Charging issue on Lenovo G500s (Please help me....)

Q: Charging issue on Lenovo G500s (Please help me....)

I had bought Lenovo G500s laptop around 2 years back.It was working fine till now.Problem is whenever I start playing games on my laptop, charging light starts blinking red while still on charging.Does this mean there is some problem with the battery because it works fine normally but as soon as I do something that requires lot of CPU usage(load) it stops charging, battery status showing "Plugged in, not Charging".I am putting some points: 1. Should i I use my laptop in HIGH PERFORMANCE mode? 2. Has it something to do with the Nvidia GPU because i tried to run the game on intel integrated graphics it was lagging but charging didn't stop. 3. Is it due to internal heating of laptop that battery tries to save itself by not charging?(shall i use a cooling pad if that is the problem?)I am providing the specs of my laptop:Processor:Intel(R) Core (TM) i3-3120M [email protected] GeForce 720MRam:4GBWindows 8 64 bitPlease reply ASAP!!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've had my Lenovo since December 17, 2012, and have faced some issues before. I recently had the battery and the adapter replaced. A couple of weeks back, the laptop suddenly stopped charging. Here are the details :- Adapter was connected, and current supply was checked using a tester.- Battery was connected properly.- The power and charge light started to blink. I looked for a solution online, and almost everywhere the following steps were asked to be followed :- Shut down the laptop.- Disconnect the charger.- Take the battery out.- Press the power button for 12 sec (some said 15, some said 20-30) to ensure any residual charge is taken out.- Reconnect the charger (not the battery), and see if the laptop gets switched on on power. I followed the steps to no result. Naturally, I went to a service center, where I was informed that the Integrated Circuit on the motherboard was faulty and they'd have to replace it. I said okay, and got it repaired. This was a week ago. Now all of a sudden, the laptop is showing the similar traits. Charger is connected, but it won't charge. Again, the battery and the adapter are new and fully functional. Sometimes, when the adapter is connected, the two lights will blink and sometimes they won't, but the battery won't charge and now my laptop sits dead. What are my options?

My Lenovo G50-30 laptop has suddenly developed a funny problem.  When battery charger is introduced while laptop is on it says "plugged in but not charging" and battery keeps reducing, however battery charges when laptop is switched off. The problem has started happening from approx a 3-4 weeks back. My battery was under warranty and was replaced by Lenovo authorised center Jogeswari (West), Mumbai, India BUT still issue reamins the same.  Service center installed a software called OKO care which randomly allowed charging three times while laptop was ON. However this also did not permanently solve my problem and returned back to same issue hence un-installed software. Then had tried couple of other lenovo softwares (vantage, forgot name of anotehr one) but in vain.  Pls organise immediate help as I have exams starting September 19, 2019 and need laptop very badly for preparing and cant afford to switch off to recharge. Thank you in advance. FYI - There is no capping not to charge beyond 55-60% to safeguard battery. I have Windows 10 (64 bit OS), initial OS which came along with laptop was Windows 8.1 which automatically got upgraded to Windows 10. My laptop is always kept on auto update hence all latest updates are installed. I do not allow any unnecessary software installation.

A:Lenovo G50-30 Battery charging issue - "plugged in but not charging"

That sounds suspiciously like the laptop is in Airport Mode, which if enabled will prevent it from charging when on, yet charge when off, just like you describe.  You can find out via a command promptRight click on start and select Command Prompt (Admin)  -or- Windows PowerShell (Admin)  depending on your system configuration. At the prompt type:  powercfg /getactivescheme    and press EnterIf it comes back with something similar to the image below showing (Airplane) as the active scheme,  then that is likely the culprit. Click on Image to expandIf you find that it is enabled, at the same command prompt window type:  control powercfg.cpl   and press Enter to open the Power control panel applet, and then check to see if Airplane Mode is set as your current power plan. As a last resort, you can also type:  powercfg ?restoredefaultschemes  to reset the Windows power schemes to their default settings.  Best of luck,

