 to experience Win7 as it's meant to be. It is always better than getting a new PC, considering the effect of the pre-installed crapware and useless factory utiltiies which have much better versions built into Win7.