Got the laptop about 2 months ago, it was working just fine till yesterday. For some reason, the laptop is not charging even when it is plugged in. It says plugged in, charging, but it discharges. It only starts actually charging again once the battery is completed exhausted, upto 0%, then the charging works fine for a few hours and it just repeats. I dont know where the actual issue is since the charging works fine once i drop  to 0%. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

So I have a Lenovo Yoga 720 that is about 2 months old which was originallly not charging when plugged in (it said it was plugged in and discharging) and it was associated with phantom taps/clicks of the touch screen all over the place. I resorted to replugging in the charger and restarting the machine to see if it would fix it and sure enough it fixed the phantom touch screen tap issue but the charging issue kind of remains. When it is plugged in the battery monitor in Windows 10 says that it is at 11 percent currently but then when I take the charger out the percentage jumps higher and says that it is at 13 percent. And the same thing happens over and over again as a repeated process. Any idea what could be the issue and what steps can be taken to fix this??

Hi I have the following problem in my G50-70 Laptop1. While charging the battery ,  sometimes power supply suddenly stops although the charger is plugged in..The behavior is totally erratic ..There is no pattern....it can stop taking power anytime and then the laptop has to draw power from battery...sometimes if i leave the laptop without using it for 3-4 days and will plug it then it will charge smoothly to 100% the battery and will work fine for few hours...but again after sometimes it will stop getting power from charger..sometimes it blinks also like after every few seconds power coming and going as if u are switching off and on the power switch but eventually it will stop getting power from charger.. 2. I tried calibrating my battery..no use. 3. I removed the battery and tried working on direct power supply ..it stopped taking power after 1 hour and switched off What i suspect is that some IC in the power suppply circuit has malfunctioned and when i'm overusing it and it gets heats up then only it stops taking power from outside...may be a capacitor or a fuse or a MOSFET..... KINDLY RESOLVE THIS ISSUE and also share Lenovo G50-70 Schematic circuit diagram for the CHARGING and battery section displaying correct amount of Voltages at every ICs output and input  so that i can check on my own.....

Hello - Have a Yoga 3 Pro that has suddenly decided not to charge. Has been working fine until recently... life of charged battery has been normal and the charging time has been normal as well. I swapped out chargers, and the new one did not work, so I'm assuming it is an issue with the connector on the laptop body. When I push the power button, the orange light blinks three times and nothing else happens. Is there any way to get this to charge, even if temporarily? Thanks in advance.

We own a Lenovo Yoga 910 and in the last couple days, it is no longer able to charge.  The battery is currently at 13%.  The following 4 situations happen when the power cable (lenovo 45w usb c that came with the laptop) is plugged into the laptop.1) The laptop does not recgonize that the power cable is plugged in at all. 2) In rapid succession, the laptop acts as if the cable is being plugged in and unplugged over and over. The power cable icon will display for about a second, then dissapear, then display, then dissapear, etc.  It will even change the brightness of the screee as it attempts to switch power modes from battery to power.  The only way to stop this behavior is to unplug the cord completely. 3) The laptop shows that the power cord is plugged in, but states that the battery is currently discharging.4) The laptop shows that the power cord is plugged in, says its charging, but the battery continues to drain even though it says it is charging. Windows 10 is fully up to date.  We have run all Lenovo software updates so all Lenovo software is up to date.  The BIOS is also up to date (the June '17 BIOS).  There have been no recent new software installations or physical impacts / changes to the laptop. I have purchaced a 3rd party charger that matches the specs of the Lenovo charger and the same 4 situations happen.  I have confirmed that the charger works to charge other devices. My Lenovo Ideapad Z-710 has a strange battery charging issue. When the laptop is turned off and plugged in, the battery charges to 100%. When I power the laptop on, the indicator light shows it is still charging, but it actually starts running off the battery and of course the battery starts discharging. When the battery runs all the way down, the laptop shuts off. I have replaced both the charger and the battery with the same results. Plugged in with battery in place and turned on: Laptop will operate as long as the battery has some charge and shuts off when battery is depleated.Plugged in with battery removed and turned on: Laptop will run all the time.Plugged in with battery in place and turned off: Battery charges to 100%Unplugged with battery in place and turned on: Laptop runs normally until battery is depleatedAny ideas on what could cause this. Hi.  I need some help with my lenovo g50-30 laptop.  The issue was, that  on the power socket a + and a gnd wire broke off, so it would not charge the battery.  I took the laptop appart and resoldered the broken wires back in place, and now the laptop is dead. No led lights no nothing.  When i was taking it appart, neither the power cord, nor the battery was connected. I checked voltage with a multimeter, and the power socket is now ok, because 20v do come to the motherboard.  Also i checked continuity on the ribbon cable, from the power button, all seams fine.   Any suggestions what might be wrong, or what i have done wrong? Thanks

Hi everyone and hello to the forum.I have got a Lenovo Yoga 2 11 with Windows 10 that at some point stopped charging and ended up with a totally flat battery. Still runs fine on the mains though. As the battery was old and weak anyway I replaced it. New battery battery was pre-charged and worked well - unfortunately it didn't charge either. It is drained and the battery icon shows ( 3% plugged in ) and nothing happens. After a lot of searching and reading it is either your charger or your battery I came across the hint to uninstall the Microsoft AC Adapter as well as the ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery. Then unplugging it and removing the battery for a little while. As a result the battery charges for a few seconds upon restart then stops.Running a battery monitor show the system voltages increases slightly and some mA going in before it stops.Windows says the drivers are up to date. And I can't find a previous driver version from the Lenovo site or else.To me it looks like this is not a hardware issue.Anyone got some ideas what I can do?All input kindly appreciated.

Now it won't charge past 87%.  What is the deal? Anyone know how to change this or is it a problem with the laptop?  Thank you.

A:Lenovo G500s FN key request

hi avernis,

Your problem migh be similar to this thread.

If you don't have the keyboard remapping feature in the BIOS, using an app called SharpKeys will allow you to switch function keys (i.e. Fn+F1 to a regular F1 key). I can't test this on the G500s as there's no available unit here in the lab but this tested and verified working on the Z400.

Give it a shot - Map Any Key to Any Key on Windows 7 / XP / Vista (works also in Windows 8)

Good day One of my clients came to me with a laptop issue She hasa Lenovo G500S Touch laptop. It sometimes freezes at the Lenovo Bios Screen. She is running Windows 7 on it as she does not like Windows 8  Now it does not happen all the time but its frustrating to her as she is not tech minded and she just wants the thing to work.  Sometimes it starts up normally and sometimes it just hangs at the Lenovo screen. I have tried removing the battery (sometimes it works) , tried resesting the bios and disabling USB boot. I have also tried to remove the hard drive and check it in another PC and its fine. When it does start then its fine. it mostly happends when she moves the laptop around or puts it in a bag and takes it out again. There are no bios updates for the Lenovo G500S touch but only for the Lenovo G500S which does not work on the Laptop. Is there anything else we can try as she has spent so much money on this laptop trying to get it repaired as she does photo editing on it and I know the warranty has expired on the laptop and at that stage she did not take out extended warranty. Is the motherboard now defective ? Please advise as I have never seen this in my IT career and now I don't think I must recommend Lenovo PCs to my clients if they are going to give these issues. I have even cleaned the RAM Slots too Looking forward to help here. Regards Roger StaceRSCOMPUTER SERVICE AND RETAIL SOUTH AFRICA.

Without seeing the notebook myself I could only state that it sounds like a connection between main board and attached daughter boards in the case. Ribbon cable, connectors and such do come loose over time. The other things that could cause this would be damages from a drop or liquid spill... But without looking at it for such I could not be certain. CB

I guess, i had also messed up UEFI/Legacy settings in BIOS earlier. But now i cannot access the BIOS at all. Can anyone provide me solution to undo the same or reset the corrupt BIOS. Probably by uploading the G500s BIOS file, so that i can flash it in my laptop. Thanks for the help in advance.

A:Cannot Access Lenovo G500s BIOS.. please help

hi starfire1801,

Welcome to the Forums.

During boot-up, if pressing Fn+F2 does allow you to access the BIOS, can you try to:
1. Remove the AC adapter and battery then press the power button for 20secs.
2. Reconnect the AC adapter and press the OneKey Recovery button. If a menu appears, choose BIOS Setup.
3. If you get the same problem, download a free copy of Windows 8 Enterprise (90day trial) and install it on the system. When you get Windows 8 up and running, try accessing theBIOs via the UEFI Firmware Settings.

Hope this helps

Hello This problem that I have is not a recently problem. It occured I think One and a half years ago for the first time. The laptop is never crashed in the three years that I have him and I'm running now Windows 8.1. Not switched yet to 10. Now the problem is getting more and more worse. So when I press the powerbutton nothing happens. It doesn't matter, I figured out, that the battery is plugged in or not or that the laptop is connected with the charger. Every time now that I want to start my laptop I need to press multiple times but not with a specific rhythm. Sometimes he will start when I press for a longer period (around 5 sec), sometimes not. So he is very inconsistance. Luckily I still manage to get him working every morning but i'm afraid that it will not lost for a long period.  Is it possible that I have a hardware problem and not a software problem?Could it be that my power button makes false contact or that it is just some dirt that got into it?Is there a way to start my laptop without using the power button? Please I need to get rid of this problem because I'm now on a exchange program in Finland for my thesis and I can't afford my laptop to not work anymore! I hope someone knows a solution but I searched on the internet with a similar problem but I didn't find anything. Kind regards David Bongartz

A:Lenovo G500s laptop will turn on only after a lot ...

Hi DavidBongartz ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

As how you describe , seems issue would be more as a mechanical on the power button.
You can also turn on the PC using the novo button ( small key next to the power item 5 page4).
This would offer normal start up to boot on Windows.

Would there be a squishy or unnatural feel with the button ?
Aside from the power button , beneath it is a power board that is shared by the lenovo button.
So if both buttons would fail, it may be the power board that is involved (item 3 page 80).

Thinking of another option , specially if you are working on an important document, to keep the battery always charge is to set the power option to just sleep instead of turning it off.

Reminder : always back up your file on a separate location other than this pc like a cloud storage or an external storage for safe keep just in case.

Update us how it works for you.

Regards

I?m sorry to hear that the ODD (Optical Disc Drive) is not reading the DVD disc in your G500s Laptop eve after the latest drivers are updated, below are the steps to check and resolve this issue:

Ensure that the DVD you are inserting is in good condition.
Open device manager by clicking on Winkey+R key together, type devmgmt.msc in the Run window and select OK.

Example:

Now under ?DVD/CD-ROM drives? right click on it and select Un-install and then restart the computer to check the issue or scan for hardware changes. To scan for hardware changes, right-click the drive and select Scan for hardware changes.

Hope this helps!!!

Hello, I am having trouble with my daughters laptop. It will only connect if I am like 5 feet from my router. This is the only laptop or device, I am having problems with. I have uninstalled and re-installed the latest drivers for the card and she is running Windows 8 64bit edtion. It has a Atheros AR9485WB-EG wireless card installed. She told me she has been having problems on and off for a while now, but neglected to tell me since she did not use it much before now. Does anybody know what cards this can be replaced with. I heard only certain cards will work with this laptop or bios. Any help would be extremely welcomed and appreciated. Thanks

Hi IRobby054,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that your G500s Laptop is not turning ON and the indicators are still ON. I suggest you to perform the Flee-Power, below are the steps to perform the same:

Remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer.
Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds and then connect only the AC Adapter and try to turn ON the computer.

Do post us back if the issue persists.

Best Regards

Shiva Kumar
